Theory: Cantha is coming in a few years

Whilst i’d like to hope you are right, I doubt we will ever see Cantha. I think Elona is a better chance, but also very much an outside one.

Putting aside the known issues with having Cantha in game from a cultural standpoint, the way GW2 is designed is to keep players together. Adding a whole continent is splitting the playerbase in a way which will be detrimental to the core areas and HoT especially, as it currently stands. Work would have to be done to re-design the metas and mob difficulties to be favourable for small groups and that is not small task.

In terms of a third expansion, there are other contenders which are ahead of Cantha from a logical perspective. The primary one being the Far Shiverpeaks. The Crystal Desert is also likely a higher priority.

If, and it is a huge if, we go to Cantha, it will almost certainly be a long way down the line when we have fully exhausted Tyria and the Dragon story.

Having said that, a return to Cantha would be awesome, just to see Kaineng City under the GW2 engine, especially now we have gliding

Well our next expansion will probably cover the far shiverpeaks, I mentioned this in the post. What’s left besides the crystal desert? Sure quite a few places but not enough to cover two full expansions (2nd and 3rd). After this expansion, the delopement of a new continent is a must. I’m sure that by the release of this expansion, anet will begin its work on the new continent. It won’t be the entire world, just several maps, and then on further expansions they will unlock further maps.

Deldrimor Front, Dominion of Winds, Blazeridge Mountains, and Crystal Desert. Imo, so possibly 3-4 new expansion areas.

For some reason I forget some of these areas. Okay nvm, I guess around the 5th expansion we’ll get Cantha.

The reason is plain and simple. At the moment, by the time ls3 is done, HOT will be a good size for its first expansion. Regardless many mistakes were made, which is fair given trial and error mixed with expectations, deadlines, and funds. The future of gw2 seems very bright though. We are getting the fire island chain right off the bat and for the expansion, probably all of shiver peaks plus a few other areas. There are very few areas left big enough for an expansion. I believe that gw2’s fifth expansion is going to take us to Cantha. The sixth might open up the world in the mists since, whether you know it or not, there is war going on, and its time we explored the lore of the gods. Regardless. I know for sure that Cantha or another continent is coming in the fifth expansion. I trust wholeheartedly that my theory is on point.
Edit: I changed “third” expansion to “fifth” expansion.

You Didn’t get it. I said nothing about emotes, I’m talking about postures. As in how the character looks at all times, while he/she is standing, running, walking, or carrying a weapon. I’m talking about costumizations, not emotes.

Hello guys! As I was pimping out my character with a new look and I thought to myself, “kitten wouldn’t it be awesome if I could make my character cross her arms while she is standing, or hold her weapon a certain way”. Wouldn’t it be a fun idea to have character posture varieties added to the total makeover kit? Sales would probably skyrocket for it!!

Raids and low sale in 2016Q2

Adry.7512

Raids are the only thing that’s keeping the difficulty-seeking player base interested and logging into GW2 consistently. It may not be an enormous subset of the playerbase, but it’s a significantly vocal and valuable subset. It also gives average-skill players something to work toward in a PvE sense so that there feels like real end-game content.

I hope for me and other people like me that ANet continues developing raids well into future expansions and beyond.

P.S. Assuming that raids are somehow responsible for low revenue numbers is unfounded and ridiculous.

of course and me too! that isnt anything close to what i mentioned. The requirements to play it are a mission…..not the actual gameplay.

P.S. Raids arent the reason, its the fact that they solely focused on raids and nothing else.

People dont want the do raids if it is a mission to qualify for it. People dont want to do raids if the pre-reqs are annoying to accomplish. People want to do raids for two things….a deep quest into the game’s lore, and a really cool environment to explore. GW2’s raids dont really provide enough of those to thing, considering the requirements to even participate in it. I just dont find it interesting. Guys, I know that you’re experimenting….but you desperately NEED a format…..this game’s players are sick and tired of your experiments. You can come up with a format, so come on. This game needs to be at least 70% figured out and steady, while 30% of the game’s resources/time is being used for “experiments”. You did do a good job with raids, but its no where near what it should be. The difficulty isnt whats wrong, its the requirements to participate that are wrong…..also the environment is not very fantastic….except the final boss…THAT was cool.

GW2 Sales 2Q16: a new All Time Low

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

This is what happens when you put a game out in such a competitive environment and then spend much development time fixing the mistakes you made in the game. Time needs to be invested in game development instead of fixing mistakes or canceling on promises. I believe that since gw2 has finally created a blueprint to their game, that these issue will greatly diminish. What they do need a blue print for now is on making single player content which can be recreate per new content that is dished out. Which means that now they need a blueprint for single player content. I believe the next expac will be way better than the first. Everyone learns from mistakes, and if they want to make it anywhere then they better write down all the rights and never repeat the wrongs.

