Skimpy armor for male characters

Why are armors gender defined in any event? If its a body model issue, just create male and female versions of everything. How hard can it be?

Its a new world, Anet. Get with the program.

So much this.

[Suggestion] Idea: Solution to "trenchcoats"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

How about all chest armor pieces, whose length goes beyond the waist, have an option added where you can cut off (i.e., deactivate) the lower part of the armor piece?

Example: see screenshot #1, Aetherblade Medium Jerkin
.

I know that the “cutting-off” mechanic already exists, as many boots that are worn with certain pieces of leg armor are cut off from the ankle upward.

Example: see screenshot #2, Stately Footwear boots
.

P.S. I am aware that this is not doable with every “trenchcoat” model, but there are plenty with whom it would work.

One could rework the event so that the aforementioned “risks” are no longer an issue. Those so-called risks could only be regarded as an excuse not to do it, and that would be lame.

I would love this to be a world boss event. And even if everyone (including other players on the map who are not in the vicinity of the fight) happened to die (i.e., if that mechanic was not altered), that would make the event even better, because people would feel motivated to participate (besides, there are plenty of waypoints to use after death on that map).

Skimpy armor for male characters

As someone who plays heavy armor I wish there was skimpy armor for females.

Oh, gimme a break! There are enough “tiddy holder” sets.

Wow I thought this thread was a joke the first time I saw it.

How old are you to not understand the issue and the wish for equality?

A woman, or even some women, wanting something does not prevent it from being sexist. There are women who believe, or at least state that they believe, that women should be subbordinate to men. Sexist even if the person stating the belief is female.

Thank you. This is exactly the case.

So, as the OP already stated in their initial post, there are two options: Either stop creating armor sets where the female version does not equal the male one and is skimpy (thus sexist) in comparison (while the male couterpart fully covers the body), or start creating an equal amount of skimpy armor sets for male characters.

I’ve a question for those of you that are saying that the game is sexist for having some ‘skimpy’ armors for females: what do you say to female players, regardless of their own real life proclivity, that want there to be these types of armors for their female characters?

That is not the point here. The point is (a) to have alternatives, and (b) to have equality by providing the same amount of skimpy armor sets for male characters.

Which part of what the OP explained clearly did you not understand?

The armor choices for females are just awfully sexist or overly “femme” (which doesn’t fit an adventurer)!

Sorry, but, who are you to decide who or what fits an ‘adventurer’?

I did not “decide” anything, I voiced my opinion as a woman and as someone who has played a lot of RPGs (not just electronic ones).

Also… less tiddy holders for heavy armour. That’s not how plate armour works. It shouldn’t separate and define the tiddies, because that not only makes 0 sense but also makes a weak point in the armour. It’s like no armour designer has ever seen two boobs in the same place in their life.

Hahahahahahaha… OMG, thank you so much for this comment!

Sadly, this is so, so, so true. I had trouble finding decent heavy armor for my female Norn. Ridiculous “tiddy holders” indeed.

I guess we forgot that everyone is running around shooting magic out of their hands or something? How can an armor be unrealistic […]

That’s not really the point here. The point is taste. And many people prefer realistic looking heavy armor — the point not being the realism per se but the look. Tiddy holders just look ridiculous and their purpose is obvious. Also, why must the female version of an armor set look skimpy while the male version does not??

Out of every game I have played, Guild Wars 2’s art team has been the most obvious in its desire to give a variety.

Comparing GW2 with other games doesn’t make the point being made in this thread any less valid. (One of many reasons why I don’t play any of those other games is the sexist design of female characters. We have that, too, in GW2, just not to that extent. But it’s still a valid point to be made and to be heard by the devs.)

Hey, if it makes ya’ll feel better, that is exactly what we’ll get in PoF, everyone suffering equally:
http://dulfy.net/2017/08/09/gw2-upcoming-armor-outfits-and-weapons-from-path-of-fire/

I can see the trend of ugly (or badly executed ideas for) armor sets continues. Get a decent designer for this already!

