with the new revamped Dragonhunter- traitline it could be possible to not go virtues in Pvp. Right now Valor and Virtues is must-have for all guardian builds. The condiclear on Block in the new DH line could maybe open the possiblity to go radiance,valor and DH with sword/focus+ longbow and marauder amulet or even Zeal,valor, DH with Gs and Longbow again with marauder

I love the trait rework. it was needed. the condition remove on block seems really good and gives us the option to drop virtues. this opens up a great varity of builds. thank you for listening ( also nice to see an idea of my in the changes. Also this trait setup opens up the option to go with a trap in pvp ( block trap together with going zeal valor DH for shatterd aegis).
I think im nearly fully happy. there is one thing left that needs a fix imo. This is F2. its clunky, its a bit like old jumpshot. a range increase to 900 would fix this issue i think

Puncture Shot: Arrow velocity is slow! We’re looking at increasing it so that it’s less strafe-able. What we’ve got it at is ~66% increase, putting it at around Hip Shot (engineer rifle) velocity. We’re also looking at the base and bounce functionality.

i dont feel like a dmg increase here is not needed. it should be more of a utility skill. dont buff the dmg but make it a bit bigger and make it reflect to reward getting projectiles with it. maybe even make it do less/no dmg but add the reflect
Symbol of Energy: It’s really hard to place this in a position on allies/enemies without them being gone by the time the arrow gets there. Upping the missile velocity by ~60% and allowing it to be fired behind you.

a few ideas for the still clunky virtues:
make F2 range to 900 ( to make it a great engage/disengage skill (this is what guardian lacks right now)
make f3 instant ( to allow stomps with stab)
Traits:
combine bulwark and hunters fortification
cripple on big game hunter
combine heavy light and dulled senses
trait to throw traps (or make it baseline)
Edit:
Soaring Devastation: Increased the duration of the immobilize from 1.5s to 3s
i feel like a 3 second immob on F2 is too long. make it 2 maybe

im against more unblockable kitten. stop wanting to get buffed all the time. we are not in the thief forum here. if the dmg is high enough then this skill is still good. its risk vs reward gameplay. be rooted but deal alot of dmg. its ok this way. we have other problems on dragon hunter (virtues)

i feel like anet totally misses the point with the changes. Dmg wasnt really an issue of guard. main issue was was it (mostly longbow) feeling clunky,the new virtues being an downgrade to the old ones, traits being boring and Traps being useless. so no, changeing numbers isnt the way to go here imo.
so. pls watch what people tell you in the forum. when BW1 was, nearly every comment contained “fixes” to longbow. It could look like this:
1. increase arrow speed (the whole point of guard getting another range option was that scepter aa sucks. so giving us a weapon with the exact same problem just leaves me speachless)
2. you can now move while casting (maybe reduce the dmg abit in exchange)
3. its not a ground target anymore. instead you target an enemy (this skill is near useless as a ground target skill)
4. make it able to shoot behind you (like arcing arrow)
5. this skill is actually fine
Virtues as i said feel like a downgrade. a fix could be:
F1: seems fine. dmg increase wasnt really needed
F2: 900 range
F3: instant cast
the traits of dragonhunter feel mostly boring and without love or just underwhelming. The propesed changes help a bit but are far from being enough.
my ideas:
“big game hunter” make it cause cripple instead of vulnerability. this would also make the F1 skill much more useful. the chain effect you see would also come to life. enemys once hit cant run away that easily anymore
combine “heavy light” and “dulled senses” into one GM trait. The created space in master tier could be used for a trait like: " traps are groundtarget "
combine “bulwark” and “hunters fortification” into one master trait. this GM is really underwhelming. The space in the GM tier could be used for another trap trait. This way we have the ability to pic one trap, one longbow and one virtue trait in every tier
ideas for it could be: “immob on trap activation” or “increased radius + duration of traps” or maybe something like " Fragments of Faiths if you get stunned"
Im overall not a big fan of traps as a utility. but it seems we are stuck with it. so maybe some love in the traits could make it useful. also it seems like a good idea to go with 3 traits for longbow,3 traits for virtues and 3 traits for traps. People gonna use the Dragonhunter for one of those 3 things. They have to go into the traitline to use them. So why not give them traits in each tier for the thing they want to use aswell?

