Legendary Armor?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

At least it would give some people something to do. It would also make people with Ascended armor angry, unless that was a type of “precursor”.

Ascended armor as a precursor could work well. Would allow people to keep any existing ascended (+maybe infusions, but less likely) while using the rest of the material farm as the challenge in obtaining the armor.

Would address some of the complaints about precursor availability regarding legendary weapons, and also open up a route to creation of a second set of legendary weapons further along the line from ascended weapons…

Watchwork mining pick – example response

This is actually a really interesting case, we understand the frustrations of those who may have bought another endless mining pick, however we wanted to experiment with an item that contained a small perk to measure the impact it had on sales.

As a result, going forward it is likely that other endless gathering tools may come with additional perks. However, as a means to ensure these items also still provide value to those with existing tools, we are looking into the possibility of developing a wardrobe type system for tool animations and bonuses, where once unlocked, the player is able to choose between which animation is used and which bonus perk is applied to the gathering tool.

We can’t give a definite timescale on this, as for now the idea exists and we are only investigating the feasibility of it from a programming perspective.

And you think that answer would make anyone happy ?

Some folks want them to remove that pick -> unhappy -> flaming

Other want to know if they get refund for their other tools if we ever get a wardorbe,
i for example have 13 picks, 7 sickles and 9 axes.

Or they want to know if it even make sense to buy any of the other tools because
they feel cheated when there is suddenly a “better” tool

And so on .. in the end that answer will help nobody and make nobody happy, and so
some will again flame against it.

I don’t expect my attempt to solve a problem to be anywhere near accurate to what might be happening behind the wall of silence.

I also am aware that whatever happens in many cases there will be some people who are angry and some who a happy with any given outcome.

In this case there are a few different issues, like you address, those who purchased multiple copies of tools is a major one, and one that was made more complicated by the decision to make the gathering tools account bound.

All i’m trying to suggest is that there must be some strategy behind the scenes for these decisions, and having a bit more understanding of it would make us not feel quite so much like changes are being made by picking options out of a hat.

I’ve been waiting for a thread like this to come up. I think this is a significant issue for ArenaNet, and should definitely be a part of their strategy going forward. Why?

Unless you are buying gems on the regular, you aren’t really a customer, you are a past customer. They’ve already got your money, and they delivered what you paid for, which is GW2 as it was exactly at that time, so what more do they owe you?

This is true, except All Forum users are potential customers – they all own the game, and are therefore the target market for any Gem Store items/upgrades. Coming up to the 2 year anniversary of release means GW2 is probably well into the tail end of its box sales (excluding China). So what should matter more to GW2 is establishing repeat business from those purchasing Gems. Customers buy products when they are happy with the service and see value in the goods. (You don’t shop at the same supermarket every week whilst continuing to talk to friends about how much you hate it)

Forum users are a small, vocal, and important subset of the player base. Why are they important? – Because they are vocal. Some will be keen to pass their views on to others – even when it may be an unpopular viewpoint, while others may be extremely knowledgeable about specific areas of the game and enjoy sharing that knowledge with others. They are the people who will also be the biggest vocal supporters of the game and most likely to share any official information on a subject.

I think the real problem is we have no real concept of where the game is going from here.

I think this is spot on, we currently have no real explanation of upcoming plans, which will foster uncertainty and disappointment. Just like if a company on wall street never announced any plans to its investors. Yes sometimes they might miss targets, but its still better to know what is being aimed for, even if it misses than to not know anything at all. Announcing plans, changes peoples mindset from uncertainty to hope. (Like the upcoming Ranger changes discussed in Ready Up! )

If Anet came in and said, look we understand certain people have problems with the megaserver, but new people coming in have a much higher stay in the game rate since it’s been implement (which I believe would naturally be the case) it’s an answer. They have those stats and we don’t.

Finally, I think this is important too, addressing the communities concerns like this would alleviate a lot of the negative feelings toward updates that people might disagree with. Having more sight on what the Devs intended and why the changes are valuable means we can make a more informed opinion.

