but they don’t.

Exactly.

rangers don’t have a better rez

Tech seen both rangers and warriors have a better rez, to be exact massive aoe buffing rezzes in their elite slot.

While i do agree that we are great in terms of chilling (can hold permachill on someone with ease); you know you cant list as if we have 30/30/30/30/30 and everything traited for in every setup… that is single build that not everyone can follow (unlike lets say guardian, thief or mesmer class mechanics that are ensured and combine with their kits we cant have that overall trait strength).. Also SG does not work from range, even mobs run out of it, it is however a great melee knockdown.

Given the HP of the grubs, at best you are going to help take out the grubs, not take out 4-7 on your own with the well, but WOS is very good against them especially after they have clumped. And rampagers doesn’t have an issues with AOE, it is superior (at least in my opinion) to a PVT/Knights build.

EDIT: And now that I think about it…. I have used it on Lupicus in Arah before and his model is way above the bubble, but it still reflects back on him… so I believe it is okay.

I think i phrased that wrong, one utility ofc wont solo kill multiple mobs, but WoS will do the damage it takes to make them easy pickings; given a 10% damage increase. 700 damage ticks and general aoe count a necro has, you can go for either of the roles (grub slaughter or shield pop).

About the Feedback (dont know how its now since i didnt pick it up while leveling my mesmer – profession i didnt play since beta), i know Lich and Fire Elementals used to be pretty much immune to it because of how the dome field worked with projectiles that start on elevation, thus i kinda assumed it still worked like that.

Last but not least ofc Rampagers is superior in terms of damage to defensive setups, its mostly personal preference on how much you like to facetank stuff (and how many risks of going melee with a light armor class you wanna take). Id never say a Soldier Dagger Necro can do more dps than a Rampager, just that the Rampager will probably die instantly if caught out of place, but the Soldier wont.

So for Grawl, you have two mesmers, and with both of them running feedback, and the reflect traits on their wardens/veils, it should be very easy to group up around the mesmers (dodging the firestorm), and just reflect back all the bolts he shoots out. The Iwardens will do this passively when they are up.

Isnt the feedback bubble lower than the Shamman projectile start location (same as with Lich)?

As a power necro in this situation, I found my AOE to be very lacking, in a fight where the grubs need to die faster, though you are able to break the shamn bubble fast with axe. Also both dagger/axe, put you so close to the boss it is very hard to dodge the bolt, unless you can recognize the tell.

One WoS takes care of 4-7 grubs depending on team coordination in plain pvt gear, thus rampager shouldnt really have a problem with aoe damage, especially if later combined with either Scepter/Dagger or Axe/Focus aoe skills (2/5 and 3/4 respectively).

6% additional crit chance makes the SR tree instantly worth it (10% total), no need for more since its worth is more in DS and the traits (10 power pre 10% LF, a 60 second cd Spectral armor and the nice increase in LF gain).
Using D1+WH5 instead of another set can solo chip down the shammy shield in a couple of seconds letting your friends focus on the grubs, also you can immobilize the shielded shammy, remember to mention that (engie should setup the net turret and thumper turret in the middle on shammy boss).
Also 10 points into blood (20 if you use 3/4 wells) to pick up transfusion is well worth it, its a good source of aoe healing for your allies while picking off the svanir/grubs(dont use it while boss has shield up unless you are on grub duty)/4 boss rooms/etc
Overall it should be one of the easier fights in fractals if people remember that you dont have to all swarm the boss (just throw underwater nets/immobilize and let 1 or 2 person chip him with fast weapons/attacks) and instead aoe the grubs. Also using RP walk instead of running can allow for better zone control/less aoe fire hurting your allies.

Source of info: 1.3k play time since release, id say 80% of it on necro with my 20/0/0/20/30 build and getting thrown into a 38 fractal when i had just 5 AR one time and going trough it getting 6 achivements and with 0 deaths (sadly 5 downs).

For a necro, while on land, you only have combo fields, that are your wells, available all the time, as light or dark fields. Staves, however, have a blast finisher and and a poison finisher on the marks.