The warriors shield skill is a different case entirely. Its MENT to punish people who attack a blocking person to much. For the guardian it was not our traits main functionality and that’s why it was nerfed
i dont really get it. why should war get to punish you and guard shouldnt
I don’t pay attention to what my enemies do in PvP all the time. That doesn’t mean they should get to smack me in the face with stacks of might from a minor trait.
thats whats wrong with pvp. people who dont look what his enemy does should lose their 1v1. (thats also whats wrong with eles. bc this class just goes might stack rota instead of paying attention). I think this behaviour should be heavily punished
other than that. i agree on the problem that guardian just run into aoe with shelter to get might. this still doesnt give you 20+ mightstacks tho. you only get that if someone uses rapid fires or blurred frenzy on you. and they should stow weapon in that case.

I’d wish for this trait to be reverted to its pre spezialisation patch.
I dont understand the Change to begin with. Guardian is one of the worst classes when it comes to might stacking. I feel like this trait gave a good amount of skillplay to the guard an also to enemys. it makes good players stow weapon when a guard runs shelter instead of mindlessly attack into it. It rewards the right useage of shelter. this skill is really only good for shelter. It gives you a good but really short power spike if the enemy doesnt pay attention to your skills and also if you use it right. and only then.
beside the skillplay it removed i also wanted to point out that warrior has a similar trait (shield master) without icd. i know comparing to class skills isnt always right. but why does a war get the exactly same thing while its already incredibly good at might stacking? Guard has only staff (only on bunker) or the 3 mightstacks with F1. thats it.
so pls give us back the old “might of the protector” and bring back a bit more skillplay on an already easy class

the new system sounds pretty kitten good. i am only afraid that it doesnt punish bad players enough and everyone ends up being in the top divisions.
To the soloq problem. i dont think there are enough players anymore to split it into soloq and teamq + divisions while also having ranked and unranked . i guess in lower divisions you can still soloq. But if you get higher you eventually have to play with a premade team. I kinda like it because it promotes forming teams or atleast pugging with friends but i understand that some solo players are a bit worried

everything from a pvp pov:
Longbow:
1: seems fine
2: would be nice to use while moving
3: pls make it a target shot and not a ground target. would be a big QoL improvment
4: you somehow cant target it behind you ( you can do that with war arcing arrow). so lets us use it like warrior LB f1 and 3
5: seems pretty good to me
Traits
they seem kinda boring in general to me. not much love in it. still i think they are good/ok.
new Virtues
seem clunky. its obviously bc im used to instant cast. still some improvements:
F1: make it cripple. currently( if you dont trait it) it does nearly nothing except for giving you a cast time+ you have to hit it. basically a downgrade to normal f1
F2: animation is kinda long for the short range. feels very clunky. i would like to see the range increased to deal with that (900?). its a support downgrade but movement upgrade( if range is a bit more)
F3: looks pretty good. you lose the instant cast but get a really nice block
additional point: i would love to use longbow without having to go into the traitline. its sad that i cant have the weapon without giving up a original traitline for the kinda boring DH traitline

completly forgot traps. well. i dont actually see them being that useful in pvp. didnt really test them tho. i dont have any improvement ideas. i just dislike traps overall

By that logic, mesmer counters every class since it can moa out of stealth.
except for thiefs or other mes bc they can stealth aswell
but back on topic:
I played some 1v1 against decent mesmers. if they play sword+torch and GS its really hard for them to kill you. if the guard doesnt kitten up or gets outplayed he should survive forever (tested against mantra pre nerf. i dont know how it will go with PU. stealth time is much longer which makes it ez for them to hit mirror blade out of stealth (with normal stealth duration you just time your dodge shortly before stealth runs out).
If the mesmer runs Staff+ GS on the other hand i think he will win in an even skilled matchup

GS/Hammer is purely meele. i dont see that be viable in pvp. you can easily outkite that (just cripple) and if you go low and need to retreat abit, regenerate, wait for cds and stuff you will be completly useless.