I think any business that wants to keep customers happy has to accept that that also means at times making people unhappy. Only the Dev team can see the full impact of changes they make, and I know sometimes they won’t be at liberty to discuss the reasons. When they can though I think showing the intention and scope of their thinking will be beneficial for everyone.

As an example, this is a totally made up response about a hot potato issue on the forums:

Well, Rythlock’s ritual didnt work as intended. I say he based his research on faulty material. So practicly whatever he thinks he knows is either fabrication or mistaken.

That’s a good point, it could turn out that part of bringing him back or Rytlock coming back from the Mists reveals where he got his information from and the truth behind how to cleanse the Foefire.

Tricky to know, if Rytlock’s theories completely contradicted prior knowledge we’d (presumably) have been trying to convince him not to perform the ritual.

I’ve no idea if the changes to Iron Marches will be affected, but the Devs did expressly state that not all Open World content would be permanent. Some of it would come and go only to support the active story.

True, so presumably they would have to provide an instanced version of the map for players who replay the episode at a later date if the vines ever disappear from Iron Marches. Which actually would work quite well as it would be like the story dungeons that take place at a specific time.

I quite liked the open world events in this release, despite the zerg and that making it harder to play (my computer being poor), as i did feel like it gave the events a sense of urgency.

Rytlock: “It all hinges on Sohothin, my sword. There were originally two of them — Sohothin and another called Magdaer. They were given to the Ascalonians as protection against invasion.

“Magdaer is a legendary sword of Orrian origin, dating back to a time when the Gods of Tyria walked among the humans and lived in the City of Arah. At some point, Magdaer and its sister, Sohothin, were given as gifts to the Ascalonian royal line to ensure continued peace.

I agree with your points regarding the Crown. Though I thought Rytlock’s comments about Sohothin were a reasonable summary for players who might not know previously. I don’t think there’s a contradiction, ensuring peace vs defense against invasion is pretty similar.

I was surprised that there was no mention of Eir still having the fragments of Magdaer though.

Edit: Regarding the crown, the only explanation I can think of is if Ember Doomforge had returned to the vault and then deliberately tried to hide the crown for some reason.

Fair point, but then equally, why not have all armors and outfits available for Claim Tickets instead of Gems?

I’ll amend my original post, as I was thinking of new skins, not the existing ones.

The reason for my suggestion is not that its impossible to get the current skins that are available, but that this would add another route for people to get skins.

They could be account bound on acquire to prevent issues with unsettling the markets, and available for time limited periods like current gem store items. It doesn’t detract anything from the current system, but adds an alternate way of obtaining skins.

ANet essentially hamstrung their own sales because people see the “normal” unlimited tools as no longer worth buying when there’s the possibility something better will come along in the future.

This is exactly the position i’m in. I don’t want to buy a tool one week and find out the next that a better one is available for the same price.

I figure they have three options – make the price of the watchwork pick higher than the standard unlimited tools, or make it clear when tools might appear in the store, or remove the added bonus of the watchwork pick (as they are clearly not removing it from rotation in the store).

I only ever plan on buying one set of unlimited tools, and I’d rather do that when either:

1) I know that I’m getting the best tool that is going to be available
2) I know that if better tools are introduced, I can upgrade mine in some way (additional gems/gold/crafting, whatever) to match the functionality of the better tool.

What do people think of some weapon skins being added directly to the gem store for 700/800 gems?

EDIT: I am thinking here about a NEW skin set, not any of the existing ones already available elsewhere.

Make it a skin only, with one use and require transmutation charges after that, so that it would be equivalent to an armor set or outfit.

I realise that adding all new weapon skins to the Black Lion Weapon Specialist means we have to gamble endlessly with keys, but surely they could make some money by offering some looks directly for gems, as I know often I like a skin but not enough to gamble for the Claim Tickets to get one (especially 5 Claim Tickets!)

There are a lot of skin sets only available by Claim Tickets now, but none directly for gems, surely doing this would tempt more people into buying gems?

Because if it weren’t people would whine about being unable to access certain items?

I’d agree with this. It’s a bit of a lose-lose situation, people will complain either way.

I like the direction that things seem to be headed with introducing Quartz to Dry Top, it marks the opening of previously exclusive content, making sure it has a future for all players.

