I believe it is account bound which is why you don’t see it for sale. Also it seems to only be acquired by crafting or the lucky drop. I salvaged a piece once and got a Celestial Insignia that was account bound so I could not sell it.

See Equipment Acquisition on the wiki.

While it might be too difficult to implement, one would think that it would be logical to be able to fire ranged weapons (bows, staffs, etc) while mounted. I mean, Native Americans and others were known to be able to shoot their bows accurately while riding full-tilt on horseback!

This maybe?

I am assuming you fed both catmanders (one in Alpine with Gift of Battle and other in Desert with a can of Spicy Meat Chili).

I am not entirely sure but I thought you had to have them both before they would appear in the home instance. I checked the wiki and it doesn’t have anything in regards to that. Dulfy had comments on her page from some who only had one catmander and nothing was appearing in the home instance. Evidently it was verified that you need both for them to appear as they fight each other in zergs.

Really loved the raptors and riding had no issues there. Hated the chef mini game for Mastery point would have been better to have us put the item in the stationary pot for the chef or create the recipe at his direction (no timer pls & would be fun to get a recipe in addition to the MP). Enjoyed traversing the map – beautifully done. Loved the details around the map (laughing hyenas were great). Mobs – consortium chest in the water too many mobs to deal with that spawn from chest and area to complete with one person. Cave screamers so overpowered you can’t get away once you are hit once.

OveralI I could see the work and attention to detail that has been done so far and look forward to what else is coming.

The options have a checkbox for the mount which I used which disables the spacebar and uses the V dodge for the mount jumps. I found this worked WAY better for me and my jumps were a lot more precise and much longer than using the space bar. I was able to get to areas I could not when using the spacebar. You might want to try that for the jump part. The tailspin is tied to your #1 key not the jump part. It attacks and then dismounts you so you can complete the attack.

People had problems with the teleporter one???

Really?

oooookay.

Some folk actually have short term memory issues for various reasons… No need to be snarky about folk who may have issues doing something seemingly as simple as this seems to be for yourself. (walk a mile in their shoes and you will view it differently) It is not easy to remember sequences even as short as those were and the last sequence was presented fairly quickly.

My trick for the teleport was drawing 3 sets of switches for each round like this:
O O
O O
O O
and I numbered them so I could see what switches to pull. That got me through it.

The chef one I would have like to have seen something more believable in cooking such as throwing into the pot or putting it on a cutting board. Actually having one make/discover a recipe would have been more fun and you could have gotten a recipe as well as the MP for it.

See WoW has similar quests like this, but they implement it much better and give people more time to do things. Plus you are usually aiming at a static spot like a pot instead of an npc that likes to run around a lot.

Throwing it in the pot makes a lot more sense to me. That or take it to a prep table. I could live with that even if it meant putting a lot of ingredients in.

I had logged out to take a break and eat before logging back in for the dailies after reset. When I logged back in loading screen shows my progress for the demo but once in the map only the views and the wp show as being done. My CD mastery is locked and the points are all gone as well as any of the hearts I had done. My mount is gone with no way to get it back.

I will wait till tomorrow to use the other demo character slot because I am afraid the same will happen again without a fix.

Capping pre-patch lose out on 190 tickets?

I think it would be better if we just started over back to wood once we finished diamond instead of repeating diamond with no ticket reward and having to wait till reset night to start wood again. You still have to grind to get to diamond anyway but folk wouldn’t feel so rushed knowing they were going to lose out on tickets if they did not get there by the end of the week. Also people would feel some progress because they would get the tickets at their own pace and not feel they were losing anything because they may not have the required time to play in order to make diamond by the end of the week.

Dwayna’s area I was unable to discern any pattern to the updrafts and it was sheer luck I got to the top of the waterfall. I could not see any updrafts because the falling water obscured them so you could not tell when they went off so you could use them. The updrafts were adequate for the event below but going higher definitely not.

