Again, increased supply does benefit (or adversely affect) the broader player base.

If prices on the TP go down due to the farm then even non HoT owners can benefit.

To clarify, my post was not meant to be a dismissive L2P jab, I hope it isnt taken that way. But, the reality is that HoT was released to challenge people who had been playing for years. I dont think that it will take very long for even a new player to adapt to the expansion content, but some degree of adaption will be necessary.

Perhaps posting build and gear might allow others to give advice?

To be honest, you might want to spend some time learning your preferred profession a bit better before moving on to HoT. The content in the core game doesnt really teach you much about playing well. HoT is supposed to be more challenging for play by those who have a better handle on their characters.

Thanks for the heads up Ayrilana.

Can’t say I am a fan of this idea. It locks the farm behind those who have access to ls3ep4 only and doesn’t benefit the wider playerbase. Better drops and salvage rates were the answer imo.

If supply increases then the wider playerbase benefits (or suffers) whether or not they have access to LS3-4.

Id love this. Id also be willing to pay for this. Having it be a consumable (weapon dyes?) would add something with repurchase value to the gem store. Having it be specific to gem store skins would be another approach (as mentioned above).

Its hard to justify buying gems when there is little or nothing of interest (to me) in the gem store.

I think that revisiting the content and additions to the store is in order. Eventually players will have bought all of the items with limited repurchase value that they need. Ive had my bank slots maxed out for years for example.

It’s ok to lose yourself on the map and explore the world, not for rewards or completion, but to enrich your imagination and find the little details you hadn’t thought of before.

It’s ok to go to dungeons or fractals with builds and classes that are what you enjoy playing first, and “optimal” second.

It’s ok to take the time and help someone in your party who is having difficulty playing, rather than flaming him and leaving to find another party.

It’s ok to not want to unlock every single item and achievement in game but rather those you like the most only.

It’s ok to consider 1000 hours of gaming a gigantic amount of time, and be happy enough doing dailies and a dungeon here and there a day.

It’s ok to lose an event or dungeon you had worked on for over an hour, and instead be glad you spent a great time with your friends.

It’s ok to not aim for legendary or ascended gear and instead enjoy the amazing content that is provided for nearly everyone with merely exotic gear.

It’s ok to enjoy figuring things out by yourself rather than using guides only to maximise efficiency.

Add more if you can.

Ok, glad you told us? I feel like this post was for your self and added nothing to anyone who read it!

And yet others were sufficiently inspired by the post to contribute in a similar vein. Perhaps you might consider speaking to what it added (or didnt add) for you rather than claiming that other received no value from it…after they have already made clear that they did.

So you are on your way to the store to get ice cream (Rocky Road) as promised for your significant other. Its a ten minute drive to the grocery store under normal conditions so you tell your SO that you will be back in half an hour with his/her favorite treat. Turns out there is an accident causing traffic to back up. You call your SO to let her know that you will be delayed getting back with the treat. The traffic turns out to be worse than you guessed, its going to be longer than you had already told your SO, so you call again to inform him/her of the increased delay. Right after you hang up the phone another car barrels into yours. You are injured and need to be taken to the hospital. Nothing serious but the paramedics want to be sure. Looks like no ice cream for your SO tonight.

When he/she gets the call from the hospital should he/she be angry at you for the delay? Should he/she be angry because you didnt tell him/her that you wouldn’t be getting the ice cream right at the beginning, when first leaving the house?

On a more serious note, the rain storms here on the US west coast have been pretty significant over the last few days and weeks. Flooding, warnings, etc. Hope everyone up at Anet’s home facilities is alright.

At least the drought’s over right?

No. It is probably relieved for the moment, but such a long drought won’t be over so quickly.

Now we wait to see what next year, the year after, etc is like. No amount of rain in one season really matters two or three years down the line.

Hmm, I can still level a character doing pretty much anything I want.

PvP has always been affected by who had the more powerful build. Perhaps post HoT meta has taken the OP’s preferred build from one of the top spots? I can understand it being frustrating to (perhaps) have been one of the OP few farming others and now to be the farmed.