At least some of the weapons look truly awesome. And so does the feathered hat! Excellent design — but I just checked the preview, and the hair is cosmetic and not the character’s own. The male toupé looks awful, so I am not going to buy that thing (which is a true shame… once more).

The name upon entering the instance is messed up. It used to say “Hero’s Canton (Home)”, but after the recent bug fix it now just says “Hero’s Canton”, without the “Home” appendix.

1. Continue with your story, including all available Living World seasons.

2. Strive for ascended gear, because it’s better not just for raids but in general. Also, what did you max the crafting disciplines for if not for that?

3. Check all achievements in the Hero panel and see what you would consider fun to do.

Guardian, without a doubt.

-not too complex (throw engi out already).

Skimpy armor for male characters

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

I don’t like skimpy armor for my female characters but I use them because it severely limits my choice of armor available to me if I am too picky.

It’s the reason why, as a female player (and no, I am not into men btw ), I play mostly male characters. The armor choices for females are just awfully sexist or overly “femme” (which doesn’t fit an adventurer)!

Also, the posture, i.e. the way female characters walk, sit and even stand, is ridiculous (and makes me want to call a chiropractor). I can’t take them seriously as heroines.

I have noticed that male armor always covers a majority of the characters body, a look I wish I had more of an option to work with.

Indeed. Not just for the cause of equality, but also for aesthetic reasons, I would like to see some male armor that shows more neck, a bit of chest, bare arms (biceps, forearms etc.). The whole “bare skin” thing is very one-sided in this game (the only male armor sets that do show more bare skin are the super ugly, primitive looking gladiator-themed sets, of which there are two if I recall correctly).

If I as a female player has to see female characters in skimpy armor then I’d really love to see skimpy male armor. Perhaps small shorts and a bare chest? I’m interested in seeing their rear ends as well. If I have to accept sexualization of the female characters then please sexualize the male characters with skimpy armor as well!

I second this sentiment.

Assuming they can be put into the Mystic Forge…

Forging them into what exactly? Another rare dye? If so, that wouldn’t help the folks that already have collected all the rare colors — unless those forged colors could be sold, but then you would still need four rare dyes, so people would either have to collect the account-bound ones or buy three additional cheaper rare ones.

I don’t know, that doesn’t sound good either way. I’d rather have them not be account-bound to begin with.

You got it all wrong: they decreased the amount of waypoints in PoF even further so you will have to use mounts, whether you like it or not.

Since you can configure basically everything with SweetFX, there is no one straight answer to this. It depends on what you want to change exactly (hue, saturation, sharpness etc.) that cannot be configured by your monitor.

I, for instance, stopped using SweetFX when I got a new monitor who could configure all the things I needed (and I can even save different profiles and activate each one at my convenience).

You don’t need to deactivate the Avast add-on — it is super good and saves you a lot of trouble!

What you need to do is this:

  1. Press the Windows key
  2. search for “Programs and Features”
  3. find “Avast Free Antivirus”, right-click and select “Change”
  4. select “Modify”
  5. uncheck “SafeZone Browser” and “SafePrize browser extension”, but leave “Security browser extension” checked (!)

It will uninstall the annoying add-ons but will leave your browser security add-on intact. That add-on is very helpful to identify fishy websites and keep your system save from harm.

Edit: I am attaching a screenshot so you see which extensions should be left unchecked at installation (some are useless as they only work when you buy a professional edition of Avast; also, for a system cleanup, use CCleaner).

LS1 Memory Box double acct bound drop

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

How do you know there’s no assistance available? How do you know that it was deliberate? Did you contact support about about the duplicates you received?

Because I have opened many chests in the past and have got a good handle by now on recognizing what type of item applies as “duplicate” and what doesn’t. How? I know the method that 100% avoids the duplicate bug to happen. When this method is used, dulpicates get replaced with 2 keys immediately.

I know that these memory boxes open differently, as they have no pop-up window. But here’s the thing I learnt from the (buggy) system: When you let the bug happen, the next time (i.e., the third time) you receive the item, the bug gets corrected and you receive keys in retrospect as well as for the newly drawn dublicate.

