i have 11 friends who transferred to vabbi when it used to be linked with deso , because
they couldnt transfer to deso because it was full … they ofc used GEMS .. now they are
left alone in vabbi and cant play with us in deso .. * claps * goodjob .

I used to live in WvW, but took a break from it after HoT, and I just returned to WvW 2 weeks ago.

I really like the changes, new maps, tactics etc., but I have a few things I don’t like:

- that a keep/tower goes under contest if just a guard have been hit. I liked it back in days that it was under contest the moment a gate or wall had been hit.
It’s a bit stressful for a scout to see something under contest all the time, just because a player ran by and got hit by a guard.
Please change this back to old style so someone actually have to hit the door, or build a siege.

- that after taking a keep, players inside get the “spotted orange buff”. Makes it hard to be sneaky, plus, Makes the defenders more lazy as they don’t have to search for hidden enemies anymore.
It’s ok to have it on Sentry’s.

- That WP’s don’t go out of contest a few sec after the timer is off. I know we have emergency WP now, but still. Render the normal WP a bit useless.

- Remove the guildtag from all mobs inside a tower/keep. Can sometimes be hard to see on distance what is what. Maybe just have the guildtag on the place itself, and not on each mob.

There might be more, will return then I remember ;D

Legendary WVW Backpack

There should be a free HoT legendary if you get Ultimate Dominator, honestly or AT LEAST the ones on the Trading Post.

Each maxed out title in WvW should give an ascended weapon/armor box. It’s essentially the only thing relevant besides ascended trinkets.

I.e. Defender of camp/keep/tower/SMC = Defender’s box of armor, Assaulter of camp/keep tower/SMC = Assaulter’s Box of weapons/armor

Then have X maxed WvW titles = legendary backpack.

Current titles:
Ultimate Dominator Get 250,000 total kills in WvW.
Yakslapper Kill 2,500 enemy supply caravans.
Leader of the Yak Succesfully escort 2,500 supply caravans.
Fixer-Upper Spend 10,000 supply on repairs.
Unstoppable Force Capture 7,500 objectives.
Unhappy Camper Capture 2,500 total supply camps.
Tower Toppler Capture 2,000 total towers.
Plays for Keeps Capture 1,000 total keeps.
Kingmaker Capture Stonemist Castle 200 times.
Immovable Object Defend 3,000 objectives.
Camp Counselor Defend 500 total supply camps.
Keep Guard Defend 1000 keeps.
Tower Guard Defend 750 total towers.
Royal Guard Defend Stonemist Castle 500 times.

Then have reward tracks for ascended trinkets/backpacks. (Bloodstone fen / ember bay reward tracks do okay though)

Except people kill traded in OS to get ultimate dominator and excessive loot. I don’t know anyone that is even close to ultimate dominator from normal WvW even playing most evenings for nearly 4 years.

Not saying some haven’t got it legit through pressing 1 on their lootstick guards when massively outnumbering other groups, just not anyone I personally know.

I have Ultimate Dominator and theres at least 10 people with it on my server that all got it legit. We didn’t even play EoTM to do it. We played WvW normally.

Yeah, I didn’t say some won’t have it legit but 250k kills is a lot especially if you’ve been on a bronze server most of your GW2 time. To have it by now you’d have to get about 170 kills a day, easy enough if you played a GWEN character and zerging in T1 but not everyone can or wants to play like that. Making ultimate dominator a requirement for the legendary back piece would rediculous.

As I’ve posted in other threads, “guest” servers have little sense of community anymore…we’re just wandering gypsies, the fickle winds and shifting sands taking us where they may. Permanent server merges might help with that feeling of not belonging to a community outside of one’s own guild. From what I’m seeing in WvW, if Anet were to stop linkings and not merge servers, the server I’m on now would be but a shell of its former self.

Players could always transfer servers “easily” (IF they had no pride for their server) and it was far less expensive back then when gems were cheaper. Population has always been volatile (again this were people with already low serverpride), I remember servers getting stacked, left etc pre-linking all the time. Most WvW players have transfered pre-linking several times already. I am sure in this forum you will find a lot of evidence for this.

The big difference is that previously servers weren’t used as a gateway for getting to top tier serers and thus were not abused the way they are now.

I used to play WvW on Gunnar’s Hold, then I took a flawed serverlink to the knee.

