Charged Quartz Crystals

It is easier to collect enough Quartz Crystals (home node or Dry Top) you can always go to some easy places to charge them such as Shaemoor Garrison in Queensdale if you do not have the Place of Power in your home instance. Crystal collecting is super easy in Dry Top as there are lots of nodes to collect for that.

I am not sure why you feel time gating should be removed on the crystals. If you have the crystals or the place of power in your home instance all you have to do is collect enough crystals daily to convert into charged crystals. You can also get tons of crystals in Dry Top. I keep on those and have been since they existed so you can eventually get a decent supply for whatever you need them for.

Not everything should be an “I want it now.” Sometimes patience and some work yields much greater satisfaction in the end.

I think a new race and class would be totally plausible.

They could totally add a 2nd chapter in the personal story with their own mentor and have that be their arc that can be experienced after a personal intro portion with other races as well. Then have an option to go play the 1st story arc. It would have to pick up somewhere after the personal intro with the disclaimer of “You are experiencing events prior to your arrival in Tyria”. Not to much different than exclusive classes of chapters in Guild Wars 1.

I still think one day Tengu will come out of isolation and we may get a new class and race.

Most logical to me would be the Tengu since it would be the easiest to reconcile their story with what we know so far in the world and their story line/lore would be totally new to us. Their isolation back story and coming out could be very, very interesting. I think it would be very neat to introduce them as well as a new profession class along with their culture.

It could also open up new areas that are Tengu with new story lines and issues as they learn to cooperate with new allies.

I definitely have hopes something like this will eventually happen. Hope springs eternal….

If you have a harvest/logging/mining requirement and if you have nodes in your home instance, you can go to the cultural city specified (ie. Ascelonian = Black Citadel etc.) and get most if not all your harvest/logging/mining requirements in one go.

Archaeological Institute of America also had an article:
http://www.archaeology.org/news/2874-150107-sicily-orichalcum-metal

The article says, “Analysis of the metal shows that it is an alloy made of copper, zinc, and small percentages of nickel, lead, and iron.”

I guess that would make our GW2 raw orichalcum ore something a bit different.

Recipe: Feast of Asparagus and Sage Salad

It really wasn’t very clear at all. The first recipe Bowl of Asparagus and Sage Salad is discovered by crafting. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bowl_of_Asparagus_and_Sage_Salad

A lot of the recipes are prefaced by Plate of or Bowl of which makes them harder to find I think when trying to search the wiki. Then the feast recipe is Mystic Forge but how one would intuitively discover it is beyond me.

Picking a class for my wife

Why not let her experiment and pick her own?

When my husband started playing I had similar concerns to you. He’s not that great at RPGs because he doesn’t have the patience to plan and stick to a build or consider tactics in combat (GW2 isn’t so bad for that, but he was terrible at Dragon Age: Origins for example, even on easy mode).

His first character was an elementalist, followed by a mesmer. I was literally biting my tongue waiting for him to get frustrated and angry so I could suggest playing something simpler like a guardian.

But he loved it, especially the mesmer. He got shown a few shatter builds by a friend and got really into it. And when he did try a guardian (and a warrior) later he found it really boring and never got them beyond level 15 or so. (This was before the NPE so that was enough to try out a few traits and get a feel for the profession.)

If I’d pushed him into a ‘safe’ profession it would probably have put him off the game.

What Danikat said. I played GW2 for over a year before hubby decided he wanted to try after watching me. He never had played any MMOs before so everything was a discovery for him. He just picked what seemed interesting to him and started playing. Sometimes he got frustrated but as he went he found what he enjoyed. Now he has several 80 level professions and he has gotten a lot of enjoyment out just discovering on his own.

She will get more out of figuring it out on her own as she goes. Sometimes I would join him as he was discovering areas had a good time together as he was leveling up. I helped him when he asked in-world but generally he did what he wanted. His play style isn’t like mine but he has done very well and it has been a lot of fun watching him discover things.

I will say since he had never played anything like this before, I did laugh myself sick when he first created a avie and ran it into the wall for 5 minutes while he was figuring out controls. I still chuckle…. He laughs about that now too.

Wiki for Mystic Forge (scroll down to Recipe Sheets) http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge

It says:
“These recipes do not produce the respective items; instead, they produce a recipe sheet for the appropriate crafting discipline.”

