don’t worry i’m sure they’ll reintroduce and ruin the value of the 2012 skins.
(despite clearly saying that they wouldn’t a few years back.)
What value? I tried TPing my devil horns and witch hat (they were unlocked anyway) but shrugged and went “meh”.
I like the horns, they look authentic enough and don’t interfere with a hairstyle.
To paraphrase a quote, “The true nature of a person is revealed when given anonymity.”
So true. When people are anonymous and/or feel immune from consequences then you see what they truly are.
I’m personally consistent. What you see is what you get.
Some women at cons encounter some hostility (but mostly “hostility”) and other groups (specifically non-geeks) but this is because those outside the ingroup make us feel self-conscious. Can I be myself around this person? If not then the other would make insiders feel uneasy at a convention. It isn’t because of sexism (in most cases) why guys don’t like girls at cons but rather they introduce a whole other dynamic where you’d have to carefully watch yourself to maximize chances of being seen as dating potential, pressure that isn’t present within all male groups (the real nonsexist reason why Freemasons and country clubs used to be men only? I’ll reserve judgment until further research).
It’s like when two friends agreed to church swap for a Sunday. The white friend made the typical church goers uneasy with her mere presence, not saying or doing anything. The regulars at her friend’s church reported feeling self-conscious, which can be quite uncomfortable. I don’t remember where I read it, likely from Tim Wise material. It’s the same dynamic at cons full of geeks.
To paraphrase a quote, “The true nature of a person is revealed when given anonymity.”
Look on the bright side: you too have license to be an obnoxious troll. Nearly everyone keeps their online selves and real life selves and lives segregated. I don’t agree with attempts to integrate real life and online such as Facebook.
Yes whoever harassed the OP should be punished, but that’s up to Anet’s discretion. They can send a personal email to the owning accounts to ensure the parents find out (since they’d likely have bought the game for their kids.) Boys will be boys but harassment isn’t acceptable.
Racials are disabled in PvP but in PvE the human racial is great especially for a thief or others with weak elite skills. Avatar of Melandru has a long charge time AoE snare, can remove conditions from a group near him, passive stability, and summon healing wells. Since thief doesn’t normally have access to such skills it compliments him nicely. Asura has a good radiation field racial but my Asura is an elementalist so fiery greatsword and tornado beat it out by far.
Yes shadow refuge can heal while removing conditions (I’m traited for it) but the AoM healing doesn’t overwrite other more valuable combo fields that do burning while in a place like Tequatl you’ll really want the stability Melandru offers so you can remove conditions as they stack. It’s best to avoid orange circles, but isn’t totally realistic since dodging out of them typically lands into another one.

Since perfect balance is pretty much impossible I say go the rock papper scissors route. If an equally skilled heavy and light face each other the light wins, heavy beats medium, but medium beats light. This is assuming equivalent meta gear and equal skill for each and not builds designed to counter only a specific class (like full soldier’s can try against ele, since elementalist can invalidate ferocity and precision when attuned to earth)
Anyone ever try out a settler amulet for a burn/healer guardian?
OR we can just remove hearts entirely….
I mean that is what the game was supposed to be designed around to begin with, hence why after you get to Orr there are no more hearts.
Hearts are needed to unlock armor vendors and are a decent source of experience though.
How in the world would anyone think it appropriate to discuss sexual things and some rather perverted and abusive sexual things in map chat?
This is internet. I would be more surprised if this did not happen.
I had to pop into this thread to mention how this EXCUSE needs to end. “This is the internet” does not excuse a person for being an anti-social neanderthal. Hiding behind a wall of anonymity shouldn’t be a viable way of saying things that your family would be ashamed off, your boss would fire you for, and sometimes could get you thrown in jail if at all it was publicly said.
Unfortunately thanks to the “it’s the internet, dude” attitude, some of this had bled through the 4th wall into actual day-to-day conversation by children/teens who have grown up knowing the internet their entire life. It is getting way out of hand and social morality has been crumbling because of it. Respect, something that used to be normal, is becoming a scarcity.