shatterd aegis deals 2,8k crits on marauder. thats pretty kitten good dmg. combine it with communal defense and it can hit 2,8k x 5 with 4 allies near you (lets say a rezz situation). thats pretty insane dmg from just a block.
back to the original topic, here are my suggestions (from a pvp point of view):
Traits:
Zeal:
seems good for pvp aswell for pve. we have a bunch of useless stuff like “wrathful spirit” and “zealous scepter” but who cares we got good traits too. “Symbolic Avenger” seems weak in pvp. could need a buff. but that could make it op in pve? also “kindled zeal” feels like it should be in radiance (condi). but overall i wouldnt change the traitline
Radiance:
Switch “retribution” and " radiant retalliation" so we have a dmg orientated traits as gm (incase you go dps with one handed weapons). alternative: switch “wrath of justice” with " perfect inscription"
Valor:
must-have for all guardians. still some issues:
“strengh of the fallen” shouldnt have the downstate part. its a pretty bad thing to have in pvp and actually makes a good trait bad. so pls. just remove this part of the trait.
valor master lacks a dmg trait. this is where “glacial heart” should be. instead of “stalwart defender” maybe? (bc we need the other two traits for other builds). stalwart defender could go into valor adapt tier (instead of strenght of the fallen). so you can choose between a focus or a shield trait.
Also i would like to get “might of the protector” reverted. there is only one skill that really uses it (block mutiple times per second) and that is shelter. it has a clear animation and people should pay for spamming their stuff into blocks
Another thing is: “Courageous Return”. this trait is bugged and doesnt work if the virtue is traited. pls fix anet
Honor:
its a good support traitline. would not change it
Virtues: (onther must-have traitline)
“glacial heart” needs to be in another space. “absolute resulution” and “indomitable Courage” are must-have. every other trait in virtues in master and GM are basically lost. adapt tier has nice choices. so pls just get glacial heart out of that line and make hammer viable again
Utility skills:
“litany of wrath” is a high risk skill right now. make it more rewarding/useable by making it a instant cast.
“merciful invention” to make it viable this needs to be a shadow step (make it only heal if you hit an allie with it)
“signet of mercy”, reduce the cast time.
“receive the light” make each tick count as a shout (for trait +rune) (this would make it like ether renewal. maybe make it only 3 pulses then (so 6 condis removed)
Rest is kinda fine in my eyes. i dont like AI so i wont say anything on spirit weapons
Weapons:
Shield: make 4 give out aegis and bugfix 5
Torch: make 5 also remove condis on you (lets say 2 at start). or make it heal abit (initial for you and allies per tick?) otherwise give it burning. right now its plain useless. its better to autoattack with a weapon instead of useing it. it basically makes you play with 4 skills instead of 5
Sword:
make 3 hit mutltiple targets/pierce or make it follow a target better
maybe make 2 hit faster so you can activly blind skills of enemys
Scepter could use some velocity increas. but its already a good weapon. other weapons (staff,gs,hammer, mace and focus) are pretty good
Edit: only weapon guard is really lacking (after longbow comes) is a condi weapon. guard is the only class without a condition weapon set. i kinda like it bc it makes guard less cheesy. but i understand that people want to play condi on guard. so a weapon that deals abit of bleeding or poison. this could make condi guard op pretty quick tho

Solution:
Ingame tournaments with gem rewards. We actually had this at launch.
Also another issue to adress (incase grouch reads this) are the Eu thursday cups. There is only a prize if 8 teams show up. thats nearly never the case —> gives even less reason to show up on thursday. pls revert that change. (maybe let only people who didnt win go4 last week(like on na) participate so more low level teams join?)

With the new specialisation system we got some new buffs in the skillbar (strength in numbers, stone heart…) but anet hasnt really been consistent with does. there are some really important (game changing) buff missing. we already have the icon done (with the traits). it just needs to show in your buff bar
In my opinion all Traits that somehow give immunity should be shown.

