Is the update going to reset the monthly?

Astral Projections.7320

The old monthly was discontinued and the AP points from the daily and monthly will be combined into one pool with a 15k AP cap.

If you mean the new 28 day reward system, it only resets when you hit 28 days of doing them, not necessarily consecutive.

And yet the chance of a new race is still higher than the chance of you providing any real evidence to back up your fabricated statistics.

Lol.. reason much? Guess not. Not everything needs hard facts to back it up.

Anet has stated they will not be going back and working on Personal Story. Creating a new race would require new Personal Story, and that means they either go back and work on it, which they said they wouldn’t do, or they create an entirely new Personal Story exclusively for this one race, which doesn’t sound like anything Anet has ever done with GW2. To claim 0% chance might be extreme, but anything more than 2% is unrealistic.

The old personal story was, defeat Zhaitan. If the new race’s personal story isn’t about that then they don’t need to rework the old one. The new races’s story could be tied into a new personal story arc if they release a new continent or possibly told though the Living Story.

Guild Wars 1. Every time they brought in new professions they brought in a new set of story lines. Could be the same here.

I would rather buy a new character slot than delete a level 80. Your old character can be parked at a jumping puzzle for a daily chest and be used as for extra storage of items you don’t want to delete and don’t want cluttering up your bank. When you need to take it to a bank, you can go to WvW or PvP then return you the spot you were.

When I got a new necro, that’s what I did and my old necro is still useful. One mule with 80 slots is the same price as a 30 slot bank tab.

Some people are very bothered by having too many or multiples of the same characters.

(Reads statement) Yeah. Ok. Everyone has their little foibles. If it bugs them so much they would rather lose those inventory slots or pay to get less, then they gotta do what they gotta do.

I never understood why they consolidated the forums in the first place. Sites for dedicated, constructive discussions on a narrow set of topics. Swept into the general forums and now, gone with the winds,

Want to discuss some subject that has value but people only post a couple of times a day. Forget it. The threads are dropping off the front page between a day and a couple of hours, to be quickly forgotten.

Considering that the Devs don’t have a better search method than we do then I don’t see how this is a benefit to them. Before they had forums for their areas of interest. Now they have to wade through pages of threads irrelevant to their specialty.

I have yet to see that this new forum is better than the old. From what I’ve seen it’s worse, much worse.

I can’t see how this is something we can fix. Save links to topics you want to refer to on your computer is my suggestion. I save selected posts from Devs with a link for commonly asked questions. Saves time searching that way.

Daily Win as (Class) achieves are dumb, especially since there are 2 every day.

I’d prefer a daily win as any class and something else. Maybe Teammate reviver or something.

Teammate reviver. That might have problems. Someone dies, everyone nearby races over to get revive. Or people getting mad because they are trying to get their daily revive and get killed while rezzing. I would think that would only really work where it’s friends of guildies together working cooperatively to get the PvP daily. (You kill me then I kill you agreements).

I also would prefer a daily win as any class.

About Tengu, I suspect the area above Brisbane (where there are bandits working on a bridge and there is a visible portal to the north) was their original starter zone. Brisbane already connects directly to the Asuran and Sylvari starter maps and to humans with a jog through Kessex. If the wall gates were ever opened, the portals could send you to their city out there and the Brisbane portal to the starter zone.

Well, they guard gates in the south-west of Lions Arch and east of Caledon Forest, making the Dominion of Winds somewhere in the Sea of Sorrows, so that is unlikely.

But still, I maintain that Tengu are not coming for a very long time, if ever.

Too much water in that area, so yah unlikely. But that doesn’t mean the gate portals can’t take you elsewhere. I read a quote sometime back suggesting that the city was not where it appeared to be which made me think of this, but finding things on this forum is difficult. >.>

Edit: or maybe not so hard. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dominion_of_Winds
The Shuttered Gate in Lion’s Arch is said by its tengu guards to lead to the Dominion of Winds, but isn’t likely to lead directly there as Lion’s Arch is not directly next to the Dominion of Winds, …..

If it’s added on to the game, it might not have the conventional personal story.
The one we have is defeating Zhaitan. If they are coming into the story now, it could be argued they are coming on after he was defeated and therefore having that story makes no sense.

They might put in new races, but not new personal stories. They will likely do it through Living Story.

In fact I would think no new kill Zhaitan storyline is a surety as it would be impossible to fit in with the old story that has the other races and them only.

Well my go to races are usually Norn, Charr, followed by Human.

If we get some Shadow Knight Class as the Rytlock spoiler photos indicate then it might be a Charr then since I imagine Rytlocks Shadow Knight armor wouldn’t clip.

??? as the Rytlock spoilers indicate? Looks like a Ritualist blindfold to me… the shadow knight thing is so cliche and played out I highly doubt this is the case.

