Are necros op now?

Lets put it this way… I got on my pal’s necro to see the changes. I’ve plaid MAYBE 2 hours of necro in total TOPS. I was able to 1v3 with ease (WvW Vs. non-upscaled). Far easier than any of my 80’s. It’s as strong on land as my mesmer is underwater. Fear + massive cond burst + huge survivability is too strong right now.

I see some comparisons to the HGH eng… eng isn’t even close. It would be if my eng had fear + another hp bar though…

I had no problem pugging this dung. The last boss everyone kept on her, dodged out before the blast hit, then restacked. For the explosions we all just scattered and dodged circles. It was easy.

For the love of god yes!

That pistol and shield are absolutely fantastic, it has Engineer written all over it in 7 different languages, including one completely made up by a 7 year old named Mark.

If we didnt get a chance to acquire these weaponskins i would be incredibly disapointed. Not to mention a massive waste of assets making weaponskins just for pve mobs to use.

This. Sadly though, I take their absence as an indicator that they will be in gem store chests following dragon bash, as to not put up competition for their own sales…

I don’t care how they do it. I want a rapier. I just want some confirmation that they WILL be available to us.

Retal isn’t OP… it is very unbalanced though… give it an icd and slightly higher damage. That part is now fixed and everybody is happy.

Retaliation isn’t supposed to be a 100% uptime boon either (as previously stated by the devs long ago). If they still feel that way, that should be fixed as well.

CoF P1 can be done in 6 mins with the proper group. If you’re going for this you should watch some tutorial videos of how to speed clear CoF.

If you’re not a zerk war/mes then you can always dung token farm. CoF 1/2, HOTW 1/2/3 are easy and all reward 60+ tokens per path. Both of these dungs will let you buy rares for 30 tokens which are high enough to salvage for ectos. So each path will get you 2 extra rares on top of what you get in drops + completion $.

SE is another fast dung – 1/3 but isn’t high enough level to turn in for rare salvages. What you could do with dungs like that though… is save up 1,200 tokens, get 4 daggers, toss them all in the forge and sell what you get from that (pray for spark).

Also a jfyi – gw2crafts will tell you how to craft to 400 for the lowest cost (updates hourly).

The dev’s previously stated they would be increasing the guardian scepter auto attack movement speed 20% to match the necro’s staff auto attack speed. The notes say 30%. That alone makes me believe they are fake.

Players need to be able to either a) Track thieves in stealth by using some sort of debuff that makes them slightly more visible or b) Be able to debuff a thief so he cannot stealth for 10 seconds.

preventing stealth would be obnoxious in the other direction, but the first idea is spot on. I’ve been saying over and over, have flicker-on-hit and/or retain visible condition particle effects (like burning) when stealthed so the thief can be tracked (albeit not targeted)

It doesn’t matter if you can’t target them as you can just cleave with mele. You should be able to predict a thief without this suggested crutch anyways… god knows I do all day long on all of my classes. Thief is fine.

the issue with thieves is that you need to setup your build specifically to counter them. No one class should force others to spec just so they can stand a chance against them. Thanksfully, ANet has fixed thief-godmode so atleast we “lesser” classes stand a chance rather than have 10+ people running around in circles spamming aoe all the time.

This is blatantly false. All classes can deal high burst damage. You should have some way of dealing with that. That sort of thinking is hardly thief specific.

Some classes are stronger Vs. other classes and weaker Vs. other ones. Nothing wrong with that at all since you can still outskill them and win.

I don’t build any of my non-thief characters to specifically deal with thieves, yet they all destroy thieves.

I find a complaint from a mesmer about the thief class to be quite odd… mesmers have a LOT of counters to the thief gameplay without having to build for it.

If you’re having problems with thieves there are many videos that will show you how the thief behaves. Use that. If that’s not enough, go roll one. I constantly cloak and dagger off of other already stealthed thieves. If I can regularly predict them, then so can you.

I have no problem beating a thief on my other 80’s. They aren’t build specifically to fight thieves. They aren’t bunkers either. They just have ways of dealing with burst damage (which all classes can do). I just know how thieves play and I’m not running total glass.

Most people seemed to have not picked up the box while in the cutscene and used them on the suspects there, but I know I did, just when I came out of that cutscene the box had gone and I didn’t have any mail that my friend did.

Just confusing really.

Many seem to be having this problem. There are several threads in the bug section of the forums… with many people not having the “fix” working in them. Hopefully this will be resolved in a patch shortly

scene of crime box dont work

I do not know if it is the same problem, but I went into the instance in LA, talked to the detective and she gave me the box, thinking I had to use this at ogre I left before I did the rest of the instance, now when I re enter instance she won’t talk to me but I cannot interact with the characters to complete it, because I cannot complete instace I cannot talk to the creatures in the world either. Hence at the moment I’m screwed :/

Marjory may be detecting that you already have a tassi box in your inventory. If you destroy the tassi box in your inventory, re-enter the instance and speak with her, she will give you a new one and progress the event so that it can be completed.

