Uninstall the game and don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
I currently have a Thief at 80 and an Elementalist in progress at 48 and honestly, even though yes, the Ele drops mobs in a single shot quite often, I preferred the Thief overall.
I don’t weigh in on the forum very often, simply because I don’t do either dungeons or PvP, so I don’t feel I have the experience to give a valid opinion on most topics.
However, given that you sound like you’re leveling up with the same preferences I have (open world, 100% map completion, exploration based), I would recommend the Thief from purely an enjoyment perspective. Ele is so OP that it’s almost boring.
My thief is traited for survival, using acrobatics, trickery and deadly arts, and with the passive health regen on both signet of malice, and Assassin’s Reward trait, and condition removal when using caltrops, you can build out to be pretty darn resilient, for a low health class. Plus, it’s just freaking fun to play, with stealth and the steal mechanic.
Acrobatics is trash, switch to Shadow Arts until HoT is released. Thief can be fun but Shadow Arts is simply a more practical traitline since you get condition removal and healing in stealth.
“Sexism is
prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, on the basis of sex.”
I don’t like that definition because it’s too broad. I’m not gay but apparently I’m “sexist” for not dating men. A better definition would be wanting to reinforce roles, like telling women they must stay in the kitchen or forcing them to wear burqas. I’m not sexist since I believe in equal rights.
I had a feeling the jungle explorer was going to be temporary. I’d strongly recommend it, you can do so much with it just a simple color change can radically alter the feel and function of the outfit. With enameled generation or maybe sand dye it can be a desert themed outfit while shadow blue (actually distinct from shadow abyss on it too! I personally tested it
) can have yet another theme.
Yeah, wish you could change the colour of the hardware on it (buckles etc.), as well, so it goes with gold weapons.
What I do like about it, is that it is one of the few (or perhaps the only?) outfits/skins that has a kind of baggy top half, as opposed to being figure-hugging and/or or a long coat.
Would be nice it they did some more armour/outfits with that kind of silhouette, but without all the packs and so on.
True. I like the military effect of the outfit though wish the boots could by dyed by themselves. Yeah looser (or any really) options are always good.
What I don’t like is whenever an Eastern game or anime gets drastically changed in many ways due to values dissonance or even simple localization. This is why fandubs and subs are better than official anime translations. Even entire story arcs and relationships get edited out as to not “offend” certain American sensibilities
“Any attempt to point out differences in biology, lore, and that what these 2 different non human species consider sexually attractive is not the same as humans, runs up against the lore destroying ’I want my Asura/Charr to wear dresses because I want them to look feminine. What does it matter to you what they wear?”
That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have options for Charr and Asura to have dresses.
“in most cases I think the male/unisex outfit is the better choice for charr.”
They can still have a society and belief system like you describe but might simply like dresses better than male clothes.
The way the word “creepy” gets thrown about in this and other threads just for liking cute things or simply making a pretty female character to look at (God forbid people like looking at attractive members of the opposite gender) is disturbingly cringeworthy and overly judgmental.
The member of the opposite sex referred to is drawn to look like she is five years old. If that is what is attractive to some teens and adults then I am completely fine with certain “relationships” being edited out of US releases.
As to dresses for Char, would a race whose entire culture is centered around war want to wear clothing that impedes mobility?
Some children might want to play the game and some characters looking young isn’t an attraction thing. You have childlike Asura and I wouldn’t consider them sexualized. A major issue in America is people assume everything outside of a certain set norm is “sexualization” and its rooted in the puritan ethos. While America may think something is “oversexualized” Japan may think it conveys innocence and cuteness. Judgment should be reserved for the individual to decide if something is sexualized or not. Just because something is cute or pretty doesn’t mean there’s some weird “sinister” motif behind it.
A dress would impede mobility even less than pants since you don’t have the closed crotch. It depends on the cut of dress but a flowy loose dress wouldn’t.
Try running through brush or a forest in a loose, flowy dress then again wearing pants and come back and report how that went.
Jesus Christ people it’s a video game! If people want options they should be available. Why are people way too obsessed over lore? If lore or story gets in the way of a good idea it should be changed accordingly. Marvel and DC retcon and change stuff all the time.
All I want is gender-dimorphic armor sets. It’s really just a simple extension of what is already present within the game, and a few cultural sets are already dimorphic, so it’s definitely possible within the engine. No one is forcing you to wear anything you don’t want to wear.
Like hell they aren’t. It’s ridiculous how difficult it is to find a pair of pants for a human female.
I don’t care what armor sets they put into the game as long as they don’t go against the lore to do it. But “feminine” sets for Asura and Charr DO go against the lore of the game and consequently should not exist in the game.
