I just got the spark. I did not have the chest unlocked in the wardrobe and just had it in inventory until I got to Mt. Maelstrom.

I was able to talk to Evon Gnashblade and get the next clue.

Krepet in Metrica was hard to talk to and may be bugged. You have to leave him alone and not talk to him for a while and once he starts to move hit F to talk to him. If you are the lucky one you get the next clue. I am not sure if this was intentional or a bug. I do know the more folk who clicked on him when he only says Greet he would not move for a while longer. Once they left him alone he finally moved and you had a shot to click on him.

The rest was pretty easy as the Veteran Ice Elemental was not too hard to spot (try looking north of the roadway from the fort though I think he travels quite a ways through the area).

Once you’ve killed him race to Mt. Maelstrom. I am not sure where the best spot is to go into the lava I went in on an outer edge area and it did not work and I died. I wp back (luckily wp was open) and finally opened and wore the mini then and hopped back in at the middle point and got the dialogue which opened the chest. I am not sure if it was the location or wearing the mini at that point but I finally got it.

Don’t do a repair. It takes too long.

Delete GW2’s temporary file so it has to regenerate the file. You’ll only lose your graphics and sound settings but that’s it.

It fixed it for me.

Go here: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2 and delete the “Local.dat” file.

I am getting same error code 1083:5:7:1595:101 yet hubby is upstairs on GW2 playing away. We are on same internet…… So I looked to see if others were having the same issues and found this thread.

I just deleted the “Local.dat” file and that worked just fine! Thanks!

Reaper Greatsword, becomes ‘Unequipped’ after jumping from WP to WP, back in my Inventory, and leaving one of the Weapon slots empty. Really weird…
This only happens when traveling in the non-HoT world WPs, I think, as it never happened in the HoT area. Not sure if this is a HoT bug, but definitely has been newly introduced with the HoT Expansion, with the Reaper Elite Profession has been added to the Necromancer.
I did report this using the in-game Bug Reporter, attached with screenshot.
Hoping for a HoT (overused pun… :P) fix.

I am finding the Reaper Greatsword becoming unequipped only after changing maps. It seems to be fine going from Lion’s Arch to a map (at least it hasn’t happened for me yet) I had one time yesterday where I was in Orr and waypointed within the map and the GS unequipped. Mostly the unequip seems to happen when I go from whatever map back into Lion’s Arch.

First couple of hours will be ugh, lag, server crash, down etc. No launch time is good for anyone because of that. Launch time for me in US is 3 am (EST for me) so definitely not mid day unless I was working the night shift…. I plan on getting a good nights sleep, get up some am time after 7ish, start the download, get brekkies and then look into what goodies await. No hurry at all. HoT is there for the duration. I am a bit more interested in participating in the Halloweeny stuffs for now. Best times will actually be later in the day after the initial stuff shakes out.

Is crafting Legendary weapons this expensive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aerinndis.2730

Wait for the new legendary system – the new ones will be more epic, since you have to earn it 100% – Many of the owner of the current legendary pay real money to obtain the precursor and devalue the prestige of have one.

Those precursors that people pay with real money for, werent created from thin air, they were already there. If that player didnt buy it, someone else would, so i dont think it makes much difference in the end in terms of prestige of the weapon, if someone bought it with gold or real cash.

In three years of steady playing I have never seen a precursor drop. I ended up buying one because I wanted to make a legendary. I do not feel my legendary has any less ‘prestige’ because the precursor was bought. The prestige comes when you farm and work to get the mats and other items needed and put that legendary together. You know you did something there and there is a huge satisfaction when you put those final items into the Mystic Forge.

I just made my second legendary weapon totally farming the mats I needed. The first one I did a combination of farming, upgrading and buying mats as I went. I am very proud of both weapons and I really don’t care how others think I got the weapons. I know what I did and that is good enough for me.

