Yea, your whole idea on the bots would fail instantly.
Lets go back a few years, there is a game called Runescape, it is very profitable to sell fake runescape money for real cash to people, the Asians figured this out and hired programmers to create bots to play Runescape for them. They have huge warehouses full of hundreds of computers that are taken care of by people they can pay pennies.
These bots have become so advance that you can basically do anything you want in that game with a program, I’m not going to go to far into detail but you really can program scripts to do anything in that game.
If Anet allows farming in this game the Asians will do the same thing with Guild Wars and nothing Anet tries will be able to stop them from scripting around it. If you put some random box on the screen telling people to leave or whatever it would take them 2 minutes to go rescript a way around it.
If you don’t want this game to be filled with bots, then there cannot be any easy farming methods.
You make so you have to manually type in something to keep you from being logged out.
I wonder when Anet will actively fight TP bots…my guess, never
I really wish people would stop quoting the dictionary…anyways…
This was absolutely NOT an exploit.
If a quest specified you needed to kill 10 Undead….but you killed 15 instead, accidentally or on purpose…would that be considered an exploit? Would you report yourself for doing so?
Right, because making sure a word is used properly never helps things :p
This is quite simply a game design/mechanics exploit. Not saying that if it was a crime it’d be a life sentence type crime or even just a “minor” felony (this type would be a misdemeanor). While I don’t doubt this will get changed (probably just remove the drops/exp) I don’t see them banning anyone over it.
why do you guys use the word “exploit” so often? because you think its not right? so not right means exploit?
who are you to judge if its an exploit or not?
it was build this way, intended to be, will be. is that not sufficient?
everything you don’t like is an exploit?
god bless america.
If it was intended they wouldnt have changed it
This counters your reply in full.
There were an excessive number of bots at that location on several servers, so the spawns during the event (only) had their loot reduced. No changes were made to any creature outside the event, including wraiths in other locations. We tried to find the simplest, safest change possible. I hope that answers the question, but I really don’t want to get into a debate about “What is farming?” or “Does farming hurt the economy?” or “Economy? It’s a game, who cares?”
Not once did he mention the word exploit.
This is so discouraging…
Anet what do you want us to do? Really? Every farm spot keeps getting nerfed. It seems like are only looking out for the interests of the TP traders. What ever can boost their profit margins right?
What are we to do? Just farm events themselves? For 1.8s a pop with increasing long cd’s…
Farm hearts? What for 50c to 3s a pop?
Farm dungeons, maybe….but we get smacked with dr and not everyone has an army of alts…
DR, intentional reduction of loot drop were there can be a mass of mobs
I give up…
I have yet to see people swearing at others trying to complete that event. Not saying it doesn’t or can’t happen but generalize farmers as ravenous, rude and foaming at the mouth is just ridiculous and flat out false….few of us are actually like that. Farmers are always willing to stop what they are doing, even is that means missing out of some loot to rez a downed player.
No on is stopping anything from happening.
I had to listen today how in real life I must be working in Mcdonnalds, how I’m a worthless human being and how dare I interrupt their farm? I also had them say to me that they’ll going to stand there and watch me die to Lyssa now, that they will not help and therefore will prevent my event from being completed. They also tried to pull mobs on me.
Yes, they do do that. Events should not be farmed.
Like I said I wasn’t saying it doesn’t happen or can’t happen…I think THOSE people who resort to those tactics hurt the game…report them when this happens. But in my experience farmers are helpful and nice.
Like in any game or part of this game….there will always be bad eggs.
But have to say I agree with you 100% Vol. I am literally the last of my group of friends to stick to this game…I really love this game. But it does seem that Anet seem hell bent of alienating what I guess is a fairly large portion of its population.
Anet…how do you think it feels that we hear how good TP traders do, gold wise, all the while you are nerfing every single avenue of gold making us farmers use?