For years now a number of players have told us that server pride is dead. I don’t know the background of these players but suspect they don’t feel any loyalty to the server they are currently on, and this may not be the server they first started WvW on.

Those of us who play for server pride knew they were wrong, and sometimes told people so. Server pride can be a good source of motivation for players that are loyal to their server. Whether you transferred to somewhere you really like or whether you’ve always been there doesn’t matter – you’re fighting for your home server and that’s what provides the motivation to defend a borderlands or rampage through an enemy.

Server linking changed things quite a lot. Some servers no longer see their name in WvW – everything they do is credited to the “host” server. Other servers gained an influx of players who had different ideas and expectations about how things should be done. We all made the best of the new situation.
I do wonder, now we have some months of experience with the linking system,

  • How has this affected the motivation of players on either server?
  • How has this affected the server populations?
  • Has server pride finally died or is it still keeping communities together?

I ask these questions because I’m interested, and because the motivation to play is a key part of keeping WvW alive. If server pride has actually died, perhaps as a result of linking, then why do we play?

Military Orders and Punishments

One thing we all face in WvW is that 99% of the players want to be in the thick of action with the main zerg. 1% of the players are roamers who don’t listen to commanders. When we see swords on a keep for example, we call out and say any eyes on the keep? while 50 players run around with the commander and nobody volunteers to run to the keep to check. Or we say, take back the supply camps! we are running low on supplies. But everybody sticks to the commander and nobody breaks away. Or the Commander says, can someone tick the sieges? Nobody does it. Can someone walk this camp’s yak?…

Zerglings not listening to orders? Roamers not listening to orders?

Here I present the solution: Military Orders

Allow commanders to issue Military Orders to squad members.
Military Orders are definite orders that squad members have to obey. These are issued from the top brass and disobedience or failure to execute the Military Order successfully will result in Military Punishment.
Successful completion on the other hand will result in rewards.

Standard Orders and Punishments could include:

  • Take a particular supply camp (within 5 minutes)
    - disobedience or failure punishment = freezing of WvW participation points for 5 minutes.
    - Successful completion of order = instant gain of current WvW participation points on top of the usual gains.
  • Defend a particular supply camp (for 5 minutes)
    - disobedience or failure punishment = freezing of WvW participation points for 5 minutes.
    - Successful completion of order = instant gain of current WvW participation points on top of the usual gains.
  • Scout a location (for e.g. scout the NE area and report on enemy movement for 5 minutes)
    - disobedience or failure punishment = freezing of WvW participation points for 5 minutes.
    - Successful completion of order = instant gain of current WvW participation points on top of the usual gains.
  • Sentry a location (for e.g. be the sentry in Hills for 5 minutes)
    - disobedience or failure punishment = freezing of WvW participation points for 5 minutes.
    - Successful completion of order = instant gain of current WvW participation points on top of the usual gains.

Commanders have the power to issue Military Orders and Punishments when they meet the following criteria:

  • Have at least 20 men in their squad (when a commander reaches this number of squad members, he is officially recognized by the server as a chosen Commander and when a chosen Commander is present on a map, all server players on the map will automatically be forced to join the squad. There can be more than one chosen Commander on the map, in which case, the player is given a choice to join his/her preferred chosen Commander)
  • Different orders require the assigning of a min-max number of squad members.
    - For example, taking or defending a supply camp require at least 2 member receiving the order and a maximum of 5 members. Or scouting require at least 1 member receiving the order and a maximum of 3 members

Hi everybody,when i play wvw i keep see the same BS over and over.

Im talking about SIEGES placement and WALLS mechanics.

Siege Placement:
Can i call it BS when i see (for example) 4,5 catas being placed under the bridge outside Veloka,damaging the far wall on the right?!

Walls mechanics:
There is no actuall benefit by being “protected” by a wall for a defender in comparrison to be in an open field for an attacker

I find it ridiculous that catapults can be used as “walls-battering rams”,being placed just right next to it.And i find it even more ridiculous that most of the times your wall is actually working against you,giving cover to the attackers instead of protecting you.

Attackers:
Can set up 4,5 catas under a wall and spam bubbles to greatly reduce damage taken
Can eaisly clear a wall from defenders and defensive siege just by AoE spammingdown there,without exposing themselves.

