4 years and you guys can not even figure out how to balance the overall game once and for all.

This is disgusting, it should embarrass you!!

Look at it this way.

In order to balance something, there has to be incentive. And where does this incentive come from? The testers – its players. Balance after balance, Anet tries to get it right.

Unfortunately, once they add something new, there needs to be more user input, and the cycle repeats.

That’s why. And it isn’t just Anet. Every game has this issue.

What time does the season start?

For a 4 years game, the spvp scene is still strong.

The next Xpac will bring back many spvp lovers into the scene and perhaps season 5 will do as well.

Let’s hope that Anet can make our beloved game a Phoenix come back and bring back all the serious pvp players we lost over the years.

In my opinion, things will really start to get interesting when more elite specs are introduced, because only one can be chosen at a time.

Agreed! This is gonna be amazing. Really anticipating seeing what Anet has down their sleeve. Unfortunately it seems like the next xpac comes in over 3 years from now, so rip.

Okay so I swapped Lightning Flash for Arcane Shield and Rebound for Fiery GS. Highly recommend this update. Editing OP.

ALSO, it appears offhand dagger might work well with Arcane Shield, as well as Signet of Restoration..

I still like WH more than dagger, but you can go ahead and try a faster paced build with the dagger.

Oh btw, I never said this build works ‘well’ against pro players. I said it works a.k.a. is viable against them. In fact, no build in GW2 ‘works well’ against pro players, since if they’re your counter you’re as good as dead. Ranked hasn’t started yet, but I’ll definitely use this throughout the season and make a consensus on it. People have begged me for it so here it is ;p

I just made an even more powerul build, but I’m deciding to keep this one private. Close topic please.

I’ve used this build for quite some time now, just made a few tweaks here and there before publishing it.

Another major aspect of the build is that it generates high Might stacks. That is when your bursts will be at their prime.

With swiftness, there is some mobility. Arcane Shield (48 CD) is enough to serve as a second-chance stun break after the air shout trait.

It does have heals, just gotta know HOW to heal.

It has Water Trident, Tidal Wave, and Water Bubble which can be used in conjunction to Arcane Brilliance.

The bursts consist of lightning strikes and Arcane Skills, used with Air 5. I don’t use Air 4 often. After using your burst, the enemy will go invuln. Right after their invulns, use Phoenix. Spam D Tooth often and it will land. Use Air Overload often too, unless you have too much focus on you.

Dragon’s Tooth works really well on downed players too.

You just have to get used to the flow. 17k HP is a lot of health for an elementalist.

Scepter doesn’t have long CDs which is the good thing. Use Warhorn exclusively (Air 5, Earth 4, etc)

You’ll be surprised at how fast pace the build is.

I don’t care about condi cleanse. It’s meant to decimate enemies in PvP immediately, allowing you to heal after defeating them swiftly.

If you join teamfights, you’ll increase the pressure to such of a degree that it’s just hilarious.

I was able to solo Stronghold with this four times. I’ve killed Legendary warriors with this solo. I don’t know, give it a try maybe??

The Arcane skills for utilities do even more damage compared to without them. You can do two Arcane blasts within 32 seconds while 1 lightning flash within 32 seconds.

Once the buff rolls in, this build will be even better with the Arcane Shield cd buff.

It’s a fun, sacrificial burst build that wrecks if you use it right. A lot of eles that I know of just can’t use Warhorn correctly, and they die. I don’t blame you, Focus rotations screw you up.

It’s a fun build meant to have fun. I didn’t care about sustain or condis, since I just wanted a way to get rid of enemies abruptly without sacrificing too much with Zerkers. Plus, with Zerker you have less precision.

Beware of Bunkers though. They CAN hurt you as your defenses are nimble. If you’re roaming in PvP, stick to non-bunkers (no Druids / Eles with dagger/focus). I mean you can, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Come with somebody else if you have to.

Eles did not need buffed. Their community needs to l2p and not skillspam their rotations and they’d realize it’s still perfectly fine. Eles complain about not being able to do damage, but then given the choice 10/10 will hump every defensive trait in the game even if offered 100000% damage.

Wrong. S/F relies on burst + sustain. The issue is nearly all post HoT classes outsustain S/F ele……….. No matter how hard you try, you’ll get destroyed by mesmers, warriors (unless you’re a pro kiter) even then if a War tries as hard as S/F ele does, they’ll win. Revenants outburst S/F eles. Druids have too much sustain. Necro has too much condi. Guardian has too much control.