(edited by Amun Ra.6435)
I’ve been to malchor’s leap today to get the farmers away from there. What kind of impression do you think you give a new player when he goes to finish a temple event to buy his first ever pair of exotics and gets chased away by people swearing at him, because they want the event not completed and the temple not open so that they could continue getting sweet lootz?
If you want to farm go and do it in places where it doesn’t affect other players or ruin our world. Like the easy to run dungeon paths or go and kill mobs somewhere in the open world. Do not stop events from progressing and do not try to stop people completing them. Now there’s close to 20 events in the world that give you a guaranteed rare (see ecto and yellow prices – those are falling because of easy to get rares and rewarding world events) the same events have a high chance to drop a unique exotic or a precursor.
I have yet to see people swearing at others trying to complete that event. Not saying it doesn’t or can’t happen but generalizing farmers as ravenous, rude and foaming at the mouth is just ridiculous and flat out false….few of us are actually like that. Farmers are always willing to stop what they are doing, even is that means missing out of some loot to rez a downed player.
No on is stopping anything from happening.

Just another good spot to farm wiped out oh well, not surprised at all since almost every spot that people have gone in mass has be wiped out where it is almost useless to farm anymore. Why can’t they leave some of these places in? Spend more time fixing other content that needs a boost not removing a farm spot that people go to generate cash to enjoy the game!
Because in this particular case, it prevented people from opening a temple they may have wanted. Nice that people want to farm but not at other people’s expense.
This in no way kept people from opening up the temple.
If a group of people really wanted to open the temple all they would have to do is finish the event. Simple as that.
No hard feelings on either side.
To all the Karka in the place with style and grace.
I LOL’d
I realize that the timing looks suspicious, but the maintenance update had nothing to do with the event change.
Can we take this as an official statement that the event has indeed been changed?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exploit_%28online_gaming%29
Game mechanics
Taking advantage of the systems that make up the gameplay. A game mechanics exploit is not a bug—it is working as designed, but at the same time is not working as intended.http://www.thefreedictionary.com/exploit
Simply put, the players are taking advantage of a poor game design in a way that was not intended.
Thus it is an exploit. No ’if’s, ’and’s or ’but’s about it.
I really wish people would stop quoting the dictionary…anyways…
This was absolutely NOT an exploit.
If a quest specified you needed to kill 10 Undead….but you killed 15 instead, accidentally or on purpose…would that be considered an exploit? Would you report yourself for doing so?
You can just search the forums since there were numerous threads about it. Basically you do the Lyssa meta until you go up to the upper platform where you have the three locations secure to remove the barrier around her. The north area with the wp had these barricades you had to destroy to progress the event. If you didn’t destroy them, risen would keep respawning.
Thanks Ayrilana for explaining. I did not know about this. This does sound a little bit exploity. I am sure Anet does a lot of work in the background to reduce exploits or things like this. I don’t think it’s really necessary to be in the patch notes or getting upset with this.
is it an exploit to choose to not complete an event? I guess everyone can get banned.
It could only be an exploit if you were able to cause the event yourself to bug out…not completing it can not be considered an exploit.
This makes perfect sense seeing how they only want TP traders making gold…guess I going to be forced to CoF 1 zerk groups…yippie!
This is of course if they really did do this instead of just resetting the event which happens from time to time…doesn’t mean the event will not spawn again and be able to just stop at barricades again.
Ok so now lets say everyone has a Dusk from the scavanger hunt.
Now theres 1,000 people needing
A. Onyx Lodes.
B. 250 of each t6 Mat.Causing:
T6 To Skyrocket.=
Same price in the first place as if you were to buy dusk regularly and the mats regularly. gz on buying your 75s per Vial of Powerful blood when this is implemented.
Just another bad idea by players, pushed onto Anet
You really expect everyone who actually does the scavenger hunt to actually go through with the rest of the legendary process? I think not.
Any raise/drop in T6 mat and precursor prices will be short lived…I would expect those to balance out shortly after the scavenger hunt is released.
Also…I know Wal-Mart sells the $25/2000 Gem cards. And Wal-Mart is pretty much everywhere.
