Heirlooms reward doesn't match effort

in Living World

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

Actually I have to agree with OP here. Searching rubble for heirlooms should grant selfish potion while rescuing citizens should grant the selfless potion. Right now the runs for the heirlooms takes zergs through events that level up and make it impossible to complete for those trying to do the event. Also I have been seeing folk running past those getting their butt handed to them while trying to rescue civilians and not even pausing to help. Not sure if they are on an heirloom search but dang that is so rude…

I really enjoyed reading the books in the speedy reader achievement and wanted more of the same – this is another way of providing similar info and history.

I like being able to use the found belongings to get more obsidian shards. Since the found heirlooms take a bit of work to get and are more limited in numbers, it would be nice to use them to get other things besides the selfless and selfish potions and the additional alliance supplies. (maybe a mini?)

I hope there will be an additional use for the blade shards because I have an awful lot of them now.

Overall, I am really enjoying this event. It has been challenging and engaging. Good work, Anet.

A wonderful character who doesn’t let her disability keep her down – she channels her talents into wonderful things. Yes, a mini Taimi and mini Scruffy for Christina! I hope to see more of Taimi and hope she figures out a way to save Lion’s Arch. She needs to meet up with Heal-O-Tron – it seems to be working on something I bet she could help with.

If I go down especially during a battle I look to see what is going on around me. If it does not look good I am not going to put others at risk so I waypoint and run back to help. Otherwise I wait a little and look around but and may still waypoint if everyone is too tied up. Not an issue and I won’t take it badly if folk don’t rezz me. Also I never ask for a rezz – it’s kind of pointless in a heated battle and I do find it irritating someone is going ‘rezz me’ and is laying in the middle of multiple AOE fields and everyone around is fighting for their lives. I rezz when I can but if it is going to take me and others down I do what I can and move away and continue to fight. If the area clears enough I try to go back and assist.

One will always have good and bad experiences. I have found it all averages out in the end. You do have to take responsibility for yourself, though.

I have seen a lot of folk helping rezz whenever they can or coming in to assist in fights so there is a lot of helping out going on in this event.

I really like the idea that in addition to searching in the rubble saving a civilian would give you something like the heirloom as a token of thanks, though it should be once you made sure they got to the safe point. Slayer Achievements

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

This is a great suggestion, based on some good logic. Too bad Anet won’t look at it. Let alone consider it.

Actually, I pitched a variation they seemed very interested in. Instead of a flat, permanent buff in each category, each achievement allowed to you to create the matching potion of slaying once per day. As you reach higher tiers, you can pull out a better potion. It took up the “wrench” slot and you could only have one running at a time, but it did let you leverage you “monster killing experience” without raising the maximum efficiency over what players already have access to. It just let you tap a badly under-utilized part of the game that already exists.

I really like this idea as well! Or wonder if you could earn a skill that could be used like a potion once a day in slaying vs making a potion.

Giants are really an issue. Not enough around that count for sure. I would like to see either the Risen Giants count or add some more like what is in Brisban.

facepalm

After reading one too many posts insulting players for failures, Ceridwen finally loses it. You have been warned.

Who’s responsible for an event (specifically the marionette) failing?

I’m responsible, you’re responsible, we’re ALL sodding responsible. Yes, everyone taking part is at fault. Co-operation is the nature of this event.

Why are we all to blame?

There are several reasons, which include but are not limited to, the following (mentally tick the one which most applies to you, or tick all that apply if you feel you are deserving of more):

*Assuming people have played the content before, that each and every one knows exactly what to do at all times. Because they must have and must do, because you do!

*Assuming you have no part in educating the people on your run with exactly what to do. Your failure to communicate your knowledge has grossly let your side down. Give yourself a pat on the back for your non-contribution! Excellent.

*Assuming that it’s okay to insult and belittle people in-game and on forums when there are failures. You lower morale, and in doing so, set yourself and others up for future failures. Well played, you.

*Assuming every player has a maxed-out character taking part, just because your own character is!

*You think everyone should have the event down perfectly after one or two attempts because you have? If you think they should, well done! That’s another assumption and you are clearly a professional. Someone should be paying you for your time.