i agree with the scepter one. they could obviously tone down the dmg if they make it faster. or make it follow the target a bit.
To Greatsword:
Greatsword dmg right now is really good. the zeal/valor/virtue medi guard build makes tons of dmg. Hammer was viable before bc of the cc. it was just a tiny bit better than GS bc of utility. gs wasnt trash back then. And as always comparing Weapon skills from one class to another doesnt really work.
I just feel we should list the thinks that really are an issue (like torch, shield, sword3, scepter aa, traits (bugs and glacial heart)) and not just cry for buffs everywhere.
Hammer, GS, Staff, mace and focus all seem pretty fine to me

its i good idea to list this OoL changes although i do not agree with all of them. so here is my list
Greatsword 2:
dmg is fine, its a hard to land skill with much payoff (downedcleave for example) should stay that way
Greatsword 3:
fine aswell
Greatsword 5:
woudl be nice if pull(2nd attack) is instant. although GS seems in a nice spot
Scepter 1:
i agree its clunky. but the dmg is high. if we increase the projectile speed it might be op. we get Longbow in the expansion to get a good hitting ranged weapon
Sword 3:
attacks should hit mutilitle targets not just one(for cleave) and also should hit moving people und not just people standing still
Hammer 1-5:
it does nice dmg, cc and prot. cast time shouldnt be reduced. its fine currently. It maybe would be nice to get a increase in hammer2 range. but not really needed. I agree that Glacial Heart is in a crap spot tho. should be moved back to Valor Master
Shield 4-5:
cds are really low right now and its nearly viable. adding aegis to both skills (like they said in the ready up) would make it viable for bunker guards for sure (synergy with pure of heart). also fix shield 5 duration bug pls

sword2:
the blind is a bit slow, making it hard to actually blind something. i would like it to blind as soon as you are at the target to make it able to blind stuff like mirror blade activly
torch 4:
make it less klunky. its often obstructed
torch5:
make it cleanse condis on yourself aswell. that would prolly make torch a viable option for guards in pvp
Trait courages return:
pls bugfix when F3 is traited with stab und stunbreak
Trait strenght of the fallen:
make it back to purity and delete the downstate stuff. it actually is a bad thing bc enemys can let you bleed out

i really like the condi cleanse. and i would love to take the trait. i also picked it on bunker guard pre patch. sadly they added the that -33% downstate degeneration. this makes this trait really bad in pvp, because it lets you bleed out longer. Could we please get the old trait back without the downstate stuff?

i dont get you. shout guard is the one getting screwed. they are dead. Before they got vit through honor. now they have 11,6k hp
other guard builds are fine vita wise. The old berserk amu is the new marauder(Marauder: 1050 pow, 1050 pre, 560 vit, 560 fero).
So guard builds that will lose bc of the stats change are only the one using honor line

i dont get this change. people are crying for less rng and anet does the opposite. You basically remove skillplay from support-shout guards and necros (corrupt). before i could use burn to block an attack. now its rng if i romove the burn i just got or any other condi. Or i could remove the pindown from a player if i was quick enough before another condi hit him. now its total rng if he get the immob removed and survives or if he’s still immobed and dies..

i agree with the op. the nerf takes a bit of skillplay away. from both the guard (blocking at the right time) and the enemy (stowing weapons when the hit shelter instead of mindless spamming). the trait was also not super powerful. i mean it basically only had inpact on shelter

to make it clear:
I’m talking about PvP. in pve you can get your vit by mixing different stats (rings, amulett …)
The problem with vitality is also only regarding bunker builds, or builds with the honor line pre-patch.
its kinda hard to fix tho.There are 3 differnt options in my opinion:
1. give guard more base HP (which on the other hand would result in a buff for medi guards)
2. give us a new amulett or vit on clerics amulett, which could result in other classes getting more use out of that for cheesy builds (decap engi?).
3. giving us a trait. actually we got a trait (honor GM). problem with it is, you cant take the trait + shout GM (which is kinda the must have for a support guard)
As an alternative to 3: they could add 300 vit to a minor trait in honor
Anyway. we have to wait for the patch and see what base HP we get. I hope Anet thinks of this problem and solves it so bunker guard can be played post-patch.