Also once above a guildie and I found where the spider was that we kept seeing on the map. We got into its cave and basically were 1 shotted upon entering by the Champ spider who then spawned a large group of vet babies. There was a tablet in the cave we could not even get to before dying. The tablet is impossible to see in there unless you run over it and see the interact but you are dead from the spider by that time…. I cannot imagine enough of a group will go up to that cave to defeat the spider on a regular basis since it is so difficult to get up there and there does not appear to be an alternate route other than a kind mesmer porting folk up to get it.

Again, no repair stations anywhere on the map. One at the start point would be nice and logical since they are establishing a foothold on the beach.

The one thing I noticed in the new maps was there were no repair places anywhere on the map. If they were there, they were well hidden or maybe forgotten??

New map looks great and I found it interesting to explore and figure things out.

I did the first run through with a group. For the Shining Blade Secrets we were stuck on a balcony and could throw bombs but the bulk of the mobs came in below the balcony and did not progress out far enough that we could be of much help for what little damage the bombs did. Cool down was so long they were nearly worthless. Even with the group’s aid our main person was not able to get near the 5 minute mark at all.

I went back and did some of the achieves by myself and was able to get Fearful. For Fearless I was unable to dodge the hands as they would curve around to where ever I moved and I still could not dodge them.

I liked looking for the various tomes and reading what they had to say. We really need a bookcase in our home instance to put them in so we can reread them.

I am still learning on how to properly use the new mastery so I can’t really comment on it. It does seem underwhelming but once I use it I may change my mind. It did not have the instant zing that the oakheart essence gave when first used.

WvW Escorting Dolyak Bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I have been working on A Pack Dolyak’s Best Friend Achieve otherwise I probably would have never noticed this.

Before the patch escorting a dolyak from a tower to a keep would get you gold once you got it to the keep door no matter if it was a regular dolyak or a fast one. I got it on the longer dolyak routes as well as the shorter ones. This was EBG from Umberglade -> Bravost -> Keep.

After the patch escorting a dolyak might get you a silver getting it to the door and I noticed that one area had fast dolyaks and I still got silver for escorting yesterday. This was on EBG and we were escorting them from the cave exit from Pangloss -> Veloka Tower -> Keep and only got silver.

Both areas are pretty close in distance for the escort so they should both award gold for escorting from the tower to the keep.

A side issue is the Participation because escorting a regular dolyak will invariably cause participation decay even on the shorter routes. A longer dolyak route pretty much guarantees no participation benefit at all. A fast dolyak will only get you enough participation to run to the next dolyak before it starts the decay.

Suggestion: "tagless" commanding.

in WvW

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

My guildies have discussed that it would be nice to have a Guild Commander Tag that only guildies could see. We have WvW nights where we run as a group. Invariably we start out as a small havok group and end up as a largish zerg because folk flock to any tag they see. It would be so much better than having to throw a target onto our leader. If the squad is broken down into parties then only his party would see that anyway.

I would also like to see the tag of the squad you are in to be a bit larger than the other tags so you can easily spot the commander you are with in a crowd. It would help if there were more than one commander with the same color tag out there.

A "Better" idea for outmanned pips.

in WvW

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

While I agree that the Outnumbered buff needed to be changed, I don’t think this current implementation really fixes the problem at all. My breakdown below:

1. First, the good news. From my observations, it seems that once you acquire the Outnumbered buff, it persists on you for the duration of the entire tick. This means that you now don’t have to worry about a sudden flood of players rushing onto your map right before the tick and potentially “stealing” your bonus pips. You’ll get them regardless. This is a wonderful change, ANet. Kudos on this part.

2. Unfortunately, this does nothing to address the REAL problem that was being caused by Outnumbered, which was people continuing to stay on ON maps doing small little things that don’t really benefit your server at all, like just running around capping sentries or shrines, or running yaks to Keeps that already have max supply. It’s disheartening when your Commander puts out a call for defenders for a T3 Keep under attack, and only 1 or 2 people show up to the Emergency WP, when you know for a fact that there’s plenty more players around; they’re just off doing their own thing getting ON pips. And I can’t really blame them. When it’s so difficult to get pips (particularly if you’re a new player), why would you go help with a defense that may fail anyway when you’d get far better rewards just continuing to do what you’re doing and raking in double (or even triple) the pips you’d normally make?