Clearly you haven’t played with S/F ele (no offense), as you’d quickly realize how poor it is. Even if you hit the skill ceiling, you’re bound to drop dead ~

Which is why I crafted an extreme burst build with mild sustain.

1vs1 Duel Mode

Abelisk.4527

The way it should work is no Bunkery amulets are allowed, and the choice of amulets is reduced compared to sPvP.

Everyday there is a 1v1 PvP server that hosts 1v1 battles with players. I go to them to test how effective my builds would be in high-tier Ranked games. They also don’t encourage bunker builds, so it’s really fun.

Anyway, I like this idea. Yes, classes aren’t fully balanced… but you have the option to duel anyone. In PvE I see lots of players of every class. Just right click on their name and choose to duel them. They have the right to decide.

There should be an anti-spamming tool for duels, like having a 1 minute cooldown on duel requests. There could be an option to automatically reject duel requests too, to prevent spam and choose to duel at you and someone else’s discussed will.

When two players enter an arena, there will be a 1 minute timer to start, like sPvP. In this time you can make last minute tweaks or something. Once you’re done, hit Ready.

I was looking for amulets, runes, and a replacement sigil for Sigil of Bloodlust and this is what I came up with for PvP:

Paladin Amulet
Rune of the Herald
Sigil of Strength

Keep the traits, Signet of Restoration, utilities, elites. I played around with it and it has power AND nice burns. Heals are pretty great too. You can also replace Rune of the Herald with Rune of Leadership I think. As for Sigil of Energy, maybe replace it with Sigil of Transference to make up for the Healing Power loss.

Anyway if anyone wants to, try the set I came up with out to see if it’s a viable build for PvP. I’m rusty and I suck atm.

SotM isn’t ever my main method of damage… Sword 3 usually is. Staff is a resistance-type weapon in general too. I was baffled at why the damage for SotM was so high.

I noticed that everyone ignored all the positive buffs and focused on this nerf (divisive). I’m feeling they want Mallyx back in the scene, which is gonna be interesting to see how it all plays out.

The problem isn’t your team OP, it’s the professional teams that outweigh PUG teams in Ranked. This makes it unfair for SoloQ and DuoQ players in Ranked since a 5 man party has the potential to be a group of very experienced players versus a group of mixed players – you know the outcome of that.

Unranked does have up to 5 queues though, and that’s what matters. Ranked is a really competitive environment that’s trying to be fair to everyone, giving no individual an advantage over the other.

If an ESL team was to play against a PUG team, what would be the outcome? It might feel like I’m grasping at straws here, but it’s the inevitable truth.

If you wanna play with your buddies, a casual game of Unranked would be the preferable way 2 go.

It makes me giggle when people who run D/F focus hate how ‘weak’ auramancer is.

I don’t get why you think magnetic aura is bad. It reflects projectiles. It destroys enemies.

Sand squall coupled with warhorn water 5 cleans 2 condis, and heals a lot of health. It gives you 6 seconds of protection and 3 seconds to all alies around you.

Projectile denial is good, but protection boon is subjectively better. My warhorn has saved my allies butts so many times you don’t even know.

Water heals immensely. With Magi, oh boy…. As long as allies stick to you and heal themselves, they won’t die.

Warhorn air 4 is a CC. Warhorn air 5 is a passive vuln spammer.

I have never died in a 1v1 with Magi D/W, and never will. Warriors are utterly weak against me.

Only a pro shatter GS mesmer was able to make a dent in my build.

If you don’t need to worry about conditions because the opposing team doesn’t have any big condi classes, you can run Powerful Aura. Sand Squall will gives Magnetic Aura to everyone around you – that’s insane.

Earth 5 blinds at an annoying rate too. Slap it over a node and the opposing team will suffer.

I’ve played with both D/F and D/W. My preference is over the latter. My opinion.

DH as a class by itself gives you the biggest advantage to win, you just need to know how to play Meta DH. Even a 5 Trap zerker DH has a better chance of winning against any class “On Comparable Skill”.

Compare this to lets say Power Rev, it’s easily countered by Condi’s, Thieves, other Rev’s, DH, Chrono’s etc.

or Auramancer Ele, which literally is a walking free kill. You just autoattack it to death.

This is just a load of nonsense. DH’s are countered by tempest. Why in the world would u outright lie to the OP? Medi trappers have kittenty mobility, they offer no group support other then the few boons they dish out. thier dps is mostly shared between longbow and trap. longbows which can be hardcounterd by area denial and anybody who knows how to dodge, use stability, invulnerability, teleport, evade etc.

