Yeah. Makes no sense. I’m certainly not going to level articifer on every one of my chars. At the very least it should be account bound and truthfully, why not be able to sell them. Other potions are sellable.

I’m not exactly “down with the lingo” – what is horizontal and what is vertical progression? I’d imagine vertical progression is white->blue->green->yellow->orange->… and horizontal is like exotic berserker, exotic cleric, exotic assassin, … Am I wrong in this presumption?

So it’s safe to craft ascended gear then. Thank you guys.

Vertical progression is like WoW. Every expansion has higher levels and the old gear is now outdated. The players have to get a whole new set.

Horizontal progression is like Guild Wars 1. That game is now 10 years old. The highest level is still 20 and there have been no stat increases in gear. Changes to your character are playing the game to get more skills or is cosmetic.

Guild Wars 2, except for the addition of ascended, so far has been horizontal progression but mostly cosmetic horizontal progression.

I have 2 accounts in Guild Wars 1 and used to sometimes run them simultaneously. I never noticed any problems. Running gw1 and gw2 at the same time, they aren’t even the same client. If your computer can handle 2 games up at the same time then it shouldn’t be any problem.

Astral Projections.7320

Guild Wars 1 was a horizontal game. You got to level 20 and got your gear. After that, any gear, no matter how expensive, had the exact same stats. Any change was cosmetic only.

When they promoted Guild Wars 2 way back then, they specifically said that when you go to level 80 you would have easy access to the best gear. When they added ascended after launch, there was a big backlash and a number of people quit playing. It’s still a hot topic in the forums after all this time.

I don’t see them adding gear stats greater than ascended. Expanding on it, yes. A higher gear level, no.

It’s legit to do so and it’s also possible that you’ll get banned. However if you spell it out in email (which I would use. Keep the emails for proof) or chat between the 2 of you what you’re doing then it’s a lot less likely. If either still gets banned, you can contact support and tell them what you were doing, pointing out the conversation, and get it reversed. Might take a couple of days though.

Your guildie can also contact support and tell them he was transferring funds between his 2 accounts and get it reversed.

Yes. Supply can’t be very high and being undercut isn’t really unexpected. Give it time. Pulling and relisting each time you get undercut will eat up your money. This isn’t a fast moving market, Eventually those will be sold and then yours.

I find I miss the loss of options.

The old dailies, sometimes I would treat them as a to do list and sometimes I would go to an area and simply play and complete them while playing (dodge, rez, harvest, condition apply, cleanse). Now they are done as a list only. Something to get done before I can enjoy playing.

I don’t even want to stay in a map after I’ve done my events because others are trying to get their events done. Each event is over crowded with people trying to do enough to get credit and I don’t want to be part of the problem. I do enough to get credit then leave so others can get credit. For the first time that I can remember, I’m not glad to see others and I feel they aren’t glad to see me.

Seems to be a problem for a number of people

One possible fix posted here from StinVec and CriminalMind: Source
“Clear the game cache
In addition to ‘Running As Administrator’ helping with many issues other than just the TP, most TP-specific issues are primarily related to some temporary GW2 files where removing them will allow them to be recreated and the TP to function properly again.
The quickest way to clear the GW2 Cache is to:
1) Ensure your game is completely closed.
2) Hold your “Windows Key” and press “F” to open Windows Search on your computer.
3) Search for “gw2cache”. It will find a folder called “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” at: “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Local\Temp”
Delete this “gw2cache-{bunch-of-letters-and-numbers}” folder that is shown in the results.
4) Load up your game normally and your TP should now function properly.”

Transformation tonics that are useable in combat and last an hour with no cooldown.

Guild Wars 1 had these tonics. A whole party of identical Joras or Gwens (for example) could go out and do dungeons/quests/mapping/whatever. They were innocent, light hearted fun that’s not available in this game.

Just extending the time on the WatchKnight Tonic to an hour and removing the cooldown would be a good start as that item is pretty much useless the way it is now.

There was a post back when town clothes were discontinued and outfits started which has some relevance, particularly these 2 sentences: Source (page 18)

(Snip)
“Outfits give us a way to create highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class.” (Snip)

And this
(snip)
“there are some fundamental incompatible things between weight classes. (part of how we set up every armor to allow many dye channels and styles per piece)” (snip)

As I understand it, because of the way different weight classes are set up and with the different dye channels, there isn’t a way to gave the same look across all the 3 different armor types. The outfits are handled as a 4th armor type that all the classes can wear and it’s either a unified look or nothing.

Astral Projections.7320

Everyone gets infractions. People are unused to being held to standards with their every word. Even at work you can say things to coworkers that you can’t “officially” say. Combine that with posting from your home where you are used to saying whatever you want and it’s easy to forget that your words are being scrutinized by people who are paid to hold your speech to their standards.

