Unless I misread what Josh said, they’ll add more skins as time goes on. So what’s the big issue?

None of the current skins really appeal to me anyway, so I’m just going to save baubles/bubbles until a skin comes out that I really like.

Pink glowy gun for my mesmer please. It would be perfect.

As much as I love the dungeon, I don’t want it to be permanent. It would get old fast, and not be so special anymore.

Much more fun to have it come over a few times throughout the year.

A frightfully scary place.

So far, I’ve been lucky to have the continue coins and avoid whatever demise it brings. But I do wonder…what happens if you don’t have the coins? What terrible faith will your poor character face?

And an even more intriguing question, is it like a classical ‘Game Over’ and you have to start all the way at the beginning, or do you still get the zones you opened?

I ask because I’m not cruel enough to submit any of my characters to suicide just to find out…even in a virtual world within a virtual world. Just ending up in that room is probably enough frightful trauma for them as is…

There are a few personality decisions in GW2, but I haven’t found many. There is one I distinctly remember:

When my scoundrel thief (50/50 ferocity and charm) got the option to kill Captain Tervelan after he was captured, in the Dead Sister storyline. Logan Thackery even said to her, "remind me not to get on your bad side." Hehe, big brave Logan is wary of my thief.

It is there, just not that much. And making that decision didn’t change the story itself – probably just some dialogue changes to compensate. It would be more fun to see it tweaked in more heavily. But because of my sylvari’s personality, I picked up a funny joke when talking to a certain npc:

“What did the farmer say when he saw rats in his barn? Skritt!”

Bloodclaw let out a furious roar. He raised his hammer and barreled straight into the undead on the shore below. He screamed and raged, bashing their heads into their ribcages, and catapulting flailing bodies with his mighty swings. He felled about ten or twenty undead minions before finally hefting his hammer into the sand and leaning against the handle, drawing in ragged breaths. “…I feel better now.”

Arikyali cautiously stepped around the guts and dismembered limbs as she made her way to the exhausted charr. “…oh yuck. Gross.”

Bloodclaw wiped the gunk off his hammer with the end of his sleeve. “Don’t like it, don’t step in it,” he told the sylvari.

“You should watch out for your friend, Valiant,” one of the wardens called back to Arikyali. “It wouldn’t hurt if he ‘acts with wisdom.’”

Bloodclaw twitched. “Arik…” he growled, “….please tell them to leave before I REALLY loose it and do something both you and I will regret!!”

The warden grinned. “Sorry,” he called back. “Couldn’t resist. Live well,” he said. He waved and headed off.

Bloodclaw grabbed his hammer and started to stalk toward the two wardens. “Get back here, you walking shrubs!” he yelled.

“Oooh no you don’t,” Arikyali said, grabbing his tail and yanking him back. “You’re not hurting anyone!”

Bloodclaw turned and growled at her. “I’m strong enough to jump from here to there, and drag you with me, flower-head…”

“Bloodclaw!” Arikyali scolded. “Calm down! It’s simply our way of greeting each other!”

“Yeah, let me show them mine!” Bloodclaw raged, raising his hammer with both hands and jerking his tail to get it out of the sylvari’s grip.

“You keep your temper under control, Bloodclaw,” Arikyali threatened, “or else!"

“Or else what?!”

“Or else…I’ll tell Kimva…”

Bloodclaw glared at her. “You’ll tell Kimva what?!”

Arikyali frowned. "I’ll tell Kimva it was you who ate the last banana and strawberry crumble!”

Bloodclaw froze. “…you’d…what?”

Arikyali raised her flowery eyebrows. “Oh yes,” she said. “And he’ll tell your whole warband …he’ll tell them how you really do like the sweet fruity pastries, filled with peaches and cream, and strawberries, and-”

“Okay okay!” Bloodclaw snapped, yanking his tail out of her hands and marching back toward the undead. “That…little…conniving…shrub-head…You better not tell him, or ANYONE, I actually ate those things!! Got it!?”

Arikyali grinned. “I wish I knew about this earlier,” she mused. “It could have saved a lot of trouble…”

“Hey!” Kimva called out from behind Arikyali, hopping down the hill. “Is…everything all right?” he asked. “I heard a lot of yelling. Mostly from Bloodclaw.”

