Mesmer underpowered, lmao xD

I know they aren’t by any means, which was the joke. People keep saying, “thief is OP” but ignore the strengths of the other classes. I need a weapon with vit on it and 30 points into acrobatics just to get near 16k HP whereas warriors are higher than that with their base HP, but they have no stealth (for now). I don’t mind that, since high HP and absorbing damage is a fundamental warrior mechanic, but they get so much more too: better ranged damage than rangers (okay, rangers have pets, but still), great longbow AoE, greatsword 3 is great for mobility or cutting down a line of mobs or players, axe 5 is great for farming, sword and shield have their viability, hammer knockdowns, buffs, banners, etc. And they don’t need to be in stealth and position themselves just right for their max DPS output.

Ironically because people value their colored text over having good stats, a lot of Twilight, Sunrise, and Eternity wielders are kittening themselves with vit/tough/power weapons, when a tanky weapon is the opposite intention of the greatsword (at least on warrior and guardian, my ranger is level 2 so I haven’t looked at the skills there).

They are the optimal dungeon DPS stats. I’m a thief and would die for power/vit/toughness gear for dungeons and just switch back to berzerker and some knight’s jewlery for WvW.

I thought the point of Legendary weapons was to keep them really hard to get, so that those few that worked hard and got one, would really feel special.

I thought the point of Legendary weapons was to give people an option of having really beautiful skins with special effects if they wanted them. As far as I’m concerned, the point of those weapons was not to slap e-kitten on other people’s face.

I’m thinking about getting Sunrise, since it’s easy (as in, it’s just a matter of time until someone plays the game enough to get enough karma and enough gold; it may take a while, but whatever). I want that sword because IMO it’s beautiful. I couldn’t care less if I’m the only player in the game who has it, or if every single character has a pretty Sunrise in its inventory – the fact I like how it looks is enough for me.

It is a beautiful weapon and it can look orange, red, or even blue depending on your proximity to it. Here’s a picture of it on someone I’ve seen in LA (I’m the ninja):

If only screen captures had the same resolution as the actual game settings =( Maybe I should use Frap’s photo capture?

Hi!
I’ve been working a lot lately on acquiring my first Legendary weapon, the Incinerator (missing the precursor and some Karma), and in the process I’ve noticed that ArenaNet is making it easier and easier to get one.

Here is why:

  • You now get Jugs of Karma from daily and monthly achievements.
  • You get Drops of Liquid Karma and Bags of Gold in Dungeons
  • You get Dungeon Tokens from Boss drops in Dungeons
  • You can now buy Obsidian Shard in the Fractals of the Mist for Fractal Relics
  • You can buy Dessa’s Experiment Journal and get 1 Skill Point
  • Karma booster effect the Jugs of Karma and Drops of Liquid Karma

Don’t get me wrong, because I love the changes in the way that they help me acquire my Incinerator, but I fear this will have a negative effect in the long run. As everything was, you would need to work ridiculously hard to get the mats for one, but now they’ve simplified the process. I feel sorry for the ones who already got their Legendaries, because they could have saved lots of Gold and time if they had waited until now.j

I fear that owning a Legendary weapon will soon be “normal”, so you won’t feel special when wielding your Twilight. I thought the point of Legendary weapons was to keep them really hard to get, so that those few that worked hard and got one, would really feel special.

So what is you thought about this?

tl;dr: I fear that the changes made to Karma, skill points and Obsidian Shards farming are going to have a negative effect on the game.

I am the third person on my server I’ve seen with The Dreamer… before this patch (haven’t logged in awhile). I have also seen a couple with Twilight, Dawn, and the Incinerator. Oddly, I have only seen one Bifrost.

I’ve had the same fear too. I mean, RNG is out of control (I had much better luck than most but my position still stands given how many post mention it with corroborating data) for precursors but it should still remain a very difficult process only for the most dedicated and persistent. Every time I’m near someone with a legendary I’ll go, “OMG OMG! Gotta screenshot!” and soon enough it won’t be like that anymore =(

They know complaining on the forums is a more viable strategy than learning to play. It doesn’t matter how skilled you are if you’re under a big enough imbalance handicap, and that’s what warriors are trying to do by complaining that they are “underpowered”. They also go to the thief forums and whine for nerfs (well all classes but still).

Why is everyone freaking out and acting like this is “God 1 hit everything” gear? its only 8 more stat points, 3% magic find, and You cannot even apply a talisman/rune to it. Not to mention that the stats are ONLY power/prec/magic find. Also, it has similarities to legendaries. And yes, legendaries ARE better than exotics, even though it isnt by much. So basically, this gear is only good for dungeons since there is agony condition.

