Back when i was still silly on my shatter mesmer in pvp, I always wanted to choose decoy or blink.
Decoy was my fave, but one time i got immobilized by 3 zergers… Decoy didnt save me :’(

• mantra of pain is very usefull for healing. Its not usefull in many builds, but definitely not useless.
• Masterfull reflection is completely useless atm. A fun change would be: "distortion and blur grant reflection, and all reflected projectiles cause 4s confusion.
• A suggestion for the trait that confuses when leaving a glsmour: “glamours pulse cripple and torment every second”.
  It would punish people for trying to move out, and much better than a single confusion stack does :P.

Stun breaker also will remove snare (hold) and knockdown. Also as mesmer, Sword 3 – 2nd cast is a stunbreaker, but I guess there is no such a note in the skill description, is there? I noticed this often, casting 3, getting rooted or knockdowned, 3, keep attacking again.

If with “snare (hold)/root” you mean immobilize, stun breaking doesnt remove that.

There is. A bit hard to use given the small window, but can come in handy from time to time.

Its like 5 seconds, pretty long if you ask me :P. But thats just a matter of oppinion.

I actually think it doesnt differ very much from other Mesmer styles :o.

You can use decoy and blink for survivability and tricks. You have a familiar weapon set thats used in active defense builds, like shatter.

Really, survivobg isnt difficult in this build :P. You just have to figure out how to deal damage/interupt.

Im still getting 4-5k crits with swordsmen on berserkers in Spvp :P

You cant maximize dps and still heal. Any time spent healing is time wasted in terms of dps :P

I recommed Pyro’s supporting phantasm build

It has decent survivanility, high dps and mantra heals. You can swap some defensive armor for berserker if you like.

Depends on what you want to do. Speccibg fir burst in pve is a mistake, go for sustained instead.

If its wvw, I run full berserker with 10/30/0/0/30 or 2250 (2050 + 200) armor with 0/20/20/0/30, depending on my mood.

If you want to have alot of passive defense, it would be more like 2500-2600 though. More than that is kind of overkill for burst builds :P

Dazing a target disables their skills for the duration. Meaning they can’t use any skills. They can, however, still move around.

They do not get vulnerability per default, this is through traits.

Confounding Suggestions: 50% chance to cause a 1-second stun whenever you daze a target.

Chaotic Interuption: Immobilize your target when you interrupt them and randomly apply blind, cripple, or chill.

A stun, takes it up a notch and completely locks down your target. They cannot move or use skills (other than skills that can be cast while stunned – no cast time etc.)

That was pretty much it, and the part where you wrote: “chaotic interuption turn interupt dazes in a stun.” which I read as, interrupts turning it into a stun. However, it turns interrupts into immobilize, not stuns.

Oh, but I saw daze + immobilize as stun :P. Its actually stronger than a normal stun, due to the immobilize lasting about 3 seconds (longer than the daze). Also, stun-breaking the daze will still leave them immobilized :P

Its been like 3 weeks since i first tried the Mind Crush and Bouniful Interuption builds… From day 1 i was simply in love wih them :O. Although I did feel like my damage was underwhelming, and “faceroll mode” was too hard to pull off relatively to a high damage spec.

I loved the build so much, that I even made a duelling video on my first day :D. However, after nearly completing it and watching it like 25 times, I feel like… I played so horribly bad xD. Its literally filled with silly mistakes, but still funny to watch :D.

That said… After 3 weeks of exsrensively using lockdown builds, i became alot better at both faceroll mode and high end duelling, havent tried tournaments though.

I plan to make a better video at some point ^__^. I also need an additional person who can record, but Ill find someone later, probably.
If anyone skilled with any profession wants to duel me, dont be afraid to PM me! I won’t bite, for now.

A manipulation that makes an enemy act like your illusionary defender for a while. You take damage, he takes 50% of it ^__^.

A mantra that gives us and nearby allies swiftness+vigor, with cripple+weakness+torment to your target.

A glamour that randomly cripples, chills, immobilizes enemies inside and heals and grant random boons to nearby allies per second as long as an enemy is inside.

An elite that creates a clone of all nearby allies. The clones will do a “simple” (without additional effects) auto attack. They have perma retaliation, and are affected from any trait/signet of illusions from the mesmer. (Like dissipation ones and sharper images) they also dont coun to the illusion cap. Maybe the clone could also act as a personal illusionary defender for the cloned player, they don have much health, so i dont think it would be overpowered.
When the player they are created of is downed, they will attempt to revive at only half the speed of a player in combat.

An illusionary sylvari :O. "Summon a phantasm that looks like a clone, that will do anything for you.

