I did not realize that was Windall in the conversations since they only showed researcher as the speaker. I have to assume he’s the one going to take a peek at Taimi’s stuff.

He definitely looks like he is eavesdropping while lying there……

I went through that bit again and Windall is identified as a speaker while you are eavesdropping.

Lol, I finally saw the hammer today – luckily I dodged before it got me. I agree the ranged attacks are way, way out there.

I did get all the aerial skills but the 1 and 2 were useless to me as you get killed long before you can target anything much less figure out where it was coming from. Targeting while moving was very hard for me. Half the time I was past what I wanted to hit before I could get a bead on it. I actually made a hit once and they took me right down immediately. I assume I should have used skills 4 and/or 5 right after. Definitely something that needs practice.

Skills 4 and 5 were pretty good as far as getting out of the way or dodging while flying. I was able to avoid a lot of stuff as well as closing and redeploying the glider helped but not when there was a lot of stuff thrown at me. Stealthing does nothing even if you do it before you think you are in range. Also there are enough enemies that if one doesn’t see you all the others do….

I wish we had a practice area to work on those skills. Possibly an area in Heart of the Mists could be dedicated for that.

I got a bad feeling we may need these skills later…….

The only way I kept Rytlock alive was to stay near him the whole fight. He definitely died way too easy for the hero he is suppose to be.

I had issues with the golems since the NPCs ganged up on the first one and would not leave that one. I figured out the mechanics on the second golem (cross the beam!) and had to kill it by myself and then go back to get the first golem.

I would to see the NPCs be a bit more durable or at least follow you to what you are attacking.

Portal to Bloodstone Fen

What OP said. I understand the story reasons but honestly, once it is opened on one character, alts should have access. I don’t want to replay the story or squander a 1000 currency (in my case, 10 times) to portal into a new zone.

The item is permanent and account bound. You only have to buy it once then use it on all your alts to get to the first waypoint.

I think this is a good thing to have if you have a lot of farming alts you might want to bring in. Not such a good bargain if you only have a few because once you get your alts in you have something that just sits in your inventory taking up space. Personally I will save that 1k magic for the home node…

I found him in Rata Novus. He walks by as you are talking to Canach and General Almorra just before you head out to Bloodstone Fen. Windall walks by and lays down to sleep on one of the nearby mats. Its the same concept as previously…you have to get a connection to the bloodstone and get the boss to stand in the connection for a couple seconds to drop the shield…..

I watched the video, tried and found you must use that Asura skill when you get connected. Or the line would not be long enough.

Seriously, such mechanic should not appear in a single player story content, and you got no repair inside the instance, had to start all over if you exit.

personally the mechanic would have been a whole heck of a lot better if it was easier to figure out, maybe have the NPCs drop hints or flat out tell you to “get her in the magic line”

I agree crossing the beam with the NPCs was not explained well. I did figure it out at the golems. For while I and the other NPCs were fighting the first golem and I was getting frustrated because I kept hitting the bloodstone and getting the connection but could not figure out why the shield wasn’t affected.

Eventually I broke off and went beyond the first golem to the second one and that is when I got the second beam accidentally over the second golem which broke the shield and it was aha! Unfortunately all the other NPCs were engaged with the first shielded golem so I had to take the second down by myself. After that getting the first one was easy and I got the final battles a lot easier understanding that.

It might have been better to show an NPC grabbing the beam and showing us what needed to be done before getting there.

Please remove the Aetherblade JP from Diving

Aerinndis.2730

I only got it with the help of a mesmer. I couldn’t get very far into it even using my engineer with the jump shot. I’m still trying to figure out how mesmers are able to port so far. One had a portal way outside the cavern then ported a number of us to the dive point then the end of the puzzle.

Even though I got it with help I would like to see it removed or moved elsewhere because not everyone has the dexterity to do jumping puzzles. Besides it’s supposed to be a dive point achievement not a jumping puzzle achievement.

I’ve always thought that the slayer achievement should have a mastery point and title attached to it because that takes forever to finish. Even level 500 crafting should have mastery points attached.