Also: “The amount of ingredients required for recipe sheets depends on the rating of the item. For example, for a chef rating 200 recipe sheet you need 9 Bottles of Elonian Wine, 12 Crystals and 26 Mystic Coins.” And you need one dessert or meal 100+ level (the relevant base food item needed).

So to create the recipe sheet for Feast of Asparagus and Sage Salad you would need to discover the Bowl of Asparagus and Sage Salad and then use it with the above in the Mystic Forge to make the recipe sheet for the Feast of Asparagus and Sage Salad. Once you have that recipe sheet then you can just craft the feast using 10 Bowls of Asparagus and Sage Salad.

What Anet does *right*

Here’s my list, in no particular order:

No subscription
This is a big one. I could afford a subscription game, but I’d feel pressured to play it to justify the price. This month would be a nightmare for me – I’m away for 2 (non-consecutive) weeks but I want to play in between, so I’d also have to pay for all that time I’m not using. With GW2 I don’t have to worry.

No stat treadmill
Yes there is grind in this game, but not for things you have to have to play. When I got to level 80 I got a set of exotic gear pretty much straight away with karma I’d saved up. Then within a month I did both the newly released Flame and Frost dungeon and Arah path 2. In a lot of MMOs that wouldn’t be an option. A newly max level character couldn’t go and do the final dungeon in the game, they’d have to do all the others first to get the other equipment tiers in between.

Along the same lines I’m still using some of that same gear now, almost 2 years later, and it’s still basically the top tier (yes there’s ascended, but that’s a very minor improvement).

No Pay-to-win
Sure you can buy gems, convert them to gold and use it to buy exotics, or even legendary weapons. But there is nothing you can get by spending real money that you can’t get relatively easily without spending anything. I have spent money in the gem store, but always for novelty items, I’ve never felt like I had to in order to keep playing.

Cooperative PvE
I realise this will sound like I’m paraphrasing Anet’s promotion of the game, but I really like that I don’t have to worry about other people around me in PvE because they can’t, deliberately or accidentally, screw up my game. They can delay me slightly, for example if reviving NPCs counts towards a heart and they revive one before I get there, but it’s relatively rare. I don’t have to worry about them stealing my kills or loot or me stealing theirs, or messing up their events. At worst I’m indifferent to other people, quite often I’m actually happy to see a random stranger come along because I know they’re going to help me, without me having to say or do anything to persuade them. (Sure it’s for their own interest, because they want to complete the event or whatever, but that’s the beauty of it, two people playing in the same area totally independently are also helping each other.)

Generally friendly community
This partially stems from the above, but I think the players deserve credit too. There are exceptions of course (come on, it’s the internet) but it’s nice that on the whole people are friendly and civil to each other.

The art style
I try not to make graphics a priority for me with games, especially because then it limits the replayability over the years. But I do love the art style in this game, it’s a wonderful mix of realism and something like an oil painting (a slightly impressionist one too, which is a style I like). There’s been many times I’ve just stopped in the middle of what I was doing to admire the scenery.

It’s fun
The combat especially. There’s been more than a few times I’ve been genuinely excited during a battle not so much because of the end result as because the process itself is enjoyable. The combination of movement and the variety of attacks makes it exciting to play through even fairly routine fights. Although I much prefer it when a boss has special mechanics that make it distinct from normal enemies.

You pretty much said it for me here as well. I am constantly finding new things within the game that I enjoy looking at or discovering. For me it is the little touches everywhere that make this a brilliant game. I just started going through the book stalls in Divinity’s Reach and am enjoying finding some interesting and laughable books.

Another thing I have really enjoyed is when random folk just stop to help someone. I get pleasure out of helping someone as well. Some of the nicest conversations I have had were when we were waiting for an event to spawn. Generally if you ask in map chat for help, someone will kindly assist. Overall the community is just great.

I really enjoy the graphics and try to stop and look around as often as I can. Again, the small touches just really makes this game shine.

I think ANet does a great job of enticing folk into trying new things. Even if it was something I might not do more than once, I was glad I tried. I like the challenges. Some things took a lot of tries to master and gave me a huge sense of achievement. The rewards often are more than just loot (though that is nice, lol). Some folk like to jump to the end of the story right away. For me it is the journey that makes the story rewarding.

