I’ve only one comment to make and its about the podcast name.

With all the great names we gave in that other thread, this one is a bit… Choppy. It flows about as well as bricks.

I still think that the podcasts should be named after GW skills…

They have 2×2 conditions removed a 7 second aoe field thats 1 pre second, a phantasam thats 1-2 conditions from a ally (and 1-2 boons removed from a enemy), 3 conditions transfered back to you, 1 pre signet use, 1 pre heal (each of the mantra uses counts) and one that removes a condition from them pre shatter.

Thing is Mesmers can specialize with a few swaps to counter a each class, being deceptive (or hybrid) can cause most of them to panic – kitten probably really low level hotjoin trick, mesmers instantly assume you are condi necro if you have scepter instead of daggger or axe as your main weapon, so using it just for the cripple and mini feast burst instead of a stronger direct weapon for deception and swapping into DS for 2-3k hits from life blast is fun. especially since people dont bother with death logs).

Two sides of the same coin, both work great in each, just falls down to build.
For dungeons id go with mesmer if you want to carry/make the dungeon easier, necro if healz and tanking stuff with green-black blobs of tentacle mass
In wvwvw, both necro and mesmer fall flat in roaming (no combat mobility on necro and no speed boost on mesmer without really crippling builds and spamming one of your best skills for it), on zergs however well staff necros can pretty much drop, run away a bit, go get a cup of tea and probably get more bags than a person on a arrow cart, mesmers the same just that they need to chain their glamours and be higher level for traits (40 for necro ranged wells, 60+ for working mesmer glamour zerg killer).

2. Taric is the guardian equivalent in league, not cho, he is mine (yay for biased notes on grimlock and brits)

Professor Beard here, just wanted to say the reason I chose to say Cho-gath instead of some of the other support tanks in the game is that Cho has the aoe knock up and the aoe silence. I play guardians in a more control fashion, taric is a much more support/babysit role. Cho was a “get in the middle of the fight and cause havoc!” type champion for me.

Then we are playing the same thing (soldier necro with staff well control with DS focus), well more like a cho, vi, shyvana, thresh hybrid, dunk in, aoe chill blind poison, pull that annoying boss back to me and then feast, i mean lich his kitten into oblivion.
Then again i play like a omnicidal maniac in pretty much every game eve if i am allowed to what translates to the games where i get slightly ahead and turn cho as a anti-carry kill everything in sight with 274 ap and over 3k hp, 200+ resistances… or in gw2 the rest of the team dying while im slaughtering random trash mobs (or spending a hour and half killing a rizen fleshreaver in orr on a 4 level weaker mesmer just to forget about a date)…
My point was that taric can have the control if you build him that way (randuns or gauntlet late game and his stun from start – for guardian hammer and consecrations)/ if the team lets him (as in people dont kitten about guardians are monks they cant do anything but heal), but his ulti and aura are always there and always helpful so guardian virtues and shouts, guess each his own.

Nem put out a good healing guide for Clerics and Necro. It looked somewhat interesting from a team perspective, but compared to the ele or guardian version, it was pretty lack-luster. Also it was completely reliant on Lich form for DPS.

I don’t see any healing builds being viable until they allow either a little bit of healing or a little bit of life force generation to work while in DS. Do something about that and I will be the first one in line for a full set of clerics to try it out.

Difference between necro and other possible healers (except rangers) is that while the others can do bigger heals or a stronger burst, you can give one strong timed regenerative boost that is combined with the cc conditions necro naturally has, all on a 32 second cooldown and on that front only getting outshined if the ele has a energy sigil and the endurance regen food with perma vigor (what they can without real problems, but dont seem to for some reason) and when the guardian has his tome out.
The main difference again are that booning your allies is much more obvious than crippling your enemy damage output, in league its like comparing taric, soraka and sona to thresh, morgana and lulu; sure different and better teams will know what each of the characters worth its, but when someone who just wants to win by giving little thought into how each character works for fights, zone control, item/gold/item slot efficiency and actual love for the character/role they play (reason why you see something like 4 adc and 1 tank compositions in low tier games and angry junglers or support in higher tier games making them feel like a chore by not doing the specifics of the role even with communication and if asked politely, “since if they cannot get their role, thus their fun, noone should”).

God i really hope that people that read this know league or ill be the fool talking jibber-jabber…

It seems like a bug, as it is only in PvE/WvW, would seem a bit silly for them to have that kind of an inconsistency without it being a bug (but who knows I guess).

