here is an idea i got for WVW….what about summoning? like being able to capture big monsters and using them in WVW to aid us in war. you know? stuff like that, i honestly want grand scale wars….and if you want to take PVP into the real competitive field, i dont think charging gems for war equipment is logical =/…for somethings yea sure, but its a tricky thing. i honestly want WVW to turn into something grand, something epic.

EDIT: if we get the new race of birds (forgot the name), then you guys NEED to add a flying mechanic to the game, obviously NOT an overpowered one, but we would need it….we are dealing with a bird-like race and it would be beyond disapointing to not add flying. also a great implementation to WVW would be aerial combat, and use of the MANY technologies in the game of which we have NO contact with….ever.

i am playing for the hopes of an expansion to be honest, that and pvp. PVP needs a HUGE boost….you CANT have big competitions for PVP if the PVP of the game has had no big improvements/additions since launch =/….

In all honesty, if an expansion does come in 2015 assuming they announced it on the same year, I’d be more worried than hyped as it usually pertains to rushed content as opposed to announcing it on 2015 and releasing it say a year later.

that is what i fear too! because since they have so much pressure to make an expansion, i worry that it wont come out good. Anet ACTUALLY thought that they didnt need a big expansion at the beginning (“not any time soon”), but life has shown them otherwise. i hope they dont RUSH the expansion, and i hope that they been working on an expansion AT LEAST on the side, since the beginning.

It won’t happen. They have sad time and again that they aren’t gonna do expansions and if they suddenly released one out of no where it would shatter what little credibility they have left in the eyes of the community.

There would be almost 0 reason to believe them on anything, one way or the other.

Oh come on, they just do whatever they want. It’s always been that way.

yea but compare what they are doing now to what they did before. yea they DID always do whatever they wanted, but…..who besides GW1 players….knew about GW1? the game went off the radar a million years ago. they are trying to make GW2 a “thing”…..a serious thing LOL. i doubt they can do whatever they want, unless they want to fall off….again.

No need for expansions. Period.
Stop making there inane threads and get off.

you are obviously dazed and confused. play another year and come back. if this to you is a casual game, then thats great and dandy, but casual games can never go pro, nor ever be considered a serious game that brings in money, therefore preventing it from thriving in the market for the long-term.

How many expansions have actually had influence on the areas of the game not introduced by the expansion itself? Very, very few.

lol, it does. the big influence is in the area, which by the way….is HUGE (gw2 areas are nothing in comparison in the living story). not only that, but usually a new culture is introduced, a new world, and a good sense of, once again, RENEWAL. lol just stop suggesting that the living story is the same as an expansion. the living story is a NICE addition to the game, but it will never be an expansion. just get it out of ur head, thats just being narrow minded.

Is it being narrow-minded to consider that one thing can be as good as another? Seems the opposite.

Nothing that an expansion introduces can’t be introduced via Living Story. Nothing at all. The only difference between the content is the rate it gets introduced.

with the way they have been going about the LS…..then no it can never be considered an expansion. the LS would have to increase its content quality 10×. lol once again, you dont understand. can they make an expansion and call it part of the living story? LOL OF COURSE THEY CAN! sadly, that wont be the case, because if they make epic additions to living story, then people will RAGE when the receive the quality they got for season 1….and 2. if you still cant manage to understand i refuse to reply since you cant manage to wrap your head around it.

Edit: its not just the speed of the content, its the QUALITY! sit back and give it some thought.

Bringing back large events from LS was discussed in the guild raids CDI: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/cdi/CDI-Guilds-Raiding Consumables which spawn guild map instances have been datamined.

Some episodes were – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fractured – some episodes have potential to be turned into dungeons/fractals, and it has been and is being requested at some points: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/If-Glint-s-Lair-Labyrinth-Were-Fractals/

“We’re interested in bringing back LS1 episodes, maybe as a story journal, maybe not, but as long as this content makes sense”, “Twisted Marionette will come back” (won’t care to look for links, sorry) are dev’s words – they are looking into it and possibly doing stuff already behind the scenes, at least since they have the whole China which wasn’t able to participate in it.

well i am sure ANET is wondering how to fully bring back season 1…..well….why not turn the BIG events into a dungeon? like the fall of lion’s arch, turn it into an instance. and have all the rewards that the fall of lion’s arch event had. make the portal in lion’s arch and make it permanent of course (we are all sick of temp content by now).

The only difference between Living Story releases and an expansion is that Living Story comes over time instead of all at once. Well, that and cost to players.

I greatly prefer the “over time” releases as the game keeps feeling new. I’m not waiting for a year or so for anything to happen. Instead, I always have something to look forward to, even if it’s small.

