Why A New Race Is Highly Possible [Merged]

What I find funny is that some people think that a AAA game such as this that focuses and exploration and diversity wouldn’t add a new race. Yes guys I’m sorry but eventually they will. This game has finally found its format for creating and delivering content. The only thing they are missing is a deep focus on lore and storytelling. The addition of a new race allows developers to focus on lore expansion and story development. I’m sure that most developers in Anet have realized that what the game lacks now is lore and depth. Not only that but we will be going to new continents with different races, and you think they won’t include them into the game??? This isn’t like gw1 that you only played one race. This game needs this. It will happen. No matter what you guys think. Eventually it will come.

Since you are a developer for Anet, with the red logo right over there <———-

we can just go ahead and use this as a source then, right? New continents too, meaning

NOT Cantha and Elona? You heard it here first folks, breaking news!!!!

Ikr!

Telling us soooo confidently that Yes, this will happen. The game needs this. Eventually it will come.

In reality he’s just one more anonymous poster on the forum and he doesn’t have any more insight into whether or not anything will happen than any other person who comes on the forum and gives their opinion.

Foolish remark. New continent to the current map. So yea Cantha and so on. It’s an analytical statement. To me it makes the most sense. If you can’t wrap your head around it, then that sounds like a personal problem.

It only makes sense to your biases. Also, it’s pretty sad when you accuse people of having problems simply because they don’t agree with you. It’s time to come down off your judgmental high white horse.

What is sad? It’s what makes sense to me? Your assumptions are funny. Judgmental high white horse??? Are you sure you’re using the term appropriately? You seem to not get it at all. I dont care about “judging” anyone. What is said is an analytical statement and what makes the most sense??? When did you interpret that as a reality? sigh it seems the judgmental one is you.

Really… what I’ve seen is you making a post and telling people how things are gonna be whether they like it or not, nothing we can do to change it or stop it. So you are being put on notice that this isn’t your game, and you don’t get to make these decisions. Feel free to discuss though!

Its a high probability. When i make those posts its towards people who are adamant on a definite “NO”. Which is wrong. I am speaking in terms of probability. Hell they were even considering it in their first Xpac, which was rather small and heavily rushed. Therefore, you honestly believe that it WONT happen at all for a future PLANNED Xpac? Yea right! I’m am not saying YES, im saying its highly possible.

Probability is expressed mathematically.

Where are your numbers?

Less analytical than wildly speculative really. Not really any more facts supporting the addition of new races than there are for the addition of space craft to go after the mother of all elder dragons who lives on another planet.

Can I send him home and replace him with someone whose behavior is not going to detract from the important business of saving Tyria? No, I can’t. If he is going to act like a five year old throwing a tantrum, I should be able to give him a time out.

Well no. You can’t because he’s not listening to you. Even if that was a choice of dialogue, his actions would be the same. lol

Then can we replace him already? And when he messes up, can we call him a disgrace to his mother’s legacy and refuse him entry into the guild? Both guilds, DE and DW? (Let’s face it, in Arah it’s pretty clear that they consider you a part of Destiny’s Edge. And I’m sure both Rytlock and Caithe would back us up on this.)

We know what’s going to happen. He’s going to come walking back over a pile of corpses, and ask to rejoin us. And, because we won’t be allowed a choice, we’ll accept him back and forgive him. We all see it coming, and I for one hate it.

I dont hate the idea of forgiving him because, IMO, there is nothing to forgive. I do, however, regret not being allowed to ignore him as I would any other squalling baby with a soiled diaper. He should have no more part in what I am doing than any other NPC uttering their lines about the price of produce or something of the sort in the background in a racial city.

Improvements, Fixes, and Ideas for GW 2

Ashen.2907

The problem is, the things that they fix can break again after they fix it. They fixed the moa event, but now it still stalls sometimes again. They fixed the Ogre Wars event more than one time, but eventually it breaks again.