Well the combat log in PvE and WvWvW is pretty much useless while the death log in PvP describes everything that got you down despite it being the same engine…

Well necro with scepter focus can take on a healing ranger, problem is you find yourself in a stailmate till someone makes a mistake (DS takes care of pet damage, perma poison and corruption reduce renegen to nothing, but base heals + low over time damage from both = a GBA rpg 9999 hp wall hitting other 9999 hp wall for 1 damage and each heal for 10~20% at then end of each round with noone else in party to swap to)

Well that just clinches it lol, you really dont know how to be efficient in dungeons. I dont know why im argueing with someone whos probably never done a single speedrun of any dungeon other than cof p1.

Los to pull mobs into a small area is very useful. Yeah you dont put some bosses against walls but most you can, aslong as they are pulled before they get defiant stacks. GL has a pretty huge hit box and goes down really fast with 3 warriors, a mesmer and a guardian in melee for all 3 stages. Im unsure if whirlwind hits for the full amount on GL but it doesnt really matter seeing as warriors add huge amounts of damage to the group by applying vuln, fury and might along with the banners.

Pulling mobs is not line of sight, to line of sight something is using terrain to block specific attacks or mechanics of a fight (e.g. pillars in AC and CoE)
Stacking mobs to just aoe on doors is just a type of pull….

BTW – as said valkyre ele does more burst than Warrior, but since you really wanna hammer into people that they dont, here http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/elementalist/?1.0|8.1p.h2.8.1p.h1g|0.0.0.0.0.0|1p.71c.1p.71c.1p.71c.1p.71c.1p.71c.1p.71c|2v.d13.2t.d13.2v.d13.2t.d13.2v.d13.2v.d13|0.p67.0.f4.u1ab|39.1|1n.1r.1p.1q.28|e

Temporal curtain reflect only reflects low down projectiles or if you stand right next to it and the projectile arcs downwards. Its far from reliable. All the mesmer reflects are good but none of them are completely reliable. Feedback is by far their best reflect but it seems to bug on a few things which is unfortunate.

I was just pointing out that you dont know what your talking about because your idea of warrior damage is way off along with your obvious lack of knowledge with the guardian. Yes you only get whirlwind to hit 15 if its againt a wall but thats something the mesmer can be used for. Using temporal curtain to pull the mobs against a wall. My guildmates have repeatedly hit 15k on whirlwind when fighting against a wall which is almost every fight. Seeing as its the best way to burst down groups and bosses. How can you have done so many dungeons and not know that? I expect you will say you dont bother with los aswell….

TC reflects eveything going to you when you stand behind it thats all i care about.
Now tell me how will you get a boss like the flame legion tribune, husk, experimental subject, most Arah bosses and everything that is stationary to stick to a wall so that you dont just slide trough them doing half of the damage you expect?
Not that its not a good trick (and goldy if you somehow manage to get yourself immobilized on the enemy during it), but you cannot cound it as a reliable form of damage (no matter if you wanna count it as burst or sustained, if it relies on dodgy mechanics exploitation its not reliable).
And actually no i dont bother with Line of sight outside of random spvp matches because good positioning, dodge, death shroud and actual fight setups allow you not to care (not to say i wont go behind a pillar to finish a longer cast like Signet of Undeath/rez someone/drop lock on, its just using it when you can do it the way the dungeon is supposed to be run and losing less efficiency is pointless).

Warrior can hit 30k with hundred blades and 15k with whirlwind. Then switch to axe + mace and keep high sustained dps until 100b is back off cooldown with fast hands. Guardians reflect and projectile absorption can be much more useful than the mesmers in some situations. For example the grawl fractal, a guardian uses wall of reflection when the elementals spawn, the group stand behind the wall and the elementals kill themselves. The guardian can also use the spirit shield to provide the group with another safe spot from the elementals and he can use binding blades to pull the elementals together so they can be aoe or cleaved down quickly.