The new legendary crafting system is exciting because it will be another way of adventuring but I don’t see that those will be any more epic than the current ones. Having one will just signify that someone has the dedication to see the process through to the end. It’s not about what you think others will think about you for having a legendary but what satisfaction you get from having it and using it no matter how you got it.

Is crafting worth it for casuals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

If you want ascended weapons/armour in the future it’s worth it. But for now you can wait and just buy what you need from the TP. Just have fun exploring, doing events and such.

Welcome to the game and happy hunting!

If ascended crafting is an eventual goal for you then you probably should work a bit on crafting in the professions you will need for that. Nothing says you have to sit and do marathon crafting. Plan your time for when it is easiest to craft (and if you have the materials).

Do your research with the wiki and crafting guides and plan out what you want to accomplish in the time you set aside to craft. You can also level up your character(s) while doing that.

Make sure you have the materials needed before starting so when out and about doing the things you like to do harvest everything you can and when you have enough for the bit you want to do then you can run in and get it done in a few minutes and then get to what other things you wish to do in your time available. If nothing else, it will add variety to your activities. Nothing is neater than when you craft something for yourself that is useful or something you can sell and that people want which can translate into monies to get more crafting materials.

Mordrem Invasion Update: 11 September 12:30 PM

Aerinndis.2730

We have been tracking player response and recognize that this event has not gone as intended. We’re at a point where we can’t change anything more about this event for this weekend without risk to the greater portion of the game. We also are going to postpone our plans to organize an in-game event around the Mordrem Invasion this afternoon. Instead, we’re going to continue to monitor for your feedback and collect information that will help us improve on these types of events going forward.

We are aware of an issue where if you disconnect during the event you will not be able to rejoin. If you experience this, you will be able to participate in the events that follow the one from which you disconnected. For instance, if you were disconnected during the Kessex Hills incursion, you’ll be able to get into the next stage when it takes place in Diessa Plateau.

As we mentioned yesterday, we will be taking care of those of you who did not get your rewards, so look for those in your in-game mail in the coming days.

We encourage all of you who’ve participated in the Mordrem Invasion to please share your constructive thoughts on how we can improve on these types of experiences in the future. Please share your ideas and feedback in this thread.

Thank you.

Thanks, I appreciate the response and acknowledgement about the event as it is now and that you are looking to improve future events though this experience. It is one thing I really like about Anet is they are willing to try things and if they do not work, take the criticism and suggestions and look for new and interesting solutions.

I would definitely take out the hopping around the map looking for an event to complete. It was difficult for me to get 10 events in during the time allocated in the map and I felt bad leaving any event incomplete as I am slightly OCD and like to tidy up before I move on….lol. It would be more meaningful to get partial credit (less reward) for hopping around vs helping each event complete fully. Also with the mobs most of the time you could only get there in time to hit maybe one or two things and it was over.

Since this is a limited event and it is hard to accumulate the blossoms for higher end things, instead of the 3 or 4 things I was interested in I have picked only one now and am hoping I do get enough to get it. Possibly this event could recur and pop up occasionally (every other week or some sort of schedule we could figure out) to allow folk to eventually accumulate the number of blossoms for multiple items.

If this is the type of event design I can expect from HoT, I’m glad I didn’t preorder it.

Rewards aside, (And I DID get a reward, for what it’s worth)

Forcing people to stay on the map for a full 30 minutes to get anything at all is a very poor decision, and there is no reason for it at all! Just make it like the silverwastes defense events were you get a small chest at the end of each mini-event! It’s still the same exact challenge of clearing as many of them as you can in 30 minutes.

Really, I was expecting something more like the haloween event where the haloween creatures would invade random areas, and killing them sometimes gave you thier specific loot. If the invasion mordrem dropped blooms like haloween creatures dropped Trick-or-Treat bags, this would feel a lot better, even without a meta event.

But the high gold cost is a slap in the face to the new players playing this event. A new level 20 character is NOT going to have the 10 gold on hand to buy any of the better rewards even if they do have the blooms.

