GW2 feels cold

This thread makes me weep for the amount of empty defense on something that has so far been indefensible in this game.

There has been hardly any sense of community outside of a good guild since launch, and it’s only been magnified over time.

The game is effectively sterile as another poster put it.

Something big is coming in 2014

Big year brings to mind many thing…Expansion, actual obtainable legendaries and ascended gear for WvW players… New WvW maps… These are all pipe dreams.

I have all kinds of ideas and I’m having hard time because of all the “big updates” in 2013 which have essentially added a dead zone to the game…

Of course something big could go both ways, they could just drop WvW from the game considering the state of neglect it feels most of the time.

Hope you guys do have something big up your sleeves

Just wait a few months. It’ll hit the laurel/honor badge merchant. No need to craft or rush into crafting it.

don’t hold your breath.

They confirmed in the vertical progression thread that more avenues to attain ascended weapons/armor were coming to WvW and other areas of the game.

No breath holding involved, Anet themselves said it was something people wanted and that they were going to make it easier to attain for WvW players.

What they say they’ll do and when they’ll actually do it are entirely different things.
Don’t expect this to come anytime soon because of Anet’s glacial development pace (especially with respect to all things WvW) as well as the fact that they know they’d anger a lot of PvE players if Ascended gear comes too easily too soon.

Well, if the PvE players have a problem with it, I’ll be waiting in EBL without a care in the world

Handling of Ascended Weapons was Atrocious

Bottom line is, if can’t dedicate a good portion of your life into this game, you won’t get the good stuff. But if you cherish your private life, you can always buy gems to get gold to keep up with the lifers. See where this is going? Or you can just quit.

And what is YOUR definition of “a good portion of your life” exactly? Cause that varies person to person.

I have a part time job and go to school full time. I did my 400-500 weaponsmithing during christmas break from school. Guess how long it took? 4 days of working on it for maybe…MAYBE 2 hours a day. (and by “working on it” I mean I casually did dungeons, salvaged everything that wasn’t exotic, and if it was, determined if I could get more out of it using a black lion kit, or selling it and buying mats with the gold.

So in total, it took maybe 8 hours of game time going through dungeons, which I don’t consider “hard” or even “working” cause they were enjoyable.

8 Hours of game time, doing something enjoyable to get a better weapon. =/= A good portion of my life.

You are playing the game wrong, that’s all there is to it. Games are supposed to be FUN. If you can’t enjoy yourself doing content while saving up for goals you want to attain, guess what? DO-NOT-PLAY.

It’s not a problem of game design, It’s a problem with your expectations. Everything in this world is not free, gimmie gimmie right now or else. Good things take patience, and that’s part of the reward for many people. The sense of fulfillment when you attain something you “worked for”. However, as soon as you start thinking about your game as a “job” that’s when you need to really reconsider if your having any fun to begin with. Cause if you can’t find enjoyment in the journey, your going to feel just as empty and hallow if you HAD the final reward you wanted, because then, you have nothing else to go for, no purpose.

  • Ultimately, the purpose IS enjoying the journey, not attaining any goal.*

If you understood human psychology and the principles of motivation, you would see that reaching a goal simply leads to complacency -> and then boredom. Which just drives you to seek a new goal (to alleviate that boredom)…and the cycle continues.

The only way to escape it, is to realize you can’t….and stop trying to. Stop fighting it. Surrender. Enjoy the now, don’t chase after the future, and don’t look to the past. If what your doing isn’t fun, simply move on to what is. You have the power to control your emotional state, if you seek happiness, go get it. Don’t complain, don’t try and change what you have no control over, change what you do have control over.

Alright dude, this isn’t community college, you can let the psyche stuff go :p One man’s grind is another man’s journey.

It’s just silly to try to tell someone to think like you do. You may as well be telling them to walk to the moon. Ain’t gonna happen.

