Very interesting area, though I have not been able to get beyond the Wind Adept. Maybe I am not figuring out where to make the leap from to get to the first platform and have died a lot in the great fall from there. Thanks to good folk down below, I and others have been rezzed several times and keep trying. Nice assortment of champions along the way has moved my monthly right along and good veterans to slay enroute to my next attempt past the Wind Adept. That is about all I can say about it so far. Hopefully will make more progress than this though I tend to be not good at jumping puzzles as a rule…. I do want to make the high dive so it is a goal to get to where I can do that. Hope springs eternal…
This will challenge me so willing to see how far I can get.
Always check to see if you can sell to an NPC before destroying. You can make some nice change off of some of that ‘junk’ – no sense in wasting it if you can profit from it!
Awesomeness! Really, there should be an achievement for this level of damage…. Is your avie still limping?
Did you get Forsaken Halls in Dredgehaunt Cliffs? Or DeMolish Post? Those were the two I needed to finish Shiverpeaks.
I printed a list and checked them off from what I had on my map to figure out the ones I had missed. Also what Mad Rasputin said…. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Bluestone/Explorer
Would like some interesting Town Clothing for a birthday giftie. Random ticket for a chance at a precourser maybe in a cake slice ala Mardi Gras King cake style… Find a birthday cake, cut it and get chance at a precourser slice ticket or reward thingy like that. Blow out candles to see what you get…lots of neat birthday ideas for fun stuffs to do and get rewarded for!
Honestly, I stood outside dungeon and tried to find a group and got in one time, group that was nice but we tanked before getting to Frizz. Was not able to find enough folk after that to go in and try again. I think odds are better early on than later and it was later that I tried…. Hubby and I managed all but two of the Atherblade Caches – two of the jumping puzzles were just beyond us. So we are at 11 of 12 for this. We are proud of what we managed, sorry we were not able to get the rest but there you go – obviously for us it was not meant to be. We had a fun time with what we did do and did get some good rewards. Overall we both got two tickets each so we feel it was time well spent even if we did not get the end part. Hubby did not attempt the jumping puzzle. I did and got pretty far before falling. I will probably try that again since the steam thingies are a lot like the dragonball playing so if you position yourself right you go right up to where you want to. Part I fell was stationary, lol.
Definitely not tired of it even if I couldn’t finish. It was a fun run to see if we could. We managed the last event and hope the next one we can.
Yay! always like to see a fellow explorer figure it out and get it. Congrats!
Wayfayer has the Svanir Dome event with a Champion and then there is the Maw event a bit further south along with the Wolf Master and his pack. Just across into Diessa is a Champion Worm and of course the giant. Harathi Hinterlands the whole taking back the camps events spawn quite a few champions. I think I got 8 or 9 on my first run through there with a group the other day. It also helps with credit for the monthly and daily events.
It never hurts to put out in Map Chat that a particular champion is up and see who is interested in coming to help take it down. (also add the nearest waypoint to the event so folk can get there quickly)
Ditto on Vexa’s Lab (Fireheart Rise) for working on your Ascalon pirates. We would also hit the non spawning holo projectors and then go to the next one and come right back to see if the new one spawned them. Though there were plenty in Fireheart Rise spawning Aetherblades in addition to Vexa’s so we got it done easily. The lower level areas were not good with so many farming there.
I would like to see that and/or an internal waypoint to continue from if you fall. It does not make the puzzle easier, just stages it so you can figure out the next bits. It would certainly encourage me to keep at it until I got to the next bit.
Ours was bugged or just hung up because we had one pattern on the right side when we came in. We looked at wiki, put all the stones on, took them off and it seemed to do the trick resetting and and we were able to continue and get the patterns done. Wiki has some good suggestions on proceeding for this one.
I have seen ANet give us a good variety of content that spans the comments I have seen of what folk are looking for. We have gotten a little of everything in the last several events. This newest one, stretched me as far as jumping puzzles since I do not tend to do them. I did the easy ones and then managed the medium ones (very proud about that too!). Yes, it took a lot of tries for couple of them and there are at least two I just cannot do and probably just won’t. There is enough in this event, though, to get the 12 you need without even having to do the dungeon. I and hubby are 10 of 12 already. We figure the last two on the list will get us there if we don’t try the dungeon first. Good job ANet at balancing an event.
If it is not fun or what you want to do, pass on it. End of the world will not come if you don’t get the rewards for this particular event. Main thing is just have fun and feel accomplished if you can get yourself through a challenge. To me that is way more rewarding than someone handing you a Popsicle just because you showed up.
