Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
What if they weren’t complete noobs. What if they were actually pretty decent. What strategy do you think that these 3 people should use?
Spread out damage?
Single out players?
Etc?
Run away. You cant win a 3v10 vs decent players, and condi builds dont have enkough burst to stop regiving :P
I think theyd be called ‘the prismatic understandeneers’, too :P
We have enough full-covering heavy armors for females, I think this is a welcome and much needed variation.
My eye color was lilac (light purple) and it remained the same :o
oh my god :/
Well, atleast they fixed an annoying bug in the model for light…
There used to be a see through part if you looked from under at the boob part, there was just nothing, and you saw right through it. Now there’s something, and it was an annoying bug, but not worth the new dye change :/
As the title says, the dyes on the t3 light cultural for sylvari female changed, and it looks rather horrible now D:
I checked my graphic settings and tried restarting the game and computer.
Here are 2 attachments, first one is before the patch and 2nd is after. (with exactly the same dyes)
Please fix it :’(
I like this!
There’s something about your writing that makes it realy enjoyable to read c:
I don’t really see anythind I’d improve atm, apart from the things people above pointed out.
Here are all the things I like:
I like Necromancers but I am not into mage classes.
I like the scythe weapon so I would like the class to be able to hold a scythe.
I want it to be able to have these weapons or most of these: Greatsword, Staff and Sword.
I don’t want the skills to be mostly defensive. I don’t like standing their like a paladin casting defensive skills I like beating people’s faces of :D
I was thinking about choosing the Guardian class but the question is can I turn the Guardian class around and make it more into a character that kills than/then defends?
I would like it to be able to have a pet system. Is this only available on ranger? or…
I would also like the class to not be like a mage standing far away casting skills. I want to hit someone with a Sword or Greatsword.PS: I also like the Guardians armor XD
Guardian seems like a solid joice for “being up close and personal and beat their faces in while attacking and not casting defensive skills from a safe distance while a shield of the avenger has your back” :0
You should also try Mesmer :D
You have:
Feel free to whisper me in game or PM me here if you need anything, and I really mean anything (like fashion advice, or talk about cats) :D
Race is purely for cosmetics and lore.
Just pick the one you like most, profession skills are better than race skills in most cases.
Hint: you cant go wrong with a sylvari mesmer, or human female
I used to assume he was a girl, for some reason. I admired her, and she inspired me to become a better shattercat…
Then I met him in person ans he told me the hard truth :’(.
We also duelled, and I managed to survive for longer than 3 seconds, so I came to realise I wasnt that horrible
And now im here, not half bad. I kinda wanted to thank him in game but he never really came online when I was on :/.
I want a Fan as well.
Another weapon that might be cool for magic casters would be to have a Familiar. For a Familiar weapon, then animal would likely be small like a cat, bird, ferret, bat, or snake. When “stowed” they would be riding on your shoulder or arm. When in combat they’d be running or flying along side you. Unlike a Ranger pet, your Familiar is simply a weapon and its skills would be where the weapon skills would be. Some familiars could be 2H weapons while others could be 1H.
I want a 2 handed cat :D
Yea, it’s overpowered, but that’s the fun part :D.
I’d also figure a familiar cat cant be furter than 900 units away from you, but sticks around at 300. In combat, it does damage per second you if you go further than 300 away :o.
“Knowledge is power” and “one’s knowledge cannot exceed one’s experience”
so.. instead knowledge say effectiveness or say become better, experience give u knowledge.. as well knowledge improve u to gain more efficient experience..
is something like that u can get one the best Tpvp player to maybe in GvG group.. he ll not be as good as he was in Tpvp or he ll not be better than one of the best gvg player.. maybe tpvp player can improve himself faster than other casual gvg players.. cuz of his experiance that ve in tpvp.. so Tpvp and GvG has different requirenment..
so first of all better to make a goal for becoming better mesmer.. Means Where u wanna be better? everything has various effects to become better..
simply pvp is better for self sufficient skills as reflexs.. but u ll need game mechanic knowledge which where u play.. and time u spent consolidate it.. probably they are major things imo..
That is true.
Pvp teaches you to react and know what your opponent is doing, and to not spam skills. Everything you do directly affects how the battle goes (in 1vs1), a mistake or a good move in pvp has much more effect than in pve, because AI can’t take advantage of your mistakes or react to pressure.
Then again, you don’t have to counter AI, because theyre not as complicated as players, so pvp isnt needed to become good at dungeons, and vice versa.
I’ll have to try some PvP then. Never really got into it before, but was curious.