Power/precision/magic find? Sounds optimal for farming, but the worst possible combination for dungeons, and magic find is arrogant to bring into WvW. Legendaries are utility wise better than exotics for dungeons because although the stat amount is the same, the particular stats are the best possible combination for a dungeon going DPS: Power/vitality/toughness is the holy trinity of DPS dungeon stats.

Wish i would have gotten my legendary done when all the mats were cheap and farmers were rampant and competing for my gold. Now that bots have been cleaned out, you can already see mat prices going up. Take rare items, they were like 10-14s each pre bot ban, now they are 20-30s. All i see is alot less mats being posted on the TB and higher prices for what is being posted. So basically, if you made your legendary a month ago, cost ya like 500g ish. Now will prolly cost close to double that.

And let’s not even start with the people who used “loopholes” to get mats fast and free and precursor galore which they sold for quick gold to buy mats to make their own legendary….

People who think they won’t make "endgame’ gear easier to get as the game ages are delusional. Every MMO i’ve played since EQ1 in ’98 have made stuff easier as it went. A prime example, took a full guild of 60+ “raiders” to get flagged for Plane of Time, after a couple years, they were handing out keys to that place for easy loot. I imagine legendaries will be the same way as well as new “cooler” legendaries coming out anyways in the future.

Prices going up is a doubled edged sword: Yes, for buyers it isn’t that great, but nothing is stopping you from being a producer. This isn’t real life where you’re socially handicapped and might have parents that can’t afford to send you to college to get into such a position, this is an online game that’s democratic. I’m not going to say egalitarian because egalitarianism insists that everyone finishes even, but we all have a chance to “make it” in this game, and it doesn’t care about your social background. I could have easily sold my precursor, but didn’t because a legendary is more important to me in this game than being rich. Besides, what fun is there to simply sit on gold I’m not even going to spend apart from certain mats or weapons that I think will go up in price in the future or creating an artificial scarcity and reselling at higher prices?

Go ahead, try mining gold in real life… did the owners tell you that prospecting without a license is illegal and maybe confiscate your gold? Here in the game, however, no one is stopping you (apart from maybe some risen, but you can rekill them or whatever the term for “killing” undead is).

IF you gonna add alternative ways to get precursor – Increase drop rate of lodestones otherwise their price will skyrocket. How much – depends on how easy will that scavenger hunt be, But plz do NOT allow lodestones to skyrocket outside bounderies.

Also – balance the lodestones a bit. Atm charged lodestones are overused, while in comparison glacial and molten have only 1-2 useful applications.

They will hopefully add more mobs that drop them. Onyx lodestones drop relatively frequently from chests in TA explorable while the Claw of Jormag quest chain has a good chance at dropping lodestones too (forget which kind I remember getting some). You can also use the mystic clover recipe for them, I got 10 charged and sold them, though many don’t like the RNG.

I just said the above to contradict the poster ^_^ While i love the idea of dynamic dungeons one of the great things about this game was the many paths you could take to gear your character. You could craft it, save up the gold for it, or put rares into the forge for it. I do however see ascended gear being expensive if it’s possible to make it in the forge due to exotics being needed for it, but grinding for gold for a few days on wherever is optimal at the time to level the playing field in WvW can’t hurt.

So a “problem” with vertical scaling is being able to easily defeat things when you get more powerful. Actually, that’s just a matter of logic, if you can compete with a higher class of monster then the previous one suddenly doesn’t look so great.

No, a treadmill is a very valid analogy. You may be getting stronger than those bears, but your relative power to the highest tier of PvE content is still the same. The next tier is balanced with owning the previous tier of gear in mind, so comparatively, you’re as powerful vs. the latest baddie as you were vs. the previous baddie before you ground out said baddie’s gear.

It’s an illusion of progress.

I don’t agree with having to raid for the best gear or barriers of entry, but having to save a lot of money or collect a lot of mats should be viable too (shouldn’t be cheap just accessible via non dungeon means). But that’s the thing, we face bigger threats and need to power up accordingly or else it’ll get too boring, the next guy always has to be a bigger threat than the last to raise the stakes, since if he isn’t you know he could be defeated. Though there are better ways than having to grind battlegrounds and dealing with people who blame you for losing if you do just to be competitive for arenas and being locked out of dungeons because of not having raid gear.

Cosmetic rewards, titles, and achievements are a great incentive, but the practical nature of our times dictates that it isn’t enough for most people unfortunately. I have a legendary and plenty of dyes so I care about appearance but not everyone shares that mindset.