On water, however, you have whirl/projectile finishers with the spear and projectile/blast on the trident. No combo fields, however.

MM vs Well for PVE/Dungeons

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

This is a basis of perception over reality. Players who came from GW1 have a misperception of what a minion is based on their past experience with them. This is not the same thing. Minions are not a core design of the necro they are a special unique utility skill. They are supposed to die, they do their job.

I think that people that played a nice bit of GW1 (as myself) do know and actually used the minion bomber build (one of the kinda situational but in most cases op as hell builds for pve) it was summon kitten-death nova it, bile enemy, let anything die, watch kitten explode in chain reaction, repeat after resummoning via jbones and/or bone minions, optional blood bond cast (aoe heal for allies upon enemy dying) if you actually care.
The problem is the cast times and the limited count of minions that GW1 players hate.

Im surprised at the lack of poison on Necros; we have scepter chain 3 giving 2 seconds, chillbains/poison fields, corrosive cloud and signet of spite. Kind of wish I had rolled a human necro for the elite Grenth form. But Id like some sort of trait to add more poison options (maybe spectral skills applying it? spectral walk/armor having a small aoe poison)

This is the one I feel most. When “high access to poison” was mentioned in the necromancer’s class overview, but not in the thief’s, I choked on my drink a little.

Except the obvious Scepter 1, there is CPC, Plague, Chillblains (Lich and DS used to have poison effects too but they got removed/revamped if traited all sacrifice skills used to have it if i remember right). Theif got it on just as many sources 4. So its not like they have vastly superior poisoning, but it is correct that the a-net devs have no idea what a necro kit has when compared to others.

I do not like to try and compare classes since I honestly think classes like Guardian and Warrior are utterly broken and need to be fixed. I actually do not WANT to be as insane as they are and would rather they be toned down to force more teamwork and not relying on ridiculous buffs and damage from a couple of classes.

Valkyre Ele>Zerker Warrior in terms of broken (warriors in general are only slightly above necros, trading their utility for brute force, kinda like a comparing how cool a turian- necro- is to a krogan- warrior- in mass effect, both kitten, but in different parts).
The actual “broken” thing that they have perma protection and regen, not actual class power.

I was talking more specifically for a pure support build though…. in that case, imo, having a buffed staff is more important than offensive traits. The only one that I could agree on getting is Weakening Shroud since Weakness is a great condition for support.

Path of midnight allows for more Dark Paths (Chill), Doom and Life Transfers (can squeeze a additional pre miniboss and 3-4 pre real boss). Mobs in general dont have complicated movement patterns to require the greater marks (and they aint big enough to cover people at range) making perma regen on melee and faster cond removal give more net benefits. But overall as with most builds going by gut feeling is usually the best (good build with a playstyle that doesnt fit the player does worse most of the time than a “bad” one that fits the player) and it does make sense, thus its viable.

I myself run with a “semi-static” guild group and we care about personal and group performance. When we decide to bring any of our characters to a dungeon, the very first question we ask ourselves and each other is “What can this profession and build bring to the party?” This way we push our builds harder, find ways that our particular profession can make a dungeon or encounter that much easier. Warrior? Pure unmitigated glory in damage. Guardian? God-like support. Mesmer? Swiss Army Knife. Elementalist? Heals, cleanses and permanent 25 stacks of Might.

Necromancer?

Something that i wanted to mention on my turn was but ran out of time, we can solo most fractal tricks with DS: half of underwater dark path, corrupt the jellyfish and our sink ignoring defiant, solo the ice wall on the svanir one and can jump from the top down via ds/spectral walk tricks and life transfer him from the safe spot when he is up on the ledge for group heal, during jade maw using Swalk to port back with crystals to the group location if they run out and the tentacles didnt respawn yet, use minions to keep chanters on one side busy while shattering the other seal on the big naked blue guy fractal. use DS to get past the lazor stairs in uncategorized, making it easier for the rest of the group to get past, trick the swamp walls with flesh wurm to port with the whisp to the tree, etc… Not to mention that DS is epic in higher level fractals eating 2-4 ticks for free, so giving you a net 10-15 free AR if full.

