Also please note that limit on Labyrinth maps seems to be much lower. Instance that was “full” had a rather small group running (and everyone was on the commander). Maybe that was done to reduce lag?

I was wondering that myself. I finally got into a “full” instance only to note a lot less folk there than I expected. If no one has a tag up the map looks empty. Look for LFG with organized group going. I found those the best to find the larger groups. They do fill fast and you have to be patient if it says full and keep trying. I got into most groups that were full after about a minute or so.

I would like all the collectible items like this to be able to drop into Mystic Forge in hopes of other items even it were only items for other collections. At least it is nice we can sell them but I would like to see the chance of getting some of the rarer collectible items via Mystic Forge as well.

It may also have to do with your level. The New Player Experience now has the Personal story in blocks. Perhaps you are too low a level for that block?

Since there are recipes, etc. in the buried chest it is worth farming for the geodes if you want them. The Uncanny Achievement you need an item that comes from those chests – Twister in a Jar. The gilded strongbox in those buried chests can often hold some nice items too. It is definitely worth the time to farm for geodes to get lockpicks, after all, it is only costing your time and not money.

I am sure Anet could figure a way to satisfy farming to some extent. For example they could set up something like a Queen’s Arena for farmers where they can go round and round and round for their champs. Throw in the occasional interesting reward or some interesting achievement for that interesting reward in addition to the regular stuffs and there you go…

But they have. Go to Cursed Shore. Or run the champ train in Frostgorge. Or do any of the other dozen world event chains.

But no, those aren’t good enough are they? Because you can’t stand in one place to do them.

Sadly there will always be an element that wants to stand still whack away and get tremendous rewards for minimal effort. Combine that with a sense of entitlement and you get exactly this…..

The more folk that help get the tier as high as possible the cheaper the cost in geodes, plus you earn them as you do that. Then once the dust storm starts any event gives you some very nice geode rewards. Definitely easier to farm geodes.

It would be neat to have future events where we help with the reconstruction of the city.

I do not see the residents removing the remnants of the Breachmaker, the pieces are too huge and are now part of the landscape as are the gouges and readjusted terrain…. I would rather see them utilized in interesting ways much like what was destroyed was an interesting conglomeration of ships etc. that followed the natural contours of the land. It could also open some interesting small story lines to follow – maybe have some hidden achievements for finding someone and following their story over a period of time.

All I would say is never try and “direct traffic”. Trying to get them to see the game through your eyes is doomed from the start (been there, tried it, never works). Let them play the game how they want to and just follow on behind

Pretty much this. I got hubby interested in trying out Guild Wars 2 and followed him around initially and helped only when he was stuck and asked for help. He had never played any MMOs or such before so it was a totally new experience having to learn how to move an avatar. He found his own stride and is absolutely loving it. I will say, though, when he first logged on and ran into a wall for 5 straight minutes I laughed until my sides hurt….

I agree with you that all people should use some courtesy, however I don’t agree that farmers should “designate” time. That is implying that there is a clear perception of “ownership” or that they have some authority to do such a thing. It’s pretty easy really, people who want to progress their living story or work on an achievement tied to a certain event always take precedence since successful completion is the only way to achieve that goal. Farmers can farm at any event, the only thing that is affected for them is how much loot they get, not whether or not they farm entirely.

I did not intend for that to come across as implying any sort of ownership on the part of the farmers. I meant more that folk be more flexible when someone else comes along and honestly states they need to complete an achievement. It was just a suggestion to put aside a bit of time so that the story completers could get their stuff done – at least it is meeting someone halfway. It always bothers me when folk get told to just go find another map – that implies ownership… Courtesy and acknowledging those folk have a goal is really the key thing. As you said, farming can be done at any event, often it is a lot harder to get the story done.

The game is designed so that everyone gets a share of the event rewards from participating in the event. If you contribute to the event you get your share of the rewards. He is entitled to start any event and finish any event. He cannot stop you from getting those rewards if you fight with him. Those events are not your preserve and if you want to do them then you can help him do them. If you want to do them ‘your way’ then wait for them to respawn. If you gave him verbal abuse then it was not surprising he was inconsiderate towards your game play.