Bandit Skeleton Chests Farm?

The one big farm group I ran with about a week ago was a lot of fun. We stopped to help progress fort events as we went, got the bandit area, got a bunch of champs, did the Breach once it came up, and got a lot of chests all in between. All in all, the guild who was doing it did a very nice job organizing and whole thing felt well rounded because you were helping as you farmed the chests. My only sad was periodically I ran out of keys (oh, so many chests!) and had to find who was open nearby to sell some more so I could continue, lol.

I have been relogging and checking periodically and it still shows bugged on every IP I have gotten into. U.N.I.T. is bugged in the Inquest Room with Wistt just standing beside him as if he were just released from his prison and the event shows that U.N.I.T. still needs to clear the room. It has been like this for nearly a week now.

I know it is a known bug where folk kill everything too far in advance of U.N.I.T. causing him to bug out.

I like it, though, I can see folk who bought multiple everlasting harvesting tools screaming for refunds because now they have extras, lol. I have multiple of those but I also have more avies that don’t have kits so it is a pain to retrieve them when you need them. This would go a long ways towards solving that. Having a bag that shows in inventory account-wide that takes only account wide items would be very nice. Great idea +1 here as well.

If it was done as I have suggested before where in the hero tab there would be a tab for tools where the dyes/minis/equip/wardrobe/etc. If you have multiple tools of the same kind you could be allowed to get them switched for another tool skin. Then each toon would select the tool skin/animation that best fits them. Pretty much the way now you can put a check mark on the mini you want to use with that toon. Any extra after the skin swap would need a refund.

Also add functionality to infinite salvage tools so you can right click them and now have a option pop up that lets you select to salvage all white items or blue or green etc. and you would have like a check box beside each so you could select multiple choices once you click on the ones you want to activate you would hit a salvage button and every item you selected would go poof

I definitely like it!

It is not about the holidays. It is about ourselves and knowing we are all something special in the world. We make a difference, some in big ways, some in small ways but we all make a difference.

Spending a holiday alone is not a bad thing, make that holiday whatever you want it to be for yourself. Life is suppose to be ups and downs. It makes us appreciate even more what we have and the people we encounter in our journey through life. My mom used to say, “Do one good deed a day.” Smile at someone, open a door for someone, let someone go ahead of you in a line and you are doing your good day for the day.

Being sad is part of life as well, it is our humanity that allows us to be sad at times. But always look forward, tomorrow is another day as has been said before and it is so true. And as Elry says life gets better and you need to be there when it happens.

Happy holiday to everyone we are a community and together for the holidays. Say happy holiday at random to someone in GW2.

Just no. The Bell Choir is still hard. I’ve gone as far as doing everything you said before you even suggested it, and it was still ridiculously hard.

You say this. And other people have been saying it a lot. So I assume that it’s truth and you’re not all trolling. But I honestly can’t understand how you think that. For me, even the first time doing bell choir 2 years ago, it was ridiculously faceroll easy. I can’t even see the potential for difficulty or challenge in it. You don’t even have to be musically inclined… you just hit the right key when the orb gets to you…

Anyway. I think it’s understandable that Anet wouldn’t realise this might be a massive problem for some players.

It’s hard because the game does a very poor job at explaining how to do it. Once people realize how it works, it becomes easy.

I am not in the least musically inclined and, yes, I agree the explanation on how to do it is bad. You have to hit the right key once the orb gets into the blue circle you are standing in.

I managed it on an ergonomic split keyboard. It was not that easy for me but one trick I used was numbered stickies on my screen as I looked down on the keyboard. Also put your fingers on the 1-4 and 6-9 keys as if you were playing a piano. It made it a LOT easier for me as the orbs were coming down to hit the right keys.

It did take a while to get the timing down right and I died a lot at first but I did get better though I will never see a perfect round. This is something I don’t particularly enjoy but I now feel confident enough to do the daily in this. My hubby tried it and just got frustrated. It definitely is not for everyone and is very frustrating when it is not working for you. I tend to have a mindset that if I try long enough I will figure something out eventually.

Only thing I can say is look at what tips folk have on how to do it and if you can find any videos and try again. Sometimes that next try is the one where you get it.

