Wait…AP from GW1 count towards AP totals in GW2? Really?

I can see why they gave GW1 players HoM….but being granted AP in GW2 is just ridiculous! Wow….

If there were no leaderboards this wouldn’t matter. Anet has said way before GW2 even launched that GW1 players would be rewarded in GW2. Not sure why that outrages you or makes you upset when this was something they said before we even saw that the Mesmer was a returning class to the game.

Like I said , I have no problem with GW1 players getting HoM…but it is wrong that achievement points themselves count towards the totals in GW2…is that to hard to understand?

HoM is not enough of a reward?

I also never mentioned the learder boards in my post so don’t know why you felt inclined to include it in your response. But since you brought it up…it would matter even without the leader boards because GW1 players are getting an unfair advance to GW2 items outside of HoM (which apparently was the reward to GW1 players).

Thanks for your kind suggestions guys. I’m not even trying to farm CoF, normal dungeons with PUGS don’t want rangers anymore (or any other class). When did GW2 get so elitist?

That’s what we get with no “Holy Trinity”…get the “Holy Duo” instead! But really…people who want only warriors/mesmers are not skilled and just want to complete instances as fast as possible.

But like the above have said…there are plenty of people who will group with any class…including those who play warriors/memsers.

….A nerf to feedback is a kick in the gut to people who are good at the game, that’s about it.

Playing a class with a certain skill does not make you good…so I don’t see how skilled players would be “kicked in the gut”…

Not everyone that plays Mesmer can just go in and kill Lupicus in under a minute. You have to understand the game very well.

Sure, understanding a game mechanic is key….but you can’t say that an “end game” boss should be able to be beat in under one minute…even with the most optimal group make up…it just makes no sense.

Killing a boss in under a minute should not be an achievement anyone should want…but that’s just me…but I guess that’s what you get when you have no “Holy Trinity”

Pretty much all boss fights aside from a few in Fractals can be killed in under a minute. It’s just sort of a thing in Guild Wars 2. Even average pug groups can kill bosses in 1-2 minutes. Some people enjoy killing things as quickly as possible, which falls under the part about “play the game the way you want to play it.” And I’m not really sure what doesn’t make sense about it. It’s just Feedback and Warriors.

Fair enough…I guess that’s why I have not really got into dungeons here in GW2, though I would like to. Seems that trash mobs can wipe you in an instant…then you get to the boss and bam…done in under a minute…to me that makes no sense. Anet could get a few pointers from LoTRO…that game had some of the best boss fights/mechanics I have ever seen. Again…that’s just me.

Don’t even get me started with the “play the game the way you want to play it”…Anet has kitten all over that statement.

I found MF much more enjoyable. Talking strictly boss fights…because regardless of diversity, trash mobs were exactly that…trash mobs…but I would have to say the trash mobs in MF were more of a challenge.

Only did AR once…two of my party members just could not stay alive in the final boss fight…we called it without finishing it…but I never felt the need to go back, it was just not that appealing to me…though I would gladly go back to MF.

Like everyone said…they nerf just about EVERY farm spot for T6 mats.

Onyx lodestones are pretty cheap, will get cheaper because Anet said they plan on making new ways of getting lodestones in general…no official time frame though.

Anet also said they plan on revamping Orr (T6 farm) and loot rewards in general, but gave no official time frame.

CoF (No RNG/Risk involved) or playing the TP (Risk involved/Higher payout if done right) are the best ways of getting money.

I have not bite the bullet on CoF yet…trying to hold out…so boring….but you may want to do that til the changes above have come.

I am also going for Twilight for my Guardian, stopping playing really because of what they did to Orr and farming in general. All I need is about 250-300 T6 mats and BoH. Sure I could just farm CoF for a little while and buy the mats but I really want to earn my Legendary playing the way I want to.

The rate at which “Glitches” are found in this game also should ring some bells of “insider” info. I mean, its seems the these are found the minute a patch is released. The cakes are a way of selling power via gems. The cakes are overpowered. The cheapest way to get the cakes is to have the recipe and craft them. Having the recipe also provides the exclusive ability to become a manufacturer and seller of those cakes and earn profit.