Depends on what you want out of it and what type of player you are. Only you can answer that by coming in-world and finding what you want to do. Asking others is rather pointless since we are not you and have no real concept of what you want to enjoy or want out of a game or even if you enjoy playing with others. There is so much to this game and so many ways to play it that if you are not having fun then move on and find something that gives you the satisfaction you are looking for.
Congratulations! It is always nice to see someone get that lucky! The Fates are fickle but if their finger is on you, well!!!! Thank your lucky stars!
Did you get Forsaken Halls in Dredgehaunt Cliffs? That was one I missed when I was doing them.
Dredge are very cool in their own way. I would like to see a faction that is cooperative and see what it is like to work with them. Every one of the races in this game have a cool vibe going in one way or another. Skritt on the surface are annoying but they do grow on you after a while. Lot of material here for hopefully other races we will be able to play.
Very nice touch. I hope they are able to keep things like that up as it does have a lot of meaning to the players.
Achievements were just fine. Yeah, some did not count (but fun time wasters, lol) but there were enough to get what you needed event-wise overall. Spending any monies was totally the player’s option just like walking into a casino…you are paying for entertainment so don’t be disappointed when the entertainment doesn’t live up to your expectations and definitely don’t yell foul. House odds are never in your favor… No one was twisting your arm to spend a karka shell on anything. I enjoyed this event immensely, spent a bit on the races, lost a bit there before getting that particular achievement but had a set limit that if I did not get it within a certain amount spent I would not pursue it further. Played Dragon Ball, lost a lot, won a bit and managed the achievement. Got one ticket, one holo dragon wing, and the shattered dragon wing. Overall I would say this event was a win if you put a bit of effort into everything and had no expectations overall other than just enjoyment. I had a lot of fun, hubby says he has enjoyed it and he has not managed the Dragon Ball but he got two weapon skin tickets so I am thrilled for him. We had a lot of fun doing parts of it together so thanks, ANet for a neat event and so totally loved the Noir bits!
Being history keepers could be a wonderful thing especially as this goes on….hint, hint, hint….
Would like something that stores the cut-scenes you get from events….. maybe a personal journal you can access either from your bank or inventory to stash them in. This particular cut-scene is a true gem. Maybe even award something for accumulating them. Would be a nice way to encourage event participation.
Moa Racing is like going to Las Vegas….You are paying for your entertainment and if you put out <amount here> for the time you spent, well, that is your choice and luck of the draw. If you won enough and got the achievement good for you. No one forces you to spend anything anywhere in this game so being livid about not getting anything for what you spent is ridiculous. It amazes me the sense of entitlement folk have for taking that chance. Most of the achievements on the list are putting time and effort in which is not unreasonable. A lot of achievements require some patience and effort to get and obviously ANet has ensured that there are enough and variety that you can work through to get the achievement and rewards. (Kudos to ANet for trying) I guess maybe they need to put in an after event buy for those who just want the easy way out and spend the moola to just look good without the effort. That would be the true money sink in my opinion.
One could find many insults in this game if one really wanted to look for them. What one culture finds funny another might find offensive so it is a fine line between humor and offense. I think more than one culture could see themselves in various characters and races in this game so it is unfair to say this points at Russian, Martian or Jovian etc…heck, the dredge are very borg-like as are the skritt with a seemingly common memory. The story is not yet over either for any of the races so it may be interesting to see how everyone evolves in relation to the other races in the storyline. There are so many funny lines from all the characters, I find it hard to take offense whatever I am seeing. I chuckle at the incredible depth of perception ANet has of our and this world in general. If we cannot laugh at ourselves who can we laugh at?
Wasn’t keeping count but fairly early on maybe under 500 got one ticket for weapon. Think I got Holographic Dragon Wings from a veteran in Kessex from an event and was totally surprised at getting that – either I didn’t notice or it didn’t show but was in my inventory when I checked after the event. Otherwise it has been tons and tons of candy, fireworks, and various foods. Hubby has gotten candy, fireworks, food and nada else. We have great hopes he will eventually get a ticket or get something from what he kills enroute to next effigy. Not spending anything to get coffers and wouldn’t recommend it. We got what coffers we do have just finishing areas we didn’t have or cleaning up areas to the next effigy to burn. Definitely luck in my mind as sometimes he was getting lot of coffers and I got nothing and vice versa. I was pleased with what I got so far, though…..played Powerball while on vacation earlier this month checked tickets I bought while enroute back home and got better luck in here with what I got than that, LOL…. It is in the Fates hands I guess…
Absolutely loved that Noir cut-scene! As soon as it started I was jumping up and down…Brilliant stuff, ANet.