“Oh, everything’s fine~” Arikyali replied, smiling sweetly.

“…Anything I should be concerned about?” Kimva asked, warily watching Bloodclaw bash another risen. He lifted his hammer with a mighty roar, and smashed it down, burying both hammer head and risen head in the sand.

“I’m increasing his restraining order from ten feet to twenty,” She replied. “He’s also not allowed to talk to anymore Sylvari. Except for me. He can talk to me.”

Kimva quietly watched the charr fling another risen back out to sea. “Right…everything is fine…” Kimva repeated skeptically. “Sure…”

A little story inspired by my friend. Hope you enjoy.

Bloodclaw growled. Why did he agree to come here again? He couldn’t remember. Maybe it was the all-the-meat-you-can-eat buffet he was promised. Or maybe he was drunk when he said yes. Or maybe that human elementalist and sylvari mesmer got together and cast some kind of weird magic spell on him.

Last one sounds legit. He mused.

He had agreed to follow those two to Caledon Forest. But everything around why, was a bit…hazy. Sure, the sweet scented flora wafting on salty tropical air was making him nauseous, and the shiny bright sun that could blind a skritt wasn’t helping either. Not to mention all the undead, screaming and moaning down at the shoreline below. They were just annoying.

Oh right, he thought. Arikyali wanted help in culling all the undead in her homeland.

Bloodclaw squinted in the distance, trying to spot the human elementalist among all the sylvari huts. Kimva wasn’t so bad, as humans go. Sometimes he even forgot the runt was human – save for the short stature and pinky flesh. Besides, this human was always quick to point Bloodclaw in the direction of a fight. He respected that out of anyone.

Bloodclaw grinned, claws already extending at the thought of getting back into a fight. He’d march right into that little plant village and drag Kimva out, if he didn’t have such a problem with the local sylvari. Or really, if the local sylvari didn’t have such a problem with him.

Arikyali had already forbidden him from getting within 10 feet of any sylvari structure. But it wasn’t HIS fault he got sick and tired of their sweet and sappy greetings. Seizing moments and ripening evils. Bah. All he wanted right now, was seizing undead bodies with his bare claws and crushing them. And to smell the putrid stench of ripening undead body piles roasting in the hot blazing sun.

He was enjoying the mental vision of carnage as two wardens walked up along the path behind him. “Hello,” one of the sylvari wardens greeted.

Bloodclaw jerked, awakened from his daydream. “Hey,” he greeted back.

The second warden smiled. “Seize the moment,” she replied.

Bloodclaw froze. “…do you all have to say that?” he growled.

The two wardens turned around. “Say what?” the first one asked.

The charr counted off from his extended claws. “Four out of every five Sylvari I run into says ‘Seize the moment.’ Or, ‘never let a wrong ripen into evil!’” His whiskers twitched. “Or better yet, ‘All things have a right to grow…’” he threw up his paws in annoyance. “It’s like I’m being preached by people I don’t even know!”

The second warden glanced at her partner in confusion, before looking back at the short-tempered charr. “They are the teachings of Ventari,” she replied matter-of-factly.

“Yeah, yeah. I know that,” Bloodclaw growled. “I know who he is, and how important his tablet is to you people. But I didn’t ask anyone to teach them to me!”

He rolled his eyes. “Can’t you just say ‘hello’ or ‘good morning?’ or some kind of other greeting like ‘nice weather’? Not some kind of preachy imperative?”

One of the wardens glanced at Bloodclaw and mouthed something to her partner, to which he merely shrugged. “Well,” the second warden asked, “What good is a greeting if it doesn’t have any meaning behind it?”

Bloodclaw’s ears flattened. Arikyali would kill him if he attacked a Sylvari. “Well for starters,” he growled, keeping his voice as steady as possible and trying to regain composure, “it gives someone that doesn’t want to talk about the teachings of Ventari a chance to leave. Or ask you not to talk about them!”

The two wardens merely exchanged glances of utter confusion. “You know what? Forget it,” Bloodclaw growled.

“Well, as you wish, Traveler,” The first warden replied. “Seek, and you shall find.” With that, he and his partner continued off.