While I didn’t mind staying on the map for 30 minutes, what was difficult was getting from one event to the next as it was hard to accumulate events when they got burnt down so quickly you could not get there in time. If I were a new player I would be frustrated, angry and confused. New players are trying to figure stuff out and this just adds to the confusion. Instead of making folk go for as many events as possible within the time frame it might be better to have an additional reward for staying the full 30 minutes on the map (you would have to be doing the events instead of afking) in addition to individual chest rewards.

The only “extra” loot I got was from the usual stuff that was in the area and got in the way of the zerg killing machine that was plowing through. I am not sure a zerg feeding frenzy is necessarily a good first experience for a new person, lol. (remember the toxicity of some of the Queensdale farm zergs towards new folk just trying for completion….)

I also agree about the gold cost. For me it is a non issue as I already have most of the stuff offered and I have been playing long enough that the prices are not an issue for me. I saw maybe three items I will probably try for. I cannot see any incentive for new folk with the vendors, though I do understand what it took to get a lot of those items since I worked hard to get them when they were originally out there. Possibly a better design would be to award a chest for each event completed with a random number of blooms/reward etc.

I did not mind the hearts the first time through and actually enjoyed doing them. However with every new character they just felt repetitive and became something to just get through. I always thought they could do something a bit different such as each heart has several variations of which a character can only pick one to complete. It would make it more interesting then if you had another character leveling that you could talk to the npc and pick another one so it would feel like a different experience and be a lot fresher.

Working towards my first legendary, any tips?

Great tips guys, last night got my Gift of Mastery after finishing my world completion. Without paying for mats, I’ll need to get about 200 gold just to get the runestones and craft to 400 for the Unicorn Statue and Gift of Wood. Decided last night to do some PVP, and I went ahead and printed out a list as well. Right now I’m wondering what’s the best way to get the mats I need without just trying to get gold to spend on them.

Aerinndis.2730 gave a great tip for powerful bloods in Southsun cove, are there any other places where I can get other mats? Also, what’s the best way to get all the wood I need, are those level specific areas?

Vicious claws seem to be hard to come by like the blood. I don’t know any reliable spot where you can get lots of them but you can check the wiki where there is a Dropped By location drop down you can click on to see what types of creatures and where they drop them. I think all of the wiki entries have that. Wood is a lot easier to get as it is everywhere. I sometimes make runs through a map just for those resources.

Stockpile the T5 mats so that as you near the end you can convert those into T6 if needed. I am doing that for cores for Rodgort as the Lodestones are harder to come by. I convert just a bit at a time as I can afford them.

Tip of the day: Sell to tradint post

Pretty much what folks are saying here. Donari hits it on the head directly. I always sell the stuff that gives me a greater profit than the vendor will give. I salvage mainly to get mats that I need such as silk. Check the prices of some of the materials, it might make you more profit to salvage things that produce an item that is in high demand such as cotton or linen. I also check the price of the runes or sigils because some of those end up being worth way more than the item they are in.

Patience is the key. Yes, you aren’t getting money instantly but you are getting more money in the long run. Hubby and I earned enough to buy precursors that way.

Working towards my first legendary, any tips?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

It’s the crystalline dust that ruins the deal. Well that and the gamble on your output.
The recipe evens out at 7 T6 mats gain per conversion. So if you want to do this, calculate your cost and check if it isn’t cheaper to outright sell your T5 and buy T6.

I agree, I gained but I also lost most of my dust because of the conversion. I don’t feel it’s worth, but yea. As of this morning I am at 99% map completion. So the next phase shall begin, I’m about 40% through with my t6 mats. So I’ll need to think about what to do next and I need 100 gold for Icy Runestones -_- I’m at 7g -_-

Since you still have a ways to go, every time you have the gold, do the Jormag event and buy 10 Icy Runestones. It hurts a lot less if you buy them incrementally vs laying out the 100 gold all at once plus you get any champ bags and chest rewards from the event for stuff to sell or salvage.