Primordus and lore (spoiler alert)

in Lore

Posted by: Adry.7512

Adry.7512

Well.. We already see in-game that it is unwise to kill Elder Dragons. The whole issue with magic running rampant is directly caused by the death of two Elder Dragons.

The story is set up in such a way that there are two evils: 1) Having dead/sleeping dragons causes magic levels to increase which causes all kinds of problems, 2) having awake dragons not only kills or corrupts a lot of living creatures but it also causes magic levels to drop which Tyria needs to function.

That’s also why the egg is so important, it can potentially be a benevolent dragon that absorbs magic when there is too much and go to sleep (and thus excrete magic) when there is too little.

tl;dr Anet is already working on problematizing the whole ‘kill dragons’ thing.

Yea I really hope they keep a clear head when developing the lore, it’s the most important part of a the game. An mmorpg with no lore is a dead one. I’m just a little worried is all.

Primordus and lore (spoiler alert)

in Lore

Posted by: Adry.7512

Adry.7512

If primordus is the next dragon, I truly hope we don’t actually kill him. Remember that elder dragons is a huge part of this game’s lore. If every time you make a dragon come out and we just kill them just like that, it deteriorates the game’s lore. You may ask why? Well eventually the importance and the threat of a dragon lowers and the lore become less appealing. Also if you keep popping up dragons and killing them, then the game will fall down a copy/paste routin of oh a dragon ok kill him ok now bye. It’s very important for the future of this game that the important elder dragons are never killed. What do I suggest? Weaken them and put them to sleep, allowing for developers and writer to expand on a much richer lore, as well as increase our fear and anger to said elder dragon, and making the dragons a much more important memory for the player base. Killing them and just popping out a new one will diminish the lore, bore the players, and make the story more generic and more difficult to create the new big storyline that everyone wants. I suggest everyone takes this advice very serious because it can become a big decisive factor on the future quality of this amazing game.

Well i dont want them exactly like the HOT maps lol, mainly cause the main tyria maps are also for free players. Rather than flying being the main way to get through the landscapes, i was thinking about regular stuff like bridges, WP, stairs, etc etc. the point is that i wana see cool stuff like going through canyons and mountains…..i want to feel like im exploring something other than a flat landscape. I completely agree that HOT style maps should not be replicated in normal Tyria, it was just an idea so you get the picture….but you didnt get it at all. I just want to see big powerful and eye-catching landscapes…thats all…..I WANT ART! MYSTERY! FANTASY!

The Guild Issue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Adry.7512

Agreed that a guild-searching tool would be a fantastic addition. The activity of members sounds more to me like an issue with the guilds you’re joining, but I think that could be heavily remedied by the addition of a searchable database.
It would be easy to specify what your guild does in an accessible place, in addition you could talk about whether or not being active in guild chat is encouraged, etc. (Some guilds who don’t talk much might be better for shy people, or those without a lot of time to commit.)

Guild messages have been improved but I would like to see more features added to it to make it easier to broadcast events and such. Maybe a “guild schedule” tab could be added?

As for the guild missions, I agree that they’re very simple, but I like the system and think that Anet should continue to pursue creating more diversity within it.

You’re awesome! yea my thoughts exactly.

Those sound like issues with the guilds you’ve joined, rather than the mechanics of guilds in GW2.

What would help is if GW2 provided tools for guilds to recruit or members to search for guilds. At the moment, unless you read the ‘right’ post on reddit|forums|world-specific-website or unless you’re in the right map and the right time, you have no way to connect to new guilds.

LF-Guild/Recruitment tools won’t, of course, guarantee that people will find a good fit; they would increase the chances.

I completely agree.

Well, I was thinking of implying a better guild system, by making then more relevant, maybe adding guild structure, such as divisions. Each division would have its own job and specialization. Being in a guild is not fun. Now ik a lot of you have fun with your guilds, but in reality you usually do the same stuff with the same people….when a guild is suppose to consist of over 250 players. I understand its fun is a small group aspect, but in a larger scale it’s not fun at all. To be honest in my 3+ years of playing this game, I have not met a SINGLE guild that i like/enjoy being with. I never have fun with them, they never help me out, I never hangout with them, i never feel like i even want to be involved cause they dont incorporate their playerbase. Sadly, the best thing to happen to guilds in GW2 is guild housing, but thats it, we have nothing to do as a team. Guild missions are very simple and uninteresting, so let’s not even bother mentioning that. Very few guilds actually successfully manage to involve their community in events/tasks and missions….VERY few. we need a more complex and structured guild system. IDK how many guilds ive left simply because of the fact that its a waste of my time. IDK how many times ive asked a question in guild chat, just to have maybe one-two players respond…after a while. I have better luck asking in map chat, rather than guild chat.

