And regarding Mystic Runestones – unlike Icy Runestones, Mystic Runestones have one purpose: generation 2 legendary weapons. Icy Runestones are used for four ascended backpieces, the Offerings of Koda, a guild upgrade, and a scribing recipe – things in which you may need to or want to save up on. Though truth be told… why did we even need Mystic Runestones? They’re fully identical except easier acquisition due to vendor(s) placement.

That’s actually a good point – why are Mystic Runestones a thing? Wouldn’t just be easier to reuse Icy ones?

Without Scholar of Secrets, you wouldn’t be able to buy Mystic Runestones, therefore you wouldn’t be able to finish the Gen 2 legendaries.

The original 4 Gen 2 legendaries (HOPE, Nevermore, Chuka and Champawat, and Astralaria) do not use Mystic Runestones because you need Scholar of Secrets to buy the Tier 4 recipes for them.

I tried running Sage’s Mallyx in the past. Unfortunately the heal deficit from Sage’s compared to Mender or Magi is too great for it to work. I find it odd how Anet didn’t bump the base heal from Natural Harmony but instead bumped the coefficient. It’s like they didn’t want people to use amulets without healing power.

Although it could work if you opt for complete outgoing heals.

Condi mesmers counter every DPS build except for Dragonhunters and Thieves and other Mesmers.

Imagine if conditions were reverted back to how it was before HoT, one stack of damaging conditions. Even though the change would kill off condi mes, condi warr and condi rev, maybe condi necro, it would revive a ton of builds that don’t rely on condition clears.

Anyone else think condition stacking killed off build diversity? Keep it in PvE, but not in PvP or even WvW.

Completely untrue.

Nor have I seen 4 total DHs “every game”, on average I see 1-2 every game.

If there was a weapon that could have gotten the legendary weapon treatment it would have been the lightning storm bow.

I’m glad some ppl like it, its just not to my tastes.

I can agree with this. That would have been my second pick and to be honest I have a suspicion that the lightning bow actually was a design for gen 2 legendary longbow, then when they “indefinitely suspended” the legendary weapons, they just decided to release it as a gem store weapon. I have no actual proof of this, just a feeling.

“4. Was the storm bow originally the second longbow but made gemstore after the suspension?

No, the Storm Bow was never intended to be a legendary."

Lake Doric reward track gives you 100 Jade Shards at the end. Salvage all of them for unbound magic. Buy magic warped packets with the unbound magic. Sell the mats. Ez money

Halloween and Wintersday season reward tracks give good money too by selling the bags you get.

Three Legends [Suggestion]

in Revenant

Posted by: Abelisk.4527

Abelisk.4527

I think having three legends would solve many of Revenant’s problems.

Going 50/50 on two legends seems underwhelming. Mixing three subsets = build diversity.

For example, if we take the Power Rev build and throw Mallyx in the mix, you automatically get the answer for low condition cleanse.

There are so many possibilities by allowing three legends. As far as I can tell I don’t see any broken mechanics that can come from this. Remember that by going to one legend you can’t use the other legends, so just because you have more legends doesn’t automatically make you 2x more powerful. It just allows for more build variety.

3. Bloodtide Coast - I always get a headache because of how drab it is.

4. Lornar’s Pass - TOO big. Painful to get the hearts done.

I’ve been playing Fashion Mage’s build ever since I spotted it on Metabattle, I love it despite having medium sustain compared to higher sustain for builds like Tempest and Druid.

The support build should only work with high outgoing heals IMO. Pure of Voice is just worse than the outgoing healing trait since Feel the Light itself is outgoing in nature. Also since we don’t have too many Aegis procs I found Honorable Staff a much better trait. More Empower for team Might, more CC, more heals, more swiftness and cleave. Plus extra boon duration is always nice.

I wanna try DH over Virtues though, the biggest problem by taking DH is the lack of Virtue refresh.

Amalgameted gemstones yes, but don’t really need the doubloon’s but am fine if you do.

Why the gemstones, but not the doubloons? Especially the doubloons should have an inventory slot as they are drops from the game.

You can get Gemstones from the meta events in HoT as drops via event rewards.

There’s a difference. If I want to craft an axe, I need ores. But to get those ores I need to go out in the world to get them (or buy them from the TP, but that goes for about everything, so I’ll ignore that for now).
Now, if I need to craft some nice soup, I need roux. I can stay at my crafting station to craft that roux (provided I have enough of the base materials stored).

Okay. Now compare that not to ore, but to ingots. Don’t you see some similarity now?

Nailed it. I might be in the minority, but if I’m not then adding base components into the mat storage is great.

First, people who play GW2 and want to craft might use up all their mats to craft a bunch of the components. Say, you craft 90 Roux. You discover a bunch of soup but don’t have any more mats. You decide to continue crafting later, but you can’t deposit the roux! Should you sell it or destroy it? Or maybe you could just deposit it to use it later.

Same for dowels. Crafting should IMO be noob-friendly and not too offputting, so attracting an even larger playerbase by allowing better accessibility via mat storage is the best option.