HERE is something you should watch ..

Few points why horizontal progression is better than vertical progression.

Made by well known streamer

Dear ANET, As someone who is a huge advocate of ascended gear because I miss some notion of PvE competitiveness…I think Taugrim has definitely hit the nail on the head with some ideas…putting more effort into leaderboards for PvE content, cosmetic gear which we alrdy have but could be better…and heres something I’d love to see…progression of ability animations…you could have that fire mage do the same damage and ability as a level 1 dude…but doing x dungeon allows that fire spell to have some totally new and kick kitten animation. Combine that with better cosmetic looking stuff and leaderboards…suddenly your PvE scene is ROCKIN!

Contemplate this ANET…have a good day! =)

So a “problem” with vertical scaling is being able to easily defeat things when you get more powerful. Actually, that’s just a matter of logic, if you can compete with a higher class of monster then the previous one suddenly doesn’t look so great. When you are level 60 fighting demon bears those normal level 5 equivalent to ones in the real world suddenly look weak, and this is part of the appeal of MMOs. What if Dragon kitten had an equivalent to level scaling? Something like this would go down:

(at a tournament)

Vegita: “How… how could I lose to Krillin!”

Krillin: “Power level scaling my good friend!”

Also, when I played WoW my level 85 friends would run me through the BC dungeons and help me gear and I myself returned to the BC zones to grind my dragon mounts. I also went to some newbie zones to grind reputation.

I mean there are a few annoying pieces…

Lupi’s phase 2 attack with the green stuff that isn’t one of the AoE circles… I know you can kinda see it, but it’s hard given the camera angle and general chaos on the field. He can also reset even if you’re in the boss room (wtf). I’ve only really done him a handful of times and it seems like sometimes I can do it flawlessly and other times it’s a total disaster due to that non-red-circle green stuff.

Crystal prison of alpha isn’t too too bad, but there’s no way to help block his fire/ice AoE on the prison while ur trying to smash it. Also, only some professions can actually break out of it… kinda lame that some stun breaks are better than others.

TA vines boss… for some reason it’s like you can be in melee range and he won’t spam the poison stuff on you and then other times he’ll launch all of them on you at point blank and do a ton of damage before you can really react.

Yeah nothing I would say impossible, but just uneven which makes for more annoying in a cheap-shot frustrating sense rather than annoying in a kitten this-is-tough sense.

There are times I have more trouble on the vine boss than even Lorent because of party. More often than not it goes smoothly. The vines don’t shoot at point blank, those shots come from the little vines aiming at you. As a thief I’m specced into condition removal upon stealthing, and after three seconds another condition is removed, so I’ll cloak and dagger a mob or poison flower and wait it out. Condition removal is everything in this dungeon. Sometimes you also have to provoke mobs with knockdowns and then dodge, and they won’t be able to do that in another few seconds or so (applicable to every dungeon).

Please stop crying about 'impossibru dungeons'

I mostly agree, though when a guardian leaves a dungeon for being too hard you have to question what’s wrong with this dungeon (before getting to Lorent even). I personally did path 2 in TA a few times and what you say applies even there. Now, I know I have superior precision and crit damage runes (shhh! Don’t tell anyone I’ll dungeon with!), which are less than optimal for dungeons, but have enough points in the vit (30) and toughness (15) trees to make up for it.

In other words, having survivability in dungeons simply isn’t optional. You cannot go 30 power/30 precision with full berzerker jewelry and gear and expect to do well. Dungeons aren’t PvP, and the devs explicitly stated that they don’t want glass cannons in dungeons, and it shows in the design. If something has high damage, CC, and huge health pools then you can deduce that you can’t burst it down quickly. Now, when I’m at the first boss at TA explorable I sometimes have parties that try zerging down the big vine, but after it loses a certain HP % more vines spawn, and those little vines keep spitting. In those cases I’m left soloing a vine, which takes me about under a minute as I like to take the little guys out before their comrades pop up.

Here’s a simple solution that everyone should be able to agree on: let achievement points go towards legendary components or legendaries themselves. That way you could actually work towards a legendary by actually enjoying and participating in all facets of the game and not just mindlessly grinding, playing the TP, or exploiting.

Then people would find a way to exploit achievemnt completition. They would look at the entire list of achievements, see which one give the best points gain/time spent ratio, and abuse said achievement as much as possible. Also keep in mind that the amount of achievement points a casual player is going to make per day is very limited – many of the refreshing ones require a lot of time spent grinding.

everything will be exploited its an online game….

look at plinx for example.

Plinx isn’t “exploited” it’s just a farming chain. Events are meant to be done, and people do them, working as intended.