The scaling of events to include champions with purses is a game mechanic and not a reward principle. It is a not a game problem if individuals complete events with the scaling that is correctly appropriate for them.

Nowhere did I indicate I gave any verbal abuse. I was just a witness to what was going on. I acknowledge he could play how he wanted, others on the map certainly didn’t feel that way. For the individuals who want to “play their way” that is fine too, even if it is obvious they are out to harass other’s play styles which in what little he did say, he acknowledged that was his goal. When I encountered that and the toxic chat I just went off and did something else till it was over. I did not feel I should be forced from the map either by the behaviors and I felt both parties were behaving badly. It wasn’t the bulk of the farmers, it was only a couple of toxic people who kept at it. Also there is no point in feeding the fire on something like this, there are no winners so I stayed out of it. Besides, there were plenty of other things to do until it all calmed down. A lot of folk just stayed quiet and waited for stuff to respawn. Getting a loot bag is not the be-all, end-all anyway, but it obviously is for some.

Alright, two things….

1. The fact that failing an event is more rewarding than completing it is a problem in and of itself. It is not the players fault, it is just horrible game design and I don´t understand why a-net doesn´t change it. And by that I do NOT mean increasing the time until events start, or removing loot from mobs, I mean ACTUALLY making completing events more profitable. Until this happens you can´t really blame people for trying to farm these events in the most efficient manner.

2. There are ALWAYS jerks on both sides of the argument, but that doesn´t mean all farmers are griefers, or similarly all people trying to complete such an event are griefers. From personal experience I can say that most people farming these events are nice, helpful and civil people, but they remain mostly silent. The ones that are vocal are unfortunately the jerks that are trying scare the “uninitiated” of the map/away from the events by insulting and harassing them. These people should be reported and warned/banned for a couple of days, no question about that. BUT, on the other side you also have people that harass and insult the farmers. Some of them actively seek to set the whole map up against the farmers, not because they actually want to complete the event, but because they take personal pleasure in ruining the farm for the others. They should be treated similarly to the griefers on the farmers side because they are doing the same thing: Insulting and harassing other players, therefore, report them if they say inappropriate stuff in map/say/whisper chat and hope they get a warning/ban.

Period.

Well said. The griefing comes when people start making attacks in map chat or whispers. No matter which direction that comes from, it deserves to be reported.

And I do believe Anet will fix this event. People (on both sides) wont be happy with that fix, but it will be needed to quell the hate were seeing.

I have seen the griefing go both ways on the map and both are definitely wrong. They will end up nerfing any champ farming in the end by their behavior. Yesterday I was doing the Frostgorge champ train and one individual was dedicating himself to making sure the coil succeeded to thwart the coil farmers and then came over to the champ train and took things down before others could get there. Obviously he got satisfaction out of messing with folk, but the chat just kept inciting him. He did not really reply to anyone but was obviously feeling very validated by the constant toxic comments a few were making. The rest of us ignored him and he finally left.

Everyone needs to use some courtesy. No one should be told to go find another map. I do feel that if someone is on the map trying to complete an achievement and says so, the nice thing to do is everyone helps the person through to their achievement and then they can go back to farming. Usually there are not that many coming in over a period to time asking to do that. If anything the farmers can designate one time every hour they will complete the event for any achievers and put it out that they are doing just that. Everyone wins and gets to play “their way.” I think there would be a lot less angst and strife if both sides would work to help each other out.

Yesterday Grit appeared above where the Broodmother spawns. We were actually making progress on the adds and Grit until Tootsie showed up and then she hung up attacking Grit the adds and us and not breaking away at all. You could not seem to damage Tootsie either and then the Broodmother came over and it was one vast melee with the three fighting it out with more adds spawning as it went. It was absolutely impossible to complete this event much less damage any of the three.

If it happens again I have to make sure to take a screen shot because you really had to see it to believe it. I was laughing at how wild it suddenly got but not happy that it was so impossible to even attempt to take Grit down.

Happened again today, though we had more folk and managed to finally take Grit down.

