mhmmm… just read that you have trouble even without hi-res textures… maybe different cpus/components are affected in different ways and I am simply lucky with my c2d and my GFs i5-2500. AMD-Issue, maybe?
Nope, it’s not AMD. I had problems with the hi-res issue and I’m all AMD (cpu, chipset, gpu) and disabling that fixed my FPS issue.

So what can go into the “unused offensive infusion slot” another versatile infusion?
Yes.

Sorry, but I’m going to have to correct both of you.
The +5 versatile infusion can go into any infusion slot. The +5 agony resisitance infusion — as in, it only grants agony resistance and nothing else, can only go into infused items. The only pieces of equipment that can be infused are backpieces and rings, and thus are the only pieces that can accept agony-only infusions.
The first responder was correct, he only left out the part about those pieces needing to be infused.
It was a bug that occurred after the last patch, reported many times, and never fixed.
Yeah, implemented to stop gate rezzing and mesmers leaving their body lying around while a thief perma-stealths inside a keep waiting to res them. It’s a good change.
What’s not a good change: the camera now automatically adjusts itself to the “death view” — which is what it normally does when you’re first defeated — every 10 seconds or so. Very annoying, especially if you’re trying to watch a fight going on around you.
Retal has definitely increased in the damage it does. At about 2500 power I was doing 26x of retal pre-patch, now it appears to be in the 300s (with an unknown number of might stacks up, but in the low teens, I was popping off retal numbers in the 380 range).
Very nice, enjoyed the music too. Do you record at 60 fps? Or at 30 and use frame interpolation for slomo? Looked very smooth, just curious.
I play on Northern Shiverpeaks and a couple week ago we were wondering if we’d squeak into Silver League. Now it appears that we’ll be ranked 13th going into the tournament.
Most likely to be in Silver League:
1: Crystal Desert/Maguuma (up to RNG gods)
2. Yak’s Bend
3. Dragonbrand
4. Stormbluff Isle
5. Devona’s Rest
6. Isle of Janthir
7. Northern Shiverpeaks
8. Henge of Denravi
9. Borlis PassShould we be expecting to have to face DR/SBI/DB/YB/CD? Or is it highly likely that we get grouped with IOJ/HoD/BP over and over again?
And, if we do somehow match up against DR or SBI, what will we be getting ourselves into? :P
I’m from HoD. It’s possible you’ll face a higher tier server than IoJ, since we can and have beaten IoJ with fewer numbers than we have now. Considering how well you’ve done against us, I wouldn’t rule it out. There’s also the bizarro chance of IoJ dropping a tier because of how hard you’ve been pushing the glicko and how they’ve continually lost, which would push us to bronze in the final hours approaching the tourney. CD/DB/SBI swap with Maguuma. HoD goes bronze. We haven’t won a match since the previous tourney.
If the ratings are not locked, and I’ve yet to see a confirmation on this, a silver bump to gold and a silver drop (us) to bronze are slightly possible. The latter being far less likely since we’ve been losing a lot less this week (being ahead of BP several times after coming back from an 8k deficit) so we’ll just have to wait and see which way the RNGods sway.
But with IoJ doing better than the glicko prediction this week, I’m not sure. It’s a bit odd that GoM dropped in the way they did, given that they were beating the pants off of us and BP until BP got its Mag transfers, and then in our final matchup us coming in second and pushing them to bronze.
A lot of strange isht happens when you mix glicko and RNG.

