How do you procrastinate on the value of prices?

Do you even read the posts here?

Of course I read the post. That is why I asked the question. No definition of procrastinate works in that sentence. Did you mean prognosticate, or some other word perhaps ? What did you actually mean ?

Veteran players get something that new players do not:

Two choices of how to play HoT. A veteran can choose to get exactly the samething a new player does. A new account with all the character slots, etc. A veteran also has the choice to link HoT to an existing account in order to access the new content and game options on existing characters.

There is nothing that a new player buying HoT gets that a veteran cannot as well.

People on these forums are complaining about the value of the GW2 expansion. I believe that everyone is titled to there opinion, fair enough. BUT if you have ever went to go see a movie when it first came out YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE!!! You say GW2 expansion cost too much but you will spend $10-$20 to see a 2 hour movie.

Hmmm… when a movie first comes out. When a movie comes out there have been ratings and reviews and we can easily find out (if we want to) what we are going to get. Right now, they are asking $50 while we don’t know half of what’s in the expansion. Also, when I pay $20 to see a movie I pay the same for the sequel but I can know for sure that the sequel is just as long as the first movie, which I can’t know for sure with the gw2 expansion.

Now let me get this straight. I don’t think that $50 is a bad price. It’s a decent price and I get that an MMO is expensive. However, I hardly know what is in the expansion. So the thing I want to see is, not a price change, but more information about the expansion. What are we going to get, what does the new map look like, how does it play, how many dungeons will there be, how many world bosses will there be, etc. There’s just not enough information available to justify the price.

If what we’ve seen is all we’re going to get then I say, yes, this is overprised. It’s more than I have payed for the base game but it contains less. I don’t know about you but this seems like a bad deal. If there is so much more we haven’t heard about then I say, keep this price.

TL;DR We need more info on what’s going to be in the expansion.

There does need to be more information on the expansion. But no one is making you pre-order yet so you free free to wait.

Avengers movie trailers are more valuable, and much cooler, than HoT trailers.

I dont really have a problem with MCU movies deviating from the comic book so long as they are reasonably consistent themselves and are a fun time to watch.

So, although people bought gw2 for cheap to get into the game, they could’ve waited this whole time to just buy the expansion and get the core game for free….

Just wow….

As for people who bought the game from the beginning, we basically are buying the whole game all over again.

I don’t think words can express how much of a rip off this is…

Yeah 50$ for a game you played for 2-3 years and another 50$ to get the expansion and the core game as a BONUS.
You don’t even know what a rip off is, young one.

You obviously didn’t support the cash shop. For people that did, this doesn’t seem like such a great value. Anet should discount HoT for cash shop supporters.

You got what you paid for every single time you spent money in the cash shop.

That said, I’ve always thought that frequent buyer rewards are a good idea.

GW2 Doesnt have the Avengers in it.

Its not hypocrisy to think one thing is worth $15, and that a completely different thing is not worth $50.

And the Avengers have not Hank Pym in it .. so the last movie especially wasn’t
even worth $1 for what they did to the whole story about wher Ultron was
coming from.

You have made an excellent point.

I am very much looking forward to Antman. I think I will buy extra tickets with the money I dont spend on HoT.

To be fair, I don’t think the trip to the movie theaters is worth it either.

At home I can eat what I want while I watch and I don’t even have to wear pants.

How much do u spend on the movies? Because unless you paying something low the value is much lower compared toGW2.

Value is completely subjective.

If value is subjective why do people feel they’re entitled to a price drop?

Some People feeling that proves that value is subjective. Some people think that HoT is worth $50. Others dont. That is what subjective means.

I for example place more value on the various Avenger related movies than on GW2. I am not currently intending to buy HoT. This has nothing to do with the $50 price. I would not buy at $5 either.

All subjective.

How many minutes of screen time will Robert Downey Junior have in HoT, or any other MMO? Much less than in any of the Ironman movies. I guess that means that even a single Avengers/Ironman movie has infinitely greater value than all MMOs combined right?