This problem is compounded under the new Decay system, because if you’re unable to get any participation credit (entirely possible during protracted sieges where you don’t get immediate kills), you might wind up losing all of your participation anyway.

3. The root cause of this unhealthy WvW behaviour still exists, which is the fact that it takes an unreasonable amount of time to progress through the Skirmish track every week. It’s no wonder that players are being driven to use Outnumbered in unintended ways that wind up affecting how the rest of WvW performs. I STRONGLY urge the devs to read through the suggestions in this thread and look at increasing the baseline pip acquisition rate so that players don’t feel that they are losing out by taking part in “normal” WvW: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/Feedback-Pip-Acquisition-merged/first

This. I also agree the outnumber buff needed changes and have no issues with what was done there. The decay change is another matter and I think it has lead to a worse WvW atmosphere.

I still think a cash out when you are ready to leave is something that could be done. For cashing out take out the outnumbered buff equation so it would not apply to leaving. I have no issues with a timer to prevent abuse by hopping in and out either. Give the appropriate number of pips according to the person’s rank and level of participation and add a +1 or +2 pips for just leaving and not waiting around. Prior to the update if I had level 6 participation I could anticipate about 3 sets of pips if I hung around and let my levels tick down. So if a person is getting ready to leave and he or she is at level 6 participation they would get 3 levels of ticks when leaving. Level 5 they would get 2 levels of ticks and Level 4 1 level of ticks.

If changes can’t be made then grant an extra pip or two to people who go to Obsidian Sanctum to wait out their time. If abusers try to do a rinse and repeat more than a certain number of times within a set time frame then give them a time out from WvW or a penalty so they no longer get the extra pips for a period of time.

Decay timer?!?! Are you kidding!

in WvW

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I just tried to escort yaks from the camps on both sides of our keep in ebg. First yak got me some participation. Second yak from other side was timed ok because I got a little more participation. Next yak I started losing participation as I was escorting it to the keep. Second yak I lost even more since it was a longer route and totally lost all participation before ever getting to the gate. This is unreasonable and it is now pointless to even try to escort yaks for any reason as you will lose what participation you have especially if the yak has to come from a long ways off.

Decay timer?!?! Are you kidding!

in WvW

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

The issue I had was mainly during slow time for my server that there were enough roamers that you could not get to a camp to take it, a sentry or a ruin etc. before it was taken so you could not keep up your participation unless you found a group to take larger things like towers.

Also repairing doesn’t always work well especially if something is being continually trebbed but the supply may be needed to siege up inner keep or a tower for the eventual invasion. It just leads to bad feelings as folk who are using up supply to repair to keep up participation take supply from those who are trying to defend. It does not lead to folk working together.

Also I went into decay just running around with a zerg finding things to do. The decay before was working just fine. It might be better if when you are done to be able to ‘cash out’ your remaining time into pips depending on what level you have gotten. It would keep folk from hanging around waiting for decay of participation and clotting up maps. Plus it would give you something for the work you put into getting to that level.

Aerinndis.2730

Problem is, you can have outnumbered for 4 out of 5 minutes, and then lose it just as the tick happens, probably because of people shopping around to get the buff on the tick and ruining it for the people who actually deserved it.

The real issue, I think, is that for players with lower WvW ranks, having Outnumbered literally doubles (or more!) your pips per tick. That makes it very frustrating when you lose it at the last moment, and encourages exactly the sort of ‘shopping’ that causes that to happen. IMO, the system should be rejigged so that you get more pips by default, and having the Outnumbered buff is a smaller contribution. I think increasing the base rate by two and decreasing the Outnumbered buff by two would probably be in the right ballpark – still an incentive, but it doesn’t create the situation where players with lower ranks feel they have to have the buff for it to be worthwhile.

Seriously, at the moment, a player who’s yet to reach Bronze can get as few as one or two pips per tick (depending on their server’s performance and whether they have the commitment bonus), while Outnumbered jacks it up to six or seven. That’s a big incentive to play ‘hunt-the-buff’ rather than playing WvW as intended.