That’s what all old people say (not saying you’re old just it’s something they do) in their respective generations and blame any current tech or trend for it. “Back in my day kids were respectful then this rock and roll thingamagig comes along no they aren’t respectful anymore!” “Respect has gone the way of the dodo with the advent of television!” Back in their day they too were disrespectful brats by the standards of their elders, and if they weren’t they were teased by their peers.
Defiance has needed to go away since it was first brainstormed as an idea… Other than that, we wait for raids and hope it makes other, non DPS centered play styles something other than a pointless amusement.
Defiance needs to go away for bosses too.
Oh, ratings are very much meaningless in reality, but they are there, and people that are younger than said ratings shouldn’t really be the ones catered to when it comes to content and such, since they aren’t, officially, suppose to play the game in the first place.
But if they want to play then so long as a parent doesn’t mind they should play. People shouldn’t just stick to stuff that’s “intended” for them. If you’re a 10 year old who loves violent video games, but society deems you “unworthy” to play such games there’s a very clear values dissonance, so you do what you can to sneak such a game or TV show in. The “this stuff isn’t for you” attitude adds to its appeal, why should grown ups hog all the good stuff for themselves (not that there’s anything good on TV except for some old cartoons and shows but still) Gamestop employees fortunately don’t care and Steam certainly doesn’t either.
is rather irrelevant though, considering that the game actually have a T-rating. So minors shouldn’t be playing it in the first place.
Ratings are totally meaningless and only there to appease uptight parents. I know of 12 year olds who play GTA5 and even myself played Mortal Kombat when I was 10. They disabled blood and fatalities unless you entered a special code, so I found the code and enabled them playing the game as it was meant to be played. Despite Moral Kombat “warping my fragile little mind” as Cartmen would put it that I never turned out to be a serial killer.
Funny how ever since more people got the internet and gaming went more mainstream we’re seeing more of these complaints. This is the biggest problem with the Internet and gaming in general becoming more mainstream: these new people want to impose their will on the established audience by changing stuff for their own tastes instead of ours. You are the reason why we have to watch fan subbed or dubbed animes, you are why we complain about games becoming too easy or reboots not being as good. “Won’t you please think of the children!” The children meanwhile don’t like you because you took away their Beavis and Butthead and sanitize stuff making things boring for them.

During the past week myself and other female players have been subject to disgusting and very abusive map chat and harassment(mostly in eotm). I have made some reports (as others have) but wanted to post here too (without names). How in the world would anyone think it appropriate to discuss sexual things and some rather perverted and abusive sexual things in map chat? This needs to end fast as we do have minors playing the game with us!
“Minors” are the ones mostly saying those things in chat.
Are you keyboard turning or what?
Nope, i’m saying mouse rotations are not having equal acceleration as basic mouse movement. and it’s frustrating
What’s your DPI? I have 4800 DPI, which is quite sensitive and find I turn the camera fast. I’m a lefty too yet I overcome that. Sometimes it’s annoying to readjusting the camera to make infiltrator’s arrow or the ele lightning teleport within a reasonable time though :(
I should also say: “Creating more skills and the situations for which those skills apply”… by extension this means creating situations where such skills would apply. A great example of a ‘half way there’ step forwards Dragon Hunter. It’s all about traps by the look of things. Unfortunately, we have no content what so ever in the current game which really would need such traps or be engrossingly fun to use them. Skills are for situations and situations reflect adaption to skills. It’s a biome. You’re getting there more and more. Good luck!
If you’re a thief you can set up a trap on the stairs of a Silverwaste fort and watch enemies trip.
The Irish Gaelic pronunciation for Samhaim is Sow-en, Sow-an, Soow-en depending on the area you are in. It makes me cringe to hear people (hollywood and non) pronounce it Sam-haym. Almost as bad as calling male witches “wizards” or worse “warlocks” lol. GAME ON
Wait, what’s wrong with wizard? Sounds cooler than elementalist or mage I think. Warlock sounds cool too but that’s a different area of expertise. No use calling an astronomer a biologist after all ^_^
Yea sure it’s grindy but not impossible, farming sw makes around 20g+ an hour.
Yeah, because we should balance everything around a broken farm that will eventually get nerfed anyway.
