I’m worried that this would greatly devalue mats as laurels can be exchanged for crafting mats. I’d be more supportive if it was every 5th rank or every even rank after a threshold (like rank 10/20/30). That said the general concept of laurels for ranking up in WvW i think is fine, just the frequency of receiving of them i think needs to be addressed.

Daethonfoot, no game prospers when part of its player base is actively defaming and ostricizing the others.
The reason wvw needs more love is that pve gets a lot of cool stuff, and if wvw got more cool stuff more people who only pve now may find out they like wvw. More WvW as with most pvp formats generally means a stronger game. People may like pve but it has been my experience that pvp and the community it breeds among team-mates is THE best way to develop a love for a game. Anet should want every aspect of their game to be engaging and until wvw gets some serious attention and love that just won’t be the case. There is a beautiful and awe-inspiring pve world out there but Anet has a chance to make a WvW experience that people will talk about as long as people have talked about Daoc and i don’t want them to squander that chance.

Answer this.. What am I supposed to do with all the badges I have right now? I have 8 laurels, some ascended items, stacks of superior rams, arrow arts etc.. I am sitting on over 4000 badges rotting in my bank that I was hoping to finally spend. What do I use them for Devon?
You claim you don’t want to blow up the economy yet you neglect the WvW community for months and release a lame patch that does nothing new for us. At least let us trade badges for laurels and for kittens sake please give us a non fractal way to get an ascended back piece. Listen to the community. We have been screaming for months. The only reason you don’t see a mass exodus is because the next great game isn’t here yet.
Badges should be tradeable for skill points and runes/sigils imo. Also! Give siege to your server mates, there is always someone in need of siege. I’ve used badges to buy siege for commanders from time to time.

I have three level 80’s and 7 sets of gear. It will take me over 12 months to get the 490 laurels I need. Is that how you intended the system to work? Should I go play another MMO while I grind out my dailies?
What’s cool is i have 1 lv 80 with 2 sets of gear and i have access to other aspects of the game and it takes me significantly less time to gear. Its really convenient how when you don’t play the game in a ton of different ways you don’t have to progress in each of those paths eh?
All of that snarkiness aside, the time it takes to grind out all that gear for your toons should be less in my opinion. I figured costs would be like 500 badges and 15 laurels for amulets and rings and 750-1k badges and like 20 laurels for accessories. But i do think if you try to play a million different ways you should expect to take a while to have each of those ways geared to the highest degree.

All I see is a cowardly Tc and FA double teaming us since day one ! Neither of these servers has a lick of honor . As I type this , TC has there 75 + man zerg hitting one side of our keep ,and FA has there 75 + man zerg hitting other side ! Not bothering to attack one another . We have 35 people maybe holding atm and you STILL cant take it . If you had even a lick of digninty ,you might have the skill to get it from us . I guess, “coalition” was a bad word to use. I don’t mean you guys are literally sitting in TS3 together working together, I mean you could be, but I highly doubt it.
What I mean is all week FA and TC have been pushing DBL and EB leaving us to do nothing but defend, poorly. TC barely enters FABL and FA barely enters TCBL. And if they do, the most either take is a couple camps and maybe a tower.
While DBL is getting hit from FA on the east and TC on the west and EB is getting the same treatment.
Add all that to the fact that some of our key guilds/commanders not rolling out in full numbers, which is very evident and the fact that the forum warriors on here from DB painted a pretty large bulls-eye on DB’s back.
Oh, and lets not forget that for some reason DB pugs can’t be bothered to get into the community TS3 and get some kitten coordination running. I mean if TC and FA have the time to get in our TS3 and listen to where we’re going I can’t see why our own server can’t.
I assure you when i ran in FA bl i did more than take a few camps…

As I stated in another post we were looking for various things in a server and found what we wanted/needed on FA, so we farmed our own gold and moved over 30+ players over to FA and have enjoyed each day here thus far.