U are litterally telling me that auramancer elementalsit is a free kill? U are telling me that auramancer with 40 percent damage reduction through protection and heals+regens on auras is a free kill on auto attack? u think pro teams would use a class that can litterally die to an auto attack?

U are telling me that a slow class with almost no group support. with abilities that can be negated to projectile denial. Is better then a class with mobility? offers support through regen, swiftness and aoe healing? can actually ress allies, has moderate dps and a reliable burst on bristeback every 20 seconds? U are telling me that a dragonhunter somehow is better carrier then a class that is so versartile? U are telling me that the OP will be able to somehow have the answers to downed allies, allies low on health, will be able cleanse conditions, has the mobility to disenage. Yet somehow medi trapper is better class to carry?

If your team is bad..you have no hopes on ele, it’s not a class you can carry with; you can heal people as much as you want..if they can’t dodge, kite ect ect..you’ll die very easily on ele. With the current matchmaking system having teammates that can’t use skills accordingly …it’s common.

Ele is used at ESL level because there…you have a kittening team with bloody good players that don’t help from above to stay alive more than 5s

Try this build.

Dagger/Warhorn auramancer for PvP
Traits: water 1/3/1, earth 3/3/3 (or Diamond Skin if there are a lot of condition casters on their team such as Necro or mesmer), tempest 3/2/3.
Sigils: Sigil of renewal on dagger, sigil of transference on warhorn
Rune: Rune of Soldier
Amulet: Magi
Heal: Wash the Pain Away
Utilities (from left to right): Feel the Burn, Flash-Freeze, Lightning Flash (or Aftershock if they have a lot of projectile classes such as Ranger or Guardian).
Elite: Rebound!
Warhorn is a lot more bunkery and tough than Focus. The heals in water can grant a total heal of a little over 10000 HP, whie in Focus that aspect is nonexistent. Because aquamancer’s training is in effect, these skills can be recharged much faster (but don’t stay in water).
Also, Earth 4 grants 6 seconds of the almighty protrction boon.
Tips for surviving.
- Each aura heals ~ 1.5k HP so use often, and cleans one condi too
- Use water 3 in water 5 to get free 3000 HP. Best way to do this is to use Water 4 >> Water 5 >> Water 3..Always be mobile or you die (even though sustain is insanely high).
- Use earth 4 every single time you’re in Earth attunement. Not only do you receive 6 sec of protection but allies around you receive 3 sec of protection.
- Dodge a lot. Trust me. Try dodging while in water 5 to get its full healing benefits.
- Save fire shout for condi cleanse. Fortunately it only has a 25 sec CD.
- Flash-Freeze cleans off two condis as well.
- Rebound cleans one condi, and then the following aura cleans another.
- Use air overload for damage, fire overload for might stack, water overload for group healing, earth overload for point protection or enemy immobilize at burst
- Save lightning flash for very tough spots and tense pressure and to move around
- Wash the pain away also cleans off a condi.
I have sustained against 5 players occasionally. This build can resist any build 1v1 (maybe except for extreme condi bombs)

I guess it’s cool, but a bit underpowered.

Flip Attack for air feels like it’s in the wrong attunement, especially given it yields crits. With Fresh Air, having a skill that always crits would’ve been better, except if it’s in air attunement that is. Maybe instead of a flip attack, there could be a blast that causes weakness and blind each time you block an attack with Squall Reprisal.

Remember that Elementalists have very low HP. The wards should be at least 3 seconds. 1 second is crazy low for a time.

Red-Hot Revival trait change: Activate the ward of the attunement you’re in, not just fire.

Elemental Surge: Change the name, it’s already a trait in Arcane.

Other than that, solid spec. Thank god it isn’t more CD for the burst modes.

Ele has about the same amount of HP as Guardian, btw.

What eles lack are really protective and offensive skills. Guardian has so many condi cleanse, invuln, and protection, while dishing out immense damage.

Ele is simply UP, and the only way Tempest works is with the most protection and healing traits available.

Most builds are countered and blocked tremendously, which makes it tough for eles.

u find gw2 story any good?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Abelisk.4527

Abelisk.4527

It’s an MMO. It’s expected. The story caters towards MMO tropes. It’s not a book.

This is why we are getting new, explorable maps. New content. Incentive.

