An idea for legendary weapons

An idea i’ve been kicking around of masteries. The gist of it that by meeting a set of experiential criteria you unlock alternate skill sets for weapons. I think such a skill set associated with a legendary would be great, but only if there are alternative ways to acquire the additional sets of weapon skills.

I find this “If you want to raid go to WoW” response sickening. Raiding is a cool feature the question is how to implement it in GW2. Personally i think more Dynamic events that feature chains of bosses in a heavily stylized location with strategies required for the successful dispatching of the bosses sounds great. The elements in such a DE are very similar to that of a raid and rewards could be similar in that after the chain a vendor opens up for a short period of time with rewards that have custom skins bought with tokens awarded throughout chests in the DE chain.

Auction houses are not conducive to a well balanced economy, since they only have sell orders. The trading post, as implemented with buy and sell orders, keeps prices realistic and prevents price gouging.

It certainly does not prevent price gouging ( see precursor weapons).

If you cannot coordinate to complete a goal or objective in WvW you do not complete it- that is how server based pvp works. There needs to be solo based objectives in WvW i agree- whether or not this should be one i cannot decide as i think the team based aspect of it at the moment is quite good.

If you’re trading with someone you trust, CoD is unneeded. If you’re trading with someone you don’t trust, CoD will just create a second market and /mapchat spam and additional avenues for scams. Not worth it for the toxic trade atmosphere it can produce.

edit: the only time I would suggest enabling CoD mail would be if the TP is down for an extended period, but it’s definitely not needed.

This second market isn’t separate from the world market though- most of the cash in the game still would filter through the world market. The CoD system would only remove dependency on the TP and its trends. I guess any in game economy that isn’t auction house dependent is toxic….. right? And no it isn’t needed, but i think it is at least a decent feature.

By that logic then exploration should be removed from the legendary because i dislike exploring. There should be a separate set of legendaries for exploration.

I agree with the monthly commend, but i think that the legendary should be obtained from experiencing multiple aspects of the game. I believe pvp should remain one of those aspects.

I think Skritt fit Primordus because the destroyers have pushed the skritt from their homes- or at least they did in my story.

And i wasn’t trying to say that an elder dragon should equal an expansion, i just listed the race releases i think fit each dragon.

Actually i have been gettiing consistently trolled by Crystal Desert so no, i am not a troll defending my abusive play styles.

As for your suggestions i like 2 and 4 and think they are reasonable. 1 and 3 remove too much risk in my opinion. And the gift of battle is supposed to be a mark of achievement in the WvW zones. They shouldn’t introduce a method of acquiring it that is devoid of pvp. If they want to change the recipe of legendary weapons fine, but the badges should not be acquirable without having to risk pvp encounters.

I dislike this idea. It is arbitrary in the bad way and would lead to further fragmentation and less inventory space. Also it could serve as a means to aggravate the market. Passable but unnecessary feature.

That’s part of the point of the puzzle.

You get WvW rewards for going through a gauntlet in a pvp zone. Do what some others do and take the fight to them in the puzzle- it is doable.

A CoD system will cut down of fraud in the 1 to 1 player trading period- the claim that other types of fraud and scamming would be introduced is fair, but misleading. The kind of scams that would crop up are not likely to be as great as those possible in the current system and even then that is a product of trust.

And the world market is not the end all be all of trading- particularly when some people would be willing to pay more on the spot than go through bidding wars on the TP.

And the claim it takes wealth out of the world market is laughable as each and every player is immersed in the world market, so the transference of wealth between players isn’t removing it from the market. Based on your claim gold transference as a gift to another player is also just taking money out of the world market.

I will concede it isn’t a make a break feature for the game in terms of the value it affords, but by such cold logic we should go ahead and stop work on tons of the details and trivial features in game and to be added to the game.

Chat filtering, player blocking, and chat suppression will keep spam down even with the CoD system.