If it gets nerfed to be more in line with the rest of the game no one would go anymore though since the monsters have cheap mechanics (chain knockdowns, high damage, and quite tanky) so it’ll make Orr far more attractive.
And I still remember Colin said in the announcement that GW2 should be all about playing the challenging content itself rather than setting a high requirement you need to grind for even before you start.
And now this? Such irony. Why should players even attempt this knowing it is impossible to do without gear grind?
Also if you have a non-meta statset for ascended you’ll need to start from square one even if you wanna raid.
You honestly believe anets new endgame content, “most challenging content” should require basic exotics or the actual endgame gear (ascended)???
Yeah because the extra stats from ascended can actually be felt instead of feeling like I’m just in rares or masterworks.
Ascended does matter anyway. In WvW it can be the difference between almost downing someone or actually downing them.
most asuran armor =/
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura_female_light_armor
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asura_female_medium_armorbut….one in particular…
ugliest? idk…
creepiest..yesthis is a FEMALE asura…keep that in mind….(…..Anet just that lazy?)
(seriously why do they wear 1 piece swimsuits if they allowed to show off this much skin o.0)
Yeah that is awful I like the Inquest, Apostle, and Nightmare Court sets on female Asura.
Get an i5-6600k (i7s don’t give a performance increase in most games as of yet, so they’re not really worth it unless you’re streaming or doing picture/video editing) with a Noctua DH-15, a decent motherboard that will support overclocking, a 970/290x/980 depending on how much power you want, a decent power supply (check the power supply tier list, get a top tier 650-750W unit), 8 GB of ram, and whichever case you like. A Samsung 850 Evo and a 1-2 TB HDD should round it out.
For MMOs a 970/290x should be plenty of GPU (they have similar performance, which one pulls ahead depends on the game; 290xs are way cheaper here in the US so I’d go with one over a 970 all day long.
Spend the rest on a quality mechanical keyboard (Ducky, WASD/Code, Filco, CoolerMaster; avoid Razer due to low quality and (imo) Corsair (due to a nonstandard bottom row) and a decent mouse (Logitech of some sort). You’ll also be able to get a monitor if you need one.
This computer should easily last you years without upgrades, and building it is a breeze; watch Mewegg’s how-to guides youtube and you’ll be good to go.
Both sites let you choose a custom setup and with how cheap everything is it’s not really worth looking at buying the parts separately to build yourself as custom pc shops can build it for you for the same price if you’re looking for new parts.
Have you ever actually looked at prices? Barring some epic deal, building your own will save you an easy few hundred dollars.
So…Fermi’s an ironic handle then? My first GPU was a Fermi 560 Ti ^_^ It was Asus cooled and 20% cooler than the competition…and a famous little girl show appropriated the phrase lol!
AMD may be cheaper but you won’t get Shadowplay with it and AMD is notorious for drawing a lot more power.
My budget is 1.5k – 1.7k. I’ve never built my own gaming pc before and so far I’ve always played on laptops, missing out on a lot of features and good graphics.
Now I decided to get a good desktop, but I need to know the best specs I can get with that budget and if I’ll finally be able to run gw2 and other mmos, like wow or ff14,to max settings with no problems. (I can stretch 100-200€ more if necessary)
PS: how much painful is it to build a rig? Also, how long can I expect this pc to hold? Will I need to change stuff already within 6months-1y?
Thanks for your attention
1.Hold out until Nvidia’s Pascal cards are released. Get an aftermarket cooled 1070 or 1080 from Gigabyte or Asus and full tower case to ensure maximum air flow. Corsair and Lian-Li are good brands.
2.Buy a Skylake i7 and appropriate non-cheapo Asus board with Corsair liquid CPU cooling.
3.Buy at least 16GB of DDR4 RAM.
4.Get a good 1000w PSU.
5.Get an SSD for your main boot drive.
6.Do all of the above in 2016 while keeping up on the latest tech news to ensure whatever you buy won’t be obsolete the following month.
Optional: Noctua case fans.
1000w sounds like overkill but you’ll want the overclocking and upgrading headroom. You might wanna get into video editing someday and notice that even 16GB seems inadequate or you might wanna SLI GTX 1070’s. For a PSU brand Corsair and Seasonic are great, go with at least gold 80 for power efficiency.