Quality-wise, GW2’s writing is RPG-like (e.g. not at its full potential due to RPG qualities such as combat, quests, and the like). It’s geared towards map and lore rather than the plot itself, which is why the story feels lacking.

Many MMOs have disjointed stories so I don’t see what the issue is. Though it would be quite a feat to pull of an incredible story with great characters and structure while maintaining the MMO formula.

Viable D/D Ele in PvP??

in Elementalist

Abelisk.4527

Pretty much everything Blackbeard said. It’s simply broken. Nuff said.

Most D/D eles switched to S/F FA, another class, or just quit until D/D gets buffed.

About PvP not being worth it, I can sort of agree, BUT it’s all about fun. I have a condi Ele build that works if used in the right hands. Although the meta atm calls for bunker auramancer, you can still do some damage with other builds.

Every class has a counter. There is NO class that is the ultimate, God-like class. Running trap Dragonhunter? No problem, Druids and bunker eles will destroy you. Warrior? Dragonhunter will destroy you. Mesmer? Dragonhunter.

Though Engi might be in a tough spot, I’ve seen a lot of diversity in many good Engis, which shows a lot of build theorycrafters have tinkered around with Engis.

Necro has a plethora of builds available, which is good.

Mesmer seems to be viable in many builds, from the endless shatter to power shatter to condi chronophantasma etc.

Warrior has the potential for a wide variety of builds if sufficiently invested enough time into.

Revenant is just outright powerful with its Power Shiro, but rip condis. I don’t think there are too many builds with Rev mainly because the restorative and condi-cleansing potential is too low.

Thieves work great with Staves, D/P, and have some nice builds.

Ele has a really small amount of Meta builds. In fact, Bunker auramancer and S/F fresh air are the only viable two up on MetaBattle. Then again, I do have a decent burn build that works even better with the new Glyph of Elemental Power. Can’t wait to tweak it a bit to see its maximum potential.

It’s the class that has by far the most skills in the game. No matter what weapons you use, there are four attunements, each with their unique skills. Fire attunement is usually based around burning and power, water is healing and condition, air is movement and CC, earth is defense and bleeding.

What’s fun about Ele is that you can switch to attunements in no specific order. You can combine multiple skills to work with each other. It’s almost like an alchemist.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Abelisk.4527

Abelisk.4527

For your second build, I’m curious why you chose the traits Earth 2 over Earth 3 and Earth 1 over Earth 3.

Sand Squall from Earth skill 4 must be used very often (or as often as possible). The protection boon is insane as it reduces 1/3 of all incoming damage. Not only that but it heals one condi because of the aura application.

Your water and tempest traits are spot on. However, your claim on boon duration would bode better with Tempest 3/2/1, as Imbued Melodies trait extends boon duration. It works very well with Earth skill 4.

Also I run Rune of the Soldier for condi cleanse. Each shout would otherwise remove one less condition if Soldier Rune wasn’t applied.

As for Diamond Skin… i dont know. Ever since its nerf I feel like it’s just not good. Stone Heart is a lot better imo.. diamond skin has a 1 second cd so even if you miraculously manage an upkeep of HP >75%, you’ll barely be cleaning off condis. It’s pretty much useless IMO. Stone Heart has ridiculous tanking potential, especially when coupling Sand Squall.

The grandmaster traits for Tempest (Imbued Melodies and Elemental Bastion) are both pretty great. Elemental Bastion heals all allies if you get an aura applied. With Mender/Sage/Magi equipment the healing is high (~1.5k HP per aura) with elemental bastion. Imbued Melodies grants sand squall every 30 sec upon hit while elemental bastion grants frost aura every 30 sec.

Imbued Melodies = 20% boon duration increase (warhorn only), Elemental Bastion = passive aura healing and frost aura. I personally go with Elemental Bastion for its powerful healing potential, but so far I haven’t really tried Imbued Melodies.

As for build 1 and 3, I haven’t evaluated them yet. Good job btw.

Pros and cons of Warhorn and Focus

in Elementalist

Abelisk.4527

Oh oops! This is about PvP. Sorry about that.
Nevertheless, interesting responses so far.
What seems particularly intriguing is that Warhorn doesn’t have any really slow skills that are meant only to do damage. I use the slowest (Tidal Surge) for Healing me and allies, granting regeneration as well as cleaning off a condi. The second slowest offensive, air 5, has a really large area of coverage. You can have enemies far from it, but the orb will be shooting small-but-potent projectiles that stack vulnerability and can do decent damage especially if they crit.

