The balanced Economy

Inflation in the game isn’t inherently a bad thing. In some ways it’s good like waypoints and icy runestones effectively costing less money relative to one’s money supply. Since they’re sold by the system and not other players no one is losing out on their effectively lower rates.

They aren’t/won’t be scarce, despite being called “rare”.

Unfortunately if you only count drops and not guaranteed chest rewards rares live up to their name pretty well, and that’s only for the chance at an ecto.

Hi all,

Now, what about lodestones? Looking at this market, and especially on the charged one, changes have started and i don’t get the reason.
.

Somebody who had charged lodestones is dumping them.

Maybe he just wanted money.

It’s all speculation at this point. Even those with insider information are just speculating.

It looks like CoE is getting nerfed, & karma is getting nerfed, & spirit shards were nerfed. That’s three major sources of charged lodestones all nerfed. So even if charged lodestones pop up as a map reward or something, it could all even out on the supply side.

But there’s the demand side too. If the HoT new shiny doesn’t need charged lodestone, I don’t see how they keep their high demand.

You need lots of them for infinite light, bolt, and especially Mjolnir which combines the charged lodestone criteria for the mentioned swords (gift of lighting + 250 charged lodestones, meaning a total of 350 charged lodestones thus forcing one to grind, grind, and grind for gold to obtain them.)

I need the Stalwart chestpiece skin for my Revenant. It’d look perfect on him.

You could have some heavy scale though it’s kind of hard to tell it from the noob chain from a distance or with certain dyes. Too bad since I really want to use charred and cinders on it. It is still a nice set provided you have the right (Glint?) dyes though Carapace and the spikey Orr karma armor and dark templar look best so far.

After mystic forging some more I didn’t find any of the skins, but that was to be expected. Oh well, can’t help but try. If the skins aren’t in the mystic forge RNG table then you’re totally guaranteed not obtaining it.

I’ve seen some PvP boxes on sale where I can obtain the chance to win them but again, it’s only a chance and on the Wiki it states they can no longer be opened.

How to save dungeons

If I was the designer and put together some interesting encounters in the dungeon. But what players want is to skip the encounters as quick as possible to get gold in the shortest time. How can I get motivation to keep developing contents for dungeon?

Dev are humans who need appreciation and have fun. When heart was broken, it would be too late to do anything to change people mind.

I suspect the main reason behind the shift away from dungeon development is how seriously ANet toward the development of narrative. Each dungeon itself need a backstory behind it. Besides bosses mechanic it also involves a lot of resources to develop including script writing and voice acting. When they remove those story elements in dungeon design, that is what we get in current raids and fractals.

It’s just dungeons can be hard if you aren’t familiar but if you are you could keep running them. Sometimes they aren’t even fair. Sure it isn’t hard to make a hard dungeon, the hard part comes into play with making things both challenging and fair. It’s why sPvP is the fairest game mode. Sure some may complain about overpowered specs and classes but what’s stopping someone from rolling them? You can roll a condition guardian or dagger/dagger ele, you can’t roll a teagariff or dredge. PvE has the potential to be far more challenging but unfortunately a lot is for the wrong reasons. Players are limited by their camera, mouse, and keybindings. A program never has to worry about hitting the wrong key and consistently follows a formula. It won’t have camera issues.

Let the bosses have an advantage over the players, but a fair one that doesn’t totally invalidate crowd control builds or environments where players are totally locked out if they fall down.

This thread is pointless because ANet all but said they are done with them. If it wasn’t a source of tokens and story lore they would take it behind the barn and put it down.

The best suggestion I’ve heard was to translate the dungeon paths into fractals and keep the story mode in PvE only.

The problem with integrating them into fractals though is that fractals are random. If I want to run a certain fractal but not bother with certain fractals due to them having certain mechanics then tough luck, and it makes fractals less attractive than dungeons where you know what you’re getting.

Thanks. I’ve read some of it during on Google searches, like maybe seeing if I could mystic forge some buccaneer karma skins and eventually obtain a Stalwart piece since both are technically PvP sets so maybe it’d be within the same mystic forge cycle? I blew some karma on skins and didn’t get one, but I didn’t do a meaningful sample size though did notice a huge number of privateer skins.

