Player Character Dialogue Improvement

in The Edge of the Mists

Posted by: JayMack.8295

JayMack.8295

Just want to say thanks for actually making my character feel important in the dialogue between myself and the Living Story characters. Giving orders and having characters ask me what to do is a good step in the right direction.

It’s A LOT better than, “Yeah. Great. Go on. Will do.”

Being from the Priory, and having a line mentioning my name being important was also good. It’s a small detail, but it’s a huge improvement. Obviously my character speaking would be the ultimate result, but I understand why that’s not always possible (both budgetary and currently technically).

Hope it continues!

Thank You for Making Taimi

To you and everyone who has expressed appreciation for Taimi in this thread: on behalf of the entire Writing Team, you’re very welcome.

We’re very fond and proud of Taimi—her characterization was the result of a lot of good team effort and collaboration. Special thanks to Debi Derryberry (the voice actor) who really helped bring Taimi to life.

A wish: Cutscenes in Living Story

No matter how the cutscene or dialogue is done, please please please please please always provide a “skip all” or “skip to next” option.

I realize it sounds insulting to the people who work on cutscenes, and I do appreciate that work, but some of the cutscenes do become tedious if you’re completing content on multiple characters, or even just completing it multiple times on the same character.

As Niels says, their relationship has been hinted at pretty strongly since Tower of Nightmares – the chemistry between the two has been pretty clear since they were first shown teaming up.

As someone in a T1 server (JQ), I’m definitely looking forward to this. Sometimes all servers are full and this looks like a good place to queue up in while waiting for an opening. It might even make some people like seasonal achievement hunters go here for achievements. Thanks for this.

Human Cultural Armor in the Gem Store [Merged]

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Hot Boy.7138

Hot Boy.7138

I just wanted to say that I’m happy the Flamekissed Set is in the trading post. I’ve always liked the human tier 3, but I play sylvari so I had no chance to get it before. Having as many armor skins to choose from is something that keeps this game fun to me. I like to change armors like I change clothes each day.

I do have a suggestion though.

It would be great if it were possible to dye the color of the flame. I noticed the animation of cinders coming off of the armor also which is awesome. So if it were possible to dye the flames black, and have black cinders coming off that would be amazing. Or even a blue flame like the icy dragon sword, or w/e color people wanted. You know everyone likes their armor to match their hair color and it’s even better to have the glow parts of an armor match the sylvari’s skin glow. And fire is one of those things that looks more awesome in different colors.

With that said. I wouldn’t be offended at all if I saw a human wearing a sylvari cultural tier 3 set, because it doesn’t take anything away from me.

Suggestion about skimpy armour imbalance.

Before I type any further I just want to put a disclaimer:

I know that some players (of whatever gender) like dressing their toons (of whatever gender) in skimpy armour for whatever reason. This post is not aimed at you. Go forth and continue to do whatever the kitten you want.

What I am tired of is the imbalance between male and female armour design.

I am tired of sets like heavy Whispers and heavy Phalanx which have inexplicable boob windows and thigh windows, and sets like heavy Vigil which have huge gaps in their side, leaving vital organs highly vulnerable (for a military organisation? really?) – while their male equivalents have none of the above. I get that people want some sexy armours, but… frankly boob and gut windows are not sexy, they’re ridiculous, and an insult to the game and its world, to the artists and designers and players both.

I am tired of the mistmatch between male and female outfits. Masquearade, Phoenix, Feathered… particularly in light armour, the male and female armours look completely different. If you want to have a skimpy armour for female characters, fine, but let the men show some thigh (and chest, and shoulder, and…). The phoenix armour (Kasmeer’s armour) is particularly bad in this respect – the male armour has basically nothing in common with the female design. Why can’t I have my male ele or mesmer (or necro) trailing feathers where he goes? Why can’t I have my female ele or mesmer (or necro) wearing something that looks much closer to robes than it does to underwear?

Masquearade armour is another particularly egregerious example of this; the female set is some bizarre fetish underwear setup which is apparently held in place by sheer willpower (and/or double sided sticky tape), whereas the male set is… a fairly practical looking set of robes.

If you want to show off some leg (or midriff, or underboob, or cleavage) on a female toon you have more options than you can shake a stick at (and conversely, if you want to dress your toons more conservatively and/or practically, you have very limited options). If you want to show off some leg/chest/etc on a male toon you have very limited options (almost nonexistent for light and medium, perversely), but have plenty of options for armour that is conservative and/or practical.