Revealed is totally worthless against most classes whereas burning hurts everyone. Maybe increase duration instead since necros can transfer conditions.
This has to be a joke thread, then again I heard people complaining IN-GAME that the thief buff was uncalled for cause their already “too OP” with their D/P weapon set (I kid you not thats what they said about our only decent pvp set)
One of the map chats today – tried to avoid most others by staying logged out.
Of course the complainer is a necro. Rogue like classes typically hard counter warlock like classes except in this game there’s no cloak of shadows to invalidate all those conditions. Closest thing is a shadow refuge, which removes only one condition per tick and susceptible to knockbacks and reveal. Heavy armor classes traditionally give medium armor classes trouble and guardian looks like a hard counter to both revenant (another heavy) and thief.
Not anymore, people. With the introduction of the new and improved earth eles, you can no longer burst them down! 100% uptime of 40% damage reduction in melee range! 100% immunity to critical hits in earth attunement! Behold the new meta!
100% immunity to critical hits in earth attunement
Time to adapt. This totally invalidates precision and ferocity so long as they’re in Earth. Earth also gives nasty bleeds and has a projectile reflect at least for staff eles so soldier’s would be optimal against them. However, a good ele won’t stay in Earth forever (if they do something’s broken somewhere) so some of the precision and ferocity would become useful again eventually. Fighting elementalists is an uphill battle, though in MMO rock paper scissors light armor classes traditionally hard counter heavy armored while mediums take out light and heavy being good against medium. It’s why warlocks drop like rocks to rogues while paladins and death knights are an uphill battle (in Cataclysm, haven’t played WoW since then) but still possible to beat. On a frost mage the same issue, although I did run into a warrior that gave me a very hard time in a battleground.
Still, this is Guild Wars 2 not WoW but the rock papper scissors scheme is typically consistent.
“You use it for mainly for cloth, since Silk is worth more then gossamer, and wood generating items (for a chance of ancient logs). You can use it on metal generating salvage if you need the mithril or Orci, but both of these can be mined pretty easily. For Leather its better to sell rather then salvage (unless its T2-4) because T5 leather is basically worthless, and T6 leather is cheap enough to buy of TP. "
Yeah about that. You know something went wrong with economy balancing when a T5 outvalues a T6 material. I’d still stock up on gossamer and leather (happens through natural gameplay) since they can make new ingredients that’ll require them or even nerf the droprates. Silk skyrocketed with the introduction of bolt of damask and three scraps being needed to forge a bolt. Since the excess has been taken out I think they should go back to 2 scraps and in case more leather is needed for manufacturing I’m getting all my Elonian leather squares out of the way now in case resource requirements go up like with silk.
I like the new change, not that it was bad before.
Sorry, but this would be awful. Elona is a mingling of African and older Middle Eastern culture, in Vabbi’s case. There’s established lore for the undead controlling the area now, and Asuran cowboys would have no place in this. It sounds like you just like the idea of Asuras in cowboy outfits, and are trying to force it into the story anywhere convenient.
Not just Asura but an overall pirate (first arc) and cowboy (second arc) storyline where they’re center stage. Why are mordrem the focus before pirates get the chance? There’s established lore for the undead controlling the area but that can be worked with. A corrupt Norn sheriff could stage a coup against the undead king after the players defeat him ending up more powerful than Palawa Joko.
“Anet should get on this directly after they introduced the alien invaded cantha region.”
Vampires! :D Aliens if they ever come should be quite a ways away, maybe GW3 away. There’s lots of creative scope with aliens since they’re…well, alien they don’t need conforming to established precedent or real world inspirations. The potential for entirely new ecosystems (doesn’t need to be realistic) is vast so hopefully they won’t waste any potential there on a snow or jungle planet.
If they’re able to shatter the light barrier (not possible in real life but that doesn’t matter here) then the power gap between Tyria and the invaders would be so huge that there’d be no way players could plausibly overcome them. It goes back to Luke Skywalker being able to beat any medieval hero in a fight. Luke’s civilization is so much more advanced drawing upon thousands of years and tens of planets’ collective wisdom and knowledge for his training. Legolas on the other hand may be a magical elf with absurd reflexes (surpassing even Batman’s?) but being from a medieval society would be at a monumental disadvantage.