The second two offensives, fire 5 and earth 5, I use very often. I place them over nodes/points for protection so that if I’m being followed and attacked, the enemies will slowly but surely be damaged. The fire 5 also provides an excellent might field.

Water 5 heals a whopping 3k with this build if one were to stay within it for its 4 pulses. It’s a water field too.

Air 4 is great CC especially at close range. So far I haven’t had any real problems with Warhorn, perhaps the fire field and earth 5 can load faster, and heat sync can transfer all boons, not just fury and might. Otherwise, it feels great playing with it.

Pros and cons of Warhorn and Focus

Hi. I’ve been running Dagger/Warhorn for a while now.

Traits: water 1/3/1, earth 3/3/3, tempest 3/2/3.
Sigils: Sigil of renewal on dagger, sigil of transference on warhorn
Rune: Rune of Soldier
Amulet: Mender’s
Heal: Wash the Pain Away
Utilities (from left to right): Feel the Burn, Flash-Freeze, Aftershock
Elite: Rebound!

I’m running Aquamancer’s Training because Warhorn’s 4 and 5 have some insane healing. The 5 skill also grants regeneration when coupled with Earth 4 and sometimes Earth 3. This yields a potential of up to three condi cleanses, just shy from Focus earth 4’s 4 condi cleanse.

So what are pros and cons of each? Thanks.

Warriors as previously said, and mesmers are this build’s biggest weakness. I’ve played with these S/F builds for a long time before this thread was even made, and gotta say it’s pretty solid. Lots of skill required though.

I’m still looking on ways to use Warhorn for burst builds. I love warhorn for bunker/auramancer, but to see it to significant damage with a viable build would be amazing.

I just feel like Focus has a lot of unnecessarily UP skills (flame wall, fire aura, chilling gust, comet) and the air 4 skill is a lil worse than granting a magnetic aura and having the enemy shoot theirselves.

Though I agree WH needs a buff. All of its skills need to be improved (except for Earth 4 – the protection and MA is amazing), otherwise it’s solid.

But like BlackBeard said, demo is the way to go. Heals will be more effective.

I thought we got 4 items?
Guaranteed ToT bag + 2 items + 1 uncommon item.

I got a revive orb, a toy miniature egg (Mini Shade), and the new glider on my first chest! Win!! Definitely love this one far more than the previous BL chest.

Staff ele has the highest DPS in PvE………

In PvP or WvW why don’t you try Scepter/Focus Fresh Air build? That or Dagger/Focus for auramancer. D/D is currently dead especially after the spec update and all the elite specs.

Scepter/Focus really shines against zerk builds and builds with low HP.

Staff ele is hands down the most rewarding and most difficult weapon to use with an ele in sPvP.

I, like you, love AoE’s. But if your opponent is mobile it can be stressful sometimes landing a hit. However, I have yet to try staff in sPvP extensively, but if you’re aggroed (e.g. in a 1v1), you can have some very nice protective benefits from your AoE stacks on you. Have a ranger that is unaffected? No problem, use magnetic aura and ES. This build is so beautiful because there are so many few players with it – yet – it’s one of the most hardcore builds out there. I’ll give it a shot, hopefully my hair is intact within a month’s time XD

You can always try more classes

Also one different class won’t automatically wipe a group numerous time unless it replaces a big role (e.g. tanks)

Do you have Ascended gear, OP? If not, you’ll probably have to wait anyway. Try all the classes first, trust me there is no one class that is played a certain way.

Each class has various weapons with different skills, so you can always try them out.

Eles, if played right, are incredible in sPvP.

I am so narrow. I love Scepter/Focus fresh air but decided to theorycraft a build…

And Z0MG I just made a build that utilizes powerful bursts, very high mobility, very high sustain, very great support, and long-lasting boons!!

I think I just hit the jackpot with this build. Ever since I used it my teams have been winning (2-3 games so not a whole lot of experience).

I’ve tried it in 1v1s on 1v1 servers. It’s very very good. High ceiling too. Very high defense, very high healing, very high damage.

Scepter/Warhorn master race. I’ve yet to have extensive experience with it, but from what I’ve played with it, it has been absolutely powerful. I don’t think I’ve ever died in an sPvP game with it so far…

Edit: with more playing, condition users seem to be the only potential threat with this build, but otherwise everything should be good with the build

Only thing ele struggles in atm is Spvp in a dps role. Every other game mode they’re either top tier or very viable.

Scepter/Focus. Constant lightning strikes and fire attunement make some very intebse critical bursts.