I would say keep everything but the high-end items, namely the expensive Miyani vendor items (Bloodstone Shard, Eldritch Scroll come to mind – who would ever get to 250 stacks??)

Also for the Salt and Pepper component, I have gotten them from chests in the Troll’s Revenge JP, and couldn’t deposit them.

I like both and im more than happy that they put them in ranked rotation, boring to play the same maps over and over

This.

Also I love the coliseum redesign, the sidepoints no longer benefit classes with teleports.

People seem to dislike Capricorn because of the bell mechanic, I think that it just adds to the strategy. Maybe have 1-2 people get the bell, the rest keep capping.

Coliseum has the stat buffs which help your team and also help you survive/kill.

I think the death kill buff should go through invulnerability such as ele’s mistform, mesmer’s stealth teleport, and thief’s teleport… why can those 3 classes survive but everyone else can’t?

A good way to fix this is to immediately kill the downed enemy right after they get downed, with the death animation taking place after.

Also, the shield buff should give the person who got it some really durable stats so that players would actually want to get the buff.

And maybe have the sword buff give some really hard-hitting damage stats? Something to make them worthwhile.

Core Bunker Staff Guard (PvP build)

in Guardian

Posted by: Abelisk.4527

Abelisk.4527

Tried staff with my bunker build, and after experimenting with numerous utilities and traits I found what I think is a core build which nice healing potential.

Normally for a bunker build I would take Mace/Focus + Sword/Shield, but I found that Staff was better in teamfights because of the CC/swiftness AoE/projectile heal/might stack+heal.

The issue, I noticed and many others have as well, was lack of stability. With Hallowed Ground buffed pretty significantly (retal hurts!) I incorporated it into the build.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAW5enkICVDh1DBGDB8DhjGiKvC1X+dH2FIAwFQGMCA-TpxHABAcBAU+IAIfZA/PIA/s/w3PAAA

Sigil of Energy: On Staff you have slightly less self-sustain so having close to a free dodge is always welcome.

Sigil of Agility: Staff has some of the slower skillcasts, so with Quickness it will be easier and a bit more of a guarantee to complete a cast.

Sigil of Cleansing: Minor condition cleanse since we are not going to use Contemplation of Purity. Obviously the condition gap isn’t filled by this one sigil, but this weapon set is more durable than staff.

Sigil of Annulment: It’s always good to have some boonstrip! Easy to use since all 4 of the skills can land an attack from the weapon set.

Heal: I did use Shelter, but despite the block, it doesn’t heal enough given the cooldown for it. 20 CD > 30 CD. In some teamfights Litany of Wrath has the potential to outheal Shelter, perhaps significantly. You also get the condi cleanse more often.

Utilities…

Smite Condition: fair condi cleanse and heal on short CD, and does some minor damage. This could be replaced by Contemplation of Purity if you feel low on condition cleansing.

Sanctuary: heavy areal CC, heal, projectile denial. Fun to use, powerful in teamfights. Can also be used to prevent enemies from advancing similar to Staff 5.

Hallowed Ground: AoE pulsing stability and retaliation. Safe zone + bites fast incoming attacks with the retaliation. Best part is its 36 CD!

Remember to save your Renewed Focus until you completely run out of options and are in a dangerous position.

Traitlines…

Valor: buffs meditations and buffs shield. Meditations are crucial for the elite enhancement + condi cleanse bonus.

Honor: extra group support and self sustain. Buffs staff.

Virtues: on demand stunbreak + stability, and lowers virtue cooldowns. Buffs consecrations.

Let me know what you think!

How will PvE enemies deal with the portals?

Why would having two off-handed weapons make sense? Lorewise it makes no sense at all (two shields o.o)

also I don’t think the Phantasm abilities being manually used would benefit. With Phantasms you can cast multiple skills on the enemy at once.

As for the Phase Retreat suggestion, that won’t help at all in PvE other than mess up AoE stacking. Phase Retreat at its current state is already very powerful and does no harm to allies.

Here’s the catch: skills need to be introduced in all 3 game modes. They must all function similarly. Anet absolutely does not want to be juggling 2-3 different skillsets (PvP/WvW and PvE) since it would require 2x balance requirement.

PvP Feels Utterly Broken For Necros

in PvP

Posted by: Abelisk.4527

Abelisk.4527

Well, if you’re running one of the meta builds it’s absolutely crucial you receive support of some kind. Necros are simply not meant to be alone in PvP unless they are running some type of bunkery/tanky build.

Warriors do indeed have many CCs, however most of the CCs, if not all of them have had their cast time nerfed in a recent patch. Just time your dodges to their obvious telegraphs and you should do fine.

Guardians don’t really have too much knockback. Deflecting Shot + Shield 5 are the only knockbacks they really have. However, Spear of Justice (the tethering spear) pulls enemies. Deflecting Shot (longbow 3) and Spear of Justice are telegraphed, and can be dodged. Deflecting Shot is very obvious (bluish charge-up in front of the Guardian). A more off-meta Guardian weapon is the hammer which does have a fair amount of CC. In PvP however Hammer isn’t the best choice.