I have seen the outnumbered buff come and go throughout a skirmish but inevitably it disappears just moments before the tick ends which denies any benefit for those who actually stay on a map for an entire skirmish because they are defending, escorting dolyaks, running with a commander etc.

I would rather see an outnumbered buff granted to those who stay on the map for a certain period of time if the buff shows up during that tick. They should get those outnumbered pips even if it goes off right at the end of the tick. Those who map hop should lose any access to the buff because they are not on the map long enough to have earned it. I would rather see more incentive to staying with a map and helping out rather than the current shop around mentality.

Outnumbered pips should be dependent on how how long you have been on that map during that skirmish not for just popping in and getting lucky.

For those of us who remain on a map to defend areas, refresh siege, escort dolyaks, build siege, take back camps we should get some reward/participation points for doing the maintenance things that need doing. Defense things should count for participation and pips as well.

Outnumbered pips should be granted for remaining on a map for a certain amount of time while outnumbered even if the outnumbered comes and goes throughout the skirmish. I have watched the outnumbered buff come and go within a skirmish as people hop around looking to get that outnumbered buff especially as a skirmish reaches the end of the time. Those of us who stayed to defend etc. while outnumbered lose because of the map hopping going on. It certainly does not give any incentive to remain and defend when you get little to no reward or participation for doing so.

I’ve completed Diamond 3 times this week. I would also like it if every subsequent completion of the 6 tiers of diamond awarded more tickets. In all seriousness I am being rewarded with more pips because I have been a primarily wvwvw player. I feel like it is working as intended.

I have also completed Diamond 3 times this week. It would be nice to get more tickets but I do understand the cap. However, I would like to see additional rewards such as Mystic Coins for each additional completion or an Amalgamated Gemstone.

If you are not inTS you don't matter.

in WvW

Aerinndis.2730

I am on one of the paired servers for CD. We tend to be on our own TS when in WvW since we often break off to take camps, provide distraction or assist in other ways. But when we are following another commander we closely watch the chat and what the commander is doing. We try to be as observant as possible and provide as much support as we can for the commander.

If you are not on TS for whatever reason then it is your obligation to not just blindly go where mob is going. There is a lot of information out there even without using TS. You have to watch what is going on around you, what the commander is doing and what is being said in chat. I have one chat channel that I label ALL because it has map, local, whisper, team, squad, party chats so I can see everything that is being said. Know where your position should be in the zerg and know your class and what it does within a zerg and where it should be in relation to the commander. Stick to the commander instead of squirreling off to get that one lone roamer just for a bag. The only thing I ask of commanders is if we need to waypoint that it gets linked in chat. If the commander knows what he is doing and you pay attention you can follow quite easily without TS but I also highly recommend TS since it does help to follow the commander especially if you are new to WvW. I realize that often in TS emotions get high and things get said – but things like that can really turn new folk away. We work to keep our TS channel civil and respectful even when things get exciting.

Again. . . Giant Slayer fix ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I got Giant Slayer mainly working the Brisban U.N.I.T. event in the Toxal Bog. (took me 4 years off and on before I did, lol) Usually there are several people working on that achieve there but if you put out in map chat or LFG you will get folk who are working on it.

I had one character I left there and went in every day to check. If there was a group working the event I stayed for as long as I could. Good AOE skills are a must to make sure you tag as many giants in the spawn as you can. Also letting U.N.I.T. fail helps respawn the event quicker though it is only a few minutes longer if it succeeds. The only bad thing is the folk who go too far ahead and kill everything and bug the event. If that happens submit a bug report with the IP (use /ip to find it) and I found it got fixed within a reasonable time.

The only thing I wish is a title “Giant Slayer” for the effort you have to put into getting this. It does take some dedication to get. It is the only creature slayer that takes a lot of time and effort to get.

We know how strong the largos are lorewise, so to find a dead one here is just an easter egg. Designed to show that this place is truly quite dangerous if you aren’t prepared.

