Daggers is the best pve weapon

I like Dagger in the other set, I often keep it paired with another dagger just for the extra condi removal or applying some opportune condi to the enemy. So for me, dagger/dagger (although it’s so versatile to swap OH so could be anything) + GS.

I would like to use the staff but it just doesn’t feel good enough. I always feel a bit meh with it :/

That event really rubs its silliness in your face when the enemy’s named Chak Regent. I mean Gerent.

But seriously, I’ve still not finished it once, and I haven’t actually finished a Dragon’s Stand map either. I guess I just have to learn the group finder map swapping rather than staying in my map.

Don’t think it’s condition damage but rather that the druid spec is pretty amazing at making your character stay alive, since it’s intended to add healing and damage prevention. For personal purposes you don’t even need to gear for that to reap pretty big benefits.

A major, major part in my opinion, is just because it is so unusual in a fantasyish rpg/mmorpg; typically things like warrior, wizard, paladin (or the like such as guardians), thieves or assassins always has a solid playerbase regardless of its balance or gameplay.

But also because it’s more complex than most once you get into kits.

Amethyst Lure.5624

I liked them on my main, but i must admit a couple of them are irksome for alts. I think it’s mostly those that are either annoying to get to or simply overtuned that’s trouble. For example i seldom have trouble with finding people for the Balthazar one, but canopy points in VB can be tougher because people are doing night stuff or don’t know how to get up during day.

Anyway, I do think it will become more of a problem as HoT matures and less need them.

Amethyst Lure.5624

I think all skills like this is an outlier in Wvw and the like where there is total chaos and somebody can sit and sort of ‘ambush’ you with it as you can’t track everything. It’s pretty possible to avoid it in 1v1 etc scenarios, conversely… not sure where to put the balance on ranged aoe skills that way and satisfy both of them. And they kind of have to focus the design on the fewer case scenario.

I suppose it is a form of tax for the fact that it is so liberal with ignoring defenses, that the damage is a bit subpar. I still enjoy it for the rare times you need to go ranged in a power build; I feel like staff is really poor there since that usually means you’re fighting one difficult target.

Marauder is great although it’s basically zerker with a bit of vit so it’s not very different. I’m currently working on a healing power offset, keeping it about half celestial (though ideally I would love to convert this to a 4-stat instead over time) and half cleric.

Different approach to CAF

Amethyst Lure.5624

The skills draining astral force would feel about 50 times more intuitive. :P

To elaborate, I feel like this form’s design is such that you should plan when to use it, given its power, but it feels very weird to pop it and then just spam as much as you possibly can instead of actually use things tactically. Healing tends to work a bit differently from dealing damage that way. You more often look for specific conditions to happen or -respond- to things, whether preemptively or not.

You can actually use glint heal while CC’d too. But I mean, I also love Mallyx heal. I think we have quite good heals despite them being tuned lower. The lower is conditional, so if you do things right they heal really well.

Hammer's throw animation

Amethyst Lure.5624

Initially I didn’t like it, but now I only wish the projectile matched your weapon (maybe it’s just unmanageable tho) or at least looked a bit more mistier so you can only roughly see. Also, i don’t think you actually throw it, but rather fling a mist-copy of it or so. Might just be me misinterpreting though.

The reason that it won me over some is, try looking closely when it’s used. I just love that swing around and the other hand bracing the haft. That’s the kind of detail that really made me love this game.

Anyone try full cleric build yet?

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

For solo PvE i think you can make most things work, just build to the strengths of your armour; doesn’t have to be ventari but you could go for the siphon life traits.

I’ve got celestial + cleric stuff I’ve dabbled with, although like Rym said it’s so hard to see how things matter or not. One thing I did note is that I think I am always going to be going with the Harmonize Continuity trait in Herald that stunbreaks others when you do. A fair few mechanics kind of ignores your healing and kills you (and potentially others, more importantly) despite the healing you have, and when you heal it feels like you sometimes have to put yourself in danger a bit more than when your sole aim is to target a boss.

At the very least i will flip between it and Bolster Fortifications as per enemy mechanics…

Shiro's heal skill

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

At the same time you have to remember these aren’t supposed to be the very best heals, considering we have two of them albeit at the significant cost of having to swap legend. I feel like Shiro works quite well, doubling as a DPS skill. You have to use the right weapon for it though if you want fast heals – the Hammer is a lot worse at burst healing with it than the Staff or Sword.

The Glint heal is an outlier in my eyes, since it can be the best heal in the game by far with foresight and the right situation, providing multiple huge heals within its duration, or it can do little if you’re faced by attrition. All this with no cast time whatsoever. I wouldn’t call it balanced in any direction but it’s quite enjoyable, and perhaps that variance balances it out in the end.

How many of you guys main Reaper and why ?

I don’t really have one main but with my Necro it is my favoured specialization along with Blood and Death magic (though I only run them together for fun…), because it is extremely fun to play Reaper with GS. Looks awesome, can stay in melee through extraordinary situations… undervalued qualities.