Bloodclaw’s fur riled up. “Argh!! Can’t you just say ‘bye!?’”

Bloodclaw shut his eyes. “Don’t lose temper, don’t lose temper, don’t lose temper and squish the squishy plant people…”

In the distance, Arikyali was heading back up the road. As the wardens passed her, Bloodclaw could hear one of the Sylvari wardens greet her. “May the stars guide you.”

“Don’t….lose….temper….” he seethed.

Arikyali smiled and nodded back. “Go where life goes.”

Consortium Conspiracy...

in Living World

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

Well, I’m admitting it’s a conspiracy theory right away. >.>;

Based on the hidden messages in Diessa Plateau and Wayfarer Foothills, you get the interpretations that the alliance between the dredge and flame legion is likely one they didn’t come up with on their own. They don’t really get along well with each other. Example, one of the charr shamans was ‘burned alive’ for not giving a ritual to the chosen dredge. Something must have made them join forces, but as to what, is unknown. But according to the agent(s) reports, an external force must have influenced them to group together.

Now, the consortium at Lion’s Arch seems to be up at something. They are a business organization, yet out of the “kindness of their heart” they are helping refugees, giving aid, provisions, and whatnot. Then they come along with an offer of a ‘fresh start’ followed by a long lengthy contract. And depending which member you talk to, they are either full of public grandeur, or just downright rude and nasty….their attitudes reek of a gimmickry.

Now they could just be taking advantage of the situation to hire charr-and-norn muscle power. Likely an investment in Southsun Cove. Clear out karka to make room for hotels? Meh. As long as they don’t destroy the passiflora ecosystem, there probably won’t be too many complaints. What’re the chances that they cause another major disaster?

Anyway…

What doesn’t follow is that the molten alliance is taking prisoners for ‘weapons testing.’ Unless the consortium is creating its own army (mercenaries could bring in money) it doesn’t add up. And as to why the consortium would even be interested in a desert, or freezing mountain range, who can say.

And completely unrelated to the consortium, there is something disgusting underground, although it’s never given much detail as to what it is. 6th dragon theory anyone? It makes more sense than calling the pale tree a dragon.

Perhaps there is simply a mutual agreement between the two parties. We suggest you two work together, and we’ll give you methods to be more organized, and more powerful, as well as funding. In exchange, invade these two maps and send refugees to us. We get our workers, you get land to do whatever you want. And hey, if it works out, both parties can flourish and reap the benefits.

I’ll admit..it’s not a solid conspiracy theory. At all. But I’m still gonna watch out for them to see if anything fishy happens.

Mesmer Decoy Clone

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

I can’t say if this is directly a bug, since the skill was changed with the invisibility update. But it doesn’t seem to be working as intended anymore.

In the past, casting Decoy creates a clone, and grants stealth to the player. The enemies loses its target on the caster, and targets the clone instead. I know this was how it works in PvE, but I’m not sure if it works the same in PvP. (I don’t know if the targeting was automatically switched for the enemy player, or if they had to re-target the clone themselves.)

After invisibility was changed, casting Decoy does not lose aggro. the clone generates, but the enemy’s targeting doesn’t switch over to the clone. It continues to attack the caster, who is invisable, unless the clone does enough damage to pull aggro to itself.

Decoy can’t be used to escape close deaths, or to avoid fights while fleeing. It’s more of an extra clone generator now.

they havent changed anything to how invis works. channeled abilities have always been able to hit stealthed targets if they use the skill before you stealth.

But they don’t lose target on the caster, and move to the clone anymore.

I’ll try to give feedback another try. I tried casting decoy before they aggro, but then the clone dies off too quickly to be helpful. And even while still invisible, they attack.

If he did say something I didn’t see it – was paying more attention to the fight then to the chat.

Ever since they changed how invisibility works, the decoy skill just seems useless in PvE now. It’s supposed to create a target for the enemy and let you escape, right? But the enemy just keeps attacking you instead.

I use it on gathering runs to distract enemies. Dualed with Crippling Dissipation (cripples enemies when a clone is killed) it was really useful – especially since mesmers don’t have a reliable speed boost.

Does anyone have a workaround for this?