I agree, it is one of those small details that really makes this area. Though I do wonder how the largos got there because it could not have swam because it would have died long before it got to this point unless it died early on and got washed up. I would assume it just followed the pact here and found it got into a bit more than it could handle.

You can get from the submarine to Rata Arcanum in a few seconds if you’re willing to jump in them:

so here you go, a map, please forward it to everyone who says the map is hard to navigate.
Thermal Tubes take you literally everywhere
I know there’s one more thermal tube in the north, but it doesn’t lead anywhere signifcant

Nice map showing the lava tubes!

I use Heathen’s Hold Waypoint as my main starting point for nearly everything. There are jumping shrooms nearby that can take you a level higher, the lava tubes which will get either to or near where you want to go. You can take one and start flying in any direction and be high enough to get to a lot of upper areas. You can drop off the edge and fly down to the next layer below or the small shelf below that to get to the flax farm. I think for map cohesiveness Savage Rise should have a waypoint somewhere in it though.

When I first got to the map I was doing the story with friends and we ran all over and I was totally confused and could not remember where stuff was. After I went around on my own it got a lot better. I did the Rock Star achieve and that helped me get my bearings as well. Dulfy’s guide was very valuable also in figuring out where to navigate.
I definitely like this map a lot better now and way better than Tangled Depths map.

There are issues with the main map and the mini map that just do not show you where you are when you are sort of in between layers. I found my self clicking over and over on the layers to try to figure out what was where in relation to where I thought I was. I ended up using personal markers (alt/left click) to mark where I wanted to go to so I could see what direction to go to when dropping down and flying to the next level. With this many layers there should be some better way to show you where you are in relation to things.

When I first encountered the map I really hated it because it was confusing and even doing the story I could not remember what was where afterwards when trying to finish mapping. The map is very confusing as there are layers you cannot see on the main map and the mini map. I am not sure of a solution but I found the main map and mini map nearly useless when trying to figure out what was beneath or above and how far it might be. The layers are not adequate to show things. I had great difficulty finding the Waypoints on the map and clicking from layer to layer was awful. The waypoints should be reasonably visible on all layers of the map so you can orient yourself better.

On a second run through with another character I found using Heathen’s Hold Waypoint as the central most way to get around to things. The nearby lava tube takes you to Titan’s Throat and the lava tube there will get you over the inquest camp via the tube and gliding. Jumping off the edge of Heathen’s Hold and flying down will take you below but you can go below that first ledge and get yourself down to another not so obvious ledge where the flax farm is. It takes a bit of figuring but using the Heathen’s Hold Waypoint it was a lot easier for me to get to most of the points on the map. Definitely check out the lava tubes as they proved very handy. If you have enough mastery points make sure you get the new mastery. I do love the Oakheart’s Essence. It made getting around a lot more interesting and saved my life more than once from mobs!

I do think another waypoint on Savage Rise or near its edge would have helped with being able to find things a bit better and would have made the map feel more cohesive.

I like the map a bit better than the first time I encountered it but it is definitely challenging to navigate.

Should ANet change the Floppy Fish?

According to Gnashblade’s own blurb, these fishes came from Lake Doric. It’s possible that they got mutated somehow by the Bloodstone magic to be capable of surviving outside of water. (Although being fish, they probably don’t like it based on memory alone.) Still, the fact that the fish can “follow” you so energetically around out of water suggests to me that it’s perfectly fine and not hurt by being outside of water.

Filet left Lake Doric because he was looking for his home in the fjords which is why I found him in Southsun Cove……

I’ve just spoken to the fish and he says he’s just fine. He’s always wanted to be out of that darned water and he thinks you should save your pity for someone who needs it.