When it comes to resource gathering I think it is too specific. it requires you to nearly cover an entire zone to find all the mats required. I didn’t think it was bad until I actually went out to complete it. I ended up having to check two zones just to gather ten logs. Maybe if was just logger or miner in general without sticking it to a single region would work better because then at least we’re not stuck to a specific area and we can work on while working on our own actual progression as well rather than being somewhere where we have no other business than to hunt for trees / ore. Or the flip side of that keeping it stuck to the region but allowing it to count for mining/foraging and logging. that still get’s us to travel to zones we might not otherwise go to which I don’t have a problem with.

I also think the single zone event completer is terrible. It took over an hour to complete 4 events because every time I found one by the time i got to it it was over; I don’t know how many times I had finally arrived and it just finished. I was trying to get an old player back into the game while doing these too and he just logged before we could even finish one because we weren’t accomplishing anything besides wasting time.
I think having the region event completer is good but narrowing it down to a single zone in my opinion is not.

I don’t mind the resource gathering because if you have the mining nodes in the daily home instance, those count for most the achieve. Anything that uses the mining pick seems to count. I mined crystals in the daily home instance and got credit along with the ore nodes. I did not try the candy corn note or the blade shard node but would assume those count as well. The plant nodes will count towards the plant achieve. I don’t have any lumber nodes but having one of those would certainly help. Even if they don’t finish a daily it takes no time to get the rest. Just pop out the nearest waypoint and the rest is usually well within reach.

I agree on the single zone event completion. It turns into a cast of thousands looking for events and finding something (unless it happens to be a frequently recurring event) can be difficult and be over before you get there. I got lucky on the Field of Ruins because I know the Ogre events spawn pretty quickly and often and is a good run to complete and, yes, it was jam packed seconds after the new daily popped up. A region event completer would be much better I think. I was even looking at the zone in the Wiki to see all the various events and try to find one that was maybe obscure enough that I could get to soon enough to do or one that I knew would repeat quickly enough that it was worth waiting around for a little bit. But that seems like a lot of trouble to have to go to just to find a danged event.

After nearly a week of the new dailies I have mixed feelings. Before I looked a the items on the list and did what I wanted more leisurely – I actually spent more time in-game while doing the dailies and other things I was interested in doing were intermixed with that. Now it does feel like a mad rush at least where the events are concerned just to get them done and out of the way. I do like the points we are getting for completing the daily and the chests are often applicable to what you are doing i.e. chest of plants for gathering plants, ore for gathering ore, wood for gathering wood – I did think those were creative rewards and like that one a lot.

I managed to do the achieve on an ergonomic split keyboard which originally I had thought would be impossible. I also put up small numbered sticky notes on my screen on each note bar and got them lined up in the arc so each time I got back on I was able to angle my camera so they more or less lined up again. It totally helped me as a totally non music player get enough notes that I was able to get the achieve. (I do believe someone put that out there as a hint last year). You do have to wait until the note gets down into the blue area before hitting the key.

Also I am not sure if there is any difference if you are on the high, low or middle as far as ease in getting through the songs. I thought the high and the low bits were easier than the middle, at least for me.

I have to agree with Vayne on this. It is nice to do these and get them out of the way and I do find the rewards more applicable to what you have done. I really like getting ore for doing a mining event, plants for a harvesting event. I think that is a nice touch.

Though I do find the daily for events in an area difficult to do (at least initially) as folk flood in and clear out nearly every event on the map quickly. I came in this afternoon and there were folk still begging to know what events were available for their daily. If there was a way of randomizing by giving player A Shiverpeaks events, Player B Ascalon events, Player C Kyrta events randomly it might parse out the numbers so maps are not quite so flooded.

I am sure this will have its ups and downs but for me it works. I get my daily done and if you would like more rewards, do the rest.

More Winter's Day - Less Junk Day

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

To me I think the Rewards of Winter’s Day are really half hearted, have really less to do with Christmas (if at all) and consist in like 50% of all times mostly only out of useless items, which are absolutely unrewarding.

I think it would be much better, if Anet would significantly reduce the amount of Winter’s Day Gifts by felt like 33%, if then the gifts would feel then also like 33% much more rewarding in terms of reward quality with things, that are actually really useful or have some other kind of value for the player somehow somewhere in the game.