Eh…. PayPal isn’t exactly the most trustworthy company. More power to others, but a lot of people, myself included, aren’t keen on their terms of service that basically say they can freeze your funds for any reason at any time.
You don’t have to keep money in paypal. I just use it as a funnel to buy things using my credit card without having to give my CC information to every individual website. You can do the same with your bank information.
This^
I found the OPs statement to be very profound. Sad only deaf ears have responded for the most part.
I’ll go a step further.
Get out of your chair and experience the real world. if it is too much for you, don’t look to have the void filled by a game.
If you feel it is a spiritual thing you require. I will chat with you in private messages
I’m so tempted to go and edit Wikipedias definition of the word “irony” to accomodate your post.
Irony: People on the internet telling people on the internet to go outside.
+1 This is golden!
Ahhhh….Guild Coms, laurels and Factal Relics are all account bound so your argument for ascended gear holds no water. I have never played a game where WvW/PvP ranks of any sort where account bound.
And as someone said, running through content again should be half the fun.
Make a Paypal account?
Singularity….
they told pvp would not be involved in acquisition of PvE things…
I wonder if i can trust something anet says or even this time they will turn back on their words…..
As far as I know, people are not in WvW naked smacking each other with their hands…Weapons and Armor are not strictly PvE…sorry
I really hope that they make the scavenger difficult and long enough that players will still think that the 600g or so to buy some precursors is a suitable alternative.
i.e. includes:
-10,000 WvW kills
-90 laurels
-50 guild commendations
-dungeon master
-50 SPvP Tourneys+ a whole list of scavenger item requirements that can only be acquired through beating tough bosses, acquired at different times at the day, and through solo and team work.
Not going happen. My bet is thakittens going to be all about ranks/achievements and will require zero of the currency available.
I betting it will play out much like it did with getting the Fused Molten Gloves. Or the South Sun back pieces. Do X number of WvW achievements and receive on part of the precursor. Do X number of PvE achievements and receive another part and so on and so on.
Also betting on all new achievements so I would not bet on getting a instant precursor the day it launches.
Just my guesses.
So i’ve decided to get a lidless eye…now my question is does anyone know farming spots/good ways to get giant eye’s?
Apparently they are EXTREMELY rare to find which is kind of a downer because farming events over and over for the silver and then buying off the TP seems much less rewarding than actually getting the materials yourself. But if i have to resort to that…so be it…but yeah, anyone know where i can farm these?
As far as I know these CAN NOT be farmed. I could be wrong. I have been playing since launch and have probably only got….I want to say between 15-20 of these mostly from Large bags.
So today, I saw this
Since the launch of Guild Wars 2, NCSOFT and ArenaNet have released more than an expansion’s worth of content, regularly hosted special events like Halloween, Lost Shores and Wintersday, introduced players to the retro-goodness of the Super Adventure Box, and engaged players with the Living World philosophy, all the while continually updating and tweaking the game experience. There are record numbers of people playing Guild Wars 2 and the recent WvW and PvP updates are just the first drops in a shower of new updates.
Emphasis mine.
Which brings to mind a certain eight year running MMO that just released an expansion around the time GW2 came out, which had several new zones, a new class, a new race, dungeons, raid content, etc, etc. It seems far meatier in simple terms of content and overall development effort than what what GW2 has released, and not only that, but substantively and permanently added to the game world itself.
Then, I remembered this
Saying something like “expansions worth of content” means different things to everyone, and is nearly an impossible goal to meet expectation wise since everything expects something different, which is a big part of why marketing stepped away from that plan very quickly after asking us to use it when speaking to the press/fans.
Just to point this out, it seems like you are still hyping up your achievements post-launch beyond their scope. People do have a fairly commonly accepted idea of what is worthy of being an expansion, and if what you plan on releasing as a paid expansion is of the same scope as the updates we have gotten so far, I think it would be a poor consumer decision to purchase it.
The kitten game has been out less than a year! For the little amount of time it has been released we have been give more than enough content!