If you want the expansion feeling, just don’t play for ~6 months. Then when you do play, it feels like you got an expansion.

no it wont, it definitely wont. a simple living story has nothing to do with an expansion. you know why? cause even if i wait 6months and do it, once im done, or if i get horribly bored and decide to move ANYWHERE outside the living story, then once again, everything will have been the same as it was 2years ago. lol an expansion is much more than a poorly crafted living story, an expansion is suppose to achieve a sense of renewal, like if your exploring a fascinating world in a brand new way.

one thing that i think would mess everything up in this game is if they add stronger armor than ascended!! exotic has always been a basic armor any1 can acquire. exotics are fast and easy to get, so people can jump right into the pvp fun. ascended, is a SMALL advantage that gets outweighed by skill, BUT anything stronger than THAT….would turn this game into a grindfest….hardcore grindfest, cause ascended stuff isnt easy to get in the first place. they CAN add more ascended skins, or legendary armor, but nothing stronger than ascended, or there will be a lot of problems =/.

I hope they dont make an expansion, unless it can be unlocked with gems. I bought this game because it didnt have a sub and there would be no additional costs. If they lock new content behind a payment, i would propably stop playing.

it DEPENDS on how they go about it. at the end of the day, if anet doesnt want to be considered your basic F2P game, then they NEED an expansion. how they go about it is up to them, but an expansion is necessary.

I don’t think they do NEED an expansion. Nothing can be introduced via expansion that Living Story can’t handle.

once again…DEPENDS! if the living world would have something in the scale of an expansion….then fine, BUT i doubt that is profitable….at all. if a game will do something is a large scale, they want it advertized. what they COULD do, is give the active players 2 weeks to claim the expansion, but those who miss it, then thy have to pay for it….like 20-30bucks? 20-30 is CHEAP imo…..idk how they would go about it, but they NEED to do it in a way that increases profits and causes people to start playing again.

I already find myself logging in, checking the BLTP, and then sort of shuffling my inventory until I log off. If the market hasn’t moved, my guild isn’t hosting an event, or there’s nothing going on in WvW, I’ve got nothing to do.

Another year of that? I’m going to be leaving. I suspect it will be like last year, where they release some piddly crap and a hyped up balance and ‘feature’ patch that I come back to check out. Will next year’s ‘feature pack’ have enough to make me check it out again after this year’s Massive Shrug? That’s the question. The path of least resistance is what’s holding me here for now.

My forum posting has gone up like 500% in the last two weeks because I’m so kitten bored in-game.

Exactly the problem. People are used to a hype-release cycle for casuals and gear grinds for hardcore. GW2 is deliberately a different type of game. We’ve gotten quite a bit – not an expansion’s worth, but close – but since we haven’t had the expansion hype people aren’t feeling as excited about it.

No, that’s not because of their lack of PR or hypemachine, it’s because that is recycled. Silverwastes isn’t new, it is WvW ideas with AI mobs sprinkled around. As a player that actually played the whole game instead of sticking to a niche, I’m not excited about that because it isn’t exciting, not because Neoseeker didn’t write an article about it. A couple of new enemy models, 2 hours worth of talking heads, and a constantly reworked daily system isn’t ‘close to’ an expansion.

You’re right, GW2 IS a different type of game – one that releases content more slowly than some F2P competitors, despite the same focus on microtransactions. I’m bored because I’m bored, not because they didn’t add grind. They are very good at adding grind (ascended, mawdrey, legendaries), but if I finally do grind out that legendary, it will be the same legendary I saw some dude wearing in 2013. And that will be BORING.

Ok, we will assume that GW2 isn’t even good enough to comepte vs other F2P titles. Now ask yourself, why in the world would Anet bother do anything if they get more profit than almost every single western MMO title? the game has a really healthy population compared to most other MMOs. They are gaining millions of dollars every year. And the industry has almost no compitition. All the games that have been released during the last years, have been flops more or less. Final Fantasy is a good title but again it is focused on gear/stat progression and therefore would have quite the different crowd.

It is not only GW2 being not so statisfying. The MMO market in genereal is empty more or less and companies are struggling to keep their titles alive.

you dont know what ur saying.

Yeah he made a paragraph of some whacked out comments. What I heard was a lot of other successful MMOs are doing as well but there’s not really any citations or reference with that. Hell yesterday I was shocked when I had a friend say he was playing Lord of the Rings again. I was like wow didn’t know that game still existed. Yeah he says got a few expansions out even. I know Landmark is doing fairly well as a beta. There’s of course the elephant wow. League and other games out there. Not to mention all the SoE games that are still profitable and played. I’m going to guess that little AN that seems to p off more players each patch has less then most other games. Only reason it’s not seen is because mega servers make it look like a lot more people then it really is.