I strongly disagree with you. They should be in the game because they’re cute. As for pants the girl in the picture is wearing some. They’re nice looking pants too.

Why not men in dresses indeed. We have female characters who wear pants after all. Sometimes you need to have a bit of humor:
It’s not a dress but a funny dye combo.
On the bright side we can still stealth rifle warriors to get in headshots unseen.
The problem is you’re so squishy on thief you’ll eventually need it.
I almost never use stealth on myself in dungeons/fractals, just like I never use water on myself as an ele.
Why would you if you never do enough damage to draw the aggro.

[bold] What about 90% of PU mesmers not really giving a kitten whether or not there are 5000 reveals out there?[/bold]
The fact they don’t care needs to while all kinds of thieves do should tell us something.
I think fist weapons with a monk release would be great, but that’ll take lots of rebalancing. Monk would have:
-Fists
-Hammer
-Pistols
The hammer skills would be similar to a warrior’s while the pistols would mostly be like a thief’s pistols skills except black powder would be replaced with a skill that causes confusion. The monk would also use initiative like a thief.

I have a 4k monitor and sometimes during big events taking screenshots crashes things
Jungle explorer will be the new bunny ears ^_^
Options I would pay for.
Particle slider
“Hide all Backpacks/wings” toggle.
The core art in this game is very good, when not obscured by cheesy effects.
“Hide all legendary effects” toggle.
But how would you know if I have an awesome quiver?
For example in Asura Fotm full meta/zerker party kill boss less then 20 sec.Thief not strong in pve.He helps to skip mobs or doing dredges ,but he dont give anything to party and his dps =like warrior, but warrior give banners,re-stack might, give 150 power etc.
I think everybody who knows me would disagree – Stealth is a powerful tool in pve, not just to skip mobs.
The problem is you’re so squishy on thief you’ll eventually need it.
How about the opposite? The Noble count outfit is utterly useless on female characters. It turns from lovely suit into swooshy hoop dress.
I love the noble countess outfit on female characters ^_^ It’s so classy and ladylike.
salvaging things isn’t much of a problem, really. I have 120 slots in my main’s inventory and, yeah, salvaging can be tiresome, it is leagues better than it used to be (remember when you had to confirm salvage of green rarity?)
the clicking nightmare most definitely comes from all the bags that ALSO contain things to double click on, AND things that require salvaging. Open a box, get another box, etc. Silverwastes and Wintersday events are infamous for this. sometimes, when I am just too frustrated at the clicking I don’t even bother salvaging the green rarity or lower, just feeding it all to the merchant only because it’s fewer clicks overall.
Please give us a right click – salvage all and/or open all option. Please do it right, and let it both play by normal inventory rules and allow us to set a rarity gate. some people may want to auto salvage up to rare, while others only want to auto salvage up to uncommon.
Even the cloth? I salvage all cloths since even one silk scrap goes for more than the vendor is willing to pay for the armor. Not to mention I need silk for completing ascended armors.
There is nothing feminine about charr fem its just male with smaller head.
What are you talking about? They are perfect gems of femininity!
Behold this fine specimen I saw at the Lion’s Arch beach:They could had done it like this and they didn’t.
In fact i never played a game which is so human biased like this one.
in tera however human is my least favored race.
I use to chose magic races in games but
i play here only asura and human because the rest is so boring.
Char isn’t boring! I count Norn as human only much bigger.
Interesting. Note this is being done post anniversary and pirate day sale when players are depleted of gold and gems on hand. Might as well put up a flashing Buy More Gems sign next to them.
Interesting it’s not ALL armor and outfits, just “old” ones. Finishers surprise me, not that I collect them. I thought they were popular among the PvP/WvW crowd. However one elite specialization now has a skill that can end in a finisher.
Should have bought the eyepatch on Saturday’s sale. Arrrgg.
The jungle explorer isn’t old especially compared to the chef and ceremonial plate. Maybe there’ll be some kewl new outfits to take their place ^_^

4.Stealth not resetting aggro after a certain point. Sometimes you’ll stealth because you just don’t wanna fight. Maybe there are more mobs than you can handle? Maybe there are 3 mobs and all have knockdowns, lots of crowd control, and are tanky so the time to reward ratio isn’t worth it. You set to autorun in stealth with the in-combat speed, they’re still standing there waiting to fight. And no matter how far you seem to go you’ll always be in combat, even if you log out and back in again (tried it in some other game, didn’t work there either) you’re kept in battle.
A patch on Feb 26 2013 took away aggro reset on stealth
“Using stealth no longer resets NPC aggression tables.”