@discussion: keep in mind that going full support does *not mean you wont be getting loot bags. You can still do aoe damage! Get a greatsword, mirror blade shatter, berserker will all tag stuff. On even ground the auto attack will ven hit 3 targets!

I also have a fun suggestion actually… Whenever someone does extra damage because you applied might to them, it also counts as your own damage and shows up in a “might damage floater”. You can disable the floaters in options, if you want. It would make tagging in zergs alot easier, and encourage boon application ^__^.
Just some random thoughts, though.

Veil is actually more than 2 seconds of stealth on a huge cooldown!

You can jump in the veil to reapply stealth, 4seconds.

With prismatic understanding you get 6 seconds.

Veil has infinite uses during the duration. You can potentially stealth a zerg of 5000 people (assuming you dont crash and manage to activate veil)

You can do other things while jumping(like summon phantasms, mantra healing or just thinking what to do next).

… On a huge cooldown

The skill Chaos Armor is really lackluster if you look at it that way. A 35 second cooldown for something you could do with a 6 second cooldown phase retreat :/.

I really prefer the old version of the skill that instantly gave 4s protection >_<. Most of the times i simply forget to use chaos armor in a fight….

How did you test this?

It would be weird if this bug has been under ghe radar all the time :o.

Chaos armor is pretty usefull in pvp, not so much in pve. Same with all auras, you have to actually get hit for them tot ake effect, and that just doesnt work in pve :/.

Veil is pretty usefull fro zergs or PU builds.

The signet of inspiration passive doesnt do much, but then again, no one takes it for the passive :P. Better would be if it granted the random boon to nearby allies, and if it were 2 boons instead of 1.

Rending shatter is used by some, but its raelly bad compared to how other professions can stack vulnerability.

Protected mantrasis OK. It gives 400 toughness to you And clones/phantasms. Its usefull in mantra healing builds, but other than that is isnt.
Maybe it would be better if it gave protection instead? I was thinking 4 seconds after charging it.

Chaotic revival and reliatory demise are horrible, but i have a suggesiton that may make it used sometimes.
Merge them, so we get retaliation when we go down and chaos armor whenwe get up. Also, make deception ground targeted with this trait ^__^.

Vengefull images is useless after the nerf.

Restorative illusions doesnt do anything. It would be much more usefull if the heals were AOE!

Vigorous revelation gives perma aoe vigor ina support build. Its definitely not weak :P.

Dramatic, I know, but it got your attention didn’t it? It’s an appropriate title, both lore-wise and given that though it seems as if you’re just casting spells randomly, you’re actually picking and choosing whatever boon/condition you need for any situation.

Mesmer? Support?
I’ve had the opportunity to speak with several other more popular support classes and compare data. I can confidently say that Mesmer support is up there with Guardians, Elementalists, and Engineers in regards to boons, healing, and other utilities while being able to quickly adapt to many situations with unique skills like Portal, Feedback, and Signet of Inspiration.

But how useful could that be if Mesmer boons do not last long?
In most cases it does not matter how long they last (they DO last long here, though), but how often you can keep them up. A competent Maestro will have his allies:
-Moving faster(Swiftness)
-Dodging twice as often(Vigor)
-Constantly healing – resisting bleeds/burns (Regeneration)
-Doing more damage than normal (Might&Fury)
Among a myriad of other things without being forced to require a major damage sacrifice. Any armor, from Zerker’s to Cleric’s works fine.

How do I do it?
Staff, 20 Chaos / 15 Inspiration (III), 45% boon duration, and Signet of Inspiration. These ingredients are the core of the Maestro build.

PROS
- The more the merrier
The more enemies are near, the stronger you become. The more allies are near, the more impressive you look compounding their boons.
- Strong regeneration (300-350per tick) and burst heals
With Mantras, we can heal 2800HP every 3 and a quarter(3¼) seconds. In that time, Regeneration would’ve ticked three times(900-1050HP) Allowing us to heal for nearly 4000HP every3 seconds.
- Able to provide nearly EVERY BOON everytime you cast Signet of Inspiration.
Out staff alone can grant 6 of the 9 boons in the game. When played properly, every 2nd Chaos Storm will provide every boon except Stability for atleast 5 seconds.
- High defense with strong reflective abilities.
/dance While enemies own themesleves off your retaliation and projectile reflection.
/dance Even if they don’t, because they probably can’t kill you anyway.
- Persistent Combo Field Generation
Ethereal Fields are almost exclusively provided by Mesmers, and Chaos Armor is one of the greatest buffs.
- Versatile trait selection.
The build is flexible enough to add your own flavor, ‘cuz not everyone wants to be a carbon copy.