When you get educated enough to the point of checking what GW2 brings to Ncsoft every quarter and comapre it to what other MMOs make, please comment then.

Until then, you are just a nive player, happy to whine, whithout understanding the basics of how the MMO industry works.

keeping up on a company’s income…doesnt educate anyone, and on top of that its spelled naive, not nive. if a gaming company didnt make a large sum to begin with, they would just go bankrupt, or they would borrow money. lol you think because something has a good start, and good advertizement means that they have no worries? the one who needs education is you. you dont understand marketing, in fact your understanding of it is so bad that you dont even consider the various basic variables that should always be taken into account.

balance changes and slight adjustements that shift meta builds =/= significant content updates

But those changes included adds and changes to the environment and content.

The Lion’s Arch events? The Nightmare Tower leveled the area. Then there’s Dry Top. The Silverwastes. South Sun Cove. The Cliffs with the sky crystals. Those off the top of my head.

Seems like splitting hairs over the massive amounts of change with the trait system, builds, runes, etc. given the significant amount of patches and updates since the game began.

wrong, an expansion is much more than that. sorry to burst ur bubble.

Expanssions do the 1 thing ANet said they did not want to do… Split the player base.

if they make an expanssion the playerbase will be separated b2ing expanssion owners and none. This gap will reduce player base in both camps and creates a toxic enviroment, as well as now they have to do LS for both.

Also this same handfull of people (minority) that are crying there is nothing to do now, will finish the expanssion in a month and start to whine again that they have nothing to do and they neeeeeed another expanssion.

Living story can and has delivered everything an expanssion does (weapons, armor, land, etc) and has done it in a well paced manner allowing the playerbase to stay mostly together, and providing a sence of progression.

I do however would like more substancial and regular updates even if I have to wait for 1 a month b2ing updates.

Careful. You’re going to hurt yourself stretching that much. :p

I actaully agree with him because expansion also means new players have to pay much more so it’s less likely for them to get new players.

I dont’ know what’s GW2 hold in the future. I’m hoping it’s more dungeon to come, meaning GvG, or raid, some addition of new skills/ability. Obviously it’s too much to ask for everything. But I hope it’s more than just instanced single player story.

Anet are at least starting CDI on GvG. So at least they are thinking about it, if not possibly working on it.

what anet doesnt want is a repetitive grind fest, where every expansion means grinding for new gear mindlessly. lol an expansion has nothing to do with that, it all depends on how anet does it. u guys dont understand marketing nor gaming.

There’ll be an expansion in 2015. To think otherwise seems rather silly.

my thoughts exactly. they DONT have a choice. if they fail to deliver, then they will crash hard. they been trying too hard and been in the dark too long, they have an expansion. lol is a game really going to announce 50K grand prices in tournies for a game that WONT receive an expansion? loool they would crash mega hard. plus they will lose too much support if they fail to deliver. if they are going to try and go pro on the PVP/WVW/PVE then they NEED an expansion, including a lot more PVP content.

We’ve gotten almost an expansion’s worth this year, tbh. New zones, nice story for a game, tons of new skins, upgrades like the wardrobe, the trait rework (which I think is stupid and bad for the game, but it counts) and the NPE. A lot of stuff was added or updated.

ANet’s real problem is that MMO players are trained to expect an expansion. Without that hype, I’m not sure how they’ll draw the players back. Some kind of large LS release with major press releases?

was that suppose to be a joke? cause i didnt find it funny, at all. thats a really bad joke -.-

They never said they won’t do an expansion.

Actually, they have. This statement was somewhat retracted in 2013 by Mike O’Brien. He hinted, in an interview, that expansions were a possibility . . . but not any time in the near future.

“We don’t need an expansion to pay the bills, and we’re not focused on an expansion right now. I won’t try and predict the future, maybe someday we will do one, maybe we won’t. But for now we are focused on the living world. We believe we can update the world and adapt the world in any way we want to through these bi-weekly updates.”

http://www.pcgamesn.com/guildwars/guild-wars-2s-future-we-dont-need-expansion-pay-bills

All signs point to no expansion next year. Sorry. Not happening.

great basis, destroyed potential by company, trying to copy LoL in competitive sports, nothing to do in end game, cash shop spamming, lost all self-respect, super repetitive, you will quit multiple times until u quit forever. if you cant get the game for free, dont bother buying it.

