Wrong, Lyssa is universally better than corruption skills (since they are situational as a lasor cannon mounted on a sleeping stubborn donkey), the 12 second cooldown works really nice with a traited epidemic. Its on par with most utilites we got and better than a little chunk of them because of mesmer like dual effect it has on a low cooldown. Feel free to spam it (since you get the boon even if nothing is targeted), just a nice bit of specialized builds probably work better than a genera/condi working with lyss.

Still seems way to op imo. Siphoning should just have a base value which scales with either power or healing or both very slightly.

It has the strenth of a master trait in net healing over 60 seconds if you got best in slot stats and weaker than heal passives of other classes for pvp…

@Pendragon Indeed. On the one hand you have classes such as Engineer or Necro. And on the other hand you have the ultimate faceroll DPS monster machine, also known as Warrior.

You might wanna fix it to Guardian since Warriors are pretty kitten outside of getting carried/protected to instagib a peron (aka what a thief does when not backcapping for giggles) for pvp, even a hybrid necro outdoes them in terms of team worth…

Skill ceiling in the way I was using it was judged by effectiveness of what you can achieve by max skill input. We can choose a different word if that will move on past this word issue.

I don’t want to get into an argument over semantics. Just about every profession thinks theirs is the hardest to learn/master whatever. Necro I tend to also think is one of the harder ones, but it doesn’t change that you are not pulling off what other professions do in this game, regardless of having learned everything. If you want to call that just mobility, then fine, give us mobility. Skill alone cannot make up for not having it and only goes so far.

If you just go into casual hot join with kind of a beginner or average player, they are going to do much better with an Ele, Thief, Ranger than with a Necro. So call those lower skill ceiling by that definition if you want. But sadly at the top levels of skill the same thing applies, Necro still comes up short between two elite players who know their class inside out. Other professions do more for less work, less skill. Whether we are talking current sPVP top tier meta, or just messing around in WvW looking for fights. This is the complaint with the profession. It would be dumb to give Anet brownie points for making one of the hardest classes to play, also one of the most lacking in effectiveness.

Oh you kids and your weird stuff, once upon a time skill ceiling ment how you could squeeze out from what you had, not how much it actually is on a numerical scale. Yes necros scale like kitten and most skills and traits either dont have scailing, its weaird or plain start off too bad/situational to have a reliable use and unlike a bigger part of the game its on over 50% of the things we have. Thats a balance issue and we all know it by now (at least i hope, just like mesmer cripling specialization, warrior derpyness of being brawlers but nothing else, guardians lack of true ranged/siege power, engie bipolarness and ranger/projectile/pet/every dodgy not true but kinda leap obstructioness, etc). BIG BUT that is not a representation of what the skill ceiling is, example who is a better tradesman, a person that turned 10$ into 1000$ (necro) or a person that turned 500$ into 3500$ (ele)?

Your last sentence about the ele actually counts for every single class in this game, they are all seriously braindead easy to learn. If anything its the ele you talked about that is the hardest to learn simply because of the cooldown tracking and number of skills and their synergy with eachother, instead of the necros slow activating abilities and stacking 3 different tiny fears to get any sort of duration out of them while you facetank in perpetual stunned mode.

When a thief can fear you for 3 seconds with 1 ability, and you can get a 3 second fear by putting staff, DS and corrupt boon on cooldown, is your skill cap really that much higher? Or are you just clunky outdated kitten? Is scepter really harder than Ele dagger? Hell, is our dagger really that much harder? Or is it just crappier?

I can use my (utility) skills half as many times as other classes can, fear my leet decision making skillz.

No its not hard to throw circles on ground and press F1, what is hard is to make the circles on the ground count instead of them being dodged and the F1 actually being a second renewable hp bar instead of a nice blob of green effects as what you are obviously using them. Also i have a ele and know that unless you really like spamming staff/focus 4/5s or still use ride the lightning as a run away skill, everything will be up by the time you finished a full rotation to start another one, there is actually no personal (there is for the team) difference between a good timed fire field, a combo of knockback into fire grab arcana burst followed by a knockdown to escape and just derping up cantrips, churning eath and then flashing, the most advanced thing youll get as a ele is using swaps while another is on 1.9~1.5 seconds away from being back up for it to trigger global and recharge faster (and with every ele weapon designed to go air-fire-earth-water you get the F1-4/z-v/whatever keybinds you are using timings pretty easy).