in terms of real pvp i only hotjoin from time to time…

Love it when people say “real pvp” as in fact sPvP is anything but “real pvp”. How is it that sPvP is real pvp? From my years of MMO pvp is player vs player. And by that one means killing another player vs pvE which is killing a mob. sPvP in GW2 can have very little about killing someone else. As long as you can prevent the other team from standing in a circle longer than your team does you win. You don’t have to kill them to achieve this. Same with WvW as objective of that is to kill a mob in the end then stand in a circle to timer counts down.

So saying sPvP is “real pvp” is just not true.

PvP not PKing, big difference, everyone who remembers or knows MMO history for about 17 years knows why WvWvW cannot count as true Player vs Player (hell even some of the maps tech seen cant because of secondary objective strength).

While that would be incredibly entertaining, I don’t see them doing that when we already have Grasp, I find it more likely that they would make Grasp more reliable before giving us a new skill that has almost the exact same utility.

Or just make grasp a forced shadowstep to you instead of projectile drag, we would lose our krait RP power, but it would still be one of the best things they could do with it.

Still I wanna hear why lich and not plague.

Actually on some bosses in Arah (Grenth Wraith) and most Golem bosses, you wanna swap plague to lich, the boon and condition strip from 5 is really nice and since you dont apply conditions there are no healing/aggro problems that could pop up.
Also you can knock around adds with winds if they get too close.

If you are doing a pure support build then I am going to just flat say that staff is required along with greater marks and cooldown reduction. It is too important for the diverse utility it brings to NOT make it better through traits.

*hint hint* Staff is incredibly strong as it is, the 20% CDR trait is nice, but greater marks is training wheels in PvE (but mandatory in WvWvW and PvP ofc); Weakning Shroud and Path of Midnight in total bring more than Greater marks does (the CDR being on par with them, but SR and Curses bring better minior traits).

So far it seems interesting and I may grab the gear for it and give it a try to see what it is like for myself.

Shammy and Clerics are both great picks, but a necro can be a good support even in zerker gear (it does waste WoBs potential, but Protection on wells and transfusion are really strong on their own). Might i suggest 0/20/10/20/20 if on a power setup and 0/30/10/30/0 if with conditions.

50% of the classes in this game have no chance to escape from me, and I mean "no chance at all", (warriors // guardians // necros and engineers),

25% are able to escape sometimes, (rangers with leaps or entangle and mesmers with teleport),

The last 25%, (thief and d/d ele), will likely be able to scape,

All that we need to be a great attrition class is a reliable dark path,

Sounds good, but not good enough for the BEST snaring class in the game. ^^

Im pretty sure we aint supposed to actually snare, just force *cough dark path, spectral grasp, etc* the enemy to be close to you.

Thanks for the great episode. That tip on Epidemic is a real game changer for me.

Overall I think Takaruza has some good points, but his absolute lack of input regarding a Power Necro is dungeons other than COF P1 really bugged me. Yes, I get that Power Necros can do well in the easiest and most brain-dead dungeon in the game, but what about places like CM, SE, Arah or even Fractals? COF P1 is just a silly DPS run, while there are many dungeons that greatly benefit with the correct utilities; what can a Necro bring to a party in such cases? It would have been really great if he could have provided some insights in those. Unfortunately, as he admits, he doesn’t do anything other than COF P1…

Im pretty sure that thats mosly because outside of a friend group, most setups would like the necro to use another setup (30+ fractals, Arah and CoE especially), i think i mentioned it when i was on the podcast that if you take a necro and theif/warrior/mesmer, the necro will fall behind in terms of damage if they have the same total zerker stats, but if going for a defensive and supportive setup, they will still do pretty good base damage while spreading conditions (you get a easy 15 seconds of chill in a medium sized aoe by using chillblains, putrid, dark path, swap hydromancy proc into epidemic), healing for pretty insane numbers even if not hard supports in cleric/shammy (WoB+Transfusion), giving a 25 second immunity to attacks in a aoe (Plague and WoD) and even after that use CPC to make all those risen corruptor/gorilla attacks be glancing blows.