Just add an additional ( invisible?) 1% to the account MF buff for every ‘subpar’ drop, and remove the extra MF whenever an ‘over-par’ drop occurs. Basically, just fudge the MF upward until a player is compensated for getting garbage instead of goodies.

Given the nature of averages wouldn’t it simply even out naturally? If you have an unlucky streak you’re due for better luck soon since you’ll either progress or regress to the mean. I had Silverwaste runs where I’d only obtain 3 ectos for an entire run and I typically receive more in T6 mats than I spend in gold on the bags. One time I even got two powerful bloods three times in a row! They have a decent droprate from the bags and at this rate I can naturally save up materials for the Stygian blade.

I’d open them on an 80 so you get the silk while you convert karma to linen. Between WvW and Silverwaste you should be obtaining some decent karma.

The conversion to cobs and recipes that use candy corn mitigates that material. We still have 19 million of them for sale but a lot of it is supply priced at or above twice the going rate (around 13.5 million priced above 34 c).

Snowflakes on the other hand have only a few popular uses and dropped in vast quantities as players did those side winter dailies this year. On top of that the shear number of gathering tools that also drop flakes simply compounded the problem. Tiny Snowflakes went from 8.5s with 28K for sale to 5c with 72K for sale in 3 days. And there’s been 11.5 million for sale now. Demand simply wasn’t there. There are over 11 million priced above that 5c price today for sale.

They need to have some kind of bulk snowflake eater. One flake for ice cream or rune or sigil isn’t going to help.

Imagine crafting snowman finisher charges, or a temp mini pet, or a temp snowball mail delivery (thwack! you’ve got mail). I’m spitballing here but you see what I’m getting at, they need to increase demand by some means.

On the positive side snowflakes being very cheap means that the cost of crafting from 400 to 500 goes down drastically as instead of using up powerful venom sacs and bones (mats needed for legendary crafting and sell for quite a bit) you can simply level up with snowflakes. As the armor that gets crafted from it is under a gold you could salvage them with a black lion kit for ectos and dark matters and even buy more giver’s exotic armor for just that purpose.

While they at it…can they fix the gold to gem ratio, it seems to be rigged at the moment.

Also gems to gold. $.10 per gold doesn’t sound bad, until you realize it translates into 1,000 gold for $100. That’s a couple of good current releases with 64-bit API’s right there.

So the game is based on grinding.

I love how people still complain about Ascended gear 3 years after it’s been out, as if it’s some new tier. The Ascended tier came out 3 months after the game launched, time to quit yer whining and get the gear that’s been top tier since literally 2012. There’s no excuse for it at this point. The gear treadmill complaints were appropriate in 2012, 2013, and possibly early 2014 (for those that really wanted to hang onto the “Anet lied to us all!” battlecry). But it’s almost 2016. Ascended is the top stat tier, has been the top stat tier, and will continue to be the top stat tier. It’s time to GET OVER IT.

The problem isn’t that it exists or even that it’s too expensive to make three full sets but rather it being mandatory for some content. It’s the top stat tear, extra stats from exotic won’t be felt if content assumes you have full ascended and would feel more like a deficit and full ascended the bonus won’t be felt either so it’d be like running a dungeon in full greens. It’s like you make this gear with these extra stats to reduce risk and last longer by having better damage output and mitigation then its purpose gets defeated when you can still go down like a wet noodle from some mechanic you can’t even see even with ascended.

maybe a legendary for leadership

I really love that idea…but how do you quantify it? I already mentioned the perfect one sometime ago: the red lion greatsword. It meets all the criteria:

1.It’s red, the color of leadership.
2.Has translucent lion swipes with each swing and sometimes a roar and lions are the animals of leadership.
3.It’s a greatsword, a weapon of leaders.
4.Footsteps would be red lion footprints.
5.Sword itself would be gold and red with a red maned lion’s face seen like looking out a window similar to Dawn or Twilight.

I don’t agree that legendaries should be accessible to the casual player since that would defeat their purpose. Somethings should be gated but still obtainable with the proper level of dedication.

Woah woah woah hold the phone! Why just raids? I know you mentioned PvP but there should be a legendary armor set released for the following criteria:

1.Win ranked major tournaments with all three classes of your armor class X amount of times. Like thief unlocks boots and shoulders, ranger unlocks torso and helmet, while engineer unlocks gloves and pants for example. Or the entire set at the same time after clearing the final hurdle.