Seeing as the OP said that “When you upgrade to HoT you’re straight up forced to never be able to do any of the original Tyria dailes ever again”, i doubt it was just a problem with not being clear enough.

The OP is very clear in his wording. It was not a matter of accidentally being unclear, it was an obvious attempt to mislead by stating a complete falsehood as fact.

Sorry to ruin the mood, but I want to say something about the dailies. Logging in and doing the same thing over and over nearly ruined the game for me. If you play gw2 for the dailies only, play mobile game instead. I just can’t stand this mentality to force yourself login and doing the same thing over and over, especially if you don’t have a certain goal in mind. The game will get boring quickly. I was at this point and I stopped playing for 1,5 years.

Thankfully a friend brought me back, and learned how to pvp. We played a lot of games and eventually became decent.
Before HoT came out I set myself the goal to craft all HOT legendaries(even if I did not own a single legendary before). I farmed quite a lot, learned how to invest and also made a lot of precursors in the MF when it was profitable. Also crafting and selling old legendaries brought me a lot of gold(who buys these?). Now I’m waiting for number 7 to come out and join my collection.

What I want to say is that this game could become so much better if you have healthy goals. If you aim for ascended gear, think about how you want to use it.Fractals? WvW? Or even raids?

Please don’t be the sort of player who(as an example) logs in, kills the warg in WvW, flips a camp, runs away from enemies and log out. Don’t be that guy. If this sounds like you, don’t play gw2, don’t game at all. You should spend your free time for better things

I suppose it was just a matter of time before someone came into the thread to tell others how they, “should,” play the game.

Some days, rarely, core dailies are replaced by HoT variations. If your only interest in GW2 is playing core dailies then buying HoT was probably not a great decision. Removing it to restore the only aspect of the game that you wish to play is reasonable. Phrasing the thread topic and OP more accurately would likely have resulted in less backlash.

Elite specs vs core specs

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ashen.2907

Ashen.2907

Let’s face it. Elite specs are not going to be nerfed too much, because that reduces their appeal, which could (will) diminish sales..

I see this idea everywhere, and it’s wrong.

There is no data or evendience that links power with sales. Class balance and power is the concern of existing customers not potential customers.

Nobody says “Hey that expac has a cool trailer, I wonder what the balance is like.” Flashy trailers and content are what sell copies. If GW2’s F2P is engaging enough players will buy into the expac regardless of elites, simply to access the content. If they aren’t interested in the content then they probably won’t buy regardless of what elites are like.

In order for that idea to be wrong you should be able to disprove it. Otherwise it would be more accurate to say that the idea is unproven, not that it is wrong.

I, as an example, bought the expansion in spite of the off-putting trailers and content, not because of them.

Ashen.2907

Make it an infractable offense to use blatantly clickbait and non-descriptive thread titles on these forums. People’s time is too valuable to waste on dozens of “What if Anet…” and “My awesome suggestion is…” threads.

Umm, if people’s time is too valuable to waste on such threads couldn’t they just not read them?

Part of the problem is they get mixed up with topics you do want to read.

I’ve spent a lot of time clicking on topics in Players Helping Players with topics like “help a newbie” or “what do I do?” only to realise it’s someone asking about traits for a necromancer or how to find a raid group or something like that which I know nothing about. But 1/2 a day later I can’t remember which of those topics is the one I clicked and then left immediately and which is the one I can answer but didn’t have time for earlier and which is a new question. So I end up clicking on them again.

Ahh, I see. I guess that it would be a problem under those circumstances.

Still, in general, I think that skipping threads whose titles do not indicate relevance to one’s own interests might be a better idea than other suggestions. I just find it funny when people complain about reading something, with the reason given being such that they could very easily have avoided, “wasting time,” on the thread in the first place.