*Yes, players who fail may well be at fault too, but immediately shifting blame when you DO NOT know exactly why things happened the way they did is lazy reactive thinking. I say thinking; I probably shouldn’t because that doesn’t appear to be involved in the process at all. Assumption!

*Of course, all of that said, turning up and not knowing the minutiae isn’t a crime. Asking isn’t a crime, and it’s better than keeping quiet and contributing to the failure. If this is you, there’s plenty of help and guides now available, so do your best to get stuck in. If you still fail, try to identify what YOU did that was wrong, and arm yourself with better knowledge for next time. That is, if the people from the above reasons don’t make you want to kill yourself or drown kittens instead.

Enough reasons, I need to go and put the kettle on. But to sum up:

Why on earth do you think it’s acceptable to berate other people? How does this make the experience better? Do you feel better for it? Is your life that terrible that’s what you need to do to feel good about yourself? If so, that’s why events will fail. Well done, you.

Owning up to responsibilities probably shouldn’t happen in an online game, but here’s a learning opportunity for all.

sigh

goes to kettle

awaits flames… but not from kettle

Thank you for writing this, it sums up how I feel perfectly.

Double ditto for this. My server has managed to beat the marionette several times now. One thing we have had is people or commanders putting out info regarding what is coming and the boss mechanics being discussed while we are waiting with people answering questions and providing suggestions. We also had a lot and gave a lot of encouragement throughout the entire event. I do believe folk fought harder because of that. Not all of the platforms were perfect runs of each boss and at least two times we went right down to the wire before severing the last chain – the main thing is everyone was trying to do their best and that is all you can ever ask of anyone.

These were very helpful in seeing the mechanics of the various fights. Folk should post these links in chat before the event starts as a prep.

It also helped to work at keeping that cannon bar low to give the greatest chance of success to the platforms. You do have to defend those lanes right up to the end and not give up.

I believe it is the Clockwork mobs you want to prevent getting through the gate. The other mobs that spawn up by the gates don’t go through – they come at the defenders from behind so it is good to have some folk up at the top of the gate to protect siege and the backs of those keeping the clockworks from getting near the gate.

You should add use and defend your siege in the lane during phase 1. The siege is VERY effective in dropping what spawns near the portal as well as anything trying to come up the lane. As an assist to those fighting it is invaluable.

The several times I have done the lanes, not everyone hops on the siege and those who do often get taken down because no one defends them when they come under attack. The successful lanes I have been on have been the ones where the siege was also defended.

We still haven’t gotten an explanation as to WHY it got stronger after Zhaitan’s death.

Can’t be Tequatl because Rox talks about killing him when you talk to the folks when finding out about the lair.

From those conversations air, fire, water, earth combinations came up in each of the enemies that Scarlet has been associated with. Possibly a new dragon from all this tech?

For Phase 1 the one thing I noticed on the two tries I have been able to get to was few to no people manning what siege there was available to defend the path up to the portals. I hopped on the upper Arrow Cart and pretty much decimated anything in the upper areas. It was my understanding from others that there was other siege placed along the defense areas that could be utilized to great effect (think WvW on those). Have folk jump on those, have couple to protect them and assign couple of folk to get the wrenches as necessary to repair the defenses and assign the rest of the folk to attack what is coming and you should have one heck of a defense until the portals open.

Phase 2 maybe have a first response team that stays at the top to go in and start with the others following once the portal opens.

The first attempt we did not take down the champ in phase 2 but the second time we were able to kite ours down while avoiding the damaging circles and eventually get the generator out for our circle.

Bottom line is if you die in the circle you are dead…if you try to rezz someone you are dead as well. So kite, kite, kite and hope others get into the portal to help.

This is definitely going to be trial and error until we figure it out.