For short ele got set rotations to squeeze out as much as they can from the 4 attunemnts, so to max out its not skill of combos but being able to click 40 buttons at once that counts, so idiotic spiked learning curve, medium skill ceiling (e.g. Orianna/Syndra in LoL).
Lets say you do that as a necro… yeah you got yourself a pile of dead everything, not a living dodging 4+ booned living tank, but for someone who doesnt wanna squeeze out as much as they want and just be ok, necros will do fine; easy initial learning curve like prancing on a meadow that then hits a brick wall high as the Olympus Mons, just as high max skill ceiling (e.g. Cho’gath/Elise in LoL).

Also you would know, if you played the necro right, that no, both reapers mark and corrupt boon are better than a self centered max 5 second fear, also wasting new traited steal (that pretty much every thief should have traited) for kitten 3-5 second fear (being both condition and cc thus easy to either return or remove) is stupid when you can just drop assassins-basilisk-head shot/any ranged skill into step during cast into backstab with lyssa or mad king to gib a person faster than mario kills a sleeping goomba.

Because Necro have (next to engie) probably the highest skill ceiling, you know the fact how or class mechanics interact with cooldowns and control , a necro that times their DS and staff skill usage is 50 times better than a spammer, unlike in some other cases (not to diss on eles, but post learning the base combos you can pretty much just rotate around spamming everything in the right order and not give a toss, just you need to have like 4 arms).

We are talking different things I think. You are talking how hard the class is to master, which I agree is high ceiling to learn. But I’m talking what you can achieve once you actually reach that ceiling. Show me the videos of one Necro trolling 2, 3 or even 5 enemies, like an Ele, Thief, or Mesmer, you can’t. Because a mastered Necro’s max capability is much lower due to lacking the things I cited.

Thats not skill ceiling, thats mobility… a characters skill ceiling is how much you can do for invested potential, a learning curve is increase in personal knowledge of said whatever for just as big of a increase from point b to c as from a to b.
Example: in any of the FF games, your main character has the highest skill ceiling because they are designed to fit every role the player wishes to do, as in a blank slate, while lets say a warrior while strong at start with their slices, but barely move in worth output as investment for a Mega master ultimate tech slice 9999xxxxxxx that maybe does 50 more damage, as in they will stay pretty linear with their maximum potential while a mage, while starting with flares and cure will turn into this massive living nuke that shoots 5 ultimas pre boss fight in a row (or reverse if talking original GW).
Necros are pretty easy to start playing, even to play ok, but trying to master timing of DS, control over cooldown rotations and life force maximization is like asking a person that doesnt know how to open a web browser play SC2 vs a pro/max settings comp, virtually impossible, but the better you get at its usage (and staff usage since i still think the 2 are just made to work together), you get just as big of power jumps as you have invested.

Its a effect, like the heart chill from mount maelstorm, poison from old tom, 1 bleed stack from sword impale, agony itself, etc *hint hint necros used to have some of their conditions as effects with sacrifices* Also mob (that includes the boulders that you can kill by hitting them with vampiric on spawn) fire fields dont have the 1 tick thing but continous reapplication of burning, like the molotovs you can throw around.

Trait Blood to Power scales Life Siphoning

Siphons are horrible, especially since you need at least 20 points in the line to even consider using them…

Play a DD bunker Ele in water attunement and you will realise how bad they actually are.

They need to scale … even if just a little bit.

Or a bunker regeneration ranger… Life siphons don’t even compare.

Or even a 0/0/30/10/30 bomb+kit engie, you die only when 3 people gank you and both elixirs and elite are down… and even then allies will have time to respond.

Vitality scaling good with DS is a myth.
Last night I build my necro with a Knight’s amulet,5 runes of the soldier and 1 rune of the wurm just to achieve maximum life pool (32.502 HP, 2329 Vit).Also got him 30 points on Blood and 30 points on Soul using just one trait, vital persistence(25% slower LF drain on DS)
Then I filled my LF Pool on a friend warrior and made him burst me out of DS to see the total damage I could stand.
Taking in consideration the % LF degenerations I could only take about ~20.000 damage before I leave DS.
This tells me that either vitality doesn’t add much on your amount of LF or that the degeneration is a strong percentage(something like 2% per sec maybe more).
I always disliked too much Vit on my necro, now I can safely say that Toughness>Vit for necro.
Also as someone above said, it is hard to heal the huge life pool of necro, and our best chance is some 25-49 ticks of life stealing,which is not a percentage and toughness would scale better than vitality on it.

Degen is 4% pre second, LF pool is around 59% up to 77% of your hp, last 1% of DS being a hard cap with no hp that just stops the hit and kicks you out of it (you could take 1 damage or 1000000000, the last % will still be consumed with no damage overflow).