As for clovers and obsidian shards, don’t forget the Chest of Loyalty at the end of the month for daily log in rewards. I always take the legendary materials which helped quite a bit in those areas.

Keep salvaging rares for ectos and salvage half of those for dust so you keep a decent number of each on hand in your bank all the time. Constant small progression in making your legendary is easier than having to stop and start because you run out of materials or gold. I only did conversions very near the end for the last little bits of material (mainly the powerful blood and vicious claws). It did take some time but was very worth it for the finished product. I made The Moot and am working on Rodgort’s Flame right now.

I printed off the material list on the wiki and checked off what I had already and made notes on what I needed. That helps with forming a game plan to work on the things you want and shows you how much you have gotten done. Go out and do what you want to do daily but you can focus on areas that will produce the mats you want but try to change it up so you don’t feel like you are on a huge grind. One day I will do the champ train and then head over to Southsun Cove and Karka farm for a bit (great for the powerful blood). Another day I run around Malchor and Cursed Shore farming and doing some events – there are always event trains running there. Some days I just take a break, get my dailies done, do a bit of WvW and go back to looking for mats the next day.

Keep at it and you will get there eventually and be very proud of the work you put into your weapon.

Megadestroyer long, painful & unrewarding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

If you actually do the pre-events, you get t5 mats (especially claws from destroyers) that add up really fast. That, alone, makes the length worth it for me. However, if you’re part of the majority of players (read: the ones who sit at the boss site until the very last pre-event is up), yeah, I can see how it’s not worth the time.

Pretty much this. I started doing the pre-events because of all the mats you can get. Rarely have I seen more than six people doing those where I am (I usually do Magmatic Waypoint). The most I see folk do is to run into the cave system when the destroyers appear and get those and run back out to the zerg. Often the one on the far side is delayed due to lack of people going over there or staging themselves to get it done. Usually there is a peanut gallery going, “Are we there yet???” or “Why is this taking so long?”

I think giving open world bosses and long event chains some unique loot, possibly even some materials that allow the crafting of a themed weapon for each, would go a long way in getting people to do the events with some purpose (other than the daily). There are lots of bosses and event chains that could take advantage of this, and each could yield items needed for one particular weapon. Shadow Behemoth could offer materials for a staff, Megadestroyer a torch, etc. The materials could be guaranteed loot, with a certain amount needed to craft the weapon/skin. Maybe allow the weapons (but not the unique materials) to be sold on the trading post. Some people might find it fun to venture around and build these things regularly.

I actually like this idea. It would help make the pre-events more meaningful and worthwhile to do. As a minimum those who do the pre-events through to the main event should at least get something extra (maybe a bonus chest) for having completed them and for helping make the main event be able to take place.

Hey finally something I asked for.

As a female player, I would say let her decide which race and profession interests her. Since she can make multiple characters she should start with one she thinks she will have the most fun with. She can always make others to compare the professions.

She should check the wiki for information on the professions http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Profession and see what interests her or she feels she might want to play. I will say the elementalist was probably the last profession I made but I did not find it hard to play and ended up liking it and the mesmer quite a bit. Actually I am sorry I did not roll those earlier, though the experience of the other professions probably made those a lot more enjoyable even at the lower levels for me.

Early on it can be a bit frustrating as one learns the mechanics. If you go along with her as she starts out and gets more confident, then any profession will be just fine as long as she feels she is having fun with it.

I was in GW2 for over a year before hubby joined in. He had never done anything like this before so I laughed myself sick when he ran into a wall for 5 minutes straight until he figured out the controls, lol…. I still chuckle over that. He picked his own race and professions from the beginning and I occasionally would come along to guide him if he asked for it. We helped each other complete maps and hearts etc. and have had a ton of fun. Often we do different things in different places but will often pair up together for events or Living Story stuff.

