Definitely something different when I tried it and died. I always slide down the right side and get caught on one of the rocks before making it the rest of the way down. Never have I died there but this time wham!. My next try I went little bit left of that just avoid the rock and made it ok. I found the dark room was way darker than I remembered it as well.

Remove WvW from map completion

I found the PVE map WAY more boring to complete than WvW. My third round of completion I ran and got all the waypoints and poi and areas you needed to find as well and doing the odd hearts to level up as I went on all the maps. Then I went back and filled the rest of the hearts and/or any events I needed. It did help change it up enough so I was encouraged to get through the PVE portion. The first time I did the WvW it was OMG but I got it done and it did take a while because I did it here and there as I was doing the PVE maps and not really knowing what I was doing in WvW. Second and third times I ripped right through it. So lot is attitude about what you are doing and let’s face it… How badly do you need it yesterday? I was probably more satisfied the first time even though I had to wait for rotations etc. I found the struggle worth it in the end and certainly more rewarding the first time. But at least I had an idea the second and third times through the WvW parts so it was one heck of a lot easier.

Reducing the requirement? No. No way.

There has to be a less grindy way to do the achievement. But it should not be making it easier by having to kill less of that enemy.

Instead, when they add the Crystal Desert, they should adkitten y more giants.

And actual giants. With two eyes, and tusks/horns. Not these cyclops posers we have in GW2.

Elona had most of the giants in the game in several spots:

  • Crystal Desert. (part of Prophecies, but still Elona)
  • The Desolation
  • Vabbi

The rest were spread in a few spots of Kryta and the Shiverpeaks.

Remember the Bull Trainer Giants?

Those appeared all over one corner of a map. Lots of them with their huge minotaur pets.

That’s the way to go. Make them the more prominent creature in a new map, once it’s added, like ogres in Fields or Ruin or Centaurs in Harathi Hinterlands.

Same with plants.

GW2 only has three types of plant enemies: Sylvari, Tree Hearts and Husks.

And as enemies, most sylvari and husk count as nightmare court.

Now look at the plant-type enemies in GW1:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Plant

Where are all the stalkers, and seeds, and thorn wolves, and ibogas and jaracandas and…

As with giants, they should make some more plant type enemies, and when they make new maps, put them there. But unlike giants, they should also sprinkle some plants in the rest of the game. A few Aloe Seeds here following a veteran moss heart and healing it when you attack it, a few Reed Stalkers popping from the reed by a swap…

But reducing the achievement requirement? No. No way. More monsters, same killing.

I would definitely agree with you if ANet would add more killable giants in other areas or include ones like risen or but as it stands now, with the so few they allow for the achieve I think this is one achievement they need to rethink or retool for the number because of the resources available to kill. Out of all the slayer achieves the giants have the fewest available so it comes done to a ratio of what is available so time-wise makes this one a very, very long term one to get in relation to all the others.

I loved the Fen story and no way would want to kill him for any achieve…

What a disappointment.

GW2 target group are the teens and youngster and that a lot.

Good luck getting success from a target group that is both in the minority (age group wise) and generally lacking money.

Even ANet is not that stupid.

GW2, with its B2P + cash shop is aiming at the 30+ PC gamers (which are the majority of PC players) who have jobs, families and generally too little time and too much money on their hands.

My experience is quite a few of the lower age target groups get monies from parents and grandparents….trust me some of these kids get more to spend than you or I from mommy and daddy…. For those who don’t – work to pay for your RL expenses (those come first), ask for gem cards as gifties for birthdays and holidays, and if this game means that much, cut back on unnecessary expenses like smoking (bad habit anyway) snackses (nother non healthy habit), etc. to finance your gaming fun. Anyone can look at what monies they got, keep a daily log of what they spend and see where they put money they really could save towards what they want to do RL or virtualwise. Most don’t though but they complain to high heaven how they are disenfranchised somehow.

For the 30+ players (I am definitely one) I worked, earned, budgeted and planned for what I have and what I choose to allocate or not allocate to this game money or time-wise. For those of us who have jobs, families and the time to do it, we figured it out. We get the best of RL and GW2Life. Anyone can figure out how to balance what they have and budget for what they want whether it is RL or for something in the virtual world. If you are that destitute you should not be playing this game but should be playing the game of RL instead.

So about those giants...

I think I am somewhere around 65ish giants killed. I do think the number required, considering the scarceness of giants, is too high. Even 250 would take a bit of time to accomplish but at least I would feel it was doable.

I try to get over to Brisban as often as I can to get that giant but rarely see anyone else around to do that one, considering it will spawn multiple giants if you have more than one person present. I am not too sure how many actually know of that one either. I found it out by reading Dulfy.net.