There are fixed that get broken by changes and there are new bugs introduced by different changes. If you’d worded your complaint without seeming to imply (and this is backed up by what you said elsewhere) that people who work in the MMO industry are simply lazy, sure, everyone agrees, bugs should be fixed. The problem is, every time you fix one bug two more appear. Nothing is as simple as you make it sound.

I’ve watched the devs at Anet for a long time, and I don’t believe they’re lazy or not trying and I think anyone who suggests thats’ the case is themselves lazy, looking for a way to express their displeasure at something without trying to understand why it is the way it is.

I worked in the computer industry for a long long time and I’ve been on the receiving enough of people who insisted they knew my job better than I did. How repairs could have a faster turnaround time or how things could be more efficient. Yet each time such changes were implemented, they never really made a difference to the bottom line. Repair times generally remained the same, customer satisfaction generally remained the same, because the people suggesting the measures being suggested only see the problems, but don’t really understand the industry…and then they blame the industry.

There is no magic bullet to fix what’s wrong with the way MMOs are generally delivered because if there was, someone would have figured it out by now. All MMOs have bugs and all MMOs suffer the same types of complaints on their forums, because they all are starting from the same place…limited time, limited budget, too much competition and not enough time to do everything they’d really like to do.

Hope you have a happy holiday.

Okay, Vayne, just stop talking now lol. You still don’t seem to understand what I was saying. I get that you worked in the computer industry and have a grudge and angst against complaints from customers. But that still doesn’t change the fact that there are more and better ways for things to be done than they are now. Just because you can’t see that, doesn’t mean everyone else is wrong and you are right.

This is an exact quote from you:

“- All Story Missions in the GW 2 base game need to be checked for bugs. I’m occasionally finding NPC’s stuck after spending 5-10 min on a mission and have to restart.”

All story missions means all story missions. That’s what you said. So I’m pretty sure I understand what you’re saying.

I can also paste the parts where you use words like lazy if you want, but what’s the point. You’re denying something you actually said.

I’ve brought up my own complaints about the game from time to time, when I feel they they’re reasonable. I don’t think the things you’ve said are reasonable, not all of them certainly.

You can say I don’t understand, but then you’d have to show me how you mean All story missions NEED to be checked for bugs.

How can that sentence mean anything other than that I am saying it means?

He already, essentially, retracted that statement.

HoT maps have many more chains due to the lack of hearts

There also gated off as it still irks me that Verdent Brink doesn’t have a single leylines or even updrafts that can reliably and routinely take you to the canopy level without event chains.

HoT gets easier with mastery but mastery is built around altoholics grinding for a single toon is mindnumbliy boring. It should’ve been locked per toon with a reduce exp grind to compensate. HoT is need of a qol patch that it obviously won’t be getting I know people who quit, took a break like myself, or took their one toon through HoT story and never came back.

Are you sure? Perhaps more careful exploration of the area will reveal some things you failed to notice up until this point? Here are a few hints:

From Shrouded Ruins waypoint, head west up the stairs to the top of the plateau. There’s a bounce mushroom seemingly leading to a dead end. Or perhaps it isn’t a dead end after all?

There’s also a wrecked airship next to Mellagan’s Valor waypoint. Have you seen the view from the top of it? No? You might want to use that updraft tucked into the rocks at the top of the trailhead to get over to it and do some more thorough exploration.

Finally, if you were to go to the top of Faren’s Flyer waypoint, you might notice a large vine stretching northward. Why not see where it leads?

Trust me. You can reach every point on that map without using the choppers.

All subjective elements of like or dislike for the map design aside, this is correct.

I like the idea of specific rewards tied to specific content, but only if enough can be produced to prevent a feeling of reward drought for the various types of content.

Thats the rub though. Rewards produced for general access apply, at least in theory, to all players. Rewards for specific cont apply only to a portion of the player base. So, to have content exclusive rewards while trying to reward all players, more rewards must be produced. Expensive.

Raids

Not that I support his idea that would just be EotM without walls.