Just go with the flow as it happens and don’t worry whether she will like this or that. If this interests her she will find her own path just fine. Just don’t get disgruntled if you find she is realllllly good at something you are not, lol….

affordability of HoT

Aerinndis.2730

You could save it up or you could go without something like going out to dinner. Now don’t take this post the wrong way but there may be things you never have thought of to get the expansion. You most likely still have a few of months before it come out and you don’t realy have to buy it now you could wait till you can save or afford it. It’s not just the GuildWars expansion but most game expansions are at the same price point and some have a subscription fee also, so this is not an unreasonable price. I’m not rich either and don’t have a lot of disposable cash to throw around, but I knew this was coming and I started saving up for it and was able to buy the $99 version. Like I said there is still time to raise the money the only reason to get it now is to get into the betas. There’s no real good reason to get into the beta except to get a into the game early and most likely we will lose all the progression in the beta and have to start over once the expansion goes live anyway.

This.

There was plenty of advance announcement that anyone could have started saving and had a substantial amount towards the expansion they wanted. All of us spend money on things we may not really need on a daily basis. Keep track of everything (yes, everything) you spend over a week and you might be amazed at what you can eliminate and have a bit to put aside for something you really want. If you really are that strapped for money then you have bigger issues and probably need to refocus on things other than gaming.

Other options would be to ask for the expansion as a birthday gift, or when the gift giving holidays come up. We do that with gem cards which make great gifts for gamers and we are always tickled to receive them.

The beta part of the expansion is only something nice to do so if you cannot afford it now it really is not that important and as Feirlista said your progress would not be saved. If you did not get into any of the other betas there are a lot of videos out there that will give you a preview of some of what is coming or at least what that beta had in it. Also what was done in beta is not set in stone so the end product may be different anyway. Certainly by saving even now you should have enough by the time the expansion does actually come out to get the one you want.

Tequatl Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

Is it September 2013 again? Everyone seems to think Tequatl is too hard again and needs a nerf. I beg to differ.

Here’s how to beat Tequatl.

First of all, you need manpower. If the map is empty then the fight is going to be unwinnable, full stop. Once you have a good pool of people, organize 30m-1hr before the fight begins.

Defense is a must. Those turrets are key to victory; if one of the batteries falls, then you will lose precious seconds and Tequatl’s scales will pile up.

The turrets are also responsible for cleansing the vanguard and buffing their offensive power with the elixir bombs.

The typical defense points for the turrets are:

North Turrets: Boat wreckage north of it, hills east of the megalaser, and a group close to the turrets to repair damages and kill claws as fast as possible.

South Turrets: Boat wreckage south of battery, hills north of battery, and a group to kill claws as fast as possible. Between the two, I FIND THIS TO BE THE HARDER OF THE DEFENSES. The spawns are more relentless it seems.

The Zerg:

You cannot mindlessly pile on the nearest spot on Tequatl anymore. Introduced in the last patch is a weak point in which you can critically hit Tequatl. This means that PVT gear is now mostly for survivability where as Berserker and Assassin’s is in for doing the big domages during burn phases. In this latest experience, this one gets kind of hectic because now you actually have to get in under Tequatl to hit the critical point. This is also a nexus of where claws can drop poison clouds, so perhaps a new team needs to be assigned to run around the field and shatter claws so they pose less of a hazard to the Zerg.

Defense Phase:

At each quarter of Tequatl’s health bar, you will hit a defense phase called the Charge Phase. There are three batteries you need to defend during a charge phase, plus the Megalaser.

The East Battery spawns Claws and lots of krait hypnoss, usually veteran or elites, and is pretty straightforward: kill claws, kill risen.

The North Battery is lousy with Risen Grubs; their holes will appear and will need to be stomped ASAP or otherwise you will get overwhelmed with their AoE attacks. Woe betide you if a champ spawns; it must die immediately.

The West Battery will have a large number of risen plague bearers and abominations attacking the battery. Use hard CC and knockback to control the abominations until they explode; when they do, they will leave behind a toxic cloud you want to avoid. Deal with other risen as you normally would.