It won’t let us re-enter the instance. Tried doing so on multiple characters

I’ve done dead end and the cutscene in LA with the 5 suspects. I left the cutscene and I didn’t get the investigation kit. I got told to redo the cutscene in LA but it just tells me to go look for the suspects.

I also did not get the mail that apparently most people got. I already have the wings but I wanted to get all the achievements

Unfortunately its only level 22.

Anyways, most thieves are free loot bags, but every now and then you get one that’s a real kitten. Steal > heartseeker > heartseeker and my ele loses 17k health, that’s really quite annoying. Sure I can dodge or use a cantrip but normally it only delays the inevitable.

Please tell me how a steal and 2 heartseekers do 17k damage without your hp already being low. I would love to know.

IMO pistol 2 is just a waste of time/ini. It’s not worth it to just give a 50/50 chance of your bleeds not getting ripped off. You also technically have dancing dagger cripple… but dear god that thing never hits. Caltrops used to be better before the kitten red circles. Only complete noobs will just stand in them now.

I also used 3 krait/3 afflicted plus the pizza instead of what you have. Iirc the 3 15%‘s didn’t kick it up to another bleed tick… so instead I went with more cond dmg + cond dmg/duration food to get it over that hump.

Some apothecary jewelry/trinkets (settlers) and/or the event back would be a good/cheap way for you to up your survival (back then I opted to use a couple apothecary armor pieces since the trinks were SO expensive). Having only vit and no toughness doesn’t do a lot of good. You lose a little power, but your main damage is from bleeds anyways. Some of the condition damage loss is returned by the crystals (higher % with toughness) and you get more healing. I wouldn’t go full apoth or anything, just toss in a few to up your toughness.

I ran 5/0/30/15/20 instead of what you’re running now. Fluid strikes doesn’t add to condition damage, just direct. Hard to catch… since your #3 basically does the same thing. You should be tanky & survivable enough to deal with the stuns with that and shadowstep.

Another thing that was annoying to me when on P/D is that all conditions get wiped when they go down. In group Vs. group it’s not as big of a deal vs 1vX. They are able to get that downed person back up rather quickly. Another weaponset can take advantage of that situation far more by straight up downing the resser or taking out the vast majority of their HP while they try to res.

I just find DD/SB to take people down in groups so much faster (Valk+Div+Rest Zerk – 0/30/30/10/0). P/D is VERY forgiving though… it’s a decent place for new thieves to start. I just find it to be overall less useful outside of a few roles.

Dont want to start a fight but this is not necessarily true.

I move around in WvW with SB 5 and dodges. I dont use SoS.

I see enemy, I poison field enemy and if they are dumb I cluster bomb the field to add weakness. I typically Caltrops, steal then C/D. this also adds cripple.

If they cleanse I then swap to P/D and give them poison from sigil of doom and then apply bleed stacks.

You can reapply bleed very fast. This works vs most chars that aren’t really specced for Condi removal (like shout guardian) but I find lots of people in WvW aren’t specced for it or don’t really pay attention.

Depending on how lucky i am i give them Poison x2, weakness, cripple and lots of bleeds.

If they are pro, doesn’t always work, if they are not – pwn

From my experience anyone worth a salt will have some form of consistant cond removal. If they are baddies and don’t… then you could have downed them much faster with another weapon set. The only class I can think of this not being true for would be the mesmer which naturally lacks cond removal and has so many wonderful clones to c&d off of while staying within range of the actual target.

P/D is only bleeds. Yes you can take a sb as your other weapon (which I did as well) but then the damage from that is really low outside of the pois/cluster bomb explosion bleeds.

Weakness as it stands is pretty bad… and to get that you have to not explode the cluster bomb (fewer bleeds).

I took the pois on steal minor trait to help avoid needing to swap to sb to get another condition on them. It helps… but it’s still not great.

Yaks lack these things and it’s very hard to stop a p/d from killing a yak. You’re also very survivable so you make a good scout. But for PvP vs. anyone decent… it’ll just go on endlessly. P/D takes a while to kill just about anything regardless as well.

I’m not saying you can’t kill some one with P/D or that P/D can’t play a good role. It’s just lacking in several areas including application of conditions outside of bleeds. A few state of the games ago this was brought up and the dev’s agreed. So… I really hope they change pistol 2 to a pois shot… it would really help this weapon set as well as PP.

It is good for a scout/yak slapping if that’s your role though. I’v had 10+ people unable to stop me from killing a yak with it. It’s hilarious to watch people spam the area where I c&d-ed when I’m nowhere near that area anymore. The build I used is in the thief build compilation if that’s still kicking around in these forums.