We (EP) saw several TVB players out in FABL last night. Thinking of which, we had a ton of fun staging those north-camp fights. Some of those went on for a good 20 minutes. Our little group held you all off in Garrison for quite a while as well. Really fun fights! Looking forward to more!
In other news, DB seems to have opened a can of WA-40 the past two nights. Dat SEA coverage! I think the news of DB’s death was greatly exagerrated.

I must be missing something here. DB was going to move up to T2 without transfers. DB would have been stuck in that irritable tier 2.5 mess due to their lack of coverage. DB got more guilds to stay in T2. That’s what the situation is right? That’s how i understand it. DB worked their way up here but i cannot say that they wouldn’t have put up a good enough fight to stay in T2 because i didn’t get the opportunity to see that DB. Instead i get to see this version of DB and i can only assume from what posters from DB have said that without the guilds that transferred to DB they were not ready for T2. What’s the problem?
Were you not around during TC/DB/Mag back in early March? Judging by your post history, you were. That is the same DB that was moving up to T2. That is the same DB I mentioned in my previous post. That is the same DB you just said you did not get the opportunity to see, which you clearly did.
What’s the problem? The problem is almost all of your posts towards Dragonbrand have been in regards to “wagonbrand” as you have so fondly dubbed us and getting on us about our recent transfers despite not “being ready for T2.”
Perhaps you should be recruiting players if you find the populations imbalanced.
You said that in the TC/DB/MG thread way back in March, and that is exactly what we did in order to be competitive in this tier because we knew from TC/FA’s multiple visits to T3 that we were too small for T2.

T3 is so dead. Even having lost thousands of WvW’ers and with only 1 major remaining WvW guild we are managing to stay in T3. This makes it clear that the gap between T2 and T3 is now so huge that there is not way a T3 server could make it in T2 without a huge bandwagon.
So maybe remember that when thinking about DB. If it was just the old guard, they probably would have been stomped back down in T3 in one week (since the reason they made it up was Kain’s collapse).

Of course you knew, you’re just being a kitten about it. You already fought the version of Dragonbrand that was supposed to move up to T2. Did Dragonbrand ever stop fighting even when TC/FA visited T3? Nope, we were out there fighting back the hordes of TC/FA who were clearly waaaay to big for T3.
That same Dragonbrand – without the transfers – was poised to move up to T2 against BOTH of the servers that destroyed T3. You know exactly what was going to happen – Dragonbrand would fight our hardest and work with what we had – but eventually get destroyed and swap places with either Mag or Kain week after week because of the huge population disparity between the T2 and T3 servers.
It’s not hard to deduce what was going to happen when TC/FA has already seen what Dragonbrand was all bout before the transfers. We were clearly too small for T2 when ONE T2 server came down to T3.

No, what that passage says is that DB is being ripped for increasing their population, and TC isn’t despite being full. DB is not (at least not that I’ve seen) but we’re the ones getting pooped on for some reason.

It is a false comparison, TC is the rp server we have a consistent and booming pve population- one that is certainly contributing to our full status. There is a difference between having a full server and actively recruiting guilds to bandwagon up through a tier.
Every server has PvE populations, I don’t really understand what you’re getting at by pointing that out. There’s still only 3 full servers in NA, and 2 of them are in Tier 1.
Also, again, TC has recruited guilds in the past. Recruiting guilds is part of the metagame and it’s valid whether you personally care for it or not. No one in T1 or T2 really has moral high ground on that issue, except possibly JQ.
I’m not claiming higher ground. We took a lot of flak and nastiness for trying to recruit in our weak timezones; expect the same.

1) TC has often been FULL for the past 8 months – our Population Status rarely has anything to do with our WvW turn-out. Posting about it like it does just makes you look silly.
2) Most everybody I’ve talked to on TC has great respect for the original Dragonbrand Guilds and Players. The reason you are “feeling the heat” is because of how Rawnoodles has been going about his “campaign” to turn DB into his own personal T1 fiefdom. It took less than a week for him to post on these forums that he was an “Official Representative” of DB and he and [RE] at the very least are self-admittedly out there looking to “buy” Guilds.
Maybe [CO] wasn’t any part of that (most likely I’d guess) but you are getting lumped in with the dross just based on the timing of your switch and your attempts to defend something that is in fact happening.