When I saw the requirements for a backpack, I took a deep breath and thought, maybe I may not do this one. But once I had made the first one and then the second, I decided, what the heck, this could be something interesting to at least try. It took some planning regarding the materials and some I had to refine which is also something I had never done before.

I had not tried fractals or dungeons up to this point and had no plans on even trying until Mawdrey. I read up on the fractals in the wiki and on other sites and tried to be careful about picking groups for fractals and looked for ones that said everyone welcome or for noobs etc. and I found good groups and some really great people. Once we did get the bugged Cliffside but everyone was a good sport on that run.

Ninetynine percent of this is simply putting the effort and thought into completing the tasks to get to the end goal. I did learned some things from the folk I did them with and that makes it a plus as well. I actually had a good time doing fractals, though I doubt it would be something that would be a regular event for me, who knows I could change my mind on that one, lol…

All in all I liked that there was a lot of variety and we had to do a thing or two outside the box to get this piece. I never expected easy. What I hated the most was the Foxfire gathering for me which was a pain. The upside to that, though, was going through areas collecting higher level mats which I will use for other things now. Also I am helping hubby where I can because not all his crafting levels are high enough to make the plant food or the pot.

It doesn’t look like Mawdrey is going away anytime soon so anyone should be able to craft this if they desire and take their time doing it. No one is making us do this nor did I feel it was unreasonable in any aspect. It was a bit frightening to start fractals especially when you hear the horror stories about some groups. But once I started I realized if you are right up front that you may be new or not done this one before etc. and if the group wants someone experienced, don’t take it personal, just say your byes and look for another group.

I have only seen the first event once and we defeated Sol Eater – that wasn’t too bad but no one does the Dust Monster one. You can never seem to kill the minions much less harm the monster so a lot of people ignore that event.

Also found this on Reddit which lists some more rare monsters. They must spawn at certain tier levels only..

The fractal has a random group of 4 events that are done for that fractal. I joined one group for the last two events (I guess someone dropped out half way through) and I still got agony infusions and the Pristine Relic at the end. So I guess you are not penalized if you join one midway through.

If folk are advertising doing the daily, the ones I have joined are doing the entire fractal not just one of the events. I have seen folk advertising to do just one event (think it was the swamp one) and they may be working on an achievement.

I have gotten Agony Infusions midway through but the Pristine Relic always comes at the end. You will get Fractal Relics throughout as you go.

Some runs are rougher than others. My fourth run was harder. We wiped a lot but everyone was nice and we kept at it until we got it. If someone in the group quits, just advertise for someone else. I looked for groups that were either level 1, everyone welcome or noobs ok. I stayed away from the ones with little to no info and the experience yada, yada ones. Overall my experience was very good and the folk I did them with were outstanding.

Actually because of doing this, I started looking for and doing some of the dungeon runs and so far that has been a lot of fun. I guess you have to just pick the groups, go in and let them know you are a noob or have not done the path before and if they say they are looking for experience or something else, just say ok and leave the group. You can always find one more suited and you certainly shouldn’t take it personal if a group doesn’t work out. Everyone has a bad day….

Aerinndis.2730

Check out Dulfy’s guide. You will have to complete parts 1 and 2 to get the necessary items to start crafting the first backpiece.

You start with Part 1 to craft the initial Mysterious Vine backpiece by getting items from the stories you complete. Making the first backpack also gives you a Cultivated Seed you need for the second one.

http://dulfy.net/2014/07/29/gw2-mysterious-vine-backpiece-guide/

At the end of Party Politics you get a Chaos Orb for this second backpack that you use in the next clay pot you make or buy. You also get additional items during the various story sections that you need to enhance by visiting other areas around the world. Ultimately you end up with the Cultivated Vine Backpiece.

http://dulfy.net/2014/08/13/gw2-cultivated-vine-backpiece-guide/

If you want the Ascended, there is a lot more to do. Which involves going around the world collecting items and doing Fractals for the Pristine Fractal Relics used for this piece.

http://dulfy.net/2014/08/13/gw2-mawdrey-ascended-backpiece-and-pet-crafting-guide/

It is definitely doable. I just finished Mawdrey/Mawdrey II yesterday. A bit of planning and work make this possible. I never did fractals before but if you look in LFG section for any postings that have everyone welcome or doing level 1 with noobs those ended up being some really nice groups and I had a pretty good time. Once or twice we kept wiping at a boss but we kept at it and figured it out and it really felt good when we defeated him. It turned out harvesting the Foxfire was the grindiest part of the whole thing. I really liked the variety of things you had to do and places you had to go to put these backpieces together.