Decline of the social element

Aeonblade.8709

The game does not change, to experience true community you will have to play one of the older non LFG queue based games. The days of working to get something through fun activities is gone in the new age of MMOs. Now it’s all about hack and slash, broken lore, cash grabs, faster, quicker, now, give me.

Epic quests in EQ were fun because it was just that. An Epic Quest. There is nothing epic at any point about grinding for a legendary in this game. Especially when you can just buy one off the TP.

With the advent of F2P MMORPG’s, the industry has turned from releasing good, solid content in a timely manner, to piecemeal updates, usually for a price in the in game cash shop, as quickly as possible. Future development is hindered by how they did last month in the cash shop, with goals constantly changing based on a fluctuating cash flow.

As long as F2P and B2P remains the hip new fad in the genre, content will continue to be bland, rushed, and halfway thought out as they attempt to keep cash flow within reasonable fluctuations by introducing content that really isn’t content even though it’s advertised as such. I.E. New outfits etc.

No, I have a feeling we will be waiting for EQN or ESO for the next great adventure that is truly just that, an adventure. Not an adventure that “may or may not happen it depends on how well the cash shop did the last 6 month” type deal. You get what you pay for, and the resurgence of P2P MMO’s speaks volumes about the problem with F2P Cash Grab Grinders.

I’m not referring to GW2 specifically btw, but the genre as a whole. I love this game, but it has it’s problems, and most games out there have even more issues than GW2 does.

For the low low price of $200 a legendary can be yours today! I wonder how people feel who actually worked for it knowing that a standard 40 hour work week is more than enough to pay off 6 months of grinding in GW2.

This is why we can’t have nice things!

GW1 Nostalgia -- Why not just PLAY GW1?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

This.

So GW1 wasn’t actually good enough to stand on its own then, and lost the appeal when they no longer developed new stuff for it?
Wouldn’t that suggest that the game wasn’t as superior as people want to suggest?
I mean, I can still play games that haven’t seen development for 10 years without much trouble, but apparently you guys, who want GW2 to be GW1 was better graphics, can’t play GW1 due to it not having active development.

So people are supposed to enjoy the same content forever? They’re not supposed to want more because they actually enjoy the setting. A game’s quality isn’t invalidated because people want new content in it – if anything it speaks to the quality and legacy of the existing content that they want it in the same flavour. It’s nice that you can still play a game and not expect or want new content. Some of us actually wanted Guild Wars 1 to continue. At least its additions were permanent. At least we can revisit those additions at anytime.

Enjoying the same content for a year and a half with GW2 is different somehow from enjoying the content on GW1 for extended periods of time?

It’s not like they have added anything tangible to the game permanently, in all aspects the game really has changed very little since release.

I still go back and play EQ all the time. Same zones. Same alts. Same everything, for 14 years. I haven’t seen the past 4 expansions worth of raids, because I’m still in the old content. Just because a game is no longer developing new content does not mean the old is automatically no fun anymore.

Either way, I feel like GW1 development should of continued till they shut down the servers. It makes no sense to not touch the game at all.

Guild Wars 2 was the first MMO I played that I could move around while casting. I don’t think I can go ever go back.

(I don’t know if GW2 is the first to do it, but just the first I experienced.)

It’s a move most games are making these days. Most abilities in Rift and WoW can be cast on the move now as well, I look for that trend to continue in most future game releases. GW2 definitely did it the best so far though.

Aeonblade.8709

I wish I had never played GW1 and then I could enjoy it from the start! But, I put well over 10,000 hours into GW1 — it’s played out. I didn’t (and don’t) expect GW2 to be the same as GW1. although I had believed the developers would keep the same philosophies in place.

Sometimes I’m also nostalgic about Baldurs Gate, Arcanum, heck even Gabriel Knight and Kings Quest… But I’m not going to leave GW2 to go back and play them simply because I enjoyed them, a lot, at the time they were popular.

Wow…Gabriel Knight and Kings Quest…that really does bring me back /nostalgia. To be perfectly fair, I only played GW1 at release, and even though only sank about 200 hours into the game. I thought it was great, but it never hooked me the way other MMOs did.