Dulfy has a great list of all the puzzles and orders them from easy to hard http://dulfy.net/2012/09/16/gw2-jumping-puzzles-guides-guild-wars-2/

Thanks for doing videos, Cilio. Getting different perspectives on how to do the puzzles always helps, especially if you are stuck on any parts. Jumping puzzles are not my favorite thing to do but once you get one down, it is a lot easier to repeat them. I still have some I have not managed to do – especially the timed ones…

Some of the ones I do for monthly are (in order of easy to harder):
Under New Management – Southsun Cove
Umaug’s Secret – Lion’s Arch
Shaman’s Rookery – Wayfarer Foothills (stability ability helps here)
King Jalis’ Refuge – Snowden Drifts
Spelunker’s Delve – Caledon Forest
Demongrub Pits – Queensdale
Crimson Plateau – Diessa Plateau
Buried Archives – Cursed Shore
Loreclaw Expanse – Plains of Ashford (added this after doing the alternate route around the fire traps)
Wall Breach Blitz – Diessa Plateau (couple of spots you have to know exactly where to stand before jumping)
Troll’s End – Lion’s Arch
Weyandt’s Revenge – Lion’s Arch
Grenrich Gamble – Diessa Plateau (last couple of jump involve making a jump around a corner from narrow beam to beam – I only recently manged to figure this one out)

Do people really stack that many materials?

My husband and I tend to. We’ve actually filled our maxed out guild vault with stack of materials and purchased additional personal bank space to hold stacks.

We’ve been saving materials since…well, since we heard about ascended a year back. We do use the materials while we’re upping our character crafting, obviously. We also share with the guildies that craft, or help out guildies that don’t craft by making them armor/weapons when they need an upgrade.

Ditto here. Hubby and I do exactly the same thing…

Eventually you might look into a game pad like the Logitech G13 or whatever fits her hand the best since it has a joystick and she can custom program her own keys to her liking. I had trouble using the keyboard and this worked out for me very well. I use the mouse as well as the gamepad and it works great.

Though definitely start with showing her how to change the settings and let her see if she can work something out that she likes as she is playing. A lot of this is just getting comfortable and confident in what you are doing which does take time. As long as she is enjoying herself the skills will come.

Hubby and I have our own accounts but created a guild for ourselves for extra storage. We have had a blast playing together and helping our various avies level up. I believe there are quite a few couples out there playing (there was a thread out there once about it, I think). Main thing is have fun and learn as you go! I introduced hubby to GW2 and laughed myself sick watching him walk into a wall for 5 minutes straight when he first started (he had never played anything like this before)… He figured stuff out on his own, had a lot of fun doing it and still is.

LF advice on what I'm missing

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I am glad you are having fun!

Hubby and I created our own guild so we could get the extra storage space for crafting supplies that we both can access. Most people join guilds because those guilds do something they enjoy such as dungeons, WvW, farming etc. Some are very social and have all kinds of activities so it is your choice what guilds you want to belong to. Some expect representation all the time so be sure to ask especially if you have multiple guilds or want to work on building influence on your own guild so you can get the larger storage…

It took me a while to get into the Trading Post. It depends on what you want to do in regards to salvaging. (right now I am going for luck and crafting mats so I am salvaging nearly everything though I do check the TP for the going price before deciding) If you are accumulating mats for eventual crafting you may want to salvage rather than sell. You can check what an item is going for on the trading post as well and decide what to do if it has a good to great resell price. Always check with the vendors to see if something is sellable – some stuff that appears to be trash or trophy can be sold to a vendor for a bit of extra copper or silver.

WvW is confusing at first. I got into it after my avie was Level 80 and I was trying for map completion on those maps. Check for forums by your server – (you said Ferguson’s Crossing) http://www.fcgw2.com/ and look for the WvW section. A lot of servers also use Teamspeak or some other communication app so find out which it is and get on and listen in to the chat. You can always ask in WvW chat and someone will let you know. It is a good way of figuring out what is going on and where folk are operating. Try this guide for an overview http://www.guildwars2hub.com/guides/world-vs-world You may find a guild that you feel compatible with as well. Follow the commanders you see and take note of the ones you like and their guilds so you can watch for them and try running with their group when you see them. Show appreciation to the commanders you like by sending them any siege you might have or learn how to make superior siege in the Mystic Forge and give that out as a thank you. WvW can be a lot of fun when you get a group with a lot of cooperation running around.

I enjoyed crafting from the start so you can start any time – you just need materials. Try this guide (there are others out there) http://www.guildwars2-crafting.com/crafting-guides/ If you level up enough you can make armor and weapons to use as you continue to level up.

I don’t run dungeons or fractals so I can’t speak for PUGs.

It sounds like you are well on your way in GW2.
