(I was going to suggest Confused Flaming Melons but, too long).

It would help to know if you like serious names, fanciful names, names to role play by., etc. Asking for names without giving any sort of hint means you are unlikely to get a name you can use.

It was much more RNG before. RNG on whether you got one then RNG for what you got. Now you’re getting 4 every 28 days, guaranteed. Before this I would go 2 or 3 weeks without getting one. This system is much more generous.

Astral Projections.7320

Preface: I am not by anymeans harcore. I’ve leveled 10 toons, they are in exotics and ascened trinkets.

First, there ARE bosses that drop unique armor/weapon sets – Tequatl and Triple Trouble both have (small) chances to drop unique Ascended items. It sounds like you don’t like the RNG though, so maybe you’re looking for something like the dungeon armor? Yes, it only drops from dungeons or PvP, though folks in various threads have offered suggestions on mixing that up. Or maybe the Silverwastes’ Luminous armor, which is exclusively PvE and not excessively grindy? Last season, Scarlet had a chance to drop Scarlet’s Kiss and Scarlet’s Rainbow – the only mega-amazing drop I’ve ever looted.

Second, what would be an example of good/special loot, in your mind? Does it need to have a fancy skin? Be expensive? How should it be earned? Clearly “a chance” to drop from a boss isn’t enough. Would you prefer a reward track? I certainly would! Try not to use a precursor as an example, since that’s been discussed ad nauseum.

Finally, what would be a good example of progression? What are your goals in playing the game? If the answer is just “to have fun,” then what do you enjoy doing?

You asked some good questions and made some good points.

what would be an example of good/special loot, in your mind? Does it need to have a fancy skin? Be expensive?

Yes to all. Frankly, I think almost all of the skins are mediocre in this game. If it was an especially nice looking skin, it would likely be valuable. It might also be valuable if it were part of a coveted set. A valuable peice, like a precursor or an expensive upgrade, craftinging mat, or even a dye. (I know they don’t drop.) back pieces, ascended items.

frankly loot needs an overhaul. There’s just way too much junk in this game. It should be scaled way down.

Finally, what would be a good example of progression? What are your goals in playing the game? If the answer is just “to have fun,” then what do you enjoy doing?

I like doing the DE’s from the world bosses to the smallest most obscure. That is fun for me. I’d like drop rewards to go with that. Too much emphasis has been put on world bosses for their chests because frankly no loot drops anywhere. (where you basically spam 1)

I had a blast the other day fighting gargantula with 2 other guys. How awesome would it have been to get loot for that? yeah i got a champ bag but I have never once gotten anything special from a champ bag.

I like the “play your own way system”, but it doesn’t really exist.

If you think almost all the skins are mediocre in this game then what sort of skins are you looking for that this game doesn’t supply. Because the skins range from plain to shiny, from small to outsized. If there is a fair range of skins and what you want isn’t there then maybe you need to detail what exactly would be a fancy skin.

The problem with wanting a valuable skin to drop, if it’s valuable it’s going to be a rare drop and therefore few will get it as a drop. If it’s not rare and many had one, would it still be part of a coveted set? Even if it still looked the same?

Again, you need to clarify what is a fancy skin and how to keep them as something coveted if they are a common enough drop that many have them.

The way it’s currently set up, you can get 55 laurels every 28 days for logging in (that’s almost 2 laurels a day for logging in). As for the 5AP points, getting 10AP is trivially easy for those that don’t set restrictions on themselves.

Astral Projections.7320

The point isn’t whether or not OP should have said something to his wife about all the level 80s. The point is that any new players in that zone trying to level that day were having their events, mobs and hearts roflstomped by level 80s before they could do them.

If they are new and don’t know anyone who could tell them that this isn’t usual, then it’s going to be frustrating. They don’t know how to get to another zone and even if they do, as far as they know the situation will be the same there.

If I was a new person on my first day, didn’t know anyone and couldn’t get anything done because hordes of people were continuously ruining my events, I wouldn’t know to change zones or that it would make a difference if I did. It would be very frustrating and I wouldn’t know it wasn’t usual.

What I’m seeing in map chat while farming nodes in Frostgorge on a ‘kill Jormag’ day is, they don’t like the specific bosses. They are getting to the map early, either because they don’t know about the timer and they go there right away after they log in or they are afraid to get there late and get on a map with only a few people. Lots of complaints about having to wait an hour or more for that one boss to start up.

I would suggest that it be changed to any world boss. Many of these bosses are only once every few hours and this makes it difficult for people who only have a short time to play yet want to get the reward for this daily.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astral Projections.7320

While I personally like the dailies they do need tweaking.

I can’t speak for PvP/WvW but for PvE:
1) add general options from the old sytem like the dodge and interrupt.
2) spread out the zerg for events. That part is bad. Trying to get credit for events and getting there before they end with a large crowd of people also trying for the same thing, is not fun.
3) put the different objectives from the new daily in the same zone (not map). All visa viewing, harvesting, events, meta boss, all in the same region (not map). There is really no point to hop to this map to view a visa, go to a second map to harvest, a third map to do events and a fourth map to do the last meta boss. I know y’all want us to go different places but 3 or 4 different maps is too many and really more annoying than anything.