The 3 games types are sPvP, WvW and PvE.

Unless they’ve really changed things up, raids, open world, fractals/dungeons, LS are all part of PvE.

WvW is a largely PvE game mode in which PvP may occur.

In GW guilds have served a few main purposes:

Social collective. A place for like minded individuals to meet, chat, hang out, etc.

A place where one can find advice and in game assistance from known individuals.

A place to recruit/organize for group PVE content without all of the hassles of true PUGing.

A place to form/organize PvP groups.

You can do all of that with GW2’s guild system.

I do feel that, if the npcs are going to be written to engage in conflict or confrontation with us, we need to be allowed to option to respond differently than is currently the case. I have no problem with the idea of my character being a member of a group that has internal conflict but which sticks together because no one else can get the job done. But if the writers are going to insist on that approach to the group dynamic then let me take part.

You specified that, “they blocked me before I even joined their squad.” You then attributed that as being due to racism on their part. That is in fact an accusation against a specific subset of the player base…unless it is your assertion that everyone has blocked you in that manner. In that case it would be making unspported accusations against the entire community. Certainly not behavior that will get you into groups.

If you are being kicked, instantly, without any interaction, then how would they know your race?

Personally I have no idea what your skin color might be, what ethnicity you are, or even what gender. But I would consider blocking you for your behavior in this thread.

They have something called ts. 9/10 times u can tell a person’s race or skin from their tone, inflection, or accent. I agree it’s not always accurate but it definitely cannot be discounted either

U can also judge a person by their attitude and behavior or their language even in-game and come to a biased (not necessarily correct) conclusion based on these facts. It’s not unheard of either, I will laugh if anyone says otherwise – most often those ppl have never experienced it for themselves.

I don’t understand how my behavior here is so wrong. Why do u say that? Most of u have never played with me b4 thus can’t honestly judge my skill or how I conduct myself in groups. I could come here and rant but be a perfectly polite and understanding person in game who rarely ever kicks/blocks nyone even though he can. If you would argue otherwise, then u are discriminating against me based on unrelated observations, which is as good as believing a rumor abt a person as soon as u hear it.

If anyone else, say someone from Dnt guild or someone recognized like Nike made the same appeal I did, do u still think they would get 10 consecutive responses where ppl said they would block them just bc of their behavior on the same thread? I don’t honestly believe that, and neither would u.

If anyone came in here making unsupported accusations while insisting that the accused had to prove their innocence my reaction would be the same. I dont care who they are if they engage in such behavior.

You are correct that it is possible to judge another by their, "attitude and behavior, " which is as it should be (in my opinion). That is not prejudicial nor racist. Deciding whether or not to spend free time with someone based on how they behave or their expressed attitude(s) is perfectly reasonable.

They blocked me even before I joined their squad. If they give no explanation then I am sorry but I have to classify it as discrimination. I can call it racism if I want, you can’t say otherwise cos no one has any proof to the contrary. In fact my explanation is the one that makes the most sense, especially when I don’t even recognize that I’ve ever raided with the person who insta kicked me.

I believe I have a right to know why I was insta kicked, and why the person had alrdy blocked me prior to this. I know this bc a split second later I couldn’t even whisp that person.

Imagine this scenario: I get kicked on join, no explanation given. I rejoin, only to get insta kicked again. So I rejoin again, and get a split moment where I ask them to explain y they kicked me. They refuse to say anything, so I have no choice but to write it off as discrimination or worse discrimination based on my race or color. Explain to me in what world that is even considered stalking on my part, please.

Again ppl think racism doesn’t translate to other mediums like over internet. Well how about phone conversation – do u think ppl would treat me differently if they heard my voice on phone or over ts? Answer honestly pls

If you are making the assertion, racism in this case, then the burden of proof is on you.

Personally I have no idea what your skin color might be, what ethnicity you are, or even what gender. But I would consider blocking you for your behavior in this thread. I’m wondering why the OP feels he can’t play HOT zones the way he plays normal tyria zones, because that’s how I play them. Well all of them except Dragon Stand.

