What would GW2 be like with trinity?

3 game modes and 2 are PvP based. Combat in GW2 is largely balanced around PvP. Of course there shouldn’t be trinity.

Anyway, PvE in any MMO is mindless, boring and scripted. You’re either wailing away at a meat tank or you’re being killed in 2 hits or both (when you’re soloing content, not including grinding, which can be done with a bot). Why are we even discussing PvE here?

Because pvp has never really relied on a trinity in any game and doesn’t have a place in the topic? You get lost on the way to the pvp forum?

You don’t PvP much do you killcannon? Other MMOs it’s basically team with healers wins… If your team has no healers, but the other does you may aswell just afk…

incorrect, the team who kills the others healers first wins.

That is the central aspect of strategy, generally, though not the only one. If it’s arena, it might just be killing the squishiest one or ignoring the squishiest one for that matter. Combat is rather rich under the trinity, unlike the stack and wail combat of GW2.

If you really think trinity is so “rich” and GW2 PvP is stack and wail. Why are you even playing this game? There’s countless MMOs with trinity… Why don’t you just play them instead of trying to turn GW2 into one of them?

I’m playing WoW currently. Thanks for the info.

Doesn’t suprise me, why is the WoW crowd trying to turn GW2 into WoW? Are you fed up with paying a sub? Just want WoW with new gfx? Truly believe every other MMO should be like WoW? I mean we don’t get players from CoD or BF in here asking for guns, ammo, medics and tanks in this game so why you?

Na, I believe MMO’s should have more depth than choosing the best DPS build out of a handful of DPS builds.

But you already have that in WoW?

Surely you’re not this daft?

Plenty of other MMOs don’t have the trinty, why do you want GW2?

Surely you are… Answering my question with a question…. Name a triple A MMO with no trinity? An answer this time plz… Not a question…

What would GW2 be like with trinity?

Players who want the traditional trinity want it for one of two reasons:

1, They haven’t found a profession, build or playstyle that suits them yet. Or..
2, The feel of the combat and how it plays overall just doesn’t suit them.

There is a 3ed reason they cant chose for them self when they have a chose they need to have something chosen for them. They want to be in a box and not think outside of it.

There also a 4th but is a support tank only point of view they want to feel important and want other ppl to think them for playing the less played class type. They want to feel self important by the “pain” they must endure.

Uh…you do realize there is only one choice when you play GW2?

DPS

Sorta weird you think that this game has more choice than the trinity.

Oh really? How’s that working for you in PvP?

I don’t know, throw 5 bunkers at 5 dps centric builds and tell me.

Throw 5 tanks into most WoW dungeons and they will fail as well.

A balanced PvP group will beat 5 pure DPS.

Unfortunately, the same is far from true in PvE, and it is why I have quit playing it even though I’m by far a more PvE person.

Unfortunately, this has the side effect of opening chat if I’m wanting to click an utility skill (I’m a noob clicker, deal with it) while I’m dodging in the middle of an intense fight.

Is there a way to disable the shift+click thing?

GoM doesn’t have any representation in PvE either.

I have a love/hate relationship with GW2…lots to love…lots to annoy you…

Pretty much the same way I feel as well.

Unfortunately for me, the good doesn’t make up for the bad. The feel, aesthetics, and everything is just astounding as far as MMOs go. That novelty wears off eventually though, and you’re left the base mechanics of the game. Exploration of builds, finding potentials of the professions, etc…and that is just sorely lacking in this game. Basically all builds play the same, DPS while dodging mechanics. Utility skills don’t make a big enough splash to feel like they really change gameplay, and elite skills for the most part have no synergy with anything they are just big fancy spells every three to five minutes.

You can master your profession by level 35. Nothing after that point makes that big of difference. Traits for the most part don’t have a big enough impact to change the way you play.

Anyways, I really am confused about your interpretations of GW1. For starters, the way I saw it, the game was very specific in builds. You either ran a specific build or you were neglected from groups for high-end farms – period. Hell, this even applied to just about anything. It was pathetic.

Not everyone did “high-end content” with PuGs.

95% of the game was doable with heroes and hench.

The other 5% was godawful DoA that the only reason for doing was for…I don’t know actually.

Yeah, GW2 lacks the depth of GW1.

Not the “you have no choice but to grind” as seen in other games, but “you have no choice to grind”.

I level a lot of alts in MMOs, and generally, after work, I enjoy just mindlessly killing enemies. I do like that GW2 creates somewhat of a sense of urgency, rushing from event to heart to event…but honestly, some times I’d like to actually be rewarded for just mindlessly killing things.

I’m not asking for it to be a superior way of leveling compared to events and hearts…but as it is, you may as well just log off since the XP from just killing enemies is so small.

I notice Guardians seem to be the most guilty and immature. I think it is because that type of player is attracted to all the blocks the guardian can rely on, so they just don’t bother to play very well. So they add poorly to the group, and if they need to step it up for the group, they get prissy.

I have been farming for my legendary pretty hardcore over the past few weeks (farmed passively since the beginning of the game) and I just get sad when I look at the list of items I still need for the Legendary.

