You must not play a thief…Thieves do not trade burst for survivability…they just keep stealthing away…that is what is broken with thieves, they need a longer CD

hahahahaha…with the stealth debuff at 4seconds and stealth not lasting very long in the first place (besides shadow refuge, but you can easily still hit thieves in SR), there’s really no need for a longer CD. If they can get away with that short amount of stealth and you couldn’t kill them, they kinda deserve to get away. They are supposed to be the mobile/stealth class of the game.

So you are saying fights need to last less then 4s?

Pssst it costs initiative…. Maybe at least read up on the classes you’re complaining about?

Did you play them all in PVP? It’s not hard to just give them a test drive as you get a fully functional character right from the start. Go give all the classes a shot and then make an informed judgement on balance between them.

i have 1 of each class except guardian but i did play guardian to about level 50 before deleting him. and im not saying Thief is the only unbalanced class im saying theres many unbalanced classes/builds wich are creating bad habits of relying on classes or builds rather than actual skill , the skill i know it costs initiative but theres also several traits and even a sigil to boost initiative gain.

Well then please proceed to elaborate on which skills need balancing and why and what defines ‘skill’. Calling entire professions OP isn’t helping the discussion. I think all professions have their strengths, but certainly their weaknesses too. Thief has good burst, but little else. Besides, Mesmers can easily burst for the same amount.

Stealth is a strong defense mechanism, but it doesn’t make you invulnerable (for AoE for example). Other professions have strong defenses too, but rely on other mechanisms. Guardians have block and invulnerability and Elementalists have shields, heals, control and mobility.

Sometimes classes are very strong in one aspect (like burst) but they pay a heavy price for it. Thieves trade survivability for burst, bunker Guardians trade damage output for survivability, etc. Complaining about one aspect without looking at the trade off isn’t the way to go. In the case of thieves, once you deal with their initial burst you have a pretty good chance to win the fight.

Finally, most PVP games take a rock – paper – scissors approach; burst is most effectively countered by bunkers and the other way around. Burst versus burst isn’t balanced nor does it have to be. Same for bunker versus bunker; that’s just plain boring. However, builds don’t necessarily have to be a compromise between burst and bunker; it can also be balanced across players.

I do agree though that some professions could use more viable builds. Thief indeed is somewhat lacking in that regard.

You must not play a thief…Thieves do not trade burst for survivability…they just keep stealthing away…that is what is broken with thieves, they need a longer CD

stealth is fine. play a thief for more than a couple minutes in ‘PvE’ and you would understand it.

Stealth is fine…but repeatedly being able to stealth and high burst damage is not a balanced combo.

I agree that stealth doesn’t provide skill based game play. However; keep in mind the audience that you’re trying to convey this discussion to. They generally don’t like to think.

Why think when you can just spam buttons on your keyboard for easy kills?

I will try to find a link but have you seen that youtube video of this dude and his thief in spvp? He is only using 1 dagger and one button and he is going around just walking up to people killing everyone he comes across. Granted this was in the beginning of Gw2, still funny.

Stealth was already nerfed. This was due to an unbalanced “perma-stealth” Thief troll build. Now with that said, let’s breakdown your complaints one by one:

• Time to analyze your enemy
This is done before a Thief or Mes goes into stealth. If the target is squishy, you attack. If it’s a Guardian, you run away. Simple.

• Cooldown reduction
This was the nerf. No more perma-stealth trolling.

• Movement closing
Part of the purpose of being stealthed. You can run away or move in for a hit. Nothing wrong here.

• First strike advantage
Part of the purpose of being stealthed. You can run away or move in for a hit. Nothing wrong here.

• Untargetability
Part of the purpose of being stealthed. You can run away or move in for a hit. Nothing wrong here.

• Scouting undetected
Part of the purpose of being stealthed. You can run away or move in for a hit. Nothing wrong here.

Summary – Stealth is a part of the game. If you’re unable to come up with effective strategies to counter it, it doesn’t mean it’s unbalanced or broken. It means you need to get better. There are many ways to counter a Thief or Mes, but being that I play both, I won’t discuss them (for fear of people learning how to kill me).

