I think a medium armor set with a ninja mask and neon lasers coming out of the shoulders would be awesome. There’d also be a glow around your character based off the dyes you use.

This thing is ridiculously overpowered from a mechanics standpoint.

I remember the nightmarish days of S/D thieves going through entire matches with perma-dodge and never getting hit while demolishing fights. I was so happy when feline grace and that troll build died.

Now they are coming back with a vengeance to bring Ragnarok to this game. This will usher in a new generation of troll players abusing the mechanics of this class. 1v1s will be completely dominated by zerker DDs with instakill combos that don’t even require a stomp.

I regret preordering.

1.Roll a guardian or warrior
2.Balance around hammer and rifle (warrior) and staff and hammer (guardian)
3.Enjoy knockdowns, heavy armor, and boons.

Alternative strategy:

1.Roll a necro
2.Balance around minions and lifesteal. Make use of your wells.
3.Use staff and two axes.

Usually it’s a gear issue or in sPvP a learn to play issue.

More skins for all armor types, essence of luck packs, shinier gold dyes in their next exclusive pack, an expensive (for balancing purposes) legendary permanent mining pick that gives jewels with every bit of ore mined, legendary logging axe that does the same with hidden stash.

Also, a rare quality but permanent salvager that doesn’t require copper to use. The major problem with salvage kits is you need to buy from a vendor. That’s money that’s been deleted from the economy, and they eat up your trash vendor, event, direct mob drops money. So to avoid that but still give black lion kits use a permanent rare salvage kit that doesn’t require copper would be good.

Keep in mind that necros have lifesteal wells. That means they do damage and heal with the same move.

I’m blown away by how people say necro is the worst but they have minions, lifesteal, conditions, wells, and other goodies.

Closest thing we have to lifesteal are the shadow refuge fields we put over the close ranged people fighting champions or world bosses to heal them as shadow refuges creates a lifesteal combo with projectiles.

There are some great ones in the self style kit (a black lion key dropped today and I got one. Was intending to buy one anyway so I’ll buy more keys in place of the kit during my next transaction cycle) though Asura male and female human hair seems like the best.

The last one is an exclusive face but I included because I think it’s cute ^_^

Some pros and cons of inflation. Inflation isn’t all bad and may even be good over all

Con: your vendoring money doesn’t go as far.

Pro: If you sell mats on the trading post then you’ll make more gold.

Pro: Icy Runestones and salvage kits are practically less expensive than before inflation. If you sell powerful blood for 10 silver then you’ll need to sell more of them to sell to reach your icy runestone goal than you would if they were 50 silver.

Tonics are nice, but I think the races have good potential for a story and playable characters.

I can see how having no sight can be a problem but gameplay and story segregation means we can viably get away with it. Our character might not see but we ourselves can. Like Daredevil they’d rely on non-sight senses being blind.

“The often used excuse for not introducing new races to the game is that they don´t add significantly to the game. "

That’s the worst copout any writer, game (or any really) designer, or anyone ever gives. What it would add are options and lore can easily be built around them. They already exists in universe. Sinestro as a secret optional villain in a Batman Arkham game wouldn’t make sense, hence the optional part, but being Arkham’s version of Omega Weapon would add a great challenge element. In other words challenging content or options can add enough in themselves.

Wedding dresses technically don’t add much either, but everyone loves wedding dresses, even me (well on females of course) so I say keep them ^_^

“Ascended gear re-stat, you’re new pink gear doesn’t fit your build? Here, anytime any ascended armor drops, you can have perfect stats for it for minimal cost. This is ultimately okay, but again undermines the entire cost put towards farming/gathering etc ascended mats.”

I strongly disagree. Ascended gear takes so long to make especially since you gotta get your crafting up to 500, so unfortunately using ectos just for crafting isn’t optional.

Precursors will never be “free” and mystic forge grinding means you will eventually get one if you keep trying.

I really like these two races and want to know if the Anet team is working on it or if it isn’t technically viable. Kodan have humanoid dimensions so I don’t think they’d be too much of an issue especially since they’re roughly Norn sized.

Dredge would be a nice playable race too especially given their implied story that’s simply ripe for heroes to emerge from and are sympathetic. They’re an oppressed race and don’t like it, perfect conditions and potential for player story with them. Though their design might pose a technical challenge for armor.