If you don’t want people spending their time chasing the chest rewards, block the rewards after 4 done. They can do 4, the rewards stop and they wont be spending their time farming chests.

And PLEASE! Spread out the zerg on events, whatever you do, do that.

I don’t think there are ascended earrings anywhere yet, so that would be one definite thing for Jewelry 500 to do.

For food, I imagine either 3rd minor buffs per food, unusual or coveted stat combinations (similar to the toxic utilities), or extended durations (similar to the Potent Master Maintenance Oil).

Actually there are ascended earrings. For some reason they are called accessories, not earrings. /shrug. They can be bought from a Laurel merchant for 40 laurels and 50 ectos or from a Guild Commendation Trader for 5 gold and 12 Guild Commendations.

Strange. I didn’t know pets were able to die. I remember back in beta they would die and have the dead ally sign on the map. That was removed as people were complaining about dead players and dead pets both showing on the map and making it hard to figure out that a person needed rezzing. Also pets were getting revived instead of a player when they were next to each other. Iirc there also was a problem with people not switching out dead pets and running around dragging the dead pets behind them. So death was removed and defeated put in. I guess I there is sufficient damage they can go past defeated to dead.

Astral Projections.7320

Good suggestions OP. I hope ANet reads and this doesn’t fall off the front page of the forum in a couple of hours (or less). I like the new system and its rewards but it does need tweaking.

Suggestion 1: Rotating the dailies among different people can cause it’s own problems though. Let’s say 2 people always do dailies together. With your proposed rotation one person could be sent off to kryta and the other to maguuma (for example). I can see this causing it’s own set of valid complaints.

I like suggestion 2 the best. Spreads people out while not separating groups. Minimizes map hopping while at the same time gets people into different maps.

There are way too many people trying to do the events at one time. I have fully traited levels 80s with a mix of exotic and ascended gear. I find myself in an odd position where I have to simultaneously rush to hit a mob and get credit while holding back so I don’t melt the mobs and deny others credit. Having a few people with you to do an event is fun. It’s not really fun when it’s a huge crowd chasing after a handful of mobs.

Great news! You don’t need to do JPs to get the ornaments. Even relatively easy chests award them. For instance, the little chest in Wayfarer’s at Wurmhowl Spikes. Or those round chests in Orr.

I’m not sure why players believe only JP chests award the Ornaments.

Good luck.

I was going by wiki where it said that the chests needed to be Magnificent, Splendid or Grand.

Acquisition: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mysterious_Grubby_Package

View a vista? Really?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

I guess I’d like to ask people: Where does it End?

So Anet after a few weeks looks at their metrics. Everyone is going to the same/easiest vista. They’ve gone into a routine. Well this is not what they intended! So what now. Do they spend time and money on naming each vista and randomizing them into the daily: View Vista1 in Kryta, View Vista2 in Kryta, View VistaX in Y. Where does it end?

Are you seriously that hung up on the vista thing? If you don’t want to do the vista, then don’t do it. I am sure there will be plenty of times when I won’t do the vista(just because the daily will have a couple things I can do in wvw while fighting).

I don’t know, it is probably not important at all……just curious why the viewpoint thing is bugging you so much? Why didn’t the gathering, or recycler option of the old dailies not bug you as much?

Is it because of the specific language in the update?

You don’t have to answer any of my questions……just curious, but it is no biggy.

My guess is that OP thinks that every single daily will have ‘view vista’ and doesn’t realize that the dailies will be different daily. That he doesn’t realize there will be a rotation of a list. My guess is also that OP doesn’t realize that the vista is put in there for the low level people to do so they can get the achieve points, since they might not be able to get to the higher level zones to do the other achieves.

No one has said that dailie achievements were a challenge. In fact, the game had very little challenge.

Sure, I don’t find it difficult either. Over the last few days however many players have complained about the accessibility of these dailies whether is be through schedule, skill, etc…

The purpose of the daily achievements was to get players to experience other areas of the game and reward them for doing so.

Do you have a source for this? I stand by the opinion that the true purpose of the dailies is to make players log in. Simple as that. It’s a way for Anet to boost metrics (now in all areas of the game).

Source

This is the blog, part of which discuses dailies, back in Jan 2013 and their reasons for them.

“We’ll add support so daily achievements will be different each day of the week, which will help drive players to different areas of the world and play together.”

So a stated reason here for dailies is to move people to different maps and to different types of play.

Wintersday is going to be around for 4 weeks, that’s 28 days or 672 hours, so even if the max time needed is 51 hours for all of the Wintersday achievements, that will still only take 13.2% of the total time Wintersday is around, compared to how we waste the majority of our lives sleeping and working, I don’t think a little over 13% is really excessive,

Using your numbers as a base, imo it is excessive. Even if spread out evenly over the 28 days, that’s over 1.8 hours a day, every day, logged in and working just on that. That’s a fair amount of time, each playing game day, to dedicate to that. For many people, that’s way more time than they can give. I would suspect many can only give an hour a day here and there, or less.