It’s not quite the direct selling of an exclusive stat boost, but it’s a little too close to that for comfort.

Another step towards the slippery slope is providing a level up in BLCs. Now you can literally buy yourself a near instant level 80 character if you buy enough BLCs. The rarity of the level up will be an important factor in judging how big a deal this will be. Players can already speed level to by buying gems, trading for gold and leveling all the crafting professions to 400, but it still takes several hours to manage all the crafting. These level up tickets just require a load of money and the ability to double click.

You are not guaranteed a tome in the BLC’s. Its all RNG, same as anything other boost. Anet has also made sure this would will not be an issue as every new temp dungeon/Map/WvW/PvP auto lvl you to 80. You are also down lvl’d according to which map you are on.

So I don’t see the issue with the tomes in the BLC’s.

I know of a guild which repeatedly gets 3 pugs off gw2lfg, go through fotm 48, kick at maw for guildies and they rotate this so they can reduce time spent in fotm by half. 1st thing is people lose their chat logs(which is completely stupid..) but even if they know names and report, nothing’s going to happen and I see them on every day because anet doesn’t care about reports.

Why does everybody think that when people say that they want rewards, they automatically mean items? A rewarding experience would be great, too. Something that isn’t “push f here and there” and is actually compelling? That would be a reward, too. New content that’s actually enjoyable to play, and is something that players want to do because it’s enjoyable not because it’s the newest thing on the list of achievements and there’s a carrot at the end. Carrot at the end should be a bonus.

Perhaps because there are a lot of rewarding experiences in the game. I seldom see people mention the fantastic views in the Shiverpeaks zones, the stark beauty of Ascalon, the conversations with and between NPCs, the hidden rooms and challenging jumping puzzles…

What do I see? Champions should drop better loot. High-level crafting mats don’t drop often enough. More rares/exotics. Why won’t a precursor to drop so they don’t have to buy it. On and on.

The reason I play is in the first paragraph. The complaints I see are the second, it’s not an assumption, it’s an observation.

There is no right and wrong here. You said it yourself…Your reward is the experience. Because someone else desires a different reward does not make them wrong.

I think Anet did a pretty good job of balancing the two at first. Grinders/Farmers had a clear path to their reward of choice…either shinnys or accumulation of wealth. Of course the ones wanting the “experience” still have that.

Grinders/Farmers are complaining because they have had their clear path to their reward virtually destroyed. With the general population coming to the conclusion that Anet has done so to force people to buy gems.

What if Anet decided to open whole new worlds of great wonder, far more beautiful than anything else they have created…only catch is that you have grind hundreds of mobs in Orr to gain access to it?

You say the players are the problem…well, maybe MMO’s are not for you, because well…they are generally played by…well…players. Players of different mindsets no less.

Yeah, its really sad what they did to Orr. Yes, I loved farming events there. I did it because I liked it and it was a clear path to my legendary. But you know what? I could not do it all day long like others could…meaning I would supplement my farming with buying gems for gold to speed up the process. Since they have destroyed Orr guess how much I have spent in the gem store…ZERO.

Now I spend my money in league of legends of all things.

I would gladly spend my money on gems again if I could also have a clear path of farming T6 mats myself. I am still VERY close to finishing my legendary but if I can play the way I want and work towards my legendary the way I chose…Anet/NCSoft will not receive my time or my money.

Amun Ra.6435

Conditions aren’t meant to be bursty and they’re not, but if you are able to apply many, yes they are meant to get people down, good players spec for cleanse and will CC us as much as they can because that’s our weakness.

We ARE the condition class, if our conditions aren’t feared by other classes, then why have necros in the game. Before this patch other players hardly ever feared going up against a necro, they were more scared of thieves and mesmers. Just wait till people actually learn to play against a necro.

No one is in the position to call anything, especially 1 day after the patch, when 1 class receives this many changes it affects more than just that class.

