Abaddon is impossible, in the words of the gods, “he’s broken beyond the form of a thought”. Interesting wording as it means some aspect of him still exists. I think they did it so that they could still do some story involving him, but not have to worry about potential revival plots

Broken ground targetings

While testing it with auto and snap. It seems like it only works around 10% of the time even when things are in range.

The cast at feet issue is just the same old problem where it does that if your cursor is over any part of the UI. That is obviously unavoidable if you are clicking the skill(unavoidable is referring to the cursor being over the UI not the other stuff).

yes, I fear I can replicate it. but only for the skill bar, though, not all the UI. When my cursor is over the skillbar part of the UI, even when I press the number, I hop in place, or fire Symbol straight ahead

If you combine "Snap Ground Target to Current Target " with “Lock Ground Target at Maximum Skill Range”, you can get some predictable effects, such as when the target is out of range, the skill can cast at the cursor instead. That happens more frequently with short-range skills, such as Sundering Leap. (It should not happen as easily with Symbol of Energy.)

Is it possible that’s what’s going on for you?

I’m afraid not, even when I’m 100% sure I’m in range, I even tested it by standing almost a dodge’s distance away from an enemy, no matter the settings, one thing I’m certain off is that neither of the two skills I mentioned will ever automatically head to the enemy

After their last AMA, I still feel “condoned” is a better word than “allowed” but thats just me, apparantly

I suspect that is similar to the question: “are grey and gray different colors?”, or “if we meet on wednesday, and I tell you I’m moving it a week back, do we meet sooner or later than we planned?”

That is, I see why you would say that, and it’s maybe technically accurate, but practically it’s pretty much people using different terms with the same perception of how they will be read.

“it’s not good, but we are not going to ban it” is certainly within the scope of “condoned” though.

that last bit is indeed exactly what I was aiming at. “data reading only” is condoned for now, but they might increase or loosen up the regulations in the future. They wanted to give the responsibility to us to see where the damage meters evolve to

LS3 - Episode 5 Release date?

If it’s like last year, SAB will launch for April 1st and last until April 18th, which is where episode 5 will come in.

If they delay LS for SAB then I really suggest anet get their priorities straight.
SAB is a secondary minigame without any relevance to the actual game, I mean,
its fine they have it for the sake of diversity, but it shouldn’t affect their regular

many skills that have a ground targetting, when the settings are set to
snap ground target at target location ignores this setting, and instead,
will always place the target at the location of the cursor.
I haven’t tested all skills yet, but some skills do this, and this makes the
skills very annoying to use in combat.

Confirmed skills that ignore “snap at target location”, and instead always go to the cursor include:
Berserker Utility Skill: Sundering Leap
Dragonhunter Main Skill: Symbol of Energy
Necromancer Utility Skill: Corrosive Poison Cloud

allowed is still a big word. in their official wording:
“for now we will not ban the use of information reading overlays because we have not yet set a strict border for what is allowed. We will amend the rights of these addons as they evolve, and want to see where they go. In the future, we may uphold stricter, or more lenient regulation of these addons. We will maintain a set of rules wherein the overlays must function. Those who do not comply with these rules, will still risk a permanent termination of their accounts.”
in short, the addons that only read information are “allowed”, for now

When you say stuff like that, you force a discussion in one direction. Just saying you put it in quotation marks doens’t mean you’re free to say whatever you like.

The content guide is the part of the UI that points to nearby objectives. By default, this includes the personal story, which merges the story UI into it. When you choose to disable the personal story, it only stops the content guide from pointing to the story and thus no longer merges it.

There is no way to disable the story UI for the original personal story, since it can’t be abandoned like the newer stories.

I’m not too bothered by the green text in the corner, as much as I am bothered by the green markers on the map constantly telling me I need to go there. But the fact that there’s no way to hide it all is really bothersome.. surely one dev must have time to fix that?

Sundering Leap is broken

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

Sundering Leap, the berserker skill:
a) does not respond positively with autotargeting.. eg., it doesn’t target anything when autotargeting is on.
b) does not respond positively by placing the target zone upon the target when a target is selected. e.g., if you click on the skill will your mouse, or press the number key, you will always make a hop in place, or leap at the mouse, regardless of your snapping settings of the ground target.

This means you have to manually walk to your enemy, leap in place, in order for the skill to work.

TLDR:
If you click the skill button, you leap in place, regardless of having a target.
If you click the number of the set button, you leap at the mouse, regardless of having a target.
This makes the skill unusable in combat

Can elemental possess a body/living creature?

