It I will never fully understand this reaction. I could see if you were totally dupped and unaware. But going in knowing you are not promised the item…then raging about it?

Anet has stated the skins from now will no longer be account/soul bound, or something to that effect. Take this as a learn from your mistakes lesson and convert to gold next time.

Farming the Giant outside Arah

Personally I feel this is a problem Anet created. When ascended, legendary and even exotics need 100 to 250 of a rare material, you’re going to have farmers. I’m not talking about gold farmers. I mean legitimate people that WANT to gain each and every piece for their “shiny” the hard way. As crazy as that is to most of us, me included, there’s nothing wrong with that. However, Anet keeps taking away their farming areas and there’s something seriously wrong with that.

I understand that they want to get rid of goldfarmers and I can respect them for that but it should NEVER be at the expense of legitimate players! There’s a point where all the restrictions end up doing more harm than good. I don’t care how many graphs they show me or what convoluted, algebraic equations they toss my way to prove otherwise. The fact that Cursed Shore and Southsun Core are nearly empty while Queendale has a healthy population shows that they have clearly crossed that line and it is hurting the game.

./MovesHandsAwayFromHead while making a explosion sound. Someone gets it.

Now how to make Anet realize this…..

Man, people see the word farm and the first thing they do is grab their pitch forks, but its nice someone sees the big picture.

Not going to lie, I rez people if I see the pop-up. Hell pop all my buffs(Guardian) to rez someone in a rough spot. But I would not consider someone leaving me to die someone who doesn’t like the game. Hell, this is a RPG…this person might be the nicest person in real like, but in game he might be a outlaw who doesn’t give a kitten about anyone else lol.

Achievement Entitlement

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Amun Ra.6435

Amun Ra.6435

Why do players feel that they are entitled to achievements and the associated rewards?

Achievements used to be a fun sense of accomplishing content. Go do XXX content, get a “You completed XXX, congratulations!” and then go about doing whatever it was that you were doing. Slayer types are the most random of these as we adventures slash our way through the countryside killing everything in site.

However, lately achievements have become a hassle. It’s not that they’re more complicated and/or grind-tastic. That’s not the case. Instead achievements have turned the community upside down.

  • “But I need the achievement for my next chest.”
  • “I hate this content, but I need XXXX achievement.”
  • “Bleh! They really shouldn’t make PvP achievements for a PvE game.”

This is the sour taste of people who apparently hate certain pieces of content, but put themselves through it just to get +5-10 achievement points. Ever heard the term “one rotten apple spoils the whole bunch”? Well, this kind of constant complaining in team/map chat while players are enjoying the game,…well that makes the game less enjoyable. It gets to the point where one wishes they could just do a /votekick and make the complainers leave the game by popular vote.

  • “Can someone let me win for the achievement?”
  • “Dude, stop griefing! I want the achievement too!”
  • “Let’s just swap kills/wins for the achievements.”

Poor sportsmanship. Every mini-game that has come out since the beginning of the year has been plagued with self-centered attitudes. These mini-games are a type of Player-vs-Player (or ‘Team-vs-Team’) challenge. It seems that those achievement chasers try to avoid playing the content as designed, to the best of their abilities; instead opting to cheat their way to some more +achievement numbers.

Definition time:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/achievement

achieve·ment
noun \?-?ch?v-m?nt\
Definition of ACHIEVEMENT
1: the act of achieving : accomplishment
2a : a result gained by effort b : a great or heroic deed
3: the quality and quantity of a student’s work

That seems kind of contradictory of the attitudes within the game as of late. Doesn’t it? What’s one really accomplishing by begging for someone to allow them to kill them or give them first place? Is it really a heroic deed by cheating the system to cause only a single mob to spawn out of what’s designed to be ‘waves’ of them?

A player does not need every achievement in the game.
A person is not forced to do content they don’t want to do, save for by their own will.
Achievements are rewards for accomplishing content completion within the game.
Achievements are EARNED, not handed out.
Achievements are not a requirement, only a want by personal/self reasoning.

One could also argue that one major problem with the community people spend way to much time worrying about how others are playing the game, come to the forums and create a giant wall of text complaining about the complainers.

Kinda like the pot calling the kettle something or other. :-P

If people complain about the complainers they should have to admit that are part of the problem no?

