Whilst the offensive language thing is a the top of the forum, why the hell can I not name my Ranger’s pet Jaguar ‘Bagpuss’? It’s my favourite children’s TV show from my childhood, yet I’m told it’s an offensive word for some reason.

The filter in game seeing the last 4 letters as it’s part of another word that ends with a y is my guess.

Block, report, don’t respond (as responding can draw you into a fight and get you in trouble also). The first suspension seems to be 72 hours, judging by the posts from people who were suspended for abusive language and who were outraged to be so cruelly mistreated. I’ve seen one thread by friends of a player whose account was terminated because of multiple incidents of abusive language. I gather that is rare. Each report gets a longer suspension. Most of those people eventually learn to control themselves.

Astral Projections.7320

People like you who want dueling need to suggest a way for it to be ingame that counters at least some of the other people’s objections to it.

Afraid that Im going to have to disagree.

A customer making a request of a service provider doesnt need to suggest how the service provider can make other customers happy in my opinion.

True, s/he doesn’t need to. But if the company isn’t going to put in the feature because other of their customers don’t want it and they haven’t thought of a way to get around those complaints (possibly because it’s low priority and they don’t want to spend time on it) then someone who can do so and get others to agree has more likelihood of getting what they want.

Or they can just ask for it without trying to fix the problems and not get what they want, whichever floats their boat.

Dreamthistle Skins - Price to sell

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

Sorry but as a buyer interested in a dreamthistle skin i will burst your bubble. You overpriced your skin hard. As most of sellers did. Now they’re just waiting for their gold. And they’ll wait all right. A looooong time. Here’s the deal:

What you’re selling there is a one handed weapon skin. That means that there’s an issue of a matching offhand weapon. Who wants to spend a fortune on a weapon skin when you know it’ll still look bad, because you are not willing to pay another near 1k gold for an offhand that matches it, rather then ruining the whole impression.

There’s also the issue of uncertainity about their return to tp. All a-net guarateed is that they will not appear back before 31.12.2014. Which is behind us now, so it’s wild west now – no guarantees these ridicilously priced skins are our true last shot at getting one.

The purchase offers you see there are the realistic value of an item. Anything is worth only as much as people are willing to pay for it. And that there are their prices. 400 gold which is offered on some items doesn’t just grow on trees. For some people it’s some serious hard work and dedication to get it and i can see why they refuse to go over that, especially for a weapon that needs matching offhand to have real purpose in the first place. And notice that with those prices the sellers are happily troddling into precursor price territory. And if someone wants a 1h dreamthistle + offhand? well in some cases that might be over the pre of precursor and close to some less popular legendaries. That is a barrier of reason few if any at all are willing to cross with their gold, but time will tell.

Ps. Yes i am bidding on dreamthistle weapon, but not the dagger. Nor a staff (regarding another topic where i expressed my dissatisfaction with prices on those).

Maybe so. But if you look at the graph, either people are placing then pulling the daggers or they are selling at or close to OP’s price.

https://www.gw2tp.com/item/48961-dreamthistle-dagger-skin

For example, I see 2 for 990.02 on 12/9 then zero on 12/25. So those either sold or were pulled. My guess is sold.

Not sure how you know these players are inactive. The minute we start saying one person’s opinion is genuine and the other person’s opinion is trolling is where we get into trouble. We just have to deal with it.

Always write your opinion, positive or negative, with a smile on your face and a smile in your heart.

If they say they stopped playing a long time ago, are always negative and said in one post they only come here to engage in forum PvP then imo they are more trolling than not.

dueling

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

Make it a gem store item they have to buy, 1000 gems. If you don’t have it, you can’t duel. You have to have it in inventory and active to send or receive duel requests. Having it active gives you a visible dueling flag.

Have the item have a preset of some sort that sends the duel request to a person. If you ask someone to duel who doesn’t have the item active also, they won’t get the request.

Hahahahahaha, o they BETTER NOT do that hahahaha o noooo, that would be it for me.

The thing is, there is a sizable number of people who are strongly against dueling and they’ve made their feelings known in multiple threads over the last 2 years. If ANet does ever bring in dueling then they need to keep these people’s objections in mind, which means it’s unlikely that dueling will ever be ingame in an easy to access manner. Imo, it’s going to be either PvP only, some sort of arena that the duelers will need to travel to or possibly a gem store item that limits dueling requests to only those who have that item.