I think Anet struck a good balance and widened the player base exponentially, but at the same time I can see how GW1 hardcores are upset, because this really is a completely different game. Anyone who has played GW1 knows that.

Some stuff GW1 did better, some stuff GW2 does better, but either way what we each view as “better” is entirely subjective to begin with. If you measure it from a completely logical business standpoint, GW2 has been a massive success and a successful continuation of the series.

Things they did right IMO

  • Heart based quest system
  • Graphics, Environment, World Design
  • Crafting materials harvested on a per person basis
  • Gear power curve
  • Unique classes with some ideas I haven’t seen before from an MMO
  • No downtime. That was a good one the above poster thought of. Food being for stat bonuses only was a good change.

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

We traded trinity for singularity. That’s all we did. Nothing extra was added to make up for the loss either.

I have yet to find someone that can tell me the difference between requiring 1 tank 1 healer and 1-3 dps and requiring 4 warriors and a Mesmer. There is no difference, just less reliance on each other and less strategy for the sake of quicker queues and quicker runs.

Thus why I have never bothered with dungeons in this game beyond the first 1 or 2 I did. It’s the same “trinity” system we always had, just even more broken.

In trinity play, tank-heal-3 dps is the standard. The only variation is in what classes and builds produce the best DPS. Group defenses are all either self-only on the tank, or are heals administered by the healer. Buffs are mostly self-only, with the rare buff-others on very long CD. Everyone plays a singular role.

In GW2 play, different professions provide different buffs, debuffs and defenses, as well as the ability to heal themselves, and potentially others. 4 warriors and 1 mesmer is passe. The elite meta has moved on to include other classes, precisely because they provide either offensive or defensive buffs. Everyone plays different roles depending on the encounter.

In a trinity set-up, 3 out of 5 people are doing most of the killing. In a GW2 setup, all 5 can do all of the killing. That’s the biggest difference. The second biggest difference is that the trinity game dungeon encounters are designed around the trinity mechanic. GW2 dungeons, unfortunately, were designed around the idea that all group compositions can complete the dungeon — with the side-effect that players who use the teamwork mechanics have a much easier and faster run. The third biggest difference is that in GW2 all 5 spots are effected by changes in the meta, whereas in trinity play, it’s almost always only the DPS that faces such shifts.

I was mostly being sarcastic, but this may help out someone else newer to the game. Good post!

War Hamm/bow viable build?

in WvW

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

Other classes do ranged far better so why keep a warrior at a distance when they will always be out gunned there?

Your are only changing to bow if they 1) they start runing and kite you, so you can damaged them while your hammer skill recharge and 2) The bow has a lot of aoe and a lot of conditions so you are only using that to apply those and than switch to hammer to continue the pressure

Yeah gs has more mobility but who the hell is stupid enough to stand for 100b? Well maybe they are in wvw i don’t know i am only r41 in spvp and this 100b thing with gs like i said they have to be stupid to eat that.(are they? )

If people don’t stand in 100b in sPvP, what makes you think they are going to stand in a circle from your longbow with 1000x more space to run around in? Honest question.

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

Pretty much! Here’s how it’s usually balanced:

A DPS class has low survivability, high damage, and high potential to cause a lot of aggro very fast. They can “aggro spike” as much as they can damage spike. They’re dangerous, and enemies know it. In PvP, you will NOT let that Rogue, Warlock, or whatever run amok of your team. That’s why they’re so squishy: because letting something so powerful also be so durable is just not balanced (and NOT FUN TO KILL AT ALL, as GW2’s dungeon bosses gladly show us). In PvE it’s the same way… except this is where the Tank comes in.