Very helpful, thanks! I have still to complete Loreclaw and this helps a lot.
They were fun to whack!
The lower levels were being farmed so much I decided to go finish a map that I had started and managed to finish the achievement as well in completing that map and into the next one. (actually the higher level areas were lot less populated so it was comfortable making your way around to the next projector) 300 was not impossible at all. Now helping hubby complete a couple of maps and he is well along the way to getting his achievement. We went at our own pace and enjoyed what we were doing getting map completions and the achievements. It is all in how you want to play just like reading a book – do you read and savor as you go, speed read, hop through chapters or just go read the ending? You receive satisfaction from what you put into the effort. If you make it not fun, ANet did not do that, you did. There are so many ways to work on this achievement from standing at one spot until you do, traveling set farming routes, going about your normal business in-world, etc. Find the way that suits your play style and gives you an element of fun and satisfaction doing it. Hubby and I are enjoying this immensely, thanks ANet for such a fun, interesting game.
I used Ranger skills to take him out, not the mine detector so I think there are ways via each profession to figure out how to take him out. (I was at the back of the cave between several mines and nothing spawned between those points so may be one of the sweet spots in the cave…) Some may be more efficient than others. Kiting, Pet, Seed Turret plus healing skills were a plus for Rangers. Would be interesting to see what other professions used to take him out.
I got achievement (not lightfoot one) with a Ranger. Kept switching out pets as they went down, kept throwing down seed turrets and went to the back of the cave where there was a fairly large space between several traps and kited around as I threw the seed turret and pets. I eventually wore him down and got him (on first attempt). I did get thrown into couple of traps but overall was able to keep working at him. From what I understand the Caltrops do next to nothing but the bomb one and maybe the poison traps do take his health if you can switch them and get him to run into them. I also have read if you can lure him to the front of the cave there are some respawning traps you can keep re-enabling to help take him down.
Might be interesting to see from each class what they have figured out to take him out. It wasn’t easy as a Ranger but doable. It was outside the instance that was hard….KarkaCity out there. Do not plan on just standing around waiting cause the karkas will eat yer brains….
Took me months but for first part of doing it, I really did not pay daily attention to WvW maps so probably could have gotten it sooner. I was done with the main areas before really concentrating on WvW. No need to go into combat unless you want to. Get to the areas you can that your server holds. Sneak into any opposition open areas you can get to or run past guards on and get those (that actually was a LOT of fun, lol) and wait for map rotation to get to the other holds/forts that are held by the opposition. It is doable, check every day for any opportunity and take it if you can. Patience is the key but oh so worth it since you know you earned this achievement.
Any of the forts/camps have ongoing events, just do not leave your avie standing in an open area. Climb high and stay away from solo standing huts… Wander around, carefully, lot of really upset wildlife out there and upset settlers at the moment. The Consortium has certainly pulled a fast one on the new settlers… Also talk to a Consortium Representative or Settler Representative to get a nice boost before going out and about to harvest or fight anything. Look for journals or papers you can read to see some of the storyline going on. Actually lots to do out there and if you see a group running around, join them and have a grand old time taking out a karka or reef rider.
I was setting traps when he came forward and started attacking so ran to back of cave to an open space between traps and was never able to get far enough away from him to reset any traps so kept kiting him with the shortbow along with the seed turret and pet and eventually wore him down. He did manage to walk into some of the traps I had reset before we ended up at the back of the cave so maybe that helped with his vulnerability but it still took a while to take him down this way. If you are careful, there is enough open space to avoid the traps but I did get knocked into them two or three times so didn’t get the lightfoot achievement. Was glad to get him down in one try because outside was a karka fest so you couldn’t stand around out there very long. Gave up trying to find a group for the group one because of that.
Try guesting on another server to see if that triggers it.
Heheheh, I got my lobsta bib all ready….
ooh, nice to know! thanks.
You are sure you got all the points of interest for the map? There is one in a cave that looks like it is part of the big cave but is really a small cave at the north side of the island (entrance is near where the jumping puzzle starts) Just beware of the egg laying Karka & facesucker babies standing over the demolition guy there (never have seen anyone do this event yet either)
http://dulfy.net/2013/05/14/gw2-secrets-of-southsun-achievement-guide/
Shows what you need to get the Southsun Sightseer Achievement.