The only problem with disregarding balance is that when a clearly superior strategy emerges, it results in the removal of diversity because the rest of the game gets polarized around that strategy. This greatly hinders diversity in the game, instead of fostering it.

…snip…pretty much stealth has a counter…

I am not arguing that…but the counters you thieves keep coming up with are based on pure dumb luck and spamming 1.

Come on, let’s try to be unbiased here…just a little. Can you honestly say stealth is fine the way it is? With is only counter’s being pure luck or spamming 1?

As bad is that is I think most people could deal with those being the only counter. It’s the thieves ability to just spam stealth over and over and over and over that has people hating on stealth, this simply should not be possible.

Thieves have the best mobility by far (as they should). The ability to choose how and when a fight starts (as they should). Insane healing in stealth (mmmmm). The ability to stay in stealth if damage taken (Really?). Top three on burst (as they should). Insane attack speed (sure, why not).

But spammable stealth? If a thief gets the jump on you your health is almost instantly down to 50%, if not more….is that really not enough for the thief community? Do you really need a spammable stealth that is used as a troll mechanic by 90% of the thief community? Yes I made that number up, because well…that’s what most thieves I encounter use it as.

YOU CAN STILL HIT US WHEN WE ARE STEALTHED! Learn to use your own abilities before criticizing those of others.

I play a Thief. Skilled players kill me. Unskilled players do not. Kill or get skilled.

Really again? If your opponent is lucky they can hit you in stealth as there is no way of TRACKING you…that so hard to understand? So no, that is not a counter to stealth.

If you get killed I bet it’s because engage correct? Or is it the luck of being hit while in stealth.

The fact is the most of the time it is a total troll mechanic. The tPVP community is tiny in comparison to any other. And outside of it it is a troll mechanic with NON-STOP popping in and out of stealth.

And I am sure you are not part of the 2 or more stealth teams that insta kill one or two of the other team in pvp and thus…have an unfair advantage…you know which class you kill first.

Suggestion for Necromancer Elite Skill

I was playing another game recently and this one particular class and an amazing passive skill, rez on death.

Now, I think a skill like this would be awesome on a Necromancer and would totally make sense given the classes name.

Now it would work simple…you slot this in your elite skills. Upon the health bar reaching zero the Necromancer would go invulnerable and become a huge blood stain or mark in the ground. The Necromancer would then have 5s to spawn in a chosen spot in a certain radius or rez in the same spot if no rez spot is chosen. This skill would be on a 5m CD.

Thoughts? Would this be a skill Necros could go for?

This topic has already been discussed. What you now suggest is to take away a player right…muting musical instruments.

Now I ask…why is your right to be heard more important than another’s right not to be bothered with your music? Be it great music or not.

Now I personally will listen to some peoples music and enjoy it at times, but again…if a player truly doesn’t want to hear it they should not be forced to do so.

…A thief “trolling” or even downing and finally killing multiple people can do so because those multiples dont work as a team. Don´t blame the thief because of your lack of teamwork, and before you start about how he can escape every time, he cannot. He cannot escape everytime…

So…what you are basically saying that is should take a team using great teamwork to kill a thief? If that doesn’t spell out broken I don’t know what does…

In WvW for instance…when was the last time you say a downed thief?…I honestly can’t remember.

And to the rest of your post…all other classes should not be forced into spamming 1 to hit a thief…come on now, you can’t honestly expect people to take that seriously. The truth is stealth has zero counter…spamming 1 or aimlessly aoe’ing and HOPING to get lucky with a hit is not a counter…that rebuttal from thieves is getting old.

“If you want to hit us guys spam 1…L2P” That is just ridiculous.

Another? I wasn’t aware there was others but clearly other people take issue with it.

You have totally ignored the thread. I’ll try again.

You. Can. Not. Complete. It. With. People. Farming. It.

It’s possible but it’s incredibly difficult and people abuse and insult you. If there is 50 people doing it and only 1 is trying to complete it, it’s not the difficulty of a 1 man event. It’s the difficulty of a 50 man event.

You also should not have to guest just because people want ‘epic loot $$$’

Go farm CoF or something that isn’t impacting other players.