People like you who want dueling need to suggest a way for it to be ingame that counters at least some of the other people’s objections to it.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

Astral Projections.7320

Out of curiosity, and since the PVP dailies reward extra track completion, I went and tried out PVP for the first time yesterday, to see if I could get at least a couple of the dailies done so I could avoid having to farm what appears to be lengthy or annoying dungeons (Arah, specifically).

Took me four rounds to get all dailies done, the first was on my Ranger and I didn’t realize that PvP strangely ignores your traits setup that you had when coming in and plunks it into what it thinks should be good, so I had random traits that I didn’t know what were doing what and didn’t work with my playstyle. I don’t recall if we won or not, because I was too busy looking at what it handed me.

Lesson learned, I switched to my guardian, lost the first match, won the second. Didn’t die once, actually, in the second round, but got plenty of kills (deathmatch mode).

Last round was on my engineer, where I had plenty of fun launching people off of Skyhammer with my rifle. And won it.

First day: 20% reward track completion, from 0.

Today, I started with my warrior, won round 1.

Went 3 rounds with my thief, one was close, one was us getting beaten badly (didn’t help that a ranger was kicking back in our spawn the whole match), then went into deathmatch and… well, the score was 500 to 0.

Second day: 38% completion.

Pretty much going to use this to get some of those armour skins I can’t get because I don’t want to do the dungeons repeatedly. Thanks, new dailies, for introducing me to a faster, easier way to get those dungeon skins!

Step into Hearts of the Mists and you can change your build. You’ll see the icon in the center at the top of the screen once there. Your PvP build is entirely separate from the build in the hero menu.

Yeah, I figured that bit out after the first match. I had just assumed the first time that it’d have taken the same build I had outside and not set up its own build with points in trait lines that I had zero in before.

Yah. It may be obvious to some people that your traits will be reassigned without warning to some other set, but not to all people. It’s not even obvious to a noob where PvP armor is. I looked at my char. He had all his own armor and weapons. It took me a bit to see the icons at the top of the UI and figure out the PvP armor wasn’t on me or my Hero panel (where I was expecting it to be) but on a separate panel not attached to my char.

New armorsets from dungeons, when?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astral Projections.7320

The Ambrite and Carapace sets say hi.

Granted, they are locked behind a fair bit of grind, but you can’t buy them with gold, so it’s not locked behind the gemstore.

The OP asked for armor rewarded for dungeon completion. From which dungeons do I get the ones you mentioned?

:p

It was possibly a response to this statement by the OP.

“I don’t think I’ve seen a single new weapon/armorset from doing PvE that isn’t some 0.00093871%-Please-Buy-Gems-To-Afford-It rare item. All of the new looks have been on the gemstore, and some of those armors and weapons even recycles pieces/textures from old armors lol.”

Where Zaxares was pointing out that there are weapons and armor that are not bought with gold or from the gemstore.

(Also the new pinnacle weapons from achievement chests)

Also, sovereign, radiant/hellfire skins, and zenith weapons.

There is also Glorious, Sunless, ascended, wurmslayer armor, Annelid Rifle Skin, King Toad, Storm Wizard. Some of which can be bought with gold but none are gemstore.
In addition there are some stand alone items, like Scarlet’s kiss, her helm, the helms that are dropping in Dry top with the goggles.

So these are some that are non gemstore skins:
sovereign, radiant/hellfire skins, zenith weapons, pinnacle, amberite, carapace, glorious, sunless, ascended, wurmslayer armor, Annelid Rifle Skin, King Toad, Storm Wizard (not listing other single pieces)

And a multitude of backpieces such as the wings, the Spinal set, the new crafted ones, etc…

With the forum (dis)organization, I can’t find that post now. I can try to dig and see if I commented in that thread and can recognize it but that will take a while.

Edit: to the best of my memory is was a comment that some ANet staffers hesitated to (or would hesitate to) post in a thread if there was a lot of hostility in it.