This is a PRE PURCHASE,you are basically paying to get free beta keys. You are playing before other people do.

Of course when the expansion is released they will release a upgrade option for way less than 50$ lol.

Pre purchases are always a bit expensive than the game itself after being released.

Anet has said otherwise.

Anet might say differently if sales don’t go as well as anticipated.

Of course. A business always has the option to alter pricing models based on sales trends.

You can never get a full impression of a game until it’s been released and people have actually been able to play through the content and review it with a full perspective.

And even then not necessarily. The only way to determine if you will like it is to play it. Just as even my favorite movie reviewers or friends with similar tastes can steer me wrong about movies, so too can game reviews or post launch popular opinion.

As much as $50 does not seem inappropriate for an MMO expansion I do believe that it should come with a character slot (perhaps even one exclusive to the new class) as a new profession is a significant selling point of the expansion. Charging $50 for the expansion and then charging more to actually use a feature of the expansion seems a bit off to me.

Interesting.

I was surprised when Anet announced that there would be no need to grind for new tiers of gear with the expansion. It seemed to go against the trend of making GW2 more like traditional MMOs of the past.

I was impressed. It really seemed awesome that they would declare definitively that they were shying away from continuing that form of vertical progression.

I should have known better.

Some really good lawyer/politician speak in that announcement. Nope, no grinding for a new tier of gear. Instead we are expected to regrind for the same tier in order to maintain current builds while the performance gap between the top tier and everything else is being increased in order to encourage grinding it out.

…and then we’re back to spending gold (which equals either time, or real life money) again.

In GW2 you can choose to spend either time or real life money to get what you want. In WoW you must spend both.

Doing a few pet battles and soloing old content to get armour and weaps, for transmog, takes very little time.

Ultimately, you want to spend a certain amount of time playing, anyway – that is the point of playing games.

It’s not just supposed to be a means to an end.

ATM, I am basically paying real money, to avoid having to play certain badly designed areas of the game.

That’s insane, when you think about it.

I am not sure which badly designed areas of the game you are refering to. I earn my gold doing whatever I feel like at any given time. Mostly running around solo in the open world. I have yet to find an in game activity that doesnt generate resources. I do agree that you should avoid content that you dislike.

What I found in my time playing WoW was that they required me to pay every month just to access the game and then wanted me to buy things from the cash shop. If I didnt pay the monthly fee I would be locked out of anything I had bought and paid for in the cash shop.

To those stating that they prefer a sub based game overvone with a cash shop:

The reality is that, in general, the choice is between a no subscription game with a cash shop and a game with a cash shop and a sub.

None of the stuff in the WoW cash shop feels necessary.

There is (or was) virtually no armour (apart from a couple of helms, more recently) in the store and there is plenty of armour in-game.

I’ve only ever bought a couple of non-combat pets, because there are tons easily available in-game.

Same with mounts.

They recently introduced instant 90s, which was slightly controversial, but for anyone who has played for more than 5 mins, they already have a stable full of high level chars, anyway.

No, but if the store had a price tag on bread that sold the bread for 1 cent and you bought 100 loaves, went to check out, paid, got a receipt, and then was told to have a nice day and went home. Do you think you deserve to have the cop show up a few days later and put you in jail for life?

You just thought that was a good f’n deal on bread. Because the store LET you buy it, and the STORE set the price, not you.

I am rather sure that there is a law against that.
If something is a clear mistake, you taking advantage of it will end up with you getting in trouble. Even if the mistake was made by the store/bank/company/whatever. No one in their right mind would buy 100 loaves of bread naturally after all.

Actually people, in their right minds, do buy large numbers of loaves of bread. Quite frequently in fact.

You are mistaken about the law.

Also, unless the merchant posts a policy restricting the number of items purchaseable (limit 2 per customer, etc) the customer can buy as many as he can pay for.