For example in SE the golem bosses (and the Alpha in CoE) you benefit more from swapping to Spectral Wall, Plague Signet and Signet of Undeath with Consume Conditions and Lich or Golem while staying on staff/DS attacks even if a condition necro because the enemy will benefit from every vuln, bleed and blind you apply and you are negating a nice bit of damage from your allies and having a free rez if a enemy is in a aoe you wouldnt survive.

Hahaha, I was just watching your videos actually ^^
Love your hybrid and tank build, good job!

So, if my Conditionmancer has 1600 Condition Damage, switching out a couple of Superior Runes of the Undead for SR of the Krait is better right?

Getting 100% Bleed duration is easy with Pizza, 30 Spite, Hemophilia and Scepter/Dagger being Givers weapons, if combined with Rabid gear with Undead Runes and the Vit/Tough to Cond Damage effect you get as close to optimal as you can (getting about 3-6 free damage each tick). But going for a Bleed rune with cond main weapons and condition damage food with 25 points in spite results in pretty much the same thing, only with a minior loss of condition damage if ascended trinkets count, the loss from the weapons and rune condition damage is 235 in the first build, but the gain from the runes is between 260 and 290 depending on ascended or exotic trinkets. Essencially the difference between setups is 1-5 damage pre tick, really not worth investing to change.

you gave the thief the same score for mobility as a necro, you are so clueless it isn’t even funny.

Thief is easily in the top 3 for mobility classes.

Yes, thieves can have high mobility, but in their attrition spec (P/D) they have very limited mobility. P/D has none (#3 is a melee move to shadow step backwards, but uses initiative and lowers their damage) swapping to SB lowers their damage (No decent bleeds, costs initiative to move thus lowering damage) thus removing the constant stream of damage that is required to be a good attrition build.

You can always just go D/P as the secondary weapon set and have a infinite engages and disengages.

Trying to create some sort of more survivable hybrid or DPS build just sees us being underwhelming in all areas. I’m aware of and actually run the Juggermancer and similar builds, but no critical hits or condition damage is pretty wasted on the Necro, wouldn’t you agree?

Sure, we can opt for a glassy power or hybrid build if we’re unsatisfied with Necro’s lackluster DPS, but foregoing any survivability as light armor wearers is asking for it in any game mode. Furthermore, in a game that seemingly punishes melee in most PvE content, running such a build requires some extremely knowledgeable/skilled/careful play when moving into axe/dagger/untraited well range.

Now, I realize Death Shroud plays a huge role in our ability to win the war of attrition. Having a secondary health bar to absorb damage that would otherwise down us – and other classes, for that matter – can’t be discounted. But even with DS in the equation I still feel as though we fall short of what ArenaNet says we should be like. As of right now, we’re too squishy (without enough damage mitigation BESIDES Death Shroud) to live up to their vision of us “getting in and pounding” (lol). And if we try to compensate for being too squishy, our DPS suffers to the point at which people can either get away before we finish them or they can make us exhaust all of our wonderful, touted ways of extending our life ‘til we’re out of options, and are then too immobile to escape with our lives.