CONS
- Below average damage output.
The other Mesmer-types (Shatter, Condition, ect.) will still out-damage you.
- Communication is Key.
It is much harder to assist people when they don’t know how you help them

In battle, your attention will be on preserving teammates rather than finding the best place to directly do damage. You’ll be preoccupied with constantly staying near allies to supply them with boons and heals while controlling enemy attacks with mass reflects, dazes, and pulls. The larger the group, the more powerful you become, using interrupts, heals, and sigils to easily gain 20+ might stacks ontop of your considerable defense.

In addition to being able to apply any boon you want whenever you want, perhaps the most unique strength of this build is it’s ability to apply every boon at the same time (For now, we’ll call it the Boon Storm.) to up to five people. Every minute.

(Warning: This build takes practice and communication. If you are new to the Mesmer class, I would not recommend it.)

We make up to 5 people incredibly resillient, thats what we contribute. Our aoe heals are spammable (no cooldown), which other professions can only dream of!

You can also run a damage spec, and occasionally tag something, if you want.

Always go for direct damage, condition is kind of lackluster later on in dungeons. (Its good for leveling though)

As for leveling, Kai’s guide above me is a reqlly good one.
I really do recommend trying out evety weapon though, see which one fits best eith you! I think finding out everytjing myself is much more fun than following a guide, and its 100% possible in GW2 ^__^.

You dont nescesary have to go dual sword in dungeons, you can be verh effective with 2 different weapons. Its the trend for high dps, I guess :/.

Try mixing berserker/knight/cavalier for later, and see how much toughness you feel comfortable with.

If you need lvl80 builds, you can always come back to the forums or PM me.

Theres really no reason to, only the absolute newest players will mistake a clone for a mesmer.
This would make it easier to faceroll new players, but doesnt actually change anything when not facerolling >_<.

As long as mantras have that ridiculous ~3s cast time. They will not be viable in any pvp setting (sPvP/tPvP/WvW). All mantra casts are basically a hey come hit me now sign. FREE KILL COME GET YOUR FREE KILLS GET EM WHILE THEY ARE HOT! <Is what I feel like the mantra symbol is when we cast it. Just saying.

I use the distraction mantra alot nowadays, and never have trouble charging it :P.

Heres a trait idea: change the mantra cooldown trait so it makes mantras cooldown when you used a charge.

For example, mantra of recovery has a 10s cooldown, 8 with mantra mastery.
Now, if you use a charge but save the past one for later, it will cooldown 50% (4seconds).
So if you wait 4 seconds, and then use your last charge, the mantra will only be on a 4 second cooldown!

But if you just use both charges without waiting, it would have like an 8 second cooldown.

With harmonious mantras it recharged 33% per mantra instead of 50%.
So using 2 recovery mantra charges but keeping one, would cool it down go 2.67
seconds, i think.
Or using only one mantra will cool it down to 5.33 seconds.

I agree withthe thief suggestion, to a lesser extend.

Currently thieves can spam backstabs on a blocking person, and dont get revealed. I think that should change.

Backstab and hit: revealed 4 seconds
Backstab in a block: 2 seconds.
Backstab in an evade: 2 seconds.
Backstab misses while in range (blind): 2 seconds
Backstab in the air: remain stealthes.

Also, the mesmer suggestion would do absolutely nothing for players who know what theyre doing, only new ones dont keep track of illusions.

My point is thakittens really difficult to forget which and how many phantasms you have and where they are. Changing symbols would be purely aestethic and low priority.

How exactly does down scaling mess up a build?

I never had my build meesed up. I still have stats, traits, runes and weapons. The only thing that down scaling does is make all stats lower, to match the area you are in. It doesnt mess up builds if you ask me.

Mesmer is amazing :o.

I just have trouble staying on any other peofession for more than 2 hours before i start craving for mesmer again :P.

I only have 3 lvl80s atm, a mesmer, a warrior with 70 crafting levels and another mesmer! I never use the warrier and second mesmer though.
I also have a third mesmer as pvp character, so its easier to switch to condi builds :D.

Judging by other profession forums, Mesmer seems to be amongst the best.

Some claim there is “one optimal build to rule them all”, but its really just a matter of playstyle!
In all pve group play builds you should always try to fit 20 inspiration(support line) in, to get alot of important support options. The best thing about this is, by going in the support tree you dont lose damage, in fact, you gain damage. In 25 inspiration is one of our most important damage traits ;).

In pve, there are many support/damage hybrids, boon support builds etc that are viable. Usually they will give you an unfinished trait template, where you can freely allocate the last trait points to your liking.

At one point in a Mesmer’s live, they will realise “Oh, never thought I could get so much use out of a useless weapon!”

Carry all of them with you, really.