For me it’s a physical reaction. My body can’t take it with my condition. The last time I had to PvP for my guild (there were only a handful of us on, and we needed this one PvP mission to level up the guild and they begged me to join them) I came away with fast breathing and shaking hands. I thought I was having another crisis.

Years ago I played other games where you shoot each other down in airplanes with no problems. Now, my body rejects it all.

Don’t get old kids!

Glad I’m not the only one >_< When I’m fighting against another player my anxiety causes me to shake and lose focus, and ingame it looks like I’ve no idea what I’m doing. Sometimes it gets so bad I have to turn off the game and do something else. Having to wvw for my gift of battle is pure torture right now…

Just do the non competitive WvW dailies. Takes a bit longer but you will get there without as much anxiety.

What the kitten is wrong with you people? Don’t you even want a long, epic battle? Why do you even play this game? You consider it a win if you kill a commander and the enemy zerg retreats? One bag! That’s what you get for killing a commander. Anyone in my guild gets yelled at for sniping because when you driver snipe, the enemy zerg just scatters and nobody gets any bags. How is that a win? That’s boring. And you backline, full zerk puggers with your selfish builds wonder why you get kicked from squad and the commander runs tagless to hide from you. It boggles the mind. If you haven’t yet learned the joy of winning a hard-fought battle without resorting to dirty tricks then you never will. I feel sorry for you that even in a video game with unlimited lives, you still consider a death to equal a loss.

Ahh, its about the loot to you. Someone engaging in PvP on a PvP map is somehow reducing your loot gain rate.

“Dirty tricks,” such as attacking enemy players are a requirement for PvP. If you do not desire PvP you might want to consider open world PvE.

> Plays an MMO this game should not have multiplayer content

The progression of MY CHARACTER (stats) should not depend on other people. In core Tyria I can do Hero Points all by myself, etc.

You need only 25 HP from HoT maps to complete your spec, down to as few as 7-8 if you map complete core tyria. So its not as if you can’t finish your elite spec solo, its entirely possible.

Who said anything about only getting HP to complete my spec? And what about new players who prefer to get their spec entirely in HoT? Every HP should be soloable. I’m not against group events, just against group events for HP.

Why should every HP be solo-able? Because you say so?.

How about because there are fewer and fewer people in the HoT maps and there will be even less when they come out with the new Story episode and eventually the new Expansion?

I am a firm believer in a mix of group and solo content, including HPs…but thats a solid point. Group content on old maps could be a problem. This is a balancing act that needs to be taken into consideration for future content releases.

Perhaps group HP should be reworked as part of ew expansion/content releases?

Stealth and CC mechanics

in WvW

Posted by: Ashen.2907

Ashen.2907

I will remind the people who play thief and mesmer, that Stealth is NOT a profession mechanic. It is a game effect/mechanic.

Stealth is incredibly broken, and needs to be finally brought into line. Whether you like it or think it is useful is irrelevant, it is broken and unbalanced plain and simply.

Bahahaha Shadow Arts and All the Thief Weapons having Stealth attacks beg to differ…..

I mean it’s not like Thief has different mehanics while Stealthed or has their class Directly influenced while Stealthed Like Thief, but yes on the other 8 classes It is not a class mechanic per say.

He’s right. Technically the thief mechanics are

  • Initiative system
  • Stealing
  • Dual Skills
  • Stealth attacks

Class mechanics are unique to each class, and since Stealth is not unique to thieves, its not one of their mechanics. Yes, 1 of their mechanics does require stealth, but stealth is not their mechanic.

Yes Stealth isn’t exclusive to Thief but one of the Criteria for a Class mechanic is a Specialization directly tied to it which Shadow Arts fills that requirement. Again no other class has a Specialization almost soley tied to Stealth (only two traits don’t affect Stealth in the whole trait line), and then there is the fact that Stealth Attacks again indirectly make stealth as a Mechanic because without Stealth there is no Stealth Attack.

According to the quote you posted one of the criteria for something to be considered a class mechanic is for it to be exclusive to the class. Stealth is not exclusive to any class.

Again, that is according to what you posted.