You might not be doing enough damage. If that’s it, change your traits to power/precision/ferocity. Take the highest level char you have. Party up with as many others you can (the amount of damage they do count towards yours so each party member can do less and have it still count).

How about an item that merges 2 pieces of gear together with different stats (2 chest pieces, 2 greatswords or 2 amulets for example). That new merged item can then have the stats switched between those 2 sets. Merge again with another piece and you can switch between 3 stats, and so on. Eventually you could have a set of armor/weapons/trinkets with fully switchable stats.

This would encourage the crafting of multiple sets of gear for each set.

If there are parts of this that is set in stone before it is even implemented because lawyers, then that severely narrows the range of what we can suggest, even if it’s something that seems to be a particular problem in spite of being specifically clarified.

Well, moving on, as Trahearne would say (and hopefully not the next part where he says, “this won’t end well,”) we know we can suggest that they not have an tag that others can see, I’m not sure what else we can suggest. Hopefully someone else can think of something. :/

I think some people are confusing “expressing an opinion” with “making a decision.” We, the players, have no part in the decision-making process. The decisions have already been made and the plans are in motion. That doesn’t stop Anet from asking “what do you think of this?” and collecting feedback to be discussed later.

But no, the plans that have already been made are not going to be changed because a handful of players don’t like them.

/shrug. It would have been nice before the start of the discussion to know the boundaries of it. I wouldn’t have bothered to suggest changes to the unchangeable. Since we can’t deflect future possible problems stemming from the language in the announcement then ANet might as well see if any occur and go from there.

Perhaps Gaile can suggest other areas that are open to change that she would like discussed.

Adding the addendum about them not being moderators won’t stop people from believing that they don’t have some sort of cozy relationship with the moderators.

Imo this belief is linked to 2 things.
1) The name itself: Forum Specialist
2) the part in the statement about them flagging posts.

The name sounds too important for what they do. Obviously they need some sort of name, for internal use if nothing else. I suggest the name be changed to something else more informal sounding, something dull and innocuous. Information Gatherer perhaps for the internal ANet name for the group, and that they are either not identified to the rest of us or they have pdavis’ suggestion of an individual tag like WvW Specialist or Lore Specialist.

Again I suggest you take out the part where they can flag posts. You can say till you’re blue in the face that it doesn’t mean they have moderator powers or have a cozy relationship withs mods. Once people read that statement, some will jump to conclusions and refuse to believe anything else. They are going to think, why does it say they can do it if it’s not something special to their position. I believe that leaving that statement in will cause endless rounds of accusations about Forum Specialist reporting them to mods. And the problem is, there will be no way to prove them wrong if that’s what they believe. Linking the addendum will be useless.

He was saying add those to the home instances.

No, I don’t think they will add those to the home instance since they already sell the passes to the Royal Terrace and the Captain’s Airship. Adding that would reduce the passes value and the money ANet gets for their sale. In addition it would encourage people to isolate themselves in their home instances which would be bad for the game overall.

The security loophole is people who buy gold with real money, which allows the gold sellers to buy more accounts to use to sell more gold.

If they buy a bunch of accounts when the game is on sale then it probably doesn’t take much for them to break even, especially when you factor in free use of hacked accounts.

Start fresh on a diff Server?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Astral Projections.7320

Astral Projections.7320

No, don’t move to a different server. The game has Megaservers now so servers are only important for WvW. Guesting won’t make a difference either for the same reason. The game now condenses all PvE maps down to a few. All servers go into the same set of maps and the map shards open and close as the populations increases and decreases.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/introducing-the-megaserver-system/

That’s what I thought but people were telling me that guilds prefer you to be on their server. Thought it was strange. Thanks for the info

WvW only guilds do. PvE/PvP mixed guilds don’t. If WvW is important to you then chose a server and guild based on it. If it’s not important, then don’t worry about it.

You can be in up to 5 guilds at a time (you can only represent one at a time). You can chose a guild on your server for WvW and a guild on any server for PvE. Just be aware that if your PvE guild on another server decides to do WvW, you won’t be able to join them.