Maybe they’re saving playable Kodan for a really big future expansion? It would be a good move I think.

Power creep in movement speed

" In WvW importance of the placement on the battlefield is greatly reduced as many players move at least +25% speed all the time and this problem is further highlighted when near immunity to soft CC is kind of meta for melee classes. "

But nerfing swiftness would create an even bigger problem of people being rooted to one place whereas speed is needed to position oneself more favorably. Speed also shortens the time of mat farming and makes it easier to disengage from fights I don’t want to engage in. Stupid dredge/raptor/zombie/whatever, if I wanted to fight I would have hit you. I usually engage but sometimes I really want to get the farming out of the way and some mobs take too long to kill especially considering that their drops are RNG based.

“In PvP being faster than your opponent by even just a small margin gives you a ton of ways to avoid fights you would lose and force them when you’re sure of victory. "

If I wanted to continue fighting I obviously wouldn’t be running away in the first place.

An anti 'Meta' rant.

Also glaring is how relatively accessible berserker is compared to zealot and celestial gear. For zealots you need sprockets, which I intended to sell but because my thief and elementalist want some healing power and some celestial for conditions and survivability since ferocity increases crit damage, which is a process that relies on RNG.

The accessibility of berserker compared to zealot and celestial suggests that zealot and celestial are meant to be superior, or at least mixed with berzerker (like I intend) than full berserker.

I know this post strictly speaks of PvE but in PvP everyone expects a thief to wear full berzerker, so why not experiment with soldier? Has anyone even bothered trying or does everyone just assume berzerker is optimal?

we can have the female version

to be a female one (could be a 2nd outfit to buy)

I actually like the first one. It’s cute. I see great female Asura outfits all the time though I still agree that more outfits never hurt (for any race and gender)

I’ve included a couple of attachments of female Asura. The problem with a lot of human female armor is…well, very few if any modest options at least from what I’ve seen.

pvp tier list and necro

Oh wow surprising list imo, I’d have atm:

1. Ele
2. Mes
3. Thief
4. Engi
5. Guard
6. Nec
7. War
8. Ranger

Honestly I feel 5-7 is very interchangeable atm though depending on comps but in general that’s the order I think overall.

Why is ranger dead last rangers get pets while necros get summons. Warriors are great classes if you spec correctly even in PvP and have great stunlocks. Thief is supposed to be number 1 as its skills are designed for optimal PvP performance (scorpion wire, basilisk venom, and blinding powder for example) but due to poor balancing winds up being near the bottom. Mesmer was designed as a primarily PvP class too but is actually good so its place is appropriate. Elementalist should be a jack of all trades but ends up being a master of all instead so yeah elementalist at number one I agree with. However, air is supposed to be the PvP spec but due to OP burns fire and earth d/d is more popular in practice.

If you click on the link you’ll be sent to the part where Robert Gee talks about the warrior torch ability “Flames of War.” In this segment he actually says that if the skill were to apply burning to the player themselves it would be “silly.”

As a long time player of the necromancer, I feel like i was kicked while i was down ( kind of like being banished and having a thief steal onto you while downed for the spike, a unicorn shooting a rainbow out of it’s rear end at that). According to our Class Developer, the very mechanics we have to deal with with our abilities wouldn’t even be thought of for another class. Necromancers alone must deal with their own abilities hurting them, even more so when a trait that is suppose to increase their skill’s prowess in the end is only more of a detriment.

When will our corruption skills be looked at with the same kind of view as that towards warriors?

That wasn’t a steal shadowstep, that was a shortbow skill “5”

The problems with BV is its charge time is too long meaning a sizable window for an interruption and an animation that communicates to other players that you have it activated. It’s also too short duration I’d add at least 1.5 seconds to the effects, half the charge time, and remove the weird animation and yell at the end (i.e., give it a normal apply venom animation)

The only time to viably charge it is in stealth.

Speaking of stealth its strength should scale with healing power (the current stealth strength would be baseline) so it’d double as a shield against reveal. There aren’t abilities other than the standard to counter life-steal or conditions to neutralize the healing part so why not an anti-lifesteal field or anti-magic field too?

I wanted shield master where thief gets mainhand and offhand shields. The elite spec would focus on sPvP group utility though still have some uses outside of that.