I was never able to do this jp and had to rely on the kindness of mesmers to get the puzzle done and the diving part as well. This puzzle was definitely beyond my capabilities also lag heavily impacts this puzzle and the jumps which pretty much made it impossible for me to do without help. I had the Dive Master before they added this one and it was always a sore point to me that those who had done all the diving achieves before this were suddenly put in the position of not having finished it. This particular puzzle should have been put in a special category of it’s own since it was also tied to the living story.

Thirst Slayer is another sore point with me in that Festive Imbiber achieve gets a title for only 10k drinks while Thirst Slayer at 100k gets no title. Thirst Slayer should at least get a mastery point for that achieve…

I agree creature slaying should get at least a title and/or mastery point for finishing. That one is difficult to finish because of the Giant Slaying. Though I would like to see them add some other things to slay as well as our explorations of Tyria expand.

Thanks a lot for the reactivity!

Just because I’m picky, I’d point out 2 things though:

- Some ley-line thingies still seem to disappear when picked by another character (need to double check this one – it could simply be some sort of time out) – not a big deal since there are tons of them anyways.

- The hand icon above the ley-line thingies doesn’t always disappear when picked.

But of course, that’s really minor, and the events are much more enjoyable now (they were nightmarish before). Cheers!

I noticed the same but it didn’t really bother me. Event is definitely more enjoyable now. It was a lot more fun trying to keep the inquest from getting any crystals after I finished my achieve. I wonder if there could be an bonus reward added if we can manage to keep them from getting any of the ley line energy. That would give incentive for folk to come and actively defend.

Heading out for the evening but I want to toss in my agreement with the criticisms. This design promotes letting others fight the inquest while you hover over likely ley spawn spots and scoop them up as fast as you can to avoid them being ninja’d. It might settle down as more and more people get their 60 turn ins (30 each to Consortium and Priory) and step aside to let others get it. Or it may become a griefer’s paradise as they zip over to the spawns to nab them even once they’ve done the achieve.

Regardless, a hotfix seems in order if at all feasible. Please either make them shared nodes or toss out a whole lot more of them for gathering. If the event ends when enough are gathered, I can see that making the event too short, but maybe something can be fixed there as well?

I have to assume the general idea was cooperativeness where some fight the inquest so that others can gather but I cannot see it succeeding as folk who complete the achieve most likely will not come back to assist those who have yet to get their achieve and the rest are left in a grab free for all. Then you will have some griefers who will find this event right up their alley denying others. It might be better to toss out more and have a event limit to what you can turn in for each event – say 6. Alternatively if you kill a collector that has gotten a ley line you take it in return. It would be more fun to me than it is now.

*edit
Just tried the event again. Everyone was trying to get the ley line stuff, npcs were downed and leyline stuff on top of them so trying to pick anything up had you constantly rezzing npcs instead and people dying around because no one is really defending and everyone getting hammered by the inquest as they tried to pick up orbs….. Of course it failed.

I have never made it on the tilted part of the shroom though I have seen folks do it and seemingly easily enough. Jumping on the stem below is the best way though you have to judge that jump carefully. It looks as though you cannot get up on top but you can very easily once you are there. If you fall you can glide (if you have that) down to a portion of the vine and work your way back up again. For me that was the worst part of the whole puzzle. If you are careful about clearing out mobs and mortars as you go and take your time it is doable.

This jumping puzzle was one I put off until nearly last for jumping puzzle completion because of that danged tilted shroom but after watching the videos to see where to position myself for the jump and where to try to land I got it.

Change AFK farming spot in Mount Maelstrom

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

AFK farmers are also denying bags to the legitimate mat farmers who actually go around the map and killing what they need to for the bags. Where these people camp is one less area that is farmable for the rest of us. Plus if there are any events in the immediate area the event can ramp up making an event that can be usually be soloed nearly impossible to do.

Every map has a reasonably safe area if one would need to leave for a bit to take care of real life issues that come up.

Please, a clear statement re: AFK farming.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I don’t particularly approve of AFK farming, but the ones that really raise my ire are the ones that camp out at event spawns and thus scale it up (sometimes majorly so) and making it far more difficult for the genuine players.

