I can see people getting upset over someone who is winning round after round after round and not giving others a chance at it. For someone to win one time and stay in the game should not be an issue with anyone much less the reason to grief someone. I am glad you reported this guy – he took it too far once he started pming you.

I agree with having less people or at least an easy, medium, hard version you can choose from. For me it did make the difference in getting the achievement vs trying to play with a large number of people. There were only 3 including me in there and it was still challenging but a lot more fun. Once I got the achievement, I left the arena so the others would get their shot at it. I may go back periodically just to try to round out the other crab achievements, though.

Just got it but was most definitely dumb luck and there were only three of us in the arena at the time. It was still hard to get and keep hold of the crab but a bit easier to see what you were doing and where you were going than when there are masses of folk playing at one time.

You can tell if you got the dive properly by looking at the diving achievement after you have dived. The total number will go up by one each time you get it right. I don’t think there is any other way of telling which dive it is that you need especially if you did not check to see you did get the dive as you were doing them. I checked each off once I was certain I had gotten it.

It is up to you if you want to pay to travel quickly to each spot. If you feel it is a waste of money, you have other means of getting into areas to get near the dives and if you are doing events or looking for crafting materials, make plans to work your way to those areas and the dive sites and save money on travel costs.

There is a new dive at Southsun Cove in Bakestone Cave that you might try.
http://dulfy.net/2013/05/14/gw2-secrets-of-southsun-achievement-guide/
Look at bottom of the achievement page to see where the goggles are. When you jump you need to hit forward so you hit the lava directly to get credit. You might try doing that one to see if that gives you your 37 (I am not sure if it counts to the dive achievement – it counts for the Secrets of Southsun Achievement but it is worth a try to see if it does)

Does anyone know how to get to this Vista?

Complete list is there so you can look and check off the ones you are certain you got. The recommendation is to hit the 1 or 2 while going down to make sure you get the dive. When I did these, I checked the achievement after diving to make sure it had counted before checking it off my list. Hope this helps.

Not everyone can master jumping puzzles for a variety of reasons. But in light of that, you don’t really need to get more than 10 collection samples, you can bypass this one if you are unable to do it and do the all the other things Danikat mentioned above.

I do not see it as cheating if a mesmer is present and offering portals to those who would like them. Just make sure you thank them or tip them if you want to for the kind effort they are putting out for those of us who have difficulties with jumping puzzles. This just shows how folk in this game are willing to help others. Some of us have RL handicaps that make it difficult to master jumping puzzles so such kind help is very much appreciated.

Crab Toss is actually kind of fun even if you bumble around. You can’t ‘die’ though you do go down for a bit before recovering and if the crablings latch onto your face, just dodge to throw them off. Easy enough to stay to the end and you do get a reward for it. I actually ended up getting the crab a couple of times and I laughed a lot.

When WvW and World Completion Collide

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

I honestly think that’s a bit unfair and unrealistic to a lot of people. There are many servers which get stuck with the same color for months, it happened to me.

Originally I was completely against switching servers just to get map completion, I thought; “I should be able to get my achievements on my own server through my own hard work, without having to cheat and switch servers”. However after weeks and weeks and weeks of it never switching I got tired of that and decided to just switch servers to get WvW completion.

I honestly felt like I was cheating the game when I did that – but I had no option! My server stayed the exact same color for months, imagine how long before it finally switched… but then I’d have to wait again for it to switch again.

At least I had the privilege of free transfers, it’s unfair that people are stuck without being able to get map completion because of this one aspect of the game. Some servers don’t do too well for themselves and usually don’t own what’s their own territories in the map… so people in these servers are forced to not have map completion? Or are forced to pay and switch out leaving behind their guilds and friends to be able to finally get map completion? That’s just not fair.

I myself was against how WvW and map completion interacted with each other before I had map completion, and now that I do have map completion I’m still against it. Just because I don’t have to deal with this bullkitten anymore doesn’t make it any more fair for all those other people who do.