I think the solution might be a bit of both though. The Adventurer’s Scarf/Goggles could be both achievement rewards and drops within the zone chests/loot. That way they are accessible to everyone, with a choice of how to try and obtain them.

I love exploring, so I’m looking forward to tracking down all the achievements in Dry Top.

It’d be great to see more zone-based exploration achievements, for all the reasons above. But only if its not at the expense of producing a wide range of content. I’d rather different groups of players all got something they really love over the course of S2 than one group getting exactly what they want.

I guess this is one of those things though where we have to remember that every update can’t necessarily cater to all players.

[Suggestion] PvE Leaderboards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Asyntyche.4827

@ OP , the problem is your suggestions would only indicate either time spent playing or farming a particular aspect of the game. I don’t think that really needs to be encouraged.

You might as well just put a leaderboard for /age, which is why the current Achievement Points leaderboard is also a bit meaningless. (Though /deaths leaderboard could be funny as a wall of shame)

PvE is by its nature harder to measure skill leaderboards than PvP or WvW.

You could have some leaderboards for measureable stats like fastest Sanctum sprinter/Dolyak racer, or Aspect Arena average score leaderboards, but how do measure open world events?

Fastest dungeon clear times would just make berserker groups even more elitist, which we don’t need.

To unlock a skin in your wardrobe, you need to either:

a. Equip it (making it account bound/soulbound)
b. Destroy it
c. Right-click on the item and select “Unlock Skin”. (This will also make the item account bound.)

I get this, I just think it’d make sense(from an RP perspective) for there to be:

d. Craft it

I guess i’ll just have a look in my crafting lists for items I’ve not unlocked the skins for.

I understand it might not mix well with actually leveling, but to me its an interesting extra aspect of crafting at the moment.

I know this is not going to be the most efficient damage build, but my favorite weapons on the ranger are the Greatsword and Shortbow. I love playing with both and the ability to move in and out of range with the #3 skill on each.

From what I understand, GS relies on power, and SB on condition damage. I’ve mostly specced for conditions before, and maxing the SB (so traits like piercing arrows, sharpened edges etc)

I got my first Exotic armor set the other day, but think i’ve made a mistake in buying a full Armageddon set from the Balthazar temple, as it’s stats are quite varied and has quite a bit of Toughness/Vitality.

Anyway, I’d appreciate any thoughts on traits/runes/sigils/trinkets etc to help strengthen the build around the two weapons.

Interesting idea… But I think it may send Fine crafting materials into a price shock. Supply and demand for those seem pretty well balanced at the moment, so I don’t think we need another sink right now. But interesting idea, something to consider if the market starts to get flooded in the game’s later years.

I think you’re right on this. I hadn’t thought about fine materials initially. Having people wanting to discover all recipes would cause a big demand spike initially on the fine material prices, but they would presumably stabilise (at higher prices) after a while.

I suspect the simplest solution to manage the prices would be tweaking drop rates, or allowing an existing drop chances another roll to drop 1-2 fangs/bones etc. Would certainly need monitoring though, which at this point perhaps isn’t viable

what if Anet added a new tier5 recipe.

Should they remove your AP?

I think the AP could stay, but the achievement tool-tip could update to let you know that there are more recipes available.

Removing access to the Title until all recipes are discovered again might get complicated, I don’t know how the systems work behind the scenes

It sadly would work the same way as they introduce new zones, I still have “Been there, Done that” achievement and the world still says I’ve discovered it all even though there are zones where I have yet to go (Southsun, the next zone to be added soon, etc.) They wont reverse anything that has to do with titles because someone will complain loudly even though that title no longer makes sense with newly added tiers, zones, etc. I was sad when I found I still had 100% when Southsun was launched, I was really excited to explore the new zone and unlock my title again but no, I still had it and the new zone didn’t count for anything at all.

I understand why it works that way, but I agree, it is a little disappointing. Having things change as new content is added to the game imo would make the new content more exciting and give different players motivation to explore different parts of it.

However unlike map completion, here they could always work an achievement scheme based on the number of recipes discovered (e.g. 50/100/150….Recipes discovered), so that adding new content just increases the options available to get to the final tier, until they want to add an extra tier (much like grandmaster crafting).