One good example is in Dry Top. There’s usually a bunch of AFK farmers sitting in the middle of the plain where the Inquest and Zephyrites compete for crystals. By doing this, they are usually able to get some credit for the following 3 events:

1. Collect crystals for the Zephyrites
2. Escort Haze
3. Kill the Champion Dust Twister, if it happens to wander over in their direction

They not only get loot for this (including the chance for Onyx and Charged Lodestones from Dust Mites), but also Geodes (which I imagine is what they’re really after). But again, depending on how many of them there are, they can end up scaling the mobs in this area by 3 or 4 levels and into Veterans or Elites, making it much harder for the real players to deal with them.

Ditto about the afk farmers ramping up events. Mount Maelstrom has the necros and minions at the Evisomancer’s Resort just outside of New Skrittstead. There is a defense event that starts right at the entrance and these folk are down in the Nightmare Court area just below and not moving for hours and hours. Also I used to go down there and clean out the area but now I can’t because they have reduced the number of bags I can legitimately get by actually fighting and killing any Nightmare Court there.

Look at the dailies as a chance to actually finish any jp you haven’t gotten yet. (thank you to all the fabulous mesmers out there!) The AP for finishing one is well worth it.

Anet has included enough other stuff that if I don’t feel like doing a particular jp, I skip it and do other things to get my daily in.

I done the JP and you know what? Not recognized for dailies, okay fine went to wvw, the shrine dailies, done, you know what? Not recognised as dailies… It was a bad day.

I think the JP was broken. I got to the top today and didn’t get the daily either.

Something similar happened to me with the Griffonrook JP daily a couple days ago… got to the top, no credit… looked it up, and saw that I needed to carry a bomb… went back and grabbed the bomb and made my way back up… set the bomb at the chest… and boom: nothing.

~EW

You don’t need the bomb to get credit for that jumping puzzle. I have done it many times without the bomb and gotten credit for it for the monthlies we used to do. The bomb just allows you to loot the chest (and others if they are present). There was another chest you could loot part way up instead.

I think this current puzzle was a bad choice in that it is not really clear that you need to collect the 12 orbs in order to loot the chest which in turn gives you the daily achieve. This was one of the last jumping puzzles I did because of the close camera angles which made jumping/viewing difficult and even any of the walkthroughs of this puzzle were a bit confusing for me to find the orbs. Overall I was glad I did it but I have not been back because it was more frustrating than challenging.

Antre of Adjournment would have been a better choice as it has a bit of challenge but has some nice rewards along the way.

Coin-fed salvage-o-matic refund

I’m still quite frustrated that I have so many Salvage-o-Matic’s wasted sitting around in my personal bank because they’re too valuable to just outright destroy. I, personally, think not refunding the gems for them is a mistake on ANet Support’s part as far as customer satisfaction goes.

Perhaps as an alternative they could add an in-game vendor that’d let you exchange them for 75 black-lion salvage kits…?

Even though 75 of the kits = 900 gems, and a copper-fed = 800 gems, I seriously doubt there’d be many people exploiting the vendor.

~EW

Or when harvesting tools are on sale for 800 gems then you could trade in a copper fed for one. That would be a reasonable trade I think.

Malchor has been bugged all over the map. I keep ending up in the same IP 228 where there are endless spawning mobs that people are XP farming near Paga WP as well as a never ending stream of spawning risen that head towards a non existent event and then disappear over by Wren WP. Bauxite has been bugged as well. Once I realized the map was bugged I have been checking the IP to see if it was more than one or just this one. (type in /IP in chat and it will tell you what the IP is – also good to reference if you are making a bug report)

Last night someone actually got us into another IP – think it was 237 and we were able to complete the event for some who were needing it. One person’s wireless connecting had troubles so I really felt for them as they crashed near the end.

It has been frustrating this week because this map has the Powerful Blood reward and it is very hard to get events completed to get the rewards. I am hoping the next update fixes it.

Mastery Points: Number the flaws

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

Not enough mastery points in a wide enough area of content. Being forced to do Adventures for mastery points means that you directly couple in the flaws of the Adventure system into the mastery system. You look at the Adventures system and you see the problems like overtuned content, bugs, over-reliance on RNG and timed content with mechanics where lag will destroy your score. Instead of this just being a problem with optional content it becomes a problem with your core progression mechanic when you tie to masteries. I got enough points to max out my masteries and then never touched Adventures again.