Since I opened tons of these memory boxes and the “self-fix” never occured, it is save to say that these items do not qualify as “duplicates” and the repeated drop is deliberate.

So, im new..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Just follow the story log and play the game on your level 80 character. You don’t lose anything from not starting at level 1. Your character’s level gets adjusted anyway when you enter a low-level territory, so no worries.

As for unlocking masteries, start with leveling your core-Tyria masteries first, and play the core game first. In order to unlock masteries in general (and the ability to level them), you are forced, though, to play through the first Heart of Thornes story mission, which is somewhat of a spoiler — do it anyway, then continue with the original campaign (you can switch between campaigns in your story log, which it the fourth tab in the Hero Panel).

P.S. Druid is not what you might be expecting based on other RPGs. ArenaNet perverted the Ranger into a pseudo-druid for group support with that elite specialization, because they refuse to get the Monk profession from GW1 back into the game. You can play a damage-dealing druid, but a condition damage-based vanilla ranger deals more DPS (with HoT’s Viper’s armor).

[Feedback]Path of Fire Elite Specialization Preview - August 18-20

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ashantara.8731

Ashantara.8731

Sorry, can’t do “100 words or less”:

Elementalist:
Pretty much the only new elite specialization I truly enjoyed. The idea of combining the last two elements used is brilliant and so much fun! It makes for a lot of diversity.
However, the fact that you can still only attune to two elements very much limits the strength of those combinations.

Revenant:
I would have wanted something like that for the Ranger! Geez, ANet…
Also, it would have been more fitting to exchange the heroes used in skills 6-10 with someone of the respective race you play and only leave the elite to be the Charr after which this is named.

Ranger:
Boring. Definitely strong in damage (especially with the new pets), but still a very weak execution of the idea, mostly for visual reasons. The Engineer looks spectacular (even “too much”), but this?
Also, now all professions seem to overlap and boost each other with boons — that totally destroys some professions’ actual purpose.

Necromancer:
Making something “different” doesn’t automatically make it more exciting. I simply didn’t feel the connection. Perhaps it’ll grow on me…

Thief:
Nice idea, but again, more complexity doesn’t equal “better”. I don’t see this elite spec work at all outside of raids where you have group tactics.
(P.S. Didn’t get what the black dots crowning the life force circle were all about.)

Guardian:
Cool animations!
The biggest downside, however, will be the lack of stability support, among other things.
The “tomes” altering the skills, well, that’s basically the Engineer’s mechanics. I’d prefer it if you wouldn’t intermix professions’ mechanics. It gets confusing, and at some point professions will have completely lost their unique flair.
(On a different note, what is it with you and conditions, ANet? Must every profession now use condition builds for the highest level of efficiency?)

Warrior:
Completely overpowered. Those boon removals and projectile shields will pose a huge issue in PvP and WvW.
Furthermore, a two-dagger build with skills like those would have fit the Thief! It looks silly on a heavy-armored Warrior.

Mesmer:
I have rarely played my Mesmer, so I am not an expert for this profession. However, the concept and execution for Mirage look very interesting and could be a lot of fun to play. I’d say this was my second favorite from the list of new elite specs.

Engineer:
The animations are completely over the top, especially in comparison to the other professions. This will make the battlefield look like an exploding firework factory (which is visually annoying and will give many players a headache).
As for the choice of weapons, I just don’t see an engineer with a sword and shield. Dagger and focus, maybe.

Then I assume it must indeed be what you were used to from your old screen, because — as was stated before — the sceenshots look fine, no pixelation whatsoever. I would also check the monitor settings, as ASUS has a built-in configuration technology. Maybe the sharpness is set too high up?

P.S. The wardrobe, like any preview window in the game, does not use anti-aliasing! That’s why it looks pixelated (because it is). This saves resources on your system and probably on the servers, too.

  1. Have you uninstalled the old monitor driver and installed the most recent one for your new monitor? (Yes, monitors come with drivers, too. )