2.Maintaining a certain win-loss ratio.

3.Obtaining relevant ranked dueling records for each.

4.Each class must be killed X number of times by said character.

I say the legendary PvP medium armor should look like the stalwart but have effects (they’d be dyable unlike the glowing achievement chest gloves) and like a Razer Naga Epic slowly change colors based off the dyes you input…wait, there’d be some interface hurdles there, maybe just keep the effects one uniform color then ^_^

Also, make PvP armors only obtainable in PvP! We don’t want PvE posers running around in PvP skins do we?

  • duelling in the jumping puzzle area, and attempting the jumping puzzle myself*

Oh so much this! You don’t know fun until you’re kicked or gusted off a small platform while doing the same to others. Shamans (WoW equivalent to Engineers roughly) made Eye of the Storm very fun (I typically hated that battleground though)

I had some fun obtaining my legendary though (such as the above mentioned jumping puzzle dueling) and even carried some level 50’s in an explorable mode. People were asking me if we should kick him and I said no, any group of 80s with all those extra exotic stats can clear an explorable, but the true test of skill comes from the ability to carry. Also, those hammer knights were fun we need more content like Twilight Arbor.

I’d wait for Cannonlake before going PCIe since by then they’d be optimized for it.

Gimme more rapiers and a parrying dagger sword skin so I can dual wield in style. It’s tough finding one-handed swords that don’t look like slabs of metal/cardboard/plant matter/organs/glass/plastic, and Whisperblade has a boring base skin.

Usoku’s Needle (bought one first year not expecting one to actually drop…and in the past month two dropped from Silverwaste bags) has a skin somewhat similar to a parrying dagger. I skinned both my wupwup and Zojja daggers with them for a little while.

And…organs? Stygian blade is meant to be creepy and is perhaps the most underappreciated weapon in the game. It’s understandable why it isn’t popular: if you have that much powerful blood and vicious claws then you’re halfway to your gift of strength for a legendary.

Jormag’s Needle is not nearly as cool relative to its cost. I don’t want to spend all those resources for a silly icicle, but it’s needed for the achievement. It honestly sounds like the perfect candidate for an ice themed dagger legendary. It would have that Magikarp appeal in that the original skin is very underwhelming and even disappointing if you made it without looking up the skin online but make for an amazing legendary by morphing into a more elaborate yet still functional dagger with effects.

Duel weilding swords in style is my second biggest goal in game for my warrior behind decking him out in full ascended (just made him shoulders so far) but Jormag’s Breath and Firebringer are a great combination.

We like it when they sell us stuff (especially outfits and armor skins) the problem is it’s a 50 dollar expansion that doesn’t have any advertised optimizations. Other games with less expensive expansions did drastic API overhauls. World of Warcraft has an untick option for use 32-bit client. I know this isn’t WoW, this is a game that came out in 2012 and not 2005 when emo bands and pop-punk roamed the Earth.

Revenant and elite specs sound nice but they actually throw balancing out of whack. Don’t have an overpowered class when HoT releases? Tough luck, by the time you get it to 80 it’ll just be rebalanced anyway.

You have Windows 8 so you may be running in 7 mode where it emulates 7 due to lack of native DirectX9 support. I don’t know much about 8 other than the terrible Metro interface but on 10 (an improvement though still inferior aesthetically to 7) it does so.

Looks like a memory dump problem. Try reducing some graphics settings and hope for the best.

“If one group of players can be held responsible for in game inflation, its dungeon runners because they handle the biggest gold faucet in the game.”

But you need to keep running dungeons to make up for the lost gold through trading post taxes, salvage kits, waypoints, and gathering tools. Inflation also means rewards are smaller relative to the run’s completion, so you need to run it even more effectively earning less per run.

The only viable and ethical way would be creating goods that demand it. Since there are already lots of awesome sword skins they could add in some good dagger skins (tear of Grenth and Jormag’s Needle are terrible…all that for an icicle skin seriously?)

“It was a super common material that sold for below vendor value. Now it is selling for nearly 4s a scrap!”