The Megalaser will come under a constant assault of risen, including champions. The biggest threat by far will be the two Champion Hypnoss that spawn near the north boats during the charge phase. Rangers are typically employed to deal with them using Entangle to immobilize it. Entangle no longer has the duration it once did, so two or more Rangers will have to work in tandem. Once the Hypnoss is called out, a moderately sized group of 10 or so heroes should be able to deal with it in summary fashion. Killing the Hypnoss is imperative; the size of the minion group they can summon is overwhelming and will almost certainly destroy the Megalaser.

The Burn:

At :25-20 seconds until Megalaser is fully charged. everyone should head back to the beach and prepare to level all of their might against that weak point mentioned earlier. The only thing required here is to make sure everyone is on the same page before the fight begins. The standard rules apply: res downed allies, dead allies teleport to the nearest Waypoint and swim back. With sufficient manpower, and following these loose guidelines, Tequatl is easy to down.

You do not need all ascended gear, you do not need consumables, you do not need to use any special buffoonery (although if it makes it easier, there’s no reason not to take it). I hope this guide helps someone out there. Good luck, Tyrians.

I think you pretty much said it!

Now if they would make the loot a bit better than the frequent disappointing spoon drops we seem to get, it might encourage folk to pay attention and work more together.

The next Karka attack

Yes you did! Turned out it was only an “infestation” that we got to take care of.

Considering all the npc conversations I have been hearing around the city I suspect more is coming. There appear to be a lot of underhanded, back door dealings with the rebuilding of Lion’s Arch. Also the fact that so much of it was pre-built elsewhere and brought in makes me wonder what else has snuck into the city that we have not found yet. We have no idea where this stuff was built since we saw no facilities anywhere around Southsun for a project this large. The presence of karka hatchlings would indicate a possible secret build location somewhere near Southsun Cove or maybe the infestation occurred from parts being brought in from Southsun to where ever the pre-building was going on.

I also noticed where “Evon” Gnashblade is under Deverol Island there are driftwood sticks that we can pick up. It has me curious as to what we may be able to use those for. A lot of interesting things and conversations are going on and will be worth keeping an eye on for further developments.

I am thinking they swap because I went to location of OP’s picture and the dog was chasing the cat. It is these subtle touches which are the things I so love about Anet!

If those are the two showing as not being done in the achieve panel and you are not seeing them any more at the locations then I would say it is a bug. You might want to take a screen shot of the two locations where you can no longer see the karkas as well as your achievement page showing the missing ones and submit a ticket.

I really enjoyed this as well as seeing all the beautiful new areas and listening to the npc conversations. I tried to talk to everyone who could be talked to and listened in on conversations as I was searching. Wow, there are definitely some sneaky things happening in LA and I am betting some paybacks are really going to hurt…. It was fun to see what had changed and challenging to find those hatchlings. I only wished that I did not lose the gun if I fell and died and I did have one time I went into the water and it disappeared. Overall, though, it was great fun.

Some of the hatchlings were quite challenging to get. The one up on the ledge at the balcony that is hidden by the flowers I got by aiming at the ledge between the two supports on the side. Dulfy has a good picture of right where to aim at, the green circles sort of hide the two supports there and you are aiming at the bottom of the ledge support. (its #5 on the list)
http://dulfy.net/2015/06/23/gw2-lions-arch-exterminator-achievement-guide/

First person mode did help a lot with some of the camera angles especially if you have a taller avatar. Sharkmaw Caverns was the other area of difficulty as getting down into the cavern, I died multiple times. I did change traits for falling damage but it was still very tricky getting down there. (and a pain because I had to go get the rifle again) The way I remember trying to get down no longer works because if you hit anything on the way down it is instant death.

Good job on a fun event!

thank you Anet !!!