They should drop that one down to a lower number based on the availability of giants to be killed. The other slayer categories have a goodly number you can find to slay in contrast. So they should definitely figure a better ratio for that one than a generic 1000 killed per species. Rarity should count for something.

Like Thirst Slayer – 100,000 drinks….sheesh…took me forever to get to 2500…. Even with Elixir of Heroes counting that one also could be lowered to something that you definitely work to achieve but isn’t so outrageous. Maybe get the slayer with a certain reasonable amount and give a special title/reward for the 100,000.

Remove WvW from map completion

If you wait for a zerg and run with it for little bits of time, you will level up incredibly fast in WvW especially with a good commander. My first map completion I did not do WvW at the time and just watched for the low population times for the opposing servers and snuck or ran past guards and got what vistas and waypoints that I could. At that time the map rotation was very slow so I started running with zergs to get into some of the towers and keeps I needed and for the rest I waited on the rotations. Eventually I got everything and figured out some things about WvW and how to follow a commander. The other two times I have done map completion on my other avies it took barely a week to run through WvW since I do go in regularly now. I have learned to enjoy it a lot more, found my fighting skills actually got better and I got to know who to follow that would get me into the keeps and towers I wanted more quickly.

If you have friends who do WvW ask them what commanders they like and go in when they are on, follow them and pay attention to their instructions. Most likely you will get your completion a lot sooner than you think and probably a heck of a lot of loot to boot…

It took me many, many tries to do the Breached Wall but once I learned the tricks you can blast through it pretty quickly. This is one that once you get it, you really do feel like you accomplished something. It does sound like you may need to level up a bit more to try it. Possibly a lot of folk are on other maps or in WvW so you are not seeing too many in this area right now. Maybe ask in Gendarren where lot of folk hang out and see if someone will go with you. Your best bet is when there is a jumping puzzle for the daily and right now there is the monthly so folk will be wanting to get those out of the way.

A lot of the mobs you can run right by so you don’t really have to fight all that much. One good tip is when you get to the two arches you have to leap from the first arch to the second (this is where I had the most trouble) inch down to where you can see a line as the first arch curves down and then jump to the second arch from there. I now get it nearly every time now but it was one of my biggest frustration points. Also if you fail, you land on a ledge just below so hop over the small gap and back up the rubble to the first arch again – no need to start over and no mobs to deal with. At the end to get the view, jump from the upper ledge not the lower one.

Dulfy.net’s jumping puzzle guide might help a bit too.

http://dulfy.net/2012/09/30/gw2-wall-breach-blitz-diessa-plateau-jumping-puzzle-guide/

Good luck and keep at it. You surely will get the puzzle down and if you have not tried, do the Crimson Plateau Jumping Puzzle just across the way do that one too. It is a lot shorter.

Do you like Black Lion Chest Keys?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I do not mean to be rude to ANet, but while I understand the purpose of this system, people with low resources won’t buy in to the BL key system. I myself have supported the game buying other things OTHER than the keys. This system benefits players who can spend a lot (which is fine!) or have the patience to farm the keys through storyline.

I have only two scraps since they were implemented (however, I have never bought any keys.) Have had my share of keys from normal (non-farming) storylines and lucky dailies/map completions, but never get the scraps (much less a ticket.) The wiki says that they are a “common drop from Black Lion chests” but such information is utterly misleading, and downright false.

So yes, the one thing I would recommend is buying he skins outright from the TP, at a realistic price you can pay (not necessarily the price it’s currently being sold.)

I LIKE the keys when I get them for free-but buying them for a chance at no practically good reward is a no-no. Rather buy an upgrade, or weapon or armor skin instead, which is guaranteed, and what you are seeing is mostly what you are getting. Can’t see that hundreds of players are buying tons of keys with real money, though only ANet knows.

(Though many people are gamblers in real-life, and others spend tons of money on lottery tickets too-their right-so perhaps I am in the minority.)

I only use the keys I have gotten in drops/storylines and won’t buy them because so far in all the chests I have opened I have not seen anything in the good to outstanding range out of them. As for scraps those have been few to almost none for me so I guess it is the usual bad RNG karma.

I have over 250 chests and I am not sure why I keep the ones I have gotten since they are nearly worthless on the TP – that pretty much says it all. I guess I am hoping they will revamp the whole chest system somehow and figure a regular way of getting keys through achievements or additional quests etc. to balance the chest/key ratio other than just buying keys. I know I would participate and I think a lot of folk would think about participating just to get the keys. Especially if you combined periodic limited time quest(s)/event(s) with the chance to get enough keys to open your accumulated chests and a chance at a precursor, higher level mats, ascended stuff or even a legendary.