I have found it to be physically impossible to play HOT zones, in their entirety, the same way as I played core Tyria zones pre expansion.

Not really sure I understand that. How is it physically impossible.

This is how I play maps in core. I go onto a map, I run around, I harvest, I do events as I come upon them, or skip the ones I don’t like.

In Gendarran Fields, they upped the difficulty of one of the main events, and I often skip it because I’m not interested, but there are plenty of other events around.

So how is it impossible to play the zone the same way?

Keep in mind that I said how I play, not how you play.

I played core zones without gliding, mushroom jumping, having to hunt for mastery points in order to progress through a map, multi-tiered maps that rendered the minimap nearly useless, and so on.

What do you mean by “normal Tyrian zones”? If you mean large, flat, pretty maps that aren’t a large meta event… we’ve got Ember Bay and Bitterfrost Frontier in LS3.

If it’s the inadequate supply of spirit shards you’re complaining about, you can already earn 3 per day by doing dailies, with or without HoT. Unless you had the time to grind 3 levels per day beforehand, for most people, that’s more shards than they used to be able to earn.
Or if not getting any rewards for leveling past 80 bothers you… that’s done too. That ability is the reward for completing the masteries (either core Tyrian or HoT).

And technically, we never had the ability to earn shards by leveling… it’s skill points you are thinking of, and those were changed to the shards 6-12 months before HoT released. Probably to prevent players from instantly getting full elite specs without setting foot in HoT.

Yes, I suppose…

1. Add two new large, open world zones with new content/stories/events/etc similar to Gendarran Fields or Sparkfly Fen (with or without the dragon), because that is the type of content I actually enjoy and that’s the kind of content that made me buy the game in the first place.

and

2. Provide something useful for leveling past 80 again, without me having to re-earn it, because that existed when I purchased the game and was, again, part of the reason why I bought the game in the first place.

By all means, if they want to add fishing and instanced housing similar to Everquest II, I won’t complain.

What useful (for your play stytle) thing did you get for leveling past 80 before?

The problem is there are some gliders which are only available though the chests, so if you want them you don’t have a choice -.

You always have a choice. If people didn’t support gamble boxes they would not exist. As long as they are the more profitable approach to releasing new skins they will be used as such. Every time a player buys a key to gamble for a new glider, or whatever, they are sending Anet a message saying, in essence, “I approve of this, please keep it up.” Complaining about it on the forums while telling Anet that you support it, with your money, is a waste of time.

I don’t understand why they’re doing it either.

The answer to, “why do they do X,” is almost always, “money!” If gamble boxes didn’t work they would not exist.

Characters, NPCs, behaving in a manner that evokes an emotional reaction from player and player character, in character, is not bad storytelling. Characters behaving in a manner that is disliked, or even unlikable, is not bad storytelling. Hated and hateable characters can be much better components of a good story than those with whom we always agree, get along with, or even love.

What is bad storytelling is characters, even the PC, not being able to, allowed to, respond appropriately to the behavior.

That’s like saying No man’s sky is a good game, because a lot of people got emotional and dislike/hate it. You are trying too hard, I think.

Nothing at all like your analogy. Note that I referenced in character reaction to in character elements. All I am saying is that an unlikable character is not necessarily bad storytelling. A character that we are meant to dislike can be part of good storytelling. I dont think that is what is happening here. As Ive said before, including in the post you quoted (did you read it in its entirety?), I think that this situation is an example of poor writing.

The gem exchange can increase the supply of gold (which isn’t the only factor in inflation). Players generate gold and anything that prompts players to generate gold will increase the supply and demand for gold. New gold generated specifically to buy gems is gold that would not have existed without the gem exchange and 1g taxed at 33% still leaves you with some silver.