(“practical” here used for a given value thereof, given as this is a fantasy game)

TO REITERATE: I am not against skimpy armours, I simply feel that they should be equal opportunity and offered alongside a (preferably) equal number of non-skimpy options. I am not criticising people who choose to dress their toons in whatever manner they please.

I get that what is currently in the game will probably remain the way it is (though I would plead you do something about charr tail clipping, etc). But I beg of you, Arenanet, please consider making future armour sets look like part of the same set, regardless of gender; offer more options for female characters who don’t want to show all their skin, and for male ones who do.

thank you.

Hi,

Love the game and in general think we have a good community. I have noticed a disturbing trend of toxic posts across the forums and would like to remind those who are posting these toxic remarks to consider your fellow gamer before you do.

It would be a shame to see these forums go the way of those other games, not mentioning any names of course.

Take care and have fun !

Hi All,

I would like to thank everyone for their support toward the pioneering work we are doing, as we drive the world of Tyria forward.
The passion, and intelligence that our community devotes to making this game great is both humbling and essential.

Regarding our process in terms of forum usage as a development tool:

The reality is we do read our forums, and others, every single day. If you look over the last year, and cross reference with community feedback you will see many ideas actioned and many more not.

The communication pipeline in most part lacks one very important component. Specifically, ArenaNet having more time to feedback on your ideas, concerns and our own plans.

I am not one for excuses, but I do believe in being black and white. ArenaNet has been extremely busy of late listening to you all, evolving systems, providing ground breaking content, delivering adventures at a near real time pace, and tackling some very exciting problems.

We have, with your support, created a truly unique platform. One which is in its infancy, and one we build with the continued support, and collaboration of the community.

We do need to build out more time to be in dialog with you, specifically, following up on our own investigations of your suggestions and concerns.
We will work harder to achieves this.

We are also trying to forge a truly ‘Living World’. Therefore with your continued support, and patience we can continue to break new ground. Not just with world of Tyria, but with the method by which we build worlds ‘together’.

All of this said, I wanted to make it clear that whilst we avidly read our forums, we pay little, to no, attention to posts that are disrespectful to other members of our community or our development team. Our developers work very hard to listen to the community, and work tirelessly to create content and features that they hope the community will love. Likewise, the constructive members of our community work hard to provide our development team with feedback that abides with our collaborative standards and overall community philosophy of having a productive, welcoming, and friendly culture. This is a true partnership.

Our goal with Guild Wars 2 is to drive the creation of online worlds forward, thereby creating original, ‘stand-out’ content that pushes the boundaries of what it means to journey through a Living World. Any endeavor on this scale is going to have its challenges, and therefore as a team, we are fully prepared to make mistakes, learn from them, and make even better experiences as we move forward. We see problems not as failures but as opportunities, essentially a necessary part of Tyria’s and our Team’s evolution. It is with this understanding that we work with our community to move forward in the space and truly realize great things.

One key to understanding our philosophy to building worlds is that we don’t give more attention to feedback simply because it is the noisiest, most aggressive, or delivered in the most inflammatory way. We take on board all constructive feedback and actively discuss it, and then make a decision to backlog the item or move forward with it (the development of which can sometimes take longer than some give it credit for). Therefore do not expect feedback to be implemented just because it is something you feel very strongly about. We just don’t develop like that. We instead work with our community to help us navigate these uncharted waters, taking on board all advice and measuring them against the pillars of the Guild Wars 2 and the direction we ultimately want to move in as a whole.

Therefore you have to ask yourself: Is this a journey you want to take? Are you comfortable with expecting the unexpected, and ultimately working together in a positive and productive manner through thick and thin, to pioneer in a space that the team at ArenaNet feel is of huge importance? Many of you are not only comfortable with this paradigm but embrace it, and your contribution, as you know has already shaped Tyria immensely, for which we are extremely grateful and excited about.

Regardless of whether you wish to collaborate in the spirit outlined above or not, I ask that you remain respectful to your fellow man/woman, and be constructive in your approach to the development of the game, and understand Tyria is made up of communities and not individuals.

So thank you all so much for your support, passion and collaboration, and please understand that Arena is an amazing team with an amazing community. And together we build worlds!

You know how weird it sounds right? When you say “no, we don’t want ppl to try out our gamemode” (lol that sentence reminds me of something…. AHUM nvm!).

I know there are griefers, but it’s kinda like saying “1 tourist killed himself and some other ppl in amsterdam…. No more tourists allowed!”