I’m looking forward to the hexed and witch outfits! :D Especially witch since I plan on making a female asura ranger ^_^
Here’s my wishlist:
1.Fist weapons and a monk class. The monk would use fists (weapons like brass knuckles and gloves they will use leather and metal to forge), hammers, and duel pistols. The hammer skills would be like a warrior’s while the pistols would be like thieves’ but without stealth and instead of daze the #4 ability gives confusion. A guns akimbo trait would enable double the confusion application.
2.Rifles for thieves.
3.Warrior with extra gap closers that apply stun or cripple.
“4 skill would be a really strong knockback like 600 feet away and maybe daze your foe for one second.20 seconds cool down”
Problem there is knockbacks are mostly used for griefing events, all that would do is ensure people just getting to an event can’t tag it. I think we need to move in the opposite direction, add a windup time to rapid fire, tone down some damage, and increase knockback cooldown. Ranger has druid so they’d already be compensated for it.
People love to throw AoEs and burst lots of things down at once, so a skill to pull monsters in (like an AoE scorpion wire)
Sorry that you were too late but the fact of the matter remains that when you snooze you lose.
It’s my favorite holiday! I decorate my house to the rafters, and I love, LOVE the event in Tyria. I could tell y’all sappy stories about my first Halloween in Lion’s Arch, but suffice to say that I’m really looking forward to it.
(And thanks, Adula — it was too tasty to resist!
)
On my first Halloween (as in the exact day) in Lion’s Arch I won a precursor in the forge:
OMG! You take one aspect of the game (PvP) and generalize that the whole game is tiring and boring .Theirs more to the game than just PvP .
But PvP whether it’s structured or WvW is the star of the game. Players share advantages and lack AI limitations so it’s fair so long as you have a good class and spec for it.
No! Not the black lion salvage kit! I love those things they greatly help with dark matter collecting!
With electro blue and flare in the first picture. Tried for the polyester look with shadow violet on the tuxedo but went with shadow abyss instead since in screenshots you can’t see the subtle purple shimmer…just like in real life pictures It’s how you can tell a wool from a polyester tuxedo in real life mostly the wool won’t have the small purple shine.
Mostly soldier’s with three pieces of berzerker jewelry. Rifle and hammer seem like a good combination for crowd control. Kill shot is highly telegraphed so you can force people to blow a dodge to avoid it, or have a mesmer or thief stealth you to maximize your sniping potential. Hammer will be your main weapon, it’s a no nonsense, no frills weapon that does its job.
Well he’s not wrong, Thief didn’t really need more damage…they needed a buff to everything else..
Have you tried in nearly all ascended in a lower zone trying to kill things? Some things take way too long to kill, maybe 10 or so seconds or even longer when just autoattacking to avoid triggering the mob’s interrupt or blind skills.

I would like to get a refund but I’ve already spent my 4000 gems and don’t know if they can still refund me.
Ouch! You could have gotten a whole AAA or two Steam sale games with that.
Seriously? Things for thief were so bad that if a team with a thief lost the thief would be blamed simply because it’s underpowered.
Thief has no real way to wash conditions, is vulnerable to reveal, no good and consistent healing options, and the “elite” basilisks venom is a joke since it only last for a second. Since thief lacks in so many areas in addition to having situational requirements to get the most out of its damage as well as an initiative mechanic (if initiative is low then all your weapon skills essentially share a cooldown) then thief needs some good attack power to make up for it.
I hope mounts will come in a way that offers players a 25% speedboost while on em, just like the static speedboost signets and traits.
A player will not automatically be dismounted while getting into combat but can dismount when they use any of the skills on their skillbar.
I don’t think mounts break immersion at all. Just don’t introduce mounts that do not make sense, like unicorn mounts. On the other hand, I dislike the unicorn bow, unicorn finisher and a lot of the weird minis and those got in the game :P
Introduce Dolyak, warg, drake mounts and whatnot seems sensible to ride in the Guild Wars universe.