i just wanted to point out that the remove of stats in the traitlines could bring some serious issues to some guard builds (bunker/support builds mainly).
Guardian always had a insanely low base hp. Thats the main reason most builds didnt work and why we were forced to eigther take amulets with vitality(zerker) or go into honor line(bunker/support) while we still only had about 13.9k to 15k hp.
With the patch the stats of the honor line will be removed which could lead to bunker guardians not being viable just because they dont have enough hp. This is even more an issue with the power creep the patch brings for most classes (mes, thief …)
So pls Anet devs consider the health pool of guardians. bring it up to 15k or give us better support amuletts

its normal to struggle against comdi/sustain builds as dps guard. (condi) engis, dd ele and shoutwars are your counter in 1v1. however you can win against bad engis. You need the better opening. so jump him with burst. You need to keep the engi pressured and try to cleanse the burn(ip). you have about 4-5 IP procs you can cleanse/survive. after that he needs to die or you will

i just wanted to give a feedback on the new traits (from a pvp point of view).
All together its seems like a buff to bunker guard (AH + Virtues guard combined) but a nerf to dps guard (potential loss of 3 traits glacial heart,blind on F1 and vigor on crit). Also they want condi guard to be a thing. Could be really annoying to fight.
Zeal:
Overall this line seems fine for me. alot of power for dps guards (and i guess its a must-have in pve).
Radiance:
Seems like its the condition traitline. Still there are some great traits for power aswell. Thats why i would like to see a dmg-orientated grandmaster (maybe change “Radiant Retaliation” with “Retribution” or change the Signet GM with the immob on F1)
Valor:
I think this line will be a must-have for bunker aswell as dps guard. This is why i think this line needs a dmg orientated master-trait. currently all 3 are defensive. I would like to see “glacial heart” back here (atleast in some form (the one with slow?)). Another thing that could be done better in this trait-line is the trait “strenght of the fallen”. While the “purity” part (condicleanse with10s icd) is really good, the downstate part is actually a very bad thing. it makes enemys able to let you bleed out longer. So i would like to see this part removed from that trait.
Honor:
Seems to be a traitline for bunker. wouldnt change something here
Virtues:
This line could end up being a must-have for every guard build (with absolute resolution and indomitable courage). Thats why i would like to get virtuous mallet moved to valor. Also i would like to see the blind on F1 trait in this line. but this could end up being a bit op. although it would match into the virtues line.
Dragonhunter:
I dont like the name, but this doesnt affect pvp so… what ever. Other than that: Hunter’s Fortification seems a bit underwhelming for a GM in terms of prot-duration

i guess the main problem of the new “glacial heart” is its placement in virtues. people will pick the condi remove on virtue instead of the slow. I would suggest to put it back in the Valor line (master). in pvp most of the guard(defensive and offensive) will pick both, valor and virtues. Valor has no offensive Master trait, although dps guard will go for valor because of monks focus. The dmg loss on the new trait hurts abit, but i think we will be fine with the 4 aditional traitpoints. dps guards could get a huge dmg increase out of zeal to compensate for the dmg loss on glacial heart

so you want a super strong trait, so strong that all war builds use it to to be a minor trait? So op builds like shout war get buffed even more bc they can pick another trait in that line aswell? Beside the fact that all builds got buffed bc of the aditional 4 traitpoints + traits getting merged?

-Retaliatory Subconscious - This needs to be swapped out with something else , break stuns, or just be combined with another trait. Because 3s of retaliation on a 30s CD is a very underwhelming choice. Maybe it should be combined with Retribution?
I agree on that one. I would love to see “justice is blind” here. Its would fit in the Virtue line and its also a trait used by most meta builds (power and bunker) in a condition-traitline. These builds would have to go without it bc its not worth for them going into Radiance as Dps or bunker guard
Beside the “justice is Blind” trait, i would also like to see a power Master-trait in Valor. currently as a Dps guard you have to choose Monks focus—> valor but there are only defensive Valor Master Traits
Another thing is the Trait “strenght of the fallen” (already made a thread for that). I would like to see the downstate stuff removed (so just Purity)
Edit: didnt see the aegis on retaliatory subconscious. But i still think blind on virtue of justice would be a nice trait to have in Virtues. you could trait all 3 virtues then(blind on F1,condicleanse on F2 and Stab on F3).
@pitman: making absolute resolution and indomitable courage into minor would be a bit op i think. Also i think that the specialization will give us a traitline as alternative for the virtues line.

the trait they showed at the stream said, that “strenght of the fallen” is now condi cleanse all 10 seconds (which was something most bunker guards used) combined with 33 % lower downstate health loss. I would like to see them removing the degeneration decrease, bc its actually a pretty bad thing in pvp. people would now be able to let you bleed much longer.
Tldr: Remove the downstate stuff and make the trait be purity alone