Let me be clear…

Let me be very clear Yes.You.Can. Regardless of farmers You.Can.Still.Complete.It.!
But! It’s a group event…don’t rage because you can’t solo it.

Farming the Giant outside Arah

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Amun Ra.6435

Amun Ra.6435

Except that’s not correct.

People back off so far that the adds don’t aggro them. If you’ve been around when they reset it, you’ll understand. It’s incredibly difficult to solo when there is that many people.

The biggest issue with this is people don’t actually understand the impact it has.

Events get upscaled, that means the more people there, the harder they get, because the game thinks those players are trying to complete it. Thus if there is 50 people there and only 1 trying to complete it and then they all back off, you get an event that is so difficult, 50 people are usually required to complete it, but only one person doing it.

So one guy, doing 50 people’s work. It’s not as simple as, “just complete it.” That person takes on all the aggro and unless they’re incredibly good, usually die within seconds.

This isn’t even taking into account the abuse that gets hurled their way.

You need to think about how events work and what blocking the chain from finishing actually does before you start defending the farm.

I’ll spell it out again.

  1. If the event is not completed, Arah stays closed
  2. The more people there, the more difficult the event.
  3. Even backing off a minor amount keeps the event up-levelled. If there is 50 players and one wants to complete it, they’re doing an event designed to be completed by 50 people
  4. Farming this has an impact on the economy, DR or not. It affects it.
  5. People who attempt to complete it often receive abusive remarks and insults
  6. Farming this blocks Arah from being opened
  7. Farming this blocks Arah from being opened
  8. Farming this blocks Arah from being opened
  9. Farming this blocks Arah from being opened
  10. If all servers are doing this, Arah is closed from the game completely.
  11. If all servers are doing this, Arah is closed from the game completely.
  12. Guesting isn’t a solution, for other dungeons you have the option of completing the event or guesting. With this you do not.

Those are facts. They are not opinions. That is how this game functions.

OMG dude…none of those listed are “facts”, stop while you are behind man lol..really.

All servers are not doing this…again, All servers are not doing this! nor will they ever all be doing this. By your own words…were the only one trying to complete the event!

If you want to solo Arah so bad, GUEST! I promise you…there will be a Arah open…really, there will be.

Stealth needs a counter but
Damage should not cause stealth to end. That is way to easy to just shoot in random directions to reveal a thief. If you do that, nobody will play thief anymore and people will just be spamming 1 while running in the off chance they reveal a thief.

That mechanic has worked in EVERY other game that has stealth…and guess what…people still played stealth classes.

This comment just shows how bad the situation with thieves is and how is does not foster skill building. Thieves who think like this only use stealth as a crutch and will not truly learn how to play because of it.

Stealth isn’t…totally…the problem. It’s the ability to be a total troll with it. In every other game that has learned to balance stealth…it was purely a mechanic to get the jump on an opponent or to escape a situation that was unfavorable. However escaping usually put that escape skill on a decently long CD. Damage also pops a stealth class from stealth…but not in GW2.

In GW@ it is a total troll mechanic…one can poke and stealth infinitely and heal insanely well while doing so. I believe that is where all the stealth hatred comes from…it is for me at least.

The only direct counter to it is being full on tank. Getting lucky with an aoe skill is not a counter.

Stealth NEEDS some balancing in this game.

In CoH you were in stealth about 80% of the time on a Stalker, so not every game :P Also in SwTor you were pretty much in stealth the majority of the time on a couple classes.

Ok, every successful game. :-P

Honestly people need to stop raging on each other, isn’t Anet responsible for ruining EVERY farm spot that gets discovered?

Diminishing Returns was not enough for them….
Dynamic Scaling was not enough for them….

They didn’t stop there, they had to set the timers to where you could actually sit for 30m without any DE’s popping.

So it’s no surprise farmers get frustrated when I group comes to interfere with their farming. Let me stress I am not defending those who are excessively rude and/or idiotic.

But lets try to look at it from the farmers perspective…Anet has done everything short of flipping the bird to the farming community. It’s has been very frustrating.

But again…dungeon runners should not be raged on, nor should farmers have to deal with people who will purposely ruin their farm just for the hell of it.

Also, are there really so many attacks in PvE that you don’t have enough dodges without Vigor? The number of people I’ve seen just dodge randomly for no net gain is so high that I have an intensely hard time believe that.

