Do we really have to call it Minstrel gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I really dislike the idea of giving my elementalist a full set of Minstrel’s gear or stats implying that my elementalist is a Minstrel, one of the blackface entertainers that pretends to be unintelligent for laughs.

The minstrel was a medieval performer, not whatever you may have found via Google in more recent (racist?) American history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minstrel

I am quite aware of the term’s medieval roots designating a musician, but we don’t live in medieval times. That word means something else to many people today.

Only if you live in America. In Europe, it’s part of our cultural heritage.

It’s like saying that “Kung Fu” is now to be associated with a cartoon panda, only because, you know, “We live in the modern age.” C’mon now.

It’s tedious for me as well, per se, as I can’t see the excitement of WvW. But I have found a nice WvW community with really cool people, so the conversations and laughter make it a much less tedious task and even fun every now and then. I recommend you do the same. It takes about six hours to fill the reward track (with GH boost and WvW boosters).

Mashed potatoes for an excuisite meal that goes with wine? How uncultivated in the eyes (or rather, on the tongue) of any gourmet cook. Only Americans can suggest something like that.

Also, Jytar, I doubt that Norn eat mashed potatoes with their rustic meals.

Things that happened in the open world, such as the Tower of Nightmares or the Marionette fight would probably be impossible to bring back to the maps without much justification

First of all, the OP (as many others among us) suggested to make it all instanced, no need to “bring anything back into the world”.

Besides, there is quite a bit of illogical content in the current state of the world for those who have not played LWS1 and walk through those areas and just think, “What in the name of the Six is this???” (Like the ruins of the Nightmare Tower, many Fractals, the Toxic Events in Kryta…)

This game actually needs more normal looking (as in classy and nicely shaped) legendaries than all the crazy stuff we have. Please don’t add to the madness.

I would have loved to have had some of these skins used as legendary longbows, with special footsteps and some decent effects added: Ydalir (would have been my #1 choice!), Eir’s Legacy Bow, Storm Longbow, or a bit more exotic ones like the Shadow Bow, Corrupted Longbow, Araneae.

Opening chests, choosing stats > soulbound

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

The whole soul-binding process on exotics is completely illogical, because it is inconsistent. For instance, you need to get the guild weapon you want to form into a tenebrous/shimmering weapon with the character who knows the respective craft, because it is soul-bound on acquire (wth?). Applying runes/sigils also soul-binds your item, which IMO is illogical, too.

If they could make it so that items only soul-bind upon equipping them, for all exotics, that would really be a nice QoL update.

It can, however, be progressed (as opposed to what I first feared).

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

If you do pick it up, there are still plenty of former GW1 players with a lot of mats and random gear that they will never use that they might give away, I log in every now and then and give away Elite tomes, the odd mini etc, im sure if you asked you would get a good bit of help from those who enjoyed GW1, HM Vanquishing was great fun.

Thanks for the tip , but I did HM Vanquishing and 26 other difficult (but fun!) titles a long time ago. I left those out that I found annoying, because they were based on clicking, not actually playing the game and facing its challenges.

Its been awhile since I did it, but im fairly certain that ( if its still needed ) getting the Faction for Kurzick and Luxon is still the worst, its 10million faction for each.

Unfortunately, those two are closest to completion, alongside the Lucky/Unlucky gaming titles (forgot what they were called exactly). I could also use sweets and other consumables for titles I have not maxed.

Guild Wars 3, if it was to come to pass would more than likely be a completely new game set further into the present timeline because that makes sense.

I disagree. I believe, if GW3 was going to come to be, it would take place way in the past, back when the Gods had arrived in Arah and Orr was a prosperous place. Long before the dragons became a huge threat, when magic was still pure and very much alive. No high-tech Asura gimmicks, no stinky Charr machineries, but awesome, lush or dark, but always engulfing places to visit and explore, where adventure lurks around every corner, adventure is emitted through great story-telling (it’s the little things that count!), and not everything in the storylines has to be put on a “great scheme” level.

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

Not sure if this will matter to you or not, but GWAMM has nothing to do with HoM points.

Instead, you have to achieve 30 maxed in-game title tracks. This is enough of a daunting task since it usually involves doing every single mission in normal and hard mode, vaquishing every single zone, mapping the entire game to 100%, and a lot more.

50 HoM points give a completely different title.

I played GW from 2005 through 2010 and only reached 27/30 max titles. I am close to maxing three more, but I do not feel the desire to invest any more time and money into it.

At least, I received “Champion of the Gods” for maxing my HoM by 50 points.

If gw2 was launching today..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ashantara.8731

What would you want to change. What do you wish never happened at launch and what would you rework now if you could start over with a blank slate. What do you love about gw2 and would want to keep the same?

If they could start all over, I would request the following:

  • First and foremost, keep the qualified writer(s) you had in the beginning!
  • Second most important thing, continue with the Personality mechanic as well as the multiple path choice mechanic, so that storylines progress based on your choices (and possibly also on your race and choices made during creation)!
  • Add profession specific content that is only accessable to the respective class. Little quests and that sort of thing.
  • Stay true to GW1 in some aspects: 1. Remove the “your weapon dictates your skills” mechanic, 2. Re-introduce the concept of having new starting areas for characters created in an expansion, 3. Add new classes rather than elite specializations, 4. Maybe add a hero henchmen mechanic where you can use your other player characters as trusty henchmen with whom you can create your own full party.
  • On the technical side of things, put more NPCs into the core campaign’s missions. You hear a horde of people cheering during the celebration, and at least a hundred warcries during supposedly huge battle scenes, yet — with the limitations given to avoid lag — all those scenarios feel rather empty and lack the intensity of the moment.