Well I think you pretty much proved the OP right. That is what is broken…they have perma stealth. Thief in this game has the most broken stealth in any game I have seen… hit stelath, hit stealth, hit stealth, hit stealth and hit stealth. Stealth should be used at you said…but not in a rinse and repeat fashion. If you are using stealth to run away it should not be spamable.

Waiting for a Thief to make a mistake is NOT a way to kill them.

I’m so sick of people who are whiny about CoF farming groups wanting zerkers only.

Yaknow what? I have 5 toons. Know what else? One of them is a full zerker mesmer.

Know what I do with that toon? I do CoF speed runs.

Know what percentage of my game time I spend doing that? Less than 5%.

Get over it, really. The people complaining about the zerkers are more elitist than they are.

If you have a problem with this exclusivity…roll your own zerker and do it yourself. It’s that simple.

If they nerf CoF, these crews are just going to find something else to speed run…and they’ll look for zerkers there as well.

I suppose calling zerker warriors and mesmers cu** really makes you so much better than them.

No one here is whinny man…calm down…we all just laughing at at a post in GW2LFG lol

The whole game is a material grind….you can buy legendaries off the dam auction house kitten .. there’s no quest or anything set to doing this grind or any grind…there is no attempt to even mask the grind in this game…

They could have at least put some effort into that.

This is nothing like what they hyped it up to be in all their post release videos especially the manifesto….saying the didn’t want us to have to grind because nobody likes grinding…

You still don’t HAVE to grind… Legendary weapons offer no advantage over other players. They offer no stat advantage over exotic weapons. So having one is simply a choice to have a shinny thing. Nothing more.

The last Anet said about the scavenger hunt was that they would not make any official response about it. But they also pretty much said that it was just an idea and were not currently building or even designing it. So who knows.

But there is really no painless way to get it, not that I can see anyways. Do you have Onyx cores or lodestones?

Grind cursed shore: Lets you make gold while getting T5/T6 mats/Karma(Shards/Orrian boxes to possibly get Lodestones and more gold)/Get rare drops for ectos. Honestly if you are not a TP player and don’t mind repeating the same thing over and over…cursed shore is the way to go I think.

800 for $10 = 0% bonus
1600 for $20 = 5% bonus
2800 for $35 = 10% bonus
4000 for $50 = 15% bonus
8000 for $100 = 20% bonus

This is common place in online games with purchased in game currency.

Anet should be giving something back (extra) to those that support the game on a higher level. With the higher option, we are doing nothing but saving Anet the transaction fees of multiple lower denomination purchases.

Crying about hosing players that can’t (or won’t) pay for the large purchase is baloney. What difference does it make to you, if player xxxxxx has an extra set of bunny ears or a few more character slots?

…..that’s right. None.

I was a little surprised Anet didn’t do this was well when I first purchased some gems and honestly one of the main reasons I don’t buy more gems then I do right now.

I am married, work full time and only play about 10-12 hours a week. I finish my daily in about 45m or less and always finish my monthly, sure it may take the whole month sometimes. I just don’t see where the hate is coming from.

Are you frustrated that you can’t finish these sooner?

Aside from legendaries and and certain skins. There really isn’t much grind to this game. The montly/daily seem to be very casual friendly to me.

I think the main question (for me anyway) is do you enjoy doing them?

I’m also interested in how long someone plays before they “just happen.” A hour, two, four? A lot of people have much more time than I do.

I usually do my daily in about the same amount of time, it’s not difficult, but it’s not fun.

No, they are not always fun, but sometimes they will just happen just playing the game, depending on which tasks are up for that day. Sometimes not, you will have to seek them out.

I see it as “Well, I want these new Ascended pieces, its worth 30-45m of my playtime to finish them move on so sometime else I enjoy more”

But I will say I am really grateful for them. As someone who is in a very small guild(haven’t done one guild mission yet) and doesn’t do fractals this is an easy way to get those items I want.

The PvP daily achievement requirements has been excessively increased (and way out of the way to complete outside of light, normal play). If anything, the PvE daily should’ve been lessened or more streamlined/generalized (say, 30 daily instead of 40 kills in Kryta and Ascalon and a bunch of ambient kills).