Ok folks lets look at this logically.

Before the patch you could soak up overflow damage by being in death shroud.
Before the patch people were intentionally using this to mitigate damage.
This is evidently not an intended use of deathshroud, so they changed it.

So at this point you have 3 schools of thought:

#1. WWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!

#2. The ability to use deathshroud this way was potentially getting in the way of necros getting a buff. Now that this capability is gone they will be able to test and observe if necros can perform up to their desires and if they do not they will buff them in some way.

#3. Necro’s will still be good in other areas of the game buy may need sPVP specific buffs.

Necros can’t suicide-jump off cliffs anymore. That’s about the only real DS-nerf here.

On the other hand, they fixed a bug that apparently was letting Necros take more damage from direct attacks while in DS. So I’d say the survivability is now INCREASED. Not even talking about the faster generation of life force through spectral skills and axe 2.

Spoken like someone who has never played a necro… go back to ele or guard, leave the skilled players alone…

Actually, Necro is one of the classes I play quite frequently. I didn’t touch my lvl 30 Ele or my lvl uhm… 14 (I think) Guardian for at least two months.

Edit: Talking about skilled; it appears to me that you’re not one of the “skilled players” if you don’t see the facts. Even if you should have to face-tank a big attack of a boss for some weird reason, it will actually do less damage as before, because they fixed the bug that did make you take more direct damage while you are in DS.

Going into DS before a big incomming hit (backstab/mighty blow/evisc/boss’ OHKO) would make you effectively ‘dodge’ it, even if you had only 5% pool. Now you will eat all the dmg as it overflows out of DS. That’s why he called on you being not-skilled. This is not only a jump-off-cliffs nerf, it’s a definately survivability nerf since we didn’t get any evade/invul/escape tool replacement. Check wiki for Evade/Invul/Block/, guess who’s missing at the party.

You need at least 10% life force to get into DS.

I find it heavily unlikely that everyone complaining about this actually used a sliver of life force to soak up a big hit. The way people are crying it sounds like some people could absorb every backstab and always generate 10% life force on a whim to block everything.

Most if the time it’s probably soaking 1k damage, and hardly ever these huge hits.

That’s because you are thinking in PvP style, think using PvE, and you will see a HUGE difference.

You’re right, i was thinking about PVP.

Personally I would consider using this in PVE to be an exploit.

Did you really just say that? I feel dumber for having read that sentence….

I mean… O.o huh?

You really thought it was intended to tank infinite damage when DS is drained? This change was coming for months. If it caught you by surprise, I’m really not sure what to say. Perhaps if you wanted blocks on demand you should have rolled a guardian.

I have two 80’s…take a guess at what the other one is lol…petty people assume so much…

And since it is painfully clear you don’t play a necro…you can not tank “infinite” damage with ds…get a clue dude…

This change was totally unwarranted.

There was just no reason to touch DS, not in the least…there is zero logic in it. I can guarantee you that no Dev is willing to give any reasoning behind this change…

Guess it would depend on what part of the game you are referring to.

WvW – Thieves
PvP – Probably still thieves
PvE – Warriors/Mesmers

People saying Guardians really don’t have a clue…you can literally run everything dungeon or fractal with just zerk warriors/mesmers and get the fastest times doing so.

As the title states. What was the reasoning behind the death shroud nerf? Necro have no real escapes outside dodge…I don’t see the reasoning with this…

Wow…I just noticed they removed it…that is just a low move. What was said in the thread the it warranted a delete? Our dissatisfaction with one of our only escape’s from being killed?

reason behind time gating quartz?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Amun Ra.6435

Amun Ra.6435

It’s time gated for the same reason new currencies are introduced, to prevent rich characters from instantly getting all the best gear.

Everyone starts with a level playing field. You only need to acquire 25 quartz a day to get a charged quartz and that’s reasonably easy to do between the mining points at Labyrinthine Cliffs and your home instance and a few kite baskets.

It’s also time gated to encourage players to play daily. A “happy” MMO is a populated MMO.