Did my last fractal today and made my Mawdrey which I love. Mawdrey II is also very cute and very hungry. Sure hope it doesn’t do a Tamagochi on me if I fail to feed it, lol.

I do have to say this was actually enjoyable to do with the variety of things you had to collect or make to do this. While fractals may not be my favorite thing to do, I learned a lot with the ones I did, got some nice loot and did not feel that that part of it was much of a grind. Foxfire now that was a grind, lol.

Fractals you have to take with a grain of salt. Everyone I met was pretty nice, did see some who quit, I assume in frustration, but overall it was not a bad experience. In several we had to work hard to complete the fractals but everyone stuck it out and we eventually did. I think that made me feel that it was more of an achievement than if it had been easy.

Overall very interesting experience and definitely worth it. For me this one was a winner.

Yes, I bagged using the crystals for getting up – too much trouble to do it with the mobs around and then trying to get out of the aspect and back to weapon skills was also a pain. I usually ran past the mobs and back up that ramp. There are spots there you can range him and still have room to maneuver when he shoots bombs. Actually when that event starts, instead of dropping down to the main floor you can look over and down from the cliff to the part where the ramp goes up. Just jump down there so you are in position right when the next part starts rather than having to make your way over to the ramp or up on one of the platforms through the mobs. That alone helped a lot.

I did not like this fight much nor the one outside Fort Salma – They were something to endure for me. I had to help hubby through those two – he got very frustrated with the mechanics on both of those.

If you see me on, give me a yell, I will certainly come help out.

Not very nice to call someone ‘bad’ when you don’t even know where Dulwitch is having issues. A constructive comment is better than, “Oh you must be bad… and I am so good I did it the first time…” That being said, Cornered can be difficult for some. I had to help my husband through it, but it can be soloed.

I am assuming you are referring to the last fight as being difficult. You do need to use ranged weapons and don’t worry about fighting the junk on the ground NPCs will do that. Concentrate on avoiding the circles laid down. I got over to the big platform in the middle and was able to do a lot there. If you fall or get knocked down (I did a lot) run through the mobs or see if you can use a crystal to get back up on one of the platforms. Once he gets invulnerable go through the sun aspect crystals and run at him to break that protection. Then you can continue to damage him, rinse and repeat till he is down. My first time took what felt forever and I was knocked down or died a lot. But once you get used to the mechanics (I did it over 6 avies and different professions) Some were able to do it easier than others. You should use stability where you can that helps with getting knocked off.

Don’t hesitate to ask in map chat to see if anyone will help out. You can also post in LFG to see if anyone else wants to do it. Post where you are having issues, a lot of folk have good hints and tips on getting through this stuff.

I did catch a glimpse of a giant in the Toxal Bog when leaving the Dry Top entry area. It was just labeled “Giant.” Alas it died before I could get to it as I was RP walking and didn’t toggle in time, so I don’t know if it counts towards the achieve.

It made me think they might have added more giants, though. Have they?

Toxal Bog giant does indeed count and is easy to kill solo. It is part of the Help Unit find and destroy the Inquest event. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Help_U.N.I.T._find_and_destroy_the_Inquest

Check the notes at the bottom of the page which explain that you can get up to 4 giants and possibly more depending on how many are doing the event.

I do wish the risen giants would also count. I think there is Nageling giant, Kol Skullsmasher up in Harathi, the Toxal Bog one and now the Sand Giant that very few do now because he takes so long…..slim pickings….

I just got finished with all of the steps to create this lovely little creature. When I first found out about it my first thought was “ooh a pretty plant for my Sylvari Mesmer!” So that was my motivation.