Instead, give them good ideas on what to implement that could prevent this from happening. The 90% of normal people that want to try it, won’t be able to, just because of the few spies/trolls/griefers.

Allow us to do supply runs

in WvW

Posted by: Kosmo.5187

Kosmo.5187

It would be neat to see more mini-interactions in WvW. I have much more fun roaming and fighting in smaller skirmishes than watching or being steam-rolled by huge “zergs”. The more small activities there is to do, the better. Something like supply-runs would make things a little more interesting.

Imagine that you, as a player, could pick up a bundle of supplies from a supply camp. How much supply is in the bundle would have to be decided; not too much. You would not be able to use your normal skills while carrying the bundle, and perhaps you would also be immune to swiftness. Your goal is then to carry the bundle to a tower or keep, at which point you get some WXP. You can, at any time, drop the bundle to fight, but other people can pick up (or maybe destroy) the supplies laying on the ground. Successful drop-offs would be added to the supply at the destination.

Using a waypoint while carrying a supply bundle would drop the supply on the ground.

I think an activity like this this would add an interesting dynamic, without taking away the importance of dolyaks. Teams would have to decide if it was worth devoting resources to running a little extra supply, how many players should carry it, and so on. When roaming with few players, it would also be a fun alternative activity that would give people more reasons to spread out and fight.

There are many nuances and additions that could make this really awesome.

Think of the possibilities.

Please give Brazilians their own server.

Posted by: Basara.9405

Basara.9405

I’m ok with giving them (us, I confess) their (our) own server. And giving us the OPTION to switch.
But I have some points to say (please don’t misunderstand what i’ll say, since I have no intention to be rude):
1 – Most of Brazilians in MMOs don’t have the language issue neither high ping issue. Also, most of brazilians are not in BR guilds, specially in GW2. The brazilians in BR guilds are usually (not always) the ones that do have language issues. And this “language issues” are mostly because our average age from MMO players is low, compared to most of the countries (adults playing games is some kind of taboo here, in some families) . But as I said, most brazilians are not in Br guilds, and you don’t even realize who they are between the game population. You might see english mistakes in my post, but you can clearly understand, right? I see native english speakers doing worst than I do.
2 – I used to think Br ping problem was terrible, since we have low quality internet here. But after one year of GW2 and some other games before, I realize most of North Americans have almost as much lag problems as we do. I see North Americans teleporting too, and its not that rare.
3 – If we paid for the game, and we are allowed to play the game, then we are allowed to speak portuguese in the chats. Just like I see people speaking russian, german, spanish, and so on (in NA servers). I see guilds spamming everywhere, in every language. But most of the spam is in english, because most of the players speak english. So I believe every nationality spams relatively the same, you just think brazilians do more spam because you are not used to portuguese, so it might be just a psychological mistake.
4 – Even if we have a terrible ping and so terrible fighters for wvw… How can 30 terrible fighters be worst than no fighters at all? They might play badly because of ping… But at least they are there to play for your server (which is stronger than my, by the way).
5 – But I’m not from DH (and I assume you are), I can’t really say I understand the problems you are complaining about. But if it’s so bad at DH, the same does not applies to the other servers. Creating a Br server, in portuguese, based on Brazil, just to “save” DH from our bad connection and our language… Might not be worth. And it make way to many other countries demand their own servers or demand server for nationalities that are causing problems to their own game experience. Maybe at some point, but for now I don’t think there is enough brazilians and south americans in GW2 to make it worth creating a bunch of servers in south america (have to be “a bunch”, or they will have no wvw), the created servers would be empty.
So, if they cause so many troubles to your game experience, might be easier to switch servers yourself, than asking all of them to change. I’m in HoD, and Br population here is very small, for example.
Again, I didn’t meant to be rude. And I hope I hasn’t sounded like that.

While most sane people stopped caring about the score a year ago, some still cling to the notion that WvW is a competitive game type with PPT being the indicator of success or failure. You’ve seen them, the crazy people who want to hold a tower “for the tick,” as if matters. Those are the types who don’t like GvG.

Because of people like this. Generalizing and demeaning to those that don’t play the way they want them to.

Minus the people pushing for a finish for achieves and minus the majority of the hardcore farmers and minus the two bickering, and QQing this invasion was actually FUN. We failed but everyone there did their absolute best without any pressure or negativity floating about.

And WOW are those mobs a bit harder with less manpower, was great to pull out some skill instead of relying on a zerg of 50 people.

I like this addition to the LS when it’s not every hour and tied to timed achieves.