Blaine Tog.8304 – I must say Ren is right about life blast, WHEN and only when you got less than 50% LF (what as a condi and even hybrid with soul marks is pretty often since you gotta use it to eat up the hits youd be allowed just dagger + staff 2 away as a power necro most of the time), since the old DS power scailing with life force when you could get life force in DS damage balance doesnt work with its current setup – both for pve and pvp.
Also either aftercast must go away or it getting cut to 3/4 cast time with no facing requirement (could just be as a added effect in reapers might).
You are right about other stuff, Vit has a 1.6~1.77 scailing with DS depending on soul reaping and just as on a warrior its worth is the same for defensive play as toughness, all corruption skills are designed to be stronger than ususal but situational (just wish they used underwater cast times, again or at least removed the hand wave effect and that they are technically projectiles thus can be mimic absorbed and/or destroyed (but not reflected/blocked).

Point being with warriors, it doesn’t matter how good or bad your trait tree is if you are an absolutely useless class. Necromancers have some terrible adept traits, but we also have some amazing traits.

I think that this was already said multiple times, its current meta with them not warriors as themself that dont mix. It is only hotjoin stuff, but just as my new bunker bomb heal/kit engie and roam stabby stab mario thief that wouldnt work vs a organized team doing the 2 point or zerg tactics in tournaments, a charrior works both as a defender not bunker of 2 point swapping around and smashing with hammer or roam/poking with longbow & Sword/Axe with perma fury and 20 might does its job in nice chaotic and fun hotjoins.

For weapon swaps, transforms count as weapons, just like bundles do (lich is a staff, plague is a one handed sword, they even help the weapon master chivs), so yes it will proc weapon swap sigils and if you interrupt the sigil effect it will count your elite cooldown as your sigil cooldown (since sigils place the internal cooldown on the weapon skill side), same reason why Mad king runes have like a 33% chance of not proccing with lich (it hase pre cast time and plague has aftercast unlike lich just having a funny chest puff demon cloud animation when it runs out).

So… technically speaking you should be able to siphon from up to 25 people, or for over 20k HP. Wow.

it goes up to around 1.3 from 900, so yeah you could a 32k heal (biggest i got was a 19k from the Skelks in AC), problem is, the damage is so low, its just slotting in another heal that can get blocked by each enemy hit, it only siphons from things within the 480 around your main target and most of the time the movement speed will save your kitten when the heal will just give the mob/zerg another second of slapping you onto the ground.

4 things:

Mark of blood is a skull, Putrid mark is a Charr bat wing icon, Chillblains and Reapers on the other hand are the same claw icon.

Signet of the Locust has a triple scailing, 15 point trait turns damage compnent into siphoning (thus ignoring armor), but loses power scailing, 10 points to get bloodlust efficiently gives it a 1.66~75 scailing on healing power from 1, it does have a 5 player hit limit like all aoes for damage, but the healing component just takes in head count up to 25 people (since it technically takes a aoe around the targets hit by damage, not around selected target, turning a 5 player hit limit into 25). I did a post about it a few months ago (Dagger life siphon works a lot like it too im terms of fancy scailing).

Done, good trait. Should be Grandmaster though.

Problem 1 – Curses GMs are already good and have dual use
Problem 2 – So when does the skill siphon, is it on bleed tick, is it just on applying bleeds, does it work with secondary bleed effects/indirect application (epidemic, barbs, self bleed BIP, etc) and is there a cooldown.

I think you didnt get what i ment, actually its 197 damage pre hit with 131 heal pre hit if scaled up to 2.4k power 400 hp (full best in slot with 20 into spite) 524 hp pre auto attach chain.
Its 0.071 * Power – scales damage delt, 66%/2/3 of it goes over into healing (not from damage delt by your abilites themself)and 0.045 * Healing Power – adds to siphon and 150% of it adds to damage.
Both values are small enough with current max stats to be lower than same statted thief/ele heal passives, but still significan enough to be a good trait tanky/power necros would want.

One problem with condition spihoning is, condi necros already are the superior ranged firepower setup (rangers on flank being the only guys that can efficiently outrange us with true/not hybrid focused setups), also imagine 25~28 siphons pre second, it would really have to use the 25 hp pre tick thing vampiric has right now not to be broken.

Is Chilling Darkness > Haemophilia? Honestly curious as it is something I have been thinking about swapping around but haven’t got around to trying. I know conditions do drop off quickly in WvW so I haven’t really gone out of my way to stack bleed duration (20% from points in spite, 36% from pizza, 33% from Lingering Curse all of which come “for free” with the build I run) but with Haemophilia I on top I think that takes me over the magic 100% duration – if Lingering Curse is multiplicative? – which is supposedly the “holy grail” so we get an extra tick from Barbed Precision right? What are your thoughts? Am I just plain wrong (as usual)?