I did wait months before I got the rotation I needed. (I could have switched servers at the time when they were free but just chose not to) There is absolutely nothing forcing anyone to switch servers to get the achievement other than their own desire to have the achievement sooner than later. I am not seeing anyone forced to spend their monies to change servers here or not having any options but a certain course available to them. There is nothing unfair about how the achievement is set up. There is no requirement to actually participate in WvW other than being careful about getting in the path of a raid or ongoing event inadvertently.

I see a lot of folk around with the title over their heads so it cannot be that hard for so many to have achieved it. How they got there was their choice on how to do it.

When WvW and World Completion Collide

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Aerinndis.2730

Aerinndis.2730

Completion is doable with this setup. If you want it yesterday, then probably no…. It takes a lot of patience to get the WvW part of it but it can and does happen. That is one of the things that makes this an achievement and something you know you really put the effort in for. I am an average-jane player and just wanted it because of the challenge of doing it appealed to me. I see plenty of people running around with the title over their heads so folk are getting it done.

For the maps you don’t have, there are areas you can get or sneak through to get those POI and views (actually, that was a LOT of fun to do those bits). Then you wait for map rotation (yeah that…it does take a while) and run into the areas you didn’t have access to formerly. No one says you have to actually participate in the WvW activities though I did get caught up in a few on my quest and enjoyed running with the mobs, helping out and picking up a POI or two while I did it.

Initially, I did not check that often in WvW to see what parts of the map were open and only really paid attention once I had nearly all the rest of the areas on the other maps. Otherwise it might not have taken as long for me to complete. Only advice is to check every time you log in to see what you might have access to, take advantage of any opportunities and be patient, very patient.

This event was the first time I tried a dungeon. Usually I solo or play with hubby. I went through twice with PUGs. First time we were just unable to defeat the bosses because one in the party had to leave and two kept dying so that left two of us and we just wore out. Everyone tried hard to do their part as we went through. I was impressed at how everyone worked together so that we quickly plowed through to the bosses. The second run the next day (different PUG) it took us a bit to figure strategy at the start but once we got past the flame embers we started really coordinating very well. The bosses were difficult (at least for me) but now I see the strategies you need to put in play to survive better (jump, dodge and run are your best friends here). I felt it was worth the challenge of doing this and was pleasantly surprised by the helpful folk in both groups. True, you never know what you are going to end up with but it did pay off very nicely and I had a great time with both groups. Communication was the key here – have someone designated to do the targeting as you go and lay out the strategy before you start so folk, especially those new to dungeons, know what is expected of them. There were enough pause points going through to stop and coordinate before making the next charge.

Map finally rotated so I could get the rest of the spots I needed over two days. First day two POI and View were held by another server and next day my server held the locations and was able to get and complete this achievement. Lot of this was patience on my part, and looking for any opportunity to get to where I needed to be without switching servers. It did take a long time (months) but now that I got it, oh so worth the effort! Even with color rotation I snuck into any open area I could to get what I could. These last bits were in forts so I had to wait for that and definitely worth it!

Great way to pick opponents off one at a time… Downside to pets is they don’t stay put when put away and can come out at inconvenient times, though, overall I have really enjoyed playing my Ranger and it remains one of my faves.

Aerinndis.2730

Ultimately it comes down to what parts of the daily work best for each person to accomplish and how they plan out what they do to get there within the time they do have.

Even if one did not use an online map, once you know the general location of the scopes on one or more maps you can make the rounds in a pretty short time even on a larger map. Thirty days is a lot of time to scout out even two maps worth of scopes. They do make themselves known and they mostly tend to be near pathways or villages (they are spying, remember?), plus no problem seeing the wave pattern when you get in the area of one or hear them if someone or something gets too near. One could then alternate between two maps (10 a day for 15 days) or even do two maps at a time over a period of 7 or 8 days. That or figure out the what is the best way to do it within your in-game time limitations. If that isn’t possible then that achievement isn’t doable this month but possibly the others in the list were to get you there.

We didn’t use waypoints because we were also completing dailies at the same time, gathering or getting our kills as we were heading to the next scope so yes, there probably was more time involved than if we had used the waypoints. The total number of scopes is daunting, certainly, but as in anything, good planning can make what looks impossible, possible.