A “Tank” class is a class that has medium-to-high survivability, medium-to-low damage, and a high, consistent rate of generating aggro due to having skills that do nothing BUT that. They’re the ones meant to stack Vitality, Toughness, etc. because it works best on them. They are the reason your squishy butt hasn’t been pulverized yet by the enemy mobs while you continually pelt fireballs and wonder why they’re still attacking the Tank. Thank Your Tank, darnit. Medium entry point, medium-to-high skill ceiling. But, you wonder, how do you keep that tank alive if he’s taking the brunt of who knows how many conditions, afflictions, hexes, etc.? Say hello to your Healer.

A “Healer” (I prefer “Utility”) class is one that does just that: they heal, primarily keeping the Tank and the DPSs alive, and strip any bad things placed on either one. They’re the reason why, even when your squishy butt IS pulverized, you can get right back up and into the fray again. They have VERY low survivability, damage in various ranges as it’s become popular that healers can now damage stuff, and medium-to-high aggro. potential. If the healer is focused on healing, then once there is aggro on them, there is nothing they can do; they MUST rely on either the Tank to draw aggro back to them or the DPSs to a) burst them down ASAP or b) try to pull the enemies away from the healer. Again, if the DPSs die, the Healer can get them patched up again quick. If the Healer dies, welcome to SOL Town, population: you. Low entry point, high skill ceiling, lots and lots of pressure.

So there you go. That is the Holy Trinity, defined in a way that someone who knows the rudimentary basics of an MMO can understand. Tl;dr, it helps balance classes around three key factors:

1. How annoying someone is to an enemy mob
2. How much punishment can they take
3. How powerful they are

Of course, this is based around a system where aggro actually exists and can be commonly defined and broken down into numbers. When it doesn’t, this system naturally falls apart.

So then, my opinion on the trinity? Of COURSE the trinity has problems! Things like a high supply of DPSs versus the high demand for healers and tanks, the dilemma of “if the Healer falls, we’re all boned,” the sheer reluctance of people playing healers or tanks compared to DPSs (again adding to the problem of low healer/tank supply but high demand), and so on. But there’s no way to fix this concretely because you have to scrap everything you’ve learned about class interaction in order to make a new system, and this system has been around for almost as long as MMOs requiring party/group efforts have.

ANet didn’t think this through, only (shoddily) hacking off the Tank and Healer branches and left DPS alive bleeding with stumps. In trying to create a game without a trinity, they simply hyper-enforced one branch of it. Meanwhile, their past success has literally done their dream goal of GW2 but better, not because it enforces the trinity, but because it encourages creativity and experimentation of combining DPS, Tank, and Healer. Monks didn’t HAVE to be vulnerable when they were healing. Tanks didn’t HAVE to do mediocre damage. DPSs weren’t stuck to the same cookie-cutter builds.

You can work AROUND the Trinity. For example, SMT: IMAGINE has the Tank and Healer be the player’s pet, which everyone has due to what the series is. And there’s PLENTY of variety in what kind of tank or healer you want. But you can’t get rid of it. Because, unless you have another system, what will the PC do?!

This post perfectly describes why the Trinity exists and why you can’t just remove it from the genre and expect the game to succeed.

Well posted, +1

My opinion about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

The criticism seems to be “its not like WoW” in the way that each class is “very tailored to a specific function”. Thats because its not and it shouldn’t be, there are plenty of WoW clones but there aren’t other games quite like Guild Wars 2. It is a game for players that are tired of the holy trinity, like myself.

It is a game that was designed to be different. Coming here and saying its bad and you shouldn’t have bought it is like being displeased that an apple doesn’t taste like an orange, and making statements that it should be more like an orange. At that point you buy an orange not an apple.

I think more of the point is, through supposedly giving players more choice with their character, they effectively limited that choice completely to 1 role, with support being really the only viable alternative, and then it’s not viable in over half the game still.

I disagree, there are many roles you can play outside of pure DPS that you can do. You have only played to level 70 and have experienced none of the end game content to find it reasonable that you’ve tried everything a guardian has to offer.