Also, if you ever need help with pvp in game (like builds or fashion or whatever), feel free to whisper me :D
Oh… I think I already said that :’(
Bump.. again.. WTF mods?
Also, updates coming tonight.
Your inbox is full. and I can’t wait to read the updates :D
I missed the invulnerability it used to have (especially losing the 2 seconds of no condition damage).
Conditions still damaged you when you were invulnerable :/.
Try it with distortion
Uhm, just throwing some randomideas out here:
I guess the cleansing conflageration trait can get kitten or so cooldown so it doesn’t become overpowered.
I often take halting strike instead of MW damage when running 20/20/0/0/30 shatter. It scales kinda oddly, I think it depends on what skill you interrupt. Sometimes it hits for under 1k when you interrupt autoattack, and sometimes upwards 2-3k when interrupting a heal.
I usually set up my burst with F3 to strip boons, stack up vulnerability and Halting Strike adds a bit of extra pressure. When fighting against many, chaos storm does pretty nasty damage too.IMO it’s a solid trait and I definitely disagree with Pyro’s “it’s never worth taking”.
Mhm. IMO not taking Mental Torment just… doesn’t make sense for a shatter build with domination :/
The only real interupts you have are Diversion (30 cooldown) and Chaos Storm (35 cooldown), and maybe a pistol or sword. Mental Torment just seems like an obvious choice to me :P.
I also definitely disagree with the “its never worth taking” statement, but maybe it was just a poorly worded oppinion/statement in the wrong context.
I would like a fan C:
A character in Assassin’s Creed multiplayer uses a fan, and its amazing :o. she’s not a Mesmer, but oh well.
(edited by Alissah.9281)
Maind hand dagger, pistol, whip, I actually just want sverything :O
And in some other article they said they were adding all weapons to all professions too C:

Staff is a very defensive and or supporty weapon, it’s amazing for difficult pvp, but pve is sadly all about damage :/.
Greatsword is a good aoe and ranged offensive choice. But obviously worse than sword. (Melee>range)
Hey Sensotix, how did you change your link to your youtube channel to be /user/officialsensotix?
My 4 year old account is like that, but my new one just ends with alot of random letters :/.
Edit: I liked your vids :P
I am really sorry but i have absolutely no idea^^
How old is your account? If its 4years+, maybe they just removed it :/. Youtube removed alot of functions in the last few years :P
I also dont want to use my old account, because, well, lets just say it has a dark history x.x

I feel like pvp is the best to improve your skill, but that’s just not everyone’s thing :P
Feel free to whisper me or PM me here if you want a guild invite, or just want to talk about stuff.
(Im tryig to edit, but iphone wont let me >__<)
(edited by Alissah.9281)
You should let Pyro play those builds you listed above :P
That said, I appreciate your, uhm, excitement!
Thank you :D
@Stickerhappy, I used empowered illusions, with a berserker amulet vs others using berserker amulets :P
@Keenlam, he swings up, and I’m unable to see him :P
I think most fears have the “unblockable” tag (necro traited staff, warrior)
unblockable=/=undodgeable
Maybe you were lagging :/
I often get interupted out of my blurred frenzy… really often
How can you be interrupted from it if you’re dodging the whole time? Doesn’t make sense to me ><
in the world of lagg, nothing, and everything makes sense.
Maybe you were lagging :/

Halting strike does technically scale with power, but it scales very oddly. Suffice to say, the damage on it stinks, and it’s a trait that is absolutely never worth taking.
I thought this was sarcasm until I looked at your build and saw you had all soldier’s gear.
That build is outdated, it’s source of damage was nerfed into the ground. (it’s still tanky, though)
Also, I really like Halting Strike for interupt builds. On berserkers in Spvp it can crit for about 3k, and on people with toughness still maybe still 2k.
Imo, a much better choice than Mental Torment, because I like keeping phantasms up when playing interupt. I’d definitely take empowered illusions over halting strike, but I go 20 domination so I can take both
I have to go to a cousin’s birthday today, so I can’t be on GW2 >__<
Amazing video as always, and maybe now more Mesmers will try out support builds and come to realise its not ‘guardian or gtfo’
.
Yea, probably not, but we can dream :P.
EB once got bugged before a patch, and everyone appeared as hostile. Basically, waypointing to that one close keep gets you insta killed x.x
It was awesone once you got a decent position, though :P
Sure, after a while you get bored of facetolling on known builds anyway :P
Ill come back with some time with results :O I already use 10/20/10/0/30 for shatter, dat Blink :P
I really think they did an amazing job with Mesmer btw. Love all the build diversity and experimenting :D
(edited by Alissah.9281)
Yea… I played 2600 hours, and the best drop ive ever gotten is a dagger fir 9 gold D;
Its stupid how being ruch is based on luck or mindless farming. I know people with 4 legendaries, but when I took him to wvw roaming, he died like a fly.