You can go to EotM, for example, and take supply from there right back to regular WvW. Defenders can port in every 3 minutes to a waypointed keep under attack with inventories full of siege disablers and shut down any rams, catapults, or golems indefinitely. Defense runs out and kills everyone.
If defense has enough people to wipe the attackers, there’s no point in disabling the siege. Disabling the siege is only useful to gain some time for the defense to arrive and wipe the attackers.
On the counter side, build 10 omegas and have an entire zerg load up on siege disablers, they don’t even need to get close to shut down an entire structure’s defensive siege inedefinitely. Golems walk in and nuke everything and everyone in sight.
What’s stopping defenders from disabling the omegas?
And the third option: complete stalemate. Infantry beats down the doors by hand, defense rushes everyone outside until there’s nobody left, one side or the other.
If there’s no attackers left, the structure is defended. I don’t see your point here…
I don’t know how you could read that entire post and miss the point of… everything. Option 1: defenders win
Option 2: attackers win
Option 3: most likely scenario. Usage of siege disablers on both sides causes a stalemate. This either forces two things:
a) There are not enough defenders to jump out and wipe the attackers, but enough to disable their siege, so the attackers PvD the gates down with their bare hands until they’re in. Attackers win.
b) Defenders have enough people to take out the attackers whether it be by added numbers to the structure or people already inside due to neither one being able to defeat the other via siege. Defense rushes out, kills everyone, succeeds in stopping the attack. Defenders win.
Is that clear now? You should really read the thread where that post takes place in. Just click on the quote, it’ll take you right to it.
Since the patch I saw an awful lot of back-and-forth, first with a 5 omega rush where they disabled our cannons first, then we disabled the golems and rushed out and meleed them, fell back, were able to get on cannons for a few seconds and fire off a few shots, cannons were then destroyed, golems hid in swc while they built ballistas on top of the arch to kill people on bay wall (couldn’t be reached with siege disablers), defense finally rushed out after gaining enough numbers and killed them. So I suppose it was option #3 — it was a stalemate until defense just jumped out and rushed.

Untick High-Res Character Textures. That’s what’s causing the problem right now.

Guys, it’s the High-Res Character Textures setting. Untick it. It’s messed up right now. Your framerate should go back to pre-patch levels.

So, to play around with things, I deleted my local data from Users\MyUsername\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2\
So that gave me a fresh autodetect start. Oddly, no hitching, no terrible FPS. So I started to switch things back to my original config and run back and forth between the same two points over and over to see if I observed a change. Everything was fine, until I tried enabling High-Res Character Textures.
Autodetect put High-Res Character Textures unchecked by default. Turning it on immediately caused the FPS to drop and massive stuttering/hitching. The odd thing is, it doesn’t actually take effect without a map change/restart, yet just having the option checked without changing maps causes the FPS to plummet. What’s the problem here? I suppose I’ll just run around with everyone else’s characters looking like washed-out crap until you guys fix it. Seriously, on a rig as powerful as mine, I shouldn’t have to disable this setting to get a framerate that’s anywhere decent. I’d also like to know why checking this option without changing maps causes the framerate drop when it doesn’t even change character texture resolution unless I do.
Well Anet, there’s your starting point. Have fun.

The update has completely nuked my FPS. Where I used to be doing 30-40 FPS (Hoelbrak for instance) I’m now doing 10-20 FPS. I even tried out “best performance” mode and can only get it to run at 26 FPS. The only way I can top 30 FPS is by looking directly at the floor in this mode.
Game’s basically become unplayable at anything other than “best performance” and even then in WvW hitting an enemy zerg the framerate drop makes it impossible.
Using an Nvidia 660M 2GB video card, and an i7 CPU.
Radeon R9 290x here, pretty much top of the line. 5ghz 7850k AMD CPU. So it’s not brand or card specific, both of us are essentially using opposite hardware.
Effin’ solid work, Anet.
Bumped. Only 7 hours and it’s on page 4.
“Did Arenanet check their update?”
No. Next question?

Yes. The major performance improvements they added to the patch? Working exactly the opposite as intended. Clearly it was all well-tested before it went out the door.

Welcome to the future, comrades.
New trick consumable: Siege Disabler that disables enemy siege for 45 seconds and golems for 20 seconds. Cost of 10 supply and a 1200 range. That is the new defensive/offensive trap for the feature pack. Stops Rams/AC/Golem for a good ammount of time at least until supply runs out or you run out of traps.
It gets a little more complicated than that. You can go to EotM, for example, and take supply from there right back to regular WvW. Defenders can port in every 3 minutes to a waypointed keep under attack with inventories full of siege disablers and shut down any rams, catapults, or golems indefinitely. It sounds like insanity.