There are 3 near Turl. 1 behind him obviously. 1 in the HOuse behind him behind the bed 2nd floor and another on the 2nd floor there another section opposite the bed

That one you have to jump around the corner to get into the room as you cannot through the door. You cannot see the hatchling until you are in the room as a bookcase partly blocks the way.

Tabs for saving and changing builds

Aerinndis.2730

I like this idea as well. I would have no problem purchasing a tab that would enable you to switch a build and equipment on the fly (out of combat, obviously). You could load the build in and then add the equipment where it would be stored until needed again.

I would also love to see a wardrobe tab for account bound items that any character can use without having to take it off, dump it in the bank, log new character on, go to bank and get it then get on with playing the game. It would be the perfect thing for Ascended and Legendary items. The other tab I would like to see is one where all our tonics and toys could be stowed. I would use my transformation tonics a lot more and pull out some cool toys if I had ready access to them like we now have with miniatures.

OP, welcome to the game. Not everyone is like the toxifiers who have been floating around recently on the forums. Just keep doing what is fun for you and ignore the peanut gallery…..

Overall this is a really great gaming community. Right now, in-game, I have not encountered anyone who has been off their nut and screaming about what is going on. People are discussing it pretty sanely but overall those in-game are playing and farming etc. and doing what they have done all along. Some of us have put out our opinions and solutions about the issue and are now going about our business. In real life we often see a mob mentality and that is pretty much what is going on here.

I do think there is a legitimate issue with how the expansion was put out and I have seen quite a few fairly good suggestions on how to ameliorate the issues. Unfortunately a lot of those suggestions have been buried by all the vitrol and angst. It is ok to vent and say why you are unhappy with something but at least offer some solutions to the problem and I see very little of that in the bulk of the posts. The name calling and attacks on people as well as Anet are truly pathetic. Sadly there will always be folk who love drama piled on drama. I only thing I have to say to the rage quitters is, “Can I has your stuffs?”

Anyone bought HoT and happy?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Got the Ultimate and will get hubby the same for his birthday prezzie.

Overall I am happy. I feel I got extremely good value for the core game and I got it full price way back when it first came out. We buy gems fairly regularly but I consider that some of the cost of entertainment. I have enjoyed the hours I have put into the game, the rewards I have earned and most of all the experiences and great people I have met.

Folk knew this expansion would most likely be at least 40+ dollars. Anyone could try to put aside 5 or 10 dollars a week from the time Anet had announced this and could have had nearly enough money for the Deluxe or Ultimate expansion by now. Also this makes the perfect birthday/holiday gift to ask for now.

A lot of folk won’t set goals such as saving for something they know is coming and then complain about how they cannot afford it when it becomes available… Saving isn’t hard at all. We all spend money on stuff that we don’t really account for. If people would write down everything they spend over the course of a month they might be surprised how much they would have actually have available if they cut out things like junk food, ciggies (bad for you!), and impulse buys. We all do it. I used to budget so much a week when working for lunches, coffee, snacks etc. Anything I didn’t spend I put in an envelope and was surprised to see how much I had after only a month. Folk need to put this in perspective.

Note that you can throw those unsalvageable items into the Mystic Forge for a chance at a new item that you can either use or salvage (although you will sometimes get an item that ALSO cannot be salvaged).

In which case save it until you have enough of same and reforge! The forge is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get!

Pre-Order Question

See the Faqs on Pre-purchasing:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/94582027?_ga=1.39650083.1660296633.1414962598

Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?
Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners. You may also be able to pre-order through retailers, but there is no official pre-order program and pre-purchasing is the only way to receive the benefits of our pre-purchase program, including access to all of the Beta Weekend Events.
Note that the Ultimate edition is only available for purchase in-game and via buy.guildwars2.com. Additionally, there won’t be an option to upgrade to the Ultimate edition later if you decide to purchase the Standard or Deluxe edition.”

Hope this helps.