So far I farmed EVERYTHING that is non-gold related. Karma/Skill Points/Badges/Tokens/Exploration/etc..

Roughly adding up the remaining materials I need that are gold related, it looks like I’ll need around 500-600gold, maybe more.

That is just ridiculous. I have like 50gold, 75 gold tops (if I sold everything).

What do you think the % of gold buying players is for those who own a legendary? I think at least 90% of them bought gold. 7% got a pre-cursor early on, and the rest either got funded by their guild or got lucky with a few precursor drops.

Farming it should not be based on luck. The only way I see my self getting a legendary is by getting really lucky by getting a precursor drop, and still it will be hard to get.

Then don’t farm for legendaries.

Not sure why some people are acting like you have to sacrifice damage to do support/control and that it is somehow detrimental.

Damage is almost entirely based on armor. Traits, for many classes, make only a small difference. On that same note, support and control come mostly from runes, sigils, and traits.

Yes, people trying to ONLY support or control are generally going to fail hard. Healing Power, I’m looking at you. Healing Power in it’s current state is nothing but a detriment to the game and serves as a noob trap.

thousands of people played the same gw1 content for 4 years and its audience barely diminished untill the day gw2 came out. it did not have a shelf life it needed an update or xpac.

It clearly had a shelf life if it needed an expansion pack.

And a small segments of plays will actually play any game indefinitely. There’s still people playing Diablo 2 and Starcraft. The vast majority of people eventually move on though when new content dwindles, as it pretty much stopped with GW1 several years ago.

If GW had an expansion the size of GW2, I’d be playing the hell out of it. But am I going to continue playing through content I’ve finished dozens upon dozens of times? Na.

Circle strafing in melee range reduces damage taken by anywhere from 50% to 100%, depending on the fight.

I find this hard to believe. No rewarding loot? Like Ectoplasm? Jade Shards? Platinum? Salvaging for loot was just as important in Guild Wars 1. There was just no DR. It’s the exact same system except the people behind GW2 want to put our hands in cuffs when we play to much.

Acquiring a lot of Ectos, Platinum, and Jade Shards took just as much farming/grinding as dungeon tokens do in GW2. The only value ectos, platinum, and jade shards had was buying fancier looking armor. Dungeon tokens serve the same purpose.

right – you ran DUNGEONS – we shouldn’t have to run dungeons or fractals to earn a reasonable amount of gold – a lot of people HATE dungeons and prefer open world stuff (which by the way, was a major selling point of this game – open world activities.)

my guild is small and we have not run many dungeons yet. i am doing just fine financially doing open world content. i know some folks are tired of hearing this, but learning how the game economy works is critical if you want to make money. simple as that.

so true, but if we all wanted to be a day trader we would do it in real life, not in a game that is not at all about day trading (or maybe it is…) – flipping is for the lazy

So you want to have enough gold to buy anything from just mindlessly wandering around?

The only way that would be possible is if everything was just devalued to the point of being irrelevant.

It is more important to learn to dodge and target the same target and ress people that are down (not defeated). Once defeated you ress at the waypoint. Anything else is fluff. It’s more about learning the dungeons than your class because in the end you need to do roughly the same no matter which class you play.

I don’t know, my Necro feels vastly different in dungeons than my Guardian.

Guardian is all about being in melee range at all times to maintain protection and might on everyone while looking for good opportunities to throw up a Wall of Reflection to shutdown ranged mobs for pretty much the rest of the fight. There’s also the stopping of melee trains.

Necro is admittedly a lot less versatile, but it still has unique features compared to my Guardian. Spectral Grasp is awesome for pulling single mobs by themselves, interrupting big spells, and long chill. Swapping weapon sets and popping in and out of Death Shroud to keep melee bosses permanently Chilled is also pretty awesome. And of course, there’s fear to interrupt big spells as well.

In the end all you need is dodge, ress and auto attack and keep moving. So in large lines I agree with the OP.

But my problem with the combat system is that a lot of bosses just need you to move, dodge and ress and use skill 1 and 6. As much as the OP has a point, it also underlines for me why a number of people find the skill bar uninteresting. Not that all the other skills are pointless or useless….you just really don’t need em. And this means that creating a build isn’t as interesting as it could be.

Try running with PuGs.

Many are HORRIBLE at the game, and suddenly you need to squeeze everything you can out of those utility skills that have a way longer cooldown than they should.

Now I dont know if im just very unlucky, or your EXTREMELY lucky, but I havent made anywhere near 20g from running dungeons. Matter of a fact, I dont think I’ve even made 10g from all those dungeon runs (I think I’ve gotten 3 loadstone drops all those runs). Granted, i wasnt in it for the gold; but still. 20g in a few dungeon runs?

You get a few exotic drops or something?

Sorry to break it to you, but every game is going to have something that works better, and people are always going to find it.

If there were 3 builds to choose from literally labeled A, B and C, the community would figure out which one was better and that would be the “cookie cutter”. Hiding information doesn’t stop that, it only serves as a hindrance for people who don’t look up information.