It’s absolutely terrible. I’m seeing this as well:
Ark BladesteeleFramerates have absolutely plummeted for me. They’re bad even when I’m alone in my home instance. Compared to pre-patch, which ran like butter, this game now looks like a 2008 game and runs like a 2015 game. How the hell do you guys continue to screw things up this bad?
I went into WvW and was running with a fairly typical person group and was barely breaking 10 fps. In a zerg battle, slideshow. It was so bad that at one point every single person actually disappeared from my screen (no, it wasn’t mass invis or a veil, lol) for 5 seconds and then suddenly popped back in.
I use process lasso, so GW2 is always running at above normal priority. Shutting down process lasso to see if it was the culprit did not solve anything.
Also, this:

My game experience is not a pleasant one anymore. Do you guys stress test any of this garbage at all or do you just wing it and pray everything works?

It happens with revive and build as well. GG, Anet.
So, after updating, I am experiencing some serious hitching and stuttering while even just moving around an empty map — or even inside my home instance. I thought we were supposed to get some pretty major performance improvements? Framerate is not a problem, as it never falls below 60, so what’s going on here? I’m sorta hoping this is some sort of new caching system, much in the way prefetch works in Windows, and that once I’ve come across a certain piece of art, character model/texture/whatever, it’s cached for quick access, but I see nothing that leaves me to believe that.
My rig is not an issue.
AMD 7850k OC’d to 5ghz (IPU turned off)
Radeon R9 290x
16GB DDR 2100 RAM
256GB 600M/490M read/write SSD
No such problems pre-patch. Guild members reporting similar behavior. What on earth is causing this?
Sanctum, we have one commander during SEA time that regularly drops 5 guild catas for paper structures, just because he can. It’s pretty common. XD
It’s not natusch I swear!
There you have it. One commander during SEA in EBG. That’s pretty unheard of on Borders during NA prime. Not that we wouldn’t do it. We just don’t do it on off weeks… or any week actually because we don’t run those kind of numbers normally.
Is it really that unheard of? We always have one SEA commander on float, and he’s quite good at getting things done whether it be EBG or Borders. And NA prime? We almost always have a commander in every border. We don’t necessarily have a ton of people to back each one up, but we’ve tried to get a running rule: if you have a tag and in you’re in a map that doesn’t, you pop it. People like to see tags. People see a tag in a map, and they’re more likely to stay. When you have folks popping in and saying stuff like “Hello? Anything happening in here?” we feel there’s something wrong. And this isn’t just NA prime or SEA or whenever, it’s always.
I think only one person really understood why a warrior would do this, or rather, why any and all classes do this:
a) It’s a valid tactic used to reset a fight. Much in the same way that a thief will stealth or use SR, it’s to provide some space for healing or to simply retreat from a fight that you are sure you are going to die in. Do you sit there and let people kill you if you have no chance? Getting away isn’t cowardly, it’s smart.
b) I’ve used GS rush and WA many times to bait people. I have picked off entire groups of 10 or more one or two at a time by having them chase, one or two getting really close, and then I swap to either my hammer or axe with a sigil of hydromancy that effectively roots them for 2 seconds and go to town. One down. Who’s next?
c) If you are not smart enough to realize when it’s simply time to get the hell out of dodge, and you’re willing to die for no reason, that’s your problem. Every player of every type of class I’ve come across has used various ways of escaping me, and it’s usually when they’ve taken a few hits they know they can’t manage long-term. Elementalist swaps to earth for stability and then air and flashes the hell out. Necro switches to lich or plague form and says cya! Mesmer spawns clones and phantasms, swaps and blinks, veils and gets away. Engi, holy crap, ever see an engi traited for mobility make an escape? You can chase one around the map ten times over. Ranger, came across one today that used his skills brilliantly. He would tap about-face, hit lightning reflexes, then tap about face again. Sword 2 and GS 3 to get even further away. He was completely uncatchable. There were 6 of us and one of him. He used his brain and evaded death while we tried helplessly to chase him down halfway across the map. Thief? I don’t think I even need to mention thief, do I? Guardians will pop Retreat, Save Yourselves, invul, and sometimes even a book not to speed away, but to stop you from being able to kill them before they get to where they’re going (usually leading you right into the group just around the corner that you foolishly chased him alone into).