- Really wish there was a name change item in the Gem store, just like Guild Wars 1. I’ve thought of thousands of better names for my toons, but I end up not wanting to play a character anymore and either rerolling or just not playing the toon because I don’t like the name anymore.
- While I understand that we’re getting custom arenas for practicing in SPvP, I wish we could have the standard duels in game. It’s going to be sort of a hassle to see someone in game, and you both decide to duel, so you gotta load into the mists, then rent an area, then both get in and fight. Something is better than nothing I guess.
- I get ANet didn’t want to have first person camera view for some reason, but these camera angles sometimes are horrid, especially on an Asura. Aiming up at a Defender in wvw just means im going to be zoomed into the inside of my head, really annoying. In jump puzzles, sometimes the environment itself gets in my camera view and I can’t see.
-During the betas and even before they started, I could have sworn I heard ANet say they were making dyes account bound. What happened to that?

It was decided later on to make dyes character bound- they now function as a gold and gem sink. I personally despise the decision but it is tolerable.

commander title

I personally think the commander title should be tied to a customizable back slot item that appears as a cape- it would require a gift of battle, one of the purchasable guild backpacks, and 2 WvWvW drops- one for seizing Stonemist and the other sent to you via mail when you have defended/assaulted x number of towers.

Upon creating the cape you get an achievement that unlocks the title.

This would keep it accessible while forcing you to go through a decent amount of WvWvW in order to make it.

I particularly liked the group aspect of the clock tower, as frustrating as it was to run it in a group, because it made the puzzle also feel like a race.

Personally i think all of the above choices should be tied to a dragon or expansion.

The Kodan should join up when we fight Jormag.
The Largos should join up when we fight Bubbles.
The skritt should join up when we fight Primordus.
The Tengu idk, but surely there is a dragon that a stake in the fight against.

Pretty simple suggestion- add a cash on delivery option to the mail composition tool. CoD makes it so that in order to accept a piece of mail you have to pay a certain amount of gold to the sender of the mail. If you are unwilling to pay the gold you reject the delivery and the mail is sent back to author. The implementation of this system would be a step towards implementing a traditional trade system that is sought by many players- a system that wouldn’t require rollbacks and would cut down on trade fraud.

Before I get reverse psychology smart-butt replies as to why “some” of the population had fun with the jumping puzzle and found it to be an aspiring achievement; I am going to direct at staff my two cents.

First, the green acid is way too fast. So either create a small patch nerf where it slows down the dungeon rate so that more casual people can achieve this jumping puzzle, or remove the timer. Either/or something must be done here because a lot of failures = a lot of failures.

Second, this puzzle is not fun. I’ve been playing for more than 9 hours straight, and with my graphics settings on low, I just do not have the patience to continue to fail and fail and fail again. There is no practice setting in this event, because of the first issue I mentioned above. Now most of you are going to feel defensive and yell out, “WELL I DID IT SO SHOVE IT” and that isn’t quite fair to others. Are you saying that because 1-3 players out of their 10-15 group made it to the top, picked up their slippers/rewards and bragged it and then returned only to farm more items, have the right to force the “fun” from everyone else and limit entry to others making it an elitist farming puzzle? If you were going to do that, then why didn’t you make it a gem-only event?

Till this hour, people in game are screaming their minds off not completing the event after trying again and again and again and again and so on. So tell me, does staff still think it’s an individual issue?

I read somewhere in the forums that the puzzle was taken off as an achievement, but see here, I spent MORE THAN NINE HOURS, and I’m not the only one, and I haven’t received my slippers, so why should I quit trying to do an event that was DESIGNED to be fun for the public? Are you all trying to change the meaning of fun and shoot an arrow to the knee to everyone regardless of their build because, oh yes, your settings were better designed to handle the puzzle?

My character is a lvl 80 Engineer Asuran. I have a rough time making 180 degree turns after the pink clogs while a bunch of norn, human, and charr characters (especially tall created ones) are in the same instance. It’s even more challenging having the acid rapidly catch up to you, and then of course, lovely orrian hands trying to pull you within the gears.