Also, it’s good for Guardians to “never run out of boons” in your case. Where are your boon corrupts? What Guardians truly do have a nice amount of are condition cleanses.

I’ve been interested in the turret Engi build I’ve been seeing in PvP, particularly the hard hitting one. Every Engi that runs turrets seems to run different specs, however there is one build that caught my eye. Won’t comment on the CC as I’ve yet to learn their build. For the most part, gyros should be better than turrets as turrets can easily be destroyed with power specs.

Rangers are definitely a tough class to duel against. They have longbow CC plus the root, and taunts. It’s tricky fighting them but can be pulled off especially in teamfights.

A good tip for Mesmers is to look for the Mesmer who has very natural movement (non-AI). Clones can never dodge like a player can. If you ever learn to play a Mesmer you should have no problem with identifying the real one. Also, the real Mesmer will show Alacrity (the purple smoky aura) right after shattering (shattering is when all the clones run to you and “explode”). When they run condi they are dangerous.

And finally Elementalists. The D/F Auramancer build is a tough one to crack, but manageable even solo. Necros (particularly condition Necros) should be able to defeat an Elementalist in a 1v1. They are significantly more vulnerable below 75% HP. There is an option in the settings that toggles enemy health percentage.

Are the new zones worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Abelisk.4527

There are dynamic events. Head of the Snake in particular has a new system that states certain places are under attack, and you can either repel the enemy invasion or let the area be invaded. If it’s invaded you must eliminate enemies until the morale falls, which then reinforcements will arrive with a legendary. If you defeat the reinforcements the area is saved temporarily.

There are a few small events scattered here and there in Head of the Snake as well that help with the hearts, for achievements, or for farming/loot/etc. There is also a leather farm.

The latest map, Flashpoint, has a bunch of champion events. There is also a meta-event that ends in requiring two legendary enemies to be defeated so that’s pretty cool. You get a bunch of the map currency from these events.

The maps themselves are visually impressive at least to me. By farming you can obtain the map’s currency which can be used for ascended equipment, items, and Unbound Magic.

There is one more map coming up (I think) and then the xpac.

I don’t have any problems with +1’s especially from Thieves, except if I’m sub 50% health constantly.

I always save a stunbreaker in case there IS a +1 incoming, and I also save Renewed Focus unless I’m on the verge of dying.

For me my worst 1v1 matchup so far has been Shoutbow Druid because of their ability to deal a lot of burst damage while being tankyish.

I tried Marauder but also tried Paladin. I’m using everything that you’re using in your build except I opted for Rune of the Lynx for mobility.

Also the playstyle for this build is a little different than Medi, you need to focus more on fighting on point than engaging enemies kiting around since you lack a lot of gap closers. However, sword 2 does a decent job at getting to enemies. Scepter 3 is good for landing damage as well as Spear of Justice.

Also, despite lacking Virtues, this build is not glass at all. The Fragments of Faith trap is excellent for a stunbreaker because of the following stability. The Aegis it provides is also welcome.

Finally the heal, Litany of Wrath. I love this heal. It scales in teamfights where if the Smite Condition from Smiter’s Boon hits more enemies, more HP is returned back to you. Your symbols will return 25% of damage dealt back to you. It cleans 2 condis off and grants Fury. I love it. Best part is the 16 sec CD.

And, by the way, I’ve seen a lot of folks saying “you can just turn off the other tags.” Uh, no. It’s really important to see the other, guilded, organized groups on a map. That is not a solution to a problem that should never exist in the first place.

Also, on this subject of tags, I often run tagless. I know other commanders and guilds that almost never run a tag. This is for a good reason. I just don’t feel like getting a lot of people following me. Some guilds don’t want any pugs, and run privately. I just want to play with a small group. I also don’t want to take pugs off the other tag. There’s also the spying issues.

If the current WvW devs played WvW on a regular basis, they would know and understand all this. It’s obvious that whoever’s idea this was is not a regular WvW player. While well intentioned, and I appreciate that, it’s just a bad idea. Please don’t implement it.

You guys are starting to blow it out of proportion.

First you say turning off tags is not an option because you want to see tags, then you say you and guilds run without tags, so you ain’t seeing them anyways. You can continue to do all of the above, the bonus is only for the commander and it probably isn’t even going to amount to much.

Also you do remember there’s different tag colors right? Some servers still use the color tag system for roles, you can use those rules to see who’s running. Pug tags=blue, scouts=red, guild=green/purple/yellow. Adapt and use them again.

Wvw isn’t your own personal playground, it’s shared with hundreds of others, there are things you may not like about that, but the devs don’t like exclusive play, just going to have to deal with it.

Wvw needs an infusion of players, it needs to be accommodating to new players and commanders, the old way certainly wasn’t working in that department.

I agree, I would love seeing more tags around. Sometimes I go into WvW and (as a newbie to WvW) have nobody to join especially when there aren’t any tags in any of the maps.