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

While I agree a single shard or solid piece is able to show elemental tendencies, we have not been shown a single instance where a bloodstone crystal is able to do so, as a result, I think it’s a bit too farfetched to assume that matthias and caudecus were possesed by bloodstone elementals. Due to the nature of bloodstone crystal I’m already having enough trouble to accept the existence of normal elementals. It feels like anet horseshoed something illogical into the game just for the sake of having something to hit.

I really believe it’s just the mind of the human returning to a primal.. or aggressive state, when exposed to so much power within their bodies. LSS, whatever’s inside caudecus and matthias is not an elemental, or at least, I have no reason to believe such. besides, the bloodstones were absorbed, so would be any magical sentience if there was any. If there was, it propably wouldn’t have been very strong or durable. it would only have been a catalyst to the already rampaging sapience.

The bloodstones lying around in his basement weren’t sentient. The sentient energies that make up elementals are usually formed from lingering or untouched magic that has no place to go anywhere. The crystals lying around didn’t show any sign of sentience. Only when amassed in large concentrations do their leaking energies seem to conjure up magical storms and anomalies, but these as well show no signs of sentience. Just that, energy or magic gone crazy without aim, just random chaos.

If not are there any games like GW2 or WOW to look out for? (not elderscrolls online though)

Sounds like you just want a completely different game, and want anet to stop making gw2 to make that game for you..
have you considered.. eehm.. I don’t know.. playing another game? because it sounds to me that just stopping to play GW2 and just booting something else is what you need.
You want a different world, different story, different races, different gameplay, that means you don’t want anything changed within GW2, you just don’t want GW2. So why are you here talking about it, instead of playing a different game?

[QOL] acountbound crafting bags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

I don’t get it, though, my point is: the bags don’t contain anything of special or unique value. They contain 3 random objects that are also individually tradable. For the same effort, they could also add a buytoken, that when clicked, immideatly adds 3 random T6 mats to your inventory. What I’m trying to say is, they’re functionally identical to bags like Bags of Stolen Goods and similar. Just a bag with random crafting materials that aren’t acountbound. Just for the sole reason of coming from laurels they made it acount bound. The market won’t change from this. I mean, all that will happen is that most likely someone will buy 100 bags, fetch an average price, and get the bags on the trading post for that amount. That’d be no different from taking out the items and selling them individually.

The crafting bags, like this Heavy Crafting Bag one, are all acount bound, and for no real reason, actually. They only contain 3 T.VI materials, and they are all normally tradable contents. When I’m on my alt, I have to open the bags, and send 2 mails to get it all over, instead of just sending the bags.
It’s not a big issue at all, just a minor inconvinience that I never why was made in the first place

Advice on starting gw2

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

1) easy classes to start with

  • I’d say, warrior for a melee class, as well as either necromancer or elementalist as a caster class. Caster classes have more peak performance, but you’d be able to do fine if you’re willing to practice a little.

2) spec/elite spec

  • well, if you go warrior, it’s mainly swing the swords. Warriors are all about mobility, never stand still, never target your enemies, always keep them in range of your swing.
  • as for the casters, well, it’s really just practice.

(swing the swords is a technicallity, swords are relatively bad weapons in this game, but they’re ok if you’re not aiming at peak performance. Greatsword with either hammer or mace+shield is considered the strongest combo with the most mobility and utility)

3) For your time range raids are possible, but difficult to manage, I’d reccomend the dungeons or fractals. Fractals can be as easy or difficult as you want them to be.

4) qT is a famous group for testing builds and finding optimal routes. http://qtfy.enjin.com/

5) practice, practice, pray to abaddon for hidden knowledge, and more practice.
thats really it. Don’t start at the top. Don’t want to start at the top. When you get started, focus on clearing the story normally. After that, go to the temples to get some nice exotic armor of your preferred build. Then do fractals or dungeons or whatever. Never be afraid to ask for help, look in the LFG tool to see if there are parties doing stuff that might favor you.

Can elemental possess a body/living creature?

Amaimon.7823

matthias is not an example of an elemental being put inside a human, where did you get that idea?
he’s a human corrupted by bloodstone, thats someone 100% different, caudecus is the same setting, bloodstones aren’t elemental creatures.
Yes, we can see bloodstone elementals in the Fen, but thats again, a different kind of thing.