Lol megaservers were implemented in this game a long time ago, but that isn’t the reason why this game has become so fun and diverse in activities. Megaservers were only the beginning to it, since the game was suffering from a serious lack of content at one point. The game is like this because of the systems that developers have implemented in this game in order to create social order and systematic gameplay within our community. The harmonious construct that has been created, is what has made this game really blossom. Personally, i truly appreciate this, and this is what i have been waiting for since the launch of GW2. At the state this game is, is a base where devs can truly build on.

THIS is what MOST mmorpgs lack, but this game has FINALLY achieved it. this community is kicking up since the squad system and commander modifications have started. This game, as of now, is eligible to remain at its top tier rank in the mmo genre. Even when i log on at 1AM, i find a squad doing something interesting and fun to do. This game is at a really good platform, in which the devs can build from.

What do you see when you look at the artwork for Black Citadel? I see multiple platforms and landscapes, NOT just a plain flat landscape like the one in the game. I believe that the developers did a fantastic job with the HOT maps and its multiple landscapes, but what about their old ones? The black citadel’s artwork looks like its suppose to be in some sort of canyon looking area, with huge steeps and such. To me that is beautiful. For the next expac, could a rework of some of the old maps (not all cause thats a lot of work) happen? Just to achieve the original idea, cause i think some of the maps are lacking it. Just bring to life a few ideas that have not been reached.

I bought Guild Wars 2 the day it came out. I loved it, bought the expansion for me and three friends the day it was released. Now I am uninstalling it. I figured it was time to craft a legendary so I went for Kudzu. I got the first and second collections done and ended up spending about 300g. Not to bad was going well had some fun. Then I got to the third collection, I gathered carrots for 6 hours. This is just the first part of the collection, and I still didn’t get what I needed. So I decided to cut my loses and try the mystic forge because there was no way I was gonna grind plants all day for god knows how long. I dropped over 700g into the forge and got nothing, now I have 20g. So I went from 1kg to 20g with nothing to show for it. I liked this game because unlike other MMO’s I didn’t have to grind dungeons for better gear. But it got replaces with grinding gathering nodes and horrible RNG. I’m very disappointed I understand legendaries should be hard to come by, but there has to be a better way then making it super grindy boring as hell and killing the fun of the game.

Listen, I felt the same way when I first gave the Mystic Forge a shot (and the last). I lost over 800gold, the RNG is complete garbage, but the thing is that there are other ways to get every single item, especially without relying on the mystic forge. NEVER in your life use the mystic forge, its complete trash, just farm, get money, and buy the materials.

yes we have battle arenas in guild halls, or w.e you call it, but i meant a battle arena building in every major city….with a portal leading to the same place. then the winner can win some kind of reward in a 2v2 3v3 fight. 1v1 would also be optional but since some classes dont fair too well on their own vs other classes, then the 1v1 shouldnt count, but the option would be highly appreciated. also i dont mean competition at a pro league level, but i meant something more for the community, something more fun or festive….im sure some ideas can pop up.

Did you check your wardrobe to see if the other skin weights are unlocked? If so, then you might just craft another shoulder piece, or use the one you have, and skin it over.

yes, but i was crafting my necro’s light ascended shoulder piece to be nightfury….i would need to craft another ascended shoulder and skin it as nightfury….then i would have an extra heavy class shoulder piece for no reason. its just unnecessary and extremely annoying, plus poor work on the dev’s part for not clarifying the options.

Instead of whining over the price like little kids sit and think for a moment….look what Anet did….just look at this amazing game they made…it’s their 1st Gw2 expansion look how much work they put into the new stuff. Think Guild Halls, new content new playable class…I think HoT is worth more than 50$. I wish people would instead of complaining actually look beyond the cost and realize that if ArenaNet doesn’t earn money from this Expansion there will be no expansion because they wont be able to afford it. Just please stop whining and protesting. Gw2 was voted the best community, lets show that and stop being greedy, yes I understand people who have low income who really want this expansion (like me) but still I love this game and I already love the expansion and if I could I would purchase the 100$ option because it would be a good support for ArenaNet. Please stop the complaining. Ps: I’m not saying you have to throw your money at the screen, but please don’t complain

You’re doing it wrong. Of all the MMO’s this one is the most unique by far. This one makes me feel like I matter more than any other. More importantly it allows me to follow my own path.

Every other game forces you to follow a series of quests and its generally just a bunch of jerk NPC’s handing out jobs left and right to whomever comes along. After you are done with his tasks, you have to talk with the guy next to him and do it all over again.

your right, but my friend, i have 5 lvl80s. i am way over that, i need end content to feel like i can create my own path as i continue to play the game. i need to create a legacy.

yes it is successful cause they did a lot of things right. regardless, there is an undoubtable feeling of emptiness when you play this game that for SOME REASON does not keep the average player consistently playing

I hate to sound repetitive (even more when repetition seems to be your biggest issue), but again, where’s this coming from?