Alternatively, crimemancer with a scepter would have been great for the same purposes, just without shield bash or pummel (like Batman’s pummel ability but with shields) for rapid multihit attacks. Crimemancer would have the same purpose as shield master but focus on thief summons. You’d have the burglar, who is big, strong, and tanky and dual wields pistols and dresses in all black with a skull cap, assassin who is a glass canon and dresses like a ninja with double katanas, back alley surgeon for heals, and generally has necromancer summons but in different styles and somewhat different utilities.

But the buyers don’t really have a choice. Those are the prices set by the greedy ones, and they are not gonna drop.. In fact they will get even more expensive.

If the price of that dye is 1000g and remains constant. (it will be 1000g forever).

Then a non-greedy person that wants the dye would grind until they have 1000g, then buy that dye… then use it.. the end.

but the greedy people I’m referring to Already have 50,000 gold, and they Already have that dye. They don’t need it… But they buy them… they buy them all… and re-sell for even higher… for what purpose?

They already have more gold than they will ever need… but they want more.

That is the kind of disgusting greed in people I was referring to.

Resellers are a dirty but inevitable part of any MMO. The problem is TP stuff keeps getting more expensive while buying salvage kits and fast travel eats up a lot of one’s hard earned silver. The key is to grind…grind…and more grinding and traveling by foot (except for emergencies, like a dragon being up elsewhere) to grab some new money without it going “poof”.

“Dungeon parties look for heavy armor classes because they’re more consistently survivable due to having a lower skill floor. That isn’t to say warrior/guardian can’t be played well, but they aren’t punished very harshly for just standing there and taking hits. Doesn’t really have much to do with thieves though, stay mobile and you’ll take just as little damage as anyone else.

You’ve got a wide number of options for avoiding/mitigating damage in PvE, starting with basic WASD movement."

To be fair warriors were meant to take hits, hence their base 18k HP (consequently they’re also punished less for having “glass cannon” traits and armor) whereas thieves aren’t. What do we have for toughness line traits? Stealth, where our true survivability comes from. Acrobatics is great and I have 30 there (motivated mostly for having dungeon viable HP though the 10% extra damage while energy isn’t full is good), and is mostly a mobility tree.

Also, power just scale better with warrior abilities and they can actually afford to put points into the precision tree due to the aforementioned higher HP base.

As for WASD movement… no, it is clunky, you need mouse turning and adjust camera rotation speed accordingly.

Then again I leveled my elementalist first and by the time I leveled a thief had a firm grasp of the game’s general mechanics and area layouts. I can attest to the deathblossom strategy. If you see a ranged mob kite melee towards them and deathblossom them, that way all get in. I had a lot of help from dagger throw, but they nerfed it into the ground so it’s just an overpriced cripple now.

Also, if you don’t have a Razer Naga you should rebind “Q” to mouse 4. There is a world of difference between “turn left” and “strafe left”. If you try turning then you’ll move pretty awkwardly whereas strafing gives a more consistent turning when you hold down mouse 2.

With a Naga just rebind strafe left to A, dodge to S, and strafe right to D, since your thumb will have access to abilities. Without a Naga abilities you’ll use more often in combat should be closer to home row. Since dagger storm is on a high CD you wouldn’t want that to be binded to F for example, but maybe 4, or given how few buttons you need here compared to WoW, even E might do, and you may want to keep dodge kitten due to how important dodging is, or even Q or W, as long as you don’t accidentally press dodge when you want a “2” ability.

As for camera you should have a high mouse sensitivity (mine is 5000 DPI, but adjust to what works for you) with 75% camera rotation speed to ensure you don’t have a slow and clumsy rotation speed. The moment you move your mouse is the moment you look in that particular direction.

In summery, keybinds are important and should be intuitive.

These posts are hilarious. Yup, the whole game is ruined because of one event.

It’s not like most of the “farmers” have a very misguided approach to this game overall or the fact that plinx was not the only place to farm. Shocking, I know.

Okay:

1. Crafting isn’t really a viable way of making money.

2. Crafting nodes are on CD and therefore less reliable than farming events.

3. Even 1g takes awhile to accumulate, and some things are hundreds of gold. The game needs a fast way to earn gold without resorting to exploits and Plinx was a great solution to this. At least dungeon drops are said to have improved, but Plinx grouping tends to be much faster than Lion’s Arch chat spam grouping.