I imagine that people who have legendaries SHOULD find obtaining all their ascended gear trivial by comparrison to getting the legendary anyhow… unless ANet does something really stupid like making them RNG or some such.

Everyone I run TA path 2 recommends it and says it’s the only way to get it done. Even some full support warriors with no power or precision but plenty of all the other stats say, “This is so hard!”

thats what i mean. when they place 3 trashmobs in an location. and they simply are impossible to kill without using reset-die-runback then something is wrong. when they locate 3 mobs in 1 rush the group should by design be able to kill them without exploiting mechanics such as resetting.

- And for you guys saying this might not be the game for me. you might be right offc. but i write this because i do like alot about this game and dont want to give up on it just yet. Also i see alot of ppls quitting, raging and even refuse to do ect dungeons due to this. so something is wrong, an mmorpg that has so much content should be able to reach out to more than just players satisfyed with grinding dont you agree? its an huge game, but options are limited to a pretty narrow group of players to be an mmorpg

Before reaching even that part we had a GUARDIAN quit the group (it was in the tunnel spiraling up before reaching a bridge) for being too hard. I’m a thief and managed to complete it twice.

I wouldn’t call it an exploit there are certain way things get done an exploit is like the chain healing from SWTOR that sages could do to get more healing out of casts or stealthing with the huttball, or in TSW the blaze exploit.

Thief has caltrops, which applies cripple and water staff eles have that field that applies chill. In path 2 of TA I usually provoke the knights into attacking me, dodge their knockdown (assuming the camera isn’t going crazy), and go far enough back where a couple knights will reset, then taking out the rest. Dagger storm grants stability to the player and applies bleed and cripple, but the knights’ knockdowns still do a lot of damage.

My main is a lvl 80 water elementalist with full “Cleric’s” (Power, Toughness, Healing) gear and a staff.

Continous party regen while attuned to water.
Switching to water attunement gives you and allies regen + removes a condition.
Auto attacks cause splash heals to adjacent melees.
Staff skill #3 gives a small area, short strong heal over time.
Staff skill #5 gives a large area 9 second heal over time with condition removal.
Dodge rolling in water attunement causes large splash heals to adjacent allies (and you) every 10 secs.

Summon (lesser + Elite skill) Water Elemental their attacks cause healing as well.

Not to mention staff skill #4 (water) is an aoe snare. Great for giving your fleeing melees breathing space. :P

Arcane Shield (slot skill) is one of the best all around defensive skills as an ele. Can be activated while casting, knocked down or doing something else. Ressing an ally and a big boss aoe pops up on ya? Arcane Shield.

Glyph of Renewal for ranged ress.

For good parties, switch to Berserker’s or Rampager’s gear and go aoe pew pew.

Eles are the monks in GW2. It’s also quite funny to watch the bad players dodge out of your heals and then die. O_o

Too bad it has power on it instead of vit =( I have an ele too and it’s a dedicated support water tank. 30 in water and earth, 10 in arcane. Wind is, shall we say, less than optimal for dungeons while fire is great for dungeons as an offense oriented ele with earth as a good utility and DPS secondary (especially erupt with DoTs).

This is pretty much the reason why I don’t get to play my ranger/thief as often as I’d like to. Every time I join a group it’s 4 other glass cannon people on them along with my glass cannon thief and ranger, these kinds of groups almost never go well or are much, much harder than they need to be.

I run a AH hammer guardian, and a shout healer tank warrior, and runs go so much smoother on them. Why? Because there is no sitting around waiting for someone to pull, there isn’t infinite kiting going on to kill the mobs with 2 billion hp (Thanks Anet) With these support/tank classes I can control the flow of the dungeon and keep people healed/buffed and more importantly, alive.

It’s only around 4 silver to change talents. 30 in acrobatics, 15 in shadow arts, and 25 in deadly arts seems to work great for an attack oriented dungeon build. This is with a few pieces of knight’s jewelry. You could go 30 shadow arts and 15 acrobatics instead, but HP scales better with thieves than toughness does. Dodging can also remove weakness and crippled from you in the acrobatics tree and you don’t need to go in too deep in shadow arts for the remove a condition every three seconds in stealth (first condition is immediately washed then other conditions get washed). This turns cloak and dagger into a DoT remover =)

Did you notice how the Sylvari are a brand new race whose eldest members are only 25 years old? If any race in the game would have been a great alien candidate it was these guys due to how new they are, but Anet avoided the whole alien thing by a magical tree making plant people, or something.

The most alien race in technological advancement and looks would have to be the Asura, but they’re from the planet itself.