If people are just logging in to do these dailies then they are going to leave the second a big name MMO is released…tactics like this might keep a player logging in for daily things…but it wont keep them…

I think they are doing these kinds to things to make players want to log in everyday…this reeks of desperation. I think they are losing players and trying to keep them playing the laziest way possible…time gated material.

I honestly could care less for the charged quartz…just my opinion on why they are doing things like this.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the other big MMO’s come out.

Yeah I know about that, but getting a real group together that doesn’t glitch will most likely always end up in people raging cause of a wipe or constant dying or other random stuff that you see when not glitching. The only solution is to play with friends you know won’t want to glitch. :/

So you don’t want to run with “glitchers” but you also don’t want to make your own group…guess you are S.O.L..

After reading some of the posts I really hope people are not referring to “Guardians” or “Guards” as GA’s

LOL..you can’t really expect people to take you seriously with talk like that…

…banned for doing an event…lol…was having a bad day…thanks for the laugh.

ok, well theres one that don’t actually read anything….

Oh I read it…it’s just hilarious, calling for bans and all…

No one is stopping you from completing the event if you are able to do so and feel so passionately about it…plain and simple.

Calling for bans for not being able to do an event or not is just funny…thats all…

ok, that still does not change the fact, its exploitation. Anet knows this and is dealing with so much because of players taking advantage like this.

Basically you can consider yourself and all those who do the same an indirect cause to all the nerfs and changes being made wether you like to admit it or not, its the truth.

Eventually it will probably be fixed somehow but by that time the exploiters have gotten what they need.

I personally feel that those who do this should be delt with by either temporary bans to give them the chance to play as intended or eventually get banned for good.

Plan and Simple:

PLAY THE GAME AS INTENDED OR DON’T PLAY AT ALL!

Ok despite what anyone says you CANNOT change the definition of what your doing.

You are taking an event, one that has a specific goal to KILL the rison and champ, and making it continue on over and over without completing it just so it will give you loot beyond what it was ment to give and in turn halting the progress of other players who wish to complete and move further in the game instead of helping them by completing the event.

THIS IS EXPLOITATION pure and simple because you are NOT doing the event as it was designed.

Farming – what your trying to put off as what your doing, means to gather loot around the world, not sit in one place and exploit an event to make it give you loot.

My opinion: this type of exploitation is no better than botting and should be delt with accordingly and is also very rude to others who are there to play as intended!

Equal to botting? lol…credibility gone…lol.

Honestly, people on both sides need to grow up….

No one complaining needs to be stating “Whats best for the community” because none of the name callers want that.

Sure the farmers could not have just moved on to another farming spot…but Anet has made this farming spots harder and harder to find and not replacing them with anything equally rewarding…in the open world…

If the dungeon group really had to do the dungeon on that specific server they simply just had to finish the event and to do their runs….

Now lets look at the facts….Anet has had a personal vendetta with open world farmers, they continue to nerf every spot to the point where mobs will drop zero loot….not exaggerating…some mobs have had their loot tables completely dropped to zero and then there is DR, which seems to kick in very quick sometimes…Dungeons still are a great way to make gold and Anet has not nerfed them to the point you get zero gold.

The dungeon group could have easily guested to another server and ran the dungeon…and let the farmers farm

Now…if I was in the dungeon group and farmers started calling me names, I would have finished the event in spite…and I would have been in the right…period…any farmer that has to avert to name calling deserves to have their farming ruined til the event pops again…

Now…would have the dungeon group just guested if asked politely?

This thread made me LOL…

Never amazes me how much people think of themselves…but it’s actually called and MMO*RPG*(Massively multi-player role playing game. Sure training is annoying, IF intentional…but by no means a punishable offense.

I assume a guide on how to train would just as acceptable to you? Considering you feel the empowered to do the opposite and somehow feel it is the correct way to play? Or your way of playing the only way to play a MMO

Or does the mask of Krosslite do no wrong? I mean, this is just your mask and have no way to know how you are real life situations…correct? Why does this guide need to exist?

LOL, that post is 7 months old….botting is totally useless in Orr right now…DR is so horrible, botting is simply not profitable there right now they way i see it…but yes…they do have a hard stance on mobs.

In fact…I was spending some time in Orr last night, its my favorite map, and pent/shelt popped(miracle) and I would get zero loot from some waves…its the same from fight single mobs…DR is just so horrible