Feedback just doesnt work as well seeing as you have to place it on a target and when you put it on the grawl boss it doesnt reflect his arrows because its too low down. Mesmers are mostly picked in dungeons for timewarp to increase dps, but they also provide the group with a little extra utility (which often isnt needed). Also guardians dont need a high hp pool if you use a set of knights armour. The toughness is more than enough to absorb most boss attacks and survive. I play both a mesmer and a guardian in high level dungeons on a regular basis. I think i know what im talking about. And your point about other mmo’s. Gw2 isnt one of those other mmo’s so thats a completely irrelevant point.
Just like to mention feedback also doesnt work on all projectiles. It seems to fail on Old tom’s poison projectiles in the harpy fractal and it doesnt stop the boons from reaching the golem in CoE. Whereas the guardians spirit shield works amazingly on both and the wall works on the boon golem aswell.

a) Warrior without ranged weapon in fractals? Fail… (and if you wanna go trollish all melee sword/axe does more damage)
b) Full exotic 25 might all crit whirlwind is 9.3k (you can exploit chilled, cripple, immobilize and walls to get more procs off, but most bosses give you 2 procs, 3-4 if you go with the likes of lupi, ice ele, mining suit increasing the damage to around 11k or the amount you mentioned but for that you have to whirlwind from behind into the way the boss is running). So no even in a optimal situation you cannot have a guaranteed 15k burst from whirl.
c) Temporal Curtain, Mimic (single target, but it acts as a mini barrier letting you reflect back even homing projectiles that locked onto other people after you ate 1 projectile to shoot back), Phantasmal Warden, Shattering and if you really wanna go in deep activating signets all reflect projectiles. Also Curtain can pull all said grubs in grawl fractal together letting the necro well transfer kill them (or plague tank if someone is downed). Feedback on high projectiles got fixed a while ago (thats why i got sad on the Lich form post when i mentioned that you could use liches elevated projectile launch to avoid feedback bubbles).
d) So? Thats what i said guardians do get more effective hp when geared… i dont get what you ment with that point so moving on…
e) Every mmo… no, every game with dungeons and bosses works that way, point stands valid and dont start going with the kitten about “gw2 is the evolution of mmos” its still the same old thing only with a better combat and quest system, hell BoC had a better storyline than GW2 (sad, but true)
f) Old Toms poison cannot be technically reflected by direct skills (that applies to the guardian bubbles too), but all skills that technically destroy projectiles (Warden and Mimic) still do, so your point is just as true as it is pointless.
For Mark TotalBiscuit whatever numbers it is after it golem, you can just destroy the boon generators if they are a problem just as with the shaman in HotW… In fact its much easier because you dont have to worry about someone popping skills so that you dont hit yourself on the enemy for 3k pre chain of attacks.

Punish for removing our conditions?

How about this, if a condition with 5 or more stacks (or 5s+ duration remaining) was removed the remover of the condition loses 2 boons and is feared for 1 second (pre 3 seconds/5 stacks); cannot be proced on same target more than once pre 15 seconds.
Provides control, damage if traited and forces choice on who removes conditions.

I don’t even know if a shred of what Andele said is true, but kitten is it convincing.

You can look up everything i mentioned on youtube videos of long term GW players/general mmo guys like Woodenpotatoes, Dontain, GuildWarsBuddy, MattVisual, etc.
I did kinda downplay the worth of a good Shout guardian and Maxe/Shield & Hammer warrior in fractals, but thats pretty much because its a build specific thing, like saying necros, rangers (ok kinda true here because a-net still wont let me stow pets in combat making jade maw more rng than skill and gear if you wanna speed run it), mesmers and engies cannot run fractals because their summons/pets get in the way and sometimes tend to cause more damage to the team than they do the entire fight.

Btw i have played and leveled each profession at least to level 40 (be it beta or right now) and have 3 fully build and setup characters in terms of personal expirience and about 30 runs worth of 20+ fractals with different setups (3 of them being 30+ despite not having the agony to technically do them, yay for ds and soul marks abuse) and god knows how many dungeon runs of AC and CoF, quite the TA and SE runs and some CM and CoE ones in terms of pugging viability.

Last note, the order of efficiency is in no way representative of the skill worth pre player on class and since most dungeon mechanics aint based on something class specific/you can control by facerolling on keyboard, the best GW2 thief in the world would be worth kitten on a necro if he didnt know and/or have a good feel how to play the class and have fun/be interested in doing so.

By your idea of guardians then i dont think you how to do any high level dungeons properly. Guardians provide huge amounts of reflect and projectile absorption. Stability, condition removal, sustained heals, and an anchor to take aggro or res people safely. Warriors out burst and outsustain damage both theives and eles in dungeons. Mesmers are very good for utility but are weak to conditions so they can be quite vulnerable in high level fractals unless you have good guardians to keep them alive. So imo guardians are probably second, mesmers third, warriors first. Because dps is that important to do dungeons effectively. The faster you kill a boss the less time you have to spend avoiding damage.