Dear Abby…. o.O oh wait….
How about killing innocent critters like rabbits and deer? And for what? Food?
No, achievements!
THAT is unethical.
Ahhh, if one could feed off pixels…what a wonderful world this would be… :-P
Id like to make ANET aware that there is 4-5 players in Cursed shores Bot Farming constantly. Since 6 am my time I have been watching their non human routine. They get stuck on the same ledges, run in a row. Farm stuff in their way but never something thats off the patch. They NEVER port, never dodge, never use skills. They kill everything in their way. They do the event and get out of there immediately even if everyone knows its the next event but if the event starts they come back asap. Its like the bot dont remember there is a possible event. They dont jump when stuck on areas of the ground. Guild Name is TSU- Underground Server
We tried to contact them to see if any response and nothing
Do something this is freaken unfair!
And you are probably going to get infracted or banned for posting their names. I would delete that picture if I was you.
First off let me say I really like all the Legendary weapons that are in game now…they are awesome and I will soon have mine.
But is seems like they went a little to “good guy” on most of them.
I think all those “good guy” legendary weapons need a “bad guy” counterpart.
Lets say instead of ponies shooting out of a bow we get fire breathing stallions!
Instead of being surrounded by a rainbow we get surround by crows and as we walk leave behind a trail of black feathers!
And so on…post your ideas!
P.S. Does ANet have plans to do such a thing as I have suggested?
So much hate over not wanting easy mode? Perhaps it’s all due to a misunderstanding? I’ll try to simplify my position:
1) This game is made so that every player is able to craft their own Legendary weapon, with invested time.
2) Every player who puts in said time deserves to have their Legendary weapon.
3) Barriers are in place to prevent short-cutting this process. However, with the nature of RNG, there are some who’ll get the lucky draw.
4) Purchasing a Legendary requires a legendary amount of Gold, so buying one outright only slightly cheapens the process. Now then. It’s one thing to have a lot of players have the same Legendary due investing time and resources. It’s another thing if you have a lot of the same Legendaries around due to “easy mode”. Getting a Precursor or farming for tons of Lodestones is one of the main barriers to certain Legendaries. The barrier helps to keep these weapons’ rarity levels high. In my opinion, increased drop rates and/or free Precursors is similar to wanting the “easy mode” button. That cheapens the Legendary weapon far more than being able to buy/sell them on the TP.
You got yours with “easy mode”. If the game puts in a “hard mode”, would you delete it and redo? After all, that means the one you have is cheapened.
No? Somehow I thought not. ^^
By the way, I wouldn’t say that you are attracting hate, I would say its a lot closer to contempt. Someone who comes out and says, “I got mine now I want it harder for everyone else because I want to be special”, well I don’t hate that person. But I certainly don’t feel any respect.
THIS! Why is this so hard for the OP to get? Well we know why…but kitten
They will probably not go the way of just letting you buy the skins outright. Sure they could make more money in the short term. But lets say they let you buy the SAB skins from the gem store…you would be less likely to buy the skins for the SouthSun event.
Now, buy offering them only as a RNG item in chests/creates they keep you spending money on the hopes of getting one. Sure it’s cheap exploitation of human nature(what company doesn’t)…but until all those people who keep buying keys/creates stop doing so…this will not change.
Even if all the people complaining that there is no “Hard Content” would get actual “Hard Content”, this is how it would go….
Group/raid leader: “Ok, so what we are going to do here is run past all the mobs til we got the boss”…“Kill Boss”
If they made it so mobs would not lose aggro and follow you to the ends of earth in dungeons..all of them would be more challenging as they are now. ANet needs to force dungeon runners to take down all trash mobs, maybe then I could get into running dungeons.
Also, they could make it so you couldn’t drop what is supposed to be one of the hardest dungeon bosses in under 1m or soloable…that would help also lol.
(edited by Amun Ra.6435)
One handed Hand-to-hand combat gloves or iron knuckles would be pretty cool. Could go with a new class or thief.