The necro playstyle didn’t get completely revamped, it’s still 95% of what it was pre-patch, but necros have become too strong. 1v1 is a joke at this point with necros, no class stands a chance against a necro that remotely knows what they’re doing, let alone if they spec for the fears. Necro is definitely the strongest condition class, but it’s nearly at a gamebreaking level with how strong they’ve become, condition builds are supposed to be a war of attrition, not a 4 sec fear chain followed by having every damaging condition in the game outside of confusion stacked on you at once and blowing you up with ease. Not all players spec for condi clearing either, and even the ones that do can’t keep up with the constant applying of those conditions while they’re constantly being feared. The biggest problem is that they’re always applying multiple conditions, so its near impossible to keep up with the cleansing AND get in some damage on all but a few builds in the game. Necros should be better than they were but they just went too far with the buffs. Burning for necro should have never been implemented, and I would even go as far as to say that DS#5 should either be nerfed a little or turned into a single target ability.

Wow, guess it never occurred to burst classes they might actually have to sacrifice some burst use condition removal skills/food/runes.

Different builds.

Let me repeat that.

Different builds.

Different builds.

The thing that everyone complaining always forgets about.

Mesmers and Thieves aren’t inherently better duelist classes. They do have, however, better duelist builds. There’s nothing that’s implying that Mesmers and Thieves will get Torment for their strongest builds – if anything, it’ll just open up new possibilities for condition builds, which Mesmers and Thieves are weak at. Also, both Mesmers and Thieves lack build diversity, and are pretty much stuck on one or two builds, so new food for conditions makes sense.

You don’t know how it will be implemented.

Let me repeat that.

You don’t know how it will be implemented.

You don’t know how it will be implemented!

I will say this again. Given Anet past history on “balance” everyone who doesn’t play a thief or mesmer has every right to be concerned about this.

Rumor (via “leaked patch notes”) is torment is attached to a venom skill that most thieves, including condition thieves, will never use. Feel better?

Well its all rumor and there is no way to tell if the leaked patch notes are real or not, even if they are real there is no way of telling how outdated they are. They also said they are going to revamp trait lines which still leaves open the possibility that torment will be added to a line that makes thieves even more op.

The plain fact is that thieves have no need for this…no logic went into the decision to give this to thieves. Just the other night I was doing WvW map completion solo(on my Guard), I almost ran into a group of three enemies, one of which was a thief. Now I popped my speed buff while I still had a good gap between me and the enemies…the thief caught up to me in 2 secs by spamming what ever skill the makes you freaking thieves flip like a monkey…since he caught up to me I said well might as well try and was killed by the three…stuff happens…but my speed buff is useless against thieves?

Now…knowing that…why does it make sense to give thieves torment?

Torment to a condition damage Mesmer is a good addition since they have no speed enhancing abilities. An enemy can easily run away from them in WvW.

Highly unlikely. The only meaningful nerf was to their burst which insta downed, no self respecting thief can say that wasn’t broken.

A few months ago, anet announced that they would add more means to counter boons, aka, “boon-hate”.

The community exploded and cried that the end of the world was coming. People raged how bad of a thing that was, and claimed that using boons would suddenly be a bad thing.

When that update came out, warrior’s boon hate was meh, and thieves’ boon hate was necessary to counter guardian’s bunkers. That was it. It did not ruin the game. The world did not get destroyed.

Now, this new Torment condition is coming, and once again, people are crying for the apocalypse, and how this condition is going to break this game.

To be honest, and that also depends on the actual numbers, but immobilize and KD seem to be stronger anti-movement effects than this Torment. How is torment going to destroy this game’s combat, for punishing movement, if there are other effects that completely nullify movement? Immobilize and KD make you eat entire, HUGE bursts if you do not have a stun breaker. The new torment will give you a choice between moving or not – you can decide to avoid a burst, or if there’s none, decide not to move and take less damage.

I’m not sure how strong it’s going to be, but it seems healthy to the game to exist a new anti-movement condition that has a different tactical purpose than the other anti-movement effects. It adds more depth and more diversity to combat.