I get most parts and it may not be as nefarious as it sounds (Anet want to nerf leather drops? Yeah, they can keep their kittening leather). However…

Map rewards are specific, tangible rewards you receive from playing on a map. They allow players to balance overpriced items as well as seek specific materials for their personal goals without constant uncertainty. Map rewards are pretty great but are a constant enemy of scarcity. Map-reward materials can no longer be overpriced for any extended period of time because players now have the power to push the supply when needed. This shifts the power from the supplier of a rare good to the buyer, because the buyer now has the option to refrain from buying and still achieve goals, which is what we wanted.

Can someone post an English translation please? :/

Basically it means people aren’t forced to buy, which is somehow a bad thing to them. The thing is though we are forced to buy if we wanna make things in a reasonable time. Take charged lodestones, they are that expensive because of how rare they are, yet you’d need 350 of them for Mjolnir (250 charged lodestones plus 100 for the gift of lightning) or 250 for infinite light. People who don’t wanna make these or already have them sell of the lodestones, but due to the ludicrously low droprates it’s unrealistic for a player to farm all the way for these things. Even Crucible of Eternity doesn’t drop one every time.

It’s just another example of Anet killing farms. They hate farms and they have systematically gotten rid of every one. Also, they want people playing fractals and raids, so that will the the rewarding content for the game.

I don’t really agree with making all other content besides their pet ones unrewarding, but they do have a track record of killing farms and people more or less farm dungeons for money, so I figure the gold rewards for dungeons will be completely eliminated or drastically reduced.

But I have to farm in order to afford the dyes I want and gather the mats for ascended while I hate fractals since you don’t control which ones you get and the ones with meaningful rewards are agony gates in addition to being reward locked so even if I do have the infusions ready I can still only get level 3 rewards even at level 50. It’ll also drastically skew gold in favor of certain classes and in farming areas I already balance my strategy around tagging instead of what’s actually best for the event (e.g., instead of saving haste to get up after a knockdown and using sword/dagger for stunlocking I have to use haste and a shortbow to ensure tags before rangers and others burst them down)

Fractals also have these cheap mechanics, many of which are unintuitive. If you don’t know the secret, arcane mechanics you’ll just kitten people off for taking too long or doing something “wrong” that logically shouldn’t be wrong.

*There have been improvements. Fractals were a massive improvement over dungeons. *

I strongly disagree for the following reasons:

1.In dungeons everyone knows what to expect: you walk into Twilight Arbor, agree on a certain path, and know what to expect so you can balance your build and skills accordingly. You aren’t going to randomly be plopped into Crucible of Eternity.

2.Dungeons have no agony gating.

3.Fractals have way too many cheap instakill mechanics and ways to go wrong. On the one where you climb up a statues the wood planks are too narrow for example. The problem here is it increases the risk of falling, not too much of a problem for a solo jumping puzzle but there are four other people who just want to clear the thing without any bull.

“Seriously, why does extremely inflated prices seem like a good idea?”

There are both good and bad aspects to inflation:

The good: things with a fixed price such as master salvage kits and icy runestones that effectively become less expensive.

The bad: You make less money per grinding sessions as a single gold isn’t worth as much as it could be. Then again the drawback to deflation would mean needing to work longer to afford an icy runestone and a master salvage kit could actually take a meaningful chunk out of your income.

Waypoints, trading post taxes, logging axes, and salvage kits have a cost that adds up over time, that’s money that gets deleted out of the economy so to make up for that one has to grind in an area for longer for vendoring greens and blue level 80 leathers and trash to recoup that lost money.

Unfortunately this game is going in a lot of unpopular directions, crafting needs the pendulum to swing back in the players favor, it’s too costly making ascended and legendaries.

Balancing abilities and traits around wvw, pve, and spvp is a huge mistake, they should stick to one of the most successful models, rock, paper scissors.

I personally think Anet has decided to turn GW2 more into a grind fest to promote their TP sales, and they’re going to try squeezing every nickel out of HoT expac and burden the player base with all of theses unnecessary changes.

So whether we’re talking mat nerf, abilities nerfs, farming nerfs or any other nerfs clearly Anet has an end goal that is better that anything the player base can come up with.