This guy pretty much got it when it comes to mounts. My guardian and Mesmer would be hppy! Also, make entering it so that attacking dismounts you, but entering in cmbat doesnt dismount you. You cant mount until you are out of combat (to prevent WvW wussies).
As far dueling, give people options to auto-decline duels, however make it default to have it unchecked.
I honestly think that Anet is being very cautious about this but never have I seen them state they are opposed to any of this.
In fact, I would say they have been trying to “revolutionize” dueling but so far have failed; PvP custom arenas which they have to scratch since not many people wanted/asked for them as far as dueling goes. Now guild halls, but soon enough once people realize how difficult it might be for a non-guildy to get there since they have to get out of their way, and then fight in a place that will get boring after 3-4 months, I foresee the same batallion of people coming back and requesting a proper, legit open world system. My guess as to why it hasnt been ut into the system yet? Spaghetti code that doesnt allow for the technology to be there yet.
Speaking of WvW wussies we need a /chicken emote so we can mock chickens. ^_^
I agree we need open world dueling if I just make it to the end of a quest chain but don’t get credit because some ranger used rapid fire that prevents me from tagging I can spam duel. Should be really fun on my guardian or warrior.
Why don’t we combine all three, dueling, mounts and gliding?
I actually had to do that in Cataclysm for unlocking the Flameward Hippogryph quest chain. Well, the dueling (okay, jousting) wasn’t PvP but still.
The ice bow nerf is detrimental for two reasons:
1.No one ever uses it in PvP and rarely in WvW.
2.PvE content will take longer to clear.
I say reverse the nerf.
If the time it takes to clear content is to be the only, or primary, consideration for game balance then all skills should do more damage in a single hit than any mob has health.
It’s only used in PvE where balance isn’t important. In high level fractcals warriors with full soldier’s still get one shotted making berzerker far more valuable. Where’s the balance there? Bosses get defiance, have large HP pools, large damage output, and sometimes cheap mechanics like Molten and Mai Trin where you can get knocked off, have to watch multiple bosses (so you can’t just watch tells from one) and in Mai Trin’s case you need to lure her into a blue field shot by Turak (walk into electricity shot by someone with a red name! Sure is intuitive!) They also have more attacks than you have dodges so even if you know to dodge you can’t because endurance limits.
With such cheapness players don’t owe bosses anything less than the best and most efficient strategies being employed.

I’ve been noticing lots of rangers and necros in starter zones, maybe everyone caught on that their elites will be overpowered?
Thief gets short straw ?
Dragon hunters would beg to disagree…
Dragon hunters actually received new animations and spell effects, so that already puts them on a step above thieves.
Not to mention dragon hunter is a cool name while they’re a hard counter to revenants.
If fractal bosses after a certain point didn’t one shot full soldier geared warriors defeating the purpose of that armor set big time then people wouldn’t need to ask for zerker.
Need some long overdue dye pack releases. The anniversary sale at least brought back Taimini but we need deathly and toxic dye packs to be released again too!
I don’t want to be that guy but…
Maybe it’s better this way? That whole “PvE that doesn’t suck” request was made on his watch, and Anet seems to be moving in that direction with HoT
Not wishing Mr. Flannum Ill, but maybe it just wasn’t a good fit and the new design teams can actually fix some of the (totally unintentional) mess he left behind.
Who is taking up the mantle of lead designer now? (Say Josh Foreman or Robert Gee please.)
Mai Trin is very counterintuitive (logic says stay out of electricity shot by someone with a red name…) while Silverwaste mobs are cheap as all heck if the player group is too small.
The game is largely steampunk which is 19th century fantasy. Weren’t cowboys 19th century too? So they wouldn’t be anachronistic. It’s not like the cowboys would be everywhere, the vestiges of the old Elonian civilization are living on the edge and struggling for survival against countless forces, and the (good, largely Asuran) cowboys and cowgirls give them hope. I guess no one would like vampire themed Cantha :(
Duke Freddy: “So it was you who defeated the very Sheriff Jerome who made even the gods and dragons tremble with fear! Little do you know I’m more powerful than even him!” (since he’d come later logically he’d be stronger than a previous expansion’s boss)