Will it be as specified as you want it to where you don’t have to worry about things like doing damage or taking damage? Probably not, because this games purpose was to do away with that so people are not standing around spamming “GLF hero” tank, dps, ect ect. It is in the games intent that classes are not specialized.

I’ve been 80 since May. I’m not the OP, just trying to convey his frustrations with the lack of role choice in this game. Or at least I think that’s what he was getting at.

How much gold do you have?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aeonblade.8709

Just a thought – I find it ironic when people say “The TP is bad because people make so much more money there than just playing the game the ‘way it was meant to be played’”. It would be like if you worked at McDonalds for minimum wage. One day a construction worker comes in for lunch, and through conversation you find out he makes 3x what you do per day without needing a higher education. They have openings, he says! Currently hiring! But you just think about what a pain it would be to have to learn something new, to change your routine, so you just say “Thanks but no thanks… oh and I also think the Government should outlaw people from making so much since I can’t either”. The construction guy just shakes his head and walks back to his much more lucrative employment, which the fast food worker could have been a part of, but couldn’t be bothered to learn.

That is not the reason at all most people don’t flip the TP. It has nothing to do with learning something new and everything to do with hating staring at the TP screen for hours at a time. That’s not what I bought, I bought Guild Wars 2. I think.

A more accurate description would be a McDonald’s worker that loves his job, and a construction worker saying well if you ever want to make more money, you can do this job. But wait, the McDonald’s worker hates construction work, and would rather do something he enjoyed with his time. So he continues flipping burgers because he enjoys it even though he knows he has the ability to make 3 times the money.

Right, and I actually agree. The follow up though is that the McDonalds worker doesn’t enjoy having hand-me-down everything. Misses the new flashy toys when they’re released. Feels angst during Xmas as all their friends get new fun toys and they are stuck with the same old Nintendo 2DS from last year. I get that people don’t enjoy playing the TP. I don’t enjoy playing the TP as I do the rest of GW2. I do, however, love my 2.8 legendary weapons, best of everything, and unlimited access to anything I want in-game or on the gem store at any minute of the day. I choose to trade 1 hour a day doing something that isn’t the pure ‘reason I bought the game’ to allow me unlimited access in any capacity to any other part of the game. If that makes sense.

It does make sense, I just wish I had the free time to sacrifice an hour at the TP I guess.

How much gold do you have?

That’s great and all for people who enjoy spreadsheets and math, I’m glad it’s there for people to make money if they want.

I just would rather…play the game to earn money. I wish they would acknowledge that group of people sometimes

Oh they have! Seriously, speedclearing dungeons or just playing in general can net lots of money as well. Not sure if you were around before there was gold on completion of dungeons. Also, even if someone doesn’t want to get deep into maximizing profit on the TP, ascended crafting has caused a rise in price on all goods. Anything found adventuring can be sold for an amount much higher than say, a year ago.

Speedclearing dungeons? See this is what I’m talking about. The game was supposed to focus on open world dynamic combat. I can speed clear dungeons twice as challenging and twice as fun in a trinity game. They need to update the reward structure for those of us who don’t have a desire to speedclear dungeons or flip the tp. I have no desire to run an instanced dungeon, in any game, ever again after WoW and Rift :p Especially since Rift was pretty much the pinnacle of dungeon design.

I guess I just feel like all areas of the game should yield equal rewards for time spent in them. Some nights I’m lucky to break even in WvW, which is why other nights I’ll have to farm just to have gold for consumables. Maybe I just need to change this game into a job as other MMORPG’s became for me, because playing your own way really doesn’t work if every mode of play has a different reward structure.

Good post though, made me think some more on it.

War Hamm/bow viable build?

in WvW

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

wvw is not spvp. combustive shot (longbow burst skill) is effective in spvp because it covers the entire capture point. in small scale engagements in wvw, mobility is king. hammer/bow isn’t very mobile at all. you can’t run away when the situation isn’t in your favor. you can stand your ground and fight them off for a long time but you will go down.