The best I can suggest is, every time you post keep in mind you are posting on someone else’s property, not yours, and that they have rules you have to follow. Be careful with emotions in your post. Be logical and constructive. Don’t get into arguments (not the same as disagreements). Write the same type of post as if you are writing a paper for school or work.

There’s the old joke with the punch line. Location. Location. Location. The “punch line” here is Constructive. Constructive. Constructive. Keep that in mind and it will keep infractions to a minimum.

If you find yourself getting into an argument with someone responding to you, it might be a good idea to set a timer for an hour. Wait, before you respond. You can type out your first response to get it out of your system if that helps. Then delete, wait, cool off, think it over. Then respond.

I try not to say anything so negative about another user other than describing the behavior they demonstrate, that I believe they themselves would agree they portray. I hope we agree that there are people who post on this forum who will always highlight a silverlining, and ignore the larger grey cloud underneath.

The moment you respond to someone in your thread where you describe their behavior rather than address the points of their argument is the moment you derail your own thread and start fights in it. This will lead, at best, to posts being deleted and at worse to locked threads.

There are undoubtably people who will always highlight a silver lining but truthfully, I haven’t seen many of them on this forum. More likely this person is someone who is good at pointing out flaws in arguments or is quick to jump on posts that are negative without being constructive. Someone who points out the flaws in arguments or who picks apart negative posts is not a white knight, no matter how much he irritates the people who make these posts.

While you are waiting for them to fix the situation to your satisfaction, from now on when you report a gold seller, take an additional second and block him. That’s bound to be less annoying than receiving multiple messages.

Possibly report (all reports) and block are separate as there may be times when someone wants to report but doesn’t want to block. Reporting for gold selling is a subset of report and it may not be easy to have block attached to it but not the others.

ANet has said several times that permabanned accounts lose the char names permanently as part of the punishment and they have no plans to change this.

As to accounts that have been gone for a long time, they want no barriers to those people returning. It would be a strong disincentive to return if you logged and all your chars had lost their names You pay for your account, and it and the names on it are good until the game closes down.

Guild Wars 1 has been on for 10 years now and they have never released names, no matter how long it was since the person last played, and they are keeping to this policy.

It was at the wurm yesterday. Gaile was there and some players took the opportunity to start complaining in map chat about the NPE. It was pointed out that she wasn’t there in her official position as Arenanet Forum Communications Team Lead and that complaining to her about the game in map chat while waiting for the event wasn’t the most appropriate thing to do since she was not working at her titled job right then and that the most appropriate thing was to post needed information in the forum for her to see when she was gathering information.

That doesn’t mean though she was asking for someone to make a separate new thread or to repost old information that he had already posted before.

GW2 needs a Huge Tutorial Instance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

You had to do all of it to earn an insignia, it was a tutorial and everyone had to do it. The tutorial they give you in the beginning is very very basic. It doesn’t tell you how to use skills or builds. The insignia supplied that. But you could never skip it on any factions character.

Went to look again, the insignia quest itself which is what I mean and am remembering somewhat fondly here appears to be completely skippable. I picked up the quest but didn’t think to take screenshot of that, there’s four options (sub quests) and the game asked me to do two. All the options can be done of course.
I think the remaining options stay there with another NPC if not done right away but I only did this all maybe once and it was a while ago, I’m not sure how it worked.
In my screenshots, the second character (pictured first) never did get the insignia, the first one (pictured second) did.

As a bonus screenshot, one of those tablets that are there in Shing Jea Monastery. <3
I really like what GW does with the info in here.

Tutorials would be acceptable if they would be 100% optional and repeatable. Why force at possibly inconvenient time or restrict this useful information?

AFAIK the game won’t let you get to the next mission until you do that quest.

What is this horizontal progression you speak of?.. because from what i noticed this game has no vertical (ok barely with ascended) and no horizontal progression at all.

Vertical progression is where the endgame is increased stats. Horizontal progression is where the endgame is not through stat increases but some other method of improving your char. In this game it’s armor/weapon skins.

GW2 needs a Huge Tutorial Instance

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astral Projections.7320

I remember Guild Wars 1. The tutorial taught concepts like how to walk around, how to attack, the minimap, aggro, death, boss auras, morale boosts, how to ping on the mini map, how to call targets, party up with others and other things. All that before you got into the main part of the game. The tutorial also had a skip option if you didn’t want to do that.

Guild Wars 2 could have a tutorial that teaches (for example) how to call targets, the down state and its skills, how to pick up and drop bundles, how to rez someone. It could kill you and have you waypoint. It could explain combo fields and demonstrate them. It could let you attack something and tell you to move around and not stand in the same spot.