Defenders:
Have to protrude from walls to get the “line of sight” to single target or to AoE down
Takes way too much DMG from AoE just by walking on walls being out of sight doesnt matter
Have to rely on “safer” siege position like the supply depot or use even more distant siege like “that mortar over there at the opposite side of the fight”,turn it all the way to the selected direction and then aim…good luck with that: pillars in the way,stairs in the way,your wall in the way.
Have to aim to the closer spot OVER the wall without getting “clear hit” most of the times.
Your have to use sieges form OTHER towers to clear the enemy ones.

At this point just like we cannot build sieges in spawn areas,cant we have a minimum distance around towers and keeps where ranged siege cannot be placed?

Cant we have a sort of “buff on walls” for defenders like an x% of AoE Resistance from PLAYER AoE only?!

So what happend here? With the latest linking the server has the lowest population of any EU server by a LONG shot.

Any Anet dev around here that can comment on why they consciously destroyed the server by linking it with Vabbi that has 5-10 core players at max?

If you’re going to link servers atleast stop counting all the players that bandwagoned on there just to get to top tier servers for cheap, because obviously those players are going to leave before reset is even over.

Just a quick look on MOS shows us that the server is outnumbered atleast 2 to 1 all the time, ingame confirms that it is outnumbered on every map 24/7 the past few weeks.

It has been the same for the past 4 matchups but the current matchup also shows the issue clearly:

Gunnars Hold:
3791 kills
4932 deaths

Drakkar Lake:
9923 kills
8941 deaths

Aurora Glade:
9026 kills
9868 deaths

???? Anet logic.

To the people who are planning on transfering off of Gunnars Hold because of this mess be sure to get your gems by converting them from gold, no need to financially support this kittenshow with real currency.

There have been rich individuals transferring very often every now and then due to guest server being only 500 gems. However, this frequent transfers will upset the population balance and most importantly, the status calculation. I suggest doubling the cost of recent transferees’ (within two months) to deter them from transferring that often.

I agree – that’s how it’s been for a long time.
Nothing feels threatening to me – none of the NPCs seem serious and there’s really no drama or sorrow even when they try to add it. It feels cheap and artificial.

GW1 wasn’t exactly full-blown dark either BUT it had a much stronger sense of seriousness about it. It wasn’t laughs and gags every 5 minutes.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

You can already convert Mithrillium and Spirit Residue:

  • Finish refining them mats
  • Sell those.
  • Use your new coin to buy mithril and elder wood.

I’m not sure why ANet should go out of its way. They told us that we wouldn’t see new legendaries any time soon and you went ahead and assumed that, if & when they returned, that the process would be the same as before. They didn’t mislead us, they didn’t steer us down the wrong path; I don’t think they should spend their limited developer time to solve a problem that they had no hand in creating.

I’m sure it’s based off numerous factors and its most certainly is based off a longer evaluation time period than you describe.

The communities of the game move too sporadically given the game mechanics and cultures. It can’t be balanced by use of a formula over time in such a manner. I believe this is one of the issues Arena Net will face when trying to balance WvW with the current mechanics.

I would also like to point out I believe that your actual rank and/or your tier and not if you’ve won a match effects the formula that determines your status. (Can’t confirm) Just been watching consistently.

Based off that, I can use YB as an example as to why their locked.

YB is locked because even though YB is currently winning this match up by a land slide, They are rank 7 and this match-up isn’t decided so it’s not taken into account. Which means, their normalized spot is in T3. Yet they had a surge in population base and because of this, they are standing up to and crushing Tier 2.

DB has recently lost a large chunk of their player base and coverage(Over many weeks). They are dropping like a rock, yet they are STILL ranked 4 overall. Which means currently in Tier 2 there is a huge imbalance. JQ is rank 5 and beating rank 4, yet being creamed by rank 7. (ArenaNet should have reset the volatility)

If you look at JQ: last week was the first week of skirmishes, JQ gained +18 and the fact that match making is calculated at the end of the match up when Jade Quarry was rank 4 and Yaks Bend wasn’t in the tier dominating

Considering my above analysis, Yaks Bend is dominating and is imbalanced purely based off speculation that a servers actual rank is a factor. Thus, causing them to be temporarily locked. I say temporary, because their rank will even out. Predictions show that not only will YB take 6th but their closing in on 5th as well. Once this happens, and whatever reevaluation period comes next will indeed effect Yaks Bend based off their coverage over time.