Suggestion: All Recipes Discovered Reward

Posted by: Asyntyche.4827

Asyntyche.4827

Idea: To encourage players to continue investing in crafting alongside or after reaching max level.

Suggested Implementation:
Achievements for discovering all recipes within a crafting profession for each tier. For example Leatherworking;

Meta-Achievement: Artisan Leatherworker (Reward: Title – Artisan Leatherworker)
All Tier 7 (Grandmaster) Recipes discovered – 10 AP
All Tier 6 (Master) Recipes discovered -5 AP
All Tier 5 (Adept) Recipes discovered – 5 AP
All Tier 4 (Journeyman) Recipes discovered – 5 AP
All Tier 3 (Apprentice) Recipes discovered – 5 AP
All Tier 2 (Initiate) Recipes discovered – 5 AP
All Tier 1 (Novice) Recipes discovered – 5 AP

Total 40AP

I figure this should encourage more time spent with crafting for those who enjoy it, and more gold + mats used in crafting, so makes crafting a more long term hobby than just rushing to 400/500.

If/when new recipes are added to the game, the player could be made to unlock the title again, though cannot earn AP again, unless a new tier is added?

Thoughts?

That’s an interesting idea Draknar, though I don’t see the need to require players to down-level from 80. Just let them start training as a different profession from level 1.

I see it pretty similar to the crafting system – have any two professions you can swap between, and there could be a fee to change to another one, but it would be possible for one character to master all the profession disciplines.

This kind of system would have worked really well in GW1 as well where you could take skills from a secondary profession. I’m not sure I’d like to see it in GW2 though due to the balancing requirements.

I assume this would still work with the armor system so that eg if you change from heavy to light profession, the game would require you to change armor.

FWIW, for all the flak that Nightfall gets for Kormir, I think that game actually does it best out of all the original Guild Wars games. Whilst it doesn’t satisfy all the (frankly unrealistic) requirements I set out above, joining the Sunspears and rising through the ranks throughout the story, all the while gathering allies with distinct personalities (to complement the sense that you are a part of a larger, faceless force), was the most immersive thing I think I’ve done in an MMO.

This was what I loved about Nightfall and Eye of the North, the element of rising through the ranks of the groups we fought for, gaining more respect as we went. I was quite happy to not be the leader, I was some guy from Tyria who travelled to Elona, they had no reason to respect me without me working alongside current structures.

This is where I think GW2 has improved in some areas, but taken a step back in others. I like that we worked our way through order ranks, and were then drafted into the Pact. This was referenced in the cutscenes, and was a clear part of the LS. But in the open world, I have no way of showing the other citizens of Tyria that I have done any of those things, other than wearing Order Armor really. I’d actually like to see Title tracks come back, like we had for Sunspears or EotN races. Playing through the campaign gets you so far, but then you could also go back and continue working through the ranks (which would work far better now with dynamic events).

(Off topic; I’d also like to see the same for Racial reputations. I’m a charr, but if I spend most of my time in Kryta, and earn reputation with the Krytans, can I maybe get some Krytan cultural armor? )

So yeah, I’m pretty happy with not being the center of attention. I do think though that Rox/Braham and the others were far better introduced to us as characters than Trahearne was.

One day ArenaNet will stop allowing us to see other people’s AP and we can end this toxic war, I believe.

I sincerely hope this happens. sooner the better.

The recipe sheet can be traded, but once it’s used it’s on that one character only.

Ah, ok. Makes sense I guess given that crafting is character bound. I’ll just have to go get those recipes again for my alts.

another +1 from me. Being able to preview changes this way would make me much more likely to want to buy appearance changes. Especially when new options are added to the gem store – this way I could have a look at them and see if I want them!

And if the ‘premium’ gem store faces/hairstyles etc want to be kept higher value than the original ones, they could cost more in appearance charges / gems.

I used the tokens to get the nodes I missed from S1, but the options for the Favor of the Festival are a little underwhelming. I agree with Haleydawn, if I could turn it into more tokens, I’d just unlock a couple more skins.