It use to be a lot more important to be on the same server as your guild as the PvE influence was tied to the server. Now that it’s no longer tied to the server but is cross server, the reason to get on your server’s guilds has been greatly reduced and is WvW bound reasons only. Some people may be unaware of the changes made to how guilds get influence from their members, which is why they are saying that servers are important to PvE guild choice.

sniped for brevity

Yes, that is part that concerns me, but I have to state my position as being very concerned about the whole process of the FS bringing things to the attention of Anet when it comes to suggestions, etc.
There are hundreds if not thousands of ideas that flow through this forum on how the game can be made better, and the sheer volume does show a need for condensing it, but I do not believe that having potentially biased non-employees doing the collating is the proper path.
Let’s take a non-issue example (something that has already been done): If there was a small group in the community that felt the game could be improved by removing the fees associated with armor repair, they would never have their voice heard if the reigning Forum Specialists had the whole “suck it up” attitude. They have no motivation what ever to say “hey Anet, while I categorically disagree with these people, I think they have a valid suggestion.”

*_edit: a side note. This whole Forum Specialist thing seems more like Arenanet is trying to avoid hiring more employees._

There are supposed to be 25 at a time. There is no reason to believe that the 25 people will all hold the same opinions about any subject nor are they barred from collecting and sending off ideas outside their specialty.

As to the part about disagreeing and not sending off information they think is valid, 2 things.
1) the agreement they sign “I understand that this is a unique opportunity to play an important role in the advancement of Guild Wars 2, and it is my responsibility to act with integrity and to the benefit of the player community as a whole.”
2) ANet will still be reading the forums. If they catch them not passing on valid information, how long do you think they will keep their position? " I understand that being a part of the program is a privilege that can be revoked at any time for any reason."

Really, I think that this needs to be modified.

“The purpose of this program is to invite highly engaged community members to serve as volunteer “Forum Specialists” within their area of expertise. As specialists, these volunteers will answer questions in a player-to-player (unofficial) sense, and coalesce and transmit player feedback to the ArenaNet Forum Communications Team.”

Leaving out the flag posts in breach of the Forum Code of Conduct, as it’s this part that’s getting people riled up. Since everyone can flag posts, then emphasizing it as something they can do implies they have special powers there or that their flags will be given special attention. I don’t think there would have been near the amount of controversy if that statement wasn’t there implying that they have moderating powers.

"Teleport to a friend" BL Consumable question

It says it’s a consumable. It has only one use. Which means if you use it, it gets destroyed no matter where you are.

A consumable is an item that is removed upon use and triggers an event, hence being consumed.

As Einstein said, everything is relative.

Karma boosters aren’t much good if you have millions of karma and no use for it. It’s great if you are new or if you are spending karma on something.

Gathering boosters- If you don’t farm, then this is of no use to you. I used them while making circuits of maps gathering everything I could, for my crafting or to sell. The speed boost is useful to help cover the map faster and the bonus gather adds up.

Magic find: great if you play the game and kill stuff. Not so great if all you do is TP trading.

Is it not a little to late to start?

The game combines the people playing on different servers onto a handful of maps. This means you’ll always be running into people no matter where you go. Some events, the meta bosses, have waaaaaayyy too many people.

What about a reversing tool for ascended?

I would prefer a merging tool myself where if you combine two of the same type of gear with different stats, you get one piece where you can select between those merged stats at will. Merge two of those together and you get 4 sets of stats you can select at will.

That way you won’t lose all the effort you put into making a piece of ascended gear and it makes crafting more useful.

So what’s a forum specialist?

Essentially someone who has demonstrated above average knowledge of part of the game (PvP, a particular profession, WvW, dungeons, etc) and is willing to actively look for and gather good ideas in their area of interest and forward them to ANet.

WoW's failure is GW2 gain

One point that needs to be considered, is that the WoW players frequently complain that garrisons are isolating. People complain that they sit alone in the garrison waiting for their version of LFG to queue. Part of the problem here seems to be lack of a major city to congregate in. However the garrisons are needed for the crafting professions and the lack of new “outside the garrison content” works together to keep people sitting in a building rather than out there doing stuff. This means that the land is empty of all these people.

If Guild Wars 2 ever puts in player housing, it needs to be set up so that people don’t spend large amounts of time alone in a building. Even if people are enjoying being in there, it would be isolating and that would be bad for the game. Some way would need to be found to make them a social experience.