I don’t know how many folk actually went for the achievement but we did see a lot of folk out there whacking scopes (at least on our server) and we gave or had a lot of help taking them out. And you can always ask if anyone wants to take out scopes with you or even ask for locations of them in chat.

Monthly completion? Not :/

You do have to look closely at the total achievements to see what is needed and also divide by days in the month. The periscopes were actually only 5 per day and very doable. They only appeared to be difficult if you tried to get all 150 over a short period of time. End of the month is crunch time but with 50 scopes available it is still doable….

Hubby and I pushed to complete the monthly in about 5 days this month. If we had done it at the more leisurely pace spaced out over the entire month, the 150 periscopes would not have seemed that bad. (all you had to do was 5 a day for the entire month). I suspect the devs thought 5 a day is very doable but didn’t see the O.o aspect when people looked at the 150 total. So for anyone wanting to get this done over a short period of time, yes, it seems very grindy. It felt like that when doing it but in perspective we really did not have to push so hard to get it done that quickly. Of course starting this late in the month now, well…… Lesson learned is divide the total in the amount of days in the month and plan accordingly.

It IS frustrating to have to wait for a WvW map to rotate so you can get to those spots you need – some do seem to take forever. I have 99% and only need a couple more in an area controlled by another server and two in Eternal Battlegrounds in a keep by the same server. Yes, it has been a good while, but I figure eventually it will roll around and plan to be patient. I try to check every day or so to see what I might be able to get to – I nearly got a POI in a keep yesterday but it got retaken before I could get there, lol. Actually the most fun I have had going for world completion was going into one WvW map entirely held by that server and sneaking around the countryside and actually got all the POI and views that were not in keeps that I could get to. It was a big thrill to try to get to areas hoping all the while that no one spotted me at least until I could get to my goal.

An achievement is a thing done successfully, typically by effort, courage, or skill according to the dictionary and that is what this is. I plan on working for this achievement and if I can get it, I know it is something I can be proud of even if no one else ever knows it.

Not unlimited time – it was more what we did with the time we had. We had the maps with the scope locations and planned the most efficient route for each one. We usually tried for three maps a day for 30. It was more about being efficient in getting to each scope than anything. We got most of the dailies done at the same time as we were enroute to the next scope. Killing the mobs also helped on some dailies so it was a win-win overall. It also went much quicker time-wise once we were familiar with the route to the next scope. Since it was a monthly you could do 5 scopes a day and still make it if you started at the beginning of the month.

When I see someone trying to take a scope, I do try to go over and help them out especially if a mob has appeared. They are fun to take down when you have a coordinated effort by several and if it helps someone else make their monthly, even better.

Hubby and I got our 150 early in the month. It did take some dedicated work to get them considering the knockbacks and spawned/spawning mobs. We got quite creative with taking down the mobs so I guess we learned from the experience – definitely has made us better at dealing with mobs now… The achievement is definitely doable but because of the difficulty of the scopes we did wish after about 75 of them that the required number was lower than the 150 – 100 would have still been good.

We were quite proud of finishing that part of the monthly, though. At least you do continue to get karma for them when turning them in, which is why we still go after them if we encounter them. Thanks, Anet for putting in a fix for them.

need /n?d/
Verb
Require (something) because it is essential or very important: “I need help now”.
Noun

want /wänt/
Verb
Have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for.
Noun
A lack or deficiency of something: “houses in want of repair”.

Pretty much says it all.

Just like we all have different play styles and views, our requirements and desires for the game are different, all the posts here reflect that. One person will not be satisfied with what is offered in the game because of their point of view/needs that have not been met. Others will be satisfied with what they have so far since they feel their needs/wants have been met or they enjoy surmounting the challenges with what has been offered. Neither are wrong. Anet has the burden of trying to satisfy both sides of this seesaw and I do not envy their position, though it does lend to pushing for a lot of creativity.

