As a raider from a guild in another game before GW2, I really miss raids and gear progression. I know that’s an unpopular point of view with most GW1 players, but… I guess that’s why I played this other game instead of GW1! I think I was a rare subset of the population of this other game, because I was fairly casual (raided about once-twice a week, and we could sometimes beat the current raid before the next came out) and I didn’t mind that there were gear and things out there that were unattainable for me and my playstyle. I felt like it gave me something to strive for, and those that made the sacrifice to get those things deserved them.
After a lot of thought on the issue, I’ve come to realize this: while I do miss the raids, what I am really missing is my guild camaraderie, and feeling part of a team. This is something that I don’t feel like GW2 does very well, for whatever reason. In my other game, I gave my all to my guild, forming friendships that lasted years, putting time in as an officer, and eventually being elected guild leader. I have joined a similar type of guild in GW2, but for some reason the X factor just isn’t there and I can’t seem to put my finger on it.
This was nigh unreadable.
Even so, I stand with these other posters in opposition to you, OP.
Okay guys, obviously if we get buffed or get some bug fixes, we’re happy this next update.
But I’m asking…what happens if we DON’T GET BUFFED? What if we get nerfed even more?
Let’s be honest here, what are we going to do about it? It’s obvious all our whining ain’t doin jack squat, so what we gonna do? Delete all our Engies? I for one don’t want to as my Engies my first 80 and my main.
But seriously…What are we gonna do? Gather up the remaining 80 Engineers in all of GW2 and march to ArenaNet headquarters and knock or what?
I’ve got a few weeks off until my next job starts, so let me know if a trip to Anet is in order.
When someone links a rare, I’m like – congratulations on the potential ectoplasm.
I feel that only exotics and up should be linked; anything else is too common.
but they are also utilizing an exploit by circumventing the game’s block and possibly report feature.
The bell thing would be annoying, but this is clearly not true.
I’d just like to comment on what they said about engineers:
Bettin’ this is just a bullkitten ruse to nerf Engineers and Necros while buffing Warriors and Thieves.
That’s ridiculous.
They don’t need a ruse to do that.
At least they’re buffing our single target skills! like flametrower, oh.
Pistols? nope.
Hmmm… bombs, grenades are getting nerfed… which leaves us with our mighty Rifle!
Think of all the different builds that will become viable, imagine the versatility.
Rifle 4 and 5 are AoE, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!
I think you mean 3 and 5. You’re an elementalist in disguise, aren’t you?
Yeah, I just check them real quick 1-2 times a day when things are slow. I’m really not the complaining type. There are some real immature people in the engineering forums that yell and kitten and moan about the profession – all the while I’m having a blast (pun intended) playing my engineer. There are some great discussions and well-worded complaints in there too.
It just feels like whenever I listen or read dev feedback, none of it has anything to do with me. I honestly think that I’ve never heard or read the word ‘engineer’ from a dev’s mouth or keyboard aside from the profession description on the website, or patch notes. Our last patch addressed only one of the many issues the engineer forums have been wondering about for months now – and we’re left wondering about the rest of the issues. Like I said, if their answer to them are “it’s fine the way it is, and it will stay that way”, then I’ll be happy, shut up, and continue to play my engineer. But the lack of even acknowledgement of us as a profession is quite unsettling!
Hi everyone – I’m Amos and I play an engineer. I LOVE my engineer, his tools, his playstyle, everything! I come here as an ambassador from the engineering forums with some questions to ask. I understand developers do not normally post in ANY of the profession-specific forums, so I was hoping to get a miracle here
It’s incredibly frustrating to not get any feedback on your profession from the developers. It seems like any time there is a developer post, blog article, or live stream, they talk about mesmers, warriors, guardians, elementalists and thieves. I was thinking about this after today’s stream when someone asked about class balance across the board, and they made one point about elementalists, another about mesmers, then moved on.
I’d like to ask if the community can point me in the direction of any information about the dev’s feelings on engineers. It is my understanding that, for whatever reason, official game information can be released on third party sites such as Twitter Reddit, etc., while the official site inexplicably goes uninformed.
Honestly, if a dev told me right now that they felt engineers were fine and nothing is going to happen to them, I’d be satisfied with that! My engineer does quite well in pve and pvp, and I’m completely happy playing him as-is. It’s just the sheer amount of questions, bugs, and stuff that goes not only unanswered but unacknowledged that is so frustrating. I KNOW that they are reading the posts, and I KNOW things are in the works, I would just like to hear more about it in the meantime. I feel like I know other professions’ futures better than my own!
Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever heard any Anet member ever say the word “engineer”, or refer to us in any way on the forums…
Only an engineer would wear socks with sandals.
I didn’t read all of this, so I apologize if this has been posted.
If these caps were to be removed (or conditions just made to do more damage), would we see less abilities that inflict these conditions? Seems like there are a lot of attacks out there that just stack up these conditions. I don’t even build for conditions at all, and yet I apply six of them regularly without even trying to. I think that if they improve condition damage or remove the stack limit, then they should also change conditions to be something that is consciously applied, rather than something that accumulates by accident.