These numbers makes this achieve only reachable for the truly dedicated. I’m not sure that making holiday achieves and rewards are best served as a reward for the relatively few who can reach them. Other parts of the game can be a massive grind (the badges for the new armor is a good example), but holiday stuff should be easy for casuals to get to reward them for logging on and playing. A frustrating long grind for a reward is not a good idea for the holidays

My 2 cents.

Getting upset with outfits

Astral Projections.7320

An old thread about the end of town clothes and the start of outfits (Source) said that outfits allowed an ability to have highly stylized looks that aren’t constrained to armor slots or weight class and would be difficult to bring to all the armor classes because of constraints in how the different classes are made and how the dye channels are set up. As a fourth armor class it’s free of these restrictions.

Armor fills one niche and outfits another. I don’t expect outfits to do the exact same thing as armor does. Each as its strengths and weaknesses.

I almost always had to go different places to get all of them I was doing that day. If I was in Silverwaste and there was aquatic for example, I had to leave. Most times I had favorite spots for specific dailies and went there to do them. After they were done, then I played “how I wanted.”

Not only is it now faster and I get more achieve points but the rewards are better. Besides, it’s good for them to change it up occasionally. Gets people out of their comfort zone and helps to revive stale content.

"Play How I Want" Is Gone

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

The idea of play how you want has been taken so far out of it’s original context, it’s lost all it’s meaning. Anet was pretty clear on what they meant.

In most games, you level by going quest hub to quest hub and that’s pretty much what you do, until you get to a high enough level to go to the next quest hub, afterwhich you do dungeons then you raid. That’s the PvE experience of most themepark MMOs.

Here you go:

It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards.

I want to play Tequatl and Fractals 50 and CoE speedruns to get AP to get the most powerful rewards of Hellfire and Vambrace skins and the upcoming Pinnacle weapon skins.

Can I? No. I have to grind Queensdale events and harvest plants in Caledon. Yay?..

There is another quote in that very same blog that is relevant: “We’ll add support so daily achievements will be different each day of the week, which will help drive players to different areas of the world and play together.”

They always intended for people to go here and there, doing different things to get the achievements. It never was play where you want to get those rewards. People may have been able to do so, but it wasn’t their original intention.

The only heart I can think of offhand where you kill ambients is in Bloodtide, the heart with the diseased Quaggans, and one of the options is to kill ambient crows. There are people farming those ambients each time I’ve done that heart. However you can also stomp the numerous green rats, burn Quaggan corpses, rez the healers when dead, and kill any red mobs.

While I admit it’s a little annoying to have people farming what I could be using to advance the heart, it’s not like killing ambients is the only thing that could be done and it doesn’t slow me down. If ambients spawn in front of me, I kill them. Otherwise the other objectives are sufficient.

You can delete on your friend’s list because that’s on your account. The followers is showing what’s on their list on their account. So to really delete, you would need the ability to modify a list that is on someone else’s account. I very much doubt that will ever happen.

How exactly is ANet supposed to remove them from your sight? They are not going set up a way to go into someone else’s account to remove names from a friend’s list. The only other option I can see is the ability to make the name invisible, even though it’s still there. Truthfully, I doubt they are going to spend the time setting this up. There isn’t a crowd of people clamoring for it and you do have the option to take them off your follower list by blocking them.

I got one. It’s pretty nice. Crafting, mystic forge, bank, Trading post, guild banks, merchants, a portal to each of the other cities. All close to one each other (not spread out).

The only thing I wish it did is allow you to jump back to where you came from if you clicked on it again. Other than that it’s useful.

Maybe block them? Blocking a follower removes them from your follower list and adds them to your block list. (Then don’t look at the block list if you don’t want to see them).

You say you don’t want to block but they remind you of bad memories and you probably will never speak to them anyway, so might as well block if you really want them off your follower list so you can’t see them.

Try reading this site then. It has other suggestions.

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
“My client is stuck updating at 99% with one file left. What should I do?
First, locate and delete your local.dat file which can be found in your Documents > Guild Wars 2 folder.
Next, reboot your computer and launch Guild Wars 2 again. After seeing the “1 file remaining” message, a secondary protocol should kick in to download the missing file from the backup system. This process usually takes about 10 minutes.
If after 15 minutes or so you find that the above process has not resolved the issue – that is, you’re still stuck at a 99% download – please try this work-around: Change the language setting for the launcher (in the top right corner of your screen) to a different language. At that time, the download should complete. Once that occurs, change the launcher back to your original language and log in to play.”

If that doesn’t work, maybe try a client repair.

I think I saw a thread a few days back about some person buying large numbers of these, probably someone speculating that the price will go up.

However I can’t find a link to it and no telling how many pages back it is now on this forum.

Edit: here’s the thread I saw. mysterious BLTC chest flipper back!.

Try switching the language to French? I know that sounds weird but that fixed an old bug where the launcher stopped at one file. If it starts up, let it finish then switch back. (Languages are in the top right corner of the launcher where the flags are).