XP becomes worthless after you max masteries. Which is completely bonkers for a progression system. Players should continue to gain experience after completing masteries and receive something for filling an experience bar. I don’t care at all what the player receives but it should be something. One of the best suggestions I’ve seen was Mystic Coins since there’s so few ways to get them in game. But again, I don’t care what the reward is, just that there should be one.

Many of the masteries aren’t actually good. They generally act as gates in two senses: The first that they gate off content that you may or may not care about. For instance, nobody really cares about being able to fight the ally champions beyond the collection items they give. “Yeah! I get to fight Potoni the Massive,” said nobody ever. The other kind of content they gate off is in regards to where you can go in the environment. Unlocking Itzel Poison Lore and having new areas to go to was actually kind of neat. I wouldn’t like to see this concept over-applied but the way it was done in this instance, I actually enjoyed. The second way that they act as gates is in regards to other masteries. There are a lot of interesting masteries locked behind masteries that nobody cares about. If players were given the option to choose which order to unlock masteries then you know that there are a bunch that would just never get unlocked at all. So from the perspective of a progression system this isn’t great. Your progress should be meaningful, you should be excited, like, “Yeah! This new thing I’ve unlocked is awesome” instead of “Okay, so I’ve unlocked this thing nobody cares about and now I’m one step closer to the awesome thing I actually want. Yay.”

The primary take away is that as a progression system it’s heavily flawed. Trying to force players to do things they don’t enjoy is a great way to create disgruntled players who burn out and quit your game. Having a progression system that makes one of your currencies irrelevant is a great way to make players avoid content related to that. If I have to sit down and ask myself, “Do I really want to go play in the open world and do events that grant me no experience and pathetic loot when I could be doing more rewarding content like SPvP or Fractals” then you’ve created a system that devalues your own existing content. But considering what Anet did to dungeons, maybe that was their intended goal here. The final thing to focus on is that with meaningful progression the keyword is meaningful. It shouldn’t feel like a chore or busywork or unrewarding. Every milestone achieved should actually feel meaningful instead of feeling like filler that takes you closer to something actually worth having.

Well said.

There are some masteries I would have liked to have skipped but the mastery I wanted couldn’t be opened unless the one before it was opened. Itzel Leadership, Nuhoch Proving and Exalted Purification come to mind as ones I could have done without or had them last as something to use extra mastery points on for additional rewards which I suspect are not that good anyway. I think they lost the meaningful progression by gating this way. The only mastery progression I thought was well done was the gliding. I enjoyed working my way towards the end goal on that one. I felt like I had achieved something by finishing. The others I do not have that feeling at all and really am not working that hard at finishing them.

Also obtaining mastery points should be able to be gotten more than one way – do an adventure OR a quest OR obtain some items to turn in etc. Not everyone can or wants to do adventures. Timed things are a nightmare for me especially if any jumping is involved. I don’t mind putting some work into getting the mastery point, I just would like some variety to do it in other than, oh goodness, now I have to jump/fly/fall within this time frame through these tiny boxes. Things like that force players to accept that there are some things they will not be able to obtain in the game because they may not be able to perform what is required either to disability, computer issues etc.

I assume some of this is to push players into trying out some of the other game content. I do think it is good to at least try the other content so you can decide if it is for you or not. I made Mawdrey II which required me to do some fractals. I did just enough to finish Mawdrey. I was glad I tried it because I realized it was not something I cared to do regularly and have not been back. You need dungeon tokens for Gifts for Legendary weapons and it is nice you can also do PvP tracks to obtain them if you do not care to do the dungeons and deal with the LFG issues. That is a good example of alternatives to being able to reach a goal.

I just want to be able to work towards a goal and feel a sense of achievement when I get there.

BLK Miniature Snow Owl Account Bound?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aerinndis.2730

It won’t make any difference which character you use to open the chests.

I agree that ANet needs to limit the number of non-buff, non-service items that drop from the chests. It’s okay for a mini egg or dye pack to be bound, not for a dye or a mini to be bound, since those are likely to end up being duplicates especially for frequently flyers.