If an item is listed at a given price the merchant, with some local variations, must honor the price. Some regions’ laws are more punishing of the merchant for failing to honor their pricing than others of course. In CA, for example if a customer took 100 loaves of bread to the checkout counter for purchase because they saw them priced at $.01 each, and the shopkeeper refused to sell them at that price, the store would face a fine of $1000 per item. $100,000 total in that case. If it could be shown that the inaccurate price listing was intentional the penalties would likely be more severe.

All of that said, exploiting game bugs should be punished. Its usually pretty obvious when something is an unintended bug.

ANet won’t change their policy unless someone can find a method that hurts RMT selling/buying as much as the current gold-transfer cap. You don’t have to agree with ANet. However, if you want them to implement a new mechanic, you will need to accept that they believe 500g/week has slowed down RMT and has only a minor impact on the community.

Thus, it’s completely moot if dungeon-path selling and guild lotteries are supported or not. ANet has decided that hurting RMT is more important.

This.

People who bought this game perhaps in part because there were no mounts should not be affected in the manner you describe.

That argument holds absolutely no water when it comes to GW2. We have enough design reversals in the last three years that the idea of staying true to some idea of why people chose to buy the game is meaningless.

Not really. If someone other than Anet is making the suggestion then yes their request should be considered against the interests of those who bought the game for (in part) its lack of mounts. If Anet, the owner of the game, decides to change something we have to suck it up or vote with our wallets.

If someone wanting mounts can make a convincing case that adding them would produce greater profit than would be lost due to alienating other customers then I would expect mounts to be added.

Then, perhaps Dungeon Sellers could ask for an item(s) equal to the amount of Gold they would charge. Just as in GW1 where certain items became currency. No limit there. =)

Solid point.

The restrictions exist for a reason. There is a work around for those (relatively few) legitimate players who are negatively impacted. If the TP tax is a problem, pass the cost onto your customers. Businesses have been doing so for as long as there have been taxes. No reason why dungeon sellers and their customers in a computer game should be an exception

So far, I think you are the only person I’ve seen that has voiced dislike about the skin… but we all know that beauty is subjective.

Just voicing my opinion on it: the back piece does look pretty crappy, to me. It’s not horrible but it’s hardly uuntarnished by criticism. But frankly, it’s mostly the nature of back pieces in this game. Hardly any are meant to complement a variety of looks but instead meant to show status. The vine back pieces are fine. . . If your Armor look is meant to incorporate plant motifs which can go well with a sylvari who is using plant Armor but hardly much else (not to mention there aren’t that many plant themed armors to easily go with it). There are far more better looking back pieces that aren’t generic themed (like the dream catcher) that aren’t used as often as the bulkier flashier ones meant to show off wealth or status (wing/ fractal back piece). For alk the work I put in to finally get my mawdrey, I’d still transmute a skin over it (but the ascended stats are welcome).

I’d much prefer a more practical back piece skin similar to the quivers, like a Cape or a spare weapon there for show like a crossbow kit or chain sickle that you can add to various looks to differing effect.

Actually, I find that mine looks quite nice on my elementalist who is a human noble and looks it. She doesn’t even incorporate any of the colors, but it works.

Whatever flats your boat. Personally, to me, a noble doesn’t really walk around nature as much as around aristocracy, much less wear nature on their back. My noble-type sylvari uses an elegant bird motif, with gold, jewels and feathers. I’m sure you could make a nice flower motif that works the same angle but finding weapons and Armor that complement the back piece is harder than simply making your back piece invisible.

Depending on time period and the like, a noble might very well be the most likely to spend time wandering around in nature. After all a noble could afford to not spend all of his time trying to scrape a living out of menial work from before dawn until after dusk.

Hm. Does diagonal 3d movement require that much work? I really thought it wouldn’t have that much of an effect on the map besides falling slowly..

Places in existing zones that players cannot currently reach would likely have been left incomplete from those angles out of player view. There would have been no reason to give them areal finish. With gliding players could see and reach incomplete sections of the map. Going back to finish existing maps for that 3d movement would likely be resource intensive.