There are plenty of ‘safe’ spots to park yourself. You just need to find the spots upwards high enough that you don’t get noticed. Get up into the higher huts (go for the ones with bridges, though I did see a Karka take out a single standing hut but didn’t touch the bridged ones) There are also a lot of higher rocks to get up to out in the wilds that are reasonably safe. That or port over to Pearl Island. The boat where the Bank and Trading Post are is pretty safe as well. At the big fort there is a tower there by one of the entrances that is really high and a great place to stop if you have to go away for a bit (great view, too, for the Instigator battle). You just have to pick wisely where you park yourself and not plop down just anywhere.
The storyline is that folk are being resettled, so now there is a higher population, there are tensions and conflicts. The wildlife is upset so the area is more disrupted so it is to be expected to have a lot more going on within the populated areas and out on the plains than before. Obviously Southsun is not the R&R place the consortium is advertising.
I like the storyline and the ‘dangerous’ wild west aspect of the outposts and having to keep one’s wits about oneself when wandering afield. You definitely have to keep on your toes lest a Karka do a rollover on you or a Reef Rider whacks you from afar.
Spares and strikes, ups and downs, the Karka abides……
I use it and love it.
I use the joystick for WSAD movement, the side button to the joystick as the F key and the button below that as the M key. I put the Jump on G15 key and the Dodge on G19 because I can hit one with my pinky and one with my index finger while using my middle finger to whack things while the thumb is on the joystick moving. For fighting figure out what is most comfortable for your hand to lie on the pad and decide where you want the main weapon keys to be (ie. Weapon #1 is on the G4 key for me) and where the utility keys are most useful for you. Nice thing also is you can custom the keys to the profession you are in with the M1, M2 or M3 profiles.
It does take practice to get used to it so consider running around a city or fairly safe area to get familiar with all the keys. It also helps to make a diagram of the pad and write down what key has what command so you can look at it as you familiarize.
Wow, really interesting. Very enjoyable read and has me filled with anticipation now.
Problem with “disrupting the game for people who actually want to play” is sometimes those who “actually want to play” keep everyone else from getting anything at all game after game after game. That is why there are the instances. If one style of play is not your cup of tea, move to another where you can slam dunk others over and over and over with your crabtastical skills so they are awed and amazed. But allow those who may not have your skills to have a chance in other instances where they get help, support and some amount of fun out of playing this game.
Wiki also has the answer.. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Inventory
Good info, Resk. Thanks for the update. When I did mine, I would check the Dive achievement after to see if it had ticked up one and if it didn’t I knew for sure I had to repeat it.
For me it is the Char watching the Crab Toss and chortling periodically. He had me in stitches listening to him laugh.

Isle of Janthir has had groups in mid afternoons EST helping out folk on at least two days that I know of. It may be hit or miss to find the instance they are in but found them on my first try both days I went in. Usually they will tell you right out what they are doing as well.
I had planned on skipping this particular one achievement point as I did not want to waste my time on the JP just to do it. I have done JP’s before including the Mad King’s clock tower so I know that I am capable but my time is too precious for one measly achievement point that was not needed for completion.
As luck would have it I was walking by when some free ports were happening and I took the free ride.
Do I feel like I didn’t earn the title? No because I in fact DID earn the title regardless of this one achievement point.
Do I feel like I mastered that JP? Of course not because I got ported rather than did the JP.
Can I sleep at night knowing this? Like a baby.
What Grim said.
I tried many times to do this jumping puzzle and it a type that is beyond my abilities. Some jumping puzzles I can do, some I have struggled through to get and there are some I just cannot complete. I also have done everything else up to date in the achievements so would have gotten Southsun Stalwart regardless. If there had not been anyone kindly offering portals, I would have bypassed this one but since so many kind folk were helping out, I see nothing wrong in making their day by hopping into their portal. Many thanks to all the helpful folk during this event who have made it a more enjoyable experience and have shown what true community is.
For those who cannot do the challenge for a variety of reasons this is a nice alternative. It also gives people a good way of learning how to actually play the game without it being totally frustrating by being overwhelmed by game dominators. These were definitely the most fun to play since we were competing yet working together. And yes crab hot potato is a lot of fun. The all out blood or nothing folk were not to my taste and sucked the fun right out of even attempting to try for anything – I left quite a few of those before finding the helpful players. Hubby tried quite a few times also and gave up in frustration. I was not looking for an easy get to the achievement but was looking for a more level playing field where everyone there got a chance at getting the points they needed and learned what moves they needed to make in the process. I got lucky and fell into groups on several days who were showing people how it was played and it built up my confidence for this game. I never tried the Keg Toss before but because of this positive experience I will.

He said the one in Brisband Wildlands from the East End Waypoint needs the moves to complete.
Definitely check your Dive achievement after diving to make sure you got the dive.