There’s tons of things, that are plain stupid in the loot table of the Gifts, which are 100% useless and totally worthless garbage which only clusters your inventory full.
So I suggest and propose to make following changes to the Loot Table of Winter’s Day Gifts:

Removal

  • Fancy Holiday Tonic Cabinet (Move this item to the Wintersday Vendor for Socks)
  • Heirloom Toy Chest (its already in the Vendor, so why make some stupid RNG Loot out of it too, total pointless and waste of space for senseful rewards!)
  • Dragonite Ore
  • Empyreal Fragments
  • Bloodstone Dust (The game has already more than enough of this worthless junk, dont need more options that flood the game even far more with this junk faster than Mawdrey and Stars can eat that junk all up for also mostly unrewarding gifts, where you think to make just better bricks out of this stuff than to flush it away in the toilet that is Mawdrey/Star)
  • All the single Giver’s Recipes (Move them to the Winter’sDay Vendor for Socks, Hats, Sweaters ect.
  • All the Concquerors Kits & Selections (This stuff is just pointless clicking junk!!, Move just only the new Superior Sigil and Rune to the Vendor for Hats, Sweaters and Socks, no one needs minor or major versions of these runes)
  • Page of Winter’s Days Rituals… (Move it to the Vendor!!)
  • Unsafe Winter’s Day Gift (Remove it, move the Winter’s Day Weapon Skins to the Vendor for Socks)

Add to the Loot Table

  • 5-10 Random Tier 4-6 Materials
  • The Recipes for the Endless Winter’s Day “Minipet” Tonics
  • The Winter’s Day 2012 Minipets (Infinirarium Foostivoo ect.) (make them sellable)
  • 1-5 Random Lodestones
  • Laurel Bags (Rare or Exotic)
  • Weapon Skin Tickets for Winter’s Day Weapons (Exotic)
  • New Skritta Claws Bagpack Skin (as Beginning for the much wished by the Commmunity Skritt Skin Bagpacks – we have enough of Charrs and Quaggans, lets get started with Skritt Bagpacks) – sellable
  • Black Lion Keys (rare)
  • Black Lion Ticket Scraps (rare)
  • Recipes for Light of Dwayna and Shadow of Grenth
  • Ascended Crafting Materials, like Elonian Leather, Bolts of Damask ect to help reducing a bit the Grind for Ascended Equipment Crafting. Especially around Bolts of Damask!!!)

I think with “stuff” like this in the gifts it would feel alot more rewarding, with the replacing of the Loot table, each item in itself stays rare and valueable as the chances to get what you like get naturally lower to bigger the Loot Table is and so more variant things you can get from it, so lower is the chance for each item in itself to get it from the table. But the quality of the loot you’d get from the gifts, would be alot better, because everythign of it would be useful to the player.

The current loot table is again such a big sign for it, that Anet seems to fear about it, that they might over reward us, if the Loot Tables of such floods of gifts get too useful for the players.
The most easiest solution to this is to reduce simply the amounts of gifts that you give ot as rewards…
When i see, that a player can get easily after a Toycapolypse Run of 10 rounds far over 100 Giant Winter’s Day Gifts, then its an easy tell, that players will quickly get very annoyed from all the inventory blasting junk that you’d get out of those which is of absolutely no use for you most of all the time, once youve unlocked the recipes, the skins ect., especialyl when such thigns get so flooded, that they have absolutely no value (to the point that you can’t even sell them in the TP, as their value is lesser than 1 laughable copper basically)

Totally agree with this. I got tired very quickly of all the junk and have ended my Wintersday activities for this year. Half the stuff I am having to destroy because the TP is so flooded with this stuff it becomes unsaleable. At least let us salvage it for something useful. It just is not worth my time to have to deal with junk. The holiday just did not feel the same. I really enjoyed last year and had a lot of fun. This year felt like an obligatory grind for little to nothing of value. Lets not even go into the salvage the sweaters, hats and socks game….. I don’t even attempt the Wintersday Daily as I cannot do the jumping puzzle and the bells are beyond me.

New dailies, meet the zerg

While it’d be nice to have many concurrent quest threads in all the other zones, they’re tied to renown heart progress and such. Not to say they couldn’t be redesigned, but it’s an added difficulty into making them more cohesive with the zone, as it is with Silverwastes.

As I think about it more, it might be easier to simply give different dailies per player. Keep the task and reward the same (logger, events), but let the locations be different.