If you would have played any of the true old mmos (aka MUDs) you would know efficiency > single strength and that DPS means kitten all if you die before you can do it.
The difference between a guardian and a mesmer in a group is that the mesmer has 40% more effective hp with that he can work with on base (that is flipped if the mesmer goes the standard knights cleric combo every fractal guardian should run with 10 in valor and virtues and 15 in honor and radiance).
Guardian heals are over time what has a net lower worth in dungeons because mobs dont have sustained small hit attacks but high damage burst hits, their projectile reflection is weaker than both the mesmers (having up to 7 ways to both protect and reflect not just destroy projectiles in selective aoes) and even the thiefs (smoke screen in itself as a smoke field is worth more than both the retaliation and the healing bubble guardians have). Still guardians selling points are aegis spam (being one of the top damage migration ways) and shouts (and maybe the bow heal that is about as good as the necro transfusion invigoration combo).

A valkyre ele does a 65~70k burst on a legendary in 10 seconds, warriors do 10~15k with 100b rotations in 5 seconds. now tell me which one is higher?
A full zerker backstab thief holds a dps of 5-6k, warriors get to 4k (again boss/legendary standard)
The selling points of warriors for dungeons are banners, highest base defensive stats and their boon uptime, not the sheer damage.

All condition damage in fractals can be dodged (and in most cases must be) or have a mechanic of avoidance (rp running in grawl fractal, control stacking in snow, actual communication in naked blue man golem group and swamp, etc) Also necros and engies have better aoe condition control (including cases of conditions on a ally) with higher uptime than guardians… Hell just Plague signet/Elixir gun takes care of what all consecrations together could.

If you wanna to the efficient dungeon run thing, Necromancers in dungeons should either be rampagers (full hybrid glass cannons) or soldier knights/any kind of precision that brings it to 10% since the points give a high amount of damage return) and their worth is and always will be permachill, epidemic, timed burst heals and high blind/weakness uptime (boon stripping being a kinda neat addition you can swap a utility on both mesmers and necros). Also being the only class that can run 50 and higher jade maw and survive without using the downed exploit via death shroud.

Id say necro is probably the 4th best class in dungeons but everyone hates on them because they arent one of the optimum 3 classes.

2nd best, 1 being held by Mesmer for time warp+glamours, with how the dungeons currently work being able to heal a zerker warrior, valkyre ele or any kind of crit/backstab spam thief from 10% to 90% (or from 10% to 35% if not specced for healing) while having perma chill and high blind/weakness upkeep is insane.

Warriors are the best in pve. Guardians are better than necro’s in most dungeons because of utility.

Warriors bring dps, everything else takes up time or efficiency, but even so a ele can outdamage them in terms of burst and a thief does better sustained damage, its a hybrid of the 2 + on demand immunity with quickness that makes warriors good in pve, but if you actually ask any better warrior youll quickly discover that their worth isnt that high.
Guardians give a good amount of boons, true, but outside of aeigs spam and the defensive tome there is little they can continously do, with their healing being outdone by ele, ranger, necro and engie while warriors can tank just as much as them while still being stronger in terms of dps.
Both classes efficiency is way lower than a necros.
List would be: Mesmer, Necro, Ele, Warrior, Ranger, Engie, Guardian, Thief.

Minion Builds viable for Instances?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

They don’t pull any more mobs than normal. The issue is they die immediately to any form of aoe. MM is not viable in dungeons or fractals ever.

Ignore this completely, as it was written by a player with no concept of reality. Minions are not only viable in every dungeon they are extremely powerful, fun, and your survival goes way up. Carry the bone fiend, bone minions, flesh wurm, and Flesh Golem. Check out the all minion videos on my signature connecting to YouTube.

The only place minions are not viable are high end tournament play and wvwvw zergs. Minions do not die to every single aoe in the game unless you are dumb enough to not take the necessary traits and/or stack all your minions right next to the boss. Also your bone minions should be used as fodder to blow things up.

There are three different main ways to run minions, staff support, soldier bunker, and my personal favorite berzerker axe, all are viable in dungeons and are a world of fun. I have numerous videos, and there are at least 5 to 6 Necros I can name off hand that run minions in dungeons regularly, and at least one or two who run them in Fractals.

Any claim as to their viability due to early deaths in dungeons are shortsighted and made by players with no experience or proof of the matter.

So just being able to name a handfull of people who agree with you is proof ?
Well I can name 7 people who disagree. So I guess you are wrong, right ?

I’m just wondering .. do you happen to work for fox news ? Your post strongly reminds me of their style of argumentation..
“You disagree with us ? You’re a liberal communist unicorn who hates america !”

Talking about being short sighted while splurting such nonsense is kinda ironic don’t you think.