I was really surprised that this game didn’t (and doesn’t) have an effective tutorial to teach game mechanics when they did it so well with the first game.

You brought over a vertical progression based person (IF IM NOT THE BEST IM NOTHING) to a horizontal progression based game. It’s not surprising they think there’s no end game since to them, there isn’t.

In addition, you encouraged him to think badly about the game.

(That place is awful
I wish they didn’t mess up the story
Well, it was too complicated for new players. I’m not joking. So ANet revamped everything and dumbed it down
But then, that kind of kills it for people who do know how to play mmos -.- )

Telling him this before they go there “tells” him how to feel about it ahead of time. After all, if that’s how you feel it must be right. He never got a chance to encounter it without already knowing “that it’s bad, that it killed it for people who know how to play MMOs” (Which means if he did try it and like it, he is one of the people who doesn’t know how to play MMOs. It’s a way to subtly encourage someone to never like something as they won’t want to be seen as inferior). Your conversation with him makes me wonder what else you told him that was negative and put him off the game.

One person, who is used to and likes to play vertical progression games and who was told by his friend that the story line and EOTM is bad (and no telling what else you told him was bad), is not a good sample to base your analysis of the NPE.

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

@Moon – I think them bringing a new class or race is the very thing that will bring this whole trait issue to the forefront.
There are multitudes of veterans that haven’t created new characters or alts. There are plenty of new players that think a single build is all they have to trait hunt for and at most a second back up build worth of traits.
However, if Anet introduces a new race or class there will be a lot of players that will be forced to do this trait hunt or buy them. Either way it will introduce a lot more players to the current system.
PS – I agree with your frustrations and have voiced suggestions and opinions and pleas in the past. I have stepped away from posting here except for the occasional one in order to give new people their time in the thread.
Back to lurking again.

Every char I have was created long before the trait changes and the only reason I know about it is because I read the forums. I imagine there are a large number of people who don’t read the forums and who aren’t leveling recently created chars who know nothing about this.

If it’s as bad as y’all describe and if they do make new professions/races without any changes then it should be……Interesting……to read the new threads on the forums.

There. You hit the nail on the head.
In my many years of working experience, this is exactly the type of thing that someone who desperately wants to justify their paycheck (but knows they actually do not deserve it as they aren’t really qualified) would do. And that a boss that doesn’t really care about the results, and has the paycheck safely secured, would approve. I’ve seen it soooo many times.

And that goes for virtually all achievements. It’s crazy that it works (our brains are incredibly easy to trick), but they’re nothing else.

“Hey, you made it to lvl80! Here, have an achievement!”
“Good, good, you salvaged enough items. Here, an achievement for you.”
“You did 4 events in this zone! How nice of you. Have an achievement.”

I always get a bit perplexed when people tell me that they’re in for the AP. Does this… motivate… you? Exactly how boring is your day that achievement points can motivate you? O.o

This is a horizontal progression game where at least 4 different weapon and armor skin types are locked behind AP gain (Zenith, Hellfire, Radiant, and Pinnacle so far). People who play vertical progression games grind for increased stats. People who play horizontal games grind for looks. It has nothing to do with how boring their day is.

If I understand celestial correctly, the only way to get it to work equally well on all classes would be to homogenize the classes so that they are equal in all their strengths and weaknesses. In that case, why have different classes with different strengths and weaknesses? Just have one class, right?

It really doesn’t make sense to revamp, merge and switch around traits just to accommodate this one build (trashing all the other builds which capitalize on a classes strengths). No, bad idea.

How?

“The problem with guard is that you dont get much from the condi dmg.”
Do they homogenize the classes so that, for example, a guardian puts out the same amount of condition damage as a necro?

It’s a niche build. What changes would they have to make to make it viable for all classes?

Its possible to make runs into enemy camps to grab the point of interest and sneak around to get the skill points. Most of the time you’ll survive.

Generally it’s recommend that people get WvW fairly early during exploration as it can take the longest and be the most frustrating. If your map isn’t strong you’ll have to get the places as they come up.

I think regions would be too general, considering that is one of the ‘harder’ 2 achievements (each category has 2 ‘easier’ and 2 ‘harder’ achievements).

The better idea I’ve seen is that the map should be randomised for all players. So instead of everyone having Snowdon, some people have it, others have Wayfarers, other have Straits of Devastation, etc.

I can see one possible problem with this idea. It would split up people who normally do dailies together, sending one to one map and one to another. They would either need to start doing them alone or do each person’s set of events together however many times it takes, depending on the group size. Region wide would disperse the zerg while allowing them to play together.

Add any other PvE achieves to the same region (vista viewing and harvesting). Keep it all together so it can be done together and not map hopping for each. The new system actively discourages people from staying in one map for longer than is absolutely necessary.