The first parts were admittedly a little tedious and kinda boring, but then I got up all of the components to make it and that was when I got my first taste of connection to it. Crafting this took me to several maps and I got to revisit old places I did with friends/guildmates back in the day. Needless to say it was a trip down memory lane, and while I was meandering down that lane I ran into some people doing what I was doing.

This is where it gets a little weird for me, as I am generally a solo player (now that my old guild fell apart due to internal reasons), I whispered one of the people who seemed to be having trouble. Along the way we ended up having to do all the escort and pre-events to all the mini puzzles and such. This person and I ended up partying up! I had so much fun doing it too and we ended up with a large group toward the end. We decided to not just stop at the components. We finished the whole thing, cheering each other on, helping each other figure it out.. for the first time in awhile I put down my Solo player mentality and opened up to find that despite my run ins with some bad seeds (pun intended) recently, this game and its community are filled with awesome people!

It made me stop focusing on my end goal for once, and instead I ended up just having a lot of fun. The journey to get there was just as rewarding as the end product! I’m glad I didn’t let the daunting task of its steps prevent me from accomplishing this.

tl;dr: I love this aspect of creating an item! It not only attached me to the item (and the little shop of horrors homage tugs on my nerdy side), but also it gained me a couple new friends. I generally enjoyed my time making it and now I am proud to have done it. Thank you ANet, whoever dreamed this up is really on to something!

I am working towards just this. I have most of what I need and today ran my first fractal with some absolutely awesome folk. I feel so much better about fractals now. The posting was level 1, everyone welcome, but they did ask for a commitment to stay through the entire time which was just fine for me. Two of the folk knew the fractals we were doing and I had been reading up on them which helped. I enjoyed my time and time passed pretty quickly and we had a lot of fun. (plus the loot was pretty good) Definitely going again until I get what I need for Mawdrey.

I am also helping hubby out on the crafting side where I can because he does not have his levels up in some areas (mainly for the plant food). Plus I have the recipes and I don’t think he ever got them.

I also enjoyed the re-exploration of some areas I had not gone back to for a while.

So, yes, Anet, thanks for an interesting way to craft this. It has made me step out of my comfort zone a bit and expand. I may not do fractals on a regular basis but I am certainly not sorry I have tried them.

In Profile Properties did you make sure you specified the GW2.exe file? There is also a box to check to lock that profile while the game is running.

The help file (click on the question mark at lower right) also has what you need to get it running. I also believe there is a button near where you save a new profile that also scans for new games.

maudrey is familiar

so perhaps this will date me, and perhaps it’s been said before and i didn’t see it. but..
there is a movie from 1986 called little shop of horrors. in that movie, a plant is grown by feeding it human blood. once it gets bigger, it eats humans. it’s name was audrey…

this new back piece is grown and turns into maudrey.. who needs bloodstone dust to survive..

As a random trivia, the 1986 movie was the movie version of a 1982 broadway musical, which was based on a low budget 1960 horror movie also called “Little Shop of Horros”…

The 1960 movie had a young Jack Nicholson as the pain freak too – video quality is bad but still funny:

Hopefully Maudrey won’t do this:

Foxfire Cluster stealth adjustment?

Made the rounds of Frostgorge, Malachor, and Curse shore on three avies and noticed a lot less trees around post patch. Prior to that I ran across a lot more trees and orichalum nodes. Also getting less foxfire clusters than I have previously. There is a full moon out there so maybe that is it, lol…

Good job. I did enjoy this very much. Nice cliff hanger at the end and can’t wait until this starts up again. Though I was wondering where Logan was…. he is usually puppy dogging the Queen. Wonder if she is losing her mesmerizing touch with him….lol.

He had to stay home and take care of their baby.