I see Need as something you feel you MUST have in order to progress to where you want to be in the game. Want is something you would like to have or have happen with the game to make it more interesting, easier, harder or whatever. Neither is a game ender for me. I do what I can within my capabilities and try to be satisfied with that and find myself thrilled when I find I have stretched myself and achieved more. I admit my Needs are reasonably met for myself. I see for the completionists and hardcore it appears to be more of a Need for them than simply a Want. That is their playstyle and I respect that.

Hubby and I got the 150 so it is doable. Yes you can only loot them once a day so keep track of what area you do. I used Dulfy’s maps and figured the fastest loop around each map. Just doing 3 maps a day will get you there in 5 days. 100 would have been sufficient for me though…

Also check out this thread (ignore the title) it has a lot of good suggestions for taking the scopes down especially if they spawn Molten Alliance.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/flameandfrost/Periscopes-ranged-knock-back-spam-NOT-FUN/page/2#post1792266

The scopes knockdowns are annoying but a bit of thought and planning, you can get them down. Ranged attacks, pets and turrets are probably the best strategies so you can get up to it and take it down quickly. If you have a friend or see if someone on your server is getting the scopes it helps to pair up because you can take them a lot quicker with two or more and hopefully avoid the spawning hordes. I do think, though, there are several out there that spawn every time no matter how fast we took the same ones out they always spawned.

Obviously it is meant to be an effort to get the achievement and we did feel quite proud finishing it, so I guess it was worth it.

Hubby and I give those things the bum’s rush and can usually take them down quickly but we have found several locations that no matter how fast you get them, they always spawn the ‘wrecking crew’ that promptly tries to take you down before you can collect the audio scrap. (the scope east of Firewatch Encampment Waypoint in Iron Marches – probably was the worst of the bunch in my mind)

Definitely use pets or turrets – they are an asset to distract so you can get close enough to get the necessary whacks on the thing. And clearing the area of beasties by luring them out of scope distance and disposing of them before going in helps as well, though on occasion we got lucky and they helped us by going for the ‘wrecking crew’ first.

To make the monthly has been quite a grind on these and not that much fun – 75 to a 100 would have been more than enough for me. 150 is overkill especially since nothing happens once you do destroy them other than they come back and it is rinse and repeat. It would give more incentive to have the scopes decrease where folk consistently take them out – definitely would make it feel like we were making a impact in the fight against the Molten Alliance.

Hubby and I have taken down periscopes that did not give the audio log. These were scopes we tried for the first time. I think overall in 30 scopes I came across roughly 3 of them I was unable to loot and they were not scopes we had been to before.

We also have come across wrecked scopes and were able to loot the wreckage without having to take the scope down. So not sure if there are occasional bugs in them… Hubby did go back last night to the one in Wayfayer that didn’t allow us to loot it – it was more than a day since we had been there and was successfully able to loot it, so who knows….

Since we have been able to retrieve the audio logs more times than not the failures/bugs are not that upsetting. I wish though they would set more often than once a day though. 12 hours would be enough for me.

In Wayfayer Hills, the sonic device just w/o Victors Point never gives any audio log. I tried this the other day and nada and twice today with same results. Bug?

Tenacity and creativity deal with the sonic periscope just doing the knockbacks. Look to your strengths to take them out. I deal with those ok. You just have to watch for what else is in the area that gets aggroed while trying to take it out and make sure you are not overwhelmed. The really harder ones are the odd ones that spawns the veteran and friends that are not fun especially if you are alone. I don’t really mind them overall except for the spawning ones.

These sonic periscopes do lend a lot to the story especially if you are ranging further afield and not just staying in one area. Seeing them deeper in Snowden Drifts says the Molten Alliance are making headway from Wayfayer Foothills. It makes me wonder if we can slow them or stop them by continuing to take out periscopes as we find them. (would be a nice touch to see that we had an impact if we kept hitting them over and over by reducing their scope of area)

I have not checked out other areas outside of Diessa to see if they are also spreading there but I suspect they have or will be.

I wish some of the things you find like mugs of ale etc. would count towards that. Or anything you can find to eat (like some eggs) should count towards the eating achievement. Sadly they don’t. Only thing I know of in-game that counts are the Elixir of Heroes. Also some drinks you buy will count for more than others on the achievement bar.