But what is the point of having 2 melee weapons, just so you can run away? also combustive shot can be shot very easy once they start to melee you or when you do bow 5 skill wich roots them for 3 sec, i mean i will probabyl use sword+horn but once i sport enemy i will change them for the bow , if it works so well in spvp why wouldn’t it work for wvw, yes they can run but they can run in spvp also.

Try it. No seriously, give the build a genuine shot at 80 in WvW, then come back here and tell us how it goes.

How much gold do you have?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aeonblade.8709

Question to people with 500+ gold:

Wtf are you doing to get that much gold? Champ farming?

My account has about 600 hours of /played. 400+ of those have been spent leveling 3 toons to 80 and equipping ascended gear (trinkets) for them. The remaining 200ish hours I have spent studying patch notes and their impact on markets, finding trade lines I wanted to work with and markets to learn in and out, and played the TP game. I have Quip, Incinerator, T3 armor, and will make my Dreamer this weekend once I can get a kitten buy order to fill for The Lover. The BEST way to make money in this game is learning how gold/mat inflation work and which patches will impact varying investment opportunities. I feel like garbage spending an hour doing the FGS champ-train, making 8g when I could be making 80.

I made a decent income from playing the auction house in WoW, but in GW2, there seems to be a very very very narrow of margin at best for a very small number of items. Patches can shake things up…but even then, I’ve found a lot of trends to be counter-intuitive to the way the market responded with things in WoW. The crafting system in GW2 also pretty much kills any chance of crafting for a profit.

It’s not crafting that makes a profit. It’s raw materials.

The richest people in the game, and heck, even the general richer person with Golden title or 4-digit gold…they know how to use the Trading Post.

Some more than others, but in a global market where just about anything can be bought, sold, flipped, scammed, snatched, (pick a verb) for in-game currency…“sitting” on your gold (however low it may be) is going to keep it at a static value.

You’ve probably seen some of the posters referring to “liquid assets.” They have money in cloth, wood, metal, ectos, or whatever markets they’re investing in.

The GW 2 Trading Post is the closest to any actual Stock Market or Global shares in the Real World that I have ever seen in an MMO.

Yes, it can be intimidating, but plenty of players have written guides on how to play the TP, where to invest, and how to monitor trends throughout the week (people buy more on weekends, causing price drops in some markets and price hikes in others). Also, noticing seasonal trends (holidays, or upcoming LS events/requirements) and being quick on the draw with those trends can net very large profit gains.

Bottom line, don’t be afraid to dive in! The trading post is there for everyone to benefit!

That’s great and all for people who enjoy spreadsheets and math, I’m glad it’s there for people to make money if they want.

I just would rather…play the game to earn money. I wish they would acknowledge that group of people sometimes

[Merged]1year post launch. How Anet feel on Trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

We traded trinity for singularity. That’s all we did. Nothing extra was added to make up for the loss either.

I have yet to find someone that can tell me the difference between requiring 1 tank 1 healer and 1-3 dps and requiring 4 warriors and a Mesmer. There is no difference, just less reliance on each other and less strategy for the sake of quicker queues and quicker runs.

Thus why I have never bothered with dungeons in this game beyond the first 1 or 2 I did. It’s the same “trinity” system we always had, just even more broken.

Fitting penalties for committing this criminal act:

1. Guild influence and upgrade wipes, angering their leader and having him show up at their front doors with a hatchet

2. An angel loses its wings

3. Precision airstrikes

4. Permabanned from the internet

5. Banishment to the moon, life support included if any of the world’s governments will donate money

6. Perma-banishment from Guild Wars 2 with all the involved party’s collective wealth transferred to the victim(s)

7. A dinner date with Scarlet

8. Trahearne

9. Agents who follow them around and bring crying babies to every theater they visit

10. An arrow in the knee

7 8 and 9 are just terrible. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemies.