A smart player uses these various methods of escape for a lot of different reasons. Oftentimes, if you see me using Rush, I’m baiting you. Come after me, do it. Break away from your group to chase me. Then I’ll turn around and crack your skull open. Your fault. Not mine.
When I first started playing WvW, I used to think the same thing: cowards. Why do they run? The longer I played, the more I understood. It’s a very simple thing: if you want to sit there and die for no reason whatsoever, I mean really knowingly die, you haven’t learned to be smart enough not to yet.
Catch me if you dare can.
They have said that all ability points will be reset before the tourney.
I hope so too. I take pride in conservative use of burst skills and adrenaline management, and with the immediate adrenaline falloff after leaving combat and loss of adrenaline on miss it’s going to make Warriors not nearly as noob-friendly anymore (goodbye Earthshaker nikes, nice knowin’ ya). I am looking forward to the new GS burst, though, a 5 target AoE executioner skill that still grants fury — I can get on board with that.
Not to mention what’s happening with Whirling Axe — with Sharpened Axes it gets the same CD as HB, a 17% dmg increase, it’s mobile, and it’s a finisher. With HB dmg getting nerfed 5%, and adrenaline becoming more scarce, an offhand axe on one of my sets may actually have its place. Dual Attack will still be junk aside from a little bit of fury, but with Whirling Axe’s dmg boost and CD reduction it may very well be the new HB.
I think that this change will make no huge extreme change for good Warriors that knows allready how important it is to land burst and manage adrenaline, allthough it will notch it up even a bit further.
But where it will make a huge difference is to bad/mindless warrs that now can get away with being bad. That won’t be the exactly the case after patch. It will be alot more punishing to miss a burst. I think it will be a great change.
That is exactly my point.
In EotM, sentries serve this purpose, along with sentry turrets — enemies will show up as orange dots in the same way. I’m guessing it’s a bug carried over from that system that somehow crops up in real WvW.
I actually wouldn’t mind seeing this implemented for sentries in the WvW mainstay; I think it’s kinda neat.
Was all your gear exotic? Unfortunately people sometimes run around in rare backpieces and trinkets. How much armor do you have? Do you have a decent rune set and not the random stuff you get in karma gear before the recent change?(I think the runes were assorted) Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Most people run 3 runes (monk, water and another IIRC). ALthough I am adamantly opposed to it and reccomend soldiers.
Hoelbrak, Strength, Melandru, Pack, Exuberance are the other most common I see.
Warriors will almost entirely drop out of the meta due to adrenaline changes. This change raises the skill floor so much that the current nike warrior noobs bolting around will be losing out on their combat ability by a wide margin as every roamer other then warrior has evade spams/stealth/protection boons, their bursts and adrenal health will no longer help them like it has been doing for a long time now.
You think so? Maybe. I’ve been running warr since beta and I hate the noob stamp Warrior has gotten and the amount of warriors in WvW. I hope you are right.

Yeah, it’s not in your head. You have to remember that as we fell all those tiers down to where we are now, though, that the servers we faced on the way were all servers that got beaten severely in the tourney by us, when we were the stacked bandwagon server that went undefeated. People hold grudges. Some, for a long long time. It will be interesting to see if a similar situation arises with what’s going on with a couple other bandwagon servers at the moment, but we’ll just have to wait on that.
This week has been pretty fantastic, though. Lots of good fights all around, although GoM hasn’t made much of a showing aside from vulturing paper targets and such that we and BP leave behind for them.
Anyway, matchup thread, inb4lock
Not an exploit. Cheap trick, but not an exploit.
pretty much if this is an exploit so it is the cata spots that damage walls w/o hitting anything nearby that wall.
That’s called splash damage, and isn’t remotely close to gate rezzing.
I’m trying to figure out how smaller groups are dropping meteor bombs into huge groups without instantly melting from the retal, because that’s generally what happens when I see it used in that way. Even more hilarious is when someone slams #4 Ice Bow into a zerg.
There’s the nifty utilities called Null Field and Well of Corruption. You should look into them.
I’m aware they exist, perhaps my opponents should look into them.