Arikyali.5804

I know there’s an etiquette deal to leave a warrior’s banner alone..but what about elementalist’s weapons? I’ve seen people grab them in WvW without any complaints. And as a mesmer without many aoe options, swapping to a temporary aoe-induced weapon would just be more helpful to everyone else anyway.

What happened was during an event in the open world, an ele spawned a fiery greatsword. We were getting mobbed with a flood of monsters. After waiting a bit to see if anyone else would grab it, I picked it up and started using it.

The ele who spawned it just got mad at me…(mad enough to say something that got censored out, and whisper me after the event to tell me how rude I was) But I asked friends and guildies and they said it’s not such a big issue. I haven’t played ele enough to use those weapons, but I don’t think I’d care so much for someone to grab the extra as long as they help in the fight.

So what’s the etiquette rule here? Grab it or leave it alone?

How do the percentages on the runes and sigil add up on gear? For example let’s say I crafted exalted armor, giving the entire set with 18% magic find. Then I add in a Superior Rune of the Traveler to each piece. What % of magic find do I have? Are they all added up (18% + 25% = 43%)? Or do the superior runes count each magic find stat used (10%15%25%=50%) and then added to the armor (50%+18%=68%)? Or are the calculated in a different way? (18% + (25% of 18% = 4.5%) = 22.5%)

Same question for jewelry: with an Opal Orichalcum Ring of the Explorer, it gives +3% magic find, and the opal jewel, +4% magic find. Is that just 7% magic find total?

I also read somewhere that it was worth getting over 100% magic find to increase changes of rare loot…any truth to that, or just rumor?

I forget where in the grove, but I remember overhearing two sylvari talking about their destinies. One had a wyld hunt, and the other was still undecided. The undecided one was a bit ‘jealous’ at the wyld hunter, to which she replied, “having a wyld hunt doesn’t make me any more special than those without. Can someone tell me how to properly use clones in a PvP environment to confuse the opponents? I’ve only fought against one mesmer who did a darn good job of making people confused on which was a clone and which was the caster. Most of my clones end up on shatter skills.

I first assumed it was spamming basic skills and avoid dodging to give it away, but it never works out. Anyone who recognizes when a clone is created and what skill was used to create it, can pinpoint the actual caster. Or better yet, whack a clone and see that you’re doing way too much damage, and move on until you find the actual caster. There has to be a way to use clones to keep people guessing and leave you alone, because I’ve seen it done before (albeit only once).

Spreadsheet help for crafting and marketing?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Arikyali.5804

Arikyali.5804

I am trying to create a spreadsheet to calculate crafting values on the market, but so far the way it’s set up is…messy. If anyone out there is market savvy and excel savvy, I’d greatly appreciate a little input (no pun intended).

1. How would you suggest grouping items? Based on components or type? Example, as a jeweler, is it easier to group them based on jewelry type, (necklace earrings etc) or components to craft them (all rubies together, emeralds together, etc)

2. Is there a formula/code to link to the market’s prices? I’ve found sites that list the current prices on the BLTC, and instead of having to plug in prices manually, it’d be easier if I could just link the values to the spreadsheet.

3. Money values. Usually I convert the monetary values into silver for simplicity’s sake. But that makes 1 gold = 100 silver. Is there a format/formula that can accommodate gold/silver/copper?

4. Ectoplasm throws off my tables and gets stuffed in the middle of them. Usually I take the raw material pricing, convert them to their refinement, and keep calculating until it gets to the end product. Then I set up a formula to compare what’s the cheapest way to make an item. But ectoplasm is technically a raw material (not crafted) and not refined the same way as other materials. Is there a better/less cluttered way to set up a table that includes ectoplasm?

5. Sometimes components are worth more than the end product, so I also want to make a table for that too. Is there a way to keep them on one spreadsheet, or best to just separate them completely? The problem with separating each component from the end product, is it ends up with a LOT of pages. (and a lot of page flipping for linking formulas together). There has to be a less complicated way.

6. More marketing than spreadsheet: I haven’t included salvage material in my spreadsheets because simply…that’s a lot to work out. But might it actually be useful to consider buying stuff to salvage to get the raw materials?