What is a Ritualist and do the wear heavy armor?

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ritualist
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/List_of_ritualist_skills

Light armor. They specialized in calling up spirits that attacked, protected by taking your damage, or healed, or they could use or give allies weapons. In Guild Wars 1 you could have a main profession and a secondary. So, the main could be a heavy armor profession with a light armor secondary. The armor you wear depends on your primary profession.

Astral Projections.7320

Just to comment on a few points in your post OP.

When you’re “visiting lower level areas with my UBER level 80 OMFG char,” you are UBER. The only way to die is go afk while numerous mobs beat on you. Some professions at level 80 can be in a level 80 zone and go afk while a mob is beating on them and survive (Warior in Frostgorge afk while an arctodus beat on him. I watched and his health barely budged). In a noob zone, your level 80 playing with low levels will have to hold back to not one shot stuff. At level 30, no traits and random gear, you are nowhere near there.

Nodes: different games have different underlying philosophies. Some are competitive, some cooperative. Guild Wars 2 is strongly cooperative, to the point that if noncooperative play emerges, it will be removed. If cooperative play isn’t your cup of tea then this game will never be your home game.

Social: all a game can do is keep from putting barriers in front of you. I’ve read the forums of “The Game That Must Not Be Named.” People complaining that no one parties up with them to do quests. Their friend’s list is full of absent friends. Dungeons are run silently from start to finish. And that is a game that values group content. To be blunt, if you want friends you need to be a friend. If someone asks something in map chat and you know the answer, speak up. If someone needs help and asks in chat, say omw. Join a guild and join the conversation. The game isn’t going to hand out friends at login. You’ve got to do that yourself.

Maybe this game is for you, maybe it’s not. Try to take it on its own terms and maybe what you see as negatives will become positives.

Good luck.

Edit: geez I’m so glad I’ve gotten into the habit of saving before hitting reply. Annoying login again forum feature. >.>

I wish they had kept the option to do Wintersday dailies and have them go towards the meta. That way I could skip the ones I disliked or have trouble with while still progressing.

If they felt that was too easy, then maybe require several days worth of Wintersday dailies for one meta point. That way people who are having trouble in one area can still get the meta while giving extra reasons for people to do those dailies.

Ugly back item skins

Several of the crafter backpacks are pretty reasonable. Mainly the lower tier tailor and armorsmith ones also the simple chef’s backpack.

There is always the ‘hide back item’ option. Why must there be one?

reasonable in what sense? Because literally no one uses them. I’ve only ever seen one person use a crafting backpack, and that wasn’t a tailoring one (and there’s always a chance that they didnt know how to turn them off).

Why are people defending the notion of pouring art resources into a large number of items literally no one uses, instead of a handful of items people would be excited to use? I’m all for variety and pleasing different tastes, but if you look at the backpieces people actually use it’s pretty evident that there is a strong consensus on what people like and are willing to use.

Aww…I’ve just been ‘literally’ deemed no one. =(

Yes, me too. Amazing how many experts use “literally” to make a point though.

I’ve seen people use the crafted ones and there are a couple that I actually like. If they didn’t cost me one of my few (20 something) transmutation points, I might use them occasionally just to change looks.

How Does Reporting Work?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

As far as the reporting thing goes. I’ve reported plenty of people for being hostile and using offensive language. I have added them to my block list and still see them log in daily so I’m not entirely sure reporting anyone does a great deal unless multiple people are reporting them:/

But have they continued their hostility and/or offensive language? I imagine you wouldn’t know since they were blocked. I’m just saying that in every other MMO I’ve played, this kind of behavior runs rampant (multiple instances of per day). That, to me, is an indication that consequences are lax and/or non-existent. I see this kind of thing in Guild Wars 2 maybe once a month (if that). This tells me that someone somewhere is cracking down on this behavior.

@Arietta
In addition, the first offense is 72 hours suspension. So unless you log in every day and your play time is the same as theirs, it’s quite possible for them to serve the suspension and you never know. If they shaped up after that then of course they wouldn’t be getting more time outs. So just because you see them playing doesn’t mean reporting doesn’t work.

I’d be inclined to say at this point, get a whole new forum that functions properly and have this forum be archived but accessible for quotes.

It really seems that ANet is tinkering around with a poorly built forum, trying to get it to work. Seeing you dump various specialty forums into the general forum so that forum is now a pile of badly mixed parts and closing off other parts of it so no outsiders can access it doesn’t inspire confidence in the forum structure,

That is so very odd. What I would have considered childish is to engage in constant name calling and the like, not an effort to reduce such behavior. I guess, “you are a big fat meanie,” is not childish but, “hey guys lets try to avoid name calling,” is ?

This post definitely wasn’t a “hey guys lets try to avoid name calling”. It was a “I make this pledge! Come, everyone, follow me on an adventure to not use these terms and use other, equally-insulting terms instead!”