Hammer Timers....

Amethyst Lure.5624

It’s one of the stronger ranged weapons in the game in my experience. i think only the terrain bugs are something that needs fixing (if possible, terrain and skills is ever a dilemma at times). i think in the case of #5, the power of the skill is offset by the long cast time. If it was reduced I’d bet it was changed otherwise too.

Improving Ventari

Amethyst Lure.5624

In general I agree that the traits for each spec are way too narrow in each row in places, especially in Salvation and Retribution lines but you can also see it for instance in devastation with the two dual wield traits on the same row. There should be more variety in such places to make picking traits more diverse if you go Salvation for example. Even if it’s intended that if you go Centaur stance you have to select Salvation, there is too little of it.

My pet peeves otherwise is mainly the unresponsive feel of the tablet. the cooldown AND trajectory time makes it feel really weird to me, and I feel like it should only have one of these or at least only a very short cooldown to prevent “stacking abuse” later in the raids. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve often played a totem or other external mechanic class in other mmos and i have no problem with that (in fact I enjoy it), but clunky is clunky.

I also believe that energy costs need a real looking over across the entire class… I feel like only Mallyx and possibly Glint has reasonable energy use, and then of those two it’s more circumstantial for Mallyx (you don’t want to use a couple of skills at all if you can help it).

How to use Staff and Assassin Stance?

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

I use staff in my second slot to crush break bars and cleanse conditions. Actually, a more honest thing to say is that I swap between sword/x (or mace/axe if condi), staff, AND Hammer as needed. Sometimes the Hammer is hard to beat, and you still need break bar destruction, then I will go both.

Sitting in staff the entire time I only really do for fun in open world, i think it works better to swap to as needed otherwise. This is my personal opinion tho

From Ranger to Revenant? Should I?

Amethyst Lure.5624

Rev is actually very versatile in the ‘role’ picks but you have to lock into certain niches before you enter combat. So while you have a few extra utility skills (although you could argue Druid can match it) you aren’t as fluid as responding to things – but you may just have the answer with planning, though.

I find both classes very enjoyable, so I play both. If you want to provide healing, Druid is definitely in a better spot than Ventari tho.

I’ve never really felt like my Necro struggles at all in open world and Reaper certainly didn’t make things more difficult. Nice and enjoyable, I play a mix between valk and zerker.

So who's loving herald???

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

For open world stuff my favourite thing is playing Herald with a fluid second legend, I’ve got both condi gear and power as well as celestial gear. Most of the time is spent in power gear providing boons to people; I have always loved that so much in mmos – not necessarily heal support but providing buffs and the like while support-dpsing.

Most-slotted weapon is staff, as i can’t live without its utility and i love its look, but sword/x or mace/axe is often the second, unless i need range and it’s Hammer-time (which i also love so, wish we had three slots…).

She’s named Saeunn Ravengaze and is obviously a Norn – the bestest race. No bias whatsoever here.

I mostly just hate the damage variance on the range. It might make some sense or so but I never fancied it when playing, since it’s so automatic and I really enjoy using the skills of whom most work best or benefits from close range.

Is Berzerker only gear choice?

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

I use Marauder for power set but that’s almost = Zerker i suppose.

As for condi, i’m still hoping that the elite toggle will make torment tick for full damage always. Would be a nice solution to me, making it actually useful and fun to time. i do play it from time to time and I rather enjoy the fields it comes with.

Rev feels... lackluster

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

I would say it is somewhat incomplete thanks to being new and from various stages of iteration (compared to the older classes) but i have a lot of fun with it. It really satisfies my hybrid wishes for a character, if that makes sense. I played a shaman in that other game a lot, if that means something to you that is a big reason why i love particularly the Herald legend. A lot of team support.

Mallyx is fun when you want to dole out conditions with some nice utility to it, although I feel like this probably needs a bit of trait work especially.

Shiro doesn’t need any work except maybe lessening impossible odds impact so that you actually consider weapon skills in his stance for anything else than utility.

Jalis and Ventari are fun (although I feel like the tablet for the latter feels a little unresponsive at times), but i think they share a certain unknown as to what their place in the grand scheme of things are even if their roles are sort of stated, taking damage and healing. Perhaps this will develop as the expansion matures though.

I would love to see a twist, because while it was a decent telling i felt like it was very straightfowards, like the tactics and path employed by the pact commander and her team was way too predictable for a being like Mordremoth. I feel like it was a little too much so to lead to instant success.

Although I admit I was often lamenting the fact that the very environment (if it was part of Mordremoth like suggested) could easily kill the team if it actually did something. But i tend to forgive stuff like that.

I found one, it’s my luckiest drop in my 2,5 years of playing. <3 I use it for my Revenant, it feels so Glint-y. It doesn’t glow in the terrain, but you see the light runes glimmer if you look close, looks really good. The cloth has full physics although it can sometimes be a bit wonky while it’s sheathed depending on how abruptly you stop etc.