Talk about being dramatic. Do you think Guardians are fine with the boon hate? I am not, but what I am going to do? Quit the game? No, at least not yet…I still try and enjoy the game regardless, doesn’t mean I am happy with the change.

This new condition was not needed on two of the three classes that will get it. No, it shouldn’t eventually be give all classes either. If decently played thieves/mesmers say they need this new condition I can tell you they are not decently played thieves/mesmers.

It is true…the new conditions seems exciting and interesting. But giving it to thieves and mesmers makes absolutely zero sense…imo of course.

Torment should have been a condition for the slower classes, so the more mobile can’t kite. Not for thieves and mesmers that are already a PITAto catch.

I honestly thought this was so obvious.

So much so, that without too deep of an inspection, I just assumed this was the case. It doesnt really make any sense, whatsoever, to me.

Thieves and mesmers dont really need help in running circles around their opponent, they already do it very, very well (even if they arent as OP as some make them out to be).

Like others have said though, maybe we just need to see it in play to make a real judgment of it. As it stands though, it just sounds bonkers to me.

Are you guys being serious right now? If you can’t run away from a Mesmer currently, you are so incredibly bad maybe you should just stick to PvE. Mesmers are good at running away because of chaos armor and stealth, both don’t help at all for chasing people down.
As far as thieves go, I’m pretty certain they’re going to have to sacrifice some of their mobility for access to Torment.

I am going to have to say if you let people get away you are a bad Mesmer lol.

As a person who plays the mesmer quite a bit, I can state that giving Thieves and Mesmers Torment is, generally, a bad idea!

These classes, along with the Elementalist, are very slippery and mobile classes, requiring opponents to be equally mobile to stand a chance of defeating them. Giving them access to a condition which punishes an opponent for pursuing (or running away from) these classes is entirely too much.

I’m sure the developers already know what I just stated, but I am uncertain if they have really played through the implications of this.

Torment can be used to punish an opponent for acting both offensively and defensively. It can be used to help pin down an opponent and help you escape from one.

Fundamentally, I have seen the ArenaNet developers try hard to push GW2 players in ways that force them to become better at the game. One of the most, and perhaps the single most, important aspect in PVP is learning how to move and position yourself well. Creating a condition that punishes movement of any kind seems counterproductive to that goal.

I think giving Necromancers access to Torment is an excellent idea, or for any class/build that is limited in mobility.

If Mesmers and Thieves get Torment, then basically ANet will have to balance Torment around the damage it does while a person moves. Doing anything otherwise would be pretty silly, and I think that would really marginalize the effectiveness of the DoT for classes like Necromancers.

Dont call the mesmer mobile -_-

Why not? My mesmer is only lvl 41 and I can say at that lvl I has plenty mobility. A distracted enemy makes you mobile doesn’t it?

I will say this again. Given Anet past history on “balance” everyone who doesn’t play a thief or mesmer has every right to be concerned about this.

yeah, cause mesmers and thiefs are soooooooo scary to my necromancer.. a little hint, they are not at all, those 2 professions aren’t “OP” or anything, it’s just bad people being bad, yeah i lose probably 60% of my fights against them, but i still 40% of the time, and losing is mainly because they outplay me.

Look at gw1 and balance and you’ll see they have 1 of the most balanced games ever for PvP.

I somehow feel you will not find a lot of people who agree with you.

If true, my thought is: WTF !!! are you crazy a.net !!!! instead of fixing thieves resource type and burst, or giving engineers stealth detection this is what you come up with ?

Torment is a condition, when was the last time you saw a condition build thief?
It’s not gonna be dangerous coming from a backstab thief or whatnot.

This. Seriously, guys, stop crying. D/P backstabbers aren’t going to be hitting you with this. S/D skirmishers aren’t going to be hitting you with this either. You’ll see this on P/D condition thieves, and honestly, they need a buff anyway. This is a good thing for the thief class, and won’t be harming the other classes’ viability.

You you know how torment will be implemented how exactly? That’s right you don’t. People have every right to be concerned about this given Anets past changes.