Lingering curses goes over the cap since it increases base duration of condis on scepter not actually giving condition duration (thus also increasing the efficiency of the cond duration you already got), hemophilia on the other hand is just pretty boring/kinda useless in comparison to how other stuff could impact your gameplay).

To sum up necro stuff, everything on base can be used most of the time (except corruption skills, that are op in the situations where you can use them and useless the rest of the time except for stacking up self condis for consume conditions) and has high investment/gain/loss ratio, sadly our scailing is dumped into 1/3 of the skills and the typical base damage got cut by 3/4ths during the great death shroud immortalization known as beta (compare numbers on most utility skills we got and youll see most end up lower than some 1 chain spam parts). But if you go hybrid (rampagers or Carrion/Rabid if you feel like somehow standing in melee with a 900 range weapon) with something like a 10/30/0/0/30 setup spamming fears, 4+ conditions on a enemy and dropping 1-3 life blasts every 10 seconds, you get pretty high sustained damage.

True burst can be gained with Valkyre arcane eles (insane spikes that manage to outdo warriors with time warp) and quad-mind whacks from zerker mesmers, but they have their own gripes (eles losing out a ton of stuff that might not be worth the trade and mesmers having close to no reliable/controlled zone aoe outside of their confusion on glamour).

My personal wish is that it wasn’t so difficult to boost condition damage and your physical damage and your condition duration, without sacking important food, rune, and trait slots.

I’m sorry but do you honestly not realize how incredibly ridiculous this sounds? Your only wish was that you could have everything…? Wha…?

What Ren means is, he wishes for better scailing and/or base damage on weapons, example Dagger (primary direct damage weapon for necros) 2 (in general power weapons main burst skills) in full soldier is 1.1k-4.4k damage, while Guardian GS 2 is 2.7-9.6k and that some of our conditions are returned to their pre ds nerf times when they all went from 5 to 10 seconds (fears being 2 or 3 long).

Heh, one annoying thing with this now is that thieves can give themselves 20s of stability if they’re able to boon steal in between your blinds.

They really need to fix the stability stuff with transformations.

As a person that actually plays a thief from time to time when im wanna feel like in the super mario days (instakilling everything by jumping on them but dying from a light pat on the cheek), i must say: Hi rune of lyssa, nice to meet you, AGAIN, now please go away from the necros, warriors, guardians and eles, thx.

if you’re condition specced you shouldn’t drop terror for chill on blind. that would be a very bad idea.

Or just Slot in Chilling Darkness on the adept and Terror in the master slot (where it should belong since all other traits there are little rats compared to the massive cobra that is terror, yes master of corruption and wells use targeting are ok, but you dont really need em in open fights and if you are defending im asking why even use plague?

Note for leveling, minion damage is fixed to zone, thus they are quite overpowered till you hit orr, you can essencially just minion/mark bomb stuff from a small hill on that mobs cannot climb and win, but since you are around 5 levels away from that yeah just pick up what the guys above said.
Also be sure to pick up Lich form and 10 points into soul reaping for piercing Life Blasts, seeing one hit 5 things at once for 1-2k damage kinda makes up for the kitten long cast time.

The two things about Lich I would like changed are auto-attack is off by default and the form’s large size. I waste at least 1 second turning on the auto-attack and that delay can get longer if there is heavy lag. The large size of Lich means that the camera position/point of view is moved and can violate solid objects so my view is occluded, or the lich itself obstructs my view. This can be a huge problem in confined spaces..

Thats kinda more of a thing from the past, Lich 1 was chilling all targets hit and 2 was a secondary “auto attack” (as in no/close to no CD) that spawned the sodding rats instead of a 5 minion mark spawn on (4&5 being auras), devs just didnt bother to change/check the transformations, Google GW2 press demo Sylvari necromancer.

A lot of staves have that problem, but im starting to think its a thing with the staff 1 animation not the actual staves.
About being tiny, well lets just say that it fits for those with the same type of staff, personally emberglow is not only bigger but better (then again i saw it on a asura, so im not sure about its scale on normal characters).

Note piercing for nost traits only means it will go trough targets between you and what you want to make into a fine pate of cheeze and loot, not go past selection over 600 range in the direction it was shot.

Eh the projectile doesn’t go over 1200…I can’t hit the ice wall in front of Jormag with it, while I can with Mesmer GS#1.

That ice wall is not a good indicator since the targetting on it is janky. The staff 1 has a max range of about 1400, but anything beyond 1200 range won’t trigger the auto-attack chain, so you would have to mash 1. It is, however, quite useful in the harpy fractal.