So, Player.1234 gets:
Ascalon Miner
Lornar’s Pass Events
Kill Jungle Wurm
(While I have my argument with the kill-a-world-boss daily, if it differed based on time of log-in so that it happened within the hour, or changed to Defeat a World Boss, that would be fine.)

while Player.1111 gets:
Shiverpeaks Miner
Kessex Hills Events
Kill Jungle Wurm

That would spread out the zerg quite a bit by shuffling them into dozens of zones instead of a single zone.

I got lucky on the Iron Marches events and was able to start from Monger’s Sink and proceed with a group through the area and got the events. The day before it was really hard finding anything in Queensdale because of the number of folk clearing events.

I do like the idea of randomizing dailies between players if that is even possible. I don’t really have a problem with kill a world boss since they cycle fairly regularly but casual or limited time players might have a problem with catching a specified boss during the time they are on.

It would be neat to have a mini scavenger hunt for a daily, find and read some books (and learn some lore/history), or locate and converse with one or more individuals (one person directs you to the next sort of thing). I have enjoyed finding interesting conversations throughout the world and one memorable one was following a golem in Metrica what was delivering messages to folk – some of the conversations/messages were hilarious especially if you followed long enough. I think folk would enjoy a bit more variety than events here, jumping puzzle there, slay that there.

If tonics were in the wardrobe (like finishers), I’d bother collecting them.

Good idea, we really need this.

Or at least let us sell the tonics to vendors for something. I so hate destroying tonics because the TP is so flooded they will never sell and I just do not have the inventory room for them. It is bad enough having to stash spare armor and foods let alone all the seasonal stuff you get that you might think you will use next year….

1380 hours. not. one. precursor. ever.

How many hours does a person have to play in order for that to be considered having “worked” for it? 1000? 2000? 3000? …

“…play in order for that to be considered having ‘worked’ for it” screams, I was here long enough so I am now entitled…. I see at no point where you “earn” a precursor that way. You either get really lucky or work to purchase one. Then more work to make a Legendary if that is your ultimate goal. I would love to see everyone be able to craft one some day and like Mawdry II I am sure it will take time, some tasks and a lot of perseverance. You have to decide if you want that precursor bad enough to either try the luck angle or work to buy it.

So how long does a person have to play to be considered having “worked” for it?

I have close to 300 gold, tons of mats, 6 L80s and 3 L60’s with inventories filled with loot. Filled. With. Loot. I never buy anything with gold off the TP and I never convert gems to gold. I have over 5000 AP. AND I KNOW THAT I AM POOR compared to others that have 20x the in game resources I have.

I grind the hard way. Have I earned it? Am I earning it the right way? Which is the “correct” way to earn? How long? You dodged the question. “Work to buy it” WTF are you talking about?

No clue what you are getting at. What is this about ‘earning?’ Earning the right for a precursor by ‘grinding the hard way’ whatever that is…

I play the game (read: do what I enjoy doing when I am in), I sell what I get carefully on the TP, salvage carefully what I need and plan for what goals I have in mind. I have 5 level 80s with two more professions to go that I have not even done yet. I got 15K AP and have barely done any dungeons or fractals. My gold fluctuates with what I have amassed and what I decide a character may need that I cannot craft or have in my inventory for them to use. Yet hubby bought me a precursor and I finally made enough to buy another one by myself. Now we are looking at our goals to make these Legendary.

There is no correct way to ‘earn’ something. Some are just better at it than others. Other just have the disposable income to buy and kudos to them. Some get lucky and yeah, I bought someone’s luck because mine isn’t as good as theirs. But I worked for the gold to do it so same difference earning something…. If Anet said you have to do this or that or just be in the game for so long to earn a precursor or a Legendary then there you go. But they haven’t so here we go, trying our luck, earning what we can and buying other’s luck.

The time it takes is up to each individual and how they set their goals and plan out the map to get there within the time they have to play the game. Asking someone to specify how long it will take you to earn your prezzie is silly – only you can answer that one…..