I seriously don’t understand how people are having such a hard time with this. I’ve been able to do it multiple times on multiple characters, and usually when our side is in last place in the WvW map.
In my personal experience, most people I’ve talked to with this complaint in-game haven’t actually attempted to complete WvW zones yet. They open their maps, see they don’t control something, and don’t even try. When I did my map completion, I had to discover zones behind enemy lines. After a few deaths, I got it done just by running in, using some defensive skills and dodges, and running away.
From this photo, it’s obvious what they think of our profession. Allll the way at the bottom.
We can’t let ourselves be treated this way – who will stand with me?!
(not to be confused with JavaScript – Java is to JavaScript as car is to carpet).
What I learned today is that JavaScript lines the floor of Java to make it more comfortable and visually appealing.
I was fine on my necro, elementalist and a mesmer could not even get close to their targets. Those critters sometimes spawn as vets.
Oo I never saw them do that. And if that happens, ask for help from your group, roflstomp them and make them respawn again as normal mobs.
Besides, you are supposed to be able to solo vets with a couple adds in this game. It happens often enough in skill challenges for example.
Yes, I’ve been doing some zone completion today, and have found a lots of soloable skill points where you fight a veteran + adds.
Rifle.
But then I use rifle for almost everything.
In my opinion, direct damage is going to be better for your damage output than condition damage will be. Condition damage can cap, things can be immune to it, etc. No one is immune to a rifle in the face. No one.
I’m more bothered by the fact that nothing is immune to bleeding. earth elementals, ghosts, golems…they all bleed. I figure if they were going to give the dredge an immunity based in lore they should have been more consistent with it as an over all design.
It isn’t anything game breaking. Obviously it comes down to a game play based decision taking precedent over lore. But I can definitely relate with you being puzzled by it.
Ghosts bleed ectoplasm, golems bleed oil, earth elementals bleed…… hmm, out of ideas here.
Try engineer. If you don’t love it right away, you can quit. Personally, I can’t play anything else above 20. I just love my engineer too much.
WeI purged it with no chat. Think this is hard? Good luck with the swamp fractal.
Actually Im at Fractals 11 with 2 pink rings.
That sucks man. Sounds like you’ve run in to some real jerks. I’m on 21 right now, but if someone needs an encounter explained on the 10 daily, I’m happy to take the time and do it in a nice way. Heck, I even took some time the other day to help someone get through level 1 – none of them new anything about it, but with some careful explanations and Norn-sized patience, I got them through it
Do you look for groups on gw2lfg.com? This is where I get all my groups, and almost always get good people from that site. It’s safe and acknowledged by ArenaNet (they stickied the post).
I would run 4 kit but elixir R is just too kitten sweet to drop!
This!
I love me some R. Of course, I’m mostly a dungeoneer, but I run rifle, healing turret, flamethrower, toolkit, R, and supply drop.
After Old Tom, you can go back and an engineer can teleport everyone through a rock to the upper level. I won’t give the method (hopefully Anet knows it already), but it essentially skips the second harpie section. Now as much as I would LOVE to skip this section, I refuse to exploit. As you might imagine, this earns me much grief from certain party members:
“Dude just do it”
“If it weren’t for this kittening engineer, we’d have been done 15 minutes ago”
“Just kick him if he won’t do it”
“Anet won’t actually ban you for doing this” (as if the only reason to do the right thing is to avoid punishment)
And so on.
Please fix this ASAP so doing the right thing is a little easier on me!
Please make sure to throw food in the Mystic Forge when you can.
Today I found my long lost sister who it seems fell into the forge 8 years ago. Trapped and helpless, she lived offf the meager offerings of food being tossed into the forge.
She said there were others there. They are probably hungry.
Might try that i think my sister would count as 4 items
I apologise, i will stop spitting on forge from this day forth
That’s nothing – I’ve been taking the term Mystic Toilet literally.
Yeah, seemed like the was no warning on the aoe spew. Like I would take damage at the same time the red circles appeared, whereas in other dungeons I get time to dodge. And the respawning flowers! I can’t even tell you how annoying those are. Keep in mind as an engineer, about 3/4 of my kits and abilities would just miss them completely.
Penguin, send me an invite! Name is Emeritus Flame, and I’m on Sanctum of Rall.
Doing my first TA run ever right now.
Don’t think I’ll ever be coming back! What a frustrating place.
For dungeons/fractals, I go rifle with power/precision, Elixir R, and two of the following: Flamethrower, Toolkit, Grenade Kit. Usually FT/Tool. And of course Supply Drop. I’m traited 20/30/0/0/20 with the obvious trait choices. (With FT and Toolkit, the most fun thing is to get a guardian with no range trying to hit an enemy nearby – you air blast the enemy away from him, he goes to chase it, you magnet it back to you, he runs back, then you overcharged shot the enemy back away from you. They get so mad lol.)