EDIT: a bloodstone crystal is a crystallized form of magic that leaks from the bloodstones. It’s able to become a sentient anomaly, but what matthias and caudecus absorbed wasn’t that. I highly doubt it’s still possible to absorb bloodstone after it’s become an elemental, you would either break the magical sentience, or absorb it along with the crystals

  • do you use buffs, I can really recommend For Great Justice combined with Signet of Fury
  • do you use an appropriate weapon type:
    -Greatsword: fast heavy damage
-Hammer: slow heavy damage with CC
-Axes: fast medium damage, aimed at group combat
-Swords, fast medium damage, aimed conditions
-maces faster, weaker version of hammer
-shield, no damage at all obviously
    -warhorn, utility tool
    -torch: condition aoe

Map completion is also fine, but then it shouldn’t game with a gift of exploration, as that’s tied to legendary crafting.

But indeed, maybe controlling or making the stone requires blood.

Grawl and bloodstone

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

I’m not not talking about a shard, I’m talking about a full on bloodstone
A 50 meter radius giant disc with red glowing patterns and giant spires of bloodstone crystal. A grawl’s gotta be enticed by it.

I disagree with that. Bloodstones may be 50 meters in diameter, but they’re embedded in the ground. Grawl are attracted to tall objects, such as the crystals in Ascalon or statues like Badazar or Chokocooka, but would look at a rock in the ground, however large intricate, and look down on it – both literally and figuratively. So if one of the bloodstones were found by grawl, I’m pretty sure they’d just move on without desire to worship it.

However, as I type this out, I realize it’d be a very skritt thing to worship a big Shiny in the ground. And I fear very much the next time we find a bloodstone that it’ll be infested by skritt.

They may be embedded in the ground, but they have magical shiny patterns
and not to mention the bloody huge crystals growing out of it.
https://wiki.guildwars.com/images/f/f7/Bloodstone_Caves_Level3_Bloodstone.jpg
This one looks like a proper altar. As for the skritt.. I don’t know if glowing stuff attracts them as much as shiny stuff. Maybe yes, maybe no. I don’t think the bloodstone rune itself is shiny enough for them, but maybe the leaking crystals are..

now that I think about it, I always just kind of assumed that the bloodstone crystal was leaking magic that crystalized, hence it’s called bloodstone because it’s magic is tainted with life (or soul, or whatever you call it), but it may also be called bloodstone because it was sealed with Doric’s blood. (but then why did the gods call it bloodstone before Doric’s passing)

Predictions for (Final?) Episode 5 [Spoilers]

in Living World

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

The Devs have stated there won’t be any new Worlds for SAB, but that they planned on releasing it yearly as a Festival (of sorts), (with the new items usually released with Festivals each year).

I guess I’m fine with that, I just hate to think valuable resources would be a wasted on something that’s not even secondary to the game

What resources though? Assuming nothing in the game engine changed, all they’re essentially doing is “flipping a switch” to re-enable access to the SAB instance.

If you remember from a couple years ago, someone had logged into a trial account, which they used for SAB a year or so before that, and was able to play it to a degree. It’s still there in the game.

Making new maps, new bosses, and new enemies, like they did last time.
That takes a lot of resources. As I said, I’m fine with the flip of the switch, but they shouldn’t chain a dev to play the an orchestra on the content

Where did I say that they would add a new world. SAB last year was no different than Sept 2013 other than the addition of the collections. They could certainly release episode 5 at the same time or after it which I think would only be two weeks later (April 18th?).

didn’t last year have an extra map, something with ninjas and a storm wizard. I remember the previous version of SAB ended after the waterfall, after the frog fight

Asura Age vs Size

in Lore

Posted by: Amaimon.7823

Amaimon.7823

While I don’t have any hard evidence, I’m pretty sure there are some physically attractive traits for asura, but they aren’t necessarily the primary source of attractiveness. They frequently discuss the size of asuran ears, so I’m certain that factors in somehow, perhaps as an indicator of how intelligent an asura is (even if it’s a false association).

I don’t think asura love lives are explored that often. The Dynamics college personal story discusses a bit about an asura who loves another, if I remember the story properly, but it’s been a long time since I’ve played that line, so I don’t remember much about their relationship except that it didn’t really have a happy ending.

As for the original question, which I don’t think was ever answered, asura seem to age at a rate similar to humans. When I asked a similar question months ago, I didn’t really get an answer other than that, either.

if I understood it right, the average age is
Charr > Human > Norn > Asura
Sylvari are simply too young to consider, and the age of the Charr might be heavily influenced by the fact they’re warmongrels, or live on junkyards scrapping in the oil and metals. Tends to get in your blood system.

It’s funny how Asura do age the fastest though. I don’t know the exact numbers, but at least within two years after birth an Asura is at school, like a pre-college.