… xD

Oh, yes! Lil LoJen…..lol!

i found out about the thamanova after i typed this so take that off the list.
i died five times trying to get into vexas lab what is that 6 or 8 simple jumps. im telling you jp arent my thing i got inside the last time i did it and got booted never got past the first part.
im still looking for a port to that one in frostgorge i got pretty far and quit due to fustration. i rarely can do easy jp’s and anything with any jumping skill ill never do without help
i understand i just wont do and probably end up deleting the items before i could finish one backpack. im a skin person but i have my doubts ill finish it uinless i come across nice people thatll help me out. the thing i got guildmates who do help in a lot of stuff but when it comes to jp’s im sick of asking for it.

and yes before anyone else says it i know its optional but id like to have the skins in my wardrobe at least

I do understand the jumping bits – not a big fan of them overall even if I have managed to get some of them down so to speak. Frostgorge one is a pain because of all the trash shooting at you. Don’t hesitate to ask in map chat that you are having difficulty and ask if anyone would be willing to assist in porting. There are a surprising number of very nice folk who will help you out.

Vexa’s lab, one trick is to just stay on the rims and work your way around. The bit with the roaming robots is definitely harder, again you want to stay on the rims and keep moving until you get over to the end. That part you won’t die if you fall down at least. Right now there are a lot of folk doing these puzzles so try asking for assistance and see if you can get it done that way.

I really liked those beetles. Reminded me of dung beetles. Definitely would be a good pet.

From what I heard on map chat, you need to have the backpiece with you

One of my alts has the back piece and I was playing with my main avie and I got it with no problem.

It was not clear what to do when I first got there and a lot of folk were jumping up (and falling a lot) to the top of the building and then someone said we needed to get the matrix key to get down to the Steam Golem so we could then charge our orbs. After that it was easy.

I suspect Taimi will get her revenge on Phlunt… After all she has shown her skills are far above what he can do. I suspect Phlunt simply did what most other asurans do – appropriate. Now if he tries to “improve” the device I am willing to bet he will have to come crawling to Taimi to get it fixed.

Pet Seed?

Got my pot and posted over in bug forum regarding my now Pet Seed. Will wait until it is fixed before proceeding. I have to make more Meaty Plant food anyway and work on getting the exotic luck so will be working on that while they work on their end to fix this.

the new backpiece items require you to do jumping puzzles which i guess ill never get i hate jumping puzles and so sick of making a mesmer friend come around to help me through them

If you are meaning Thamanova reactor – no real jumping there. That one you need to get the keys to so you can get to the Steam Ogre and charge your orb as well on that platform. I will say that one was incredibly non-intuitive. Lot of folk jumping up as far as they could get on the roof before someone mentioned you needed the keys to open the portal to the Steam Ogre. Then it was a doh moment.

Vexa’s lab isn’t so much a jumping puzzle as you can run along the rims while avoiding the bots to get to the other side. Right now there are plenty of folk fighting Vexa so getting that one is pretty easy. If you fall off the rims just swim to the ramps and climb up again. Rinse and repeat until Vexa is gone. The area to charge the orb is up one of the ramps. It may be possible to do that during the fight but not sure.

Foxfire cluster one was just finding the pollen rich zepher in Aurora’s Remains – very easy to find if you have ever done that one. Small bit of jumping over some shrooms but nothing difficult. All that is doable.

Main issue now for me is my seed turned into a Pet Seed which is a bug. ANet is aware and looking at that one. So just making Meaty Plant food and working on my exotic luck until they fix that.

cultivated seed swapped with pet seed

I made the back piece few days ago. Seed was in my bank and not in inventory. Back piece is on another alt who has not done the story (my warrior has done the stories). Just finished getting the Foxfire germinated cluster, resonating chaos orb, and pile of crackling leyline dust. I moved the seed to inventory and noticed it became a Pet Seed. I have not made any pot yet though (still figuring out what I need to do for that).
** just finished the chaos infused clay pot but have not gone any further than that.

Can foxfire be a crafting material for bank?

I have been wondering if those Foxfire clusters will need to be used for the Cultivated Seed in the next step for the back piece. Wiki says, “The first seed cultivated and produced by your own hand. To cultivate this specimen to be even better than the last, perhaps another type of magically infused clay pot is necessary.” If so we really should have space in the crafting bank for those. I am saving the ones I have found so far after crafting the back piece just in case.