*edit also this:

Is a pre-purchase the same as a pre-order?
No. The term “pre-order” can vary from seller to seller, but usually means that you’re just reserving an opportunity to purchase at a later date. In the case of the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns pre-purchase, you’re paying for the game in advance of its release and receiving all of the other benefits of your purchase right away. For instance, if you pre-purchase the deluxe edition, you will pay the full purchase price and receive all of the pre-purchase and deluxe bonuses/items within 3-4 hours of redeeming the serial code. Then, when the expansion is released, you’ll get access to the new content.

Alternate Ways To Get Ascended.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Aerinndis.2730

If you would get lucky enough to get an ascended drop make sure you choose the chest piece as that takes more materials than the others and a vision crystal. I have gotten two such drops which made my heavy armor a lot cheaper to make not having to make the chest piece and the second one I chose light armor chest piece since that is sooo expensive to make. I just have not made the other pieces yet.

I got my materials just playing the game and working on them as I went. Never did I try to make it a treadmill, though I did plan carefully as I went. I did not make or try to get stuff every day but I did amass enough silk, leather and steel to be able to make the rest of the ascended armors. I have not done the medium and light because of the single stat issue so I casually continue to make the ascended mats as I get enough materials. I have also made a Legendary in that same time and am currently working on a second one. Planning and organizing go a long, long way to attaining goals and making sure you don’t burn out.

I am not sure crafting falls under “play how you want” other than you don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. There is nothing forcing one to craft other than the desire to be able to make something they really want to have or to sell, complete a collection, or make consumables for use. Making Mawdrey II certainly did not fall under “play how you want to.” You had to do fractals if you wanted it as well as other tasks. It was a goal. I did enough fractals to get what I needed and am proud I did it because it was a great challenge. Did I need Mawdrey II? No, but I wanted her and did what was required. Fractals are not my thing but if there is something else I want to make and it is a requirement I would do them again. This falls pretty much under the same category.

With crafting guides, you can get to 500 pretty quickly provided you have the materials which you have the option to buy or work to get. Planning what you need to do in small bits also helps keep it from being boring. Do a bit every day with reasonable goals. We burn out ourselves – the game doesn’t do it. Not everything is meant to be gotten overnight. Something you get quickly never has the value of something you truly worked for.

Ascended Gear: A modest proposal

The fixed stats on Ascended armor has bothered me for some time as it locks you into one stat at a very great cost for that armor… To be able to switch out stats when out of combat just like a Legendary weapon would be welcome indeed! Especially if this is going to be the top armor we have, it should have that special bit of extra other than solely the small stat boost it currently has.

My idea for Legendary weapons is the ability to ‘load’ it with a certain number of sigils (i.e. 6 different sigils) that could also be swapped out like the stats when out of combat. That would make it a truly Legendary weapon in my mind…. They could do it for the armor as well. Make this stuff truly special and desirable to work towards.

The idea of Legendary or Ascended is supposed to be something special. Legendary = mythical/heroic & Ascended = to rise up or be above (Though the current Legendaries & precursors have a lot of controversy because they can be bought if you have the gold and the RNG for precursors is so awful) I am looking forward to the new way of acquiring precursors as I believe it is a great way for folk to truly be proud of what they have by the work they have put into them start to finish.

I do not have a problem with the time gating. Ascended has been out long enough that anyone could have casually worked to get and make enough of the time gated materials for all three types of armor. After all it is something you are suppose to work for. Like Legendaries and precursors you can buy the deldrimor steel, Damask and Elonian leather and cut out the time gating all together. Either way you still have to work for the gold to buy or work for the materials to make your armor (credit cards do not count, lol). I have not worked on getting the materials every day, yet I have enough to make the medium and the light armors if I want to. (I have a heavy set of Zojja’s Ascended armor already)

Quite frankly it is the single stat issue that has prevented me from making the rest since I am not sure I want solely Berserker stats for everything else. Choosing another set of stats might also limit the use of the armor for other avatars especially if they are not running Berserker…. Hopefully this will be resolved at some point but in the meantime I continue to stockpile leather, steel and damask.