New class….Brawler
1. Guardians: 2H – Pole arm/Helberd/LANCE, 1H – Javalin(Ranged)
2. Warriors: 2H – Great Axe, 1H – Ball & Chain
3. Necromancer: 2H – Scythe(Melee), 1H – Chain(Allows a chained undead pet(human) to be summoned at all times: #1 – summon, #2-3 Melee skills?)
4. Engineer: 2H Bazooka, 1H – Tether(Allows you to pull enemy or be pulled to them)
5. Thief: 2H – Grapple Hook rifle, 1H – Hand spikes
6…..
I’d give my eye teeth for a fused GS…
I so want eye teeth! Where do I get those!
:-P JK
Yeah, it is to easy to get sucked into the gamble of the BL chests. I bought gems, bought 10 keys and used like 5 others I had stored. Got nothing but oh well.
But they do seem to be to rare…just going by observation…they seem to be as rare as fractal skins…thats a bit to much imo. Something bought should have a much great drop rate.
I never took the time to read through this whole thread til now. I thought is was a general “Legendary weapons should be harder to get” kinda thing.
But having read it through…I know have zero respect for anything OP has to say(not that it matters to OP lol).
I got mine now it should be harder to get for everyone else…..absolute selfishness.
What makes you more special then anyone else with those weapons you love so much?
If you are talking about cultural armor, I believe they made it so you can not do this.
I personally bought it as a novelty item…I like the animation and I help out the developers of a game that I really enjoy with the gems that I bought. WIN/WIN imho.
You should be perfectly fine with zero AR at lvl 10
Recently people have made the false claim that GW2 is casual. This is a post to show just how wrong they are about that. My purpose for this is not only to inform the players of this game what casual means, it’s also to give the devs some pointers on what makes a game casual so that they might in the future consider adding these things to improve the game.
- fishing – WoW/torchlight II – complete with nets, spears, poles, chairs, umbrellas, with the ability to fish up valuable vendorfish, gear, hard to find crafting materials (lodestones is an idea ahem cough), minipets, and mounts (if this game had mounts), crafting recipes in all crafts (they even had oils for engineering/alchemy not just cooking).
- hunting games – The Hunter MMO – in other mmo’s it might be that you need to capture or kill an animal for a hunting contest which would bring prizes and gear. A real hunting contest for the Norn perhaps?
- farming – farmville/lotro – self explanatory. Might bring in the chance to find the materials usually difficult to get to like vanilla beans.
- lotteries – RIFT/LOTRO – LOTRO had a daily lottery to get prizes and currency from similar to the dungeon badges, laurels, and karma we see in GW2. Rift had an hourly or bihourly scratchoff which allowed for the winning of rare crafting materials and currencies too (altho it was in a mobile app that they still have to this day).
- housing – LOTRO/RIFT – Rift is hands down the best example of housing I can think of. The decorations and ability to customize are the best I’ve seen anywhere, however they both had the ability to pickup items from the experiences of the players (quests) where they’ve been what they were doing, and who they’ve defeated to place in the homes of the players.
- collecting artifacts – RIFT/AoC – filled with lore that can combine to make items or for prizes. Items were usually end game gear or special items that created rare materials or were valuable to be sold for gold.
- collecting mini pets – WoW – minipets has always been fun in any game but WoW to me had the best ways of doing such, buying them from dungeon only vendors, finding them in rare exotic places. They have a good start in this game, I’m just not seeing the taming of level 1 critters tho.
- taming/care and feeding of pet companions – WoW/ AoC – In AoC and WoW they had certain animals that were babies when tamed and had special quests to help them grow up turning them into mounts. (now I know they don’t want to add mounts but what if this were used for Rangers instead of the instatame system it would be miles more fun). There was also an unspoken competition amongst hunters in WoW where players sought out and tamed rare pets with rare pet skins. That was the fun part of being a hunter in WoW! For a time there were pet buff foods that cooks could make to help give pets boons during combat, I miss pet food.