dude i have seen horrible and insanely bad super F2p games run to this day, since like 2006. its not about THAT, and it will never be about THAT. its, will the game ever go anywhere? no1 wants to stick along for a game that never improves.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Adry.7512

good thoughts, all of you. yea it seems that they arent making any great improvements. maybe they arent getting enough funds from the money that GW2 gets? sadly a lot of that money goes to other games as well, like Aion or w/e the name. at the end of the day, its mostly arenanet’s fault, in companies in you dont push ur product, ESPECIALLY when that product has shown such intensely positive feedback, then you wont get anywhere. the living story, only provides minimal entertainment. the LS is something that should be there as a small short quest that u do for fun in this game, sadly its their MAIN focus. everytime i log on, i feel that i logged back into the game the same way it was when i bought it over a year ago. =/

I appreciate the value of constructive feedback but the online GW2 community just seems so ungrateful and unappreciative Just think of the negative image you are portraying for new/potential players. I think more people should know how great this game really is.

If I was Anet and I read all the crap people complain about I would find it a little disheartening. So I’m posting for the first and only time to say the following:

Anet, I love this game and I think you guys have done a fantastic job. Thank you for all your hard work! Dont forget there are people that really appreciate this game and work thats gone in to it.

New & Potential players, come and give this game a shot and decide for yourself if you like it Don’t get caught up in the negativity of some people . The complainers are the loudest voices but there is a great community in this game if you give it a try.

-happy GW2 player

wrong and dead wrong. i give u a year, stop talking until u get to a point where u can understand others. yes voice ur opinions, but dont say we shouldnt complain, cause we have PLENTYYY of reasons to complain. unless u believe that this is an average F2P game, if so, then yes its amazing, but since GW2 tries to appear to take themselves seriously, then no, i will complain, okthnxbye.

IF there is ever a first expansion, I’d guess it would focus on the Maguuma Jungle and Mordremoth. I still have a hard time believing they can fit Mordy into the living world. Not in 4 episodes.

But don’t get your hopes up, Anet have said many times they do not like the idea of actually releasing a substantial amount of content. Apparently 350 devs can barely manage 2 hours worth of content per month, for four months, before being so tired they need a 2,5 month break.

i dont understand this mentality….it makes no sense. sooo basically expand on a single living story and thats it?? with minimal changes and additions to the game? soooo i paid for a mediocre interactive storytelling game….so basically a bad single player game….BUT with mmo content…great!!

Did you got the game for a cheap price at least?
“You know what company I mean” never announced an expansion and probably never will. The living story is obviously more lucrative than an ordinary expansion and/or causes less work.

soooo the game stays….sorta dead and they expand on PVP tournies (i saw the 50K grand price)…..they dont expand on the ACTUAL pvp since its been the exact same way since launch, but they want to make it competitive? soooo is this a wanabe MOBA now? mannn i honestly have no idea what these people think they r doing, i have no idea at all!!

if it helps the company in any way, actual psychological studies show that the more people that are grouped together, the less creative the ideas will be, its better to create things on ur own in ur own head, THEN present them. also start firing some staff members, ur probably way overstaffed from what i heard. when the situation gets tough, THATS when the hunger kicks in and the creativity sparks.

Edits: no i bought it for the full price, sadly, and yes i highly regret it. 60 bucks is a big chunk of cash when you got bills to pay.

You mean its actually opposite how Skritts are behaving? The more Skritts are together the more intelligent/creative they become.
Maybe “You know what company I mean” should send the most important workers home so they can work from there. 350 devs sounds like a number thats a little bit too big.

THAT would be ideal, most artist and creative thinkers work better like that. my guess is that “you know what company i mean” has a very badly created system altogether, i been able to create an entire game with mechanics, lore, ideas, government, etc etc that i would pay monthly to play if it existed, all in my head LOL still never bothered to put on paper, and i doubt im much different than any other creative person out there, so i find it highly ridiculous how “you know what company i mean” has literally created barely anything since launch. hahahah i bet the players themselves would be better fit to run the direction in which the game is going.

cause honestly, to start announcing big cash money prices for a game that….well…hasnt gotten anywhere near any1’s expectations is well….ehhhh ill keep my opinion to myself.

I leave the game

60 bucks is a big chunk of cash when you got bills to pay.

idk if this has been said before but isnt the race mission for sylvaries when u first make the character pretty much protecting a sylvaries dream from the corruption of the forest elder dragon (no not the boss u fight in the mission)…..and obviously the nightmare court r those corrupted by the dragon.

Okay i understand the shattered wings, but the sunless wings for the living story HAVE to come back, they said that season 1 living story will be available in the story journal…which would also mean that also will the rewards and achievements.