It would be nice if we could at least sell this stuff to a vendor, salvage, or collect and throw in Mystic Forge for something REALLY interesting. I got an excess Carapace Glove box that the most I can do with is destroy. I always feel I am wasting something when I do that, lol, and I hate wasting something I cannot use. I always feel I should be able to either give it to someone else, recycle etc. Must be a generational thing, LOL. I would love to see us have to figure out something creative to do with this stuff as well as a lot of the “trophy” stuff we amass throughout the game.

I dont know what stuff some of you guys are on. When I started this game at the very release the guild I was in was supposed to be casual yet players who thought of themselves as casual had gotten to 7500 achievement points in much less than a year if i mind right.

I have got 10k achievement points now from doing a huge variety of things in this game instead of grinding or farming the same or similar stuff for certain ingredients. There are many players of these games who just need to get a life outside it. Really. If you want to play this game with some sort of mad hard core philosophy or think casual means you only spend 5 hours a day every day fine but you only deserve a straitjacket not a legendary or anything else. I did play this game quite obsessively at start so im not immune to this either but i managed to get clean. Get the addiction out my system. I advise you all do.

The exception are people who are ill or disabled, who may be housebound and who just have more time anyway they are unable to fill otherwise and the game is a nice way for them to do it.

I may have only been playing MMOs for 8 years but the commenst that MMOS arent for me is so ignorant its unbelieveable. Its always the first comment that comes out when someone complains. If I could I would split at a moment to other newer mmo games but my computer sucks big time, my hardware and my windows vista 32 bit

Video games fullfill a lot of things for a lot of people. We each are responsible for ourselves and what we get out of the games. Yes, MMOs are not for everyone. If it frustrates you to the extent it affects your RL then, yes, it may not be for you.

We all have our own views and opinions as to what we would like to see in the game we have invested time in. That is a good thing. Letting the developers know what we want corrected and would like to see is also a good thing. Not getting an immediate answer does not necessarily mean they aren’t paying attention.

There is something for everyone in these games. Some things should take work for. Maybe for a casual player a precursor will take longer to get (either via luck or working to buy). The thing is everyone has a chance at them even if it takes a while. These days we live in a “gotta have it right now or I am going to die” kind of world which is a sad thing. There is a satisfaction in working towards something. Yeah, Mr. Brown over there got his Legendary in 3 seconds but who cares if he bought it, farmed to make it etc. and he is swirling and twirling it around. Ultimately it is about ourselves and what we want to make of the game and get out of it. Take joy in that, enjoy what you can, work for what you want and if the joy leaves, move on to explore something new. There are so many virtual worlds out there that have such marvelous things to discover every day. In a lot of ways it is the new art frontier.

You completely ignored my post and just spewed out the usual work for it lecture. Its a GAME!!! I work in real life. I have my priorities right.

And what you do think? That everybody with a legendary don’t work? Don’t have real life, with wife, kids, friends, stuff to do in the house, etc?

Legendary are super easy if you set it as a goal. OH it will be a long term goal if you casually playing a couple times per week. But this game is out for the last two years. In my guild we have a wide range of ppl with legendary. From the super hardcore with 10 legendaries, to the casual that took a year to finally craft his first legendary.

I don’t know for everybody else, but in my guild EVERY single person with a legendary right now all said at one time : Legendary? That’s way too much work for me, i’ll never do one. And guess what, 3, 6 months later they find out that they have most of the material, map completion, and they just need a bit of effort in a specific direction to craft it. They all did the same. I said the same thing when I started. I laughed at those legendary and the amount of stuff, and now 2 years later i’m working on my 5th.

Guild help a lot with the process btw. For the fun, tips and for the speed.

This – What Thaddeus says….

Games do reflect RL in that some things are just not easy to get. I got over 3500 hours in, do I feel entitled to a precursor or legendary or an easier way to get it because of that? No.

Until recently it was not something I was even particularly interested in. However, once I had accomplished the things in game I wanted and looked at a lot of my materials, I realized it could be another goal to work towards. Hubby and I eventually bought our precursors (another goal we worked towards over time) and are now working on the rest of the materials for the Legendary. It will not be overnight nor would I want it to be.

When I made Mawdry II I was so proud of the work and the patience it took for that. That is when I realized making a Legendary was doable. You set your goals, plan out your course and make your way to your goal. It doesn’t have to be a grind, you can deviate to do something else for a bit as well. RL works like that too.