His respond: “omg, why do you even try to pick a fight thats 2vs4? Its a PLAYER, ypu cant win outnumbered vs them. Wvw is a zerg game anyway.”
Yea, those 4 were very much average people who I later solod >__< (even though there were only 3 left, but meh)
Sounds like a Mesmer to me.
Any decent roaming build can take on multiple enemies, using active defense, like stealth, teleports and evades. The insane active defense allows us to focus our stats on damage, while we trait for defense.
If you run into a zerg, just equip feedback and nullfield, and you have some vey potent boon/condition stripping + reflection. Theyre usefull in all builds, and doesnt require you to change traits every time you decide to do something :P.
Mesmers also have 2nd best single target dps of all professions, 1st being a thief. The best damage builds use 25 inspiration, which is our most important damage trait in pve, and the support traitline at the same time!
You can een take a dungeon build directly in roaming and still own in 1vsX o.O
If you want, you can forum Pm me or whisper me in game, and ill find some videos for you
. I can’t find them right now, cuz I’m on mobile :/.
if the mesmer using the signet has enhanced boon duration then yes
Thats actually not correct :/.
Signet of Inspiration transfers boons you have to others. Uses the exact duration you currently have on them. Same with arcane thievery or the flanking strike thing from thief. If you steal 30s fury, it remains 30s fury, wether you have boon duration or not :P
Confusion kinda sucks, its just a little “free” extra damage.
There are viable condition builds, but they dont center around confusion, though.
Theres a list of builds and guides stickied on the Mesmer forum, if you’re interested. Or, if you want, you can send me a forum PM or whisper me in game :D
Also, youre much better of with direct damage in pve. condition is awesome in pvp and wve though.
- When the pistol is traited (Dueling IX) the iDuelist has a 100% chance to combo when firing from within or through a field.
Just a reminder to remove this note from the Pistol description.
Yay, I am useful! :D
-Claps slowly, but fast and loud enough to make you feel like you accomplished something-
:D
I actually have 3 Mesmers, sylvari human and asura, but the Sylvari is my favourite :P
Its actually “swiftness on using skill 6” instead of “seiftness on heal”.
An unintended feature, I’d say :P
Haha, I was doing him a favour ;D
As you can see, I was actually the first Mesmer he encountered in his entire superhero carreer, I’m just here to help him prepare for what others are out there :P
edit: I finally got the Mind Crush/yugiyo thing. Searched for Mind Crush on google pictures while brainstorming for a thumbmail, and found the card :P..
I used manipulation mastery and chaotic dampening in chaos, far reaching manipulations in duelling and halting strike/empowered illusions in donination.
I did tpvp a few times, and crippling +debilitating dissipation are rather awesome when you fight on point. I also use shattered concentration for obvious reasons, but not for duels or hotjoins.
(edited by Alissah.9281)
I prefer the mantra of distraction, its lower cooldown, but most of all instant. It’s a huge deal for interupting key skills or defense when you have nothing else left.
The parts where I used the arcing sword offhand + domination signet were like 3 months ago, by then it was kinda part of the build, so I just wanted to go with it :P. On 7:10 I tried using domination signet defensively, but the 1/4 second cast time killed it :P.
And ofcourse you can use it for the actual guide :D.
I really enjoyed editing, even if I spent like 6 hours ;0. It was fun, so I don’t mind.
And after 6 hours of staring at the preview render, you can’t really judge at how much fun it actually is to watch for the first time, so I got huge self confidence issues xD. Anyway, I’m glad you like it ^__^
edit: if you ever need some tips to making a video of your own, feeel free to ask :P
Hey, so I’ve been pretty bored at times in my holiday, because my internet stopped a few times (it’s amazing how dependant we are on internet D:). So I decided to do something fun… In the form of editing a video, which I stopped with about 3 months ago.
I tried keeping it short (my definition of short may vary from yours) and as varied/fun as possible, here’s the link :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5EymK0fz8Q
I’ll make a thread for it shortly, and add a thumbmail too. I don’t mean to profit from this thread or anything, but I just figured it’s a nice place to start. If you want me to delete this post, just tell me so x.x
This would be super overpowered, though :o.
The swordsman is alreayd our best single target phantasm in a power build, wihtout bleed stacks.
At least in PvP the best way to counter Moa is to thrust your claws into your opponents face. Seriously. If you didn’t dodge Moa, peck his eyes out. Most people do not expect you to fight back and the Moa actually deals out some nice damage.