I’m very concerned that the development team is implementing ways to make this game more of a grind or adding more time commitment components with every major patch, contrary to the original philosophy of this company prior to the game’s massive success.

Perhaps the time commitment issue doesn’t matter for some of the younger crowd or those with a very flexible schedule. However, I already have a boss and a domestic partner taking my time away from my free time. I really don’t need my (favorite?) gaming company to micromanage my life, either.

There’s so much to do in this game and I like to play both PvE and PvP, despite my busy life. Why not allow me to play what I want, when I want to?

This should stay a fun game, not become stressful, boring grind!

How do you get rich?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Amun Ra.6435

Amun Ra.6435

Hi,

I think it’s nearly impossible to get rich in GW2. I do a lot of events, guild missions, yet i am so poor. Can you make some solid cash without farming 24/7?

All depends what you think is “rich”. I am broke at the moment (just bought my dusk) and I am a casual/hardcore. I can only play 10-14 hours a week and the occasional weekend when my wife goes off to visit her parents lol but farm pretty hardcore when i do play. I farm events in Orr and hit 2-3 world events (Dragons/Temples/World bosses:Fire Elemental/Maw) I have been playing since launch and just barley made enough to buy my precursor(hope that doesn’t come back to bite me in the kitten i.e. scavenger hunt lol)

On a bad day I make about 1g an hour. On a good day I make about 2-3g an hour. Keep in mind I am also saving most of my T6 mats and ectos for my Legendary weapon. I salvage everything that is metal and wood and vendor everything else.

If you don’t want a legendary weapon and sell everything you get I could see you making about 5-6 gold an hour. I wouldn’t put to much into those saying 10g an hour, but than again maybe I am doing it wrong.

Also, nobody believes you when you say you love sitting in the same spot doing the same thing all day. Sorry…

They didn’t do this out of spite, or just to punish bots…

1. It is a ‘catch-all’ for problems with the game when people find ways to farm loot more efficiently than others, which is bound to happen in a game this size. It prevents any one exploit from being exploited too much.

2. Also despite your claim you love doing this…they know that players will have more fun and play longer if they do a variety of things. But, if you give them extra carrots they will do the same thing over and over…. and declare the game boring (even if it is unfairly!). Thus, DR short circuits this issue as well by taking away the extra carrots….

As a matter of fact I do love farming, despite you telling me I don’t…wow….

Any official reply to this would shock the precursor market. All I can say is we’re watching.

On a side note, I’m writing to Anet to try and convince them to not implement the Scavenger Hunt. Precursors and Legendary weapons should be rare, and making it too easy to get would take away from the prestige of these items.

So market flippers should be the only ones with an “easy” route to a legendary?

I doubt these SAB skins will get anywhere near where the Ghastly skins got simply because I think it is harder to make an outfit to match these skins where as with Ghastly skins where pretty easy to match up to armor. It seems to me that the general public liked the Halloween stuff more than these so there will be less people likely to spend the kind of money they were will to spend for the Halloween stuff.

The only thing I would say you NEED is a decent set of exotic armor and weapons. So yes, if you want dungeon armor you obviously NEED to do dungeons, you could also just buy a set of crafted exotics or grind karma and get a set of Karma armor.

Any with Berserker stats is all the rage with Warriors.

But if you do decide you NEED a legendary…be prepared to GRIND GRIND GRIND…or put a lot of Real Life cash.

I noticed these Eles do have more DPS and away more ways to get away and are every bit as tanky. We need a skill much like the Templar’s in Aion that has a speed buff that ignores combat and skill slows to allow us to close the gap.

That must be a new skill never heard of that skill in aion for Temp unless your talking about godstone almost same thing in GW2 Guardians only way to slow is chill when weapon swap or on crit works for me

Well GW2 speed buff is different than the Aion speed buff I am talking about. In GW2 once you are in combat the speed buff is not as fast as the buff is when you are not in combat.