Here are some locations for the alcohol for Thirst Slayer and it shows which are the Karma vendors. Keep in mind each drink counts as a certain number for the achievement progress. Karma alcohol is usually only 2 or 3 points. There are only 5 drinks that count 16 points towards the achievement and only one of those (Bottle of Sunken Wine) are bought by karma but that is very pricey. (I think that is also one of the collectible wines).

New Player Crafting

in Players Helping Players

If you ever want to make a legendary weapon, then crafting is required. Also getting the best gear/weapons in the game are needing the highest level of crafting (ascended/crafting level 500). In essence you dont REALLY need them in order to function in the game but once your lvl 80 with all exotic gear, you’ll wish you had started early. The other good thing about crafting now is that your crafting level also levels your actual characters level. Ive gotten two of my 80’s from 1-80 through crafting. Of course, this was earlier in the game where getting a craft from 1-400 got you 10 levels.

If you plan on doing it for levels i use Gw2hub.com. Theyre a bit more expensive than other guides but theyre the most concise from my experience.

-Side note- If you plan on doing any crafting put in buy orders, instead of buying it instantly, it will save you alot of money in the long run. Trust me

If you need any other help in the game please feel free to friend me and wsp me anytime, ive been crafting since i started two years ago.

Really good tips here.

I took my time crafting and had a lot of fun doing it, especially if I made something that sold for a nice chunk of gold.

Marmatt is right about http://www.guildwars2hub.com/crafting It has a lot of good info and will get you started on crafting easily. I enjoyed discovering recipes and eventually went out seeking where I could get other recipes around Tyria.

Another tip is to check the recipes you get and make sure the avie that has that crafting profession uses that recipe. Recipes are not account bound (yet at any rate…) so you do have to be careful with that. Nothing like using a neat 400 level insignia recipe you got and then realizing only a tailor could make that and you don’t have any avie with a tailoring profession yet…lol.

Try not to feel like you have to grind to get there. I did do that for the Mawdry backpack and burned myself out a bit – I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had taken my time. Do a bit at a time, put in buy orders to save some money where you can. Salvage for materials. Ultimately I enjoyed the crafting process and was able to finish all of them and I do feel I accomplished something. I recently made an ascended armor set that I am very proud of and hubby recently bought me Rodgort’s Flame (precursor) so now I am going for my first Legendary.

Good luck if you decide to craft, you will feel proud of your accomplishments the first time you make a nice set of armor for yourself or a weapon you just love.

Getting Extra Jumping Distance?

I also found it was easier on my human and char avies. For some reason the sylvari (and on a lot of the other jumping puzzles) was really awful on the sylvari ranger for me but eventually I managed it. For the longer distances, if you can put swiftness on and also hold the forward key as you jump it may get you more distance. Though a lot of it is timing on knowing when to let up on the key so you do not overshoot or undershoot something. For things like spokes, like Dante said, try from the inner part and aim a bit towards the outer which may give you a slightly better/larger area to land on then just jumping straight at it. My first try was with the sylvari and it took me a long time to get that one. Since then I have done it two other times and it was much easier. Keep trying, you will eventually get it. Take your time on each jump and move your camera (yeah I know how that sucks, lol) to get the best angle you can before jumping. Good luck to you. I am not sure what videos are out there on this particular one, but if there are it helps to watch a few to see exactly where folk are jumping from and to on each spoke.

Prior to this puzzle while running around Silverwastes, I kept looking up and wondering if we would ever get up to the upper cliffs and we finally were able to! An added bonus would be nice if you got some sort of credit for exploring into niches here and there or finding a bit of a story to follow within the area but not necessarily tied to the jumping puzzle.

I don’t think folks doing a taxi dance is what causing the LFG to do the pee pee dance right now. That started with this last update where the refresh is at an insane rate. Folk who are trying to get into a group would simply cause an advertised group to disappear once full. I am seeing a lot of folk trying to join a group but because of the insane refresh rate accidentally filling groups which close and then they leave to try to get into correct groups. LFG needs a hotfix like ASAP.

As fast as the LFG tool is refreshing I am assuming folk are trying to join a group, clicking and getting the wrong group and then dropping out once they realize it. And once the group is full it drops from the list. The refresh is so fast right now it is hard to make sure you click on the right group before it bounces again…. It is like playing whack a mole trying get into the correct group…. Hopefully they will get this fixed soon.