Well this was a buzzkill. I just started playing GW2, and even though I’m late to the party, I’m loving it! How can people hate on it this much? I pretty much despise WoW so I’m not sure how people are saying they might go back to WoW, the least interactive, least immersive, most gear based, calculator combat ever invented. The combat, the questing system, are all far better here in my rookie humble opinion.
I’ll admit that I never really got into GW1, but from my limited experience with it, it was entirely instanced right? No open world filled with other players, if you left town at all it was an instance. Anyways, I like this much better.

It’s the “New Girlfriend” situation. Everything is great, you guys love each other, the first 6 months are wonderful. Then she starts nagging you, telling you to do this this and this or you’ll never amount to anything or earn anything. And you think, well I love her, but kitten , I can’t put up with this forever! Then you hang around for extended amounts of time hoping “she can change, I know she can.”

Most players are in the second phase of the new relationship on the forums, but don’t let it get you down. If you are enjoying the game, that is what’s important

CDI- Character Progression-Horizontal

in CDI

Aeonblade.8709

My top 3 ideas are :

  • Progressive Horizontal Skillset- Something that lets us change the graphics/colors/effects of our abilities through completing fun and interesting challenges. Example: Changing Guardian skills from blue/wavy effects to red/spikey effects on swing/ability use.
  • New Weapons/Armor skins – The game is in need of an update here with non cash shop skins. The choice hasn’t changed hardly at all since release, we need at least 20-30 new armor skins for each type and a lot of new weapon skins as well. Whenever you see the same outfit everywhere in LA, it’s time to add new good ones
  • Unlocked Weapon Skills/ Other Skills – I think we should be able to choose what skills we want on our hotbar. There is no reason to restrict us to the same 5 buttons for a weapon type. True skill and weapon skill free choice would go a long way in making the game more enjoyable.

To expound upon this, let us choose which stats we want to get bonuses to with our trait points as well, let us select from a pool of say 4 stats instead of 2, and pick the 2 that best matches our character. That way, Guardians don’t have to get useless condition damage to get precision, etc.

Time Gating - Problem Solved!

Aeonblade.8709

I wish search in this forum would work, took me a while to find: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Vertical/3384259

Um. The pro’s they listed are almost all cons. Especially in this game. It pushes hardcore and casual players further apart because if you miss a day as a casual player, that day is gone forever. It’s not like Rift where you can accrue 7 days worth of dailies. That would actually be a Pro then. In it’s current forum, the time gating in GW2 is an active barrier between hardcore and casual.

The only one that is even remotely true is bringing people together for 30 minutes once a week to do guild missions. That’s some real socializing, right there, all 30 minutes of it.

Time gating has it’s place, but GW2 has the most poorly conceived time gates I have seen in years. Reading that whole post actually makes me cringe at how badly the entire system is designed and I really can’t see how it can be defended in it’s current form.

I do like GW2 and I do wish they introduced something amazing… But when things like this come out ( notice it’s only some raw alpha footage ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh_73qvfI8Y, it’s gonna be tough… And when I say “tough”, they’re gonna do something better than introducing Scarlet-like stories…:/

That is extremely good gameplay footage for Everquest Next considering that is Alpha or pre Alpha gameplay, by the time it launches it will most likely improve drastically.
The launch of Landmark will speed up the development of Next the more players are in it building things.
I just really hope GW2 can announce/release an expansion in 2014 or I’m not sure how the living story releases can compete with the new games releasing.

They cannot compete, which is why I expect an expac announcement in the next 1-2 months. Otherwise, I just don’t see this game going anywhere fast. The development pace as been snail speed for a year and a half, I honestly believe at this point they have a mostly done expansion already ready, and this is a marketing ploy of some kind. Nothing makes sense otherwise. Where did the development go? You can’t tell me the entire team works weeks to bring us 2-3 hours of temporary content…

I’m fairly confident Anet has an expansion waiting for damage control, but I have no proof of course. I hope they do, I’m rooting for you guys and gals

While I like the idea of making other champions in other zones actually rewarding, I do not support any idea that takes something away from a game because a select few do not like it.