In Aion, its just a regular skill, not a Godstone buff, once you activate it you get a burst of speed something like +50% for a short period of time, of course you have to use other stability skills with it to ignore slows and such. This is needed for Guards in GW2 to help us close the gap.

I absolutely hate the multi guild system in this game. I honestly don’t know what purpose it serves.

What ever happened to guild loyalty?

It lets people be a part of multiple communities and groups of friends – it may not serve a purpose to you, but it does to me and many others. In GW2, I can actually be in a guild with different groups of friends, instead of leaving all but one group out in the cold. This is a huge deal for me, as I enjoy both being in a small tight-knit guild with my RL friends while also having a larger guild to do events and WvW with – and my big guild doesn’t seem to mind that I rep my small guild when I’m playing with them.

Whether the implementation is good or not is another matter, but there’s pretty clear reasons why the idea of multiple guilds serves a purpose.

Personally I find ‘guild loyalty’ a bit of a silly concept. There’s no reason a person can’t enjoy time with multiple communities, and since this is a game, not a job, I don’t see why someone should be forced to only put in time with a single community if they don’t want to be. Requiring loyalty to the guild and only the guild is a bit too serious for what amounts to a hobby for most people.

Again – I’m fine with guilds that require sole membership, it’s their choice as long as they’re upfront about it. But for me, the multi-guild system (as an idea) is great – though I do agree the implementation could be improved.

I was with you till you found loyalty a silly concept.

Not loyalty as a whole – perhaps I was not clear. I meant the idea of ‘guild loyalty’ that precludes spending time with other groups on occasion.

I’ll edit my post to be more clear – but in short, I mean that when people consider ‘guild loyalty’ never spending time with other guilds, and devoting all of one’s time to that one guild alone, it’s a silly concept.

People should still contribute to their guild and not leech off of them, but by the same token someone is not ‘disloyal’ if they split time between guilds.

There is nothing keeping you from hanging out with your “other” friends while representing one guild…if your other friends won’t be your friends because you won’t rep their guild…well hell, I would choose guild loyalty anytime.

To be honest, one of the most epic moments I have ever had in MMO’s is when guilds/kins/legions came together and tackled content or to just have fun. There is nothing wrong with keeping one tag and hanging out with people with other tags.

1. Didnt pull slave driver into the wall.
2. Didnt time warp fast enough.
3. Didn’t cast feedback fast enough.

And for that you get kicked? OMG I am so thankful for being in my guild then. I’d have been kicked a hundred times over by such people. I ran several CoF p1 farms recently. We never really did #1, is it really THAT necessary? As for the other 2 points, well, I get that some people want to do fast runs and all but I feel like that just crosses the line. It’s not like the OP didn’t do it at all.

The person that told me all this said we would have saved “about 20 secs” had I done everything perfectly.

I find it really funny that they kick the only person playing the class that actually takes some skill in these CoF1 speed runs. Kitten them. Anyone raging for a mere 20s is totally obsessed and should be avoided at all costs.

Off topic but i don’t think I have ever played a game with dungeons so easy to exploit, except maybe Aion lol. They really need to add mechanics that actually make you complete the dungeon and require real skill to finish.

Precursor prices manipulated badly

“Manipulate” is such a vague term. What do you think is happening exactly? And why is it “manipulated badly?” Because you think it’s happening very frequently?

From your OP, I’m assuming you mean people are buying up all the sell listings and re-pricing them? It’s been discussed how incredibly difficult it is to profit from it due to 1. the 15% tax and 2. significant volume of precursor transactions.

I wouldn’t say it would be extremely hard…but a 10, 20 or even 40 gold profit can easily be made flipping, lets say, Dusk and probably any other of the more popular precursors. Yeah it would be a risk and waiting game.

Just have to think…would that 10-40 gold profit be worth the time invested for someone with the gold to flip a precursor in the first place?

If you just need 100g to finish your Twilight why bother with the forge? Seems like a waste to me. Craft the great swords and sell or salvage for ectos, then sell the ectos. Will make 100g go by a lot faster.

Well one could say you do not “NEED” to be bothered by what other people complain about, but here you are…should we assume you “WANT” to be bothered by it?