I don’t understand why people think this is a bad idea. The OP only suggested that like minded players, who have grown tired of this language in discussion threads simply not participate in those threads. Nothing more.

If that’s what you choose to do, then do it. You don’t need others validation for it. The only reason for a post like this is a call to action against words on a forum. You could have been ‘not participating in those threads’ this whole time! Isn’t it amazing? Self control is a good thing.

Actually it’s a call to lack of action, not a call to action. The OP is suggesting not responding. That’s quite a difference. OP said, “Henceforth, the following ad hominim attacks (and any variation thereof) will be ignored.”

I used to be able to make my own decisions how to fit the daily into my routine. Go to Silverwastes and get events, dodge, harvest for example while grinding for badges. Or maybe hit the champs in Frostgorge for events while getting rez and dodge in that map or perhaps I’ll wander by Orr today and get my dailies while I play there.

It’s kind of a subtle point maybe but instead of being told what I can do to get rewarded, I’m told what and where. Being able to play as you want where you want and get rewarded is better than being told where to play to get rewarded.

I get it, which is why I don’t really break my back if I don’t like the looks of the dailies. It’s only AP and I can earn it some other way – it eventually caps after all, so after it does . . . I don’t get anything from doing them.

So I don’t fret.

Well, for me it’s not the AP so much, though its nice. It’s the laurels which I badly need to finish gearing my chars. As soon as I get 5 together, they’re gone. With the new dailies I can use the tomes and writs on my key runner, saving me time and gold to level it. Or I can put them aside in case there is a new profession and I want to level fast. The gem store items are useful. I do like the rewards for PvP and WvW, though I find that area of the game not as fun.

All in all, the rewards for doing them are good. I just would prefer that the PvE dailies which are my “bread and butter” dailies for getting rewarded hadn’t been changed to a more restrictive and less fun version.

Well, the Laurels are no longer on the dailies . . . just the logins. And you can even log into a character and walk away before bed (as I did one time, by basically passing out at the desk) and still get it for that day.

Anyway, yeah, the Dailies no longer have Laurels. No need to worry about how bad they are

That’s true, I forgot. I still have use for the other rewards though. The writs/tomes, the WvW exp, the extra PvP points. Enough that I’ve been doing more than the minimum 3.

I don’t think the PvE dailies are getting people to do what I believe ANet wants people to do, use the daily as an incentive to go to maps you don’t usually go to and spend time there. When vista is up, instead of doing mapping and getting a vista, people go to the appropriate city and get it. If it’s harvesting, the lucky ones will get what they can from the home instance and get the final node in the nearest map. The rest make a quick run thru the map and leave. Events are racing from one to another to get credit, then leaving once the award dings. I can’t see how this is what ANet wanted. The new daily motivates people to treat it like a list to be checked off. Playing by someone else’s list is not fun. At least with the old system you could just play, for fun, and get some of them done if not all.

This isn’t that different from how people did the old system, aside from complaining about how it was forced due to needing to have them to get their Laurels and AP. Now the only legitimate complaint about having something held away and needing to do the dailies . . . is for AP.

Also of note, some people have posted in this thread or others about how they did treat the Daily list as a list of things to get done.. (Myself, I used/use it sometimes as a guideline for ‘what do I want to do today’) . . .

This leads me to the conclusion the Dailies never worked as people seem to think they were supposed to, short of one particular way – getting people to at least log in daily even if it’s to look at the list and nope away from them.

I used to be able to make my own decisions how to fit the daily into my routine. Go to Silverwastes and get events, dodge, harvest for example while grinding for badges. This is completely valid and it’s true as long as your goal was just the daily.

If your goal was 10 points (like you get today) then it’s no longer true, since in the old dailies to get those 10 points I’d have to go further out of my way and take much longer.

10 points, 8 points, 6 points. Meh, who cares. The old system, I looked at the list, picked out 5 then maybe 2 or 3 more if they interested me. Then I decided where I wanted to play and how I wanted to fit them into my routine. I always tried to do the minimum to get the daily but I might or might not do more.

I don’t hate the new dailies. I just find them unnecessarily restrictive and because of the restrictions I find them more boring.

And how are we supposed to save them? Can someone make a thread where people can put old posts for future reference? Or are we supposed to copy the posts we want and put them in a file somewhere?

If someone has a question and an answer was on a inaccessible thread, do we put the answer from it that we previously saved even though no one can verify if what we say is true or if we are making it up?

What would you add to the HoM?

I would add my Rit to the HoM and transfer her over.

What will happen with Monthly AP?