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates/2013-02-26
The problem with that is if you intend to disengage you’ll still have in combat speed instead of traveling speed. In some cases it’s good since the enemy maintains the health level they had from before stealthing ensuring all your hard work isn’t undone with a battle reset but in other situations it’s unwelcome. Let’s say you see a group of four mobs and take them, then another randomly joins. You didn’t scout and plan for five, so stealthing then is a great opportunity to simply get away.

I’d rather just use something to consume all that excess stuff. Throwing stuff away may feel premature for all we know there could be some precursor later on that needs 10,000 bloodstone dust.

“Remember, farming keys takes actual cash money out of ANet’s pockets. "
Maybe kinda but those of us who buy gems will buy them anyway for outfits and converting gems to gold for guaranteed dyes and mats for crafting ascended since even loads of farming can’t net you enough. We’re just buying other stuff instead of keys instead of keys cutting into our preplanned budget.
Well there are animals, respectivly feline and rats. It’s normal that they have little sexual diamorphism
Asura are supposed to resemble rats?
The Charr’s mortal enemies are the humans and skritt, largely because cats hunt rodents while everyone hates and looks down on humans and view human compassion and empathy as foolishness and weakness.
1. Agreed 100%. This was one of my biggest contentions with WoW. If I scout an area, observe I can be somewhere where I can’t be hit or at least get in a few good ones before they reach me (in those cases they develop hypersonic speed and get to you in a “regular” timeframe anyway), set everything up and…“evade” keeps kicking in. Also sort of related are champions who can’t be crowd controlled. Thanks for rendering certain builds and skills totally useless.
2.I don’t like this either, what I typically do is load them with conditions so that when they reset they’ll start off with that disadvantage again and get them.
3.Yeah that’s really cheap.
I’ll add a fourth:
4.Stealth not resetting aggro after a certain point. Sometimes you’ll stealth because you just don’t wanna fight. Maybe there are more mobs than you can handle? I wanna sparkly ninja outfit and a legendary trenchcoat for the engineers for legendary medium. It should all be really cool yet say I’m mature for my age. Legendary dies that contain two colors (either slowly alternating or a pattern weave) would be cool too.
Got 3 keys as a drop after the patch. Don’t ask me how many chests, got a few more than usual in 80 zones though.
You have gotten 3 BL keys to drop from Mobs in the last 6 days?
Jana do yourself a favor and play your nearest lottery IMMEDIATELY! Lady Luck is indeed watching over you.I unfortunately, dwell on the other side of the equation. Since launch I run at about 1000hrs per key.
Actually, it would be a bad time to play since the luckier one gets the less likely something just as lucky to happen is. It’s like winning the jackpot or any large amount on slots. Just take your winnings and get out of town.
At least they released shoulder and gloves…for a very limited time where you needed to grind constantly while receiving no drops, experience, silver, or karma in addition to spending 10 gold a piece on top of the countless grinding where the gold simply vanishes rather than circulates.
I like the outfits.
I think most of them are pretty terrible, especially on my Charr. The rascal medium armor set is pretty easy to get and looks much better, especially with appropriate dye. My $0.02.
The wedding, noble count, jungle explorer (can do a lot with that one), hexed, witch, Wintersday outfit, emperor (Asura and females only) are all great I think. They’re either tasteful, elegant, classy, awesome, or cool depending on which one.
I find it distasteful in the extreme, but arena.net hasn’t declared it verboten, so this is what we get. Personally, I wish they’d make an official statement forbidding it, an then actively ban anyone who tried to do it. Of course, the kind of people who buy and sell these services are hugely offended about anyone who feels this way. They always immediately start screaming “How are they hurting you?” “shouldn’t they be paid for their skill?” etc. I could care less about their arguments though, it’s just tacky and sad, exploitative on the sellers side and pathetic on the buyers. At the very least if Anet banned it they’d have to make shady backroom deals on 3rd party forums and such, and you wouldn’t see it in the LFG tool anymore, and that would be much better. They could hang out in the dark alleys of the internet making shady, shameful deals all they want, always fearful that their dirty secret would come out and their account would be properly banned.
Lol someone is seriously overreacting to people who sell dungeon runs.
I think this is a low point in GW2, the bar is set by WoW players who proliferate this mentality. I specifically started playing GW2 because of the developers wanting to move away from this mentality.
Support it all you want but it is a slippery slope, once this is considered “Normal” then the WoWification of yet another game is not far behind.
The “WoWification”?
Pff lulwut?
Like Gw2 is going to suddenly become a mainstream household name and go strong for 10 years defining a game genre? That’d be terrible indeed…
Sorry to kitten on your parade but Anet has been okay with people selling runs since the GW1 Prophecies days.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guide_to_Drok's_run
Clearly the metamorphosis into a perfect facsimile of WoW is a very slow process.