Mesmers can do a bit more than a Necro, while still being somewhat tougher to kill. Necromancers don’t come close to the mobility that a Mesmer has, and the problem with what you described is that Necro has to build specifically for one or two things that make him suck at everything else. Mesmers get everything they need on a single build, considering everything they could need happens to be in their class mechanic and weapon set.

Granted, Necromancers/Warriors are definitely looking better the closer we get to the patch, but that’s then, this is now. After the patch, I may change my opinion completely and be screaming for Necro to be nerfed and for Mesmer to be buffed.

I would just suggest you wait until you see what they have planned is out before asking for new things to be done. It does seem to take them a while to get around to it all though : /

How does one beat the renowned phantasm or the shatter cat mesmer builds?

Phantasmal: Terrormancer, or Beastmaster Condition SB Ranger.

Shatter: Wellmancer/Terrormancer, Beastmaster Ranger, Phantasmal Mesmer, Meditation Guardian.

Rock paper scissors. However, that’s only for 1v1s. My point was that they are not overpowered in 1v1s, but they bring far too much to the table in team fights.

Also, to the poster above, Deathshroud does not stop a Mindwrack entirely unless you trait specifically for it, which means you’d be useless at everything else. Once your deathshroud is gone, it can take ages to get it back up again, which by that time you’re dead. Any Necromancer that sits inside Deathshroud for more than 2 seconds is a bad Necromancer, Mesmer is literally the only class in the game that can FORCE us to stay inside Deathshroud just to survive.

If you saw the last state of the game… they are going to make it easier for you to get in deathshroud more often. They also are adding in another skill. Out of all the classes the future updates look brightest for necro’s. Waiting kinda sucks though, I agree.

Necro’s bring a lot to a team fight as well. Different than what a mesmer brings, but it’s strong. Large aoe dark combo feilds that corrupt boonsblind/chill/vuln/high dps/heal… just wow. Mesmer lacks aoe, necro has it in spades. In group fights necros are amazing and I love having them around. You should see a LOT of this if you’re doing WvW.

I find them on even footing with what the mesmer brings… just in different ways.

lol…..so the skill can hit between ZERO and 4 times. this is intended?

Judging by the attack pattern Jon posted, it should always hit at least twice on a stationary target. Sorrows video clearly shows that this isn’t the case.
I see what the berserker is meant to do and whakittens advantages are, also every hit can crit independently, but at least two hits should always connect. Imo if they can’t find the problem, its mechanics should be reworked altogether considering it’s our only ranged direct damage weapon. GS is already a strange weapon because of the auto-attack and phantasm designed to keep enemies at range with a bouncing skill (mirror blade) that says the opposite…

That’s the same conclusion that I came out of looking at the picture. It shouldn’t ever hit 0 times on a static target from what I see in that image. Something isn’t working properly.

Im tired of having gc mesmers dealing more damage and surviving better than a gc thief.

No they don’t deal more damage than a gc mesmer. No they don’t survive any better.

Idk why you would even want to be a gc thief anyways… valk armor, div runes, zerk rest… 0/30/30/10/0. 3k attack, 45% crit (52% from behind, 100% on backstabs), 112% crit damage, 2.4k armor, 15.5k hp… without food/buffs/stacks.

Hmm, i’ve never seen myself doing 10k+ dmg in 1s without having to spent quite some time of preparation beforehand.

And just for you: Mesmers die horribly against conditions. A single Flurry of a warrior can easily deal several thousand points of damage because there just isn’t any frequently available way to cleanse it.

This is how mesmer is balanced.

Thieves and Mesmers will ALWAYS be the major source of QQ’s regardless of overall balance. They punish new/inexperienced players the most because of their deception tricks. People still complain about thief in hotjoin… despite them being seldom seen on higher ranked teams.

What is the best server for WvW currently

TC. By far the best community I’ve encountered. I x-fered all over the place (back when they were free) and never found anything close. I find that most other servers tend to give up after a wipe or two, get mad at each other, etc. etc. I’ve also never seen another server go take a keep just to get some one their last vista/poi so they can make their legendary.

My guard rotflstomps thieves… so does my eng… and my mesmer. They aren’t built to specifically take on thieves. They do have ways to deal with CC and burst damage though (hardly thief specific). It’s very much a learn to play issue.

Agreed. They just need to increase the rewards for capping/killing players up to what people make in PvE.

We STILL get rewards based on the level of the players we’ve killed… regardless of our own level… if it was a 5v20 etc. As a PvE player… kill any mob of any level and you get rewards of your own level.

Go farm CoF mindlessly and make tons of gold plus tokens for exotics (or multiple guaranteed rares to salvage). Go zerg a world event boss, get a gauranteed rare plus multiple chances at more rares/exotics.

But ONE rare per WvW level is just too much to ask for apparently… what… the… kitten.

WvW is where the fun is. PvE is where the gold is. This is what needs fixing.