In pvp, I try all sorts of things but with a bigger focus on toughness and vitality, and sometimes use pistol/shield. My fights tend to be long because we’re not in the best place right now as far as power, but we are in a good place with control. If I come up against someone with stability, I don’t tend to do well. But if I can knock someone around at will with two short cd knockbacks, a pull, a reflect, an immobilize, etc, I usually can win – sometimes against multiple players. If I try to counter glass cannons, I’ll use a shield to eat most of their burst, or I will put some confusion on them with pistol/prybar and they hurt themselves pretty badly.
I am by no means an expert on engineer, but I just can’t bring myself to play another class just yet. I have too much fun on my engineer. I’m probably not doing things optimally, and I’m sure this setup of mine will be criticized, but hey – I do well with it and I have fun! While I’ve read about and tried different builds from this forum, I generally just make my own builds in a way that makes sense to me. I have a winning record in s and t pvp and never had trouble completing a dungeon or fractal (currently level 21). I’ve never felt like I’m a detriment to my team.
Why are people operating under the assumption that legendaries are something everyone should have, and that they should have them in a short period of time?
My engineer remains my only extensively played class. He continually impresses other players in dungeon and fractal groups, holds his own well in any type of pvp, and explores any pve area without trouble. He looks forward to some well-deserved buffs and knows that because he does well now, he will only do better then. He certainly does not lie around wallowing in self-pity waiting for other people to improve things for him.

Sheesh, seven whole minutes.
lol – all those MBs I downloaded were three bullet points?
I can’t get her to talk to me either – I’ve completed the heart and everything.
Sanctum of Rall server.
WAIT A MINUTE – this only happens to engineers?! I’ve never played anything else past 10 and just assumed it was a game-wide thing.
Been playing since the first beta for prepurchasers. Still play as often as I can, and I still feel like there’s so much I want to do! I don’t even have an alt past 20 yet because I love my main, and have a ton of stuff left to do on him. Don’t let forumgoers get you down OP!
Need to Tolkien this up a bit:
“Do not meddle with the affairs of Engineers for they are subtle and quick to anger.”
“Many that are buffed deserve nerfs. And some that are nerfed deserve buffs. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out nerfs in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends. I have not much hope that the engineer can be cured before he dies, but there is a chance of it. And he is bound up with the fate of his kits. My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end; and when that comes, the pity of ArenaNet may rule the fate of many – yours not least.”
“The engineer is nerfed. I feel it in the nade. I feel it in the turret. I smell it in the flamethrower. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.”
“I am nerfed, Gandalf. I don’t look it, but I am beginning to feel it in my heart of hearts. Versatile, indeed! Why, I feel all thin, sort of stretched, if you know what I mean: like butter that has been scraped over too much bread. That can’t be right. I need a buff, or something.”

Who reads the TOS? Did you?
What if i’m not good with English? You can’t agree to a contract to which you don’t have the capacity to fully comphrend it. It will be deem voided.Don’t make me laugh.
What? Should someone be bound to a contract that they don’t understand?
They shouldn’t sign a contract they don’t understand.
The entire event was a pile of marketing pooh and I’m glad it is over.
Welcome to Christmas!
Don’t forget the amazing ability of making ghosts bleed…
Well, obviously they’re bleeding, um….ghost fluids….
Ectoplasm? Because yeah, I can understand ghosts or wraiths bleeding ectoplasm, or golems bleeding oil.
Now when you get to games that allow SKELETONS to bleed… that’s when you gotta wonder what the bloody eff.
….um….they’re bleeding…..skeleton fluids?

Marrow. The word is marrow.
Is it just me, or does the link not work? I even tried copying and pasting…
If you feel the monthly reward is worth doing the tasks, then do them! If you don’t, then don’t do them. What’s the big deal? I honestly don’t know if I’ve completed a monthly yet – I just don’t pay attention to them.
You’d know. You get 10 jugs of liquid karma (40k Karma) and 20 mystic coins.
Meh – I’ve got most of the gear I want, and could buy my legendary if I wanted to. I’d rather craft it myself though! Don’t really have a use for karma or coins.
My character, obviously:
EDIT: Didn’t read the whole thread and didn’t see that a lot of people posted their own characters. Oh well :/

Stick with it phaseman. We’ve all been where you are!
lol…
fyi, i still enjoy and love this game… dont care about the hatters
Those hatters drive me mad.
I probably opened a couple thousand without getting it, so I just went and bought one. Was only 45g at the time…
Orange pixel, anyone?
I never dungeon without R. It’s so amazing that I don’t even consider switching it out for anything. I even revived THREE downed players at the same time while they were in an AOE damage field. Totally saved the fight. You’re right though – I have yet to see the R used by another engineer.
Yep – I usually make a post (if I don’t instantly find a group on there already), log in and play for 10 minutes or so doing whatever I want wherever I want, and then I’m asked to join a group.