Except it doesn’t. The exchange doesn’t create gold, or gems, out of nothing. The gold players get from selling gems comes from a “vault” of gold stocked by players buying gems with gold and the gems they are buying are from a “vault” of gems stocked by players selling gems. When the game launched the “vaults” were seeded but since then it’s all us pouring in and pulling out gold and gems.

He didnt say that the exchange creates gold. He said that some players do purposefully generate gold specifically to convert to gems. This is true. Some players do actively farm for the sole purpose of converting to gems when there is something in the gem store that they want.

The writing for the Scarlet arc is disliked by many, as noted on these forums and in game, even after it was finished. Truly awful stuff IMO.

I dont need to know Braham’s hidden motivation. Dont need the bad guys to always wear black hats and the good guys to always wear white. Mystery and story that develop through revelation over time are just fine. If we look closely at negative posts about the Braham situation we see that most are not reacting just to the perception of how Braham is behaving but largely, instead, to how we are required to react to that behavior. If there is some hidden, nefarious, to be revealed in a future chapter, reason for Braham to be acting as he is (oh no he has been replaced by one of the pod people!) then so be it. Fine. No problem. But the storytelling will still have been poor for requiring the other characters to just accept it, essentially ignore it, because….hmmm….just because.

I don’t think the intention was to have tons of them. It’d just make balancing even more difficult for a team which already has major issues in this department.

Based on HoT, I’d say some devs are already low on creative juices, anyways.

HoT was an expansion that focused primarily on introducing new tools, engine revamps, and features over content. Its no surprise that it was content light, that doesn’t mean that the devs are struggling for creativity though.

The constant creation and destruction of so called systems is something this game is known for actually. I’d say yes it does mean there is a lack of creativity they strip something down and try to revamp it then strip and revamp over and over with very little content shown given the amount of work put into it.

To push what you have to bring about unique experiences is a sign of creativity to scrap the entire thing and start a new each and every turn is a sign they didn’t have the creative insight to push anything with what they have to they try to create again and again. Dungeons and underwater lost and forgotten, characters killed off, and so forth. Season 1 in terms of achievements and presentation is as different to season 2 as season 2 is to season 3 while HoT is different from all the seasons and the core.

Work with what you have and use creativity to do something inspired which is something people don’t typically associate with Anet who much prefers to wipe the board clean and try something else which leads to alot of work and very little content.

So, to clarify, you are saying that constantly working to create new things is a sign of a lack of creativity while working to not create new, but instead tweaking that which already exists is a sign of creativity?

Hardest for me is self motivating to participate when my server is essentially anonymous and paired with a host server that I actively dislike.

Haloween vs wintersday which is more fun?

I prefer Halloween now because playing with my friends is supported. Since that option was removed from Wintersday I dont participate as much.

When a child throws a screaming tantrum and hurls nasty accusations, a wise parent does not descend to the child’s level and start screaming back. Nor does the wise parent try to give instruction or force a rational conversation at such a time, since the child is not ready to BE rational or accept instruction. The wise parent lets the child stomp off to their room and cool down a bit before trying to address the problem.

For the most part I agree with you, but I would not mind the power to actually treat Braham like a petulant child if he is going to act as such. To follow your analogy, perhaps we should be able to take away some of his privileges, send him to his room for a time out, or something of the sort. “No ale for you for a month Braham!”

Sorry, but evoking the response, “Why is he acting like this, and why am I letting him act like this, this is frustrating and annoying,” is not the same thing as evoking an emotional reaction and being disliked.

Actually, if there is something going on behind Braham’s behavior, to be further discovered in some future chapter, such a reaction could be decent storytelling. If the answer to your why questions is some arbitrary impulse by the writer, then no it isn’t good story.

Personally, based on my perceptions of the storytelling so far, I doubt that there is much depth to Braham’s behavior. I very much expect that he is being a …. because.

I think it is very appropriate to offer achievements for difficult content, challenging content, and some that are expensive. Different rewards for different players/play styles. It is key, however, that they be different so that one can distinguish between them in terms of how they were earned.