Leave champion trains, and improve rewards from unused zones to the point where people have a choice of following the train, or striking out to other areas for different rewards.

Reward disparity is the entire cause of Champ Trains. Make the rest of the game as rewarding, and they will disappear in time. Forcing them away is just another PR blunder for Anet, who is already in the doghouse with most of the MMO community lately after the Fractal debacle.

Try WvW, you are pretty much forced to build defensively unless you like dying.

As far as PvP progression goes…well…They were far to focused on making it an eSport to worry about rewarding people for time spent imo. It hurt the focus of PvP.

I, on the other hand, can’t wait to see how the living story will end. Pretty sure Anet will at last reveal what Scarlet really wants and everything is gonna go boom. There was some speculation that “rocking tyria to its very core” means Primordius may surface.

Also, account bound WvW exp and Edge of the Mists. Holy hell, I’m gonna pull all nighters because of those. And Arenas are in testing. Can’t wait I say!

PS I want dwarves as a playable race but that will never, ever happen. T_T

Guess what, if somebody starts a thread with a complain there will always be people showing up to defend the game. That’s how a discussion works.

People don’t grasp the concept that other people can think differently from themselves. It’s a curse of modern society and the “it’s your life, do whatever you want, others don’t really matter!” generation.

AP Needs to be private

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

AP has absolutely nothing to do with player skill. Anyone who thinks it does is just trying to lord themselves over other players. It’s some sort of syndrome or something I’m sure, but I don’t know the name of it.

Generally, I avoid people with really high AP, as they usually have an attitude, think they are better than everyone else, and play at a reduced level from normal people because they are busy worrying about AP to begin with.

Then again I’m a WvW player, I don’t really care how many LS updates and mind numbing daily quests you have done to inflate your insignificant number.

Are there good and kind high AP players out there? Absolutely! But they are the exception, not the norm from my personal experience. To each their own, I think we should all play our own way anyway, and worry about what we feel is important rather than others.

Why are you forcing us to craft?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aeonblade.8709

Aeonblade.8709

Crafting in GW2 is the second biggest disappointment in GW2. Uninspired, boring, predictable. It is set up so difficult, that figuring it out by yourself as a newbie, you will waste tons of ressources. But if you understand the system behind it (or just use a guide), it is the same simple scheme put over every level of every profession.

In other words, it is stupid to spend time on it, and in the end, the only level a profession is worth something is the max level, as they made ascended items account bound (seriously, crafting stuff for yourself is the goal of crafting professions?). So everyone has to level professions for themselves, or they will be left behind – awesome game design, should give a reward. That’s how crafting works in reality, all those expensive clothes are only worn by the designer themselves too after all.

The biggest disappointment though was, wait for it, ascended items.

Now the core progression of the game combines the two biggest failures of GW2. Thank god for the steam holiday sale!

Don’t agree with the entire post, but I really do agree with the crafting bit. Never have I seen a more boring and annoying crafting system than is in this game. I don’t care about switching professions on the fly, I don’t care about discovering recipes that were discovered by others the first week the game came out. If I wanted to craft, I’d want to just craft, not spend hours scouring the world and the TP for those elusive mats that have a .02% chance to drop. That’s not adventurous, that’s tedious.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As long as F2P and B2P are the new hip fad, expect every game released under that payment method to be an average grinder. Has been proved time and time again since F2P became a thing.

That being said, this game at least somewhat gives you an option on whether or not to farm. But if you don’t get sucked into the farming loop the game gets old in a few short months. It’s a real conundrum they have going on, and I hope they figure out a way to bring the fun back to killing monsters, rather than forcing us to farm champion trains if we ever want to crawl out of the slums that is the GW2 economy currently.

Personally, I don’t feel like this game is THE grindiest game out there, but it’s near the top, and when all my RL friends leave because of “the grind” it says something about the game, whether the grind is imagined or real.