Did you poll every player for this “undoubtable feeling of emptiness” or the consistency of their playing habits?

I’ve asked before on this thread too. I wasn’t going to bring it up again because, as I said, your lack of response is an answer in itself. But then you go and accuse others of not expanding their thoughts:

i simply dont care unless he expands on his thoughts

You also seem to forget that Anet is a business. They’re here to make money. I guarantee that if things aren’t changing, then the money isn’t short. Which doesn’t happen with a player base where the majority feel the way you say they do.

You feel demotivated. As your friends do. That’s a shame. But the game has only grown bigger, and the company more profitable. It’s certainly not because the majority is demotivated.

sounds legit, well obviously i dont have a poll made (nor do i intend on making one) to draw any data from, but w.e.. all im mostly doing is drawing from my own perspective and conversations i have had with people in the chatbox, etc etc. ur right on the fact that what i say seems to sound as if im saying these are actual facts, but nope, just my own thoughts put on text. sorry if it came out that =/. anyways i dont believe i am wrong on the feeling i am describing as many people here have understood the sentiment behind it, but maybe i need to find more pleasure in certain aspects of the game, idk, ill give it more time.

What exactly is it about the HoT expansion that you think will improve the game’s culture? Or make it less repetitive? I’m not sure I’m following.

the expansion will also greatly focus on the pvp aspects of the game, allowing a player like myself to branch off the repetitive cycle and possibly add some of my own flavor into my overall experience. you understand? as in, if i want to focus on pvp, i will do so in my own way, with enough variation to take my path my own way. there is no way for me to create my own path in this game.

Well, okay, but HoT is only adding 1 new sPvP map and 1 new WvW map. We have more variety than that right now in those areas. I’m looking forward to these new maps, too, but I don’t see that they’re overall going to really change the face of sPvP or WvW.

yes your right. my hopes is in the variety that they may add into guilds, like guild housing (which looks amazing). therefore i can branch off within there and follow my own path, even if its within the boundaries of a guild.

guys remember that the problem is a lack of cultural variation!!! the lack of it results in robotic repetitive gameplay. all my hopes are in the expansion, in the PVP and guild aspects of the game are going to get a huge content increase. with guild housing and such, i hope that the cultural aspect of this game will deepen so i dont have to feel like a robot doing repetitive content.

the main idea behind this thread is me and many others disliking the robotic repetitive aspects of this game. culture will (I HOPE) expand, as guild systems become vastly more complex, PVP adopts more variation (1v1, 2v2, etc). yes of course this game has a buncha stuff for u to do….OBVIOUSLY IT DOES lol. that is NOT the problem. the problem is the lack of feeling that goes into these mediocre tasks, hence killing my intrinsic value towards these tasks. my individuality doesnt exist when i play this game due to lack of culture, lack of community, lack of everything that should matter in an MMO. at least single player games get you attached to the story and the characters in the game, this doesnt have any of that, nor has it ever expanded on its culture. having a guild in this game is a joke LOL. which is why i am waiting on the expansion. lol all you people do it repeat obvious things to defend your topic which in reality isnt even what i am talking about, your responses are completely objective and lack any form on critical thinking. as for those who understand the sentiment, thank you and yes i your point.

I tried to read your first post. But it was difficult to follow. But from what I get is that basically you are bored. You feel like a robot doing mindless tasks, and it’s not enjoyable (has intrinsic value). And thus, it’s the culture of the game that causes this.

You say there is no community, no culture.
RPers say hi. WvW players say hi, PvP players say hi. Dungeon tours, world boss tours say hi.

A sense of community comes through communication, and relationships. You join a random guild with a bunch of random players who barely speak to each other, then of course there is no community. The expansion won’t change that, thats something the players themselves need to work out.

Culture. I am not sure what you mean. The player culture, or the world of the game.
Tyria is a vast and varied world, with all sorts of culture, history, and peoples. But it’s not thrown in your face, you have to seek it out.

As far as the memorable characters, thats subjective. I love Tiami, Rox, Logan, Eir, Ogden Stonehealer, and even some of the unnamed priory explorers. Some people say it’s badly written, and cliche. But I enjoy them, and their personalities.

But going back to the loose connection to grind and feeling bored with the game. It’s really only through boredom, or some self imposed “need” to obtain a certain skin, or achievement, or amount of gold, is there the perception of grind. One person sees such things as a nicety, and optional, so it’s a farm. Others see it as a major goal in the game, and must be obtained at any costs, to them its a grind.

your right. regardless i still feel like everybody else when i play this game. just another grey blob walking around doing the same thing everybody else is doing. there is nothing for me to create my own path with, there is no freedom for me to create my own legend.