7. Can you suggest a formula to account for mats already owned from gathering, and subtracting it from the total cost of production? I can guess buying everything, making it, and selling it back isn’t going to make much profit, so naturally I’ll need to farm some stuff myself. But should I subtract these already owned mats as raw products, or refined? Since these are also gathered, I’d also put in the cost of gathering tools, despite how small. But another question, can one strike (use) gather more than 1 material? If yes, how do you calculate for that?

8. I know there must be a ‘true/false/if’ formula in excel. I want to set up a ‘shopping list’ that can tell me what to buy off the market based on what’s cheapest. But I’m having trouble setting it up. I know how to set up the min value price but I can’t find the formula that links the min value price to the item. What is the formula called?

That should be everything for now. I’m not asking for someone to reveal their ‘marketing secrets’ to me, I just need help creating a spreadsheet. GW2’s system is complex…

No mounts means more exploring, and bigger world. And waypoints used as money sinks for people who don’t like to explore.

There would be a market impact for account wide dyes. The cheap dyes aren’t a problem, and there’s a lot of forgiveness for newbie mistakes ingame already. My first thought was I’d just get another Abyss dye later. Then I saw its pricetag. Hm…

Mistakes happen. It’d be nice if there was something to undo it, instead of forking over plenty of gold for cosmetics. I’m still new-ish, and the gold I do have now isn’t going into abyss dye funds yet.

Give a finer description on human descendants for the dead sister storyline. Now I have a Canthan thief and an Ascalonian Seraph for sisters.

They’re totally blood related. Honest.

Home Instance: Future Plans?

I really would love it if they tweaked the home instance a bit more. My only regret for my human thief was making her and the sister Ascalonian. I was going more for an Asian/Canthan decent. Not that it really matters since I can’t find Debs anywhere.

I also can’t find Quinn, that ingrate. I save his butt so many times and he can’t even show his face to me anymore? Maybe he’s too ashamed…not like Riot Alice can say anything about it. All she says is ‘hi’. But that’s better than ditching a friend who saved your life.

I think there were one or two instances where a sylvari discovered their wyld hunt after they awoken.

Perhaps I’m mistaken. But I did get the vibe that no matter how small, every task was just as important as a wyld hunt.

I can bet they won’t do that because it’ll hurt the market.

Not that I’d disagree with it….didn’t Anet mention they’d be account based in the first place?

I can guess this has been brought up before…but replying on the most recent thread about it, would just be a necro.

Could there be some way to have a dye transfer? Maybe an item to re-bottle the dye, but it remains account bounded, so it doesn’t end up back on the market. then it can be easily transferred between characters. I know a lot of people would like this. (And in my case, as long as it’s cheaper than paying 20+ gold for an abyss dye, I’d buy it.)

When I started I was one of the lucky few to actually find the rare Abyss dye. I was under the impression that dye was able to be used on the entire account, and not bound to one character. So I unlocked it for my mesmer, thinking I’d get to use it on my thief. Nope…Now the only way I can get Abyss dye again is to make the gold to buy it. I don’t even want the abyss dye for my mesmer.

Arda Gyreshriek, the pilot in Blast from the Past.

Fighting through the risen and finally finding her, only to see her die. That was the last straw! Zhaitan is going to pay for every npc death.

I guess there’s less dislike for him if you start as a sylvari yourself. Can’t remember, but I think he shows his face earlier to the sylvari than to the other races, so he’s not mercilessly shoved into the personal storyline.

To me, he came off as a guy who was unsure of his destiny or his place in the world, with little hope of achieving his wyld hunt. He didn’t even believe in himself to become a commander without some prodding from the pale tree and the main character. Only after seeing how things were working out, did he get his confidence boost.

And at the end, he doesn’t go after Zaitan because that’s not his destiny calling – it’s the sylvari’s main char’s wyld hunt. He’s done his job of purifying the land, a task he never thought possible. So therefore, it’s his job to keep working to cleansing Orr.

He’s a really quiet, secluded (and depressed) guy, with a profound outlook on destiny and purpose. But only if you’re sylvari. :p

My two sylvari names are: Arikyali, and Ademisifi. They have no connections to plants whatsoever. I just made them up. ^^