Yes it really would be terrible and here’s why. When something goes mainstream then that means a wider audience base is aware and into it. Not a problem by itself, but then these people start making demands that traditional gamers wouldn’t. Demands such as cutscenes and more consistent story instead of actual content and challenging content, both bonus secret content and the parts of the game one would encounter naturally. More people also means a lower common denominator, meaning things get simplified too much for their tastes. It’s the same reason why whenever a band becomes popular they usually stop being good.
People always talk about how original WoW was fun, then they simplified it too much.
I like the outfits.
“I’m running out of space! There’s simply not enough space!”
“Well, why do you have 10 stacks of bloodstone dust, 10 slots of random green gear, a bunch of halloween/wintersday materials, and what are those, dungeon keys and sand?”
“That’s not the point! I need all of this stuff! Eventually! I’m pretty sure! Like mostly sure!”
I guarantee I could go through your entire bank, personal guild bank, and characters and free up at least 50% of space.
It literally is a hoarder mentality.
I remember selling large swaths of ancient wood and other collected logs for gold. I do a lot of mat farming, but I read that ascended weapons will need lots of those mats. Because I wanted some gold and free up space I have to start at square one again. Don’t even get me started on ecto selling.
What could you possibly fill 12 bank tabs with?
I have two banktabs full. I plan on getting a third to put my bloodstone dust (desperately needs a demotion formula that would convert like 50 bloodstone dust into 100 crystalline dust or whatever) and yet more collected extra stuff in. I could always expand the mat holding more, but that’s 800 gems per upgrade.
i cannot stress enough how much of this can be solved simply by removing celestial. this amulet alone has done more damage to pvp over the past year and half (or so) than anything else i can possibly think of. it’s usage is completely binary. it either enables ridiculously strong builds or doesn’t do anything for a profession.
seeing celestial just removed entirely (or nerfed considerably) would do a lot of good for the professions i’ve mentioned using them, as it would help reduce the amount of profession-specific mechanics that need to be nerfed for the sake of celestial builds not to be overpowered.
GOD YES. I don’t understand how Celestial is still in the game; it’s so absurdly binary! When you design an amulet that’s 130% of the normal stat budget, spread across all stats, there are really only two possible outcomes: either it’s useless for a build, or the linchpin that makes that build disgustingly powerful. Just remove it already.
Maybe remove healing power from it for balance? I made a Triforge and don’t want to see a big nerf that would make all those mats and grinding a big waste.
A male ascended coat kind of looks like it has a skirt on a human.
He’s not even saying what particular kind of name it was. For all we know the guy could have made an Abe Lincoln reference (can’t name after historical figures)
Just don’t look at it. No one’s forcing you to look at other players’ pet or guild names.
Ok guys, I just run meta build, want to see it ?? Go to metabattle.
I just take a CoE random group (noobs rarely run this dongeon).
Two warriors, guardian, and elementalist. If you were a mesmer instead that’d be the perfect party setup ^_^
Another teagariff problem is the trail it leaves behind. You dodge back it’ll hit you anyway, not a problem by itself but the damage trail it leaves behind will ensure you’re tagged to combat if you dodge forward and the damage itself is noticeable. If you’re standing on a high ledge where they logically shouldn’t be able to get you they can still hit you anyway. You’d need to be really high up to avoid getting hit.
LMAO!!!! your signature is crazy… lol
Why does everyone rip on Dragonhunter? Is it really that bad?
Avatar of Melandru can be very useful in some situations. I would not recommend using it over standard profession elites unless you are an ele though.
Or thief when you’re fighting a champion who’s immune to crowd control or need greater crowd control access with the roots. Basilisk venom just doesn’t last long enough.
(edited by Agemnon.4608)
I’d like a more Inquest or Asura based story arc. We’ve been seeing so much Sylvari stuff lately other races need attention too.
Necromancer, you’ll have reaper in HoT.
There’s still legitimate challenge. We almost wiped here:
I have daggers set to ensure I can rez people and not be subjected to the random disabling shot bug where even screenshotting or looting does it. We managed to win.
There can never be too many armor pieces or sets but we have a respectable amount already. I’m planning on buying all the seasonal or temporary stuff.
I think some sort of classy mix between plate and formal would be good ^_^ Don’t know how something with a cloth flow (but with weightier effects than traditional cloth to kinda emphasize the metal without being still like real metal would) but metal texture would turn out though, might end up being tacky in practice.
Better APIs and optimizations would allow for more options with fewer clipping issues, which would expand possible outfit and armor designs.
I’d rather buy someone a prepaid giftcard from the mall or whatever. Then they can convert that to gems. I do it often for myself.
Her huh? Have someone specific in mind? ^_^