Aerinndis.2730

I refuse to be discouraged for not getting precursor much less a legendary. While not all that happy about the RNG in this game anything you do get is something you didn’t have so you can salvage or sell it. In any case you have gained something you didn’t have before. I have seen so many people with legendaries running around now I have lost interest in even acquiring one. What I gain in this game is what I want to. I take pleasure in getting achievements, pleasure in what I can get out of the living story, meeting new folk, finding new things to do. It comes down to what is important to you. Yeah, I would like the occasional “WOW!” reward. I have gotten them here and there with some exotics I have found good use for but precursers or legendaries obviously are not my fate it seems after many, many, many hours of play. I am not sure if we ever get to craft them that I would even bother to try.

Hi all & ArenaNet,

I know you don’t get these type of posts enough, so here you go!

I’d just like to say how much my Team and I appreciate all the Home Runs your hitting:
1) Account Wide Wallet = Awesome = Home Run!
2) Living Story Events = Ever Changing fun! (Thanks for all the hard work!)
3) Larger Crafting Storage option = Homerun
4) Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic, Infinite Tools, etc.. = Homerun
(I don’t mind paying some $$ to support the game, you guys are doing great!)
5) New Fractals = Fun! Love fractals!
(Though some of those newer ones should be lev 10+ Like the “Tron” one where the floor drops out, tough on newbie’s & Pug’s. The mechanics are a bit advanced for newer players, like ones being upscaled from lower levels.)
6) Upcoming Trait Changes = Looks Cool!
7) WvW Seasons to motivate people to play WvW! LOVE IT! Can you say E-Sports? YES!

And the reason I was so motivated to come post, the new Wardrobe/Dye changes = Brilliant! bows with much respect

And I could just go on & on, but you get the idea.

GW2 is so my favorite game because you all are really making the right changes that make the game more & more fun!

Some other home runs we would like to request:
1) Guild Chat: Make what was typed in Guild Chat not disappear when I log out to another char and back in. Party chat stays, but not Guild chat for some reason. Minor I know, but I miss stuff people type to me and as the leader, that can be a bummer.

2) Guild Housing: The team and I want a home we can call our own. If it was me, I’d make those houses on the top of Divinity’s Reach purchasable via auction. Don’t instance it away, Make it in the Open world where people can just “Run Buy” and find & talk with new people. Instanced Housing always becomes ghost towns I find. Case in point = LOTRO Housing.
— Also this would be a super fun thing for the members to gather together wood, Ore, etc.. to make the house. Then stock it with stuff, crafting, etc. Motivates members! Please don’t make this out of reach of the small/medium guilds.

3) Request from members: Old World Event Items like from the original Mad Kings Event, etc.. to make account bound, not soul bound to use on other char. Since some of them are unusable on the char they dropped to.

4) Another member Request: Ascended Jewelries and Trinkets = Account Bound., allows people to try different builds or at least some Middle ground.

In closing, please pass on to the entire ArenaNet team our thanks & appreciation.

Nice post!
For myself
1) Account Wide Wallet – Definite home run – love that!
2) Living Story Events – Some ups, some downs but overall really enjoyed the ride. It was a learning experience for everyone. I am eagerly awaiting the next!
3) Larger crafting storage option – big home run for me. It has been so helpful when trying to get my crafting levels up.
4) Copper-fed Salvage-O-Matic, Infinite Tools etc. – another home run. The overall convenience of these made the cost well worth it to me.
5) New Fractals – I have not done Fractals as yet but would like to.
6) Upcoming trait changes – Should be interesting and another learning experience – this keeps the game fresh for me.
7) WvW Seasons – I enjoy WvW but last season wore me out due to the issues that arose last season and I am hoping some of that will be resolved this season.

I am also excited about the new Wardrobe/Dye changes and what they will bring. I do think it is a change for the positive overall.

Thanks, ANet, I know it is hard to try to please the plethora of folk who inhabit this world. Kudos for continuing to make this a fun gaming experience.

My suggestion is to submit a ticket regarding multiple items bought for characters ….

It looks like they don’t want people submitting tickets about this just yet as found in the account forum:

You can submit questions about the Feature Build after it goes live on April 15th. In the meantime, watch for more information via our Knowledge Base (search: Wardrobe) and blog posts.

Everyone: Please do not submit tickets or make forum posts about the Feature Build at this time. Customer Support cannot assist with these matters in advance of the build going live.

*Note requesting not to make forum posts related to the feature builds in this context is referring to the account forum.

Then looks like it would be something to document and then put in after the build goes live which means take pics of what you got and list in detail just in case…..