Quite honestly, I’m disappointed in this event. I was looking forward to achieving this jumping puzzle the first couple of hours, but after wanting to destroy my keyboard and monitor after frustrated fail after fail, makes me rethink if I should continue playing or just stop playing and switch to a better title that encourages “fun” to ALL players and not just a small elite few.

I’ve studied the youtube walkthrough. I know the route, I am not dumb here. I paid 165.00 USD for the collectors edition. I’m a veteran through and through, and beat most of this game. I don’t agree with whoever designed the puzzle to make it the hardest fragment of the entire game (even harder than Zhaitan). I think it was a mistake to ignore the casual and disabled population (including age reaction times), and honestly, it is a shame to all developers for not foreseeing that this puzzle would pose a problem to race and height of such race. (Asura vs Norn/Human/Charr).

What we should totally do is adjust the game so it fits your definition of fun, but a catch. You will need to fund the purchasing of the next game for all the people you disenfranchise with your changes.

Then the simple, blunt answer is that you just won’t be able to complete it. All content does not come with a pre requisite that it must be able to be done by anyone no matter what. As others have noted in this thread, it’s very doable. Nerfing it would make it trivial. This is a learning process, but if after 5 hours you aren’t nearly completing it, or progressing, then it just isn’t for you.

This is a really really really bad attitude to take. Sorry, but, uh, yeah, everything should be able to be completed by 100% of the playerbase. If you cater to a small crowd of blowhards who insist everything must be difficult and can only be achieved through hours of grinding, a huge majority of players become disillusioned with the game.

If they don’t find the game fun, they stop playing. When they stop playing, they aren’t supporting the game through expansion purchases or gem store goods. And what should be more relaxed and fun than a simple holiday event?

I mean, I haven’t tried Reaper Rumble yet (couldn’t get into it for some reason), but Lunatic Inquisition is pretty much one of the most fun things I’ve done in this game.

Your view point is the bad one. Its your type of view that has caused games to become as easy as they are today compared to how they used to be. And unfortunatly its been that way for so long now that anyone who got into gaming in the past 13 or so years now thinks these easy games (which they consider normal) are how thigns should be.. and that anything remotly harder. .is wrong. There must be somthing in the distance ot strive for difficulty wise. .otherwise its all just trivial and jus t thereo t waste time..whch as it stands. .most games are like.
This 1 JP puts back in somthing to strive for ..somthing to get mad about and annoy you ..till finaly ..you manage to reach it and the heavens sing as you feel great that you’ve achieved somthing that for you was incredibly hard. Do you really not want to feel that fealing ? ..if you dont wanna feel it ..you have no clue what yor missing and i feel sorry for u.

It’s not a feeling of “yes I did it!” for a lot of people. It’s a feeling of “ugh that’s finally over.” This is not how you want a lot of people to feel.

Nobody is complaining because the jumping puzzle is hard, they are complaining because it isn’t fun. Personally, I know that the majority of the time that I fail this clocktower, it’s because I mistimed a jump. But there’s also been cases where I botched a jump because six other players are on a 10-pixel-wide platform, and I misjudged where the edge was. I’ve also gotten hung up on doodads because I play a bulkier char.

When I stop having fun, I just go off and do something else for a bit then come back. I’m not asking for this game to be Babby’s First MMO Lite, I’m just sticking up for the people who aren’t enjoying this and explaining their positions, so you can take your die-hard elitism and misdirected rage at “casuals” elsewhere. Nobody here is interested in hearing you lord your video game achievements over other people.

I am apparently oblivious to this surging tide of cries for the clocktower to be made fun.

Also just because someone doesn’t like the design of a feature doesn’t mean it was designed poorly or designed in such a way that it isn’t “fun” (as if everyone could agree on what is fun). I am not particularly fond of Rata Sum, but i don’t say it sucks and demand changes.

Well i am disappointed to say the least, i was hoping to have the means to get arachnophobia and the mad king’s set this Halloween by using the labyrinth chests. With this nerf neither will happen- Happy Halloween everyone.