As for the viability of minions I think it doesn’t matter what build you run as long as you don’t want to do speed runs or stuff like that, because face it. Nothing can beat
3 warriors + guardian and mesmer.

4 warrior 1 mesmer and 3 warrior 1 ele 1 mesmer beat 3 warrior 1 guardian 1 mesmer setup for speedruns and despite how much i hate minions in GW2, i have to say that unless you are talking about some “hardcore” stuff cough arah; 20+ fractals or doing CoE/TA with people that never did it minions do work.
He is technically right, but just as his middle name, Bas is kinda trolling the point by putting the word Powerful (they are just above generic/medicore at their best, Wells>Lich being the only true powerful burst necros have) and the words play Minions+Fractals together (its like saying Phantasams+ Fractals, Turrets+Fractals or Spirits+Fractals) thus either being a troll for the group or… well the friends doing fractals without agony.

Also about the nonsense, do check some of the BoC (all necro guild) videos/podcasts and you will notice some all minion runs or at least one person with them and they do kitten.

I actually really REALLY like the options I have as a necro. When playing my human, I am a noble, suave, sophisticated, and full of dark power. The waistcoats and "frilly" stuff serve to mark my noble birth AND to recognize that it is controlled, unemotional power that I wield.
And the looks of minions? I don’t make them to be nice-looking, I make them to be functional. Who has the time to find a complete corpse with a weapon? I’d rather just pull whatever parts my magic can find in the area. Rats are perfect because I want them to sneakily run to an enemy and explode, not run into the sword of an enemy and die. Devourer corpses are perfect for range, a skeletal archer would be hard to find the material for and then I’d have to supply him with a bow and arrows. No think you, the tail-darts do nicely.
And excuse me, lower classes, perhaps you do not understand what lying and subterfuge are. Oh sure, I help my friends, or the organizations that is trying to save the world I happen to live upon, but my intentions are far from altruistic. By infiltrating the organizations and playing along, I learn all I need to avoid them or take the down AND I get pawns to help me clear the current threat and make way for my inevitable rule. Never use more than one stone to kill two birds if you can help it.

And then there’s my charr. Who loves necromantic magic for the holy abilities it gives him to heal and protect his friends. He wears the feathered get-up colored gold and white. Wells of healing and protection support his team while he chills and cripples the ones who try and run from justice.

Honestly, I don’t feel this is true. I believe this is just what we keep telling ourselves to make us feel better about the current state of necromancers. There is only so much you can do with 10 skills plus 4 from DS. I really believe this is a problem with game mechanics that are holding us back. I can pretty much pick up any class without any prior experience and still do better on it than I can currently on my necromancer, and I’ve been playing necromancer since release.

I know ill rot in hell for it, but thats mostly because we still dont use DS correctly, holding onto my build with 30 Into SR i kinda just noticed a week ago (since im currently also leveling a mesmer in pve) how much i could really dowith the stability and hp swap that gets every other class killed (well except full defensive speced warriors and guardians) that isnt just cheating on mechanics in encounters and jumping puzzles.

1. Epic username (yay for girl on girl action – those that get japanese im sorry yes i know its not correct but its still a good pun imo)
2. Have you played a Blood battery touch Necro/Dervish (was pretty unpopular since you couldnt do kitten solo and relied on the Ele wards, but still cool in pve), if you ever did the current necro shouldnt be any problem to you since its baseline is still efficiency, not specialization or direct power (despite how much we all miss AEchoed SS to melt 40 charr at once for farming)
3. I know this is no fix, but if you had fun with the curses restoration N/Rit variation of Discordway, you will love the mesmer, they and necros are kinde two sides of the same coin in GW2 (just as guardians and eles; rangers and warriors)
4. With all that said, GW2s combat system is quite a lot different than GWs, that must be in mind when asking for changes and im pretty sure that changing our wells and overall abilites to be even more reactive with their effects than passive would pretty much destroy the necro (except minions) because of the high cast times, cooldowns and lack of steady zone control outside of staff (moving it from a highly recommended weapon to pretty much limiting the necro to only 1 weapon set or you are kitten).

Well its pretty common to have Energy on the Staff as a necro so its a so so thing, the main necro weaknesses is in fact lack of mid combat mobility (Dark path being the only mobility skill that isnt a utility – i dont count locust swarm on WH because its a waste if used for swiftness and it often hits invisible/in ground objects slowing you to base speed either way).
DS in itself is a great damage migration tool, as is our plethora of chill/weakness/blind applications and fear for interrupts.
Guardians and warriors have to go deep into defensive setups to be able to tank as much as a necro on a baste level, but if they do go all out for damage migration they are way better than full defensive necros.