My remarks are about pve (well mostly fractals).
Necromancers dont give up that much when going from damage to tanky compared to most other classes (being 2nd on ability to be credit to team list, just a tad above ele and a microscopic bit under guardians because we cant do as much facetanking as they can), because we cant do that much compare to others in the first place, 10~15 continous bleed stacks is nice with really high cond damage (sharing max possible cond damage with mesmers – 10% of toughness to condition damage with undead runes), but having a thief who swaps between 15 and 25 stacks every few seconds is better in a group scenario; and except for lich forms 30 seconds of glory our power setups are medicore at their greatest because of cooldowns. Healing setups are efficient (highly so), but lack the ability to boon up, making a ranger who can help with spirit effects or even a theif giving off perma regen effects with mini stealths a better option than us if a guardian isnt in team/opted for supporting.
Melee is sometimes highly punishing/creates insane difficulty spikes, but in most cases its just ground being gray with foiliage/bumby terrain that covers giant dark hued red circles instead of them being a bit above the ground in the orange-red like when a target selected for a special cast.
On the last subject i agree, damage reduction effect in DS, a reliable form of stability and out of DS lifesteal scailing does need improvements (im fine with us being squishy pieces of cloth outside of ds with a giant hp pool, what im not is that ds falls from 100 to 0 by a hit that wouldnt kill me if i werent in it in the first place).

I love the Necro forums because it’s 80% Bas and Bhawb telling people they’re wrong.

70% Bas and Bhawb telling people they are wrong
15% Bas and Bhawb being wrong or saying something good in a stupid way
10% Someone wanting guns and bows on necros
4% BoC stuff that noone reads
1% Funny puns with necrophilia or simmilar topics

ATTENTION PvE Condition Necros

There are the 2 consumables that benefits pure condition damage dealers, the bombs are on delay if enemy comes to them (like mines), Molachevs (that i have 2 stacks of) are a line that only burns for as long as the enemy is inside of it and doesnt do additional damage, but can stack up to 4 minutes of burning if the enemy moves alongs the line.
But if you really wanna be a condition necro, you probably have terror, thus use http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Grawl_Ritual_Totem.

Using staff outside a condition build

My verdict: Staff is better cz it deals almost same dmg as axe, but keeps me safe. The downside is 10 points for greater marks is a MUST IN PVP

Fixed.

Mesmer clones don’t have same AI… its blatantly obvious in more ways then one.

They dont need to (leveling a mesmer now), all they are worth is maybe 1-2 attack and just shattering them, unlike minions they can run on uneven terrain. Also infinite constant supply.

BoC Update: Andele Tells It Like it is

You did great. I think there was just so much information we could have gleaned from you and that you wanted to share. We will try and fine tune the process a bit more. There are so many pve only players that just want to feel more comfortable.

I actually did the new AC path 2, and it did not go so well. Granted 3 of us were testing new builds and 4 out of the 5 of us had never been to the new path 2. I hate the new final boss.

Exactly the one i love, hard, stupidly strong aoe, but still epic feel when you get the traps full and beat the kitten out of the ghost. Also sorry really couldnt later get on, got stuck on trying to find a present, just to then get told i dont have to when i mentioned that the shipping would cost as much or more…

Support-focused Necro: Is It Possible?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Andele.1306

Andele.1306

Let me just mention this, Support doesnt work in PvP if you aint in a pre made group on vent, people just run out of well of blood and transfusion range.
In terms of PvE, if on same healing power, a necromancer can outheal a guardian in terms of timed bursts (Transfusion is a plain 2.5 k heal, while WoB regen area has a 3.4 scailing, that is the highest ratio for aoe, but remember passive regen from guardians is still op vs ai).
Going WoB, WoD, WoC or a corruption skill depending on setup, Plague Signet and Plague ofc.

Taking Spike Damage In Death Shroud

May i note that what Bhawb.7408 said doesnt apply to locked ticking skills (life transfer) or multi tick based(whirlwind attack), for example, you are low on life force, enemy zerker warrior dual strikes you (axe offhand 4), unless you could tank the entire first hit with your remaining life force, the second hit will actually attack you, but a giant spike of damage that channels (100b) wont because they dont really count as seperate hits for DS/Blind, but instances in that the damage is delt from 1 use of the enemy (Life transfer and whirlwind on the other hand also cause a seperate tick on the owner of casting a damage pulse).

Superior Rune of Lyssa and flesh golem

in Necromancer

Andele.1306

Why use Golem if you can use Plague (epic with Lyssa) or Lich (birds scale with new power thus Mad King does some nice damage).

We do, its just that necro projectiles tend to be… slow… and kitten with terrain.