I think that DB is purposefully lowering their rating because they think they can eat up some easy points on two “fattened pigs” later on when they get whatever guilds they are currently farming for.

I’m not “hiding” anything, I’m just pointing out that it’s not like DB just has some giant war chest and we’re bribing all these guilds. What’s happening is people are choosing to come here and some of the WvW guilds already here are helping them out with their transfer fees. TC got plenty of transfers, just not as recently as we did.
Also, maybe worth noting couple months ago myself, other officers in my guild, and my guild leader, were all very subtly and privately approached by various representatives of different TC guilds all trying to butter us up and get us to transfer off DB and into TC.
And if my tiny little can-barely-put-more-than-10-people-in-wvw-on-any-night-but-reset guild was getting attention from TC, I would wager we were far from the only ones.
So let’s not pretend TC doesn’t recruit, just like every other server.

He still has a point. DB is getting all kinds of crap for recruiting guilds so they can compete in T2. It doesn’t really matter to me what people respect or not, you can’t compete if you don’t have the population.
I didn’t bring up TC being full to deride them, I’m just pointing out that no one has… well, pointed it out. DB is getting pooped on because people are transferring there and I don’t really think that’s fair, and I highly doubt that TC has never ever ever gotten any transfers. I just think it’s silly to look down on another server for that reason. If people want to play on @@server@@, they have every right. They paid their $60 and their transfer fee just like the rest of us. You don’t have to like it, but to come on the forums and make a big deal out of it is just childish.

I think that DB is purposefully lowering their rating because they think they can eat up some easy points on two “fattened pigs” later on when they get whatever guilds they are currently farming for.

It doesn’t really matter what they do. Nobody is really going to respect any victory won by bank rolling a bunch of huge guilds over.

its not that db is burt out most of certain wvw guilds have been farming gold to assist other guilds (coming soon) in getting to db

EDIT: for the record, I’m not trying to hassle TC for this, I’m just pointing out what appears to be a double standard. TC swears up and down that they’re not getting transfers, but to me it doesn’t matter. People are going to play where they want to play and y’all need to stop crying about it.
There is a difference between people choosing a server to start playing on, or transferring as a few individuals and guilds moving between servers. Though i can understand why wagonbrand would want to try and muddle the distinction.

Tell that to the 9 or 10 of us that held off the 30 man zerg that golem rushed through TCBL Hills yesterday. We wiped them in the lords room with no siege.

Back during the whole “Isle of Jaspenwood” thing, we had a lot more courtesy regarding your transfers than you’re having about ours.
Every post coming out of FA is just “Dragonwagon this” or “Brandwagon that”,
Show some class and get over it.
I’ve decided that Asudementio wanted an easy stomp (like he had when FA was in T3 – even after their IoJ transfers) . He (notice i said he, and not the whole FA) didn’t get the easy win and is bitter about it.
I’ve never seen anyone complain so much about an abundance of targets on the field and a decently competitive tier.
I don’t want an easy stomp but don’t let me persuade you otherwise. What i want is a competitive tier with well-mannered opponents, but i gave up on that long ago when i first saw how DB decided to portray themselves. No one i playwith enjoys easy fights, but we enjoy condescending kitteny opponents even less.
With our new transfers, we have made it a competitive tier. Had we not had the boost to our NA, which we were always desperately in need of – we would’ve been slaughtered in T2 and you would have little resistance (from DB) during NA prime.
Also, check the history – which tags brought you to the conclusion that Dragonbrand was condescending and not well-mannered? Perhaps you should start focusing your jabs towards certain guilds/persons and not Dragonbrand as a whole. but of course – it’s easier to generalize.
I couldn’t disagree more. I find generalizing harder because there is so much more inconsistency in the posts i reply to.