Btw, it was a bit weird for me, at first in preview it looked really small but then it scaled up all of a sudden. So doublecheck that unless it was fixed. Here’s the size on a norn if anybody’s interested, and also differences in lighting:

Hammer 3 seems to only travel a finite range even if the levitation adds some to the trajectory, so you often see yourself slamming the air above and missing. :P

But ye a fair bit of terrain stuff. At the same time some things are unsolvable (such as the shiro teleport) without changing the skill and will always glitch at times, it’s a design problemthat’s been around since the dawn of modular 3d terrain i think.

Amethyst Lure.5624

I don’t know if you should bash the Rev just because they have a heavy boon focus if they spec Glint. They don’t have Aegis, they have less gameplay-involved defense, and it’s more about providing protection, regen and blinds if so. And they can’t spec into everything at once. but they’re versatile for sure. Which i also feel a Guardian is, just it’s different. For instance Guardian is definitely better at providing heals in an off-role manner, you have to go Ventari and nerf everything else as a Rev (except a minor heal on staff and an ok one on shield), since your predefined utility is changed.

Anyway my point is that I wouldn’t blame revenant for stealing Guardian thunder, I think if so there is more changes within guardian that could be done.

Lemme guess..future UA nerf?

in Revenant

Amethyst Lure.5624

Don’t make comparisons from class to class, I would say. The skills are balanced within different “ecosystems” in part, I mean it was an incredibly powerful pet skill if you also add the ranger next to it. While I acknowledge Rangers hasn’t always had it easy it was a potential outlier for sure… particularly when the pet also has that smoke field skill. Really stacked with goodies.

As for UA, if they change it i would say it would be good to give it a rule that for example on a single target it could only hit 5 unique times (or whatever) instead of the full number of hits. In a multitarget setting there’s nothing to suggest it’s too good, but there could be a case for a single target one burstwise.

Herald nothing more than a boon bot?

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

I don’t think Herald is just about boons, but even if it was… isn’t that a valid direction to take a specialization? Isn’t providing boons as valid as dealing damage or providing heals? I really, really like the fact that you can either sit in Glint a little more than usual to make sure that you provide important boons to people near you or else just burn through energy to swap legends faster if you need to provide another role, but with significant boons lingering still.

Maybe it just resonates with me since in other MMOs, and indeed rpgs I have always played the characters that can cross boundaries and dabble in two types of things, such as melee/magic damage, buffing/tanking etc. I feel like most classes in GW2 does this but Revenant just has access to a lot of ways to help.

Lets talk Mallyx

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

I mainly wanted to comment on one thing and that is the serious disparagity of the weapon traits. Currently it’s clear that only a few of the weapons are supported through traits, and i think this is really annoying – particularly with sword, which has a trait to make it the default Power dps weapon without question, as if it wasn’t stacked already. To me this is a really poor design choice. Either have none of those traits (would work great for Revenant, likely the route I’d choose) or have some for each. Let the weapons speak for themselves instead.

In terms of the feedback, I agree with some things but I do for example think there is no issue with legends to pair with Mallyx. Glint works, Shiro works… Jalis and Ventari perhaps less, but i feel that is more on them than on Mallyx. I feel like what needs to be changed with Mallyx isn’t to replace any skills or so, it’s more some traits are confused as to which Mallyx version went retail, and some skills could have something extra. For example the Elite – you could add an Enhanced Torment feature to it where Torment always deals full damage while it’s active, or let it increase your defenses.

Blighter's Boon isn't bad.

in Necromancer

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

I think the change it recieved is because of raids and how much it would do for a Necro in one, above all. Both scaling up the LF gen and the sustain (both through LF and hp gain) in a significant manner, potentially creating imbalances… just guessing though

Regardless while it’s cool with synergy i think there is just a too crazy amount of boon applications to tie it to that without an ICD nightmare. I’d love if they kept it something as is but maybe adjusted it if it needs to. Not convinced yet since Necro has so many sources to trait for regen, and they can add up if you actually do it.

The Revenant is clunky.

in Revenant

Posted by: Amethyst Lure.5624

Amethyst Lure.5624

Impossible odds is greyed out because it needs all upkeep slots to be free. I think it’s a fair mechanic considering that skill’s power to either consume Facet of Nature or plan so that it is deactivated through use of abilities in Glint stance before you swap.

Also I think it’s fair to require you to keep Impossible odds toggle in mind for when you need to toggle it off. I don’t really like automated gameplay and Impossible odds is already quite automated. But that’s all my opinion.

Regarding #2 I would say that a lot of Revenant traits should have a general review -at some point- because they still have relics from various iterations of the class, such as when weapons were tied to a Legend or when mechanics worked differently (Mallyx) etc. But it works, just… could work more smoothly.