Why did you pre-purchase Path of Fire?

I’ve seen a bunch of people who pre-purchased Path of Fire as soon as possible (even before the first demo started), so I wanted to ask why they already bought it.

Because I’m stupid. I never lose hope, no matter how often someone (in this case ANet) disappoints me. Also, a bit of curiosity was involved on where the story is going to lead us (I wanted to see if they will be able to make up past disappointments and the bad writing lately). Thus far, I am not particularly excited, and a part of me regrets having pre-ordered the expansion.

Thanks for all the input guys after much thought and consideration I decided that I will not buy GW1 at this point because it may very much be a trap for someone who desires HoM 50 points at this end stage life of the game. I will focus all my time in GW2 instead of wasting money on GW1.

I wouldn’t call it a waste. In some regards, it’s a better game than GW2 (the story-telling alone!). But I understand how it could be a time trap for you.

P.S. As for the money, you wouldn’t spend nearly as much as you spend in GW2, since the latter has a Gem Store.

From what I have heard, the actual implementation of LWS1 was anything but fun. This movie is just a recap and doesn’t translate the long and boring waiting periods between events that players had to endure until the next tiny bit of content (like conversations between the story NPCs) was delivered to them.

Hence it would be nice if ANet put some resources into turning this content into a LW season like the ones we currently have and enjoy. Unfortunately, as been said already in dozens of threads, this is unlikely to happen, which truly saddens me.

Creating a new GW game is not the solution. Getting better writing to enhance the story experience as well as professional help to implement new ideas in a better way would be the solution. These two posts sum it up best.

As for the engine, an update indeed wouldn’t hurt. However, the way the game seems to have been coded (as proven by all the bugs that occur everytime a patch is released, as well as all the bugs they still couldn’t get fix after all these years), it is unlikely they could ever handle an engine update.

-adding more classes will ruin the game

You are either trolling or relatively new to the game, as the unqualified “analysis” shows.

Guild Halls are not for “housing”, they fulfill a variety of other purposes. And why on earth would you want to have raids removed from LFG? Also, there are no new professions in the making, they introduced elite specializations instead with the HoT expansion.

Next time it wouldn’t hurt if you got your facts straight and educated yourself before posting.

Thinking about getting GW1 for HoM

I’ve been playing GW2 for 2 months now and just recently discovered about all the items one can get from HoM if they played GW1 in the past so my question is as a new GW2 player with no experience with GW1 at all should I buy GW1 just to farm those points?

You would have to play the game for years in order to get all those achievements required for the title and the skins.

I wouldn’t recommend it, at least not for that reason. However, if you want to experience the story for the lore and the fun that GW1 provided, then I definitely recommend you got the game.

[spoiler] A new Flameseeker Prophecy?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I finished my legendary weapon of the same name the other day and felt inspired to refresh my lore knowledge, as it has been a while since I played GW1:

https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Flameseeker_Prophecies

These things in particular caught my attention:

“The scriptures speak of the walking dead.”
“The war against the divine will begin soon. We must prepare ourselves.”
“An opening will be given to the disciples of the Unseen.”
“Long into the Season of the Scion, Tyria is revived again.”

There is the reference to “an opening” (the Door of Komalie). The reference somehow reminded me of the unstable rifts we have been encountering all across Tyria…

“War against the divine” (Balthazar), “the walking dead” (the Risen). “The Season of the Scion”, although back in the days of no such meaning, now instantly made me think of Glint’s scion, Aurene.

Also, there is the fact that the weapon’s precursor is named after those sacrificed by the White Mantle to the Mursaat, The Chosen. But this is also the name by which Glint addressed us in GW1 (“You are the Chosen I have been waiting for.”).

So, do you think a second Flameseeker Prophecy could be upon us?

After all,

  • The Scepter of Orr has recently re-emerged, through Livia, which played a huge role in the original Flameseeker Prophecies.
  • The Shining Blade have become a secret society which hides persons from the GW1 story-line in their midst.
  • Glint, through her offspring Aurene, is playing a role in the current events.
  • Balthazar represents and (figuratively speaking) breathes fire (like the Titans did) and is on a journey to re-establish his powers. So you could say he is a “Flameseeker”.
  • We are on our way into the desert. Will we have to ascend, like our ancestors, in order to defeat the rogue god?
  • A bit far fetched, but is it possible that Balthazar could seek out the Titans in an attempt to absorb their powers as well?

  • Start getting good equipment. Check MetaBattle for the most popular builds, although these might alter once the upcoming expansion is released.
  • Follow your Story Journal (to be found in the Hero Panel tab) and proceed with your personal story.
  • Get better acquainted with the game. GW2 Wiki is a good start.
  • Check you Achievement tab on the Hero Panel and see what else is there to do (which is plenty).
  • See if you might be interested in participating in events. GW2 Timer is the best site to get an overview over those.
  • Find a good, beginner-friendly guild.

Am I able to build my own house or collect appearance of armours?

There is no player housing in GW2. You can, however, enhance your Home Instance with all sorts of stuff.

Do I level another character? thank you

That no one can answer for you. I have 11 characters, many have 9 (one for each profession), but there are people with as much as 67 characters (I met such a player today in WvW), which IMO is just insane. It depends on your time and interest, as well as your wallet (as additional character slots cost quite a lot — Edit: Just saw they are currently put on a discount!