The sword, greatsword and focus will probably be most important though.

Try a greatsword! It has the highest damage we can do at range while leveling, and by staying away from the mob, you wont get hurt as much.

Try using your F1 shatter. It will do some damage with your clones, so theyre not uselessly standing around.

As for the 2nd weapon, i reccommend you try them all out and see which works for you! I highly recommend sword, though. Its our highest danage power weapon, andblurred frenzy also adds alot of defense.

I use MSI Afterburner for recording. The full version is also free, and just like bandicam, has some of the best live compression options.

I gt around 1GB per minute with recording.

For editing i use Sony vegas pro 11, and i love it! Ive tried other programs that are supposedly muh better, bt theyre also muh more complicated :/.

For some reason i cant render MP4 with sony vegas, but thats probably my laptop being weird. I had to render WMv, whih is alot worse on youtube :/.

With my settings i gt something like this . It would be much better in MP4 though :/. File size is about 1.5 GB for this whole video, i think.

edit: MsI afterburner doesnt work with all grapic cards! if you use it on an uncompatible one, it may result in your hardware being samqged

No you don’t.

You want as much single target as posible, and then you slot in focus for when AOE is needed which normally consists of trash mobs that melt in seconds. That way you can cleave three targets with warden and then cleave three more with your main hand sword.

What this means, is that AOE becomes more relevant in Fractals where they made it practically impossible to skip mobs, but in regular dungeons you hardly need AOE at all since it’s just skip-boss-skip-boss-skip-boss-collect loot.

Oh, well i dont skip things, because i just dont see the point of doing supposedly fun content for the sake of loot.

I feel like im in an extreme minority here…

Ill +1 the blackwater build. Its identical to the condition build i run in pvp, and my favourite ^__^.
+1 to bountifull interruption. I love playing support and Pvp. I thought they didnt mix, but this build proved me wrong.
I havent tried chilleuption, just didnt ‘see it’ when i looked at it :/.
Same goes for evasive signets, I only have money to buy 1 gesr set, and i dont really enjoy tanky builds.

The larger the group, the more powerful you become, using interrupts, heals, and sigils to easily gain 20+ might stacks ontop of your considerable defense.

In addition to being able to apply any boon you want whenever you want, perhaps the most unique strength of this build is it’s ability to apply every boon at the same time (For now, we’ll call it the Boon Storm.) to up to five people. Every minute.

(Warning: This build takes practice and communication. If you are new to the Mesmer class, I would not recommend it.)

When you have an environmental weapon, or no weapon, clones also appear without a weapon.

They cast a purple bolt that has no effects, low projectile speed, with a low rate of fire. Identifal to scepter clones >_>.

If you cant create clones at all, it would be a bug :o.

Keep in mins that pistol is a single target weapon.

In most dungeons and fractals youll want as much aor as possible.

We have 2 aoe phantasms:

1. berserker on the greatsword
2. warden on the focus
   The focus also carries the utility of protecting the whole party from projectiles, which is amazing :D. More often than not in dungeons, youll want these weapons equipped. For boss fights, feel free to use pistol/sword or somehing.

It seems like youre looking for a thief or mesmer.

I share the oppinion that, guardian is really obvious with what they do :/. Its a + for some, but for you apparrently it isn :P.

Now to the mesmer… A mesmer is a jack of all trades, but when you try making a balanced build, it will fail. Or not fail, but atleast not r opimal. You can specialise in pretty much anything with a mesmer, but the best builds specialise in several things at once. For example if you want a suppkrt/damage hybrid, it wont be 50/50, but instead 80/100.

Most of our skills have more than one purpose, take Chaos Storm for example.

• In a shatter build you will use it to creata an area your enemy cant enter (pvp), so its mainly used for defense.
• In a condition build youll place it on the enemy to do damage.
• In a support build youll place it on allies to give them every single boon in the game.

Mesmer has an incredible skill cap, due to going high damage/low defense in pvp. You have to use timed evades, teleport and mobility to survive.
Learning a simple damage rotation is simple, but its getting away with it that is he difficult part.

Build diversity… Many claim there is none, but did you know that:

• shatter builds can down low defense players in as low as 0.5 seconds.
• phantasm builds can pull of insane damage, and focus completely on defending while they let phantasma do everything.
• healing with cleric is nearly identical as eles/engi/guardian
• you dont have to sacrifice damage to gain amazing support and 100% projectile reflection uptime.
• condition builds can stack 5 torment stacks and burning for condition burst damage.

Thief has a very high skill cap as well. Its squishy, so you have to use alot of active defense to survive. But thats not my expertise. In fact… Im completely rubbish with thief. The auto attack does like 3500 damage on crit though :o.