That was sadly fixed, claw self-destructs on 1200.

Problem being in a full power build Lich is hitting 6k per attack, and with that being around 6k DPS (a bit off from cast times) cleave, you’re practically throwing out 100b auto attacks (DPS wise). It would be very difficult for them to buff things to reach that. The 2 abilities (jagged horror/vulnerability mark) need to be made more utility based. 5 is still a huge asset to blow boons/condis off people, 3 is still a great CC tool, its just 2&4 that aren’t good to use in most cases.

You know, 2 is a ok increase in dps (if cast once) and despite my hate for jhorrs (and all undead rodents for that matter), spawning a total of 10 rodents to get slaughtered by boss aoe (notable being FABULOUS pink flames in CoF 1, Alpha spikes and shammy le freeze with more ham than ARRRHHHNOLDZ “Put that cookie down!”), but abuse the 5 hit limit on aoes is quite nice, sadly useless in pvp.

As for the Necro DS backpiece missing, yeah it’s been a thing where pack pieces go invisible after using certain skills. Happens on my Engie all the time as well, hope it’s fixed so that they are permanently visible even while in DS. (edit:) Solution for if your backpiece goes missing after you use a skill, just hide then reveal it in the Hero UI.

Hide unhide doesnt work with DS since its technically a transformation (like lich and plague), thus uses base model + armor, turns it invis and puts layers of black a kid made in photoshop using a tentacle monster and smudge tool (seriously its really low rez compared to most animations if you look at it close up), just like plague form being a glorified warhorn 5 animation on same invis body.

Technically seen it has a close to infinite by map standard teleport range (as in you can activate it wherever you want), problem is the distance traveled is the set 1200.
Then again im biased and think minions suck and will suck as long as they use the current implementation instead of mixing them up with life force usage of the necro, so rather fix siphon, hit detection and cast times than a wurm.

We made sure to allow enough achievements so that if folks who didn’t want to do PvP or jump puzzles would still be able to get the full meta achievement completed, and get the backslot items (we did that for the sample collection as well, only requiring 10 of the 11 samples to complete the achievement since one of them is more difficult to get to than others)
Everyone likes different things, so we try to make a little something for everyone. Its okay not to like something, just don’t do it. There’s still plenty of stuff on the island to do, and more to come in the weeks ahead.

Next time remember to throw the crap toss and other pvp minigame achivements that take insanity, achivement whoring and brain damage to finish just to require only 2 (as in like the wintersday pvp that a zombie monkey that is missing half his body could get in half a hour of fuznies pvp) or put them in their own little place that noone cares about like keg brawl. Every kind of pvp achivement has nothing to do with the living story and/or pve, so they shouldnt mix even if the pvp is themed after whats going on in Tyria.

Karka aren’t a problem they are dumb AI, and weak to condition. But when you face live humans, the above issues begin to present more obviously.

You know, that was kinda the thing the whole thread was based on, its just i noticed it when i tried to run past 8 karka in a small hallway and they ate 100% LF in half a second...

I assume you mean that suicide cave... I couldn’t run through it even with plague. I got straight dps’d out of it, and then out of LF, and then dead.

Yeah any situation like that is a similar representation to a Necro getting focus fired in PVP. Our main form defense is facetank, our class mechanic is a self degenerating face tank, and even our elite is just a buffed up facetank. How redundant can you get. In a situation like that, stealth is better, RTL is better, invulnerability is better, blink is better, etc.

Even Spectral Walk and Flesh Worm, which gives us pseudo telpeorts, can’t match the above, because their access is limited to a stagnant points which are behind where we’ve already been. They can never be used to cross a gap, or burst damage to a forward point.

Dark Path reverting to be used as it once was, as a true teleport, just drop the targeting requirement, would solve a lot. Would need to be a bit faster though.

Or 2 old traits *cough perma stability in DS and 10% less damage taken in DS, well used to be 33% but thats op*

So not only do engies get double screwed (no animation for everyone, engies getting backs covered by kits), but also necros with each DS instantly hides back slots till you hide then unhide them again…

Im on a 570 and nothing happens (steady 100~120), but general tip, game is pretty poorly optimized so shadows and reflection can ruin your fps.

Entire crap throw needs to be taken out with all the achivements with it then burned with reanimator/all other trait line destroying minior traits, the quaggans and people crying for zerker warriors/heavy armor users in easy dungeons to save maybe half a minute on a dungeon run that they aint gonna stay for to repeat so many times that it might be noticed.

I noticed, but i also noitced that golem and/or blood fiend are even better and i still dont have to pick up reanimator. Also blood is way cuter than that rat.