All I take from this vid is…

1. Voice chat groups are far better than text chat groups.
2. DON’T stand in a choke point. EVER, unless you want to be a loot bag.
3. Siege is overrated. They were still using siege after the gate was down. A might stacked group that raced up the ramp would have wiped the defenders.
4. There are so many offensive and defensive moves that attackers could have done to make this an easy wipe…………

Fire fields for might, water fields for heal, light fields for retaliation, hammer warriors/guardians for hard CC, feedback, wells, veil, portal bomb, any kind of organized attack plan using the people in your group would have cleared that tower in seconds.

Think about it this way. 7 elite eles vs 50 bad players. Do they have a chance? Yes. The skill ceiling is high enough.

7 elite necros vs 50 bad players. Do they have a chance? No chance at all. The skill ceiling is just too low.

First off, if the zerg facing the 7 necros is as dumb as this one and dont bullrush with 10 on 1 (since aoe limit is 5) then yes the necros will win (especially if its 3+ well necros and 3 plague forms with it).
Second, Golem charge hits like a treb on doors.

And Ele’s just control elements, and Mesmer’s just control illusions, all use magic, great now everyone dresses the same.

Who said it had to be goth/emo, dry bones is not goth nor emo per se, but it does evoke death. The stuff Necros are knee deep in. Variety is the spice of life, and that’s all people want. They have half a dozen armors that fit into ’going to the ball’ but not enough befitting a war-mage, going out into dark and dangerous places in the world and battling for their lives, regardless of what magic the class might practice. Several of the light sets look like they should be town clothes tbh. People want to look the part, and should not be shoe horned into one person’s interpretation of it.

Here’s a concept of our "Lich Form":http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/d/d9/Dhuum.jpg, more armor similar to this would be good.

Same issue with legendaries, not much to choose from a traditional Necro looking perspective. I don’t even want to pursue one because they are not aesthetically pleasing to the professions theme. Warriors get a choice, a dark sword or a light sword. Variety, nice.

A) thats Dhuum *kitten slap* Dont insult him.
B) Google Wraith Lord GW2, then compare it to our lich form and youll get where it got the design from.

If you don’t mind I’d like to give some constructive criticism.

I watch / listen to podcasts and interviews from Joe Rogan and Howard Stern and I find them incredibly interesting and even addicting at times.

From what I’ve noticed, they don’t follow a set list of talking points as strictly as you guys do. If you let the topics stray off it leads to a more natural conversation and a better flow of information.

If you don’t have a technical limitation, don’t be afraid to go over an hour in length. Rogan’s podcast sometimes goes up to 3 hours long because it’s just interesting conversations where he doesn’t cut off the little side tangents. They make your guest more comfortable and makes everything more interesting.

I’ve noticed that around the 50min mark you and your guests get comfortable with each other and makes it a lot more enjoyable to listen to, and a lot of good game points get addressed. It becomes great to listen to and then you start cutting off great content for the sake of it going over an hour long.

Howard Stern makes his guests feel comfortable right off the bat and he fires off questions from all over the place and he makes it to where only an hour works, but he is also the best in radio and is the reason he got 100million dollar deal.

This is just my opinion but I think you guys have started a really good thing and would like to see it improve. I think a more lax, loose, and longer podcast would turn this pretty decent podcast into something great. Also I would like to hear more input from bahb, a 3 way convo is more entertaining.

Hope you guys take this into consideration

A few counter points:
a) While it is good to let a topc wander around and sometimes derail, its kinda needed to hold a “list” of not so strict lines how a podcast goes (kinda like the siskel and ebert reviews used to be)
b) Youtube analitics show that unless its a special case, general attention span of long videos before closing or skipping is up to hour and 20 minutes, also time constrains of the people in question.
c) Noone likes Bhawb, he is the Jaggered horror of the podcast (jk ofc, its just that there is no set banter/play off roles that they could do for now, like a Straight Man and Wise Guy routine – mostly since Bas plays of both parts).

Finally got to listen to the whole thing. I think you should stay in DS is for the mount of LF that you can regen in 10 seconds. And then you times that by two.

For example let’s say your build is heavily LF regenerating and you can confident you can regain 30% of the LF in 10 seconds. 30% times 2 is 60%. So you should stay in DS until your total LF reaches 40%.