That fish spotted me when I was on vacation in Southsun Cove while swimming and decided to follow me home. Despite many attempts to make it go away, I sighed, gave up and adopted the fish. As you know, in Tyria, when a fish adopts you, it adopts you for life and will follow you to the ends of the earth. I named him Filet and we take long walks through the wilds of Tyria and of course I make sure to give him plenty of swim time whenever we encounter water. Filet has turned out to be a faithful friend and travel companion. He is versatile and has saved my life on several occasions – one time he flipped and slid under an angry char causing him to slip and fall so Filet and I could get away while that char was figuring out what had happened. Lesson to be learned here is never underestimate the fish who follows you home…

Everyone becoming a skritt and running around yelling, “Shiny!” would do it for me this year. Also have it in keeping with your character Norn sized skritt, asuran sized skritt etc.

hopefully and maybe anet will come up with something far more better this year besides SAB . or like the airplane mistake that happened . something that will be funny and add to the game as well . otherwise if its like the airplane thing or SAB i will not be playing at all during that time then

I don’t think the ‘airplane thing’ was a mistake. They had it planned long before any real life incidents happened and it was irrational to me for some to relate it as intentional to any recent things that occurred. There are always some who will take apples and oranges and try to turn them both into melons, lol… I thoroughly enjoyed the airplane animation – it was clever and well done. I also loved the bobble head – I laughed and laughed when I first logged in. Then I took lots of pictures for both events. Even now I look back at those days and chuckle.

I realize some just either don’t ‘get it’ or only want about a minute or two of the joke so they can get on with whatever it is that is their focus. As one day of the year to just get silly I would prefer that Anet continue to gift us with one day of crazy. SAB can be there too for folk who love that and want to get away from the crazy. I really want to be able to look forward each year to what Anet has up their sleeve for us on this one day. Goodness knows we need the laughs.

Raven's spirit glider is too big

I like the glider and it’s size in relation to my character. I don’t feel it is too big. There are other gliders that are pretty large as well (bubble one comes to mind).

There are some situations though where putting on a smaller glider is a courtesy.
For example, in an HP zerg be polite and put on a smaller glider so the folk behind you can see where they are going. Nothing like trying to fly to a branch you cannot see because the person in front of you has a glider that blocks your view of where you need to land. That is pretty much the only instance I can think of where the larger gliders can get in the way of others. Other than that I don’t see where the larger gliders impact much of anything. I enjoy seeing all the different gliders out there.

afk farming everywhere

The main issue with afk farmers for me is that they ramp up any nearby events making it very hard for for folk who actually do events for map rewards to complete those events. Silverwastes, Bitterfrost, Malchor and Mount Maelstrom are where I have seen the same folk day in and day out no matter what time of day they are there. I report the ones I have not seen move from the same spot when I pass by in 24 hours. As it was said, I think Anet just does not have the resources to deal with this on a consistent basis.

As for the ones who never help fight the mobs they drag into others because they are too busy on their harvesting runs just remember that one of those mobs might just drop a precursor for the ones who stayed and killed them. I have gotten many a nice drop from mobs like that.

I’d pay extra for a Food/Buff Page – All food and potions/buff items can now be auto-deposited to this new tab in the bank. A new button is available on the UI that lets me access this tab from anywhere in the world to consume any food/buffs that I have stored there

This! It would be so helpful and I would love to collect more tonics if I had the room for them.

Confusion about the Sword Taxonomy collection

Yeah, really wish I had known there was a way to do the collection BEFORE crafting all of those. I don’t need/want the weapons, I just wanted the achievement/ap.

If they are not saleable I would submit a ticket to see if they would give the materials back since you had no way of knowing and it really wasn’t clear.

It seems after reset I got the mail from the Pale Tree to come speak with her. I went and talked to her and completed that part. I went back to my home instance and Ridhais had moved a bit but I was able to talk and got the option to trade the sword I got in for a ‘Regrown Caladbolg’ + 1000 unbound magic. The ‘Regrown Caladbolg’ is soulbound but you double click on it to select which of the other weapons you would like. You get the Ascended weapon then which is like all other Ascended weapons. You can open the rest of the collection that way without having to craft anything but you only have one weapon. If you want them all, not just the skins then you would probably have to do the crafting bit.

Yes, it is not clear at all. I think you would need to have a total of 5 characters having gone through HoT in order to actually acquire all 5 weapons. I only had one that did it and cringe at the thought of going through that again….