My suggestion is to submit a ticket regarding multiple items bought for characters (list in detail what you bought and for what characters) and see if they would consider doing the same as with the dyes. If you had multiples of one type of armor for several characters maybe you could get a random piece of armor in return. It is worth at least asking. Otherwise it is one of those things that is what it is – life is like that. Most likely a lot of us with multiple characters are in the same pond. For myself, I don’t see it as a big issue. I earned the gold or gems to buy stuff for my avies and have gotten a lot of enjoyment out of them as I outfitted them.

Your other option may be to salvage the duplicate items before the patch and at least gain the materials from those items.

**just thought of another one. If the transmute charges can be bought, possibly ANet would give the value of the items in transmute charges.

Map Completion Tips

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I watched to see what were the non-peak hours for the other servers and then snuck around to get to as many open areas as I could. I also ran with a few zergs and got into some of the structures that way – check to make sure you also get the view if there is one in there. Sometimes it is a real pain to try to get back in especially if it tends to be a heavily contested structure or keeps flipping. Always check right after the reset to see what you can get to and try to take advantage of that especially if your map has changed colors.

I think the first time I did completion, I did not do any WvW and just checked to see what was free, ran in and got stuff that way. It did take a lot longer waiting for maps to rotate. The second and third times I was participating in WvW more and got quite a few areas just following the zerg. Even if WvW is not your cup of tea, following a good commander can at least make the experience enjoyable and you can get a good idea of how things get done there plus you get some loot out of it.

I think one of the funniest adventures I had was being in a zerg that took a structure, I got the POI and was getting the view when the structure flipped again and I had to run for my life. I got both and was able to get out alive. Nothing is more fun either than running past the guards in the north part of the map and into the village and grabbing the POI and then the view and running out without getting caught.

I could see the city being rebuilt in different styles around the surviving buildings. Big question will be how they will utilize the wreck of Scarlet’s machine that litters the landscape. They can salvage parts of wreckage that they can and/or build on what bits that have areas suitable for that. Roaming around I was able to get up on some pieces of wreckage and immediately thought of houses being put on the spot. In any case, I see a different looking city rising from the ruins. Seeing how quickly workers reappeared there is certainly indicative of a population who intends on re-inhabiting the area. Since the level of destruction is so large, I expect this will take quite a while though.

Heirloom merchant back for a day or two

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Actually, Nightscream had some nice suggestions about this in this thread that I would find very acceptable and also would fit nicely within the storyline: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/escape/A-Found-Heirloom-Suggestion/first#post3779581

I’ve been reading the forums after coming here to look for the answer as to why the “Found Heirloom” vendor was gone, and I wasn’t the only one that seemed to miss the forum only warning. But I’ve thought of some possible ways that might be acceptable solutions. (take it or leave it these are just ideas tossed out there into the cosmos)

1. Create a “Black Market” vendor that has to be unlocked via a quest or can be found at the end of a jumping puzzle, or that even appears randomly in towns, that will accept the “Found Heirlooms” and other event items in trade for either the original offered Halo and Horn’s potions or rare crafting items.

2. Make an “Official Lion’s Guard Lost and Found” In LA where the Heirlooms could be turned in to the “proper authorities” so they can be given back to the families that lost them.

3. Do both and make the vendors trade completely different items from each other!

Well these are just some solutions off the top of my head that would fit into the “story line” so to speak. Again take it or leave it. I just thought it was a fun idea, and more productive then “crying over spilt milk” (so to speak) about something we as players can’t change.

And just remember we don’t know if the heirlooms will be tradeable via another means (i.e. the trader lady mentioned in the update notes) so everyone just calm down and give it a few days and lets see where the dev’s lead us.

Did anyone else find... * SPOILERS *

Went and found this. I had no idea it was there!

In the old city ruins in front of the lions, swim up the stairs and through the vegetation.
and you will see the path. (Please ignore my bugged achievement in the upper right – it’s been reported)

Check out this thread that someone had a while back for the same area. Possibly someone has suggested the location in there.

Those are for RECURRING events this is a NON RECURRING event. Pretty much vendors for non recurring events go away and you are out of luck if you didn’t do what you needed to before the event was over. Recurring events mean those items most likely will be available again in the future. If you missed out it was because you did not check, either in map chat or or forums if you were not sure. Very sorry if you didn’t but it is on those who did not do that not an, “Oh, I screwed up so you should make it right!” kind of thing.

OP already posted in an ongoing thread and chose to repost here so this should be merged with that thread.

Why is it always someone’s fault when this NON recurring event has been running nearly a month and folk don’t think to ASK in Map Chat or look or ask on forums if certain things that are being collected are going to continue???

And if you were in collecting and collecting enough long enough you could have ASKED in Map Chat, trust me, someone on the map knew…. so no excuses especially since you had nearly a month of collecting to think on how to spend it.