So cheers Anet to 500 stacks of bleed on crafting/ gathering materials in Grind Wars2

Their class balancing is terrible. Thief used to be a good class (sure there was that permastealth WvW bug but that was fixed) as it was a 1v1 specialist but due to cries from the community (would anyone complain about an elementalist excelling in large groups and great combo fields? Didn’t think so) was nerfed, now it can’t really do much and was always weak in big zerg vs zerg encounters whereas other classes were weak in 1v1 but had great utility in 5v5.

I say they should just stick with balancing around 5v5 sPvP and that would mean some classes being better in large scale battles and others being stronger in 1v1. Rock paper scissors is also a good idea: heavy strong vs. medium, medium strong vs. light, and light strong vs. heavy but still balanced in a way where a skilled medium can defeat a skilled heavy, but the heavy would be coming into the battle with a skillset that counters the medium so while the medium could still beat the heavy if they’re both equally skilled then the heavy should win.

As for the grindfest yeah, the reason why people grind mats a lot in the first place is because of how much they need. Anet shouldn’t balance around grinders but people who play an average amount.

They also say they want to focus more on fractals. The major problems with fractals are twofold:

1.They’re random, so you could end up with a poorly optimized party with it.

2.Higher levels are agony gated, meaning you need to infuse gear, costing resources. People only wanna do the higher level ones because that’s where the rewards are, but it’s pointless because the infused gear loses a rune slot meaning it underperforms compared to regular ascended in WvW.

Dishonarble mention: cheap insta-kill mechanics that slow everyone down, not to mention needless camera obstructions on some of the jump over the deadly laser rollers, more coming than I have dodges, jumps risks landing on one, and the mouse gets too slippery to viably move between them.

As for the mat nerf it’s a terrible idea. You need 100 bolts of silk just for a bolt of Damask… A bolt of Damask (I know Damask and Damasks sound exactly alike but no, the lack of an s at the end of Damask isn’t a typo in case it wasn’t clear) And cloth drops are rare enough as it is. Not to mention that charged cores and lodestones have ludicrously small drop rates. I remember only lodestone drop from mobs and six from bags…after lots and lots of Silverwaste event farming.

I thought about it, but the fundamental problem with that armor set is it requires charged quartz, which is time gated. At least you can have six pieces in six days, but if you want to deck an elementalist out in full ascended celestial you’ll need to put that on hold.

Wanna hedge against inflation? Buy gold ^_^ Seriously, we’ve been long overdue for ascended jewel crafting for some time.

[suggestion] BL key shards

No shards, no scraps! I hate scraps of things. In Burning Crusade zones when I got a leather scrap I wanted to cry because it implied I’d have to work even longer to get my leatherworking up. Scraps of things is the third worst thing to happen to games behind fall damage and escort quests.

A 64-bit API upgrade to drastically reduce chances of crashing wouldn’t just be nice but actually standard by today’s gaming standards.

Not to crash at world bosses or simply at random due to memory issues on the program’s end.

what is the best warrior build?

I’m still trying to find out myself and even debating if I want kick on my skillbar. Pro: interrupts. Con: telegraphs and knocks out of melee range and even potentially out of someone else’s combo field (though sword 2 is a gap closer).

I’m also debating if I want zealot’s boots (my thief can make zealot exotic and ascended insignias) or berserker’s. I will have berserker body armor, shoulders, and jewelry (except for pendent) and soldier’s pants, gloves, and helmet. Since Zealot has berserker stats but with healing power in place of ferocity it makes sense to put it in place of a berserker piece so damage isn’t really sacrificed too much as I’ll still have increased power and crit chance from precision. Since I have a berserker stat ascended back item I might even go cleric’s boots instead, but then again the extra damage from zealot’s or berserker’s would be nice.

Basically I’m building for single target lockdown with ascended sword (berskerker) + shield (celestial) and hammer (soldier’s).

As for your statement to being no best build you’re wrong, metas develop in various parts of the game because it’s superior in that game mode, which is typically by design as developers make, albeit not explicitly usually, PvP specs and PvE specs. I’ve seen certain people complain about their spec being underpowered in PvP in other games, but they were using a spec designed for dungeons not PvPing.

Edit: The ascended heavy armor Keeper recipes were far more expensive than I thought, so I’m making him half soldier’s, half berserker’s, and giving him a couple of zealot’s rings instead.

That’s what they get for making a 32-bit API in a game they knew would be released in the 10’s when everyone has 64-bit systems for obvious reasons.