I just read every single post on here and on another thread for the past hour or so and I believe that the OP was innocent and that unicorn girl should be banned.
Old news I know. Just letting you know how I feel.
Ark, when you say BL, do you mean Badlands? If so, I’m in Darkhaven and I see you guys all the time in EoTm xD
In EotM, Badlands is made up of a multitude of servers that are red for this week’s matchup. By BL I mean Borderlands.
Well you get around. I didn’t connect it to you thinking “Ark is common name, that ain’t him”. You’re a good commander and a nice person as far as I’m concerned.
Think we were in TA/VLK together? You might be in my current guild as an ally. I run with you in WvW now and then.
Small world. Give the Hoelbrak kitten Squad hell. I might be on a bit later.
Thanks
. I didn’t see your account name in any of my guild rosters, so it may have been a past guild. I wasn’t a part of TA or VLK, but I ran with them pretty often. Many of them make up what [HoD] has become today. I’m not commanding as often as I used to mainly because I’ve been running as a non-driver in skill groups, but I’ll be back to commanding BL defense again in the tourney so you’ll see the tag often. Looking forward to what’s coming in WvW soon, although I have a feeling I’ll be beating back a lot more omega rushes than even before *mumbles something about golem mastery*
UnicornGirl has intentionally tried to disrupt any and all organized player events for as long as I can remember, hiding behind the guise that she’s “not trolling” or “griefing,” despite actions like this:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Griefers/first
…wherein she intentionally tried to cause gold Boss Blitzes to fail by bringing a character named The Greefer into gold instances and either burning bosses early or pulling mobs from the boss areas into the players to make it more difficult to get the burn timing right.
Goodbye, good riddance, (not) nice knowin’ ya.
Hm. Something like an eye for an eye thing going on here. They’re doing this, so I’m gonna get back at them and do this.
The things she’s saying if they’re true aren’t fair to other people if these are the kinds of tactics some of the big guilds are using to do these events.
Not that her response was any better morally (no moral high ground for her), but I can see why she would lash out like that.
She was telling the truth about the Venturers of The Mists, there is proof.
On that precident I don’t see a reason to doubt her on this. If what you say is true and she did do those things in the CP, she’s certainly no saint herself.
If I must pick between King John or Robin Hood, I’ll always pick Robin Hood even if both are dubious characters.
She is 100% accurate about [EotM] and Venturers. I agree there. I do, however, disagree with her methods, and the ToS apparently do as well. I was in BBB, the guild she accused of doing all those things, and that’s not how we rolled. We were an easygoing guild, and yes, we did routinely do what we called a “purge.” When a purge was called, we would drop our tags and move to one corner of the map. Anyone could see us. We’d then wait about 15 minutes for all the people AFK at Wiggin/Pyro to leave — and I use “AFK” loosely, because they were not truly AFK, they would wait until the boss spawned and then hit autoattack from a safe spot (ledges), tab out or go do something else — this often caused early burns and eventually so many people were there that the bosses would scale higher than we could DPS them down within the gold time limit. For example, each boss, aside from Wiggin, had 1.2mil HP (Wig at 1.5mil) at a base number up to 5 players. After 5 players, the boss gained an additional 20% HP per player on that boss. If a person can’t make up that 20% damage, or isn’t supporting the others that are with waters, banners, etc, it leads to failures and eventually golds turn to silvers and silvers to bronze and the map implodes.
This is something that we learned doing BB hundreds of times, so generally after a really close call on a gold or a silver, we would enact a purge. We weren’t mean to anyone, and we offered free taxis in LFG to anyone who wanted to join. That was actually one of the guild rules — if you are a BBB member, you were NOT allowed to charge for a taxi. We wanted to get gold and we wanted to help other people get gold as well.
When UnicornGirl showed up as The Greefer and started sabotaging burns, people understandably got angry. Tight player organization and coordination was the entire aim of BB, and achieving gold was a fairly difficult thing to do without it. When a single person aptly named after the activity they were doing (i.e., griefing the entire instance with the intent of ruining it for everyone doing it) comes along, and then even decides to join our TS and taunt us under the guise of “I’m just playing how I want, deal with it” and so forth, how many of the people in our TS are going to be happy about it? That TS channel, until she came along, was an open TS — and then it got a password slapped on it.
She was reviled in BB, she crossed the line here by impersonating Anet staff, and she got what she deserved.
Well kitten me. Color me suspicious.
I remember playing with BBB on multiple occasions and the free taxi’s they provided. I was in the TS a few times and you guys were really nice folks overall.
More chitter chatty than I am, but nice!
I don’t know many people from TTS personally, but a few of my friends do. OT but are you the same Ark from TDF? HoD?
Yes we certainly had our chatty ones
. And yes I am the same Ark of TDF/HoD.