If your build is weak in LF regeneration and you can only regen maybe 10% over 10 seconds, then you should stay in DS only until your total LF reaches 80%.

The plan is to slowly wear down the enemy, though your LF regen and health regen.

Of course, this only applies if your character can survive for 10 seconds without DS. If you are a glass cannon you will need to use DS longer, probably until it reaches zero. You cannot play that attrition game.

I won’t bother waiting for that 1.99 sec timer thing. That requires you to keep an eye out on your LF bar constantly. Your attention is better used elsewhere, specially in wvw with so much going on.

Unless you are eating a burst, you should never stick around in DS past the 50% point, DPS drop isnt worth it.

No way! Less animation , the harder class for opponens. I mean if they make new animation for necro. and the opposent team in pvp will easily see what necro is doing, so that is realy bad. For example marks – casting marks will play allway the same animation, so enemy never know what mark are you casting, and thats good.

Well unless the necro is 1200 away, all necro animations are pretty clear… hell we have the identical animation for our strongest skills (aka handwave around in the air then pull the hand down) and our channels have the same ballet pose. We aint Thieves that only have a minior change on their body animation pre skill use/attack with all spells being the same black smoke poof.

May i note original liches posess a 2 traits, first off, Deathless vigor – as in you are more healthy in your lich form than in origin race (mostly because you are part wizard/nerdy as we all are thus not even close to what would one call the alpha prime of physical natural selection) that also counted as additional +4 to your armor class (unless you had mystical blood in your veins but thats another story), second Undead Toughness what is pretty much pumping a undead full of ecto cooler (if you dont know what im talking about right now you have never truly lived or been rezed back) giving a massive multiplier to damage done and damage reduction if he doesnt have a Phylactery (as in the necros soul is still inside him). So no the GW2 lich is actually quite accurate *even with the lack of a lower body (seriously give the guys and girls… something… i mean its embarrassing to walk around and sit with a giant hole under your skirt that everyone can see), chains Fear aura and Phylactery (that is mandatory to actually create a Lich), but since both of the last 2 mentioned were actually in game and then removed because of op factor… well cant say im happy but i do understand.

b) they are panzy necro-guardi-ele-hief-smers with salad as their head that had kinda sorta a deep storyline but then generalization turned them into idiots and kinda sorta ruined a big part of the plot.
c) british liches that dont give a kitten narf and take over the world! (que nations of the world by yakko) or at least africa and then say screw the world even the living representations of chaotic negative emotions and desires in forms of (not so)giant dragons are afraid to step on my lawn.

Andele.1306

Due to the subjective nature of the question, there is no right answer… If mesmers could only heal, and necromancers could only do damage… mesmers would say that without their healing the necromancers would never survive to do the damage therefor they are more important. Necromancers would then claim that all the healing in the world would not kill you the monsters in a dungeon therefor clearly they are the most important.

Problem is the paradox is still true, even in gw2 despite how its hidden, a condition application character is helping the burst crit dps with chill and weakness, a boon spammer with aoe healing is doing the same, helping dps, if they werent there he would probably die at least 4-5 more times than when they are there; on the other hand if there were no dps chara thats doing the damage the condition and booner would stick there for about 2 to 3 times as long making the fight just as annoying, everyone is just as important for the goal.

Wow, you could really use epidemic as a mesmer? Are you sure that it wasn’t a necro on your team that could have done it and you got those badges by yourself?
I always thought that the currupt “projectile” had certain properties that a usual one doesn’t. Like dark path could teleport you to a different target if that one intercepted the flying hand by standing in the way. Could this happen to corrupt boon too?

It is a one off (since you can only echo once after mimic) and yes i am sure since i wasnt in a party, didnt have any aoes at the time that do any damage (and doubt that scepter clones could tag that many people since they blow up in a milisecond while in a zerg), also the damage numbers popping up and being visible on my screen like a rain of white.
Unlike most projectile reflections Mimic into Echo actually stores the projectile and then lets you “cast” it so no i dont know if you can actually reflect Corrupt boon or Epidemic, but i know that if you manage to hit a mesmer thats curled up in a ball, he might Epidemic or Corrupt boon you back.

I had this one idea floating around, making SArmor a passive… plain a passive 10% (15% while Attunement) damage reduction and 1% LF when hit for more than 5% (3% while Attunement) of hp that then instead turns into additional 5% reduction while in DS.
Each of the other “attrition/hp survival” classes have one of the reduction signets or effects (and all 3 have a 6 second immortality to damage pre 90 seconds, but that would be op in combo of DS).

Engineers can do most things, just not as well as other classes.