It’s true!
http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/559821183741608488/26B4BEBD1116AD369D38CB945F80574CE2E16F1C/
This one I took in the beta. Already then, I didn’t let anything stop me to still my bloodlust… kinda x.x
For PvE you should go all zerker. You’ll die sometimes, but being made of glass teaches great movement and dodging mechanics, which you’ll need in PvP. I also reccomend playing some shatter as well because you’ll learn when best to use each one of them.
Not to be elitist or anything, but in PvE phantasm builds are easy mode, and don’t really teach you anything. I highly reccomend playing a 20/20/0/0/30 or 0/20/20/0/30 in PvE with sword/x and then either GS or staff. Learn the shatter combos and when to dodge. You’ll then have a huge head start in PvP and WvW.
Edit: sorry, if you’re looking for 1v1 builds only go pure phantasm. There are a number in the above build thread.
I believe the OP was looking for some support, and your trait templates have close to no support in them :P
But yea, for roaning from easy to hard: phantasm>condition>shatter=lockdown.
Phantasm: youll win pretty much every 1v1, and have built in support traits. You only have to use phantasms for damage, the rest are for surviving.
Condition: you have to use all your skills to be as effective as possible. You have alot of defense, so running out is hard. It teaches you how to act impulsive, and use skills in a certain order, instead of thinking about what to do very well. It just doesnt have support.
Shatter: has the best burst damage, when full berserker you can down most players in about 2 seconds. In 1VSmany, ou have to make decisions on how many skills you want to use to burst, and how many you want to preserve and use to survive. Mobility and acting impulsive is very important, but there are tactical decisions involved (that with experience, alao become impulsive).
Lockdown: you do somewhat low damage, but you can completely control a single target by interupting key skills. Warrior using GS5 to get away? Interrupt.
Warrior using kill shot? Interrupt.
Thief using the stealth heal? interrupt.
Your power lock is instant, so you can pretty muh always use it. Depending on who you’re fighting, you want to save i to interrupt important skills, or if you really need to, for defense.
The build loses alot of strength when fighting multiple enemies.
Phantasm is the only one that really has support!
This is all assuming were talking wvw, btw.
After spending alot of time in hotjoins and roaming, I’m not noticing more problems than usual at all :o. 1second of immobilise is fairly easy to deal with, even if that means just tanking it. Condition thieves cant do 9k backstabs anyway :P
@ Wyldkat I love your name :D
Are you talking about wvw?
Try a 10/10/0/25/0 phantasm build, use phantasm traits and a glamour trait. Sword/X +greatsword for group play, or scepter/X for solo. Get around 2500 armor and you should be ‘tanky’.
It’s easier to give advice when you’re more specific, but I hope this helped anyway :P
Edit: you, by the way, described a Mesmer, not a warrior. You can do literally anything with a Mesmer, you just have to specialise in not too many things at once.
I wish I could get Furious Interruption to work, it sounds so much fun :/
Whenenver I interupt, I seem to be 600 units away from my target most of the time (80%) :P. Maybe with the greatsword instead of staff it would work better for me… But I like the staff so much :o.
Maybe I’m going to test sw/sw, sc/pi with 30/30/10 or 10/30/30 :D
I think scepter has better damage at <600 range than greatsword, and the magic bullet is on a lower cooldown than wave. Then I can also swap halting strike with empowered illusions, so many possibilities :O
I still think shatter Works better for me, but lockdown is just so much fun for some reason :o.
Alissah, my toughts on your post:
- I can change traits if i do thinks like a guild rush. to keep it in dungeons because you need it at guild rushes just makes you look too lazy to retrait for 3.5 silver.
Restorative Mantras is an inspiration master trait, all proper dungeon builds have atleast 25 inspiration.
Places to use mantra healing:
I like mantra healing. Especially because you dont need healing power to make it effective (it heals like 2700 with 300, and only 3000 with like 1500). In something like the grawl fractal, you can just let 3 phantasms dps while you go sword/focus sword/pistol, or maybe sword. I think the pistol will stay alive better.
OMG I have an idea
.
Does anyone know that one puzzle, where you have to carry a bomb past griffons, and it decreases your defense to they 2 shot you? Its a really open place with platforms you have to jump on, so someone can stand at a nice spot and film everything.
And here are some ideas for rules:
Ok, ok, I just got a new idea that is completely cheat-proof!
Ok, that was a lot of text. But im just tossing out ideas here :P.
I actually have another idea O.o.
Ok, that was even more text, sorry xD