As it says: "Finally, in a release coming early next year, we will merge the existing daily and monthly achievement point caps into one pool. This will allow players to continue working toward the maximum point totals for the daily achievement system without the existence of monthly achievements. "

Instead of two pools there will be one pool. The monthly and daily will go together into one pool and then only daily will increase it. You won’t lose AP, it will be merged. I read in the forum that the new pool will be 15k but can’t find an official post and wiki isn’t updated for the new information yet.

If you drag 1 stack of any ascended material out of your inventory and press ok, you get awarded with 1 free inventory space.

Isnt that awesome?

(Clutches her dragonite to her bosom, staring in shock at the person who dared to suggest deleting her hoard)

No! One day I might get a blue for this stack. Maybe even a green. How can I possibly delete when such treasures await me? I might have to wait months. I might tie up all my inventory for a year or more but one day my green will come. (Walks off mumbling to herself about crazy suggestions).

Well there are 4 possibilities,

Gilded Infusion: +20% Gold from monsters
Magical Infusion: +20% Magic Find
Experienced Infusion: +20% Experience from kills
Karmic Infusion: +15% karma

This is my opinion on them
1) Gilded: least useful. Most mobs drop only a few copper and 20% of not much isn’t much more
2) Magical: pretty good but with caveats. Only works on mobs killed and now in the new area on bandit chests if you have the perseverance buff. This means it has no effect on champ bags, various loot bags or chests. So if you aren’t killing a lot of mobs or aren’t opening bandit chests, it’s not doing anything for you. Good for going to Orr and doing events that have lots of mobs to kill though.
3) Experienced: good if leveling. Not as good if not. Will help you get extra skill points if you use the mystic forge, but so does killing champs. (And if you kill champs you get the champ bags with their loot too).
4) Karma: Good if you have a use for it, such as saving up for temple armor or a Legendary. Not as good if you don’t. However with karma you can buy certain karma items and forge them to get something you can salvage or sale. For example there are gloves you can buy with karma, forge them and get an item you can salvage for linen. Or you can buy karma items to fill out your wardrobe and mystic forge them to salvage what you get. If you get level 80 karma cultural weapons (at 63,000 karma each or 252,000 karma for 4 of them) you’ll get another rare or possibly an exotic. Theoretically you could get a precursor.

Which one is best for you depends on how you play and what you need.

You will need to contact support and talk to them. You can probably do it from Guild Wars 2 support.

Top of page: support
Top of page: submit a request
(There are 2 drop down options in the ticket where a choice needs to be made)

Good luck.

dueling

It’s an interesting suggestion but I’m not sure it addresses the concerns about harassment.

/duel

Duel me bro, come on, touch it. TOUCH IT! What’s the matter, you chicken? HEY EVERYONE LOOK AT THIS GUY TOO COWARDLY TO TOUCH THE POLE!

As I understand the previous concerns it’s not so much the request to duel that is bothering people but the harassment people say they encounter. Which is why I was suggesting a gem store item. If you don’t have one it’s the ultimate, no I can’t.

I realize that but wouldn’t that pretty much be considered the same way as other bothersome people/goldsellers? Block them and/or report them.

While there will be some idiots (there always are), putting such a feature as dueling in the gemstore would solve only be a hindrance for most people while your “Touch it!” example-idiot would only add the “or are you a coward AND cheap” comment as well.

It was only a implementation suggestion but overall I feel dueling would do more good than harm and without introducing other than already existing problems.

Yes, no doubt you can block/report people who are harassing you. I was pointing out though that that suggestion doesn’t take care of one of the reasons why people in this thread are opposing dueling, harassment upon refusal and encouraging others to also harass you (as some have already objected to dueling on these grounds).

I feel everyone is too locked into “right-click and select duel on someone”. Why not have it implemented like /rank or through an item-like thing? For example write “/duel” and your character will plant a dueling flag which other players can walk up to and interact with to initiate the duel.

That way you CAN’T spam duels on people who doesn’t want it, no need to even add an ignoring option. It would work like a guild booster banner, I can see no problems with this other than “blocking” interactive things, but that problem already exists and I only see it as a slight annoyance (tab ftw).

It’s an interesting suggestion but I’m not sure it addresses the concerns about harassment.

Am I the only one finding the negative responses to this thread ironic and telling at the same time?

Yeah, I was thinking that while reading this thread. It’s almost like some of them feel threatened in some way.

I would support it so long as it is only in a specified are; a dedicated spvp lobby or an isolated zone/separate instance in a city (like the crown pavilion is part of Divinity’s Reach but separate and not somewhere you just kinda wander into)

The Bane in the Black Citadel is one possible place. It’s in a PvE area so you will keep your PvE gear and it’s behind a portal so that duelers are away from everyone else. It can have a check at the portal saying it’s a PvP dueling area if people innocently wandering in is a concern.

Or it can be an arena that requires a gem store pass, like the Royal Terrace. No pass means no access to the dueling area and there is no ability to duel outside the arena.