In the meantime, voting with your wallet is indeed the best idea (as well as letting ANet politely know why your purchasing habits are changing, as you did in this post).

This. ANet needs to let us throw these account bound minis in the Mystic Forge for at least chance at something else. Sadly the majority of what comes out of these chests is useless so adding some account bound even further useless items that you can do nothing with other than destroy just adds more insult to these chests. I have gotten the odd valuable item opening them but the ratio to the stuff I don’t want or consider junk is way higher than the items of value and makes it not worth it to me to even try to open any more. Voting with my wallet on this one.

There are a lot of loose lore ends out there from the previous living stories that I would love to see more tied into where the big story is going. I realize it is a lot of work but it would so add to the overall story to find out what is really going on with the consortium, Hero-O-Tron’s story line with Evon Gnashblade, etc. Small mini stories we could also follow through to learn more. Or conversations we could trigger if we started talking to more npcs that would provide clues to talk to other npcs to find out things.

I remember in Metrica at Soren Draa there is a message robot that goes back and forth and passes messages. I followed that robot for quite some time totally enchanted with the messages he was taking back and forth between two asurans concerning their relationship. I am not sure it is still there but I thought it was such a nice touch. Some of the loose ends of the Living Story could be tidied up in such a way. Some things we would have to discover and possibly follow someone even into a small instance to get more insight. This would certainly add more depth to the storyline over all.

Heck, I am still wondering what happened to the underground sewers in Lion’s Arch and will we ever get into Divinity Reach’s sewers. I bet there is some interesting things to find, lol….

Probably. If if it is you can probably also thank all the people last year that had a major hissy fit on the forums and made ANet go and apologize to them for making an April fools joke that they decided to be triggered by.

Sigh. While I enjoyed the patch notes I would love to have had an in-world April Fools joke today. I really have enjoyed the past ones too and judging by the Bobble head Laboratory and Aviator box. It is one day to just have fun in a world that isn’t seeing a lot of fun right now.

mastery points

Dulfy has great guides for each of the Heart of Thorn maps to get the mastery points. Here is her guide to Verdant Brink Mastery Points and Strong Boxes

You should be gaining experience as you traverse the maps and do events (experience boosters help make it faster). Once you have done enough mastery points you should be able to go into the Mastery Tab of the Hero panel and spend the points on what you have opened up. You can choose which line to put your experience in so be careful and look at them all before choosing which completed one to spend the masteries on. I recommend gliding first and then the mushroom jumping. Those get you off to a good start.

ANNOYING 4 layer maps!

I like Tangled Depths for its diversity from the other maps but not the map layers as it is currently shown for that map. It is the one map that could use a lot more layers as it is hard to impossible to figure out if something is indeed above or below and you are not near enough to figure it out or figure out how to get there. Possibly additional layers might make it clearer where some paths lead to.

I spend more time in confusion and looking at layers only to find I am still heading in a wrong direction or have no clue where to go next other than finding a somewhat safe spot and then having to go out of game to look for how to get there. Or I have to wait for events and follow the crowd to get to or near where I want to go.

I am not against multiple layers. It is a brilliant idea. Just that the layers should be more helpful to orienting one’s self in that map.

Best Wvw memories.

The Unlimited Gathering Tools is tedious!

I just wish it had been implemented early on as I would have enjoyed collecting ‘skins’ for my basic endless salvage kit. Possibly they could implement it with tokens for any spares you had so that when new skins came out you could use the tokens to get them.

A lot of folk were sure they would refund on the salvage-o-matics but they did not.

Yay, got the Asuran Electromagnetic glider, Human Classical glider (plus other assorted wings etc.) and Charr Ironclad glider! Now we need a Sylvarian style glider (sheds leaves or flowers as it goes, please!), a Norn style glider -different leather pelts and bone maybe?

I love collecting these gliders. Great work devs!

Man-made loot from nature mobs

…is completely and utterly kittened.
That a pink Moa or a Fresh Water Crab could somehow be hoarding an axe, gold coins or other man-made loot is ridiculous and breaks any immersion one might wish to find in a game.