It’s been known since its original release months ago, and yes the axe has the same effect. It will modify the throw skill (when downed, or using throw axe) on Warrior, and I imagine it does similar things with Ranger and Necro.
Let me see if I can help you figure out the difference between framerate and “lag” (there are different kinds of lag, frame lag, network lag/latency, mouse lag, etc etc).
Are you saying that you get great performance, but you see people rubberbanding, or it takes a second or so for a skill to register and activate when you press it?
If that’s the case, neither has anything to do with the other. If your frame counter says you’re getting 90+ FPS but everything is choppy, that’s frame lag, and either your FPS counter is displaying the wrong frame information or there’s something else going on there that I can’t figure out.

Not a bug. Buy a matching sigil for one of your (equipped) underwater weapons, you are not entitled to use stacks from a weapon you gained said stacks on underwater if that weapon cannot be equipped underwater. The same goes for the reverse, the same goes for a rune on your helmet vs. the rune on your aquabreather.
Buy the sigil, climb off the cross, get over it.
I’m not entirely sure what I’m supposed to be looking for?
Skipping content? You know, when I first explored the world most of the map was a blurred mess, I didn’t have access to any waypoints, and I had to make my way through the content to get to them. Why does it seem like people forget that you didn’t automagically have access to all those waypoints right from the start, and if anyone just ran straight from one waypoint to another to unlock them, how anything would change if you threw some flying mount in there, or a horse, or whatever, because people would still just be speed running/flying past everything. It’s not going to change how people approach the game; if they want to skip content, they will, one way or another.
I suppose I’m coming from more of a perspective where we have 2 rams on a door most times, not 4. One ram will be dead when the gate hits 50%, and the other one will be dead before the door goes down. Something that we’ve been doing/I’ve seen others on our server doing is placing a cata out of any door treb radius while the 2 rams work it down, and the cata finishes it off. You do what you gotta do, I guess.
They’re not “fake crashes”. The programmers generally put asserts and checks in there that won’t necessarily kill the game instance but are serious enough that if they’re triggered, they’re issues that should be fixed. It may be annoying, yes, but that’s why we do it. Send the report, hope it gets dealt with (I can’t speak for ANet, but many companies do take these seriously) and move on.
In my personal experience, a lot of people aren’t that precise with their ram placement.
Sadly true, and all you have to do is look at good enemy placement of rams to figure out where they should go. Too many times I’ve come across rams that are thrown dead center of a door and 1 or 2 more piled up next to them.
That said, door trebs can knock any ram out if someone has the increased radius from mastery. There’s no “perfect” way to toss them.
EotM and troll siege? Who would have thought! No, but seriously, even in the early days it was like that. I’m just kinda surprised anyone bothered with superior anything.