Necros can do most things, just not as good as other classes and for twice as long! So there!

Problems with those statements is it doesnt explain how each class works with it, engies can build into anything, necros by nature have a bit of everything and unlike on a engie where you then have to focus other traits and build around what aspects you want to be good at, you can pretty much go random kitten on necro traits and still only have little difference in damage while losing nothing in efficiency (except maybe if you got 20 into dm, but thats the reanimator is useless problem not class weakness).

In a RPG Necros would be the enemy turned friend like magus in Chrono trigger, having high base stats thust being good at everything (if you want to) but never really moving away from that point/you cannot specialize and be truly great, while engies are Chrono, you decide what to build and it will kinda work with other aspects being basic (not good just basic).
Classes by general setup would be: ~
Necro – Mighty Glacier/Dangerous Forbidden Technique(aka lich),
Guardian – Bruiser/Why Won’t You Die?,
Ele – Healing Lightning Bruiser,
Warrior – Glass Cannon or Stone Wall/Crippling Overspecialization,
Mesmer – Inverse Law Of Complexity To Power/Crippling Overspecialization,
Theif – Fragile Speedster, Conservation of Ninjutsu
Engie – Inverse Law of Utility and Lethality/Explosive Overclocking (if going for damage)
Ranger – Why Won’t You Die?(healer)/The Chessmaster(trappe/spirit)

Leveling necromancer

Andele.1306

Go with what i did on release, Staff, Scepter/Dagger with minion utilites to around 50~60, crafting powerlevel to 75 and then give orr a new meaning of death; with wells (farming too). Took a total of 29 hours to level up (but that was counting some starting zergs on champions and the old rez and ore xp so it would take around 40~50 now). Necros are probably the easiest class to level up since minions can solo pretty much everything in the first half of the game by chain spawning them and spamming scepter or staff 1 depending on enemy.

For fun id go with Axe in pve (not only do minions do more damage with vuln but also seeing mobs hit themself on you after a 5 pull like a bull trying to ram down a steel pillar is quite kitten and unlike dagger you dont have to be melee, not to mention that till 40 the difference in damage is minior) and staff with 10 in DM in WvWvW (dem tags).

DS/Class Mechanics

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

As for how I would improve things: the biggest issue with necromancer’s life force is that they’ve sacrificed so much control and defensive abilities to get it. In PVP and when fighting bosses in PVE, Deathshroud in no way compares to something like vigor or reflection skills or blocking skills. The best thing I think that can be done for DS is to have skills that generate Life Force be more plentiful or have the skills that already do generate lifeforce do it better. That way, the PVP and boss weakness of DS not being around when you need it is resolved.

That is the major problem with DS now, and such a simple fix, but apparently one that isn’t taken into consideration. You hit the nail so squarely on the head with this post it made my teeth hurt. Only other thing I would like to see is a condition form of shroud and it would pretty much wrap it up.

May i give you a look back at BWE2… also known as shroud tanks 5 people, never goes under 50% LF…
My gripe is that Physical attacks hit ds like 2 to 4 times as hard as they would your real hp with it being only around 60%~ of your hp, Now if soul reaping actually turned the 100% max LF into 130% max LF…. Also life blast 50% LF damage drop needs to go away.

C'mon Devs, give us Necros some gear.

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

Besides, there exist Shaman gear already, which has healing power instead of vitality, and effectively means the same thing in a fight (instead of higher starting HP you just effectively get it via healing). If that is balanced, I can’t see how CTV wouldn’t be.

For point b, that would be your own fault. If you are going to equip CTV gear, then you should be able to figure out you won’t be dealing any damage to structures.

Remeber condi and healing aint primary attributes, making it sub par for a condi build a CTV if going by soldier setup would make it the best setup for conditions, unless you put one of the defensive stats as primary and in that case… why bother? As you mentioned Shammy does the same but with healing instead of a higher hp cap (and we 2 heals that are in the top 5 of the game).

For the second point, you know yourself that people would and will still kitten about conditions not doing damage to objects, actually doinkittenage to it on a damage based build would just cause more outrage. Not that im against getting a CTV set of gear, its just that noone is really thinking like a devil’s advocate for the gear perspective. Most setups of stats can already be done with gear in game (knights zerker combo being most popular).

In theory, the support skills (shortest cooldown instant rez, amazing tanking with plague form, epidemic, corrupt boon,) that a necro has can be extremely powerful when paired up with a practiced, communicating team of other players of equal competence.

In theory. I have yet to find such a thing myself.