Here’s my experience with the current ladder:
…..My biggest concern, though, is really the matchmaking algorithm in use right now. I think the thing that’d help a player like me the most is the ability to find a team or a group of players I can play with when I queue, because matchmaking usually pairs me with lower MMR players to counterbalance my mid-high MMR, and as a result I have matches that really aren’t fun where I have to carry hard or get smashed by mediocre players slaying 4 players from my team with 2 players from their team.
honestly i dont think the matchmaking is bad. I get alot of close/even matches. I dont mind playing with players worse then me as long as the enemy team has them aswell. Obviously sometimes you get bad matches, but i think thats more due to the small player base. The matchmaking algorithm seems fine to me. The Ladder is the problem. We need a Ladder showing MMR. This will btw also increase the overall matchmaking too. It leads to more teams forming and playing —> less premade vs soloq

This test season is intended to test an algorithm that’s tailored towards ranking players higher for better W/L ratios, in addition to using points gained from playing (meaning games played does not become valueless). The algorithm we’re using this time around is completely different than what was previously tested, and they both have different purposes. We’re already having internal discussions on how we can adjust this season’s algorithm to better suit the goals we stated on Thursday – rewarding players who play well, not just play. These discussions will continue into the next week, and now we have an entire weekend’s worth of data that we can look at and extrapolate on.

It kinda sounds like it’s just a ladder point algorithm, which would be a step backwards imo.They still use a matchmaking algorithm based on MMR. Which actually works well imo. Really well, I think it is very well written and coded in general. Honestly most solo queue matches are well balanced and fair.
The problem is that the system has killed team forming. You used to be get very good eu players pugging up and queueing in team queue because everybody wanted to get high on the leaderboards. Now, nobody respects the leaderboard and so nobody cares about trying in gw2 and forming a roster.
Almost all teams came out of people pugging and making friends. By pugging they realised who players they gelled with and who was a similar level. So they could then gather up a player base of dudes who they could form a team with. Many many many teams formed in this way. Most people started out pugging seriously on ts and that is how they proved themselves AND how they found others who didnt rage/they got on with etc.
The failure of the leaderboard is currently killing the formation of teams. I know it sounds counter intuitive but it is what many of us have observed.
No new teams pop up anymore whereas in september/october there were teams popping up everywhere. Every day there would be some new teams of people try harding gw2 pvp.
This was because Grouch and Anet did great work building up the competitive scene. That scene is now AT BEST stagnant because there is no way for new teams to form currently. Which is a massive shame. Anet do so much so well, but the leaderboards are one of the things currently killing all that.
You can still pug up in a premade but you wont get any games good enough to know how good the people you are playing with really are anymore.

pretty much this. in november we had like 11-12 top teams. We had TOG, TOL and new go4cups aswell as wts on the door. Then they brought in the Scoreboard to replace the Leaderboards. Now we have 4 teams on EU
Leaderboards should show the skilllevel and therefor should be based on MMR. There is no need for testing this point system. just give us back the old one and test out decay systems instead

leaderboards should show the skilllevel/whos best. So it should be MMR based. Its nothing to work for. Otherwise we see Turret Engis on top claiming to be top players in the forums. We had a MMR based Leaderboard before actually. The only flaw was the decay system. So maybe just let our MMR decrease if we dont play enough and take the old leaderboard (players get rusty anyway if they dont play)

problem with this is, that you cant accept que pop while in loading screen. thats why they made it like its now. some people with ssd may not get a problem but i know people who load really long and they would constantly missing que pops.
so i understand the decision to not let us go into other maps. instead of this i would wish for a duel option in the heart of the mist (for example where the underwater combat was before)

i like the idea of shield 4 gives aegis. would we really nice. making shiled 5 impassable w/o stab would be pretty op tho. i dont want that to happen

i agree, that the new lfg forum is messy as hell and i also kinda like your idea, but what is a “skilled” player in your opinion? and wouldnt it be good to give all players a chance to find a team? Also there is already a guild with many “top” players in it to pug for ranked/teamq (ask lypion if you think you should be in it)
I think it would be a better idea to tell the devs in the forum, that we need the old lfg forum (pvp) back. Finding teammates with the new one is hard bc a post is on the 2nd page in matter of seconds