*Take into account that the formula for rating was recently modified when the skirmish system got added. This is also having a effect on server placement and ranks. Thus, it’s even effecting the server status upon reevaluation that just happened. *

“Regarding how Glicko will be updated at the end of a skirmish-based match. The same inputs and outputs will be used as usual, except that total Victory Points from the week’s match will be fed in as the score for each team, instead of the week’s total War Score.
This can have different effects on how ratings will change. If team A consistently beats team B— but only a little— their ratings will be split apart faster than before. If team A steamrolls team B consistently, their ratings won’t split apart as quickly as before.” -ArenaNet Chris Barrett

Also, notice that last week MAG blew out JQ and remember “If team A steamrolls team B consistently, their ratings won’t split apart as quickly as before.” You still gained and JQ was recently open. TC was initially locked.

All the status (T1|T2) updates that just happened are predictable IMO more so than not. Just the same as the link reevaluations every 2 months.

This is an Realm versus Realm mode… Realm versus Realm only works with players on the map. Y’all can’t expect the devs to keep emptier maps just for your personal roaming preference. If you are having difficulty encountering zergs then the alternative is to join spvp for your small scale pvp fix.

Threads and requests like these are akin to someone jumping on the boards and saying “well, I like raids, but I don’t like encountering raid bosses”… Seriously, it’s been 4 years and the same personal roaming problems keep popping up. You can roam with any amount of players on the map, but WvW is not primarily designed for roamers and roaming gameplay. It’s supposed to be an “epic war with hundreds of players on the huge maps” so accept it for what it is because the devs are not going back to dead server mode.

You’re wrong & there are solutions that can use World Server Identity to improve the Long Term health & viability of this Game Mode.


It’s possible to have a “Realm vs Realm” with emptier maps.

If the Game Mode used a King of the Hill fight model…the Lower Ranked World Servers would have an ecosystem that allows Small Scale roaming, AND Epic Zerg battles would be found in the Top Ranked Worlds.

Using this Model…Players from the Lowest Ranked Servers would still be able to participate in attacking the #1 ranked, and the #1 ranked would earn less points attacking any Lower Ranked servers.

The #1 Ranked NA & EU Worlds would have to earn their Rank in this model.

ANet needs to re-design the Game Mode & use a better Match-Up mechanic that leverages Population In-Balances to create Match-Ups that are Player Driven…yet…ANet Controlled.

Actually I’m right.

Go to the ESO and CU boards and ask them to make small scale rvr accommodations for players… The developers and players would be laughing.

Arenanet is not changing wvw to accommodate small scale play so roamers don’t have to encounter blobs. Arenanet is not making “king of the hill” and reverting back to single server style either. Go gvg and spvp for all your small scale play.

It’s been 4 years… well past the time for all of you to finally adapt to blobs being around and stop trying to change wvw into something it’s not.

Last night pugging VG yet another example reared its ugly head. I accept invite and swap to Engi as condi was needed. We then spend almost 15 mins (well, the leader and folks) complaining that we don’t have Chrono buffs, How can we do this without Chrono buffs, etc.? I offer to come on my Chrono for said buffs, but not as tank as I have never tanked in this game. Reply…..“Oh no, we don’t want a Chrono if it cant tank”! Really? You just wasted almost 30 mins discussing how you will fail without said Chrono buffs but you only want them if they are wrapped up in a tank?
Just some odd thinking. The run also had a Condi Druid who kept saying that he cant do GC as condi and that his dps will suck, etc. Umm, same range as a Reaper last time I checked and they doing just fine.
Ah well, we got the kill so I guess that’s the main thing…lol.

2: You forget that the you can teleport back to the wurm. This is a very powerful “get out of dodge” ability. Like most skills, situational. But this skill does not need to be changed.

3: The primary use of this one I’ve found is to increase your minion count which can grant additional benefits if you are traited for such. Wish it would summon more than two when you consider that 4 are created when you use Litch form elite skill. (that may be a traited thing as well, I can’t remember.)

Yeah the teleport can be useful, although I think it’s rather strange to put this mechanic on a minion. (teleporting sounds more like a spectral thing). It can indeed be useful in specific situations.

About the bone minions: I don’t think the +20 bonus toughness for having 2 minions instead of one makes very much of a difference :P, unless you really need the condi pull from minions I don’t think 2 weak minions are better than 1 more powerful minion.
The dmg from summoning and exploding them actually isn’t too bad, but the fact you have to resummon them with a long cast time constantly kinda screws this up.