As ‘yucky’ as I feel this is, I can’t see this changing any time soon. But could someone try and explain the mentality behind such a ‘design’ decision?

Those Moas and Crabs will eat anything!

They just need to add our endless gathering tools into the wardrobe. That way we can preview the different looks when we used them and on each character we’d be able to choose which one we want to use. People will always buy a new look if they like it so they just need to go back down to 800 gems and be put in the wardrobe. It’s just like everything else in this game like gliders/outfits/finishers/mini pets. Now it is time for endless gathering tools to be put in the same wardrobe system.

While I like this idea if Anet would implement this would we be in the same boat as those who own multiple salvage-o-matics when we got the account wide bag slots? No refund or ability to salvage them or trade them for something else. I assume a large number of folk have bought multiples of the endless gathering tools for the convenience and/or looks. With the advent of account wide bags I have read some keep the regular harvesting tools on their toons and just have kept one set of endless tools and swap them out as needed.

I have no issues with purchasing multiple tools though not all of my alts have them. I watch for sales and buy them if I feel I will need them. I hate having to equip and unequip so eventually I suppose all my alts will have endless harvesting tools. (I don’t have that many alts so it isn’t as much a hardship as it would be for someone who has many alts) The convenience is worth the money to me to not have to stop and swap something out.

I think this idea has merit but it might have been something to be implemented early on in the game rather than now. Unless Anet would offer some sort of program to recycle/salvage/trade-in spares I would not want these to go in the wardrobe. I certainly would not expect any refund for the tools or the salvage-o-matics since I have gotten a great amount of use from them and I consider it money very well spent.

Mastery Cap Without Gold in Adventures?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

It’s possible to teach how to get gold and show all the short cuts and learn it sub 1 HR.

No, it’s not. Speaking from experience, I can guarantee that it will take more than an hour to teach me, even if you flew out to my home and coached me in person. I simply don’t have the motor coordination or muscle memory to succeed at timed challenges where it’s critical to remember the location of the hazards|buffs|targets and be in the right spot at the right time, facing the right direction, using the right skill.

Part of why I have gravitated towards RPGs was to avoid exactly that sort of game style.

Now, I’m completely willing to accept that Adventures are going to remain in GW2 and will be required for certain masteries and/or collections. I hope that those who like or don’t mind them can accept that some of us will never be good at them, let alone enjoy attempting to get gold credit, not for love or money.

tl;dr it’s a lot harder for a minority of us than some folks would think.

Pretty much this.

Even getting silver or bronze in some of the adventures is a challenge and probably not in the cards for me. There are some disabilities such as TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) that will preclude some from timed event or things that you have to memorize a pattern or route. Attention span, issues with short term memory etc. all play into it. So yes, some of us have to accept that we won’t be getting certain masteries or collections.

As Illconceived said it is obvious that Adventures are going to continue to be part of the game. It is nice for the folks who can do these things and I am glad they are having fun doing them. You do have to respect the folk that try for these achievements even if they are unable for some reason to complete them. I do not see any solutions for those who are unable to do them other than acceptance that some things in the game are just not going to be attainable.

Heart of Thorns Maps Complexity

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

Personally I think Tangled Depths is just gratuitously convoluted and tedious, not helped by the woefully inadequate maps.

In a zone where the meta event is the only playable content, making it tedious for players to be able to get from one event to another isn’t IMO fun, it’s simply aggravating.

The other three zones are fine mainly, AB has one or two annoying “take the long road ‘cos the short one’s blocked out” treks but nothing as bad as TD.

I agree TD can be annoying. If someone wants to do thus and such hero point it is nearly impossible to pinpoint it so folk know how to get there to help out. WP tend to be far away and pretty much useless if you do not know the path to the particular hero point. Also folk tend to say the name of the hero point and not give any clue how to get there.

I am not sure of any good solution considering the depth and complexity of this particular map. My only solution has been to find groups working on the hero points. Also checking the event timer and following the NPC can at least get you through some of the stuff you need for Tangled Depths. I had way less trouble with the other maps getting achieves etc.

I am not saying Tangled Depths is bad. Just saying it is complex and is not easy to get through. That saying I have gotten two avies with completion so it is not impossible, just challenging.