- gambling – Star Trek Online – Dabo is a great time waster, and you can buy things with the gold pressed latinum you get from gambling on the table in Quark’s.
Things that are casual but that I didn’t participate in:
- mini pet battles – WoW – never really played this since Cata but it looks like pokemon.
- guild halls – Age of Conan – I was in guilds who had them but never made things or gathered resources to make the guild halls because they already had it and didn’t ask anything of me. Occasionally we had to defend the keeps from enemy guilds in a WvW style setting.
These are things that make a game casual friendly, it’s not simply the aspect of being able to put down a game and come back without having to regrind gear to continue playing where you left off, it’s the activities the fill the spaces between playing PVE PVP WVW or major evens like in the living story or meta boss fights.
Feel free to add anything I missed.
Nothing in this list can be defined as “casual” content. I played LoTRO for years, was part of the Hardcore raid team. Belonged to one of the biggest…if not the biggest guilds on the server and everyone, from the Hardcore raiders to the casual alters/crafters/explores enjoyed all of those activities.
Seems like the problem most people are having is having that content labeled as “casual”. I don’t think that is the case…like someone else noted…its more like extracurricular activities.
You said it yourself…“things to do between PvE, PvP, WvW etc…”
This is very casual friendly…new players can lvl to 80, buy exotics/ascended items with the gold/laurels they have earned and be on par with everyone else in the game…might not be as shinny, but equal in every way.
I would have to agree…would love to see those added to the game sometime in the near future. Especially Guild/Personal Houses.
No. Lodestones are too easy to get. They need to make them much more rare, so Legendary weapons are harder to craft.
They are only easy to get for someone who can make a bajillion gold a day on the TP or no-lifers who grind for a bajillion hours a day…
For the majority of people who can’t/don’t want to do that…they are hard enough to craft…
The Trading Post doesn’t even have enough Lodestones to buy to make certain weapons
You know you can only see the first 20 orders in the trading post right? I am sure there is more than enough for you to buy if you have the gold…
Correct me if I am wrong please, but I am pretty sure this has been fixed.
As the dungeon starter, if you disconnect then your group will remain in the dungeon as long as they keep your disconnected character in the party. What kicked them out of the dungeon was them removing you from the party. I’ve had this happen before when I didn’t realise the disconnected person that I was kicking from group was in fact the dungeon starter.
Like i say I could be wrong but I’m a little sure about it.
This has not been fixed. I was in Arah some night last week and after a rough run we beat Lupi and the dungeon leader left right after to do a “Bounty” and we were all kicked andr received no credit. So yeah, I hope they fix this soon.
I actually would like to see this implemented. I don’t see why this would cause any balance issues.
umm, because 100blades?
So everyone plays a warrior?
DR does not effect you daily chest or normal chest…you probably just did the dragon twice within the same reset period.
Remember…you can only do the Dragon event once a day/per account. It used to be per character, now its account bound.
(edited by Amun Ra.6435)
You guys do not see the problem here, just blame me for my mistake…
Was this mistake not there, i would not have bought it right?Come on guys, none of you find this a little bit disturbing ?
Not the least disturbing. You should have looked more carefully and not blindly clicked purchase. When I purchase anything from the Gem Store I look at the item/description/price for a few minutes before I click anything.
I just hate how they keep punishing people for playing how they want to play. Nerfing drop rate with DR and adding way more powerful mobs that do not drop ANYTHING. All of which ends driving people away, which leads to less people doing these events, which leads to less mobs spawning, which leads to less loot.
Yet…one could trade on the TP 24/7 and receive zero penalty(aside from the tax, which everyone gets, not just TP traders) and can swim in gold.
Same thing with dungeon paths like CoF p1, which shouldn’t farming events, in cursed shore for example, pay out as much as CoF p1?
(edited by Amun Ra.6435)
So…we farmers have been hit with a lot of nerfs and punished for what we like to do. Why hasn’t DR been applied to TP trading yet?
